Bible Study / Death and Dying- Your views?
January 05, 2008, 08:32:59 AM
This week I was able to talk to old friends and one of the subjects that was brought up in our long conversation was the topic of Death and Dying. I remained primarily silent in the conversation and listened profoundly to the words and points of views of my friends. I had one friend, a good friend at that, who talked and brought up scripture and the Bible, referencing the judgment of the dead by the Lord God, and many other friends who shared some kind of religious and spiritual nature had similar remarks, but then there were others who brought about the cold facts of death as a physical end. The total end. I feel really bad that I didn't talk or give my point of view during the conversation with my friends, and deep inside I do believe in my faith and that one will be awakened after death to be judged by the Lord our God before the Angels and Saints and rendered a fate coinciding with our actions here on Earth. However, during the conversation at the time, I could not help but agree with the scientific response. Naturally, as a human I cannot help but question yet fear the concept of death. I truly and absolutely fear death. To be silenced and alienated from my loved ones and from the feelings that life offers. The hair on my back just stands firm thinking about it. What about you guys? What are your thoughts and views on death and dying? Do you fear it? Do you accept it without recompense?

MY SAVIOR, MY GOD

VERSE 1

I am not skilled to understand

What God has willed, what God has planned

I only know at His right hand

Stands One who is my Savior

VERSE 2
I take Him at His word and deed
Christ died to save me this I read
And in my heart I find a need
For Him to be my Savior

PRE-CHORUS

That He would leave His place on high

And come for sinful man to die

You count it strange, so once did I

Before I knew my Savior

CHORUS

My Savior loves, my Savior lives

My Savior’s always there for me

My God He was, my God He is

My God He’s always gonna be

VERSE 3
Yes, living, dying; let me bring
My strength, my solace from this spring
That He who lives to be my King
Once died to be my Savior  PRECHORUS, CHORUS 2X

When you're having a bad day, a nasty day, and when you just want to let everything go.
Just listen to this song. Take a deep breath, shake it all off. And climb the ladder again.

Hakuna Matata

Hakuna Matata! What a wonderful phrase

Hakuna Matata! Ain't no passing craze

It means no worries for the rest of your days

It's our problem-free philosophy

Hakuna Matata!

Hakuna Matata?

Yeah. It's our motto!

What's a motto?

Nothing. What's a-motto with you?

Those two words will solve all your problems

That's right. Take Pumbaa here
Why, when he was a young warthog...

When I was a young wart hog

Very nice

Thanks

He found his aroma lacked a certain appeal
He could clear the savannah after every meal

I'm a sensitive soul though I seem thick-skinned
And it hurt that my friends never stood downwind
And oh, the shame      He was ashamed
Thought of changin' my name   What's in a name?
And I got downhearted      How did ya feel?
Everytime that I...

Hey! Pumbaa! Not in front of the kids!
Oh. Sorry

Hakuna Matata! What a wonderful phrase
Hakuna Matata! Ain't no passing craze

It means no worries for the rest of your days

It's our problem-free philosophy
Hakuna Matata!
Hakuna Matata! Hakuna matata!
Hakuna Matata! Hakuna matata!
Hakuna Matata! Hakuna matata!
Hakuna Matata! Hakuna--

It means no worries for the rest of your days

It's our problem-free philosophy
Hakuna Matata!
(Repeats)

I say "Hakuna"

I say "Matata"

Greetings my friend,

Do you have anymore information about your family members who went to Mexico?
You have to know that during the early 19th century, when Mexico had its independence war with Spain, the Millions of Pesetas that were accumulated during the Manila-Acapulco trade were formally ceased. The thousands of Mexicans-Spaniards that stayed in the Philippines for business's sake moved out of the islands and went back to either Mexico to rebuild the country after the war, or for many Spaniards, went back to Mother Spain to cash out their riches. Many Filipino mestizos and Filipino indios went with their Spanish and Mexican cohorts. Perhaps you can divulge in more history about the Conseco family, and I will do my best to research it for you.

Gracias!

Malaysia's health minister has resigned after being caught on videotape having sex with a female friend the country's national news agency said Wednesday.

A day earlier, Health Minister Chua Soi Lek acknowledged that he was the man in a widely-circulated DVD that showed a couple engaged in sex in a hotel room.

At the time, the 61-year-old also added that he would not resign from his post or his party, the Malaysian Chinese Association, which is part of the ruling National Front coalition.

But news agency Bernama said Wednesday that Chua had resigned from both the post and the party, and his departure was effective immediately.

Chua's wife, Wong Sek Hin, told the news agency that her husband had apologized to her and his three children.

"It is a difficult time for all of us but we have accepted his regret and apology," she told Bernama.

In his admission at a press conference in Malaysia on Tuesday, Chua said the woman was a "personal friend" but did not elaborate.

"I would like to emphasize that I did not make the tape myself. Who has done this and why it was done is obvious. Who made this tape is not important any more," he told The Associated Press.

World Daily News / Sri Lanka govt scraps cease-fire
January 05, 2008, 03:20:04 AM
The Sri Lankan government has officially withdrawn from an internationally brokered peace agreement with Tamil rebels -- a cease-fire that had existed in name only since the two sides resumed fighting two years ago.

The government said it would reconsider peace talks with the rebels when the group laid down its arms, Sri Lanka's media minister said at a news conference Thursday.

"We have not shut the doors for negotiations," Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa told reporters.

Analysts say the government's decision to pull out of the truce will intensify fighting between the two sides, which have engaged in a brutal civil war since 1983.

The rebels, formally called the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, want an independent homeland for the Tamil minority in the north and east of the island-nation, located south of India. They cite decades of discrimination by the majority Sinhalese.

About 65,000 people died before the two sides reached a truce in 2002, brokered by Norway. But in recent years, they have virtually ignored the agreement.

Even before the announcement, Sri Lanka's armed forces commanders declared on New Year's Eve that they would crush the rebels in 2008.

Yapa said Thursday the cease-fire was a "non-functioning agreement" that the rebels violated many times.

Most recently, the government accused the rebels of placing a bomb inside a roadside hotel Wednesday morning.

The blast hit a Sri Lankan army bus, killing at least four people, including two soldiers and wounding 28 others, military and hospital officials said.

The attack came a day after a Tamil opposition lawmaker was killed when a gunman opened fire on him as he was leaving a Hindu temple in northeastern Colombo. T. Maheswaran was a member of the opposition United National Party.

The cease-fire agreement requires that each side give two weeks' notice if either plans on withdrawing.

Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake and the country's foreign minister will meet with Norway's ambassador to convey the government's decision, Yapa said.

Norway expressed regret at the Sri Lankan government's announcement.

"This comes on top of the increasingly frequent and brutal acts of violence perpetrated by both parties, and I am deeply concerned that the violence and hostilities will now escalate even further," said Erik Solheim, Norway's minister of the environment and international development, in a statement posted on the country's Foreign Ministry Web site.

Two months before her death, former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto sent an e-mail to her U.S. adviser and longtime friend, saying that if she were killed, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf would bear some of the blame.

She cited his government's denial of her request for additional security measures after the October suicide bombing that targeted her upon returning to Pakistan from exile.

"Nothing will, God willing happen," she wrote to Mark Siegel, her U.S. spokesman, lobbyist and friend.

"Just wanted u to know if it does in addition to the names in my letter to Musharaf of Oct 16nth, I wld hold Musharaf responsible. I have been made to feel insecure by his minions and there is no way what is happening in terms of stopping me from taking private cars or using tinted windows or giving jammers or four police mobiles to cover all sides cld happen without him."

Bhutto was seeking to become prime minister for a third time when she was assassinated; her death comes exactly two weeks before Pakistan's January 8 parliamentary elections.

Pakistan's ambassador to the U.S., Mahmud Ali Durrani, on Thursday insisted Musharraf's government provided the former prime minister with unprecedented security. He said that terrorists and extremists, who also have targeted Musharraf, were the only ones responsible for her death.

Bhutto wrote the e-mail on October 26, eight days after at least 130 people were killed and hundreds more wounded in Karachi by the suicide bombing that occurred as Bhutto's motorcade passed.

Siegel forwarded that e-mail to CNN's Wolf Blitzer, with instructions he not report on it unless Bhutto was killed.

Just before returning to Pakistan after eight years of self-imposed exile, Bhutto told CNN she was aware of threats against her and said that some had come from people who hold "high positions" in Pakistan's government. She said she had written a letter to Musharraf about her fears, apparently the same letter she refers to in her e-mail to Siegel.

In a speech, she listed four groups she believed posed the biggest threat to her and her cause -- the Taliban in Pakistan, the Taliban in Afghanistan, al Qaeda and a suicide team from Karachi that she did not describe.

After the October bombing, she accused elements in the government and security services of trying to kill her and asked Musharraf for "basic security," including vehicles with tinted windows and private guards in addition to police guards. Three United States senators repeated the request in a letter to Musharraf.

Bhutto was concerned by the lack of security she had upon her arrival in Karachi and called the October 18 bombing "very suspicious," Siegel said. He accused Pakistani authorities of not investigating the assassination attempt and of refusing Bhutto's request for Scotland Yard and the FBI to aid in the investigation.

Bhutto and her husband had asked for jammers to impede the detonation of bombs; special vehicles with tinted windows; and four police vehicles to surround her at all times, Siegel said.

"She basically asked for all that was required for someone of the standing of a former prime minister," Siegel told CNN's "The Situation Room." "All of that was denied to her. ... She got some police protection, but it was sporadic and erratic."

Bhutto was concerned the problem was worsening as the January elections neared, Siegel said.

At the time of the October suicide bombing, Bhutto was riding in a truck from Karachi's airport to the tomb of Mohammed Ali Jinnah, founder of Pakistan. She had moved from the roof to inside the bulletproof, armed vehicle just moments before the blast and was unharmed.

CNN's Dan Rivers, in Karachi to cover her return to Pakistan, remarked at the time that her security appeared to be loose, saying his crew was able to walk up to the side of her vehicle without being stopped by authorities.

Durrani, Pakistan's ambassador to the U.S., insisted security surrounding Bhutto then was more than adequate.

"There were, I think, a sea of security people," he said. "She was surrounded by police vehicles. And had it not been one of the police vehicles which took the blast in Karachi, unfortunately she would have died there.

"There was a bubble around her of security. The PPP [People's Party of Pakistan, Bhutto's party] insisted that they have their own private loyalists around. They were there too. And there were about 7,800 to 8,000 security people deployed just for that," Durrani said.

"That is more security than anybody deploys anywhere in the world."

"She was moving almost in a sea of humanity," Durrani said. "No system in the world can protect you against that."

Bhutto "is not a security person," he said. "She's a politician. I think the government of Pakistan provided her all the security that was necessary. You tell me -- the way she was hit, she would have been hit with tinted windows or without, or without the IED ... so it's just a blame game."

After the October attack, Bhutto said police offered to let her use a helicopter for the trip from the airport, but she told them she wanted to be near her people. She said she did not regret that decision.

"She believed in democracy, and she believed in speaking to the people," Siegel said. "It's not reckless to go out and touch the people. Don't blame the victim for the crime. The person that was supposed to be protecting Benazir Bhutto and the other candidates was the government of Pakistan with the government of Pervez Musharraf."

Blitzer noted that Bhutto was shot Thursday while standing out of her vehicle's sunroof -- seen by some as a a reckless action after the October incident.

China has moved to restrict videos online, allowing only state-controlled sites to post any -- including those shared by users -- and requiring Internet providers to delete and report a variety of content.

It wasn't immediately clear how the new rules would affect YouTube and other providers that host Web sites based in other countries that are accessible from China.

A spokesman for San Bruno, California-based YouTube said the restrictions "could be a cause for concern, depending on the interpretation."

Tudou.com, which claims to be China's largest video sharing Web site, didn't immediately respond to an e-mail requesting comment.

The new regulations, which take effect on January 31, were approved by both the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television and the Ministry of Information Industry and were described on their Web sites Thursday.

Under the new policy, Web sites that provide video programming or allow users to upload video must have a permit and be either state-owned or state-controlled.

The majority of Internet video providers in China are private, according to an explanation of the regulations posted on Chinafilm.com, which is run by the state-run China Film Group.

Video that involves national secrets, hurts the reputation of China, disrupts social stability or promotes pornography will be banned. Providers must delete and report such content.

"Those who provide Internet video services should insist on serving the people, serve socialism ... and abide by the moral code of socialism," the rules say.

The permits are subject to renewal every three years and operators who commit "major" violations may be banned from providing online video programming for five years.

Adhering to the new rules could be daunting for YouTube, where about 10 hours of online video covering a wide range of topics is uploaded to the site every minute.

The video-sharing site, which is owned by Google Inc., already faces allegations that it should do more to block the distribution of clips that infringe on copyrights.

None of YouTube's video-hosting computers is in China, but the government there could still block access to the site from within China.

YouTube hopes the rules won't cut it off from the rapidly growing number of Chinese residents with Internet access, spokesman Ricardo Reyes said.

"We believe that the Chinese government fully recognizes the enormous value of online video and will not enforce the regulations in a way that could deprive the Chinese people of its benefits and potential for business and economic development, education and culture, communication, and entertainment," Reyes said.

China ranks as the world's second largest Internet market with a total audience of about 164 million, including people who surf the Web from public computers, according to the research firm comScore Inc.

Only the United States, with about 182 million Internet users, boasts a larger online audience.

YouTube says people around the world watch more than 200 million videos on its site each day. It declined to specify how much of its traffic comes from China.

Google and other major Internet companies like Yahoo Inc. and Microsoft Corp. all have set up operations in China in hopes of making more money from online advertising as the country's economy grows.

But doing business in China also has required the companies to obey laws that stifle and punish free speech, raising the ire of U.S. politicians and human rights activists around the world.

In the biggest backlash so far, Sunnyvale, California-based Yahoo was attacked in Congress after providing information about the online activities of two Chinese journalists who were subsequently imprisoned. Both journalists are serving 10-year prison sentences.

In November, Yahoo settled a lawsuit, agreeing to pay the attorneys' fees of the journalists. Yahoo also said it would "provide financial, humanitarian and legal support to these families." No other details of the settlement were disclosed.

World Daily News / Mumbai cops U-turn on female abuse
January 05, 2008, 03:16:09 AM
Police arrested 14 men Friday for allegedly harassing two women outside a five-star hotel in Mumbai during New Year's celebrations, a case that drew widespread criticism after police initially refused to pursue it.

The men face charges of harassing women, rioting, unlawful assembly, criminal intimidation and causing criminal breach of trust, said police officer K.L. Prasad. If convicted, they face up to five years in prison.

The case made headlines earlier this week when Indian newspapers and television news channels ran photographs of a crowd of nearly 50 men at the upscale Juhu beach area of Mumbai pinching, groping and grabbing the clothes of two women who sobbed and fell to the ground as their male companions tried to shield them.

The incident was captured by Hindustan Times photographers, who also alerted police.

The husband of one of the women said they live in California and had come to Mumbai to celebrate the New Year after getting married three days earlier in neighboring Gujarat state.

"We were shocked. After the horrible experience, we just wanted to get back to our hotel," he told the Hindustan Times, which did not identify him on privacy grounds.

Police Commissioner D.N. Jadhav, initially dismissed the case as a routine one and blamed the media for blowing the incident out proportion.

"It's just an offense, and I can't force a cop to police every man in the city. These things can happen anywhere ... even right here where we are," Jadhav told reporters on Tuesday.

He was reprimanded later that day by R.R. Patil, the Maharashtra state home minister, who pledged to find the culprits.

Prasad said one suspect was brought to a police station by his parents and neighbors after they saw his picture in newspapers and he later revealed the names of other suspects.

"Many of the men know each other. They are school dropouts and do odd jobs," Prasad told reporters. "They attended a party and consumed alcohol before going out on the roads to celebrate New Year's Day when the incident happened."

Mumbai is India's financial and entertainment capital, but its tag as the safest Indian city for women has suffered in recent years with incidents of women being raped on trains and harassed in crowded buses and at railroad stations.

Most Indian cities have an abysmal safety record, with women routinely being harassed in crowded public spaces.

"Women must speak up every time these incidents occur. The pictures will help nail the men in this case," said Flavia Agnes, a women's rights activist. "But offenders must be dragged to the police, action must be taken -- only then will these hooligans be held in check."

World Daily News / Earthquake sends residents fleeing
January 05, 2008, 03:15:29 AM
An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.3 rattled the western coast of Sumatra on Friday, causing frightened residents to flee their homes.

There were no reports of damage or casualties in Bengkulu province, about 370 miles west of the capital, Jakarta.

The jolt -- in the same area shaken by an 8.4 quake in September that killed 25 people -- did not trigger a tsunami, Indonesia's Meteorological and Geophysics Agency said.

The U.S. Geological Survey put Friday's tremor at a magnitude of 5.9.

The shaking sent residents running out of their houses in panic, a local witness told El-Shinta radio.

Indonesia, which straddles a series of active fault lines, is prone to seismic and volcanic activity.

A giant earthquake along the same coast spawned the Asian tsunami that killed more than 230,000 people in December 2004.

On December 15 last year, a tremor struck with a preliminary magnitude of 7.1 at a depth of about 60 miles in Maluku province, about 1,700 miles east of the capital Jakarta. It caused no major damage or injuries.

World Daily News / Japanese stocks plunge
January 05, 2008, 03:14:31 AM
Japanese stock prices plunged Friday to their lowest finish since July 2006, losing ground after jittery trading on Wall Street amid concerns about the U.S. economy and rising oil prices.

Japan's benchmark Nikkei stock index lost 616.37 points, or 4.03 percent, to finish Friday's half-day session at 14,691.41 points on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The close was the index's lowest since it posted 14,500.26 points on July 19, 2006.

The TSE had been closed since last Friday for the New Year's holidays. The exchange resumes full-day trading next Monday.

Wall Street closed narrowly mixed Thursday after share prices dropped sharply the previous day on weaker-than-expected data for the U.S. manufacturing sector. Record oil prices that have topped $100 also pressured stocks on worries that higher fuel costs could slow investment, spending and growth.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 12.76, or 0.10 percent, to 13,056.72 Thursday, and crude oil futures set a fresh trading record of $100.09 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Worries about the economy in the United States -- a key export market for Japanese manufacturers -- as well as the dollar's weakness against the yen sent export-oriented shares down.

Increasing oil and raw material prices also took their toll on exporters while giving commodity stocks a boost.

"High flying blue-chip exporters are going to have a tough time coping with rising commodity prices, a stronger yen and a slowing U.S. economy," said Masanaga Kono, strategist at Societe Generale Asset Management.

Shares of Nissan Motor Co. plunged 9.2 percent, Toyota Motor Corp. finished 4.3 percent lower, Sony Corp. fell 6.6 percent, and Canon Inc. dropped 5 percent.

Tokyo's broader Topix index, which includes all shares on the exchange's first section, lost 63.77 points, or 4.32 percent, to 1,411.91.

Other Asian exchanges -- most of which opened 2008 on Wednesday -- have not followed Japan's lead. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index rose 2.3 percent in morning trade, while benchmark indices in China, Singapore and South Korea are up by more than 0.5 percent in afternoon trade.

In currencies, the U.S. dollar was trading at 108.98 yen Friday morning, down from 109.33 yen late Thursday in New York. The euro rose to $1.4750 from $1.4744.

World Daily News / Key al Qaeda deputy killed in Iraq
January 05, 2008, 03:13:45 AM
An al Qaeda in Iraq leader who was suspected of helping to plan a large scale attack against coalition forces "in the near future" was killed by a U.S. air strike south of Baghdad last week, the U.S. military said.

The military also said it captured "dozens of suspected extremists" connected to al Qaeda in an assault south of Baghdad on Saturday.

Muhammad Khalil Ibrahim, identified as the deputy military leader for the al Qaeda's network south of Baghdad, was killed along with two other terrorists in the air strike on their vehicle on Dec. 27, the military said.

Ibrahim was "a key planner in numerous attacks against Coalition forces operating in the Mahmudiyah area, and was also involved in the facilitation of foreign terrorists and weapons," the military said.

The news release announcing the deaths said Ibrahim "and other senior al Qaeda members were allegedly planning to conduct a large-scale attack against Coalition forces in the near future."

On Saturday, the U.S. military and Iraqi Army launched an assault south of Baghdad in the Ubaydi farmland area, described by one U.S. soldier as a place where "people are either aligned with al Qaeda in Iraq or they've been killed or chased away."

More than 40 suspected extremists were captured, including 32 that were on the Iraqi Army's "most-wanted list," the military said.

Meanwhile, Iraqi security forces banned cars and trucks from the roads of Baquba and two other cities in the Diyala province Friday to protect caravans of pilgrims returning from the the hajj in Mecca, an Iraqi military spokesman said.

Several thousand Iraqis traveled to Saudi Arabia for the annual pilgrimage, many of them in convoys of cars, trucks and buses. Last year's return was marred by several attacks that claimed the lives of both Sunni and Shiite pilgrims.

The vehicle ban for Baquba, al Khalis and al Muqdadiya will run through Friday as Iraqi security forces escort the pilgrims into the cities, where many will be met at mosques by their families.

The hajj is the annual Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca, the holiest city in Islam, and adult Muslims are required to go on the pilgrimage at least once during their lives.

But the journey has its risks for people traveling through a country at war. Diyala, the province north and east of Baghdad, has become one of the most dangerous areas in Iraq in recent months with shootings and bombings.

Philippine Daily News / Abu Sayyaf militants arrested
January 05, 2008, 03:12:36 AM
Two al Qaeda-linked Muslim militants, including one wanted for the 2001 kidnapping of three Americans and 17 other people from a resort island, were captured in separate raids in the southern Philippines, officials said Friday.

Troops arrested suspected Abu Sayyaf sub-leader Tuwatin Anahalul in Zamboanga del Sur province's Margusatubig town Thursday, said Lt. Gen. Nelson Allaga.

Anahalul, also called Abu Basilan, has a $48,700 bounty on his head.

"He was involved in the Lamitan siege and Dos Palmas kidnapping," Allaga said.

Allaga was referring to the 2001 kidnapping at the Dos Palmas resort in western Palawan province. The Abu Sayyaf kidnappers brought their hostages by boat from Palawan to southern Basilan island, where they raided a hospital in Lamitan town. The militants, with hostages in tow, escaped four days later from the hospital after battling government troops.

Anahalul later guided troops as they arrested another Abu Sayyaf figure in Margusatubig. Officials have declined to name the second suspect because operations related to the case are continuing.

Last month, 14 Abu Sayyaf militants were sentenced to life in prison for the kidnapping of U.S. missionary couple Martin and Gracia Burnham, as well as Guillermo Sobero of Corona, California; and 17 others from the resort.

Gracia Burnham survived the yearlong jungle captivity ordeal, which prompted a U.S.-backed offensive against the guerrillas. Her husband Martin was killed during a Philippine military rescue in 2002. Sobero had been beheaded earlier by the Abu Sayyaf rebels.

U.S.-backed offensives have dislodged the guerrillas from their bases on Basilan, but they remain a major threat. Officials estimate their number is down to about 300 guerrillas, from roughly 1,000 in 2001.

The overall leader, Khadaffy Janjalani, was killed in September 2006 in fighting on southern Jolo island. His presumed successor, Abu Sulaiman, was fatally shot in a clash last year.

World Daily News / Musharraf denies Bhutto death role
January 05, 2008, 03:11:44 AM
Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has said assassinated former prime minister Benazir Bhutto ignored government warnings -- and defended himself against accusations that he had a role in her slaying.

He also admitted Thursday he is not satisfied with the investigation into her death, making his comments to reporters in a rare news conference held in English.

The first question to the Pakistani leader after his 20-minute address dealt with the myriad of conspiracy theories that blame Musharraf's government for helping orchestrate last week's assassination of Bhutto, who led the opposition's push for Musharraf to abandon his role as Pakistan's military leader.

"Frankly, I consider the question below my dignity to answer, but however I would like to answer it," Musharraf told the reporter from Britain's Sky News.

"I'm not a feudal and I'm not a tribal -- I have been brought up in a very educated and civilized family which believes in values, which believes in principles, which believes in character.

"My family, by any imagination, is not a family which believes in killing people, assassinating, intriguing. And that is all there I want to say."

Later, he accused Bhutto of "ignoring" warnings from the government and detailed the security provided to the former prime minister in Liaquat Bagh, the Rawalpindi park where she was killed last week.

She was informed of the threat to her, the first time about three to four weeks back when she wanted to the same place," Musharraf said. "The intelligence agencies knew there was a threat and we told her not to go. ...

"So therefore she went on her own volition, ignoring the threat."

The park, often a place for political gatherings, is named after Pakistan's first prime minister, Liaquat Ali Khan, who was assassinated in 1951.

More than 1,000 police were patrolling the park where Bhutto's convoy passed last Thursday, and government snipers patrolled each building's rooftop, Musharraf said. Bhutto was traveling in a bulletproof vehicle, and had handpicked the head of her security detail, he said.

Musharraf pointed out that no one else in the vehicle was injured when gunshots rang out, followed by suicide blast that killed nearly two dozen people in the crowd.

"Nobody gets hurt (inside the car), only she when she ... decides to rise above the sunroof," he said.

He asked reporters to consider what he would have to gain from any role in assassination.

"Anyone who wants to assassinate or do anything of this kind must weigh pros and cons," he said " Would I ... be the maximum gainer or is there somebody else here who could gain more? So this is another element that I leave to your judgment."

He expressed his dissatisfaction with the way investigators immediately cleaned the area where Bhutto was killed, possibly wiping away key forensic evidence.

"It's unnecessary. It shouldn't have been done," Musharraf said. "But if you are meaning that they did it by design to hide evidence -- no.

It is just inefficiency ... on the part of these people who think that things have to be cleared and the road has to be cleared and traffic has to go through.

"But certainly I'm sure that they didn't do it with an intention of hiding some secrets or that the intelligence agencies ... had instructed them to hide this. No, I don't believe that."

Meanwhile, a team of Scotland Yard investigators arrived in Islamabad Friday morning to assist in the probe into Bhutto's assassination, Interior Ministry spokesman Iqbal Javed Cheema said.

The five British forensic experts will meet with Interior Ministry officials Friday before joining the Pakistan investigative team, Cheema said.

Musharraf said Wednesday that he expected the Scotland Yard investigators would help "solve all the confusion" surrounding the case.

DNA analysis indicates a 3-year-old boy living in a Bogota foster home is the child of a woman held captive by leftist rebels for nearly six years, Colombia's top prosecutor said Friday.

The results suggest President Alvaro Uribe was right -- and that the leftist rebels misled Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and the world when they promised to release the boy along with his mother Clara Rojas and another hostage from their jungle camps.

The DNA analysis shows a complete match between the mitochondria in the blood of Rojas' mother and the boy, chief federal prosecutor Mario Iguaran announced, meaning that there is a "very high probability" that "this boy belongs to the Rojas family."

The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, promised two weeks ago to release the boy fathered by a leftist rebel, along with Rojas and former congresswoman Consuelo Gonzalez. Chavez assembled a team of international observers and invited filmmaker Oliver Stone to participate, along with a media horde.

But the rebels never told Chavez where to pick them up, and blamed operations by Colombia's U.S.-backed military when it called off the liberation of the three hostages on New Year's Eve.

Uribe then announced that the rebels could not keep their promises because they did not have the boy, who had been living in foster care under a different name, Juan David Gomez, for more than two years.

Venezuela complained that Colombia had not permitted its own team of specialists to take blood samples from the boy to make its own confirmation of the DNA results.

"I told the Colombian foreign minister that that attitude casts a cloak of doubt on the investigation," Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro told state television Friday.

1. The drive to Panglao beach with my grandma, my sister, my uncles and aunts--and remember seeing food in pots. And all of us eating in the benches in the beach with the thatched roofs on top, hahaha. Afterwards, I would remember going to the beach with my cousin and sister collecting starfishes.

2. Driving to Valencia from Tagbilaran to visit my Lolo Ciano and my Lola Nating. Then Lolo would take all of us to his basaks and I would remember wearing boots just to cross and walk in the basak. So green. So vast. Lolo always made sure all of us wore the rice hats kai init kaayo sa basak during the day time. I always wanted to join the farmers in their planting of the rice, but Lolo told me not to. Jati! haha

3. Bajang Springs. I remember being a small kid and just diving into the large pool in Bajang. Off the side tho, I remember Lolo telling me that the cliff just above Bajang was an area were the Japanese soldiers forced the Filipino guerillas that were captured and American men of the cliff. Ingoon kono si Lolo ug si Lola daghaan pood ang intchik tawo sa una gi patay didto kai naa bitaw conlict ang hapon sa intsik sa guera nila. Mao na ang Lola nako (she was chinese) and her mother and father moved to the bukid during the war to escape the Japanese for surely they would have killed them had they known they were Chinese. {history side note}

Nothing can kill romance faster than the word prenup. But with about one in three of all first marriages ending in divorce, and 50 percent of second or third ones hitting the skids, a prenup is smart financial planning, legal and financial experts say.

"Think of it as a business arrangement or as an insurance policy to help remove some of the emotion that's naturally involved," says Nancy Dunnan, a New York City financial adviser and author. "Marriage is not just an emotional and physical union -- it's also a financial union. A prenup and the discussions that go with it can help ensure the financial well-being of the marriage."

A prenuptial accord is a contract between two people about to wed that spells out how assets will be distributed in the event of divorce or death. Such agreements have existed for thousands of years in some form or another, particularly in European and Far Eastern cultures, where royal families have always made provisions for protecting their wealth.

source: www.bankrate.com

Reading this article immediately reminded me of an excerpt in gospel concerning marital problems. And it does go back to its immediate basics: Trust. There has to be some kind of trust in a relationship, particularly marriage, in order for the union to work as well as last. Every marriage will have its own 'ups and downs', however, it is left to the husband and wife to strive through such stage in life---to pass the test. These two verses in the gospel sing truth and wonder concerning the subject matter at hand.

1. Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not envy. It does not boast. It is not proud. It is not rude. It is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered. It keeps no record of wrong doing. It does not delight in evil, but rejoices in the truth. It always protects, trusts, hopes, perseveres." --1 Corinthians 13

2. So they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate." --Mark 10:8-9

The moral to this story is to stay true to one another; have faith in your spouse, if there is a will, there is a way. Let not petty matters affect your marriage. Money, income etc will be sustained and secured--so long as the union and bedrock of the family is secured. A divided house will buckle under its own weight, but a united house will sustain and survive even the greatest of storms.

Cheers to you all.

PS. Never give up. (This goes out to those who are having rifty relationships; don't forget to forgive your love ones )

I have great respect for her, Ate Belle, because of her undying and firm conviction. She fought a good fight for her country, for her people. She could have returned into exile and lived in security and wealth, but she did not. She returned home despite the odds and the threats to her own life. She gave it all for her country, Bless Her for that. I cannot help but compare her to that of the Philippine's own Dr. Jose P. Rizal, who also laid down his life for his country, led on by his own firm conviction. It is with full countenance and hope that I say Bhutto will be hailed as a Leader of the Pakistani People in years to Come. Things Happen for a reason.

I just find TB very Unique Forum...

but i dont know why?

can you tell me why?

Tubag Bohol is a unique forum because of one thing: The People.
You guys are a lovely group of individuals with impressive and notable minds, which echoes in the minds of us readers. All of us come from different forms of life, different professional pedestals, ages, and gender, religious backgrounds and nationalities. Yet we all share one thing that connects us together: The Interest and Love of Bohol.

I think this is what makes and ultimately defines a 'Boholano'. We, as a people, are docile, casual, and humble--for the most part. Yet vehemently passionate towards our hometowns and our precious Bohol.

As a son of Bohol, I am proud to raise a glass with you all in our cherished union and brotherhood. Let us all ALWAYS give thanks to our dear and precious Bohol and its people. For which, we all came from, grew and manifested to our present potential and dare to declare in achieving future full potentiality. Let us all give a little back to our Bohol Island. Either in donations to churches, educational organizations or through the balikbayan boxes to our loved ones back home.

God Bless our Beloved Bohol

My favorite are the Beatitudes. Why I love it? Because it is self explanatory, and its words emanates the Glory of God. His Love. His Compassion.  His Justice. His Forgiveness. His Laws.

The Beatitudes:
Matthew 5:3   "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.{Isaiah 57:15; 66:2}
4   Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.{Isaiah 61:2; 66:10,13}
5   Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.{or, land. Psalm 37:11}
6   Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.
7   Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
8   Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
9   Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.
10   Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
11   "Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

Beautiful. Beautiful. I love this man, and his God-given talent.
His rendition of 'Ave Maria' is sublime and beyond comparison.
God Bless him.

Okey-Okey ra 'te. :)
Family was warm and friends were present.
However, my heart longs to go back to Bohol; I was able to call my family in Tagbilaran and Valencia, but as I was given the phone to talk to my Lolo, I couldn't stop the tears from falling from my eyes. My Lolo is fine, Salamat sa Dios, but he sounds so weak na jud. What struck me was when my Tito and Tita told me that Lolo was 'na tulug na' during the afternoon--it was alarming for me. Because when Lolo was here in NJ with us--he never took naps. Always, he was katawa-katawa with me or he would be the one to wake me up because he always woke up early. I'm very homesick, 'te. I miss my Grandfather. My Last Grandfather.

I hope the city can facilitate the creation of smaller medical clinics throughout the rural regions of Tagbilaran as well as solicit the Governor of Bohol and the Provincial Treasurer to create smaller clinics in the rural areas of Bohol. It is evident of the stagnancy of the medical situation in dealing with Dengue in Bohol and the loss of life every year due to the distance of the current hospitals from the victim and the victim's family (regarding the difficulty of transportation, etc).

Dengue is incurable (as the virus cannot be treated by anti-virals; it is too mutative and nullifies any anti-viral's effects); however the only way to assess the patient is to provide immediate Medical aid, which is:

1. Massive and constant hydration
2. Pain medication
3. Proper vitamins; the assistance of the immune system is primary; as it is the patient's immune system that battles the virus
4. Proper nutrition etc

These are key things that needs to be taken into consideration. Dozens of Boholano children fall prey to Dengue. Why should the youth and elderly be allowed to suffer when prevention, and emergency treatment is possible?

Reasons why we should instigate the growth of local rural clinical centers:

1. Bohol's population continues to grow; and as the people continue to move and build homes in formerly swamp land; festive mosquito ridden areas; there will be a growth in Dengue-related incidents.

2. Public Health. Dengue, syphilis, cholera etc are all public health concerns and are all preventable, given the proper finances and administration is secured. It is the prime concern of the Bohol Provincial directors and provincial government to assess this condition; the lives and safety of citizens are at stake.

3. Attraction. Foreigners do not like to hear cases of 'Dengue' etc, considering these are things that have been 'wiped out' or 'assessed' in Western Nations. Here in the United States, Dengue has been properly assessed; considering the prevalence of medical clinics in urban, sub-urban and rural regions. Same applies to western nations with heightened medical systems and status. The 'Health' of Bohol and the Boholano people attracts foreign investments, foreign patronage etc. In all reality, the province and city should invest in anti-dengue initiatives for both Boholanos and foreigners that are and 'thinking' about living and retiring in the province.  Mutual Relationship.

4. Progression.

Thanks. Please take this into heavy consideration. Thank You.

As for me, ive been so busy4x since I came home from college winter break. Tinuud jud na ang saying 'you're too busy doing errands at home to even stop and assess your personal feelings." lol. I cannot complain because I feel so content to be doing things--taking the brothers to karate practice--and driving my sister to the mall with her friends etc. I will admit that I am also a late shopper. LOL. (this is targeted to my close TB pares-mares in here ;) )

Life really 'goes on' jud, no? Tinuud jud na ang saying.

So this goes to all of you in here. My fellow readers and Boholanos!
