The kayak that is offending Japanese sensibilities.

Igarashi has, in the past, created art that’s modeled on her genitalia. She considers herself a “deco-man,” or “decorated vagina,” artist. “I make art pieces with my mold p***y, which I would rather call Manko (MK),” Igarashi says. But her Campfire crowdfunding attempt to create her “Manko boat” â€" or, as Igarashi calls it, “the world’s first 3D scanned ‘Peach on the Beach’” â€" however, is now seen as a criminal activity.

The artist told authorities that she hasn’t actually committed any wrongdoing. In fact, Igarashi hasn’t actually shown any graphic imagery of herself; she is simply distributing code of a 3D scan she made of her genitalia, according to the Japan Times. Before, Igarashi would create molds of her lady part; the digital scan, however, might be what’s crossing the line.

Although Igarashi is reportedly still under arrest, the artist is most likely not surprised by the reaction. On her crowdfunding page, she acknowledges that in Japan, talking about or showing human genitalia â€" female vagina, in particular â€" is taboo (even in Japanese pornography, private parts cannot be shown). She decided, as an artist, she would start the conversation by creating her deco-man pieces, and perhaps bring a change to Japanese society â€" or at least make it more acceptable to talk about it.

Update on December 26, 2014: Japanese artist Megumi Igarashi has been indicted on charges of distributing obscene data, NPR reports (via Japan Times), after having been arrested twice for her 3D-printed art project â€" a kayak with a representation of her vagina. If convicted, Igarashi could face a fine of $20,755 and possibly two years in jail. Igarashi has pleaded not guilty, and supporters feel she has been a victim of “flawed” Japanese laws that are harsh on women.

Original story: Japan is a nation that embraces the cutting-edge, but it’s also a highly traditional and conservative country, especially when it comes to sex and pornography in the media. And it is because of its obscenity laws that a Japanese artist has found herself in hot water. The New York Observer’s Betabeat (via The Guardian) reports that Megumi Igarashi is being held by authorities for attempting to 3D-print a kayak based on her vagina.

Manila Bulletin â€" 6 hours ago

Cebu City â€" About 4,000 passengers were stranded in various ports in Cebu, Bohol and Camotes Island as of noon time yesterday after the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) prevented vessels from sailing due to tropical storm Seniang.

The order to cancel boat trips from Cebu and Bohol were issued as public storm signal number 1 and number 2 were hoisted over the provinces of Cebu and Bohol, respectively. Signal number 2 was also raised in the Siquijor province.

“We were unaware of the incoming typhoon and the cancellation of trips,” said Victor Abella, whose family was set to travel to Leyte to celebrate the New Year with relatives.

Abella said his family will have to spend time in Pier 1 until the PCG allows the resumption of sea travel. The Abella family came from Samboan town, some 120 kilometers away from Cebu City.

Large vessels and fast ferries which cancelled trips include MV Ocean Jet 8 from Pier 1 in Cebu City to Ormoc City in Leyte, MV Weesam 7 from Pier 1 to Ormoc, MV Filipinas Dapitan from Pier 1 to Calbayog in Samar, MV Filipinas Dinagat from Pier 1 to Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental, and MV Filipinas Ozamiz from Pier 1 to Tagbilaran in Bohol.

Walled in

They first arrived at Tony Co’s, and like in Chua’s incident, it was smaller than what they expected and contained less contraband than what was relayed to them by their informant.

“The BuCor guards already looked happy that there were no contraband so we started kicking and knocking down the walls,” Isidoro said.

“Then, we saw a very small hole in the wall. When we checked it, we saw an exercise machine inside it. We were surprised because there were no doors. So, how did that get in?” he added.

Agents rechecked the walls and saw three hinges on the side, meaning they could push the wall open. They also noticed that these walls were either freshly painted or freshly covered with wallpaper.

There were also sawdust and cans of odorless paint on the floor.

Isidoro said he believes the walls were installed about two to three days before the raid.

In that hidden room, they saw a split-type aircon and another newly-constructed wooden wall. Like the first wall, the agents tore it down and discovered the jacuzzi.

The wall also led them to a mezzanine that is connected to another kubol.

The same happened in Peter Co’s kubol, said Isidoro. His kubol, which could span about 200 square meters, was reconstructed in such a way that the contraband would escape the raiders’ eye.

According to Isidoro, the BuCor guards were even insisting that the NBI sign an inventory that agents found nothing inside the kubol.

“They were surprised when we kicked down the walls. If we did not do that, we would not have discovered the guns and Jacuzzi. They deceived us,” Isidoro said.

Miriam slams DOJ

Meanwhile,  Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago expressed suspicion yesterday that top members of justice department could be protecting influential and high-profile inmates at the NBP.

“There is a cabal in the Department of Justice whose members make sure that people understand that they extend their full protection to the men who conduct their business in the New Bilibid Prison,” she said.

Santiago repeated her call for the need to reform the prisons facilities in the country by having it patterned after the United States’ penal system, which has inmates pay for better facilities. â€" With Christina Mendez

BuCor guards tipped off drug lords â€" NBI
By Aie Balagtas See (The Philippine Star) | Updated December 18, 2014 - 12:00am

MANILA, Philippines - Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) security personnel reportedly “prepared” the drug lords for last Monday’s raid in the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) by helping them reconstruct their vast kubols to conceal the luxurious contrabands inside them, a National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) official said yesterday.

BuCor guards also “deceived” NBI agents by directing some of them to a different kubol than the one really targeted by the raid.

These were the observations of lawyer Eric Isidoro, who led a team of NBI agents in raiding the house of the biggest fish among the drug lords, Peter Co, and his men Tony Co and Hans Chua.

“As insiders of NBP, they were appointed as point men by the raiding team. But instead of bringing us to Hans Chua’s kubol, they brought us to a smaller one,” Isidoro said.

“When we got inside, even Hans Chua couldn’t breathe. He said he has asthma and couldn’t breathe inside. So logic tells you, the kubol is not his. Then, we checked the clothes and the shoes inside the kubol, they didn’t fit him. We asked him to open his drawer, he didn’t have the key and even asked the BuCor guard for help,” Isidoro added.

After the incident, Isidoro said his team “started doubting” the BuCor guards, as these were the same people who would take them to Peter and Tony Co’s detention houses.

Underwater waves, also called internal waves, stay beneath the ocean surface, hidden from our view. They raise the ocean’s surface water by inches, which makes them difficult to detect except by satellite. The largest internal waves appear in the Luzon Strait, between Taiwan and the Philippines. They can tower 170 meters (560 ft) and move at only a few centimeters per second across great distances.

Scientists believe we must understand how these waves are generated because they may be an important contributor to global climate change. Internal waves mix the ocean’s less salty, warmer, upper water with its saltier, colder, lower water. They drive large volumes of salt, heat, and nutrients through the ocean. It’s the primary way that heat is transferred from the upper ocean to the lower waters.

Scientists have long wanted to solve the mystery of how the huge internal waves in the Luzon Strait are generated. They’re hard to see in the ocean, although instruments can detect the difference in density between an internal wave and its surrounding water. Nevertheless, scientists decided to conduct their tests in a 15-meter (50 ft) wave tank. The internal waves were generated by pushing cold bottom water over two ridges on the simulated seafloor. It appears that these huge internal waves are produced by the spacing of the ridges in the Luzon Strait, not by one feature on a ridge such as a high mountain.

“It’s an important missing piece of the puzzle in climate modeling,” says Thomas Peacock of MIT. “Right now, global climate models are not able to capture these processes. You get a different answer . . . if you don’t account for these waves.” -- http://listverse.com/

The Philippine government prosecutors charged a U.S. Marine with murder Monday in the killing of a Filipino, saying the suspect acknowledged attacking the victim after he found out she was a transgender woman.

Prosecutor Emilie de los Santos said there was 'probable cause' that Marine Pfc. Joseph Scott Pemberton, who has been detained since shortly after the October incident, killed Jennifer Laude, whose former name was Jeffrey, in the motel room where the victim's body was found in Olongapo city, northwest of Manila.

She had apparently been strangled and drowned in a toilet bowl.

Marine Lance Corporal Jairn Michael Rose, who went out with Pemberton that night, acknowledged that the suspect later confided back at their ship that he attacked the woman he was with by choking her after discovering that she was a transgender when she undressed, according to the prosecutors.

'I think I killed a he/she,' Pemberton was quoted as having told Rose. -- http://truecrimetoday.blogspot.com/

“Dili man gyud to sa Ayala, private parking ra man gud to, mao to’ng wala’y CCTV ug guwardiya sa taga Ayala,” matud ni Chief Insp.

(BANAT NEWS)

Two types of items

Bureau of Corrections Director Franklin Bucayu said items that should not be brought in a kubol could be classified into two: those that were “bad per se,” such as drugs, firearms and bladed weapons; and those that were “not per se bad but are prohibited” as they were considered “luxury items.”

He said the antennae, boosters, television sets and jacuzzi, among others, fell under the second category and would be removed.

The guitar and the drum set, he said, would be removed, adding it “would be nice” if these were used instead “by all” and transferred to an area where everyone can access them.

“That everyone benefits from (them), for the entertainment of all, not just for certain individuals,” Bucayu said, noting that the underlying principle behind the NBP was the “reformation” of the inmate.

According to Bucayu, the vaults “should not be there” and that the tiles and mirrors there “could be removed” so as not to give the perception that the kubol was “like a private pad.”

Bucayu said the kubol was also “not the place” to display Rolex watches and other similar luxurious personal effects.

“So, if those are owned by the (inmate’s) family, then the family should get them. (The NBP) is supposed to be a prison,” he said.

He added that if these were not claimed by the family, they could be “for safekeeping” in a vault where “all the personal effects of the inmate” are usually placed and returned to him “once released.”

“He will be given a receipt (of the items in the vault),” Bucayu said.

NBP personnel’s hand

Bucayu acknowledged that some NBP personnel may have had a hand in the entry of prohibited items inside the facility, as these prohibited objects did not just “appear (there) as if by magic.”

He said if there was “sufficient evidence” that some personnel “facilitated the entry of these,” charges would be filed against them.

“We are very strict about that. We have already suspended many… Dismissal (is also a possibility),” he said.

Demolition

Bravo said De Lima gave NBP officials until Saturday to demolish some kubol.

“We will conduct a resurvey (of the NBP facility) and demolish (makeshift rooms) that we think are too big,” Bravo said, noting that the fixed kubol were already in the facility “under previous administrations.”

Among those to be demolished were the makeshift rooms of the four inmates where several “out-of-the-ordinary” items were found.
#9751
Secret pathways

De Lima said several secret pathways leading to various areas of the building were found in Co’s kubol.

Also seized from Co’s kubol were documents that contained lists of names with corresponding cash amounts and dates.

Co’s kubol was also equipped with closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, according to De Lima.

A kubol of Co’s assistant, Jojo Baligad, also convicted of violation of the anti-illegal drugs law, has a bath tub, a long conference table, a game console, a bar, a kitchen, and a life-size sex doll.

In Baligad’s two-bedroom cell were checkbooks, bills in a Louis Vuitton cash box and an undetermined amount of shabu.

Robbery group leader

A 60-square-meter music studio with an elevated floor that serves as the stage is decorated with photos of the patron and occupant, Herbert Colangco, a convicted gang leader of the Waray-Waray and Ozamiz robbery group. The studio has split-type air-con units.

Colangco said he also owned a generator for the studio, which he claimed was also used by other “reformed and talented inmates.”

The upper floor of Colangco’s kubol is furnished with a black leather sofa and a dining table with an unobstructed view of the tennis court.

Found in Colangco’s room beside the music studio were vaults holding a diamond-studded Patek Philippe watch, five big-faced Rolex watches, Cartier and Officine Panerai watches, an Hermès belt and branded wallets filled with cash.

Colangco claimed that the expensive watches were gifts from visitors, including an uncle, who is a congressman.

Behind narco industry

“Based on our study, their removal from the NBP would validate the combined reports of anti-illegal drugs agency that the inmates control the narcotics industry in the country,” De Lima said.

The justice secretary said the inmates would be stripped of communication tools and their visiting privileges suspended.

De Lima said that each inmate had bundles of money in their pockets when they were removed from their kubol that were converted into loft-style condo units in the maximum compound of the NBP.

According to an insider of the NBP, a kubol is sold for a minimum of P300,000 depending on its size.

“The proceeds are divided between the jail guard and the occupant of the kubol,” the insider said.

As of press time, the search was still ongoing.

De Lima said she had ordered the dismantling of the kubol as soon as possible.

Wine, whitening creams, guns

Also seized from the kubol were bottles of expensive wine and liquor, and imported skin whitening creams.

A kubol occupied by convicted drug lord Peter Co has a sauna, wide-screen television sets, Wi-Fi and split-type air-con units.

Found among Co’s belongings were P1.4 million in cash, five firearms, five cell phones, money-counting machines, laptops, a projector and small appliances.
#9753
Bags of ‘shabu’

They found bags and sachets of white powder believed to be “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) in the first four kubol at the start of the operation. They also found cash totaling more than P2 million.

De Lima said she was more than disgusted at the discovery. “I thought problems like that are being dealt with because sometimes they (prison officials) conduct raids and they report results to me. They even have list of [seized] contraband. It now appears it’s just the tip of the iceberg.”

Transferred to NBI

Removed from the NBP compound and transferred to the NBI headquarters in Manila were Eugene Chua, Sam Li Chua, Vicente Sy, George Sy, Tony Co, Joel Capones, Herbert Colangco, Peter Co, Imam Boratong, Clarence Domingo, Tom Chua, Rommel Capones, Jojo Baligad, Willy Chua, Michael Ong, Jacky King, Willy Sy, Noel Martinez and Dona Agojo.

Supt. Celso Bravo, NBP spokesman, said all 19 inmates left the NBP around 11:30 a.m., escorted by authorities.

DE LIMA LEADS NBI DAWN RAID ON ‘VIPS’
Kristine Felisse Mangunay, Nancy C. Carvajal | Philippine Daily Inquirer 1:18 AM | Tuesday, December 16th, 2014

BILIBID OR NOT? LUXURIOUS QUARTERS IN MAXIMUM SECURITY COMPOUND Justice Secretary Leila de Lima leads a dawn raid on the air-conditioned rooms of powerful convicts at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City. Peter Co’s room has a sauna while that of his assistant, Jojo Baligad, boasts of a jacuzzi. Convict Herbert Colangco’s room rocks with a music studio. EDWIN BACASMAS

MANILA, Philippinesâ€"One has a diamond-studded Patek Philippe watch. Four others have Rolex watches. One of them keeps a life-size sex doll. All have wads of cash in their pockets.

They were among the 19 convicts at the national penitentiary in Muntinlupa City staying in luxurious quarters that could pass for high-end condominium units from where they allegedly operate a nationwide drug syndicate.

One “kubol,” a space in the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) converted into a special detention area, has a jacuzzi.

Another has a sauna, wide-screen television sets in every room, Wi-Fi and split-type air-con units. Still another kubol has a generator and a music studio with top-of-the-line equipment.

This “luxurious” lifestyle of 19 convicts ended when Justice Secretary Leila de Lima swooped down at dawn Monday on the quarters of the high-profile inmates in search of evidence that would link them to the illegal drug trade in the NBP compound.

De Lima was accompanied by Director Virgilio Mendez of the National Bureau of Investigation, NBP head Supt. Franklin Bucayo and a phalanx of security escorts.

History / Saw: A Medieval Prequel
December 17, 2014, 12:28:40 AM

Before the saw was given its perfunctory role to slice through wood and thick material, it was used to slice through humans for torture or execution. The victim would be held upside down, allowing the blood to rush to their head, and then the torturer would slowly start slicing them between their legs.

With the blood contained in the head, the victim would remain conscious throughout most of the slicing, often only passing out or dying when the saw hit their mid-section. -- http://all-that-is-interesting.com/

Michelle Obama is furious after finding out about her husband’s secret love nest, according to a new report.

In another article from the National Enquirer tabloid about alleged problems in the Obama marriage, a source is quoted as saying “Michelle found out about his secret love nest and exploded in fury!”

“Despite the happy public face the family is putting out, it’s created the holiday from hell!” the insider added in the unverified story.

“In early December, Michelle confronted Barack about a secret location he’s been using to meet up with women. She verbally ripped him to pieces. Barack didn’t have much of a comeback. He knows he’s been ratted out.”

Multiple alleged insiders assert Barack has a secret love nest inside the Jefferson Hotel, which is just a few blocks from the White House. He apparently utilizes a door in the hotel’s private wine cellar to come and go without being seen.

“”The ‘commander-in-cheat,’ as he’s known at the place, comes and goes so frequently that some hotel staffers call the door he uses the ‘Barack entrance,'” one source claimed.

“It’s easy for the president to get to and best of all, it has a secret entrance so he can come and go discreetly.”

Unlike executions in most other countries that have not abolished the death penalty, executions of offenders are not performed privately in prisons, but publicly in central Riyadh, and have been called the "only form of public entertainment" in Saudi Arabia "apart from football matches".

In 2003, Muhammad Saad al-Beshi, whom the BBC described as "Saudi Arabia's leading executioner", gave a rare interview to Arab News. He described his first execution in 1998: "The criminal was tied and blindfolded. With one stroke of the sword I severed his head. It rolled metres away...People are amazed how fast [the sword] can separate the head from the body." He also said that before an execution he visits the victim's family to seek forgiveness for the criminal, which can lead to the criminal's life being spared. Once an execution goes ahead, his only conversation with the prisoner is to tell him or her to recite the Muslim declaration of belief, the Shahada. "When they get to the execution square, their strength drains away. Then I read the execution order, and at a signal I cut the prisoner's head off," he said. --Wiki

The use of capital punishment in Saudi Arabia is based on Sharia (or Islamic law) and is prominent internationally because of the wide range of crimes which can result in the death penalty and because it is usually carried out by public beheading. In 2011, the Saudi government reported 26 executions in the country. Amnesty International counted a minimum of 79 in 2013. Foreigners are not exempt, accounting for "almost half" of executions in 2013. In fact, there are many foreigners (especially those from the developing world) who are routinely executed mainly for drug smuggling and murder. There has not been any report of a Western national being executed in the recent history of Saudi Arabia.

Unlike executions in most other countries that have not abolished the death penalty, executions of offenders are not performed privately in prisons, but publicly in central Riyadh, and have been called the "only form of public entertainment" in Saudi Arabia "apart from football matches". It is one of the last four countries to still carry out public executions and the only country to carry them on regularly.

Do you have good taste in films of a sultry nature? Well, for all you connoisseurs out there, the Chinese Government may have the perfect job.

China employs a hoard of film judges. The Chinese government pays them to watch any and every video on the web that is remotely pornographic. Some judges claim to watch 700 videos from beginning to end each week to determine whether they should be censored. If the video is deemed unsavory in terms of Chinese censorship standards, the judges scrub the filthy content from the web to fulfill their mission of returning the Internet to a “clean and safe state.”

But if you were thinking of applying, hold your horses if you live the single life. All judges are required to be married. However, you may be able to join the fun if you’d be willing to forgo the $32,000 salary; over 3,000 Chinese men and women are volunteer judges with the Beijing Internet Association. -- http://listverse.com/
