Glorious. 120 avian species? and let alone 20 species of frogs and lizards? What strikes me is that I never knew about this, I mean i knew that massive species formation must occur due to the fact that the Philippines is an archipelago, and as a result the effects of isolative reproduction takes its effect. Similar species that were once 'sisters' say eons ago no longer can breed due to changes in protein acceptors within the sugar and peptide backbone of the DNA strand. What thrills me is that from your research, there is causal conclusive evidence of further species dynamics due to the fact that this was only observed in 11 barangays in one island of the 7,000+ islands of the Philippines.

Glorious.

Anyone looking to do their doctoral thesis on ecological variance, streams ecology, limnology, avian studies etc would find the Philippines a perfect study site.

Ligz, I salute you for your informative abstract. Looking forward to reading the entire body.

January 24, 2008, 04:38:22 AM
Quote from: ligiah on January 24, 2008, 04:28:53 AM
Thank you for your concern Lorenzo... i am quite confident that my family is doing fine back home. It is just me worrying... it cannot be helped. I have responsibility since I am also the eldest.

It is very good that you have started breaking down the wall called 'machismo' between you and your dad.

As for my Tatay... well, I could not remember any instance wherein I told him that I love him verbally. I have only said that to him in the form of a letter, or email, or text messages. The only times I even hugged him was during my college graduation and when I was about to leave for Denmark. I was never ever close to my father and I bet, the words exchanged between us can only be counted to a thousand or two... and now I realize how sad it is that way.

I see fathers who are very close to their daughters and that just turns me green with envy.. and i often think, was I good enough a daughter to not have that same kind of attention? Or was it also my pride that I did not open up to my father first? I do not know... but, I do hope it is not too late when I come back home... I can still express everything I have left unsaid to my Tatay...

Please, call me Bran. Amigo na ta ha.

Pride. That is exactly the reason why I was never ever able to tell my father that I love him, or as frequently, Ligiah. Sometimes I fear that I will seem 'weak' and too 'emotional'. The thing is that even though I dont want to show myself as an emotional person to my parents--that is why I act too serious sometimes--because i dont want to be seen as too 'emotional' or 'soft'. I know it is ironic, and it is really hard trying to change it. Though I am trying to change that, ive learned through life experiences that it is better jud to be yourself and true to yourself jud. Because you know we only live once, diba? And sometimes things happen and we wish we could have been more open to others and wish that we could have showed our true selves to that person. But its all too late. That is what I fear the most, jud.
It is really mom mom who is the one that tells me all the time to 'swallow your pride'. And I thank her day after day for telling me that. Pride, it truly is an asset, yet it is also a barrier.

I hope that you will be able to express yourself to your Tatay. And to answer your rhetorical question, you are not a bad daughter nor are you any less than any others. Always believe in yourself and it is good to have pride at times, ligz, because at least that way you know you are an honorable and true woman. Many men find that very attractive, conservative yet subtle.

Regards ha,
Bran

January 24, 2008, 03:59:56 AM
A beautiful personal anecdote, Ligiah. Its very touching to hear your story, and I feel for you. I hope all is well with your family back in the Phils.

You know I need to admit that I LOVE my Dad. Whenever I'm at home, I usually end up having small quarrels with him about minor things; per se, not taking the garbage out early enough, not trimming the lawn to his epectations, walking the dog, silhiging the floor or silhiging the basement etc. I think it is a way for us to show our feelings for one another, that and the fact that I am so much like him. Though I deny it whenever my mom and my aunt or my siblings tell me that specially when im angry at them they say, "Kuya, please dont be angry like Dad, you're sounding and acting like him." LOL. I never expressed my feelings to my dad as outwardly as possible as an adolescent in high school or in middle school. However, being away from home for extended periods of time has fostered that longing for my parents. Specially for my Dad.

I remember the first time I came back home during freshman year for christmas break and the first time I saw my dad, he and I hugged. I whispered to his ears, "I love you 'Dee". He anwered, "I love you, 'doy". It felt very different and odd because we never do that often. I guess it is part of the machisimo nature of Filipino men. Who knows. I still don't openly tell my dad that I love him, because it is already established that I do and he does. But whenever it has to come to verbal expression, I always end up crying.

He is my Dad. My only Dad.

Outdoors and nature are not only a source of recreation for me, but also a source of education and knowledge.

i have gone boating and snorkeling various areas of Bohol (i.e. Pamilacan, Cabilao, Anda, Balicasag) to hiking and treading the forests and hills of Bilar, Valencia, Garcia Hernandez, Corella, Sikatuna, Balilihan, Dimiao and Anda.

I Went camping for a month for my thesis at Bilar and Valencia (various sites like Lantang, Banderahan, Cambuyo, etc.) for my thesis. I spent it capturing bats, reptiles, frogs, and birds. But my thesis was mainly on bats. That was very memorable and most of all knowledge-expanding. I did my thesis in cooperation with the Soil and Water Conservation Foundation Inc.

I also went on an environmental assessment survey in the beaches of Anda... specifically the plight of the sea turtles in Anda.... and sand extraction. So, survey, meaning, lakaw lakaw sa beaches , mangitag nesting sites sa sea turtles.

I also became a consultant for a sea urchin and sea star thesis... and i went on samplings with them. I really am magnetized to outdoor and nature activities... and I hope to come back to do it soon.... I really really really miss it!

What was your thesis on? For a graduate/masters's/doctoral program?

I am interested in your research, Ligiah, pray entice us with your data findings and conclusive assay.

Lorenzo dear,

I can only say amen to this.
To used your own words:

"To those who accept bribery in Valencia, don't complain, because you are as responsible for the act as the person propagating the act of vote buying. Don't be hypocritical. "

Cheers!

I second that, Tita Anel. I can only wish that new politicians will come to the helm in Valencia, most of all, let us start slow and gradual. One thing the municipality needs to do is document these forms of vote buying and corruption to the DILG. It is an infringement of Philippine Law to do so, and those who are responsible for this crime should be held accountable. If people are 'scared' to report it to the authorities that such an act is being promulgated, then one can be indirectly held responsible for allowing this travesty to occur.

That is the truth. And to those who accept bribes and give out bribes, all I can say to you is:
Shame on You! Kinsa man ka? Wa ba ka'y respeto sa imung kinsa-kinsa? Di ba ka ma-uwaw sa imung act?
Don't walk over the good and honest people, they are not your stepping stones. As an elected official, you should hold yourself responsible, not only to your fellow townsfolk, but to God and Country. Shame on You!

I wont deny it, I cry whenever I leave home for college. The first things that come to my mind is the image of my Mom, my Dad, and my little brothers. Ever since freshman year in college, driving to college has always been a big burden on my heart, this is my senior year and still I cry really bad when it comes to driving away from home.

I'm private when it comes to crying, I dont cry in front of my sister or my friends or when I'm saying good bye to my parents and my brothers. When I'm alone, thats when I shed my true feelings.

Are you guys the same?

Question and Answer / Do you get homesick?
January 24, 2008, 01:14:19 AM
For those who travel frequently or are in college or some form of graduate school, do you find yourself homesick often? Specially when you leave for home during vacations and then go back to school, work etc. Do you find yourself reminiscing of home or feel the nostalgia of home? Frequently? Not so? How so?

Share with us.
#49492
For me, it is hard to let things go. Specially whenever it is serious and degrading to the person. I think it isn't good to quickly forgive, it entices others to walk on you or commit a similar act or an act of the same magnitude in terms of degradation. At times, it is necessary for a person to hold another in account of his or her actions, if they do not ask for an apology--or show some kind of guilt to the said act; or ask for some kind of clemency, then why should you be the one to forgive them? Why does one have to bend backwards for the ill act of another, who dare I say, meant to harm and instigate hatred/wrath on you?

Nay. I have a problem with this.

If a person truly wants to illustrate his or her verisimilitude, then he or she should show guilt of the said ill act; and hold his or herself responsible for the instigation of another individual thereby accepting the societal and inter-personal response--as effect of a particular transgression. The transgressor should therefore know where he or she was wrong and take responsibility of the said transgression and thus ask for clemency from the one who he or she offended. It is the only moral and ethical thing to due. If a person cannot recognize this phenomenon, then he or she is not deserving of 1)  forgiveness from the transgressed and 2) rectification.

Anyone who was transgressed by another individual and instead of demanding an apology, but instead 'forgave' that instigator, unwhittingly acquiesced to the actions and the perceptions of the transgressor. Indirectly speaking, the transgressor translates this to fit his or her own agenda. It is the psychology of a human being to rectify his or her own actions, and for us to 'forgive' quickly an ill act is to 'rectify' and 'justify' the one who was guilty, thereby will indirectly lead to his own psychosomatic legitimization of the same act to another person. Indirectly, you would be held accountable for this proliferative response.

He who begets a wrong should take the helm. Not cower in fear of the response of his action.

A big Congratulations to our Admin, Sir Michael Ligalig.
Without his effort and hours dedicated to this site, all this would not be possible.
Mike, your dream has blossomed into a flower and reality for us all.
We all benefit from the seed that you planted.

Tubag Bohol shines with brilliance, as does our Beloved Bohol Province!

And may the World come to know the beauty and splendour of our Birthplace. Our Bohol!

Ate Ging, I will offer a benediction to the Blessed Santo Nino tonight and mention your Dear Tito in my prayers. Ate, you and your entire family are in our thoughts. Please find peace tonight. And remember that your Tito is in a better place, where there is neither agony, pain, and temptations. The Lord is Kind, and his Mercies are Everlasting to Everlasting. God Bless your Tito for his pains and his agonies.

"Then shall the dust return to the earth whence it came, and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it." Peace be with you, all whom death has united in this field, the last home of so many departed ones. Peace will be with your souls, which have been recalled by the voice of God to eternal life.
Amen.

I am so sorry for the loss of your Tito, Ate Ging. It is always a painful event to loose a family and loved one, specially one that has influenced our lives. I pray that your family is in good health, and in the right path.

Lord, God, I pray for our dearly departed Manoy Pael, who was called to your house this week, we pray O Lord that he be given the love and mercy that Christ Our Lord, who is Co-Eternal with the Father, and the Holy Spirit, the Tri-God Head, can provide. May the soul of Manoy Pael join others who passed this world to the land of the dead and be justly judged by thee, before all the Angels and Saints. We humbly ask this of you, O Lord, may our prayers be like sweet incense to the Throne of the Divine Mercy.

God, the Father, Hear us
God, the Holy Spirit, Hear us
God, the Son-Christ Jesus, Hear us

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world,
Have Mercy on Us
Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world,
Have Mercy on Us
Lamb of God Who takes away the sins of the world,
Grant Our faithfully departed Manoy Pael Peace.

Glory be to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the Beginning, Forever It Shall Be, World Without End.

Amen.

This will be an online review of Molecular Biology for this Spring Semester. The data included in this thread will follow the time chronology of lessons learned and taught in Molecular Biology 305. If interested, follow through, if you have further questions about the basis of the periodic lessons, feel free to ask it here or PM me; either way it is up to you.

I'm starting this lesson thread for practical purposes, to keep the information flowing--

That said, lets begin!
