Energized Barangays in Negros Oriental

96% of barangays in NORECO2 area power-linked

Dumaguete City (29 June 2005) -- The Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative II said that 96% of the total barangays in Negros Oriental have already been energized.

The Department of Energy has recently announced that 96.2 percent of the country's barangays now have electrification, 0r 38,850 barangays out of 41,945 as of last April.

According to NORECO II Institutional Services Department Manager Leovigildo Elmaco, the electric cooperative is mandated by P.D. 262 or the Rural Electrification Law to provide power to the total 272 barangays in Negros Oriental.

Of the total, 263 have already been energized.
