For Good from the musical Wicked has been playing over and over in my head since I first heard it.

It's such an amazingly beautiful song.

For those who don't know what it's about...

It's when the best friends Glinda (The Good Witch of Oz) and Elphaba (dubbed The Wicked Witch of the West) finally say goodbye to each other before Dorothy Gale comes up to the tower and melts Elphaba with a bucket of water.  Elphaba is not really evil but is, however, viewed as such because of her green skin and "not-so-pleasing" personality towards the world.

Here... Listen for yourself.  Finish the song.  So beautiful.

Well, as I recall... Bohol is one of the most popular tourist spots in the Philippines. It's not unusual to think that an event like this can bring x amount of pesos and even more business for the city.  ;D

commercialization is not bad.. and neither is a capitalist mentality... just as long as the spirit is retained in the process of infusing these things...

in the latter case, it wasn't!  the soul was gone... like I said.. it was like some sort of carcass of a once-meaningful celebration...

Halos tanan sa mga tao dinhi sa Pilipinas gusto manglarga sa gawas, nurses included.  They didn't choose to stay.  They stayed because they lack the experience or lack of papers or failing to pass the state exam.  or not making the right connections,  etc, etc, etc.  They are force to "do charity or donating services" while waiting for the right time kay wala na may mahimo.

OFW?  Accidental heroes!  Lets face it.  Nanggawas na sila not because for the love of country  but for the love of the family nga mahatagan ug maayong kinabuhi.  Immigrants?  Nisamot.  Nanglayas na dire sa pilipinas kay wala na kasabot sa atong panggobyerno.

So parehas ra ning mga nurse dinhi nga mga nabilin.  Mga accidental heroes. hehehe :D :D :D

this hits the spot, windgate... woooh!... and I find myself tugging the rope towards this path... just not as a nurse... heheheh!

This is just totally catastrophic. Thank you kaayo, Bon, for giving me that information.

The government has no one else to blame for the migration of nurses and physicians abroad but themselves for the magnanimous medical situation in the Philippines.

For me, I see nothing wrong with nursing students going abroad to find a job; they follow economic law. Supply and Demand.

There is alot of supply of Filipino nurses; there is little demand in the Philippines due to the saturation of the source; but there is quite a high demand for the said source in the West and Middle East. So naturally and logically, mo follow pood ang mga Filipino medical professionals sa flow.

Until the government can increase the standard of living/pay grade of atong mga nurses and physicians; they cannot expect to reduce the immigration of said professionals abroad. Les the demand of said sources decreases due to global economic hardships, immigration laws, and/or a growing saturation of said source in the importing countries.

yeah.. sakto jud ni nga statement... and very well said... there is no viable solution to prevent the so-called "brain drain" phenomenon sa atong country because the government itself is culpable......

gays and lesbians adds color to this world. i have lesbian and gay friends who are professional in any sense specially on the way they behave. i think sexual things doesn't need to be discuss since it's too private and they are entitled to be happy. in my own honest opinion, accepting them is totally within cultural bounds. some communities and groups doesn't want them while some will embrace them. all religions have gay and lesbian followers except for one, islam. as what i've heard islam despise homosexuality that's why gays and lesbians from islam dominated countries specially in the middle east fled and moved to other places where are they are accepted.
for me, it's not a problem. i've known a lot of people who are homosexual by nature. they are priests, professors, pastors, nurses, doctors, engineers, basketball players and other sports personalities. i have homosexual relatives both young and old. as long as their demeanor will surely point who they are and they don't deny it plus they are not vulgar and indicent. some gays are so indicent, lewd and immoral in the sense that they are show off in public.

hala.. mura'g na-igo ko ani bah... tsk.tsk,, hehehe!.. bitaw uih.. I miss my baby!

It's a civic, patriotic and philanthropic fraternal organization.  To get in, you need to write an application and you need the endorsement of two members.

...your application will then be queued for consideration...

First things first.  Make PR with some of the members and express your interest to them.

Carpe Diem~!

HR noticed naman gud nga himuon rang palipas oras ang call center..

i got sad nga dili na sila dawaton.. dili lalim maging nurse..

Quote from: VinSentYou on August 06, 2008, 11:11:28 AM

it's not easy being me, no! i even tried to apply sa PS and TeleTech before but they declined my application just because of the three letters (BSN). awch!

by the way, how would I address you in a single-syllable manner?

need I say more?.. this is a very poignant fiasco jud!.. they're finding it hard to seek employment apart from medical related jobs because of the AWOL prejudice they have been branded with... and most of them bya kay dili jud passion nga mag-nurse.. nangapugos lang tungod sa diktar sa ilang parents... and mao'y gidangat nga di na hinuon sila kakita og trabaho...

Nursing is the most indemand profession 5 years back that many doctors studied nursing as a stepping stone for going to the US. But as per Mr. Bennelyn, Japanese hospitals are now employing Indonesian nurses. Other countries are now employing Chinese and Malaysian nurses as cheap alternative. Nursing in these countries are a two year course compared to 5 years standard. I considered them as fake nurses.

With cheap competition, we will end up being a country of "nurses without doctors" instead of "doctors without borders".

With the growing population of senior citizens, these so called fake nurses are now utilized as caregivers or midwives. They are a big threat to our genuine nurses. Our nurses should not accept such jobs which are humiliating to thier sacred profession.

I remembered the famous expression when I was in college: "Agay nars"

In any case, you should not force your children to take up courses which are against thier passion. It is like a forced marriage.

Well, competition will always opt for a cheaper alternative. That's one of the adversities causing our downfall. But we can't force them to pick our nurses.  So, the problem still remains.
#52
I wrote that and started this thread because I feel so devastated as a friend for my friends who are now registered nurses but then aren't able to move forward because they can't get jobs anywhere.  This quandary owes to the fact that there just aren't enough jobs for them anymore. In addition, many lawyers and fiscals have abandoned the law profession as they are now enrolled in nursing schools.

I had a bad experience in hospitals sa ato in which some nurses are just buying time with their hospital jobs as they wait for their visas. I saw male nurses in Cebu who smoked cigarette at the hospital.

this situation has clearly gone overboard...

MARKET VALUE....???

Maka-taas ba diay na og market value na'ng ma-RN sa Pilipinas?  According to UNESCO and UN-ILO (International Labor Organization) joint research statistics, the Northern American and European Union demand for nurses have plummeted to staggering depths over the last 2 years.  [I can't reveal the statistics yet since they have not yet been published by the main offices.]

It has plummeted in a manner so devastating such that even American and European nurses are having a difficulty finding jobs in their own countries.  And did you know that to be an RN in those countries, you only need 2 years in university studies?  And bogbog-sarado mo diri sa Pilipinas og 4 years (even 5 years in some schools).

So karon, ang nahitabo sa mga nurses nila mismo: ni-proceed og human health development courses, science courses, or medical technology. And after that, ni-venture sila into research jobs for pharmaceutical companies, stem cell research and such. Others, ningsulod og medical schools to become doctors.

Believe me. The real figures are classified information as of the moment but the entire situation is not new information.  This entire "Philippine nurse-overload" fiasco has been predicted by UNESCO as early as two years ago when the demand was at its peak.  And the prediction was published in UN newsletters. Tell all of your friends. Pag-call center na lang mo ui or what have you nga maka-earn mo, just as long as it's an adequate and honest source of income.  Business Process Outsourcing, business ventures, agricultural ventures, engineering, law... These are viable sources of income for Filipinos.  And you're better off here with these kinds of jobs.  Kung manggawas hinuon mo, daghan kaayong mag-salig ninyo with the notion that you've been picking up dollars like Sweeney Todd has been getting customers in his barber shop for Mrs. Lovett to turn into meat pies.

Maayo pa nang naa mo diri and they could see how you work.  And then when opportunities arise, go flee the country for good.  Leave the negative people behind.  They will only hold you back.  And if obliged man gani ka mopadala og money to your family, give them enough. Never give too much just to feed their caprice.  Mao na'y sakit sa mga Pinoy nga hambogiro kaayo nga naa'y kamag-anak sa gawas.  Wa sila ka-realize og unsa kalisod ilang kayod didto and they burn money as if they've been shaken off olive trees.  Give out of love so they could feel it.  And never allow them to take pride nga naa sila'y anak nga NURSE or CAREGIVER sa gawas sa nasod.  That's preposterous.  Be proud of yourself if you achieve such a feat but never allow others to take the pride elsewhere.  That's a dire misconception.  That would be false pride.  They should pray for you hinuon kay by sending you away as overseas NURSES or BLUE COLLAR WORKERS, they are subjecting your health to certain jeopardy.

I hope this will be an eye opener.

A little piece of advice from a UN volunteer worker for those who are in high school, those who are contemplating to shift to BSN, those professionals who are not satisfied with their jobs and want to proceed to BSN (most especially doctors who are planning to degrade their degrees):

DO NOT STUDY NURSING IF IT'S JUST BECAUSE YOU THINK IT WILL LAND YOU A GOOD JOB ABROAD.

IF CARING FOR PEOPLE IS YOUR PASSION, THEN GO STUDY NURSING.  BUT LET THAT BE THE REASON... NOT BECAUSE GI-PUGOS KA SA IMONG PAMILYA OR YOU FEEL FORCED BY THE SOCIAL BANDWAGON KAY "IN" SIYA NOWADAYS.  THAT'S AN ARCHAIC PERSPECTIVE.

WHAT WAS SEEN AS THE MOST PRACTICAL CAREER TWO YEARS AGO HAS BECOME THE MOST IMPRACTICAL IDEA OF TRANSCENDENCE FROM POVERTY. MAHAL PA ANG GASTOS, UNYA IN THE END, DI PA JUD KA KAKUHA OG TRABAHO! SUS GINOO KO! UNSAON NA LANG INTAWON...

DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO WITH YOUR LIFE... INVOKE THAT SPARK OF CREATIVITY WITHIN YOU!

THIS ADVICE ALSO GOES FOR PARENTS WHO FORCE THEIR CHILDREN TO TAKE UP NURSING... YOU'RE KILLING THEM... LET THEM DO WHAT THEY WANT, FOR GOD'S SAKE... FOR THEIR OWN FUTURE'S SAKE! FOR THEIR LIVES' SAKE!

Ako, apil-apil lang. hehe! I'll bring you to one event soon.

Im glad to hear that even the young ones are longing for the real spirit of the celebration!

Bon, i like that opinion. Hope the people concern can read this thread.

Well, I'm not your average teenage guy.  I think that statement is overused already.  And it's become a statement most stereotypical teenagers use.  Hence, contrary to what they're saying, most youngsters who use that statement are, in fact, typical and average, "nothing-special" teenagers.  But I say I'm different because I really am.  [hehehehe! Yabang much?]

Anyway, yeah!  I'm longing for something that feels REAL!  As in real jud!  Not something that'd make me REEL!  [hehehe!]

I really do hope "THEY" come across this.

Are our standards as Boholano people deteriorating?

Has Tagbilaran City's brand of friendliness gone completely down the drain?

Why is the celebration this bad?

Why are all the stands in front of the city hall?  Why not at the pier where it used to be?  For goodness' sake, na-mura na man intawon ug piryahan na diha dapita uy!  The city hall looks very degraded with all the "banderitas" and what not.

Moreover, kanang Miss Bohol Sandugo, na-unsa na man na?  It has almost completely lost its symbolism already.  Di na lang ko mo-state sa akong reasons kay ambot!  Lisod na!  I think you all get the point.

PLUS, LET ME POINT OUT A HUGE IRONY: Why are there stands selling pirated DVDs there?  Atubangan pa jud na sa city hall ha!  Atubangan!  Why did they allow that?  Kahibaw mo, kagwang jud na'ng mga tao nga kusog kaajo mo-implement sa ilang own quasi-draconian policies and yet mu-neglect na lang anang pagka-simple nga "INTERNATIONAL" anti-piracy law.  They are setting a terrible example to the public!

Grabe!  Wa na 'ju'y sense of culture and heritage ni nga Celebration.  It's supposed to be the commemoration of an earth-shaking milestone that took place in our province centuries ago.  The blood compact.  "'san dugo".  But tan-awa ra gud na'ng blurb sa festival website.  http://sandugo.tagbilaran.gov.ph/2008/bsfi.php  There is nothing here that speaks in line with what's supposedly being celebrated.  Puros tourism ek-ek.  Well, there's nothing wrong with tourism but at least man lang bisan tu-od ug kahibaw sila nga kahibaw na ang tana'ng tao ug para-asa na'ng Sandugo Festival, di 'jud gihapon angay i-leave-out uy!  Aber, in that kind of analogy, di na lang kintahay magdala ug passport sa airport inig-larga sa lai'ng nasud kay confident na kaayo ka-ila na ang tana'ng tao?  Think about it.  It seems nga this celebration is happening just for the sake of festivities.  Festival na lang gani, di na celebration.

Goodness gracious!  What's happening to us?  What's happening to Tagbilaran City?  Nakahinomdom pa mo sa time nila Gardy Labad and such people?  Although he had his shortcomings, he did something great to Bohol that would never be forgotten.  He helped put Bohol on top of the list.  But where is this kind of spirit now?  Wala na 'ju'y traces.  What ever happened to all the cultural fuss I used to enjoy as a little kid?  The LCC concerts at The Metro Centre, the golden singing voice of Da Maris singing Bisaya songs, "Dagon sa Hoyohoy", "The Oracle", "El Indio Bravo", and what not.  Asa na man ni'ng mga butanga?  Wa na'y kaya?  Crisis?  Hah!  That's such a lame excuse!

Forgive me sa tanan nga na-affected sa akong statements.  Nothing personal.  Don't get angry kay tinu-od ni!  The veracity of this is indubitable!  Basta kay wa ko ganahi ani 'ron!

To say that I'm appalled right now is a sheer understatement!  Ambot na lang 'jud!

Love Talk / Babay'ng Wa'y Uyab
July 04, 2008, 02:21:56 PM
Here's a little something I'd like to share with everyone here at TB.  It's a poem by Mitzi Ibaya, also known to us as Lingganay, of KaKa (Kaliwat ni Karyapa), a Boholano Visayan cultural poetry organization.

She read this poem at the 2007 opening of the National Arts Month celebration in Cebu City.  We went there as delegates for Bohol since our founder was assigned to light the torch for Poetry.  Napoleon Abueva was also there to light the torch for sculpture and architecture, as well as other names.

The poem is in Boholano-Visayan and it's really funny.  It was an ice breaker after a very long pause in the program.

ENJOY!

Babay’ng Wa’y Uyab
By Mitzi Ibaya

Lisod ning daga’ng wa’y uyab.
Kung di ko tambok,
Maot ko’g naw’ng o di ba kaha batasan.
A-dudahan pa ‘jud ko’ng “lesbian”.

Akong mama mag-sige’g pangutana,
Mahalin pa ba ka o di na?
Akong mga amiga, i-hanyag bisa’g kinsa,
Lakip na to’ng upaw sa eskina.
Unsa ko, desperada?

Naa pu’y mga tambag,
Wa’y klaro’ng tubag.
Huwata, pangitaa.
Naa pa gaju'y mu-honghong,
“Bahala’g langkay basta ma-ukay."

Unsa-on man pud?
Akong ganahan mao ma’y mudagan.
Labon tong budlat mao’y nangigat,
Nah! Mao’y gidangat!

Ngano man diay ug wa ko’y uyab?
Malipayon man ko sa akong pag-inusara.
Hinuon, wa ko’y a-gakson.
Sagdi lang, wa man pud ko’y awayon.

Hello Pare! Kumusta?

I have always respected your point of view since from the start knowing you here in TB.  I've been reading the hot discussions in this interesting thread but some biblical citations makes me confused.

I have a question to you since you are a bible expert.  I had read in one of your comments that phrase: "The act of homosexuality is a SIN! Would you be kind enough to elaborate and explain clearly WHY IT IS CONSIDERED AS A SIN in which connection?  I am interested to know this. Thanks.

As I understand: GOD created us equal and he ordered us... "Go to the World and multiply" (As what the Pinoys considered obedient enough).  As to my poor understanding: Since the homosexuals have no possibility to multipy..... are they sinners? Due to this reasons that they could never follow what God said? If our Almighty God loves us all whom he molded.... Why and into what basics he will neglect some (Bayots) of his own creatures?  Sorry dear God!...Is this not an art of cheating from our Lord?  ???

In my own opinion....mas sala pang dako ang siging panganak ug daghan unya way ika-pakaon kay sa mga boutan nga  b***t (dili pod tanan ..like we heteros)  nga mang-adopt ug mga gisalikway nga pobreng bata gikan sa mga ginikanan nga masunoron sa sugo sa Diyos.

Pare....what I think there are other mortal sins which need more our attention rather than telling someone who is courageously outing himself  at the age of 18 who more or less only need our respect as a person.  And I am happy to have him here....let TB Family be more colorful!

We welcome all from different categories as soon as they are called human, right?

Peace all be with you!

Behold, a sensible response.  Thanks, Bambi!  This relaxed my head.

Anyway, it's people like Lorenzo and WBP who initiate chaos in this world between liberal and traditional choices.  They just couldn't swallow reality and it saddens me.  They feel compelled to preach to the world whatever fuss their heads contain--unrelenting at that, in fact.  To people like myself, it would be a matter to be ignored but for some, it's the very thing that creates repression and pretension.  That's not good!  No aspect of pretension is positive in any sense.

Thanks mucho, again, Bambi.

Bonbon, I understand your point of view on this matter, but try to retort to other people's opinions without having to use profane words, please. Notice that I did not use such words to you or anyone in this thread. Let us discuss like civil human beings. Intellectuals with mutual respects on each other's persona.

My views, Bon, are affixed and I will not change my views to fit into anyone's box or any idealogue. Like yourself, lol.

I am a religious man, and I will even dare to say that my morals and ethos are based on my religion and my own faith. Through which is based on religious Christian, specifically of Roman Catholic, scripture. Now , I would like to tell you that though religion has a large influence in my views on social as well as personal topics, I make my own interpretation and my own judgment accordingly.

Its called social conservatism, Bon. I hold quite traditionalist views on social aspects; and I can guarantee you that I am not the only one in here with such views, in the United States, in the Philippines and in the world.

Concerning your bringing up of the use of BC/AD, on the contrary, secular society uses the term BCE/CE (before common era/ common era). But many still use the BC/AD setting. It depends on the individual.

And lastly, you bring about an interesting point at how you 'dont care' about the view of others, which I am lightly paraphrasing from your retort. However, even if you say that, it still will not mitigate the fact that over 1.2 billion Catholics and an additional 500 million protestant christians, an additional 1.1 billion muslims still hold rather conservative feelings on this topic.

I will end this remark with a personal absolution. It is in my personal opinion, that the act of homosexuality is a SIN. It is a sin as noted in scripture. Old testament and New testament. And it will vary on different individual's view on salvation and acceptance of this act. We do not know if whether the Lord accepts this or not, we can only hope that the Lord is accepting of it and looks past this sin. But I can tell you this, that it is told clearly in Genesis, in Leviticus and in Col that this said act IS a sin.

Many will think that such thinking is derelict, but to think and ignore its message, which comes from The Holy Bible itself in not only the Catholic version but through many protestant versions, is ignoring and choosing to pick and choose what part of the bible one can use.

Bon, the act of homosexuality is a SIN.

And looking at it in a biological stand point, as a scientist, is violation of natural law. The point of sentient beings is to reproduce and replicate their genetic codes. XY genome will mix with XX genome. You cannot mix XX with XX or XY with XY. And in the words of Ate Belle, she is right. Homosexuality IS manifested because of neurological degeneracy. There is enzymatic abnormalities.

So, in actuality, the 'abomination' that is said in Holy Scripture bears TRUE forebearance IN that even science proves the 'abnormality' of Homosexuality. In the view of the scientific--organismal point of view.

Cheers,
Bran Lorenzo

The message that His Eminence, Bishop Leonardo Medroso ushers truth in what the bishops and the Holy Orders reiterate.

Even in the United States, there is varying verbatum on the aspect of marriage.

Many Americans view that there should be equal rights for homosexuals on a political point of view. Equal benefits for them; given civil unions.

But the topic of 'marriage' has remained a very sensitive topic. It still relegates to the concept of man and woman. Not man-man or woman-woman.

So that's what you think.

I've said it before and I will say it again: I don't care what you say, Lorenzo.  I have a mind of my own and so do you.  I have my own line of thinking that has been influenced by generations of great thinkers and I'm not about to bow down to any other ideologies obviously lesser than that.

I think as much as I read.  When I read the works Freud, Piaget, Kohlberg, Erikson, the holy Bible, the Kabbalah, Q'uran, Bhagavad Gita, or anything else, I use my head.  My brain isn't a sponge, you know.  I do know how to think--very well, in fact.  I've read about all those things you mentioned in your rant and I've pondered on them.  I'm not the kind of person who only recognizes a single-perspective.  I do consider the other side but your arguments are just not as strong as mine is founded, so I trashed them.

Yes, I do read the Christian bible.  It's among the most insightful books I've ever come across but I don't necessarily believe everything.  If you do, then that's your choice, Lorenzo.  Don't bombard me with them because I really don't care.  Nothing you say will influence me in any substantial manner.  I don't even know who you are.  If I did, it wouldn't matter either way because, much like you with your advocacy, I keep a firm stand with mine and I don't budge for absolutely anyone below my "standards of intelligence".

Your scientific statement on this issue is not useful.  First and foremost because I already know about that.  Second is because we (my partner and I) have abandoned thoughts of reproduction among ourselves.  We are men, alright? We ARE men.  We are aware that it's never going to happen between us.

And telling me that I'm abnormal does not really provoke me intensely.  I know that my genes were designed this way by the biological course of nature.  And who do you Christians say is responsible for this?  God, right?  And does your perspective of God consider to be a sin what makes two people (even of the same sex) happy?  Especially if this happiness is sealed with genuine love?

You say that homosexuality is a sin and your basis of this is the holy bible.  Well, let your basis be your basis.  My basis is mine as well.

I'm not close-minded, though.  I am as dynamic as all human beings normally are.  But given that you are deliberately calling me an "abomination," I would say that you are as "banal" and "feeble" as your shallow-founded arguments.

Keep them coming, Lorenzo.  I would never care.  You are wasting your time trying to tell me things that I am completely aware about.  The fact is that I don't really care... at all.

Let us end this argument, Lorenzo.  Please stop trying to convince me that homosexuality is a sin and that it is an abominable thing.  Nothing you say or do will convince me of this because in my eyes, you are nobody.  I do not recognize you in any significant way.  I do not regard you any more than how I regard every candle vendor at St. Joseph's Cathedral (whom I respect as human beings, by the way), any mendicant at the port of Tagbilaran City or any cashier at BQ or ICM.  To me, you are no one so don't try imposing on me.

Thank you.  Have a nice life.
