The worst experience I ever had in blushing was probably in my third year in high school. It was in physiology anatomy class, haha i can remember it like it was just yesterday. The teacher I had was Ms. Pelletier, and she was like a recent college grad, at least around 24 or 25, but anyways, this woman had the largest rack ive ever seen in my life. And you know how adolescent teenagers are, filled with testosterone and a pumping sexual drive. So ya hahahaha! I remember asking her a question about the brachiaradialis muscle of the cat we were dissecting, and i realized that i had an erection in my pants when talking to her. She noticed it, and i noticed it. It was such an odd moment, because she was looking at me and i could see that she was trying to hold herself from busting out laughing, lol. Ive never blushed so red in my life, hahaha, and i asked if i could be excused to the bathroom. :P

KARACHI, Pakistan (AP) -- Police questioned three people Saturday over the bombing of Benazir Bhutto's caravan, which killed at least 136 people and shattered what was intended to be a triumphant return from exile.

The men were linked to a vehicle that police think was used by one of the attackers who threw a grenade at the convoy late Thursday, causing Bhutto's campaign bus to come to a halt, said a senior investigator who spoke Saturday on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the investigation.

Seconds later, a suicide bomber blew himself up with a shrapnel-filled explosive. Police detained the three men in southern Punjab province -- a center for militancy -- and took them to Karachi for questioning.

The senior investigator said police believed the men, who have yet to be charged, hold crucial clues about the bombing.

The attack was the deadliest in Pakistan's history, turning Bhutto's jubilant homecoming parade into a scene of carnage. More than 200 were injured.

Pakistan's government on Saturday denied involvement in the attack, while sporadic violence flared in Karachi, a boisterous city of 15 million people. Angry over the suicide bombing, supporters of Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party threw stones and burned tires in parts of the city.

Bhutto, 54, hopes to earn a third term as prime minister in January's parliamentary elections. She returned to Pakistan on Thursday after a self-imposed, eight-year exile.

She was prime minister from 1988 until 1990, when her government was dismissed amid corruption allegations that she denied. She returned to power in 1993, but again her government was dismissed amid corruption allegations in 1996.

JERUSALEM (CNN) -- A Palestinian militant cell planned to assassinate Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert during a recent visit to the West Bank city of Jericho, Israeli media reported Sunday.

The plot -- described at an Israeli cabinet meeting Sunday morning -- was foiled after Israeli security services passed on the identities of the militants to the Palestinian Authority, the Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz reported.

However, the alleged plotters -- all from Fatah, the Party loyal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas -- have been released, despite admitting to the plot, the newspaper said, citing an Israeli official.

But a spokesman for Tawfiq Tirawi, the head of Palestinian security services in the West Bank, told CNN the men were still in custody and being interrogated.

The suspected plot was set to coincide with a trip by Olmert to meet with Abbas in Jericho on August 6, Haaretz reported.

Word of the foiled plot came to light Sunday morning when Yuval Diskin, head of Israel's domestic Shin Bet security service, gave details during a weekly meeting of the Israeli cabinet.

According to the newspaper, Diskin told the meeting that the militants were planning to intercept Olmert's convoy as it approached the entrance to Jericho. There were no specific details of how they planned to attack the Israeli leader.

Diskin said several suspects were arrested by the Palestinians after a tip-off from the intelligence services, and other members of the cell were arrested by Israeli security forces.

A senior political source in Jerusalem told Haaretz that Israel was incensed by reports that the suspects had been freed last week. The source said Olmert had lodged a complaint with President Abbas.

When contacted by CNN, a spokeswoman for the Israeli prime minister declined to comment on the reports.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki met Sunday with the top U.S. military commander in Iraq to voice his outrage over the reported deaths of Iraqi civilians during a Sunday morning military raid in Baghdad's Sadr City, a government spokesman told CNN.

Al-Maliki expressed his concerns to Gen. David Petraeus over Iraqi reports that 10 to 15 civilians were killed in the raid, spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh told CNN's "Late Edition."

The U.S. military said its ground forces are "unaware" of civilian deaths in the early morning raid that it said left 49 "criminals" dead.

"There is a great tension in the Iraqi government" over the incident, al-Dabbagh said.

During Sunday's meeting, he said al-Maliki "clearly mentioned that this excessive force ... by the Multi-National Forces used against civilians [is] not creating a good atmosphere."

An Iraqi Interior Ministry source told CNN that 15 civilians were killed -- all men -- and 52 other civilians were wounded, including women and children.

Sadr City's mayor, Hassan Adhab, told Iraqi state TV there were 10 "martyrs" -- including a mother and her three children -- and 42 others were wounded.

Coalition forces were targeting a man they said was a leader in an Iranian-funded kidnapping operation. U.S. military spokeswoman Sgt. Nicole Dykstra told CNN the target was "neither apprehended nor killed."

Adhab described a bloody scene, saying dozens of sheep were killed in the melee, and military aircraft still hovered over the neighborhood hours after the raid.

He blamed American forces for targeting cars carrying people who were heading to work early Sunday.

"We call upon Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki to stop such immoral acts in Sadr City," Adhab said.

When asked about the Sadr City raid, the spokesman for the Baghdad Security Plan said Iraqi forces take every measure to avoid civilian casualties.

"If there are innocent civilian casualties in Sadr City or anywhere else -- then that is unfortunate," Brig. Gen. Qassim Atta said. "We hope both the Multi-National Forces and the Iraqi Security Forces demonstrate military restraint and respect human rights."

U.S.-Iraq relations have been strained since a September 16 shooting incident in Baghdad that left 17 civilians dead. Some in Iraq have accused Blackwater USA security contractors, whose guards are assigned to State Department officials, for indiscriminately killing the civilians. The incident is still under investigation.

Sadr City raid

The U.S. military said the joint ground forces were fired upon as they were clearing several buildings in the "target area."

"Supporting aircraft was called in to suppress the enemy fire, killing an estimated six criminals," a military news release stated.

"The operation's objective was an individual reported to be a longtime Special Groups member specializing in kidnapping operations," the military said. "Intelligence indicates he is a well-known cell leader and has previously sought funding from Iran to carry out high profile kidnappings."

The military said its forces were hit by a roadside bomb as they left the area, but the blast did not cause any casualties among coalition forces.

The Iraqi Interior Ministry spokesman said many cars and many homes were damaged in the battle.

The ministry spokesman said the firefight took place between 1:30 a.m. (6:30 p.m. ET) and 6 a.m. (11 p.m. ET) in Sadr City, a densely populated Shiite slum where there is much grass-roots support for Iran and anti-American Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr.

"Special Groups are Shiite extremist militant groups trained, funded and supplied primarily by Iran through the Islamic Revolutionary Guards -- Quds Force," said U.S. Army Lt. Justin Cole.

"Special Groups have evolved over the past three years into insurgent elements using a cellular structure and operating independently."

"Special Groups operate throughout Iraq," Cole said. "They plan and execute bombings, kidnappings, sectarian murders and more against Iraqi citizens, Iraqi forces and coalition personnel."

World Daily News / Strikes paralyze Paris transport
October 22, 2007, 12:45:46 PM
PARIS, France (CNN) -- France's public transportation network came to a halt Thursday as public sector workers staged a series of strikes in what is seen as the first big test for President Nicolas Sarkozy's government.

Subways, buses, and regional trains were all out of service, leading to traffic jams as commuters used their cars to get to work. Airlines were operating as usual, but some flights were delayed because employees were having trouble getting to work.

Many Parisians took advantage of the capital's free bicycle program. Others hopped on scooters or strapped on Rollerblades, and some workers simply took the day off altogether.

The walkout began Wednesday night and was expected to last 24 hours, but the backlog of services could mean the effects of the strike last much longer.

There are fears it could impact the thousands of rugby fans heading to Paris for Saturday's World Cup final between England and South Africa.

Most international train services were still running, however. About 80 percent of Eurostar train services between Paris and London were operating Thursday, as were about 60 percent of Thalys high-speed trains between Paris and Brussels, Amsterdam and Cologne.

In addition to the transport sector, power, gas, and some postal workers were also on strike.

The labor action is a response to Sarkozy's pension reform plans, which formed a large part of his election campaign. Because he was elected by a large majority, Sarkozy feels he has a mandate to stand firm in the face of the strikes.

"In France, we cannot have anymore a face-off between the state and the street," said economist Eloi Laurent. "Whatever the temptation of the government is, the government has to find a new way to deal with that. I think that (Sarkozy's) convinced of that."

Previous attempts to reform the pension plans have failed. In 1995, Prime Minister Alain Juppe backed down after three weeks of strikes in response to his efforts.

This time, however, the government has greater public support, and it is focusing its reforms on special pension plans which allow some workers -- mostly train drivers -- to retire as early as age 50.

About 1.5 million French workers qualify for this plan.

World Daily News / Libya to sit on Security Council
October 22, 2007, 12:44:28 PM
UNITED NATIONS (CNN) -- Four years after renouncing terrorism and abandoning its WMD programs, Libya Tuesday won a two-year term on the U.N. Security Council.

The U.N. General Assembly approved Tripoli's candidacy for a spot on the 15-member council with 178 votes.

In May 2006, the United States restored full diplomatic relations with Libya and removed it from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, where it had been for 27 years.

Three years earlier, Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi had made an abrupt about-face after the fall of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, renouncing support for terrorism and agreeing to give up Libya's missiles and weapons of mass destruction.

In early 2004, Libya handed over its nuclear components and documents related to the country's WMD program, which were taken to a U.S. facility in Tennessee.

Later that year, the United States ended a 18-year trade embargo against Libya and lifted a ban on Americans traveling there.

While Tripoli has worked to re-establish itself in global good graces, it has fallen short in living up to commitments it made under a settlement agreement with the families of victims of the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988.

"They have not fully paid the restitution to the families," said Katherine Flynn, the mother of one of the 270 people were killed in the attack.

A Libyan intelligence agent was convicted of planting the bomb that blew the plane up over Scotland.

Flynn said she found it "outrageous that there's even a concept of putting Libya, who has been sanctioned by the United Nations and has not fulfilled its obligation ... with regard to those sanctions" on the 15-member Security Council.

"I cannot understand how a nation already under U.N. sanctions is going to become part of the Security Council that puts sanctions on countries," Flynn added. "This is absolutely an abomination as far as I'm concerned."

Libya's two-year term will begin in January 2008, but as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, it will not have veto power.

Tripoli is also trying to polish its tarnished image by hosting peace talks Oct. 27 on the conflict in Darfur.

World Daily News / Sri Lanka: Rebels attack air base
October 22, 2007, 12:43:03 PM
COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (CNN) -- Tamil Tiger rebels launched a deadly land and air attack on a Sri Lankan air base early Monday in the northern part of the country, triggering explosions and damaging aircraft, military sources said.

The attack at the air base at Anuradhapura began at 3:10 a.m. with rebels infiltrating the base in the country's north central province.

Residents in the area, who spoke by telephone, said they heard loud explosions and heavy gunfire. Shortly after the ground attack began, a rebel aircraft bombed the base, the sources added.

Police enforced an unofficial curfew for the area which has been sealed off as fighting continues.

Seven Sri Lankan Air Force personnel have been killed, including an officer and two airmen on the base, a military source said.

Four crew members on a Sri Lanka Air Force Bell helicopter were killed when their aircraft crash landed in Mihintale, near Anuradhapura. The immediate cause of the crash was not known.

There has been no official response to the incident so far except an admission by Defence Ministry sources that an attack had taken place. Officials downplayed the incident saying a small group had staged an attack.

Military sources said two Mi-24 helicopter gunships, a U.S. built Beechcraft reconnaissance plane and a Chinese built K-8 fighter jet, were damaged. However, air force officials declined comment.

Monday's strike was the first major attack on an air force base since the rebels demonstrated their air strike capability in March this year. The move, analysts say, is a direct retaliation for the month long raids on rebel positions by air force bombers.

It was only a week ago the rebels attacked an army detachment in southern Sri Lanka killing six soldiers.

Since 1983, the Tiger rebels have tried to create an independent state for the country's ethnic Tamil minority, who have faced discrimination by successive majority Sinhalese-controlled governments. The Associated Press reports more than 70,000 people have been killed during the conflict.

World Daily News / Pirate attacks increase worldwide
October 22, 2007, 12:40:09 PM
NAIROBI, Kenya (AP)  -- Pirate attacks worldwide jumped 14 percent in the first nine months of 2007, with the biggest increases off the poorly policed waters of Somalia and Nigeria, an international watchdog reported Tuesday.

Reported attacks in Somalia rose rapidly to 26 up from eight a year earlier, the London-based International Maritime Bureau said through its piracy reporting center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. And some of those hijackings have turned deadly.

"The seafaring industry is very concerned about this," said Cyrus Mody, a senior analyst with IMB. "There is absolutely no regard for law in that area. Not only is it not good for business in Africa, but it blocks humanitarian aid and is bad for the general stability of the continent."

The political instability in Somalia gave pirates "totally free rein without any sort of deterrence from the law," Mody said. "They've got a free hand right now."

Somalia has had 16 years of violence and anarchy, and is now led by a government battling to establish authority even in the capital. Its coasts are virtually unpoliced.

Piracy off Somalia increased this year after Ethiopian forces backing Somali government troops ousted an Islamic militia in December, said Andrew Mwangura, program coordinator of the Seafarers Assistance Program which independently monitors piracy in the region.

During the six months that the Council of Islamic Courts ruled most of southern Somalia, where Somali pirates are based, piracy abated, Mwangura said.

At one point, the Islamic group said it was sending scores of fighters to crack down on pirates there. Islamic fighters even stormed a hijacked UAE-registered ship and recaptured it after a gunbattle in which pirates -- but no crew members -- were reportedly wounded.

In May, pirates complaining their demands had not been met killed a crew member a month after seizing a Taiwan-flagged fishing vessel off Somalia's northeastern coast.

Pirates even targeted vessels on humanitarian missions, such as the MV Rozen, which was hijacked in February soon after it had delivered food aid to northeastern Somalia. The ship and its crew were released in April, but the World Food Program has since relied on more expensive air deliveries for Somalia.

Mwangura told The Associated Press that "some elements" in the Somali transitional federal government and some businessmen in Puntland, a northeastern Somalia region, are involved because "piracy is a lucrative business."

Somali government officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

IMB director Pottengal Mukundan urged ships to stay as far away as possible from the coasts of Somalia and Nigeria.

"The level of violence in high-risk areas remain unacceptable. Pirates in Somalia are operating with impunity, seizing vessels hundreds of miles off the coast and holding the vessel and crew to ransom, making no attempt to hide their activity," he said.

Indonesia remained the world's worst piracy hotspot, with 37 attacks in the first nine months of 2007. But that was an improvement from 40 in the same period a year earlier, IMB said.

Stephen Morrison, Director of the Africa Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said much piracy is linked to weak law of the sea and weak legal institutions.

"The pirates go out and hit ships with food relief cargo, they hit tourist liners," Morrison said. "There's a lawless environment with weak states and a weak institution. When there's opportunity, motivation and means, that's where there are clusters of piracy."

Oil-rich Nigeria suffered 26 pirate attacks so far this year, up from nine in the same period last year.

A Nigerian navy spokesman, Capt. Henry Babalola, said criminals are now targeting the most vulnerable vessels -- shipping trawlers -- because authorities have cracked down on crude oil theft. The pirates also seize valuable communications gear.

Mwangura said hundreds of thousands of dollars in ransom have been paid to secure the release of vessels hijacked this year and part of the money is, "paid through bank accounts of individuals in (Kenyan cities) Nairobi and Mombasa."

The IMB said Southeast Asia's Malacca Strait, one of the world's busiest waterways, has been relatively quiet with 198 attacks on ships reported between January and September, up from 174 in the same period in 2006.

It said 15 vessels were hijacked, 63 crew members kidnapped and three killed.

Joint efforts by Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia have kept piracy under control in the Malacca Strait, Mody said. Those states had poured a considerate amount of additional resources into fighting piracy since last year, including increased patrolling and law enforcement on the water.

SAN FRANCISCO IXHUATAN, Mexico (AP) -- Authorities have recovered the bodies of 15 Central American migrants whose boat capsized in the Pacific Ocean, the Mexican navy said on Saturday.

The vessel was believed to be carrying more than 20 migrants.

Survivor Noemi Martinez, 29, of El Salvador, said the boat departed from Guatemala and capsized Tuesday with more than 20 people aboard, according to Moises Hernandez, regional commander for ministerial police in Oaxaca.

State authorities identified the only other known survivor as Salvadoran Walter Alan, 23.

Search efforts were suspended on Saturday because of heavy rain that flooded rivers and creeks.

Earlier, a military helicopter searched the sea while state authorities combed the beach near the towns of San Francisco Ixhuatan and San Francisco del Mar, about 200 miles from the Guatemalan border.

"There are reports of more bodies, but the weather hasn't let us go out to sea," Oaxaca state public safety secretary Sergio Segreste said.

In a news release, the navy said the ship apparently was overloaded and capsized in heavy seas.

Authorities corrected earlier statements by state officials that 24 bodies had washed up in San Francisco del Mar and a nearby town.

Oaxaca state authorities on Saturday counted 11 bodies found, and it was not immediately possible to reconcile the discrepancy with information supplied by the navy.

The shipwreck signals that migrant smugglers may be increasingly turning to boats to transport Central Americans through Mexico, avoiding highway checkpoints.

Illegal migrants who used to travel as stowaways on railway freight cars also have been searching for new routes north since train service was interrupted this year on two railway lines.

World Daily News / Powerful Chinese leaders retire
October 22, 2007, 12:37:15 PM
BEIJING, China (CNN) -- Three aging members of the nine-member committee that rules China are retiring and their replacements will be selected by the Communist Party's central committee on Monday.

A fourth new member of the Politburo's standing committee will also be selected to replace Executive Vice Premier Huang Ju, who died earlier this year.

The retiring leaders include State Vice President Zeng Qinghong, 68, Wu Guanzheng, the 69-year-old head of China's anti-corruption body, and 72-year-old Luo Gan, who is in charge of the country's police and security apparatus.

There is an unwritten rule among party leaders that they retire when they approach the age of 70.

The Congress, comprised of 2,235 delegates from all over China, meets only every five years.

he elite standing committee, which is China's top policy-making body, is made up of nine members of the 20-member Politburo, which will also be named Sunday.

The three retirements became known when the Communist Party's 17th National Congress announced the 204 members of the central committee Sunday and the list did not include them.

World Daily News / Polls: Opposition leads in Poland
October 22, 2007, 12:34:19 PM
WARSAW, poland (AP) -- A pro-business opposition party that wants to bring Poland's troops home from Iraq was headed to an overwhelming victory in Sunday's parliamentary elections, exit polls showed, setting it up to oust the prime minister's staunchly pro-U.S. government.

It would be a stinging defeat for Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski, whose conservative Law and Justice party was elected two years ago and has since been criticized for its combative approach to the European Union and efforts to purge former communists from positions of influence.

Appearing before supporters late Sunday, Kaczynski said "we didn't manage in the face of this unprecedented broad front of attacks," referring to the opposition's campaign.

Donald Tusk, the leader of the opposition Civic Platform party, said the election showed that Poles want to focus on the economic opportunities presented by the country's membership in the EU, which Poland joined in 2004.

"It is Civic Platform's intention to make Poles feel much better in their own country than they have felt so far," Tusk told cheering supporters. "We are going to do huge work and we will do it well. You have the right to rejoice today."

State TV projections showed the Civic Platform party and its preferred coalition partner, the small Polish Peasants Party, winning a majority of seats in the lower house, which would allow them to form a government together and knock Kaczynski from power.

An exit poll for TVP state television showed 43.7 percent of people voting for Civic Platform and 30.4 percent choosing Kaczynski's Law and Justice party.

A TVN24 private television exit poll showed a 44.2 percent to 31.3 percent edge for Civic Platform, and also showed Civic Platform's preferred coalition partner, the Polish Peasants Party, with 7.9 percent -- enough to give the two parties a majority of the popular vote.

TVN24 showed Civic Platform winning 227 seats in parliament -- just four short of a majority on its own -- and the Peasants taking 27 seats for a potential 254-seat majority.

The government will not be formed until after coalition negotiations in the coming weeks.

High turnout caused some polling stations to run out of ballots and stay open longer than scheduled, delaying the release of the first exit polls for nearly three hours. By late afternoon, more than 38 percent of Poland's 30 million eligible voters had cast ballots, and some estimates had final turnout topping 50 percent.

Kaczynski had sought the elections two years ahead of schedule after his party could not overcome bickering with the two smaller parties it needed to form a majority.

Kaczynski has clashed with other EU countries over a new treaty to govern how the union makes decisions, demanding more say for Poland. He is also at odds with the EU over environmental protection, government support for Polish firms, and the death penalty, which he supports although Poland does not have it.

Kaczynski had gambled that the election would give him a stronger hand to govern, but he risked losing power to Tusk's Civic Platform, which has seen its support rise in the polls since an Oct. 12 televised debate that Tusk is widely seen as having won.

Voter Malgorzata Szulc, 21, said Kaczynski and his twin brother, President Lech Kaczynski, were too confrontational.

"The Kaczynskis have made a lot of enemies in Europe. We need friends, not enemies," she said at one of Warsaw's polling stations.

Tusk also wants strong ties with Washington. He has nonetheless questioned whether Kaczynski's two-year-old government was driving a strong enough bargain in negotiations to host 10 U.S. interceptor missiles aimed at stopping potential attacks from Iran.

The country's deployment training Iraqi security forces has been extended through the end of the year by the current government, but Kaczynski has suggested it could be extended again.

Tusk's party, on the other hand, wants the troops to come home, although some party officials have said that could take as long as until the end of 2008.

Tusk's party also calls for additional security guarantees for Poland such as the U.S. Patriot short-range anti-missile and anti-aircraft system, and suggests Kaczynski has failed to win rewards such as visa-free travel for Poles to the United States.

Both Kaczynski and Tusk began their political careers as anti-communist dissidents in the Solidarity movement, which paved the way for the fall of communism in 1989. Today, however, they part ways on how to deal with the ex-communists who were once their enemies.

Kaczynski favors a belated purge of ex-communists and their secret collaborators from public life -- a reckoning purposely avoided in the peaceful transition of power. He maintains that the ex-communists continue to wield undue influence. But a court overturned his legislation to have up to 700,000 people, including journalists and teachers, screened for collaboration.

Tusk's party opposes that kind of reckoning, saying that Poland should not divert its attention from the new economic opportunities presented since the country joined the EU in 2004.

(CNN) -- The United States is urging Turkey to show restraint after Kurdish rebels attacked its forces on Sunday, killing at least 17 Turkish soldiers and wounding 16 others near Turkey's border with Iraq and Iran, according to Turkey's defense minister.

The initial response by Turkish forces was to hit back by killing 32 rebels from the Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, in southern Turkey, according to a statement on an official government Web site.

Sunday's deadly attack on Turkish soldiers prompted outrage among citizens in Istanbul, Turkey, who took to the streets in protest. Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul said that, in addition to the 17 killed, 10 Turkish soldiers were missing after the ambush in southern Turkey. He denied reports they had been abducted by PKK rebels.

Shortly after the attack, a wedding convoy tripped a landmine in Daglica, Turkey, near the ambush site, a Turkish government source said. The attack wounded 12 people and is believed to have been the work of PKK rebels, the source said.

After an emergency meeting Sunday of Turkey's military and political leaders President Abdullah Gul issued a statement saying: "We will continue on our path of determination in fighting the terrorist organization. We respect Iraq's national borders. But [we] will not tolerate those who help and harbor terrorists."

There are fears that the escalation in fighting could spill into northern Iraq's Kurdish region, where Turkey insists the PKK leadership is based.

But Iraq denies that, saying PKK leaders are hiding out in rugged mountain areas along the Turkish border that are not controlled by Iraq.

Cross-border shelling between Turkish forces and PKK rebels in northern Iraq continued Sunday. Iraqi leaders fear Turkish ground forces could make a major push into northern Iraq after Turkey's parliament approved such an incursion in an overwhelming vote last week.

Gonul on Sunday assured U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates that Ankara would not to carry out an imminent ground incursion, but he did not abandon the possibility of sending Turkish troops into northern Iraq, which Gonul called "a safe haven" for PKK rebels.

Gonul and Gates met in Kiev, Ukraine. Gates said: "A major cross-border operation would be contrary to Turkey's interests as well as to our own and that of Iraq."

Iraq's President Jalal Talabani, who is Kurdish, addressed the rising tensions with Turkey during a meeting with Kurdish regional leader Massoud Barzani in Irbil, the capital of Iraq's Kurdistan region.

Talabani reiterated Iraq's demand that PKK rebels lay down their arms, and restated calls for a diplomatic solution.

He also said Sunday that Iraqi forces are unable to find the rebel leaders because of the difficult landscape. "The Turkish military, with its mightiness, could not annihilate them or arrest them, so how could we arrest them and hand them to Turkey?" Talabani said at a news conference following his meeting with Barzani.

Turkey's parliament last week passed a measure that enables its military to launch an incursion into northern Iraq and chase down Kurdish rebels.

Although Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the vote in his parliament last week wouldn't necessarily trigger immediate military action against the PKK, the United States and Iraqi officials have been in high diplomatic gear for days in efforts to keep Turkey from carrying out the proposed cross-border assaults against the rebels.

The United States fears a large-scale military operation by Turkey in northern Iraq would undermine the stability of the U.S.-backed government in Baghdad and jeopardize supply lines that support U.S. troops in Iraq.

Tariq al-Hashimi, one of Iraq's two vice presidents and a top Sunni Arab leader, met with Turkish leaders last week about the tensions along the Iraq-Turkish border, and said the talks "ended in good results," his office said in a statement.

Iraq's Kurdish region -- which consists of Duhuk, Irbil and Sulaimaniya provinces -- has had a close economic relationship with Turkey, and the passage of the Turkish measure has stoked anger there.

When asked how Iraq's government would respond to the possibility of Turkish ground forces in northern Iraq, Barzani urged dialogue with Turkey but said Iraqi forces would act "in self-defense."

"We will not be a part of any such conflict," Barzani said. "But if we are targeted directly we will defend ourselves

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Religious and cultural conservatives, a political force skeptical of the leading Republican presidential candidates, are caught in a tug of war between pragmatism and ideology.

"My head and my heart are fighting with each other," said Phil Burress, an Ohioan who has lobbied hard for federal and state bans on gay marriage.

The vexing choices facing these voters:

• Rudy Giuliani, a thrice-married New Yorker who differs with them on abortion, gays and guns but who polls show offers a strong chance to beat a Democrat next fall.

• Mitt Romney, a Mormon from Massachusetts who didn't entirely share their views in the past but who insists he now does.

• Fred Thompson, a Tennessean who hasn't been a vocal champion of their core issues but who had a right-leaning Senate voting record.

• John McCain, an Arizona senator who has a clear socially conservative resume but who dismissed their leaders "agents of intolerance" in 2000.

• Mike Huckabee, a Southern Baptist minister and true believer who has an extraordinary hill to climb for the nomination.

For now, social-issue conservatives are scattered across the field of candidates.

It's a splintering that is, perhaps, more severe than in previous presidential elections and that raises questions about the power of a long-influential part of the GOP base. The restiveness has prompted talk of a possible third-party bid, a certain political death knell for the GOP nominee.

Reflecting the quandary these voters face, Focus on the Family's James Dobson has rejected Giuliani and has panned both McCain and Thompson. Romney is the only leading candidate Dobson hasn't denounced -- but he hasn't publicly backed Romney either.

"There's no one Republican presidential candidate that inspires them, and the movement leaders can find fault in one way or another with all the candidates," said John Green, a senior fellow at the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life. "It's hard to tell if it means that their influence is waning. But they're likely to have more influence if they stay united. The longer they stay behind several candidates, the less influence they'll have."

While the ultimate impact of these religious and cultural conservatives on the GOP nomination race is anyone's guess, there's no question that they are a force in numbers.

Eyeball / Tribute to Tubag Bohol (to Mike)
October 22, 2007, 12:14:14 PM
As I promised to you Mike, here it is. I do apologize for the length of time it took me, as I was trying to find the right pictures for the set and setting. I humbly apologize, brod Mike, for not having this done in time, as I was prevented from putting all my time and effort due to classes and research--so i worked on this for a bit for two weeks. I hope that it is alright for you. Just say the word, Mike, and I will work on something else for you. I hope you like it, brod.
_________________________________________________________________________________

This is a tribute to the site, TubagBohol, and to the maker, Mike Ligalig, for connecting all of us together as a community, which has brought families together, reconnected long lost friends and has led to the development of new friends and friendships. Though as a community and a people, we are dispersed throughout the globe, either in Europe, in the United States, in Japan, China, Australia, the Philippines etc., we as a people have proved the fact that blood is definitely thicker than water. No matter what the distance and how long the time we have been away from our precious Bohol Island, we still long for our homeland. Always cherish family, friends, and our Bohol Island.

And most of all, continue your contribution to this website, which Mike Ligalig, our great founder, has given to us. Let us thank him, Mr. Mike Ligalig, for all the things that he has done for us.

Here is the video of Tubag Bohol and I hope everyone enjoys it!

Christmas 1983 was the happiest time I ever had where the Family were still complete. Had celebrated with my beloved Father for the last time he was on earth.  Feb. 1991 he  suddenly passed away and that was the second time seeing him in coffin after 12 years of absence. I came home quite late.  And the last Christmas I spent there was in the year 1993, and this year  I will be there to share with the rest of my Family the joyous of this season....."life goes on".....and we will be there on his grave on this Christmas Day.

My dear pareng Bambi,

I wanted you to know that I was really touched, in my heart, after reading your personal story, and i couldn't help but cry. Life, my dear bambi, is very precious and given the ability to share it with family--for the good--despite the trials and tribulations that God gives us in our life, is what really what counts. Family, is the most important thing in our lives, because, my dear, friends come and go, so does health and physical beauty. But family, with the blessings of the good Lord who provides for us always, is always there for you. They are our rock that keeps us aground. There for us through thick or thin. And I know that you have a beautiful family...your own mama, who reminds me so much of my own dear Lola Nating, is someone who loves you and adores you. And I am sure that your Papa is looking down from heaven and smiling at his daughter. I hope that your christmas vacation to Bohol---to be with your family---is filled with love, kindness and hope. That the spirit of Christ and the spirit of Christmas, in all its meanings, is fulfilled for you. I just wanted you to know that. We are here for you. I know that you can always count on me, your pare, to be here for you if you ever need someone to talk to. :)

A big big big hug and kisses from your pare,

Hi Bran Lorenz,

On the TB EB, we missed you then, it would have been different with you around, puro mi nag-anteyuhos tulo except el mundo.  But then I considered it as a meeting of brains kay puro man intellectuals (modesty aside ha). Imagine I was with the Provincial Attorney (Delaguna), with an upcoming lawyer fron HNU (Sigbin) and with a celebrated writer (ElMundo). Misamot unta kon niabot si Melrose, Mari and Fiel Angeli ( the latter was somewhere around in ICM, Fiel is also a writer and a critic ).
How about you? seems we have less interaction this time?

I would have loved to be part of that gathering, Mr. Ayag. Perhaps, in the not too distant future, I would have the honor in meeting and speaking with you face to face, as with other respectable members of Tubag Bohol. I'm glad that everything went according to plan in your endeavor in the Philippines and wish you a progressive and successful week. Looking forward to reading more of your insightful and intellectual, as always, posts.

Occurrences like this are one of the reasons why President Ferdinand Marcos hammered the south in an attrition war, and in the process, permanently eradicated and silenced the MILF and the MNLF as a real threat. Yea thousands of muslims and christians were killed in the process, but the most important thing was maintained. The unity and complete integration of the Republic of the Philippine. Marcos, because of his political and military brilliance, realized the necessity to wage war in the south--and placed great trust in the military to do its job. And it succeeded in reducing the threat of not only the MILF, the MNLF , but the NPA terrorists as well. Hopefully the Macapagal-Arroyo administration begins to adopt similar measures in handling this situation that another attack on our capital city is averted.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines needs to go to suspected areas and release the hammer. No holds bars, as the saying goes, and completely exterminate the source. I'm sure the yankees will give the green light to help as well.

One thing we must learn from this: as the Philippine economy surges and the way of living is rising, there are those who wish to see destruction and the failure of our country, our precious and eternal Philippine Fatherland. A land of brave heroes, patriots, intellectuals, and hard workers. It is absolutely sickening to see that this is happening, that these low lives called islamofascist terrorists would wish harm on innocent peoples. People who have no relation nor credance to their religion. The islam that I know is a religion of peace, a religion of love and tolerance, and worships the TRUE GOD. The SAME GOD in Christianity and the SAME GOD in Judaism. These terrorist twist the truth of Islam, the teachings of the Holy Q'uran, and that in itself is absolute blasphemy and will earn them immediate passage to damnation, not salvation. Woe unto those who stray from the straight path, and into the path of lies and bliss.

As for the situation, the United States and the Philippines are planning to begin another wave of military exercises this year, and I totally support a Filipino-American joint counterattack in the south. There are already 2,000 Americans in Basilan right now and support aircraft. The Philippine Army needs to go there and rain down hell.

World Daily News / EU leaders approve new treaty
October 20, 2007, 04:13:39 PM
(CNN) -- A new treaty that will reshape the European Union's institutions and, it is hoped, streamline decision-making is a "European victory", according to the current president of the EU.

Portuguese Prime Minister Josi Socrates, who hosted the EU summit in Lisbon, Portugal, said the agreement on the treaty between the 27 member states early Friday marked a new era for Europe.

"With this new treaty, Europe has overcome an impasse that lasted for several years," Socrates told reporters.

The treaty was approved on the first day of a two-day summit. It is the would-be successor to a proposed EU constitution scrapped in 2005 after it was rejected by voters in France and the Netherlands.

European leaders reached an agreement on the treaty - which is likely to be known as the Lisbon Treaty - at around 1 a.m. after last-minute wrangling by Italy and Poland.

A number of concessions were made to secure their support, with Italy gaining an extra seat in the future European parliament and Poland securing a guarantee that small groups of countries could delay EU decisions that they objected to.

European leaders will now return home to convince their electorates to back the treaty, which still needs to be approved in national parliaments. Due to the requirements of its constitution, Ireland is the only country planning to hold a vote on the treaty -- expected early next year.

The president of the European Commission Josi Manuel Barroso said that after resolving its institutional crisis, the EU must concentrate on playing a bigger role in world affairs.

Barroso, who joined the Socrates for the press conference on Friday, said: "We have to be open to the world. We must protect ourselves without being protectionist. We should not close our doors, rather we should encourage others to open theirs."

He said the EU must continue to show leadership on climate change.

MANILA, Philippines (AP) -- A powerful explosion ripped through three floors of a shopping mall in the heart of Manila's financial district Friday, killing eight people, injuring scores and sending police and troops on the highest state of alert.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said "circumstances indicate it is highly probable that it was caused by an explosive device." The same mall was targeted by a bombing in 2000.

She said police and the military went on the highest alert and deployed an additional 2,000 personnel to secure public areas "to prevent a similar occurrence."

The afternoon explosion at the glitzy Glorietta 2 mall toppled roofs, destroyed walls, and sent debris crashing onto cars outside.

At least eight people were killed and more than 70 were injured, said metropolitan Manila police chief Geary Barias.

Police sealed off the shopping complex and searched debris for clues of explosives.

National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales said authorities were looking into a possible terrorist attack, but "there is no conclusive evidence yet."

Mario Em, a taxi driver, said he had just dropped two women off at the mall when the blast hurled the passengers against his vehicle, killing them instantly.

He said he pulled one of the victims, who was pregnant, from underneath his car.

Officials said the shock waves from the blast, which appeared to have originated from a basement entry for delivery vehicles, shot through three floors of the mall as well as sideways.

Mae Ann Sison said her sister, Angelica Cortez, was on an escalator going down from the second floor when the blast tossed her in the air.

"She landed on the escalator and her right foot got caught in the escalator chain and she was hit by glass shards from shops around her," Sison said, adding a chunk of concrete hit her sister's head.

Al-Qaida-linked militants, who have waged a yearslong bloody bombing campaign in the southern Philippines, have targeted Manila before.

Makati city Councilor Jejomar Binay Jr. said a bombing at the same mall in May 2000 that wounded 13 people was the work of Muslim extremists. Five months later, five nearly simultaneous bombs around Manila blamed on the al-Qaida-linked Abu Sayyaf and the Jemaah Islamiyah network killed 20 people and wounded about 100 others.

In 2004, Abu Sayyaf militants blew up a passenger ferry in Manila Bay, killing 116 people in the country's worst terrorist attack. The following year, four people were killed and dozens wounded when a bomb exploded on a Makati bus and two southern cities.

Several months ago, authorities were alerted to an alleged terror plot to plant bombs in Manila's business districts of Makati and Ortigas, said a government counterterrorism official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

People inside the mall scampered toward the exits when the blast shook the mall.

"One man who was in front of me was already dead. There was a child, but we don't know where the child is now," said Dennis Inigo, who was shopping at the time.

"The man's wife was with me a while ago, and her leg was shattered. Many people were falling on top of each other," he said. "It was loud, and then it became dusty."

World Daily News / Bhutto: Attack won't stop campaign
October 20, 2007, 04:10:25 PM
KARACHI, Pakistan (CNN) -- Former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has called the deadly terror strike on her convoy "an attack on democracy" and vowed it would not deter her political campaign or her fight for human rights.

She returned to Pakistan on Thursday after a self-imposed, eight-year exile.

"What does the attack last night signify? The attack was more an attack on the unity and integrity of the country than on any individual or any one political party," Bhutto said at a news conference on Friday, a day after the terror attack that killed 136 people.

"It was an attack on Pakistan itself. It was an attack on their political rights, on the political process and on democracy itself. The attack last night was a message sent by the enemies of democracy to all the political parties of the country.

"It was intended to intimidate and blackmail all the political forces and elements working for democracy and human rights in the country. It was a warning not only to me and the PPP (People's Political Party) but to all political parties -- indeed, to the entire civil society."

After the blast, police retrieved the head of a possible suspect, which was being analyzed at a forensics lab.

Police said they were due to release a sketch soon and are offering about $83,000 (5 million rupees) for information leading to possible arrests.

Bhutto was traveling from the airport after returning to Pakistan when the bomber struck her convoy late Thursday. She and others in her group were unhurt.

A defiant Bhutto on Friday said she did not blame the government for the attack, but complained of poor security preparations. The former prime minister blamed extremists who oppose her support for Pakistan's Western allies.

No one has claimed responsibility, and police have named no possible suspects or groups.

However, U.S. State Department officials, quoting the Pakistanis, told CNN Friday they believe there is a "strong al Qaeda connection" to the attacks. The officials said U.S. agents are helping Pakistan in the investigation.

One senior department official said the attack "bears the hallmarks" of an al Qaeda attack, and noted the group has threatened Bhutto before.

The Pakistanis have told U.S. officials that they were aware of three or four al Qaeda-related cells seeking to undertake an attack on Bhutto's return. The attack, officials said, is frightening because it shows how much freedom al Qaeda has to move around in Pakistan.

Bhutto said she thought she heard shots fired after the explosions, but police haven't confirmed that. She said she initially thought the blasts were fireworks.

Authorities believe the suicide bomber was on foot and threw a grenade to attract attention before setting off the second, major blast, Karachi's police chief, Azhar Farooqi, told CNN on Thursday.  Pakistan's dangerous politics »

The bomber is believed to have acted alone. Police do not think a car bomb was involved, although nearby cars were burned, he said.

Bhutto said streetlights on the route weren't working, which hindered security guards. Authorities have promised to look into that claim.

"The Pakistan People's Party strongly condemns the attack on a peaceful procession last night," she said in a news conference Friday, referring to the political party she represents.

"Our calm prayers and sympathies are to those who laid down their lives or were wounded and to their families. They made the ultimate sacrifice for the cause of democracy."

Bhutto said she intends to continue her political campaign for prime minister, despite the potential dangers.

Bhutto said police had offered to let her use a helicopter for her trip from the airport, warning her of the dangers of riding in the streets, but she told them she wanted to be near the people. She said she has no regrets.

Her return home was made possible by Pakistan's embattled president, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, who earlier this month agreed to drop outstanding corruption charges against her and a number of other politicians as part of his own bid to stay in power.

Bhutto said Friday she is continuing to negotiate with Musharraf to promote democracy in a possible power-sharing deal. There is a parliamentary election in January in which Bhutto hopes to win a third term as prime minister.

In an interview Wednesday in Dubai with CNN correspondent Syed Mohsin Naqvi, Bhutto said she planned to write Musharraf a letter informing him that there were people who wanted to kill her. She revealed no names.

"I am aware of the threats for my security, and this has been discussed with General Pervez Musharraf. I am also writing him a letter and I am mentioning the hands, the hidden hands who will be responsible if any untoward action happens.

"Because I believe that there are certain people who have gained a lot through dictatorship. They have presided over the rise of extremism, they have created safe havens in the tribal areas of Pakistan for the Taliban and other militants, and they fear my return.

"And I am concerned that these individuals who occupy high positions in the administration will use their administrative positions to create an incident."

"I feel it is best if these people do not want to be held responsible that they should step aside for the next three months to assure that there is no controversy regarding their rule," she said she told the leader.

Bhutto said she has received messages of support and sympathy from around the world, which she appreciates.

"I see the attack not as an attack on an individual. The attack was not on me. The attack was on what I represent. It was an attack on democracy, and it was an attack on the very unity and integrity of Pakistan," Bhutto said Friday.

"This was dastardly and cowardly attack," she said. "It is against our religion to kill innocent people."

Bhutto, who apparently had moved from the roof of the truck to the inside just moments before the blasts, told reporters, "There was blood and gore all over our clothes ... Streets were littered with bodies and glass."

"A moment that was the people's triumph ended in tragedy," she added.

Bhutto thanked those who met her at the airport earlier Thursday, and stuck with the motorcade. She described them as people who "came and voted with their feet to show the world that this great land of ours is not a land of terrorists, it is not a land of extremists."

Instability in Pakistan could affect other regional nuclear powers, including China and India "Apart from the hands involved in planting/detonating explosives close to Ms. Benazir Bhutto's vehicle, the investigators must expose the elements whose traditional hostility to democracy is known, and who could not bear even a rare sight of democratic festivity," said Iqbal Haider, secretary-general of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan.

"The present regime's incapacity to deal with terrorism needs no further proof, and while there is no need to avoid elections, the present (situation) demands the greatest possible unity among the people and immediate formation of a national government capable of fighting terrorism without depriving the people of democratic governance and the enjoyment of human rights."

CNN correspondent Dan Rivers said Bhutto in her speech Friday listed three other groups, in addition to the Taliban in Pakistan, that she believed posed the most danger to her and her cause: al Qaeda, the Taliban in Afghanistan and a suicide team from Karachi that she did not describe.

A video released in September by al Qaeda declared war on the "apostate" Pakistani army, and officials said that was aimed at intimidating moderates and driving a wedge between Musharraf and Bhutto on one side, and extremists who support al Qaeda on the other.

The United States hopes the attack will cause Bhutto and Musharraf, who has been the target of several assassination attempts, to join forces against a common enemy.

According to one official, "We hope Musharraf will say to Bhutto, 'They tried to kill me, too. Welcome to the club, and let's work together to get them

Friday. Friday. Friday!!

Classes are over, and the weekend is nigh. Im pretty excited because we have our masquerade ball tonight, and im dressing up as a 19th century count (with cape and mask) hahaha. I'll have to do some research this weekend, but i cant wait to just unwind with my friends. Maybe have cognac and lite up a cigar later tonight. The weather isnt bad over here, some sprinkles, but nothing serious.

Can't complain.

Hey guys!

Today was a productive day for me, woke up at 9am and got ready for archival research for senior comp project; drove 30 miles south to Mercer County--to look for the Mercer County Historical Society. Got there around 1:30 PM after getting lost in Stoneboro and Sandy Lake township. So now yours truly is a member of the Mercer County Historical Society---and today begins my formal research. The archives wasn't bad at all; the building had documents that stemmed back to the founding of the county seat back in 1800; and ill have to dig for data. Im lucky i started this now, since the research project is due on April 2008. That gives me roughly 5 months to finish this project. We went coring in the lake yesterday and so far we have 2 twenty foot cores; and will begin analyzing every centimeter of those cores with my research colleagues this week. The lab work should take roughly around 2-3 weeks; and graphing and testing should take another additional 3-4 weeks. Metals analysis will take another week or so. Today was a great day. I loved driving down to the lake and the archives---it was windy and sunny out.

Hope everyone's day goes as planned.

@ Ate Hazel, how was your walk? Watsup to 'te belle and to my 'te ethylene??

Big hug from me,,

Poems and Poets / My Best Friend

By: Erika D.

You are mine, my best friend,
The one I can confide in, until the end.
The one who has seen every tear,
Whose hands boldly hold all of my fears.

You are mine, my other half that makes me complete,
Who never lets me feel like I am going through defeat.
You're the one who has always been there,
To show me how much that you truely care.

You are mine, my happiness in me,
Who's opened my eyes and really made me see.
Your compassion and love has shone through the clouds,
Leaving me with no more fears or doubts.

You are mine, an angel for me,
Whose smile is sent to make me happy.
The one who always has faith in your heart,
To make sure that I don't fall apart.

You are mine, without any question,
Giving me lots of hugs and affection.
You are mine, my best friend,
Whom I will always love until the very end!
