ZZ Top (pronounced /ËŒziːziːˈtÉ'p/) is an American rock trio formed in late 1969 in Houston, Texas, US. The group members are Billy Gibbons (lead vocals, guitar), Dusty Hill (vocals, bass, keyboards), and Frank Beard (drums, percussion).

The band holds the distinction of being among the few rock bands still composed of its original recording members for nearly 40 years[1] and until September 2006, the same manager/producer/image maker, Bill Ham.

ZZ Top reached peak commercial success in the 1970s and 1980s, scoring many hit songs during that era, but they remain together today and are still touring and releasing albums. ZZ Top was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 15, 2004. Summarizing their music, Cub Koda wrote, "As genuine roots musicians, they have few peers; Gibbons is one of America's finest blues guitarists working in the hard rock idiom ... while Hill and Beard provide the ultimate rhythm section support."[2] Their song lyrics often feature sexual innuendo and humor.

The Doobie Brothers

In 1969, singer, guitarist and songwriter Tom Johnston and drummer John Hartman formed the nucleus of what would become The Doobie Brothers. Skip Spence of Moby Grape (and formerly of Jefferson Airplane) introduced them to one another after Hartman arrived in California determined to meet Spence and join an aborted Grape reunion. New bandmates Johnston and Hartman called their fledgling group Pud and experimented with different lineups (occasionally in the lineups was Spence) and styles as they performed in and around San Jose. They were mostly a power trio (along with bassist Greg Murphy) but briefly worked with a horn section. In 1970, they teamed up with bass player Dave Shogren and singer, guitarist and songwriter Patrick Simmons. Simmons, who had belonged to several area groups (among them was the band "Scratch", which was an acoustic trio with future Doobies bassist Tiran Porter) and also performed as a solo artist, was already an accomplished fingerstyle player whose approach to the instrument complemented Johnston's rhythmic R&B strumming. In a recent interview, Tom Johnston attributed the band's eventual name to friend and housemate Keith "Dyno" Rosen, who noted the guys' fondness for "doobies

Madonna

Madonna Louise Ciccone Ritchie (born August 16, 1958), known as Madonna, is an American recording artist and entertainer. Born in Bay City, Michigan and raised in Rochester Hills, Michigan, Madonna moved to New York City for a career in modern dance. After performing as member of the pop musical groups Breakfast Club and Emmy, she released her self-titled debut album in 1983, and then produced three consecutive number-one studio albums on the Billboard 200 in the 1980s and four more since year 2000.

Madonna is known for exploring religious symbolism and sexual themes in her work. This drew criticism from the Vatican in the late 1980s.[2] In 1992, she founded an entertainment company, Maverick, which published a book of photographs (Sex). She also released a studio album (Erotica) and starred in a film (Body of Evidence) with erotic themes. These works generated negative publicity and coincided with a fall in commercial sales in the 1990s.[3] Madonna's career was revived in 1998, when the release of her album Ray of Light garnered critical acclaim.

R.E.M. is an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1980 by Michael Stipe (lead vocals), Peter Buck (guitar), Mike Mills (bass guitar), and Bill Berry (drums and percussion). R.E.M. was one of the first popular alternative rock bands, and gained early attention due to Buck's ringing, arpeggiated guitar style and Stipe's unclear vocals. R.E.M. released its first single, "Radio Free Europe", in 1981 on the independent record label Hib-Tone. The single was followed by the Chronic Town EP in 1982, the band's first release on I.R.S. Records. In 1983, the band released its critically acclaimed debut album Murmur, and built its reputation over the next few years through subsequent releases, constant touring, and the support of college radio. Following years of underground success, R.E.M. achieved a mainstream hit in 1987 with the single "The One I Love". The group signed to Warner Bros. Records in 1988, and began to espouse political and environmental concerns while playing large arenas worldwide.

Very good topic Indayon, the answer is no. We still have this conservative institution where in the  family the woman stays at home care for the kids and the man is the breadwinner. The Pinay women nowadays are working also on their careers but in terms of family household she is still the housekeeper.
If the role is reversed, then  that means that the society is ready to see women do the courting. My opinion.

Kay kining mga Arabo tag-as ug garbo abi sa Hamas adunay pirmi magpaloyo nila. Karon asa naman ang Arab league? They know that Israel possess an elite and disciplined group. Benjamin Netanyahu gave an interview and was asked about Israel 's occupation of Arab lands -- his response was "It's our land."  The reporter (CNN or the like) was stunned -- read on.

Here are overlooked facts in the current Middle East  situation.   These were compiled by a Christian university professor.

BRIEF FACTS ON THE ISRAELI CONFLICT TODAY....  ( It takes just 1.5 minutes to read!!!! )

It makes sense and it's not slanted.  Jew and non-Jew -- it doesn't matter.

    1. Nationhood and Jerusalem.  Israel  became a nation in 1312 B.C.E. Two thousand years before the rise of Islam.

    2. Arab refugees in Israel began identifying themselves as part of a Palestinian people in 1967, two decades after the establishment of the modern State of Israel .

    3. Since the Jewish conquest in 1272 B.C.E., the Jews have had dominion over the land for one thousand years with a continuous presence in the land for the past 3,300 years.

    4. The only Arab dominion since the conquest in 635 C.E. Lasted no more than 22 years.

    5. For over 3,300 years, Jerusalem has been the Jewish capital.  Jerusalem has never been the capital of any Arab or Muslim entity.  Even when the Jordanians occupied Jerusalem, they never sought to make it their capital, and Arab leaders did not come to visit.

    6.  Jerusalem is mentioned over 700 times in Tanach, the Jewish Holy Scriptures.   Jerusalem  is not mentioned once in the Koran.

    7. King David founded the city of Jerusalem.  Mohammed never came to Jerusalem.

    8. Jews pray facing Jerusalem.  Muslims pray with their backs toward Jerusalem.

    9. Arab and Jewish Refugees: In 1948 the Arab refugees were encouraged to leave Israel by Arab leaders promising to purge the land of Jews.  Sixty-eight percent left without ever seeing an Israeli soldier.

    10. The Jewish refugees were forced to flee from Arab lands due to Arab brutality, persecution and pogroms.

    11. The number of Arab refugees who left Israel in 1948 is estimated to be around 630,000.  The number of Jewish refugees from Arab lands is estimated to be the same.

    12. Arab refugees were INTENTIONALLY not absorbed or integrated into the Arab lands to which they fled, despite the vast Arab territory. Out of the 100,000,000 refugees since World War II, theirs is the only refugee group in the world that has never been absorbed or integrated into their own peoples' lands.  Jewish refugees were completely absorbed into Israel, a country no larger than the state of New Jersey.

    13. The Arab - Israeli Conflict: The Arabs are represented by eight separate nations, not including the Palestinians. There is only one Jewish nation.  The Arab nations initiated all five wars and lost.   Israel defended itself each time and won.

    14. The P.L.O.'s Charter still calls for the destruction of the State of Israel.  Israel has given the Palestinians most of the West Bank land, autonomy under the Palestinian Authority, and has supplied them.

    15. Under Jordanian rule, Jewish holy sites were desecrated and the Jews were denied access to places of worship.  Under Israeli rule, all Muslim and Christian sites have been preserved and made accessible to people of all faiths.

    16. The U.N. Record on Israel and the Arabs: of the 175 Security Council resolutions passed before 1990, 97 were directed against Israel.

    17. Of the 690 General Assembly resolutions voted on before 1990, 429 were directed against  Israel.

    18. The U.N was silent while 58 Jerusalem Synagogues were destroyed by the Jordanians.

    19. The U.N. Was silent while the Jordanians systematically desecrated the ancient Jewish cemetery on the Mount of Olives.

    20. The U.N. Was silent while the Jordanians enforced an apartheid-like a policy of preventing Jews from visiting the Temple Mount  and the Western Wall.

What can you do?  What will you tell your grandchildren what you did when there was a turning point in Jewish destiny, an opportunity to make a difference?

Jurgenne H. Primavera

Jurgenne H. Primavera, senior scientist of the Aquaculture Department of the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center based in Iloilo, central Philippines, for more than two decades has been a tireless champion of replacing unsustainable aquaculture practices with sustainable ones. In her early research career, in the 1970s, her studies of the early phases of the shrimp life cycle contributed to aquaculture know-how and practice, enabling this food-producing strategy to flourish in the world's mangrove areas, including some in her own country. As she learned first-hand about the environmental and socioeconomic perils that poorly managed and overextended aquaculture can bring, she began to investigate and develop mangrove-friendly aquafarming methods in order to move toward a sustainable industry that provides food and jobs while also preserving the environment. Trained in zoology and marine science, Primavera has published and lectured extensively on aquaculture and mangrove issues. Among her numerous awards and honors are her induction as a foreign member into the Swedish Royal Academy of Agriculture and Forestry and an honorary doctoral degree from Stockholm University. Earlier this year, she was chosen as a Pew Fellow in that organization's program in marine conservation.

The natural right and duty of parents in the rearing of the youth for civic efficiency and the development of moral character shall receive the aid and support of the government.

This is good in the constitution only, our government is not giving its own duty to protect its citizens, so most of us go outside the country to feed the family at home,  so the family as a basic social institution is not holding true.  Kids whose parents are OFW are turning to be spoiled and undisciplined.  You don´t wonder there are lots of drug addicts nowadays.

Since September 2000, the intricate network of smuggling tunnels under the Philadelphi Route has functioned as an import conduit for a significant amount of diverse weapons utilized by Palestinian terrorist groups, including:
RPG rockets and launchers
Explosives
Rifles (primarily AK-47 Kalashnikovs)
Cartridges, bullets and other ammunition
In August 2005, Israel and Egypt finalized an agreement regarding the deployment of approximately 750 Egyptian border guards along the Philadelphi route. The agreement stipulated that Israel withdraw from the 12 kilometer-long route (which was created to prevent arms smuggling into the Gaza Strip) shortly after the disengagement. The agreement was subsequently ratified by the Knesset and Egyptian troops deployed along Philadelphi in September. 2

However, it should be noted that Egypt continues to turn a blind eye towards Palestinian weapons smuggling.

"These tunnels are not just foxholes," said Maj. Ron Edelheit, an Israeli Army spokesman. "They are very complicated structures. They're long. They have electricity. They have trails and tracks going through them."

Stretching as far as three quarters of a mile, the underground interstate is big enough for a barnyard of livestock to be smuggled through.

That's not what bothers Israel.

"Food? Who cares; but when we talk about bombs and rockets and TNT and C4 and you name it, that terrorizes the Israeli population that surrounds it, this is not something the state of Israel can live by," Edelheit said.

To win the war, Israel says it needs to stop the smuggling of arms and explosives.

Military sources believe aerial bombardment so far has destroyed about 200 tunnels. But 100 more may still be in use.

The excavation of smuggling tunnels in the Rafah area began in 1982, subsequent to the division of the city between Egypt and the Gaza Strip. Since then, the tunnels have been used to smuggle foreign currency, weapons, clothes, cigarettes, narcotics, alcohol, auto parts, electronic items, and prostitutes from Egyptian Rafah to the Palestinian areas of the Gaza Strip.

Due to the exorbitant prices charged for the transport of illicit goods, the smuggling industry often constitutes a primary source of income for entire families in the area. As such, tunnel entrances are frequently dug under the houses of Rafah residents.

The average smuggling tunnel is approximately 500 meters in length, and dozens of meters deep. Smuggling tunnels may be equipped with wood-paneling, electrical infrastructure, communications gear, and rudimentary elevators.

I-apil man sila og bomba sa Israel.
Ang kakosog sa Israel ang panaghi-usa sa mga Hudyo. Kay matod pa sa balaan ng kasolatan sila ang pinili sa Diyos ug ma-ila ang promised land.
There was a time that they were really a good comrpomise from the peace seeking politicians from Israel. the European Union supported building the Palestine anew. An amount of 5 million Euros was released to build a new and modern airport, dis-a man ni  padolong ang kwarta? Tua sa pamilya ni Arafat ug sa iyang mga barkada. Ilang mga pamilya ug mga anak nangiskwela sa Paris! Dagko ug mga poloy-anan, apan ang mga normal nga Palestines one day one eat. The money which was given to them are taxes from the European members.
There are no journalists allowed to report about the war. We are getting reports from the Israeli Military press. Who would check if what they are telling is true? At the other side, Hamas are releasing pictures of dead children, bombed schools and houses but no Hamas or Palestines with their high weaponry, kay ma-bisto nga adunay naga supply nila. So its not wise to believe what you see in the news.
Sad to say this is an endless enmity.

So when my parents decided to return to Bohol I was barely 17, makasabot nako pag ajo, jungit lang. If the language is taught bilingually its not hard for the kids.
My comments about english proficiency; rich German families enroll their kids in an International school where english is spoken through and through and German takes only 2 hour per day, that is during german languages course only. So you could imagine that they know english proficiency brings an edge.
English is truly lingua franca, in space english is the language.

The Eagles are an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California during the early 1970s. The group chose the name Eagles as a nod to The Byrds (Leadon had been in Dillard & Clark with former Byrds singer Gene Clark and in The Flying Burrito Brothers with former Byrds Gram Parsons, Chris Hillman, and Michael Clarke). Comedian Steve Martin records in his autobigraphy, Born Standing Up, that Frey was very particular that the name was Eagles and not The Eagles.

The Rolling Stones are an English rock band. The band formed in 1962 in London when original leader Brian Jones and pianist Ian Stewart were joined by vocalist Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards. Jagger and Richards early on formed a songwriting partnership and gradually took over leadership of the band from the increasingly troubled and erratic Jones. Bassist Bill Wyman and drummer Charlie Watts completed the early lineup. Stewart, deemed unsuitable as a teen idol, was removed from the official lineup in 1963 but continued to work with the band as road manager and keyboardist until his death in 1985.

Ang sayop niani kining mga kwartahan nga mopalit sa mga antik ug i-panghambog. I met a rich lady who showed off her big Sta Cruz a black wood which was assumed as more than 100 years old. It was very shameful for me, I told her if she doesn´t get bad conscience, she said no.

Talk of the Town / 3 pre-need firms close unilaterally

3 pre-need firms close unilaterally
The Securities and Exchange Commission yesterday said three pren-eed firms have stopped operations without its approval, calling on all plan holders to immediately file claims.

The corporate watchdog said on its Web site that Legacy Consolidated Plans, Inc., Scholarship Plan Phil., Inc., and All Asia Plans Corp. have unilaterally ceased operations.

"The commission urges the plan holders of the said pre-need companies to file on or before March 2009 their sworn complaint with the non-traditional securities and instruments department," the notice dated Jan. 15 read.

Last month, Legacy Consolidated and Scholarship Plans filed petitions for voluntary dissolution with eight other preneed firms. Legacy Consolidated, which has the same owner as the group of rural banks that recently shut down operations, blamed poor economic conditions.

The SEC has relaxed some rules covering the pre-need sector after the Federation of Pre-need Companies of the Philippines warned that the industry could collapse without help from regulators. The group had blamed the cost of servicing old plans with high interest rates as well as the economic slowdown.

The commission said the closed firms should have established a trust fund to cover claims of plan holders.

"Please be informed that the commission has taken all the necessary actions under the circumstances to ensure the preservation of the existing funds of the said companies so that their proceeds can be used to pay only for legitimate claims," the letter said

Talk of the Town / Re: ICM Raffle Draw Hysteria
January 17, 2009, 03:29:11 AM
I have some second thoughts now after reading the first thread 3 times; it is only the schedule which was prematurely done. The question is , was the raffle draw held on that day correct and properly handled? If there were no irregularities on the side of the ICM administration then  our complain would be about the premature schedule.
I think there are legal observers during the raffle draw, were they aware of this? Is this an irregularity in the eyes of the Phil law?
I know that a representative from a government agency who take a watch on occasions like this, I don´t know the term and the legal technicalities, we need some advise from members who are lawyers in this Forum.

I appreciate your postings, thank you so much. Now I could align my wavelength,  so I assume that you are as old as my daughter ( Mayumi is 26).
It is very seldom to find someone who traces back the roots of their  parents at this tender age of yours and that you are analysing the history of their emigration to America.  I could remember when my parents talked about relatives abroad, they were treated as somewhat special. I learned english in highs school and were encouraged to pronounce it like real americans. A first degree cousin got a Fullbright scholarship in Hawaii University and the rest of them became professional nurses and medical doctors all in the USA. So in retrospect, what is my country Philippines worth for me at all? Is it inferior to America?

Plastination is a technique used in anatomy to preserve bodies or body parts. The water and fat are replaced by certain plastics, yielding specimens that can be touched, do not smell or decay, and even retain most microscopic properties of the original sample.[1]

We can compose a letter expressing our disgust, we will tell them that this letter will be open to the public in what ever form, okay? And we will see how they explain their side which will be open to the public also.  Dili nato palabyon ining higayona kay kon ako nag gunit sa  stubs sa ticket , it will insult me as a customer.

mga Bol-anon ug mga higala,

I would like to make a petition on-line to say/react and to express our disgust about the conduct of this raffle tickets.  This is not a laughing matter, the disappointment is great.  We have some strategies to express our feelings like faxing our sentiments on a certain time simultaneously for example 8.00 A.M. The office will run out of papers and the fax machine will breakdown. We can send emails with the same procedure. I know that we have members here who works for the A.... group. It would be nice if they just keep themselves silent. Attention Wardiflex and Alfonso Potane at iba pa.
This tactic works, this is practiced by a big organization.
I would like to hear your feedbacks  Mike, Admins and the rest of the members who might sympathize with the exploited customers of ....

Ben,

The hardships we underwent made us strong! From this lesson we know now what counts most in life. Sure we strive hard to give the best materially,  speaking to our children.  The best we could is to instill in their minds  the virtues of faith, perseverance compassion and the rest of good qualitites that makes a man, a real man.
In my opinion you can measure yourself through your kids. If they are well bred children, then your role and  existence as father/parent is not in vain.

Hi Ben,

I feel like singing the song , gonna sail a sentimental journey.
I used to travel Butuan-Jagna because I spent almost 9 years in Davao City. Everytime I arrive Jagna pantalan, the atmosphere is really different, Bohol na!  Now I remember ang mga taga Guindulman hilig manggimo ug Kolera!  I never get this practice anyway.
I think we are getting the point in our lives were we start confronting our past. I am starting to evaluate what I have done so far. at my age 58, with 2 kids 26 and 15, what is left in my life?

It has to be,  to preserve the existence of Israel. The Hamas has an underground system where all supplies are transported. The logistics are financed by Iran. The Gaza stripe is a very small area with a population of almost 1.7 Palestines in an area of 360 sq km. With this dense population and Hamas who mingles with other moderate Palestines, it is not avoidable that the casualty is high.

Lambanog is a tagalog term for local wines which is a 100% natural sources hence organic.  These can be from coconut, sugar cane rice or sasa, a member of the family of palm that commonly grow in areas near rivers and swamps.
If the source is rice you can compare it to Sake( Japanese rice wine). Tasting lambanog is somewhat like Grappa ( Italian sort of Vodka) .
They are served in small glasses because they are really strong, imagine drinking Cuatro cantos( Marka demonyo) pure.  Magum-ok imong nawong sa ka-isog!

Kandule is the tagalog term for catfish. Unsay tawag gani sa ato?
