World Daily News / Re: Global warming or global cooling?

My research study is but a wing emphasis on the paleolimnology aspect of Sandy Lake, a limnoaquatic site; which reverberates the historical aspect of Industrialization and eutrophication. There are, however, few researchers that have published articles concerning the current status.

Here are some articles through JSTOR, a science-related engine.

Enjoy:

I am not telling anyone, I am informing the dictation of research :)

I am not forcing you to read. However, you're reasoning is crude and extremely closed minded. So you're saying that anyone can do what they say in their closed minded and irational mind? Even your example of letting people believe the earth is flat is weak and mundane. So you would rather believe a lie than be elucidated in pure truth? Science proves and dictates what is true or not. Stubborn idiocy leads to blind nihilism and repudiacy.

Hello Lorenzo,

First of all the issue of whether there is global warming is not up to politicians to decide whether they are liberal or conservative.  Global warming is a science that should be left to scientists to decide whether it is happening or not.  Politicians are just implementers of policy.

Most of the global warming studies have been based on models.  What the paper you are deriding is challenging the previous global warming models.  And if I may humbly mention, it has been said by one of the most respected modelers that “All models are wrong, but some are useful” (G.E.P Box).  As far as saying that it is accepted by all scientists that global warming is happening, that is a crock!

If you have been doing research on global warming can you please give your peer-reviewed publications that we can read and then make up our minds?

The research paper that I am conducting, which is funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Energy and is a joint thesis paper. I have a thread on it in the Research Cooler if you want to read about it.

Additionally, perhaps you misjudged the point of my post, as it was in condemnation of Political figures of certain nations, which are responsible for the qualitative effects in response to this ecological and biogeochemical response. Perhaps you may have not noticed this, but nation states INFLUENCE global warming, in fact many nation states have directly contributed to the depravation of the stratosphere, atmosphere, ecological environment in terms of unnatural chemical increases in said environment. Politicians, hold the power to either change this course, the laws they pass can either be pro-environment or anti-environment.

A minute case study to verse you in this, is the European Industrialization during the late 18th century to the 19th century, which utilized rare natural resources (non-renewable, such as coal, which also lead to the eutrofication, as well as death to limnoaquatic sites and metals poisoning of localities), the American industrialization, the ongoing global industrialization and the lack of regulation boards in said nation states such as India and China (which are promoting this problem) as well as the United States (the largest consumer of raw natural resources).

I will give personal anecdote that influences my siblings and I.

My parents, they love each other despite the problems that comes with marriage, and have done everything, sacrificed everything, for their children. My mother works 12 hour shifts in the hospital 5 days a week, and overtimes 2 hospitals. My father, works 3 hospitals works 6 days a week; and some of his shifts are 16 hours long. We, the children, have asked them to reduce their load, pero ang ginikanan namo will reply, "Ayaw na lang mo pa worry namo, ang importante mo skwela mo tanan, mo study mo tanan. Taga-i lang mi good grades and success, pay us back that way." It grieves me sometimes to see how much my parents work to send both of me and my sister to a private college as well as support my younger siblings who go to a private high school. Pero it gives me an example of how a parent SHOULD be. How a husband and wife SHOULD be. Total sacrifice and love for family and for each other. Ingoon ahong mommy nako sa una before we were born, they were inseperable. The two of them (mom and dad), pero after na born ako ug ahong sister, of course ning adto ahong papa sa Saudi to provide for the family, ning adto ahong mama sa US to provide as well. To this day, they have not stopped.

Total Sacrifice, mao ni gi ingoon nila. And there are thousands of Filipino families in the 'states and all over the world that exemplify this. It is an example to their children of what to do. Because you know, I do not know other parents that would do such things as what my parents do. My friends' parents do not work such hours, they do not put too much emphasis on studies and let their children go running around, rebellious with no discipline. My parents are strict, pero they provide completely. Mao na what a couple should be like after marriage.

One has to think about the future and focus on the dependents and not on one's self all the time.
That is what defines a good relationship, a good man and woman, a good husband and wife.

For what is the meaning of husband and wife, if not for the children?

My only advice to men is to go after the caring and easy-going women. Not the ones that will openly hurt you or show some kind of ambivalence. Di na worthy. Go for the woman who truly and utterly shows affection pood, it is not worthy to pursue something that does not give back. A waste lang na.

For me, ang importante is family. If something like this happens to me and that I lost my love for my wife, I will bear with it. Kai the family is important, I would sacrifice my own happiness for the security and safety of my children. Because, in the end, they are what counts the most. They are our offspring, and even if a marriage has lost its 'fire', it is nonetheless the responsibility of both parties to provide the best and ONLY the best for their offspring.

When the child comes into the equation, one should already forget himself or herself. Child comes first. Be selfless pood. Your own satisfaction lasts for what? 10-20 years? What about the child's...

Men have been driven off the edge because of such incidents; gone mad.

yeah... but women tend to be stronger and wiser after things like these happen.

No question.

Women are indeed stronger in the long run. Men appear strong because they put on a facade of male machisimo, a mask. If one breaks the mask or their cover, the soul of the Filipino man is unearthed. And if you break him, you break him completely.

Thus, is the weakness of a man.

Too conservative ra jud ning Shariyah Law.
Their laws are like the same laws that the Bible and Talmud prescribes,
Such as the laws for adultery; where a woman would be stoned to death.
We no longer do that

There is one verse in the Talmud, that declares it is better to cut your hand off than to steal, and this law was enforced by the Hebrews, even by early Christian kingdoms, however, no longer is followed due to the barbarity of it all.

In Islamic Republics, they follow such laws, called Shari'yah laws, to the book.
When my dad was still an Engineer in Saudi, he told me that there was one case where a Filipino construction worker was charged for stealing by the Saudis, and the crime was his right hand being severed. There was another case where a Filipino worker killed a Saudi in a brawl, the Saudi started the fight by the way. The punishment was the beheading of the Filipino.

They treat Filipinos harshly there because of their Christian faith as well as look down on non-Arabic peoples.

Very intuitive of the Norwegian government, they're thinking species-wise not just nation-wise.

I think the United States has a massive vault underneath a military held-mountain range in the Rockies that holds such things; as well as weaponry. The entire mountain range is bunkered.

Bravo to Norway for Her future-oriented plans. Let's just hope it doesn't have to come to that.

By: Benigno R. Ramos

Cordoba.

Kay layo at nag-iisa.

Itim na kabayo, bilog na buwan

at mga olibo sa aking kargada.

Kahit na kilala ko ang daan

hindi ko maaabot ang Cordoba.

Sa kapatagan, sa hangin

itim na kabayo, pulang buwan.

Pinagmamasdan ako ng kamatayan

mula sa mga tore ng Cordoba.

Ay, kay layo ng patutunguhan!

Ay, kabayo kong matapang!

Ay, hinihintay ako ng kamatayan

bago makaabot sa Cordoba.

Cordoba.

Kay layo at nag-iisa.

Poems and Poets / For All We Have and Are
February 26, 2008, 07:03:21 PM
For all we have and are,
For all our children's fate,
Stand up and meet the war.
The Hun is at the gate!
Our world has passed away
In wantonness o'erthrown.
There is nothing left to-day
But steel and fire and stone.

Though all we knew depart,
The old commandments stand:
"In courage keep your heart,
In strength lift up your hand."

Once more we hear the word
That sickened earth of old:
"No law except the sword
Unsheathed and uncontrolled,"
Once more it knits mankind,
Once more the nations go
To meet and break and bind
A crazed and driven foe.

Comfort, content, delight -
The ages' slow-bought gain -
They shrivelled in a night,
Only ourselves remain
To face the naked days
In silent fortitude,
Through perils and dismays
Renewd and re-renewed.

Though all we made depart,
The old commandments stand:
"In patience keep your heart,
In strength lift up your hand."

No easy hopes or lies
Shall bring us to our goal,
But iron sacrifice
Of body, will, and soul.
There is but one task for all -
For each one life to give.
Who stands if freedom fall?
Who dies if England live?

-Rudyard Kipling

February 26, 2008, 07:01:59 PM
To you who'd read my songs of War
And only hear of blood and fame,
I'll say (you've heard it said before)
"War's Hell!" and if you doubt the same,
Today I found in Mametz Wood
A certain cure for lust of blood:

Where, propped against a shattered trunk,
In a great mess of things unclean,
Sat a dead Boche; he scowled and stunk
With clothes and face a sodden green,
Big-bellied, spectacled, crop-haired,
Dribbling black blood from nose and beard.

It is better for the man and woman to leave and fail to fulfill his or her role in the wedding isle than have him or her engage in relationships outside the marriage.

To me, that is the greatest folly to any relationship. Especially to a man, and his pride.

Better to loose a woman who relinquishes her duties due to her inability to fulfill her God-given oath of marriage, than to bear the burden of a failed marriage. A loveless relationship is bitter; it staggers the body and soul.

Interesting, I've read into this before. What really makes these pathogens really hard to suppress is due to their practical immunity to antibacterials due to their mutative aspects. These organisms are both feared and yet intriguing due to their immunity to drugs. They are almost viral-like in terms of mutanogenisis.

All of these so called '3rd generation fighters' could not even target or locate the Raptor, which can outrun, outfly, outmaneuver, outfire every one of them. US Defense claims that a squadron of F/A-22 Raptors can take out the entire Russian Air Force (which has the 3rd largest air force in the world).

These planes were all 'shot down' by the Raptor in Combat:

Sukhoi Mig-33 (The Cream of the Russian Air Force; their primary offensive fighter)

Sukhoi 27, Medium defensive/offensive air fighter (popular in the Russian, Chinese, and Middle East, Eastern Europe)

Mig-21, cheap, affordable, primary defensive attack fighter, popular in poorer nations

The F/A-18 Super Hornet, Popular Offensive Fighter of the United States Navy, Air Force
(carrier-based fighter)

F-15 Air Superiority Fighter, the predecessor of the Raptor
(for 2 decades this fighter has guarded American Airspace in the US and its territories abroad, and has not once been defeated by an enemy plane)

F-16, popular tactical interceptor.
#48168
'te, the Raptor is capable of making sharp 90 degree as well as 360 degree turns in a a fraction of a second.

The Raptor is armed with:

AIM-9
The F-22's side weapons bays (one on each side) will initially hold one Aim 9 Sidewinder missile. The Sidewinder is a heat seeking IR guided missile effective at short range. In the future however, the Aim-9x IR guided missile will be introduced which will have small tail surfaces unlike previous versions. Most likely, the F-22 will be capable of carrying two Aim-9x's per side. The Aim 9 Sidewinder will be extended on a trapeze mounted launcher before the launch. This is to allow the Aim 9's IR seeker to effectively acquire the target or "sniff" it.

M61A2 cannon
The F-22 will come equipped with an internal cannon. Lockheed Martin will install a M61A2 cannon, which is an improved version of the original M61. A new feature includes longer, composite-wound bullets. The M61A2 will be mounted just above the right wing root. To preserve the F-22's stealthy characteristics, an inward opening door will cover the muzzle until the weapon is fired.  It is capable of firing 100 rounds per second, carrying 480 rounds in all.

JDAM
In 1994, the USAF asked Lockheed Martin to develop an air to surface capability for the F-22. Provisions were later made to the lower weapons bays to accommodate one 1,000 pound GBU-30/32 Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) per side. A simple GPS (Global Positioning System)/inertial system will guide the weapon to its target. Eventually later versions will have increased precision attack capability by including a programmable radar seeker. The F-22's air-to-surface operations will be carried out courtesy of its onboard synthetic aperture radar (SAR) modes.
In addition to the F-22's internal weapons bays, it will also be capable of carrying stores externally. Four underwing stations will be able to support up to 5,000 pounds. Underwing stores will be fitted to the F-22 when stealth is not critical. External drop tanks up to 600 US gallons can also be fitted onto the stations. This will increase the F-22's endurance and range significantly.

The F/A-22 Raptor is the only Air Superiority Fighter in the world, the F/A-22 was last tested against a multitude of fighters, it went on 'mock' dog fight against a squadron of Sukhoi-Mig 33 (the Russian version  of a super fighter), Sukhoi 27, Mig-21, and all of those fighters were taken down, none of them were even able to track the Raptor. The Raptor won despite a ratio of 1 vs 12 fighters

The F/A-22 Raptor then engaged American fighters in mock air combat; going against a squadron of the feared F/A-18 Super Hornet, F-16, and the F-15. One Raptor went against 2 F-18s, 2 F-15s and 4 F-16s; the Raptor tactically targeted all 8 fighters and took them down even before those fighters could even lock on to the Raptor.

My research thesis, which is environmental-based, examines the Nitrogen-Carbon-Sulfur; C:N ratio changes within limnoaquatic sites vis-a-vis residual core; as well as examining trace metals % presence in the prevailing limnoaquatic site, primarily presence of Cadmium, lead, zinc, arsenic, and mercury {given off in coal effluents} as a study in the effects of the Industrialization had on the research site, and a case study that symbiosizes with the macro-view of American Industrialization and effects to local biota. So far, there has been strong positive correlation vis-a-vis relative frequency data and cumulative frequency data/graphical analysis that there indeed was a peak increase of the said metal traces during the 1820-1930 time epoch, which correlates with the height of American Industrialization. The effects? Increased effluents. Which has not only been documented and recorded through core samples in the limnoaquatic bed site, but correlates that to the positive relation to the atmospheric composition and degradative effects it had on the atmosphere, which continues to this day. My research, which is primarily focused on Ecological Paleolimnology and Biogeochemistry, which is but a minor detail in the discourse of industrial effluents, proves that this problem has affected the environment even before; this 'Global Warming' phenemona is not a 'New Thing' that liberals are making up, as what most Republican Conservative would declare. No. This 'Global Warming' phenomena has been in process since the dawn of Human civilization

Science has proven the existence of Global Warming, it is no longer an issue, it is fact.

It is the idiocy and foolish demeanor of bi-partisan politicians that ridiculously dare question the existence of Global Warming.

The major problem with Global Warming is that a large percentage of politicians around the globe Refuse to accept it, and or implement governmental and economic changes to alleviate the excess industrial, commercial effluents that are largely attributed to this phenomena.

Is it Happening?

• Average temperatures have climbed 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit (0.8 degree Celsius) around the world since 1880, much of this in recent decades, according to NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies.

• The rate of warming is increasing. The 20th century's last two decades were the hottest in 400 years and possibly the warmest for several millennia, according to a number of climate studies. And the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports that 11 of the past 12 years are among the dozen warmest since 1850.

• The Arctic is feeling the effects the most. Average temperatures in Alaska, western Canada, and eastern Russia have risen at twice the global average, according to the multinational Arctic Climate Impact Assessment report compiled between 2000 and 2004.

• Arctic ice is rapidly disappearing, and the region may have its first completely ice-free summer by 2040 or earlier. Polar bears and indigenous cultures are already suffering from the sea-ice loss.

• Glaciers and mountain snows are rapidly meltingâ€"for example, Montana's Glacier National Park now has only 27 glaciers, versus 150 in 1910. In the Northern Hemisphere, thaws also come a week earlier in spring and freezes begin a week later.

• Coral reefs, which are highly sensitive to small changes in water temperature, suffered the worst bleachingâ€"or die-off in response to stressâ€"ever recorded in 1998, with some areas seeing bleach rates of 70 percent. Experts expect these sorts of events to increase in frequency and intensity in the next 50 years as sea temperatures rise.

• An upsurge in the amount of extreme weather events, such as wildfires, heat waves, and strong tropical storms, is also attributed in part to climate change by some experts.

Human Responsibility?

• Industrialization, deforestation, and pollution have greatly increased atmospheric concentrations of water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide, all greenhouse gases that help trap heat near Earth's surface.

• Humans are pouring carbon dioxide into the atmosphere much faster than plants and oceans can absorb it.

• These gases persist in the atmosphere for years, meaning that even if such emissions were eliminated today, it would not immediately stop global warming.

• Some experts point out that natural cycles in Earth's orbit can alter the planet's exposure to sunlight, which may explain the current trend. Earth has indeed experienced warming and cooling cycles roughly every hundred thousand years due to these orbital shifts, but such changes have occurred over the span of several centuries. Today's changes have taken place over the past hundred years or less.

• Other recent research has suggested that the effects of variations in the sun's output are "negligible" as a factor in warming, but other, more complicated solar mechanisms could possibly play a role.

What Will Happen?

• Sea level could rise between 7 and 23 inches (18 to 59 centimeters) by century's end, the IPCC's February 2007 report projects. Rises of just 4 inches (10 centimeters) could flood many South Seas islands and swamp large parts of Southeast Asia.

• Some hundred million people live within 3 feet (1 meter) of mean sea level, and much of the world's population is concentrated in vulnerable coastal cities. In the U.S., Louisiana and Florida are especially at risk.

• Glaciers around the world could melt, causing sea levels to rise while creating water shortages in regions dependent on runoff for fresh water.

• Strong hurricanes, droughts, heat waves, wildfires, and other natural disasters may become commonplace in many parts of the world. The growth of deserts may also cause food shortages in many places.

• More than a million species face extinction from disappearing habitat, changing ecosystems, and acidifying oceans.

• The ocean's circulation system, known as the ocean conveyor belt, could be permanently altered, causing a mini-ice age in Western Europe and other rapid changes.

• At some point in the future, warming could become uncontrollable by creating a so-called positive feedback effect. Rising temperatures could release additional greenhouse gases by unlocking methane in permafrost and undersea deposits, freeing carbon trapped in sea ice, and causing increased evaporation of water.

Lyrics to the song: "Be Not Afraid"

1. You shall cross the barren desert, but you shall not die of thirst. You
shall wander far in safety though you do not know the way. You shall speak
your words in foreign lands and all will understand. You shall see the face
of God and live.

R. Be not afraid. I go before you always. Come follow me, and I will give
you rest.

2. If you pass through raging waters in the sea, you shall not drown. If
you walk amid the burning flames, you shall not be harmed. If you stand
before the pow'r of hell and death is at your side, know that I am with you
through it all.

3. Blessed are your poor, for the kingdom shall be theirs. Blest are you
that weep and mourn, for one day you shall laugh. And if wicked men insult
and hate you all because of me, blessed, blessed are you!

I AM the bread of life
He who comes to Me shall not hunger
He who believes in Me shall not thirst
No one can come to Me
Unless the Father draw him

And I will raise him up
And I will raise him up
And I will raise him up on the last day

The bread that I will give
Is My flesh for the life of the world
And he who eats of this bread
He shall live for ever
He shall live for ever

Unless you eat
Of the flesh of the Son of Man
And drink of His blood
And drink of His blood
You shall not have life within you

I am the resurrection
I am the life
He who believes in Me
Even if he die
He shall live for ever

Yes, Lord, we believe
That You are the Christ
The Son of God
Who has come
Into the world

and there is not one moment that i don't thank you all for all your prayers for him and for his family, 'te. Today was his 3rd month death anniversary; so I did a benediction for him today in Church Mass. It helps a little, but everytime I see his girl friend, Allie, I have to hold back my tears because I can tell that she still is not over it. Its hard, i can tell, for her. Its been hard for all of us.

I was walking back from Ford Chapel today, coming back from church benediction and on my way to the Library.
I don't know why, or how, but I felt as if I saw you today.
I thought I heard your voice call out, "Hey Al"
I turned around, looked over and saw no one.
Then I realized, to my awe that I was standing by the maple tree that you used to sit next to--to read books--
Brother, I felt as if you were there.
Where you ? To visit? Maybe?

It's been 3 months, since I last talked to you. I miss you bro, you have no idea,
Sometimes I go to class, do everyday things, and then I'll talk to some of our friends,
they mention you or talk about you--and it brings back memories

They gush forth, like a wound being opened
My heart aches, brother, and sometimes I cry so hard thinking,
Rob its hard for me to understand that I cannot see you again
Today, As i walked back to my apartment, I thought about you and our conversations,
Laughter, Jokes, Dying laughing so hard because of the jokes you used to tell,
I used to think that someday, when we were finished, that we would be able to see each other
To meet your children, and you meet my children,
To be able to meet again during our 50th graduation anniversary,

I miss you bro,
Watch over me, bro
Watch over your family, bro
Watch over Allie, bro

I pray, I pray, that you are at peace.
I knew you as a good person, a good soul, a sincere spirit
May the Lord God see that, I pray the Lord, With Everlasting Mercy, be Compassionate

Your brother and friend,
Al

PS. You are right, Robbo, life goes too fast.  :'(

Youtube Replay / Battle of Leyte Gulf
February 25, 2008, 11:12:27 AM
http://youtube.com/watch?v=pV-002Om3xE

This episode of "Battlefield" chronicles the U.S. Navy's triumph over the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) at Leyte Gulf.

The Battle of Leyte Gulf consisted of 4 battles extending from Surigao Strait to Cape Engano.

The U.S. Navy's 7th Fleet's main task was to support and land the U.S. 6th Army at Tacloban beach in Leyte Gulf. The 7th Fleet (Kinkaid) consisted of: transports, destroyers cruisers, old battleships and escort carriers.

Protecting 7th Fleet was the massive U.S. Navy's 3rd Fleet. Third Fleet's task was too attack any Japanese Fleet presence and destroy Japanese land based air power.

A huge Japanese armada, the IJN Central Force (Kurita), was spotted by American reconnaissance planes, attempting to enter Leyte Gulf through the Sibuyan Sea. This fleet was attacked by the 3rd Fleet's carrier aircraft. The 68,000 ton super battleship Musashi was sunk in this battle.

While the 3rd Fleet (Halsey) was attacking the IJN Central Force, the IJN Southern Force (Shima and Nishimura) was attempting to enter Leyte Gulf, from the southern route, through Surigao Strait. The Southern Force was, for all intents and purposes, destroyed. In perhaps the most successful U.S. Navy torpedo attack in history, U.S. destroyers settled the Battle of Surigao Strait before any American battleships began firing.

Third Fleet believed that the IJN Central Force was in full retreat from the Philippines. However, Central Force had reversed direction and was attempting to re-enter Leyte Gulf. This Japanese plan succeeded and the Central Force began attacking elements of the escort carrier force in Leyte Gulf off Samar (Taffy 1, 2, 3). The Japanese attack was completely disorganized. Small U.S. Navy escort destroyer attacks through the whole Japanese fleet into confusion. The Central Force retreated thinking that larger American forces heard the desperate pleas from the Taffy carriers and were fast approaching the area. The U.S. escort destroyer's incredible bravery saved many lives during this lopsided engagement.
The IJN Northern Force (Ozawa) was a diversionary force. The IJN plan to lure 3rd Fleet from supporting 7th Fleet had completely succeeded. This force was decimated by 3rd Fleet's carrier aircraft off Cape Engano.

Leyte Gulf was an American victory. However, the mistakes made by American commanders clearly indicated the short comings, of the political decision, of not having an overall commander in chief of the invasion of the Philippines.
