Batanes small-scale farmers venture in agri-business
BASCO, Batanes (29 June 2005) -- Farmers in this province who grow garlic, ginger and coconut have formed into a cooperative venturing on processing their products.
Assisted by the Provincial Agriculture Office, and known government organizations and financial institution, the farmers would invest in processing of their products which come by metric tons through modern technologies.
Ivana, Itbayat and this town are known for mass production of garlic which newly formed cooperative would process into garlic flakes and garlic powder. Process of turmeric or powdered yellow ginger and local "Bukayo" and coconut candle from coconut abundant in Batanes and Uyugan will also include the cooperative's product lines. (PIA-Batanes)
