to hear about my parents ' delicate condition, while i'm too far away from them, is very painfully hard. i always suffer nostalgia and am wanting to quit this place. but they need my help. and that makes things a bit heavy in my heart.
nonetheless, knowing the fact that they are "happy and alive" is good enough for me to be strong. as they're my inspiration, that God provides me in this freezing world. (kini sa lang).

i'm appalled at how some states in the US are rather too harsh to punish these young offenders. it seems they are not aware of the extent of the technology and what it ca do. they should redefine their law regarding this issue to avoid this type of punishment which i think too heavy for such first-time "friendly" offense. 

moment of sadness, suffering or pain can break any person. it strikes us at any time due to a loss, tragedy, separation, sickness or death. then we try to cope and get over with it. one day at a time. for many, to do it takes a lot of strength from yourself.

each person's experience of drawing strength is a learning pool for many. maybe, yours can be, too.

AIG Restructures Bonuses to Extend Bailout

Embattled Insurer Says Bonuses Can't Be Cancelled Because of Contracts

Embattled insurance giant American International Group, the recipient of more than $180 billion in government aid, has agreed to restructure the terms of corporate bonuses after Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner demanded changes, an Obama administration official tells ABC News.

The government's bailout of AIG now tops $160 billion. That and other government bailout spending could result in higher taxes down the road, experts say.

The official said Geithner, in a phone call on Wednesday, told AIG CEO Edward Liddy that it was unacceptable for the company to give out tens of millions of dollars in bonuses for senior executives, as they are planning to do this week. Liddy wrote to Geithner telling him that the bonuses could not be cancelled altogether for breach-of-contract reasons, but AIG would change the terms of some of the payments.

AIG has been the largest recipient of financial help as the government has spent trillions to address the current crisis.

In four tranches of funds, the most recent coming just weeks ago, the insurance giant has been bailed out by over $180 billion in federal aid, but this week's bonuses for senior executives were agreed upon before the government's rescue efforts began.

Geithner has been a vocal critic of the damage that some executives have done in doling out massive bonuses even as their companies were collapsing.

At a Senate Budget Committee hearing Thursday, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., expressed his outrage about "greed on Wall Street."

"I completely share your sense of basic outrage and anger," Geithner replied. "I understand how powerful it is across the country. You're absolutely right that the judgments made by the leaders of our financial institutions have caused a catastrophic loss of basic confidence. It's making everything worse."

Earlier in the week, Geithner emphasized in an interview with PBS's Charlie Rose that some executives had "made some exceptionally bad judgments."

"As they got themselves in the position where they needed exceptional assistance from the government, many of those directors made things dramatically worse by continuing to pay out really unjustifiable bonuses to their senior executives and they were losing tens of billions of dollars," Geithner said.

Twenty percent of teens admit to engaging in x-rated text messaging.

These days the disturbing new trend in teenage flirting is sending nude or semi-nude photos from cell phone to cell phone: instead of "texting," they call it called "sexting."

While the X-rated offerings are usually intended just for a boyfriend or girlfriend, the photos often wind up being shared.

While 17-year-old Matthew Younger of Maryland says he has never done anything like this himself, he has seen it happen among his peers.

"If a boy meets a girl or has a girlfriend on summer break he comes back and shows all his boys the [naked] pictures he's been sent. No one gives it that much thought really," says Younger.

The dangerous combination of teenagers behaving provocatively and impulsively is not new, but the accessibility to the technology is. With cell phone cameras, they have been handed a tool so easy to use for some it's impossible to pass up.

And in the transparent culture built around social networking sites, it all spreads like wildfire.

"Somebody might send it to somebody else's phone and that person has Facebook on the their phone and they automatically upload it to their Facebook or MySpace page," explains Somalia Yaborow, 16, of Alexandria, Va.

What teens don't realize is just how serious the consequences can be.

News reports are increasingly documenting legal repercussions after indecent photo appear online. And attorneys say there are many unanswered questions about whether young people who send their own photos could face prosecution for obscenity or child pornography.

This year in Wisconsin, a 17-year-old was charged with possessing child pornography after he posted naked pictures of his 16-year-old ex-girlfriend online.

In Alabama, authorities arrested four middle-school students for exchanging nude photos of themselves. In Rochester, N.Y., a 16-year-old boy is now facing up to seven years in prison for forwarding a nude photo of a 15-year-old girlfriend to his friends.

Discovery blasts off for mission to international space station

NASA's Discovery space shuttle took off Sunday evening from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida for the international space station after the mission was delayed for a month by technical problems.

The shuttle took off at 7:43 p.m. ET from Cape Canaveral with its seven-member crew, including Koichi Wakata, who will stay on the space station as Japan's first resident crew member.

The other shuttle astronauts will be on a two-week mission and are expected to install the final set of solar panels at the space station.

A hydrogen leak that temporarily stopped the mission Wednesday did not reappear Sunday. The ground crew apparently fixed the problem by replacing some seals and a quick-disconnect valve on the shuttle's big orange fuel tank.

Before that, valve concerns delayed the flight, which was originally scheduled to launch in mid-February.

Because of the postponements, the mission has been shortened by a day to 13 days and one of four spacewalks has been dropped. That's because Discovery needs to leave the space station before a Russian rocket takes off to install a new crew at the space station March 26.

i think this crime can be abated by vigilance and encouraging people take a collective effort to watch and report any suspicious-looking people in their communities. enhance the barangay tanud forces and presence especially in schools. coordinate each other thru texting.

to my knowledge, these criminals are so brazen that even in the presence of a death penalty law, it won't stop them a bit. one can't wait for the government to enact or resurrect such "death" law when some kids/children are beginning to disappear. a concerned community can do enough to battle this crime with proper awareness and coordination with the authorities.
