I'm an avid novice astronomer and every night, if given the chance, I like to look at the stars through my telescope.

The heavens, in my view, is rather humbling and beautiful at the same time. The majesty of it all--imagine...beyond our milkyway, all those stars are mere suns and they have their own solar systems--with individual planets rotating about the axis point. Yet there are billions of stars---uncounted. Their formation, their lumination of the night sky.

How glorious and great is the Lord. In all his infinite wisdom that he made the world, and other worlds. That he willed hydrogen to be made so that it would creat gas and formulate the creation of planets. That he created oxygen--so that its negative charge would attach its electrons to the positive hydrogen--to form water. And from water, in his knowledge, would lead to the creation of life itself. Hence biota, taxa were manifested. The birth of a world.

Insoy, that amazes me too... and wonder if "something" lived there!!!

One thing never cease to amaze me is God's creations!  For one, the flowers, really amazing with all different colors!  The stars during starry, starry night!  The sunrise and sunset!

And the moon ... but what good is the moon without Ramon!  ;D

Right now, I am in the biology research lab all by myself doing work; its 9:40 PM right now and just finished preparing sulfuric acid in 80 moles of strength for my students tomorrow in ecology lab. Reading this thread just really intrigued me, that out of all the continuum of animals in this world, we are the only ones who wish to understand and unravel the complexities of science. Why we are so determined to find out why and how things work; per se right now i just finished preparing 50 45 ml test tubes for tomorrow's experiment; which involves examining the tissues of avian species which my professor and i collected this past weekend (part of the lab portion for tomorrow)--why did I do this? To understand the functions of of the cells, and the test tubes will be used to examine the protein nature of these cells (endodermal) vis a vis electrophoresis. To understand the proteinic nature of dermal cells and its layers; how charges (negative, positive charges) affect movement processes--(neuromuscular, muscular, orthotics etc). Amazing no?

And to think, scientists make it a career choice to study biology, chemistry, biochemistry in order to understand and have a fuller grasp of our world around us. And to think, before our ability to even understand such complex processes, everything--all of it--has been here.

Humbling, in my honest opinion.

That is true. You remind me what Dr. Ostrofsky and I were talking about this past weekend, 'te. We were in the Allegheny Forest Park Reserve collecting blue jays, robins and crows--and we happened to strike a rather interesting conversation that I dont think i'll ever forget. We talked about the progression of science, particularly biology and the history of medicine. One thing that he told me that our society's scientific progress has made huge leaps and bounds--from the discovery of the bacterium, the viral nature, genetic codets, neural processes etc--all of which have been made known in the 20th century alone. Science is ever changing, he made it known, as when he was a student in my position--biology was once known as 'zoology', which made us laugh--discerning the age of my professor, lol. But he and I had such a warm conversation as we sat on top of a hill in the Allegheny Forest--looking around the vastness of the evergreens and maplewoods. "Before you and I were born, all of this was here, and after you and I and our successors, all of this will be here--the only difference will be the techniques scientists in the future will use. We all have one thing in common that links us with history and it is our intrinsic need to discover and understand our surroundings." Mao jud, and tinuud jud what Dr. Ostrofsky said. Science is ever changing, in all reality, the concept of science is merely a social construct; a manifestation of our race's specific need to understand the scientific processes of our surroundings.

I do agree with my professor in that years after I am long dead, scientists will look back at my generation and discuss the 'old techniques' that we use. The very same way as we, of the present, study the development of natural science (bio, chem, physics, neuroscience) of say the 18th, 19th and 20th century.
