This picture makes me emotional kay maka remember ko sa akong maternal grandparents. We were still in elementary when they died. They were very simple and kind grandparents!

Everytime I go to the hospital to visit my dad at work, his coworkers always shout, "Al! is this your son? He looks just like you!" Or his pares say im his carbon copy. I've been so used to it. My maninoy even thought that I was my dad from the back view one time.

Its beautiful how genetics work isn't it?

My father's side of the family have strong Malay features. Facial hair, wavy hair, big built, large bones, and broad shoulders. Tan complexion.

My mother's side is Chinese. Very fair skinned and strong Han features.

And the resulting mixture of these XY/XX genomic interaction.

I can also look from the Ms. Orchids where she gets her facial phenotype from, strong mixture from her father and mother. Its beautiful how the processes works.

Thus we, humans, come about. From our parent cells.

My little sister, Lorraine "Angel" when she was only 3 years old.
She is a very fashionista girl today, and I always joke around with her how she was always fashionista when she was a baby.

Look at her shoes. They're spotless. She always wore a bag, because my mom had alot of bags hahaha.

haha, 'te, there was a game I used to play with him when he was only a little baby sigoro he was 9 months pa to.

It was hide and go seek.
He would be sitting on my lap and i would take a pillow and cover my face and when i covered my face he would whine and start to pull the pillow. hahaha
and then when i stuck my head out, kalit jud siya mo katawa. as in laugh laugh jud hahaha. Lingawa kaayo.

I loved carrying him kay when he went to sleep he would put his little arms around my big arm. So cute!!
Andre is my little bear cub. Sometimes i feel that he is more of a son to me than a brother.

And yes, perting strikto ahong parents. Pero it is good because they always remind us where we come from, and where our roots are. We speak bisaya in the house because my parents only speak to us in bisaya.

To my dad, yes, I amen-amen all the time. We don't 'hug' often. I only 'amen' mom whenever we go to church. I hug my mom alot

There are Pinoy families here that are like this, strikt and instill in their kids a cultural understanding of our Filipino roots. Then there are Filipino parents that want their kids to assimilate completely and not not teach their kids Tagalog or Bisaya.

Pero you know, even if they do that or not, when the kids go to college, they eventually want to know more, learn more of our culture.

I know that when I was in high school I really wasn't interested in Filipino culture as I was busy with schedules. But when I came to college, I wanted to know more about it. The same scenario speaks for other Fil-Am college kids. I think it is only natural that a person wants to know more about his or her culture. And when we do learn about it, we are amazed to how beautifully rich that culture is.

Alot of Americans love Filipino culture, Kiams.

We have a Filipino Awareness program here in college, and sometimes we bring in dances, songs, etc. Alot of American students like to know about Filipino culture, dances, martial arts. And it makes me smile how they refer to our culture as "so cool" or "beautiful", "exotic", "asian".
