Quote from: Sigbin II on September 10, 2007, 11:50:12 AM
When an individual thinks over for himself any issue brought before him, he tends to make intelligent decisions or reflections and is able to support these with reason.  When an individual submits himself to mob mentality he loses the caution that guides the prudent man and becomes a mere instrument for all modes of violence.

With the possible exception of EDSA? It was nonviolent but scared Marcos enough to scurry his old butt out of the country... ;D

Not quite, Mr Sigbin. I was a pharmacy student, and not a very good one, to be honest. Haha.

This was discussed in our pharmacognosy class, and the only reason I remember it is because our teacher was cute.

Do you think that would be a good case to present to CHED? to only allow cute teachers to enter our classrooms?

;D

Inspiration & Hope / Re: Being Too Naive
September 10, 2007, 11:35:04 AM
I've often been told I was too naive. I was merely being optimistic, and trying hard to be a happy person.

Some people think that naivete is wrong. That a person who is "naive" must be stupid, and therefore, weak.

I've been taken advantage of, been hurt a lot by some people...but surprisingly, I am still naive. Despite everything, I'd still rather be the one who gets hurt than the one who does the hurting.

^mr junayag, you hit the nail on the head  ;D

Most of us, during conversations, only pretend to listen. What we are really doing is just waiting for the other person to stop talking (sometimes, not even!) so we can further impress upon them our point of view. People who really listen are a rare bunch.

Indeed!

I am happy to be a part of the TB family. It's been such a blast.

This site has also proven that Boholano women are amazing! I was raised by strong, wonderful women...and I've often wondered if the reason they were so super was because they had Bol-anon blood.

And now, I know that to be true. The women here (Misses Bambi, da binsi, Ginger, Happy, AsianFairy, Melrose) are fascinating. I am in love with Boholanas now more than ever!  ;D

(Bol-anon men are wonderful too, of course)

My first date was unforgettable. There was this guy nga sige jud sunod sunod nako, dili ko ganahan niya kay dili man siya guapo.  ;D

He kept calling me, kept asking my friends things about me, mag stambay siya sa restawran atbang sa akong boarding house to get a glimpse of me kuno! charot!

I avoided him for a month. When he would try to go to my boarding house, I would warn my landlady to say I was either not there, or sleeping. Then finally, one night, gikan pa kos akong klase, my landlady said naa daw naghuwat nako sa visitor's area. Ngeks! ang lalake naglingkod na didto, perteng ngisi. I said to myself, "what the heck! I'll talk to him for a few minutes then tell him I had to study for a test"...

To my surprise, he turned out to be wonderful. He was smart and funny. He had some very interesting things to say. By the end of the night, I'd fallen for him. Sometimes, good things come wrapped in cheap japanese paper. Wahaha!  ;D

@Mr Junayag: I remember a line from Coelho's The Alchemist, "If you want something bad enough, all the universe conspires for you to get it", or somewhere along those lines. Sorry kung dili nko ma quote word for word, dugay na to nga panahon. Anyways, I agree. If someone truly wants something, he will do everything in his power to get it. If he doesn't pour his heart and soul into getting it, then it must mean he doesn't want it that bad, does it?  ;D

@Ms Melrose: I so loved the poem, bisan heartbreaking kaayo basahon. We can't make someone love us. Sad...but true. Mao na mo agree pud ko ni Ms Melrose, there are some things in life, that although we want soooo bad, we just can't have. Esp. if our "want" involves other people, then getting what we want becomes subject to the laws of the universe. It is out of our hands.  ;D

Sometimes, Mr Junayag, we also have to examine if we want something for the right reasons.

When I was in college, uso kaayo tong Levis 501, I was obsessed with getting a pair. It seemed that everyone had one, ako ra ang wala. I wanted it so bad pero dili man ko ka afford kay wala man ko'y kuarta.

Then pag abot na nako dire, nag shopping mi sa akong cuzin sa Gilroy, CA, where the outlet stores are ridiculously cheap, esp. with their season sale prices. When we went to the Levi's store, I saw that they had their 501's at 75% off! I didn't buy one. To this day, wala pa gyud katilaw ning akong sampot ug Levi's.  ;D

I realized that I wanted those jeans before because I knew I couldn't afford it. When we can't have something, we want it more. Do we want something because we really, truly want it? Or do we merely want it because we know we can't?  ;D

Love Talk / Saturday Mornings
September 09, 2007, 12:17:10 PM
The older I get, the more I enjoy Saturday mornings. Perhaps it's the
quiet solitude that comes with being the first to rise, or maybe it's
the unbounded joy of not having to be at work.  Either way, the first
few hours of a Saturday morning are most enjoyable.

A few weeks ago, I was shuffling toward the garage with a steaming cup
of coffee in one hand and the morning paper in the other.  What began as
a typical Saturday morning turned into one of those lessons that life
seems to hand you from time to time. Let me tell you about it:

I turned the dial up into the phone portion of the band on my ham radio
in order to listen to a Saturday morning swap net.  Along the way, I
came across an older sounding chap, with a tremendous signal and a
golden voice. You know the kind; he sounded like he should be in the
broadcasting business.  He was telling whom-ever he was talking with
something about "a thousand marbles." I was intrigued and stopped to
listen to what he had to say

"Well, Tom, it sure sounds like you're busy with your job. I'm sure they
pay you well but it's a shame you have to be away from home and your
family so much.  Hard to believe a young fellow should have to work
sixty or seventy hours a week to make ends meet.  It's too bad you
missed your daughter's "dance recital" he continued.  "Let me tell you
something that has helped me keep my own priorities." And that's when he
began to explain his theory of a "thousand marbles."

"You see, I sat down one day and did a little arithmetic.  The average
person lives about seventy-five years. I know, some live more and some
live less, but on average, folks live about seventy-five years.

"Now then,  I multiplied 75 times 52 and I came up with 3900, which is
the number of  Saturdays that the  average person has in their entire
lifetime. Now, stick with me, Tom, I'm getting to the important part.

It took me until I was fifty-five years old to think about all this in
any detail", he went on, "and by that time I had lived through over
twenty-eight hundred Saturdays." "I got to thinking that if I lived to
be seventy-five, I only had about a thousand of them left to enjoy.  So
I went to a toy store and bought every single marble they had.  I ended
up having to visit three toy stores to round up 1000 marbles. I took
them home and put them inside a large, clear plastic container right
here in the shack next to my gear."

"Every Saturday since then, I have taken one marble out and thrown it
away. I found that by watching the marbles diminish, I focused more on
the really important things in life.

There is nothing like watching your time here on this earth run out to
help get your priorities straight."

"Now let me tell you one last thing before I sign-off with you and take
my lovely wife out for breakfast. This morning, I took the very last
marble out of the container. I figure that if I make it until next
Saturday then I have been given a little extra time. And the one thing
we can all use is a little more time."

"It was nice to meet you Tom, I hope you spend more time with your
family, and I hope to meet you again here on the band.  This is a 75
Year old Man, K9NZQ, clear and going QRT, good morning!"

You could have heard a pin drop on the band when this fellow signed off.
I guess he gave us all a lot to think about. I had planned to work on
the antenna that morning, and then I was going to meet up with a few
hams to work on the next club newsletter.

Instead, I went upstairs and woke my wife up with a kiss. "C'mon honey,
I'm taking you and the kids to breakfast." "What brought this on?" she
asked with a smile. "Oh, nothing special, it's just been a long time
since we spent a Saturday together with the kids. And hey, can we stop
at a toy store while we're out? I need to buy some marbles.

A friend sent this to me, so I to you, my friend.

And so, as one smart bear once said..."If you live to be a hundred, I
want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live
without you." - Winnie the Pooh.

Jokes and Humor / The Church Organist
September 09, 2007, 12:08:21 PM
There was a church down in Southwest Texas that had a very big-busted organist. Her breasts were so huge that they bounced and jiggled while she played the organ. Unfortunately, she distracted the congregation considerably.

The very proper church ladies were appalled. They said something had to be done about this or they would have to get another organist.

One of the ladies approached the organist very discreetly and told her to mash up some green persimmons, and rub them all over her breasts and maybe they would shrink in size, but she warned her to not eat any of the green persimmons because: "they are so sour, they will make your mouth pucker up and you won't be able to talk properly for a while". She agreed to try it.

The following Sunday morning the minister got up on the pulpit and said.............

"Dew to thircumsthanthis bewond my contwol, we will not hath a thermon tewday."

WHEN I WAS MARRIED 25 YEARS, I TOOK A LOOK AT MY WIFE ONE DAY AND SAID
"HONEY, 25 YEARS AGO WE HAD A CHEAP APARTMENT, A CHEAP CAR, SLEPT ON A
SOFA BED AND WATCHED A 10-INCH BLACK AND WHITE TV, BUT I GOT TO SLEEP
EVERY NIGHT WITH A HOT 25-YEAR-OLD BLOND."

NOW WE HAVE a $1,500,000.00 HOME, A $45,000.00 CAR, A NICE BIG BED AND A
PLASMA SCREEN TV, BUT I'M SLEEPING WITH A 50-YEAR-OLD WOMAN. IT SEEMS TO
ME THAT YOU ARE NOT HOLDING UP YOUR SIDE OF THINGS."

MY WIFE IS A VERY REASONABLE WOMAN. SHE TOLD ME TO GO OUT AND FIND A HOT
25-YEAR-OLD BLONDE, AND SHE WOULD MAKE SURE THAT I WOULD ONCE AGAIN BE
LIVING IN A CHEAP APARTMENT, DRIVING A CHEAP CAR, SLEEPING ON A SOFA BED
AND WATCHING A 10-INCH BLACK AND WHITE TV.

1. We got off the Titanic first.
2. We can scare male bosses with the mysterious gynecological disorder excuses.
3 Taxis stop for us.
4. We don't look like a frog in a blender when dancing.
5. No fashion faux pas we make could ever rival the Speedo.
6. We don't have to pass gas to amuse ourselves.
7. If we forget to shave, no one has to know.
8. We can congratulate our teammate without ever touching her rear end.
9. We never have to reach down every so often to make sure our privates are still there.
10. We have the ability to dress ourselves.
11. We can talk to the opposite sex without having to picture them naked.
12. If we marry someone 20 years younger, we are aware that we will look like an idiot.
13. We will never regret piercing our ears.
14. There are times when chocolate really can solve all our problems.
15. We can make comments about how silly men are in their presence because they aren't listening anyway.

Jokes and Humor / He Went Fishing, I Went Boating
September 09, 2007, 11:59:46 AM
One morning the husband returns after several hours of fishing and decides
to take a nap. Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to
take the boat out. She motors out a short distance, anchors, and reads her
book.

Along comes a Game Warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and
says, "Good morning, ma'am. What are you doing?"

"Reading a book," she replies, (thinking, "Isn't that obvious?)"

"You are in a Restricted Fishing Area," he informs her. "I'm sorry,
officer, but I'm not fishing. I'm reading".

"Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any
moment. I'll have to take you in and write you up."

"If you do that, I'll have to charge you with sexual assault", says the
woman.

"But I haven't even touched you," says the Game Warden.

"That's true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could
start at any moment."

"Have a nice day ma'am", and he left.

Moral: Never argue with a woman who reads. It's likely she can also think.

Jokes and Humor / Politics
September 09, 2007, 11:57:02 AM
Whether Democrat or Republican, I think you'll get a kick out of this!

A little boy goes to his dad and asks, "What is Politics?"  Dad says, "Well son, let me try to explain it this way: I am the head of the family, so call me The President.  Your mother is the administrator of the money, so we call her the Government.  We are here to take care of your needs, so we will call you the People.  The nanny, we will consider her the Working Class.  And your baby brother, we will call him the Future.  Now think about that and see if it makes sense."

So the little boy goes off to bed thinking about what Dad has said.

Later that night, he hears his baby brother crying, so he gets up to check on him.  He finds that the baby has severely soiled his diaper. So the little boy goes to his parent's room and finds his mother asleep.  Not wanting to wake her, he goes to the nanny's room. Finding the door locked, he peeks in the keyhole and sees his father in bed with the nanny.  He gives up and goes back to bed.

The next morning, the little boy say's to his father, "Dad, I think I understand the concept of politics now."

The father says, "Good, son, tell me in your own words what you think politics is all about."

The little boy replies, "The President is screwing the Working Class while the Government is sound asleep. The People are being ignored and the Future is in deep s***."

Love Talk / The Mayonnaise Jar and Two Cups of Coffee
September 09, 2007, 10:21:03 AM

>When things in your lives seem almost too much to handle, when 24
hours
>in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of
>coffee.
>A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in
>front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very
large
>and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls . He
>then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.
>The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the
>jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas
>between the golf balls . He then asked the students again if the jar
was
>full. They agreed it was.
>The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.
>Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if
the
>jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous "yes."
>The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table
and
>poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty
>space between the sand . The students laughed.
>"Now," said the professor as the laughter subsided, "I want you to
>recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the
>important things--your family, your children, your health, your
friends
>and your favorite passions-- and if everything else was lost and only
>they remained, your life would still be full.
>The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house
>and your car.
>The sand is everything else--the small stuff . "If you put the sand
into
>the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the
>golf balls . The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and
>energy on the small stuff you will never have room ! for the things
that
>are important.
>"Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play
>with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your
spouse
>out to dinner. Play another 18 holes. There will always be time to
clean
>the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first
--the
>things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand
."
>
>One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee
>represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked.
>It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem,
>there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

Nope, I didn't see it, though I heard Rutgers won. I like those Navy boys baya. Hahahaha.

There's 9 minutes left in the 4th quarter, and the score is 16-6. Not good. tsk, tsk, tsk...

What do you think about Michigan dong? Started the season ranked 5th in the country, got beat by Appalachian U last week, got dropped from the rankings (worst upset in college football history), and then again, today lost to Oregon. Luoy pud. tsk, tsk, tsk

Ka nice sa article oi.

Naka dumdom bitaw ko sa una, at the height of Jordan's career with the bulls, gi interview ang iyang team mates, ingon sila tanan nga during their basketball camp, His Airness was the hardest working player. He stayed in the court shooting hoops long after everyone has left. Unya ingon pa ning iyang team mates, mao pud to'y naka encourage nila to do their best nga nakit-an nila si MJ, considered to be the best athlete that ever lived, nga grabe kaayo ang effort to make himself better. I even remember MJ saying that not a day went by that he didn't practice. And there lies the secret of personal excellence.  :)
