It was hide and go seek.
He would be sitting on my lap and i would take a pillow and cover my face and when i covered my face he would whine and start to pull the pillow. hahaha
and then when i stuck my head out, kalit jud siya mo katawa. as in laugh laugh jud hahaha. Lingawa kaayo.

I loved carrying him kay when he went to sleep he would put his little arms around my big arm. So cute!!
Andre is my little bear cub. Sometimes i feel that he is more of a son to me than a brother.

I am so sorry for the loss of the young boy. Itawn, he was just watching tv.
They should have not left him by himself, at least one other person should have been there.

My sympathies and condolences to the family. Rest In Peace, little Junior.

Guys,

You know that I tributed a paragraph to Tubag Bohol in my senior thesis paper? LOL!
Today, during my composition oral defense, 3 professors of Biology asked me in their own words,
"Mr. Lucino, what does this phrase mean, ""salamat kaayo sa ahong amigo sa Bohol ug sa Tubag Bohol""

LOL

I had to explain to them what it meant and about the web site. Let us just say that it was an ice breaker. For 5-6 minutes we talked casually about the site and about the Philippines before we returned to biochemical jargon.

This website, has been my staff. Seriously, Thank You! To all of you. For the warm conversations in here, for the emotional support we all give to each other.

This isn't just a web site. It's a family in a way. Our very own Tubag Bohol Family.

And we give thanks to Mr. Mike Ligalig, for providing us the mechanism to interact with one another.
And to all of you guys, for making this family happen.

Ladies and Gentlemen of Tubag Bohol,

This afternoon at 1:00 pm my time, I just had a department group review and oral defense of my research. I just want to share with you that after 40 some minutes of interview, I was then notified that I "passed". My research will proceed to printing stage. :D

I am so very elated, and happy. And its amazing how time passed. I can still remember when it was september as I was still organizing and reading articles to find a research topic. I am amazed at how time passed. Everything just falls into place.

Humbly I thank you all for reading my rants, dealing with my stress during the formation, processing and deliberation of my comp. It just feels so so so good to be finished.

In the end,
To God Be All Glory And Praise!
Unending praise!

I agree bitaw.

Whenever I was disciplined by my father, he would always comfort me afterwards and say, "I did that because I love you."

And you know, thinking about it now in hindsight, I thank him for latusing me when I was rebellious and misbehaving. Had he not done that I would have been destructive and ill mannered. Dad has a way of instilling patriarchal respect, but he is also naturally loving.

It is only whenever we rebel or argue with him that he corrects me and my siblings.
I wouldn't have it any other way. A good father is a disciplinary father, me-thinks. Love, but also rebuke when it is necessary.

Its beautiful how genetics work isn't it?

My father's side of the family have strong Malay features. Facial hair, wavy hair, big built, large bones, and broad shoulders. Tan complexion.

My mother's side is Chinese. Very fair skinned and strong Han features.

And the resulting mixture of these XY/XX genomic interaction.

I can also look from the Ms. Orchids where she gets her facial phenotype from, strong mixture from her father and mother. Its beautiful how the processes works.

Thus we, humans, come about. From our parent cells. :)

From the eye of the Westerners and the Europeans, we look cool with our tatoos, head gears, colorful embroidered chalikos, bling-bling ornaments and of course the package is not complete without the Kriss.

Imagine someone wearing like these and posing in men's fashion magazine. Isn't it cool?

Further, I remembered reading one article before that during the Spanish occupation, any native weapon is banned. Hence, to keep their passion and skills of sword fighting, the natives of Cebu and Bohol keep up the tradition by replacing it with sticks and called the new artform "Eskerima". It became popular as a form of dance during fiestas and later evolved into what is now called "doce - pares" means "twelve pairs" because there are 12 pairs of steps as the basic. It looks like martial arts, but it is a choreographed traditional dance with 12 steps as basic.

This artform is handed down from generation to generation and until now it is still practiced in Cebu and some parts in Bohol. The last teacher of this artform is "Kikoy" from Cebu who established a school and now flourished that this artform is recognized internationally.

When I was a kid, I've seen one in Baclayon, I forgot his name. He is an old man and he will stand balancing on 2 coconut shells and challenge you to a stick fight. He will say, OK if you can hit my body or topple me from where I stand (2 coconut shells), you will become a master. My friend tried hitting him hard and fast, but all his blows are intercepted with great speed and that old man have good balance.

Mr. Ferniz,

I don't know much about Eskrima; but I know it is very popular over here in the 'states. I knew it came from the Philippines but never knew that it originated from the Visayas. Amazing; we Bisayans truly are a warrior-like people.

Is eskrima similar to the Indonesian martial arts known as Pencang Silat? In Pencang Silat, they use the Golok (keris/kriss) in fastidious motion. It is disarmingly beautiful how it is practiced.

Thanks for sharing, Mr. Ferniz.

I think dagat with stones as seabed mas daghan ug fish..no? sa Panglao Beach naay fishes ? imean pwede snorkel sa resort? or wala mga fish? Tacloban beaches have no fishes.. Ormoc beaches daghan!

Really? My father's clan hails from southern Leyte and Surigao. Well actually, the Lucino came from Surigao then part of the clan migrated to Southern Leyte, some stayed in Surigao. From Leyte, some came to Bohol.

Does your lolo come from Borgos? Pintuyan? Maasin? I have many relatives that hail in those regions.

The razor-like design of the Kriss has a beauty to it. Due to that design, it is able to impact greater force onto an opponent, thereby easily crushing and slicing through bone as compared to a straight edged sword.

The Kriss is known for its clean cut, and it was used heavily by Moros to decapitate enemies.

Death comes quick to anyone who is struck by a kriss.

I remember when i was 4 years old i went out to the sea because my lolo went out with a group of fishermen. I wanted so badly to go with lolo because i would follow him wherever he went, either in the basak, mo follow jud ko niya. to barangay anas to retrieve saging from his banana land, etc.

Pero when he went out to fish he would never let me go with him, and i can remember being so angry kai gusto jud ko mo adto niya--how could he not let his own flesh and blood apo go with him. haha that was my reasoning sa unang panahon when i was 4 y/o.

So what i would do was sit on the beach and watch him sail out with his friends. I can still hear him yelling to me "Doy! mo balik lagi ko unya!"

I would wait for him in the beach until the whining hours of the afternoon. Actually na bu**** ahong lola thinking that i ran away, lol. they didn't know that i was in the beach waiting for my lolo ciano to come back.

But whenever lolo came back, he always came back with isda, daghaaaaang isda jud! he would bring back some baby sharks, nokos, and all kinds of isda. i would rush to him and hug him and he would ask, "ning huwat diay ka nako, doy?". and i would respond, "oo gud! gusto man ko mo adto pero ingoon man ka dili puydi!"

hahahaha!

and my lolo would carry me with one arm while he carried his fishes with the other.
He used to make the BEST kinilaw in the world! and the sabaw he would make, was uncomparable to anyone's. Lolo made the best jud.

I MISS those days. I miss waiting for him to come back, and seeing his smiling face as he landed on shore. :)

I have read some article from excerpts from a 14th century European voyager's log book describing an event during a battle between Dutch and Malays. A malay weapon was described as made from a meteorite metal core with a silver handle and it says it can easily cut a gun barrel or slice through thick metal armour. The name of the weapon is "Keris".

Mr. Ferniz,

That is one of the many reasons why Spanish conquistadores did not venture far south of charted territories in Mindanao. The Spaniard's armour were easily penetrated by the Moro warrior's Kriss.

In fact, many moro warriors wore spanish armoured helmets, which they retrieved from the decapitated Spaniards. The Kriss is a very clean and swift sword, if properly sharpened and handled accordingly, can decapitate a man with one swift stroke.

In what is present day Yogyokarta, which is on the periphery of present day Jakarta, Indonesia, there are goloks that are almost 1000 years old.

Unlike the malays of the philippines, malacca (peninsular malaysia) and borneo, the malays of Java were very refined in art and culture. Java was the heart of two major malay empires: sri vijaya, majapahit. One of the major cultural practices of the malays in java were the production of refined weaponry, and hinduistic-buddhist temples.

The Golok (keris/kriss) was the standard weapon the Emperors and Kings of the Srivijayan and Majapahit Empires fielded to battle.

Here is a typical Javanese Golok.

the following is a royal standard, known as the tandok golok. Styled by Rajas in Java:

You became part of me,
just when, I'm not quite sure.
Most Likely in the subway,
where the air is not so pure.

Borne by airborne droplets,
sprayed out by some sneeze,
from some afflicted victim,
then carried by the breeze.

First my throat was sore.
Now my nose is streaming.
Viri in my head and chest,
Their numbers must be teeming.

It seems unthinkable
that such a tiny sphere
300 Angstroms wide
has left me lying here.

But, I know this is an old war
my body's fought before.
Little does this virus know
what there is in store.

In my spleen the leucocytes
issued with their warrant,
spill out into my blood
and are carried by the torrent.

Into all capillaries
and annexes they stray,
seeking virus O-1-4
until they find their prey.

"Feed a cold" someone said.
I ate and drank my fill.
Knowing that more leucocytes
would go in for the kill.

Now I am much better.
My head is feeling clear.
A day in bed to sweat it out
has brought the end quite near.

Here is the epilogue:
Just when I thought I'd won,
I looked up at Fabienne
and knew I'd passed it on!

Poems and Poets / A Scientific Christmas
April 11, 2008, 06:28:04 AM
by an anonymous scientist, lol

Twas the night before Christmas and all thru my house,
Not a specimen was stirring, not even a louse.
The test tubes were capped and the rat cages closed,
The mold cultures fuzzy, the mice in repose.
The oven kept warm the ebola and pox,
I still need to locate my husband's clean socks...
But that has to wait till tomorrow, I know;
My buggies still need that much more time to grow.

When from the kitchen came a massive explosion,
I leapt from my bed in perpetual motion.
Grabbing my lab coat I pulled on my pants,
Struggling into them a sick sort of dance.
With fury and haste I put on a shirt,
Running out of the bedroom on feet black with dirt.
Buttoning my lab coat and donning a mask,
I ran into the kitchen holding an Erlenmeyer flask.

I nearly passed out when the man who I saw,
dressed in containment gear sealed without flaw,
Held high a huge sack with his arm stiff and straight,
I could tell he must have a hard time with his weight.
Through the mike from his suit he said without pause,
"Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas, I'm Hanta Claus!"
Over his shoulder he hefted the sack,
We walked into the living room, I offered a snack.
He took it and smiled, placed the sack by my bench,
Instantly I noticed the Clostridium stench.
Brimming with joy, I cried out with glee,
"Did you bring all of these germies for me?"
"Oh yes," said Hanta, "I must show propriety;
By bringing you microbes, I'm saving society.
"You are the only one who loves these diseases.
Therefore I'm glad to oblige who it pleases."

Delirious with excitement I sat by his side
While he gave me a year's stock of microscope slides,
And pasteur pipettes, drug resistant bacteria,
Such as staph, strep and cultures from the genus Neisseria.

The gleam in my eyes caused the house to be lit,
The moment he gave me a gram-staining kit,
Clostridium tetani, perfringens and sporogenes,
Salmonella typhi and Streptococcus pyogenes!
Plus viruses known to produce hepatitis,
Herpes, and rabies, yellow fever and meningitis!
But that was not all, he had parasites too,
Plasmodia, trypanosomes and schistosomes true!
Tapeworms and roundworms, plague-carrying fleas.
How sincerely generous, Hanta did aim to please!

At long last he said he must now go away,
His sled was experiencing radioactive decay.
"Thanks for the presents," I said, shaking his hand,
"They'll keep me off the streets, you understand."

Hanta Claus smiled and bid me goodnight,
Shouting "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good blight!"

Poems and Poets / Sequences Lament
April 11, 2008, 06:22:32 AM
by Dr. Kalionis, M.D., Ph.D.

So this is it,
A few bases to go,
I've tried and I've tried but the techniques's so slow.
I've poured my gels,
I've run quite a few.
Full of bubbles, they leaked and why I never knew.
But where are the clones?
I've got to have clones,
The end is so near.

Is my broth rich?
Does it look clear?
Contamination is something I always fear.
Are my plaques blue?
They shouldnt be,
No DNA left I'm down on my knees,
So give me some clones?
I've got to have clones,
The end is so near.

I've had bad preps,
There've been quite a few,
Ive tried all brands of PEG, fresh buffers, but nothing would do.
And though they say,
Solutions will keep,
In my hands they last no more than a week.
So send me some clones?
I've got to have clones,
The end is so near.

I've read my gels,
My eyes are quite sore,
There's still sequence missing, of this I am sure.
But there it is!!
Finally done.
I've conquered this fragment and now I have won.
Whats's this I hear?
A voice from the door.
My supervisor wants 10kb more!
So give me some clones,
I've got to have clones,
Or I'll be here all year!

Poems and Poets / A Phage: E coli
April 11, 2008, 06:14:03 AM
by me

Two cells of E. coli were wandering slowly
Down the gastrointestinal tract.
An F+ was he, an F- was she,
And their membranes were bound to attract.

Now the dainty F- was born in a sinus
Where her members did seldom trespass,
But the brawnt F+ was spawned in some pus,
And produced both acid and gas.

A kiss he had stolen, down deep in the colon;
"Don't touch me", she said, "or I'll scream!
I have no protection, and an F+ infection
Would spoil my maidenly dream."

So the poor lonely fella withdrew his flagella
And worshipped her from afar;
"At least", he said, "wait, till I can mutate
And come back an HFR."

D N A,

this, the first, the place to start
feeling tones of alchemy's art
in the memory of the cells
is the key
multi-dimensional, infinite, free
that which leads to immortality
pulsing modulation resonates within
to the heart of the matter
is where we begin

in this, the second
we enter into the depths profound
through waveforms of evolving sound
energetic seals dissolve
light quotient's creativity unbound
electrons expanding orbits revolve
in freedoms dance again
in the full spectrum of the transmission we send
all together, more than the sum of each alone
a calling and a journey home

in this, the third
an energetic balance made,
communication and communion beyond words
a bridge links gaia, human, alien and the divine
a common ground beyond space and time
for, in truth, all emanate from same
different aspects of the game
lines of probability converge
past, present and future merge
in the point of power
the nexus of the now
synchronicities and infinite possibilities emerge

in this, the fourth
a vision of rebirth
descending into the element of earth
our path of intent leads underground
to hidden treasures revealed in sound
in these dark caverns formed in tears
of many lives and many years
we face our deepest doubts and fears
the way transformed in love's delight
dispells the pall of illusion's night

Hahaha, I can just picture you shouting and screaming, Kiams.

One time I can remember being surprised was when I went jogging by myself at night time. There is a cemetery about 2 blocks above our apartment complex, so I decided to jog around the premises and into the cemetery (which was a bad move on my part, btw). I decided to jog deep into the cemetery because there were light poles around the grounds. However as I went deeper, the light poles just turned off. I guess it's policy for the maintenance staff to turn it off after 12 midnight, and when this happened I had a dual feeling of shock and fear. I tried retracing my steps but without the lights I kept on stumbling on tomb stones. I heard alot of sounds that night, and I ran as fast as I could out of there.

Never again will I go into a cemetery at night to explore.

I nick-named her, "KL" an acronym for Killer Legs. LOL

hahahaha nothing escapes jud ha!  I thought she had nice lubut and yet you nicknamed her KL!  So I guess, killer lubut and legs diay inyong teacher, Dong!

Students can be so bad!  I remember I had a classmate who makes caricature out of our teacher while the teacher is trying to impart his knowledge to us.  Also, there was one classmate of mine who kept a record how many "you knows" our teacher says ever class!  The teacher kept on starting her sentence with "you know"!

'te,

I rarely express sexuality, but talking about Professor Notar only re-ignites the infatuation we had on her. She was about 42 years old, very tall probably about 6 foot. Her body was well developed, if you will, gifted in all of nature's excellence. Her voice was deep and soft, she commanded my respect by the power of her voice and the majesty of her body, lol.

I can remember when I had a meeting with her for my presentation on the Qing Dynasty. The meeting was in her office and was about 40 so minutes long. She was trying to tell me some things that I should include in my presentation, and I did try to listen to her. But my attention was focused on her mouth, her teeth, and her gorgeous green eyes.

I almost dozed off just looking and listening to her.

A very very very sexy woman, I deign to say. ;)

In college,

The best professor I ever had was Dr. Ostrofsky. I had him for Limnology and Aquatic Ecology, he is also my senior composition advisor in Paleolimnology. He has motivated me in the field and has been one of the major factors that encouraged my studying of medicine.

In fact, he provided a letter of recommendation for most of my medical school applications. He has taught me so much about biology and the systemic functions.

I owe much of my understanding of biological sciences to his teaching and his explanations.

Iran has begun installing 6,000 new centrifuges at its uranium enrichment plant in Natanz as part of its plan to develop "peaceful nuclear energy", state television quoted President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as saying Tuesday.

Iran's president says 6,000 new centrifuges will become operational at a uranium enrichment plant in Natanz over the course of the year, according to Iranian news agencies.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad -- who made the comments during an inspection of the plant on the country's Nuclear Technology Day -- said the installation began Tuesday.

"Iran last year installed 3,000 centrifuges and entered the stage of enrichment. And in the current year, new centrifuges will become operational, which is a sign of Islamic Iran's outstanding successes and achievements," Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying.

The period Ahmadinejad was referring to is the Iranian year, which began late last month.

The president also promised "good news" in the fields of "peaceful nuclear energy, aerospace and agriculture" and "eye-catching" work in science, economy and culture. He plans to elaborate on the developments in a speech on Tuesday night, news agencies reported.

The U.S. and other Western nations believe Iran wants to develop nuclear weapons. Iran insists its nuclear program is only for peaceful purposes.

U.S. National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said such comments are "not unusual given that today is 'Nuclear Day' in Iran."

"I cannot verify the accuracy of his statement, but regardless, the Iranian government continues to be in violation of multiple United Nations Security Council resolutions and with each step it takes it continues to isolate its people and risk further international financial and diplomatic sanctions."

China's policy in tibet is forced immigration. They flood Tibet province with waves upon waves of Han Chinese to settle the region. There are more Han Chinese than there are actual Tibetan ethnics in Tibet province now. They are 'Sinifying' Tibet, if you will.

China will not relinquish her hold on Tibet.

Tibet, is a strategic position for China, one that gives her leverage over India. The Chinese PLA  invaded India during the Sino-Indian Border War in 1962 through Tibet. China won that war, due to the strategic hold of Tibet.

A cult member who spent several months holed up in a cave with dozens of other people anticipating the end of the world claimed Wednesday that two women died and were buried inside.

The former cave-dweller, Vitaly Nedogon, relayed his claims to Russian TV journalists, according to Anton Sharonov, a spokesman for the administration of Penza, a region southeast of Moscow.

The official said Nedogon did not report the information to police or authorities. Once the rest of the apocalyptic sect leaves the cave, investigators will move in to try to confirm Nedogon's report, Sharonov said.

Nedogon and others left the cave, said to be near the village of Nikolskoye, about 700 kilometers (435 miles) from the Russian capital, about a week ago, after part of its ceiling collapsed.

He claimed two women died at different times during the cult's seclusion, which began in November 2007. One woman died of cancer and the other from excessive fasting, he told the media.

"However," Sharonov told the Russian news agency Interfax, "the Penza regional administration is of the view that these deaths must be proven legally, which is possible only if all the people leave the cave so that investigative officials can examine it."

Sharonov said those who remain in the cave told Penza officials during negotiations that they would come out by the Russian Orthodox Easter, on April 27. He said officials believe 11 people are left in the cave, but only nine will be alive if Nedogon's report is true.

According to Interfax, Penza Deputy Governor Oleg Melnichenko, who is leading the local effort to resolve the situation, said he was unaware of any deaths in the cave.

The cave ordeal began when Kuznetsov, the group's leader, told his followers to hide themselves to await the end of the world, which he predicted would take place in May.

They had threatened to commit mass suicide if authorities tried to intervene.

Thirty-five sect members are believed to have entered the cave initially, Interfax said.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown will skip the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics.

He became the second major world leader after German Chancellor Angela Merkel to decide to stay away from the opening ceremonies, although Brown's office insisted Wednesday that he was not boycotting the Olympics and would attend the closing ceremony.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy said last month that he was debating not attending the opening ceremony.

Asked whether U.S. President George W. Bush would go to the opening portion of the Olympics, White House press secretary Dana Perino demurred, citing the fluid nature of a foreign trip.

"It is extremely premature for me to say what the president's schedule is going to be" in August, she said.

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and others have urged Bush to consider staying away from the opening ceremony as a way to underscore U.S. concerns about the recent unrest in Tibet and questions about China's relationship with Sudan.

Brown, too, has been under intense pressure from human rights campaigners to send a message to China. But his decision not to attend the opening ceremony is not an act of protest, a spokeswoman for his office said, speaking anonymously in line with government policy.

She said the decision was made weeks ago and was not a stand on principle.

"He had never planned to attend," she said. "There is absolutely no change in our position."

International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge said in February that he expected many heads of state -- including Bush, Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy -- to attend the opening ceremony.

Hollywood director Steven Spielberg withdrew in February as an artistic adviser to the opening and closing ceremonies, saying China had not done enough to halt the bloodshed in Sudan's Darfur region. China buys much of Sudan's oil and supplies many of the weapons used in the Darfur conflict.

The leader of Britain's Liberal Democrat party, Nick Clegg, told British Broadcasting Corp. that Brown "seems to do the right thing late in the day when he is forced to do so because of public opinion."

London is hosting the next Olympics in 2012 and British officials were expected to be prominent at events throughout the games in China.

The Dalai Lama said he supports China's hosting of the Summer Olympics on Thursday, but insisted that nobody had the right to tell protesters demanding freedom for Tibet "to shut up."

"We are not anti-Chinese. Right from the beginning, we supported the Olympic games," he told reporters outside Tokyo on a stopover on a trip to Seattle. "I really feel very sad the government demonizes me. I am just a human, I am not a demon."

Protests have been held in cities around the world in a show of sympathy for Tibet, where anti-government riots erupted last month. Parades of the passing of the Olympic torch have faced massive demonstrations, most recently in San Francisco.

The Dalai Lama said the demonstrators had the right to their opinions, though he called for nonviolence.

"The expression of their feelings is up to them," he said. "Nobody has the right to tell them to shut up. One of the problems in Tibet is that there is no freedom of speech."

Chinese authorities have tightly restricted access to Tibet and Tibetan areas of western China, where protests also broke out. The sometimes violent anti-government demonstrations were the largest among Tibetans in almost two decades.

"Autonomy (in Tibet) is just in name, it is not sincerely implemented. The crisis is the expression of their (Tibetans') deep regret," he said.

Japan's government has been relatively quiet about the violence in Tibet and, out of deference to Beijing, does not deal officially with the Dalai Lama.

Tokyo does, however, grant visas to the spiritual leader, who has visited Japan fairly frequently. Buddhism is one of Japan's main religions, along with the indigenous Shinto faith.

No meetings were planned between the Dalai Lama and government officials although Japanese media said the wife of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe would meet with him. Neither Abe's office nor the Dalai Lama's liaison office in Tokyo could confirm the reports.

More than a dozen Buddhist monks protested Wednesday in front of visiting journalists at a monastery in western China to call for the return of the exiled Tibetan leader.

The monks, whose numbers grew to about two dozen during the 10-minute incident, shouted slogans in Tibetan in an outer courtyard as journalists entered a prayer hall at the Labrang monastery in western Gansu province bordering Tibet.

The incident followed a similar interruption during a closely scripted government media tour of Tibet's capital of Lhasa two weeks ago to view damage from anti-government riots that erupted there last month.

Other protests have been held in Paris, London and San Francisco along the route of the Olympic torch relay, prompting concerns that it could be shortened or possibly canceled in some areas to avoid violence.

The Dalai Lama has been living in exile in India since 1959.
