Detract not one another, my brethren. He that detracteth his brother, or he that judgeth his brother, detracteth the law and judgeth the law. But if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

Alot of progress has ben ascertained these past weeks; I successfully processed the sediment strata into the CNS (Carbon:Nitrogen: Sulfur) machine---so far the results have correlated the primary test theory. As we increase in depth variable, there is an observable increase in Sulfur pecentage in the soil strata, which can probably be explained due to the metallic effluents given of by the coal industry around the Limnological site in the late 19th century--as well as considering the fact that the research site was the center of a railroad industry during the late 19th century: American Industrial Revolution.
The data results concerning the Carbon and Nitrogen levels have been assimilatory as well, as we go in depth to the core strata, there is a sharp decrease in C:N levels primarily in the 18-45 cm range; above that--and below that--shows a revertion  of C:N normalcy. The core level reaches the 69 cm range, and around that range strata--there is an observable increase in CN levels--indicating pre-settlement dates. The reasons for such a decrease in C:N levels in the 18-45 cm ranges is due to the massive agricultural revolution that took place around the limnological site--and one effect of agriculture has is a reductive effect on C:N levels.

Data results for the CNS analysis have proved positive, however, my data results are being sent to the Dpt. of Limnology for re-evaluation before I actually utilize it as a supportive reference.

Right now tho--I'm currently working on the acid digestion of the sediment strata---which is a prepatory step before I can begin the metals analysis. The first batch of strata have been analyzed, the 2nd batch are currently being analyzed as we speak. I have 3 additional batches to complete before I can begin metals analysis.

I plan to finish the 3rd batch (usually takes 5-6 hours to complete a batch) tomorrow.
The 4th batch will be assessed on Wednesday and the last batch will be assessed on Thursday.

There is so much to do till then.  :-X

Thank you for that post, a very interesting one if I may add.

Man is finite. We can never truly understand and comprehend the infinite.
Our understanding of things is but a drop in the bucket as compared to HE who created all things--and willed it to be so.
Even the greatest of men, Emperors and Kings all succumb to the pangs of death. Even the greatest minds in our epochs loose their ability to think--their ability to memorize. What was given--will eventually be taken away. Such is the way of things, from ashes we once came--so shall we return to ash.

LISBON, Portugal - Debates over Zimbabwe and Darfur caused friction Saturday at a summit of European and African leaders attempting to build a new alliance on economic and environmental issues.

The two-day summit in Portugal's capital drew leaders of the 53-member African Union and 27-nation European Union for their first such meeting in seven years.

It was intended to culminate in new agreements Sunday on more trade, climate protections, eased migration and better African transportation and energy production.

"We can't waste any more time," said Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates, whose country holds the EU's rotating presidency. The talks, he said, are "a summit of equals" among the 80 nations represented at the talks, some of them former colonial powers in Africa.

But other concerns kept popping up.

"We cannot turn a blind eye when human rights are being trampled," said German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who described the EU as "united" in condemning Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe's record in power. "The situation in Zimbabwe taints the image of the new Africa."

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown stayed away in protest of Mugabe, who has been accused by EU countries of economic mismanagement, failure to curb corruption and contempt for democracy.

Mugabe, granted a temporary visa, attended the Lisbon summit but made no comment to the media.

South African President Thabo Mbeki, a mediator between Mugabe's party and its main opposition, had threatened to skip the Lisbon talks if Mugabe was not invited. He indicated European meddling in African leaders' human rights efforts was unwelcome, because their nations were taking steps on their own to protect people's rights.

"We are doing this of our own accord," he said, "having drawn the necessary lessons from our own experience."

Plans for a summit four years ago fell through when some African nations balked at the EU's refusal to invite Mugabe. His government is subject to EU sanctions, including a travel ban, over its human rights record.

Darfur was another point of contention. Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir has so far refused to allow non-Africans into a 26,000-strong U.N.-A.U. peacekeeping force planned for Darfur.

EU nations, meanwhile, have failed to come up with the needed military hardware to support the operation.

EU diplomats had "a very frank meeting" with Bashir to express their concerns, Portuguese Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Joao Gomes Cravinho said. Bashir told them there was progress in negotiations with the U.N. on the makeup of the force and he would provide details in the coming days, according to Gomes Cravinho.

Despite the tensions, the EU is eager to lock Africa, a continent that is set to become one of the world's big new markets, into a closer trading relationship. China has invested heavily in Africa and is challenging Europe's place as the continent's preferred partner.

Africa, for its part, wants more European investment to raise the continent's standard of living. About two of every people in sub-Saharan Africa lives on less than $1 a day despite some recent economic growth.

Ghanian President John Kufuor, who chairs the AU, said leaders should set aside past history, which included the "abominable" slave trade, European colonization and apartheid.

New accords on trading and other areas will "correct this historic injustice and inhumanity," he said. "For almost 500 years the relationship between our two continents had not been a happy one."

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) - Malaysian police Sunday arrested four people at a protest staged by lawyers, who gathered despite a rally being called off due to controversy over two demonstrations last month.

The Bar Council last week cancelled plans to hold a march to mark International Human Rights Day in light of the crackdown on street rallies that were broken up with tear gas and water cannon.

But 40 lawyers and supporters defied the decision and walked through Kuala Lumpur, holding a banner reading: "Lawyers for freedom of assembly together with the people."

They were outnumbered by more than 300 police officers who used loudhailers to order them to disperse, and then arrested three prominent lawyers and another demonstrator.

"Authorities seem to be upset by any visible signs of protest and I think this is a problem with the country," said lawyer Sivarasa Rasiah, who is also a leader of the Keadilan opposition party.

"They don't seem to be able to deal with peaceful dissent," he told AFP before he was arrested.

Organiser Latheefa Koya, who was also arrested, said that Malaysians needed to continue to exercise their constitutional right to public assembly.

Malaysia's government has been shaken by recent street rallies, including one in early November when 30,000 demonstrators thronged the capital calling for electoral reforms.

Later in the month, at least 8,000 ethnic Indians held an anti-discrimination rally that saw dozens arrested.

Those detained on Sunday were taken to Kuala Lumpur police headquarters.

MANILA (AFP) - Manila authorities have banned Christmas carol singers from the streets for safety reasons and warned Sunday they would round up any who flouted the new rule.

Bayani Fernando, who chairs the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, which overseas traffic and road safety, said the ban would take effect Monday and was due to concerns about road traffic.

"The plan, controversial as it might be, is not done out of whim but rather for the safety of the children and the motorists," he said.

Singers, including children from surrounding slums, have been converging on major Manila street intersections, knocking on vehicle windows for cash while carolling.

Last year a child was killed when he was run over by a speeding truck.

Fernando said groups of carol singers would still be able to go from house to house in suburban areas where they would not affect road traffic.

"What we are against are those who dart across thoroughfares knocking on vehicle windows to beg for alms since this is a surefire way to get maimed or killed," he said on radio in response to criticism.

He urged people "not to give alms" to street children and singers, saying doing so encourage them to stay on the streets where they were in danger. "Let us just give to charitable institutions which can help more."

Fernando said those rounded up would be handed over to the social welfare department.

The Philippines is Asia's bastion of Roman Catholicism, with more than 80 percent of its 87 million belonging to that faith.

It also celebrates arguably the world's longest Christmas season, starting officially on December 16 with dawn masses.

World Daily News / Iran Accuses the US in Espionage
December 09, 2007, 03:27:23 PM
Iran has sent a formal protest note to Washington for allegedly spying on its nuclear activities, Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Saturday in the wake of the latest U.S. intelligence report on the country's weapons program.

The note was handed over to the Swiss Embassy in Tehran, which looks after U.S. interests in Iran in the absence of diplomatic relations between Tehran and Washington, the state IRNA news agency said.

"The day the report was issued, the Foreign Ministry submitted a formal note of protest to the Swiss Embassy and demanded an explanation over espionage activities," Mottaki was quoted as saying.

The U.S. National Intelligence Estimate released on Monday concluded Tehran suspended its nuclear weapons program four years ago and has shown no sign of resuming it. That was in stark contrast to a 2005 estimate that said Tehran was continuing its weapons development.

Iran's president hailed the new finding as a "declaration of victory" for his country.

Iran says its nuclear program is aimed at generating electricity. Tehran has rebuffed U.S. demands that it cease uranium enrichment, a process that can be used to make fuel for both energy or nuclear weapons. Tehran says it has a right to enrich uranium under the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.

Accordingly, Fiestas are like capital poured into investment. The have to be celebrated grandly to ensure good life ahead. If one wishes for more harvest from feilds or sea, or more luck in the business or emplopyment, physical healing, more rain then one ought to dole out quality meals in a fiesta celebration. What will happen if we don't celebrate Fiestas?

The Dia de Fiesta system was actually part of the religious pillar of Pax Hispanica, one modality that the Spanish Empire and the Roman Catholic Episcopacy, under the auspices of the Spanish Royal Crown and the religious friars, utilized to christianize the so called 'heathen' natives. Prior to the advent of Spanish colonization, the majority of Filipinos lived in rural villages (some ranging from 2 to 100 families), but after the advent of Spanish colonization, the establishment of the barangay, the barrio, the poblacion, the municipal and the cuidad helped to organize the people and allow the soft and easy flow of  information, faster trade and the manifestation of civility, in the eyes of the European, was reached in prudent potentiality.

Even after the conquest of the Philippines and the erection of religious churches, the majority of the Filipinos still lived at some distance from the parish church.

This is where we see the Fiesta being implemented to augment the evangelization of the Philippines. The fiesta system and the founding of sodalities, on the other hand, reached out to embrace the whole scattered population of the parish. Although the majority of Filipinos preferred to live near their rice fields, they could be lured periodically into the cabecera village. The enticement was the fiesta. There were three fiestas of consequence to the Filipinos, namely Holy Week, Corpus Christi, and the feast in honor of the patron saint of locality. The parishioners flocked to the cabecera villages for these occasions. Not only did the fiestas provide a splendid opportunity to indoctrinate the Filipinos by the performance of religious rituals, but they also afforded the participants a welcome holiday from the drudgery of toil. The religious processions, dances, music and theatrical presentations of the fiestas gave the Filipino a needed outlet for their natural gregariousness. Sacred and profane blended together.

You know tho 'te, one thing that I have to say about being strict in the work place--it is easy to make enemies that way. From personal experience, I have clashed heads with other student researchers because of my 'by the book' standards. Student researchers who do not follow regulation standards, ha, are jeopardizing the work and sweat perspired by many for the sake of their own selves. Mao nao--I am not hesitant to report this kind of activity to the head research--because our work and professionalism is a representation of our character. We must uphold our morals and our ethics, if we are to retain some kind of respect for ourselves---and receive respect in turn. I may clash heads with some fellow research assistants in work, but I would rather have that and do the right thing--as is expected of me as a scientist and as a student. Than be popular and completely inadequate and subpar in the work.

It is our rise from a fall that illustrates the meaning of a 'glorious awakening'.  8)

Nice sa imo boots Belle, nindot na pamatid ;D

Dong, dili ba na bug-at inig lakaw? Diha man gud koy boots nga dako sa una, bug-at magsaghuyod ko maglakaw ;D
Di man bug-at-on, pero firm man. Heavy duty jud ning boots--because im located in a snow belt. Every winter--it snows at least a good 2-3 feet of snow. The really good thing about L.L Bean snow boots are that they're effective in not only heavy snowed-in roads, but make it possible to have some kind of traction even on ice.

Poems and Poets / Snow
December 07, 2007, 02:09:21 PM
gently falling, floating down.
over me and you
standing here standing there
the snow is falling.
white flakes come down
from heaven above
coming down like angels
the snow is falling.
all the fun times
we've had outside, buliding forts
having snow-ball fights,
while the snow is falling.
softly it comes down like

a white moist blanket,
gently whispering
' go inside or get a cold'
While the snow is falling.

There is nothing wrong with that, 'te. The way I see things--we all function as a group, diba? Everyone has a particular role/job that benefits the entire group/company/staff/class etc.

Everyone counts. Everyone is a significant team member. The leader is merely another member, who just helps keep things smooth and on the pace.

There is no I in Team. Mao na ahong motto. :)

My views are rather mixed. I think that everyone has the right to marry whoever they want to, if there is an attraction--then by all means. To each his or her own. Diba?

Why spend time worrying about others. Worry about yourself first.

I guess I'm like Ate Ging. Very strict jud ko when it comes to work and running lab protocol with my students. In order to be a good leader, you need to separate the work place from personal life. You make gains faster that way :)

How about this..

Lo..I walk the steps to the mount of Reiss Hall.

Trudge towards the old Rustic Bridge

Behold, through the snowy grape vine, a glimpse of Allegheny...o fair and radiant Beatissima..

Sit a while.

hehe. its beautiful isn't it?
That red building is Bentley Hall, the oldest building in Allegheny College. It is rather old, it was constructed the same year Allegheny College was founded, in 1815. The former U.S President William McKinley attended our college, as did Gen. Lafayette, one of the contributary members of the American Revolution, visited our college during its infancy.

There is something very beautiful about old buildings that gets me deep inside. :)

I can only imagine the kinds of memories and nostalgia of past students that came before me---

Here is a more picturesque view of Bentley Hall.

The following research is the culmination of my semester's independent study with Professor Guo Wu in the tracing of the development of Philippine Nationalism prior to the advent of the Philippine Revolution in the 19th century. I would like to truly dedicate this research paper to my father who so influenced my love of history, and secondly would dedicate it to the life and works of Dr. Jose P Rizal, who's writings in La Solidaridad and whose literary masterpieces such as El Filibusterismo and Noli Me Tangere have infused in me the nature of what true and pure Philippine nationalism was prior to the advent of the demoralization of the Philippine-American War, prior to the subsequent 'Neo-nationalism' of the mid 20th century. The moral and evolutionary fiber of the Filipino is indeed pure, whose mastery in mastering Hispanization was beyond the expectations of the Spanish delegation and even unto the Royal Cortes in Madrid. The unsurmountable and indomitable spirit of human equality, confraternity, liberty and national consciousness is truly a majestic phenomenon. From a feudal barbaric state---to the present---the pinnacle of Hispano-Romano-Greco culture infused into the psyche of an Asiatic state. Philippine nationalism eternalizes the Philippine confraternity with pure Western thought. As the Spanish Empire was part of the Roman Empire--and declared unto the world itself the heir-apparent of Roman-Greco cultural light, so too is the Philippines eternally linked to that confraternity. As a former colony, as one who completely manifested itself vis-a-vis the Pax Hispanica Epoch as a reproduction of Spain--the Philippines too shares the glory of Roman-Greco cultural light.
