MOU Signing on DA's Food Markets and Terminal (Feb. 21, 2022)

Press Release: Agriculture Secretary William Dar signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the development of food market and terminal plans with KMV Asia Development Corporation and Banyara Development Corporation (BDC) Chief Executive Officer and Legal Representative Kaydee Marie Velasco on February 21, 2022.

The Department of Agriculture (DA), KMV Asia, and BDC's partnership aims at working on the DA's Food Markets and Terminal plans, providing advice and technical assistance in the design, and improving the policy and regulatory framework. Market and feasibility studies will also be conducted on the location options and possible partnerships with food market operators to ensure the program's sustainability.

The partnership is in line with the DA's effort to pursue various solutions in organizing and establishing receiving and processing facilities for the produce of farmers and fisherfolk, which will then be sold directly to consumers or vendors' associations. This will help maintain the freshness and quality of farm and fishery products, reduce postharvest losses, and increase the income of farmers and fisherfolk.

Food markets and food terminals, which may integrate processing and storage facilities, allow buyers and sellers of agricultural raw materials, products, and food to directly interact and facilitate exchange on wholesale.

DA Assistant Secretary for Strategic Communications and Spokesperson Noel Reyes and DA-Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) Director Reildrin Morales witnessed the partnership signing.

DILG PRESS RELEASE
PR Code No. 2022-02-21-01
February 21, 2022
DILG: PNP was just doing their jobs when they arrested Dr. Castro

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) today defended the police officers who served the warrant of arrest issued by the Bayugan City Regional Trial Court against Dr. Natividad Castro as it assured critics that all her rights under the law are respected.

DILG Secretary Eduardo M. Año said that the PNP was just performing their duties as agents of the court. "The PNP was just doing their jobs. Why gang up on them? This was not a warrantless arrest. The RTC issued a warrant and it's their duty to serve it," he said.

He said that RTC Judge Fernando Fudalan of Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 7 in Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur issued the warrant because she is facing criminal charges for kidnapping and serious illegal detention. "The basis of Castro's arrest by the PNP is a judicially issued warrant based on the criminal charges against her," he said.

He added that Castro is now in the custody of the court and is currently detained at the Bayugan City Police Station where her lawyers can visit her to prepare for her defense.

The DILG Chief slammed the baseless accusations of the Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG) that her rights were violated with impunity and that the charges against her were baseless. "FLAG, the National Union of People's Lawyers (NUPL) and other lawyers of Castro had every opportunity to quash the charges against her at the level of the City Prosecutor during the preliminary investigation and even with the court," he said.

"We wish to emphasize that the prosecutor found probable cause against her and resolved to file criminal charges with the RTC. The Presiding Judge also judicially determined that there was probable cause which is why he issued a warrant of arrest so that she can face the charges against her in court," he said.

He said that there were legal remedies available to Castro's lawyers every step of the way. "They could have challenged the prosecutor's findings and appealed it with the Department of Justice. Or if they wanted to challenge the warrant, they could have brought it to the Court of Appeals or even the Supreme Court. They just needed to be diligent and do their jobs instead of maligning the PNP, the judicial system and making a media circus out of this issue," he said.

Año said that FLAG, NUPL and others leftist groups should stop insulting the judiciary. "The fact that Castro was a cum laude graduate of UP Manila and valedictorian at St. Scholastica does not exempt her from the coverage of our laws. No one is above the law," he added.

He emphasized that she was arrested because of the criminal charges against her and not because she is the head of the National Health Bureau of the CPP-NPA-NDF which has been declared a terrorist organization by the Anti-Terrorism Council, the US, EU, and other countries.

He said that the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) is welcome to investigate the case but he lamented the zeal of the CHR to prejudge the PNP. "The CHR is supposed to be impartial, fair and unbiased. But why did it immediately conclude that Castro was red-tagged for being a human rights and development worker?"

"While the CHR immediately acts on complaints against the PNP, it is unfortunately silent on the series of killings perpetrated by the CPP-NPA like the incidents in Negros Island during the past few days where they claimed responsibility for the killings of at least 4 civilians and the wounding of five police officers, or their continued use of banned anti-personnel mines," he said.

Now that the cases are with the court, Año called on all parties to allow the judicial processes to proceed and take its rightful course. "Castro will be entitled to every legal remedy available in her defense. She already has a battery of top notch lawyers, as you can see," he said.###

Press Release Philippines / Blackmail by Ex-lover
February 20, 2022, 07:51:03 PM
COPS FOIL P1-M SEX SCANDAL BLACKMAIL TRY BY EX-LOVER

The PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group Women and Children Cybercrime Protection Unit (WCCPU), in coordination with the Southern Police District, arrested a 30-year-old male suspect for extorting cash amounting to P1 million from a former lover.

Police report reveals that the suspect was blackmailing the lady victim by exposing their photos and sex videos online.

The suspect, Jerson Pantaleon, was nabbed in an entrapment operation in Taguig City on February 17, for violation of Republic Act 9262 or the Violence Against Women and Children and Robbery Extortion in relation to Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

The complaint came from his 60-year-old ex-girlfriend who sought police intervention regarding the actions of the suspect.

In order to mislead the victim from thinking that he was the person behind the said extortion, the suspect created a fictitious person and sent out extortion messages to himself using a different sim card number to make it appear that he too, was being extorted.

"As the report shows, the suspect tried to deceive the victim but due to the technical capability of our personnel, they were able to trace the suspect and outsmarted him. The landscape of criminality has been extending to the internet or technology at large, so we have to double our efforts in learning the ropes," PNP Chief General Dionardo Carlos said while emphasizing how the organization should embrace advanced strategies in preventing crimes.

DAREDEVIL ANGELS OF MERCY IN AFRICA

CAPTAIN RODOLFO "RUDY" F PETICAN had a long and satisfying career as a C-130 transport pilot in the Philippine Air Force (PAF) and the civilian sector.

Originally from Baguio City, Capt. Rudy graduated from Baguio Colleges Foundation. He first joined the Philippine Air Force after he graduated from the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) as a member of class 1975 and later got his military pilot's wings after graduated as a member of class 1976B from the Philippine Air Force Flying School (PAFFS) in Lipa City, Batangas.

He served for 13 years with the 220th Airlift Wing at Mactan flying C-130 transports ferrying troops and supplies all over the Philippines.

"We stayed at Mactan Air Base after our marriage from 1981-1988," said his wife Rosie Docdocil-Petican, a lumad Kagay-anon. "We settled back in Cagayan de Oro in 1988 when Rudy was already hired by TransAfrik based in Angola, Africa."

He next worked for Philippine Air Lines flying the Hawker Siddeley HS-748 aircraft, then went on to help Aboitiz Air Cargo organize their C-130 fleet operations.

TransAfrik is a private airfreight company owned by a German national that specialized in ferrying supplies to risky combat zones in Africa. For many years it has performed relief flights for relief organizations such as Caritas, Red Cross, UNICEF, Lutheran World Federation and Care International.

It has also conducted several refugee evacuations (including logistics supplies and medical evacuations) from war zones in co-ordination with humanitarian organizations, as well as various world-wide operations for United Nations Forces (i.e. UNAVEM 1 & 2, MONUA in Angola, UNSCOM in Somalia, UNTAC in Cambodia and now MONUC in Congo). Many of these operations have involved logistic supplies and medical evacuations.

Initially, TransAfrik employed six Filipinos including Capt. Petican as pilots of the C-130 aircraft of a diamond mine company ferrying supplies from Luanda, capital of Angola to diamond mines in Cafunto and Dundo.

The first Filipino pilot to perish during TransAfrik's operations was Chief Pilot Ramon Dumlao who previously worked with the Philippine Aerospace Development Company (PADC) whose C-130 aircraft crashed while ferrying supplies over an area controlled by Angolan UNITA rebels.

TransAfrik expanded their operations later on after the United Nations contracted them to ferry supplies in various African countries. The fleet expansion started with the acquisition of a C-130 from South Africa eventually reaching a fleet of fifteen C-130s and seven Boeing 727s at the height of the company's operations from 1988 to 1997.

Capt. Petican who was now Director of Operations coordinated the fleet supported by eighteen Filipino pilots, and other flight crew together with pilots from other countries.

TransAfrik's operations under the United Nations were wide ranging from Cambodia to Africa and in the Middle East through Mosul in Kurdistan, Tajikistan, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

TransAfrik's pilots airlifted foreign nationals including French expatriates out of Brazzaville in 1995, during the civil war in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Then in 1998, during the infamous Rwandan genocide and civil war, French and Belgian nationals were evacuated from Kigali, capital of Rwanda.

In 1993, they also air-dropped food supplies over Somalia and Southern Sudan during the great famine and conflict in the East African area.

They even ferried a Somalian warlord during the peace negotiations. TransAfrik's operations went as far as East Africa in Uganda and Tanzania.

TransAfrik suffered its greatest personnel loss ferrying supplies and personnel during their high-risk operations in Afghanistan while subjected to Taliban anti-aircraft fire.

During one trip in October 2010, a C-130 crashed near Kabul after it slammed into a mountainside killing 6 Filipinos onboard including retired Major General Rene Badilla (PMA class 1975) of the 220th Heavy Airlift Wing, Captain Henry Bulos, and crewmembers, Nilo Medina and Wilo Elbanbuena.

Capt. Petican himself evacuated five ABS-CBN news reporters from Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan. He recounted that due to intense rebel fire, they had to use a tight spiral descent in order to land at Bagram Air Base near Kabul.

Another route they used to carry food supplies took them from Islamabad, Pakistan to the Republic of Tajikistan. Capt. These are only among the reasons we decided to invest and develop the 140-hectare Maple Grove township, which we envision to be Cavite's very own central business district that hearkens to Makati.

This modern, eco-friendly township will soon be home to a mix of commercial, residential and office developments, and a greenhouse-inspired Megaworld Lifestyle Mall. 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗚𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗡𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗢𝗙 𝗕𝗢𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗔𝗡 𝗢𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗘𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗞 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗧𝗦

Press Release: On Monday, February 14, the City Government of Borongan convened different offices for a coordination meeting to address concerns involving the rising prices of commodities in the city. The meeting was attended by the City Agricultural Office, the City Veterinary Office, the Borongan City Public Market Office, City Information Office, the City Cooperative Office, as well as various stakeholders and constituents.

During the meeting, the main issue discussed was the price increase of meat products in the market. Consumers raised complaints of the price of pork hitting PHP 300 per kilo. In defense, pork sellers noted that the reason behind the increase is the lack of pig supply. Due to this, vendors struggle to get a low 'live weight' buying price – that is, when pigs are weighed before being slaughtered – due to competition from buyers from outside the city.

"Noon tag-PHP 150 'yung live weight, PHP 280 per kilo ng karne 'yung pagtinda namin. Ngayong PHP 180 na ang live weight, tinaas namin ng PHP 300 per kilo para hindi naman kami lugi," a pork seller from Borongan City Market explained.

However, hog raisers countered that meat vendors buy 'live weight' at PHP 150 per kilo, not PHP 180. Moreover, data show that Borongan City Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda's Dukwag Agrikultura program helped achieve swine sufficiency as early as November 2021. This means that Borongan City is self-sufficient in pork production. Of all the pigs raised in Borongan, 60% is supplied to the city while 40% is bought by traders to be sold in nearby municipalities. Thus, it is clear that there is no pork shortage in Borongan City and the rising prices are both unreasonable and unnecessary.

The following steps were agreed upon by concerned offices to further drill down to the root cause of this issue and resolve it with utmost urgency:

1. The City Public Market Office headed by Napoleon Bebita will conduct a public forum to be attended by the city public market vendors, hog farmers, and consumers to discuss the pricing system of commodities in the market. This dialog aims to answer why the price of commodities are high. This will also ensure that traders, producers and vendors are publicly transparent with their pricing processes.

2. The immediate solution for the city is to provide an opportunity for hog raisers and agriculture producers in the Tabuan every Saturday. This will allow registered Borongan City farmers to directly sell their products without the need for middlemen.

3. In the long run, the City Government led by the City Agriculture head Macario Gabornes and City Cooperative Office head Jojito Acla will assist Dukwag Agrikultura producers to organize and form a cooperative that will empower them with the needed entrepreneurial skills to bolster their capacity to market their own products at a reasonable price. This is seen as a big win for both producers and consumers.

4. The Borongan City Veterinary Office is also set to launch one of the best slaughterhouses in the region by the 2nd quarter of 2022. This will help modernize meat production in the city, making it more efficient and safe for public consumption.

5. The city will mobilize its concerned agencies to continue monitoring the price of basic commodities, and ensure that the consuming public is not being taken advantage of.

Dukwag Agrikultura seeks to support the backbone of food security frontliners in the city, most especially our farmers. The implementation of this program is guided by an inclusive principle to benefit not just our farmers but also consumers who are continuously affected by the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. For this reason, we appeal to our fellow Boronganons to contribute in creating an environment of free trade and commerce that is equitable to all residents.

Rest assured that the City Government will not stop until we get to the bottom of this issue. A thorough inquiry will be conducted and all the resources of the City Government will be used to enforce existing ordinances and national laws to create a better environment for local consumers and producers. The traders and market vendors will be given the opportunity to explain to the public the reason for their pricing, especially in the context of prevailing circumstances in Borongan. The City Government is prepared to present it's data in the upcoming public forum. In the meantime, the City Government will create more programs to empower food producers to become successful entrepreneurs in their own right, eventually providing them the facilities and skills they need to sell their own products.

Bible Study / Grace of God in John 1:17
February 15, 2022, 03:07:12 PM
John 1:17
grace

Grace. Summary:

(1) Grace is "the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man. . . not by works of righteousness which we have done" Titus 3:4; Titus 3:5 (refs2).

It is, therefore, constantly set in contrast to law, under which God demands righteousness from man, as, under grace, he gives righteousness to man Rom 3:21; Rom 3:22; 8:4; Philemon 3:9 (refs5). Law is connected with Moses and works; grace with Christ and faith ; John 1:17; Romans 10:4-10 (refs2). Law blesses the good; grace saves the bad ; Exodus 19:5; Ephesians 2:1-9 (refs2). Law demands that blessings be earned; grace is a free gift ; Deuteronomy 28:1-6; Ephesians 2:8; Rom 4:4; Rom 4:5 (refs4).

(2) As a dispensation, grace begins with the death and resurrection of Christ Romans 3:24-26 Rom 4:24; Rom 4:25 (refs3). The point of testing is no longer legal obedience as the condition of salvation, but acceptance or rejection of Christ, with good works as a fruit of salvation, ; John 1:12; John 1:13; 3:36; Matthew 21:37; 22:24; John 15:22; John 15:25; Hebrews 1:2; 1 John 5:10-12 (refs9). The immediate result of this testing was the rejection of Christ by the Jews, and His crucifixion by Jew and Gentile Acts 4:27. The predicted end of the testing of man under grace is the apostasy of the professing church: See "Apostasy" (See Scofield "2 Timothy 3:1") 2 Timothy 3:1-8 and the resultant apocalyptic judgments.

(3) Grace has a twofold manifestation: in salvation Romans 3:24 and in the walk and service of the saved Romans 6:15.

See, for the other six dispensations:

Innocence, (See Scofield "Genesis 1:28")

Conscience, (See Scofield "Genesis 3:23")

Human Government, (See Scofield "Genesis 8:21")

Promise, (See Scofield "Genesis 12:1")

Law, (See Scofield "Exodus 19:8")

Kingdom, (See Scofield "Ephesians 1:10") .

MARINA Press Release
14 February 2022

MARINA issues STCW Certificates online; mulls granting 50% discount on cost of seafarer certificates

MANILA - As part of the Agency's continuing enhancement of its services to Filipino seafarers, as well as the intensification of the use of available technology, the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) will commence on 15 February 2022 the issuance online certificates for seafarers under the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) for seafarers 1978, as amended.

MARINA Administrator VADM Robert A Empedrad AFP (Ret) said that seafarers do not need to claim physically at the MARINA their STCW certificates anymore, particularly Certificates of Proficiency (COPs) and Certificates of Competency (COCs), as they will be sent to their respective MISMO Accounts. These certificates have QR codes and they could easily be verified online.

Pursuant to MARINA Advisory 2022-08, here are the additional guidelines on the application and issuance of STCW Certificates:

Effective 15 February 2022, approved applications for the issuance of STCW certificates will be released through MISMO accounts of seafarers after receipt of corresponding payment of fees.

These certificates can be printed on an A4 size bond paper. There is no need to affix the dry seal of the MARINA.

Each COP or COC issuance shall be designated with a unique QR Code. Verification as to their authenticity may be done through the MARINA verification portal. Verifiers only need to input the serial number of the said certificate.

Guidelines for the verification of the authenticity of STCWO issued certificates are spelled out in MARINA Advisory No. 2021-65.

Meanwhile, effective 01 April 2022, personal appearance for regular application for the issuance of COPs and COCs is not required anymore, except on instances where submitted documents need to be clarified and the processing of Expedite Applications.

STCWO Executive Director VADM Rene V Medina AFP (Ret) said that these developments are MARINA's little gesture of allowing our seafarers have more time to spend their short vacation ashore with their loved ones.

In a related development, the MARINA is mulling reducing cost up to 50% of the issuance of COPs and COCs to mitigate the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the onslaught of recent calamities that devastated parts of the Visayas and Mindanao Regions. This proposal will be submitted to the MARINA Board for its consideration during its next meeting this February.

General Topic / DDS Duterte Diehard Supporters
February 15, 2022, 08:08:38 AM
By Now You Know
"Dili tanang Dabawenyo DDS" (Not all Dabawenyos are DDS), the Davao for Leni Movement asserts on its Facebook page that has now at least 32,000 followers. DDS refers to "Diehard Duterte Supporters," the name appropriated by supporters of Duterte during the election campaign for the Presidential elections in 2016, to change the meaning of the initials associated with the Davao Death Squad which was blamed for the killing of suspected drug users and pushers during Duterte's bloody war against illegal drugs in the city.

In the afternoon after the motorcade, about 15 youth volunteers would be harassed by an intruder who managed to get inside their volunteers' center and who berated them for allegedly being misguided and paid and should not be tolerated in the city. "In response to his verbal attacks we asserted and responded that Davao is not owned by any one group or family and that Davaoeños are respectful and are law-abiding people. We believe that Davaoeños welcome ideas which may not be always aligned with those of others. Davao is home to diverse people with diverse beliefs. It is a place for radical love," the Davao Youth for Leni said in a statement.

Wednesday's motorcade brought together individuals and organizations from various sectors and generations – women, students, martial law survivors, entrepreneurs, laborers, professionals, religious, members of party list groups including Akbayan and the Makabayan bloc, the youth – still a tiny minority in a city of 1.78 million – but significant in the city's long history of resistance. |via Mindanews

Talk of the Town / Toni Gonzaga Controversy
February 15, 2022, 07:39:38 AM
CANCEL the CANCEL CULTURE
By DOTr Asec Hope Libiran
It has been quite a very challenging past few weeks for me, and I can very well relate even in social media where the toxicity level has been off the charts!

My friend, Direk Paul Soriano, and his very popular spouse, Toni Gonzaga, have been the subject of so many vile posts, memes and are even being cancelled out, all because they have  made known publicly who their preference is in politics.

It is so unfair to the couple. This cancel culture, mostly propagated by the supporters of one presidential candidate, has really gone too far. Why can't there be more respect and less hate? Why devalue a person just because of politics?

This presidential candidate's supporters are claiming to be defenders of democracy, and yet they call to cancel Direk Paul and Toni for their political preference.

Direk Paul and Toni made their choice, and their choice is protected by the same constitution these cancel culture advocates are breathing. The irony. The hypocrisy.

I have been friends with Direk Paul for more than a decade, and I can personally attest to his kindness, hardwork and humility. Never will I waver  in my trust and confidence in him just because of misguided attacks against his character and choice.

I myself have also been the recent subject of hate and venomous postings, when I tried to utilize social media to seek justice against a felony committed against me and my household.

I really believed that my decision to use social media as an avenue to go after the person who stole valuables from me was really proper, most especially in the context of urgency and speedy capture of the culprit.

However, there are elements in our society who pounced on me, laughed at me, and heavily politicized the issue, only because I have been identified as, according to a number of"educated" cancel culture advocates, a "certified DDS and a Marcos apologist". It is lamentable to say the the least, and it made me realize how far we have gone as netizens. It made me reflect on the very thin ice we are skating between responsible blogging against damaging the psyche and reputation of our subject.

This experience has really shaken my foundation on values and respect. And this "cancel culture" promoting hate, indignity and vile to those who do not subscribe to their politics, is really abhorrent and detestable. It is divisive. It is destructive of relationships.

Is it really worth the toxicity? And is this the kind of culture that we want our children to witness and experience themselves? Do we want them to grow up in this kind of environment? Think.

But through it all, I still believe that there will always be that innate goodness in humanity.

As toxic as it was, I still felt the love and support of the people who matter most. And I am comforted by the fact that my work, and that of my team in government, have been recognized and appreciated by so many as instrumental in communicating what the Duterte Administration has really accomplished for the Filipino people and the nation.

Like Direk Paul and Toni, I humbly accept that detractors and haters will continue to distract and hate, but they are part and parcel of the life we have chosen.

And I remain on solid footing, trusting that this storm shall come to pass, and that what we achieved in government and public service is what really is considered important and cherished by many.

Life, indeed, is full of challenges, heartbreaks and negativity. It is the cruel and sad reality, but it is also what makes it more colorful, exciting and vibrant, if we deal with it in the manner that would make us rise above it all.

After all, my name is Hope, and whatever does not kill or silence me, makes me stronger!

Breakingviews - One reason U.S. healthcare is so financially dysfunctional is that a patient on the operating table rarely questions the cost of saving their life. That's especially true when an insurer or the government is paying the bill. The same principle has informed the pricing of Covid-19 vaccines and tests. Retailers like CVS Health and Walgreens Boots Alliance performed a public good on the front line while pocketing a sizeable private profit. - Reuters

Statement of the De La Salle Brothers of the Taft Community
(1911 Brothers Community)

Last year, on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, the De La Salle Brothers of the Philippines issued a statement, Discerning our Future: The 2022 Elections.

The statement hopes to serve as a guide for Filipino voters in assessing the individuals and parties that are vying for elective positions in the May 9, 2022 elections.

As the statement stressed, it is important for the new set of leaders to propose a vision that can unite the people in pursuit of the common good.

The next set of leaders should also have the moral integrity needed to command the trust of citizens and civil society.

Finally, the statement underscored that our future leaders should have a clear record of empowering the disempowered, underserved, and we may add, under-represented sectors of Philippine society.

The December 8, 2021 statement also posed a number of questions that voters, including us De La Salle Brothers, should reflect on as we assess the candidates for the 2022 elections, most especially those vying for the presidency and the vice-presidency.

These top two positions are the most critical as these leaders will be the ones to steer our nation not only towards economic recovery but more importantly, promote, respect, and fulfill democratic values and human rights such as freedom of speech, equality before the law, social justice among other things.

Our next president and vice-president should uphold the truth and combat mechanisms of disinformation and misinformation that have masked the tainted record and twisted motivations of individuals and groups who have propelled falsehoods or fake news.

In our collective discernment, the De La Salle Brothers of the Taft Community (1911 Brothers Community) unanimously agreed that the tandem that has unceasingly defended our fundamental liberties and who continue to work in solidarity with those who empower and improve the plight of the poor and vulnerable sectors is the partnership of Leni Robredo and Kiko Pangilinan.

Moreover, the Robredo-Pangilinan team presents the clearest and most feasible plan to uplift the condition and empower every Filipino, especially those most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

For these reasons, we express our support for their candidacy.

In no way should this articulation of support for Robredo and Pangilinan be construed as representative of the stand of the schools that we serve.

Our schools and universities will remain open spaces where our staff, students, and other internal and external stakeholders, are free to express their own voting preferences.

If you are for LENI, Go!
If you want BBM, no problem!
If you will vote for ISKO or PING, sige lang!
If you think PACQUIAO is the right choice, that's OK!

Just don't call people BOBO, TANGA or MAKIKITID UTAK just because you have a dissenting opinion.
Let the majority decide.
Go out and vote on election day.
At the end of the day, we Filipinos deserve the best service.

Tawag diyan RESPETO.

Don't be a diehard fan. After election, kanya kanyang kayod pa rin tayo para sa pamilya. Hindi nila tayo kilala.

SWS survey: Marcos gains, maintains overwhelming lead over other candidates

BARELY 11 weeks before the Filipino voters decide who would be the country's next leader, polling firm Social Weather Station (SWS) came out with its latest survey results showing presidential candidate Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. still dominating the ratings and stamping his mark on the presidential race towards the May 2022 elections.

The latest SWS commissioned survey conducted from January 28 to 31 showed that Marcos enjoys a firm grip on the top spot and has even gained +7% net after increasing his numbers from 43% in October 2021 to 50% in January 2022.

At far second is Leni Robredo, who has only 19% to show, Francisco Domagoso Moreno and Manny Pacquiao were tied for 3rd and 4th respectively with 11% each, while Panfilo Lacson has 6%.

The rest of the presidential bets are lagging at the tail-end and struggling to gain respectable numbers.

Robredo recorded 20% in October but plunged down to 19% in January, which reflected a -1% fall.

In another SWS survey, Robredo's net satisfaction rating also dropped drastically from 24% to just 1%, the lowest among government officials.

Considering the margin of error, it is understandable that there have been minimal changes in the results of the ratings of all the presidential candidates regardless of the movement of their respective numbers.

Political analysts said that Marcos' numbers reflect strong ground support, "which seems unshakable in the run-off to the May elections."

All reputable survey firms have recorded similar trends, but at least a couple of poll results from independent groups – Laylo Research Strategies and Tangere – showed that Marcos is even leading in Robredo's traditional bailiwick, the Bicol Region.

Laylo's result in Bicol from its January 2022 survey had Marcos leading with 51% as compared to Robredo's 33%.

Marcos actually padded his lead from its November 2021 survey in the region, where he registered 45% against Robredo's 29%.

Meanwhile, in a January 2022 survey conducted by Tangere, the country's biggest online market research panel, Marcos led all presidential candidates in Bicol with 45.27% voters' preference as compared to Robredo's 25.57%.

Results from the nationwide Kalye Survey results put Marcos on top with his 60.30 percent, while Robredo barely scratched the surface with her 9.77%.

One of our immediate goals in San Miguel is to create places and opportunities that will enable people in communities we serve, to lead better lives. This is why we have committed to build a P50-million sports complex in Balayan, Batangas as a venue for people -- especially the youth -- to stay active and engage in sports, when it becomes safe to do so. Ultimately, the facility can be used to help develop local athletes and those who have the talent but lack access to sports infrastructure in and around the province. Thank you Mayor JR Fronda, for your support to our initiative. To the people of Balayan, rest assured, we are with you on this. Together, we will continue to strive to help build a bright and healthy future for all!

Philippine Government / Manny Piñol's Legislative Agenda
February 09, 2022, 01:32:35 PM
A healthy, strong nation! By Manny Piñol
"Let The Small Voices
Be Heard In The Senate!"

Due to the limited time given to Senatorial candidates to speak during our proclamation rally last night, I was not able to enumerate the various legislative advocacies which I intend to introduce in the Senate.

Let me emphasize that the proposed legislations which I am presenting here, did not come from a group of paid consultants but from deep inside my mind and my heart.

These are products of my engagements with the people whose voices had not been heard and also from my experiences as a poor farm boy who grew to manhood during the most difficult times.

Immediate Legislative Reforms:

1. On Day 1 in the Senate, Review and Amend the Rice Tariffication Law to protect both consumers and the rice farmers from price manipulations and truly boost the rice industry.

2. Reform the Agricultural and Food Marketing System by expanding and strengthening existing government agencies like the National Food Authority and the Food Terminal Inc. to establish government-operated Food Consolidation Centers in the production areas and Food Outlets in major urban centers to reduce the involvement of middlemen and dicers in the marketing and trading of basic food items. This will provide producers a bigger income while ensuring consumers of fresh and affordable food. The NFA mandate should be expanded to assume the role of a marketing agency for the country's agricultural export commodities, especially Cavendish Banana, Coconut products, Fruits and Aqua-Marine products.

3. Review policies and legislations providing undue advantage to imported food products over those produced locally, especially on rice, pork, chicken, fish and others which adversely affect local producers.

Institutional Legislative Agenda:

1. Introduce a 10-Year National Greening Program under a multi-agency authority which would shift from just tree planting to tree farming following the successful models of Finland, France and others.

2. Establish a multi-agency National Water Conservation and Management Authority to manage our water resources both for household and agricultural uses.

3. Review, Amend and Update the Agri-Agra Law, including the National Fisheries Code, using science-based data and exhaustive consultative processes engaging stakeholders nationwide.

4. Establish an Agricultural Credit Facility, e.g. Bank for Agriculture and Fisheries, which would provide the country's food and agriculture producers easy access to credit with low interest rates especially for major food production investments, a role which had been abandoned by the Land Bank of the Philippines.

5. Introduce a 10-year Food Production Infrastructure Program to undertake the implementation and completion of key infrastructure projects like the 12,000-kilometer Farm-To-Market Road backlog, rural bridges, Fish Ports complete with post-harvest facilities and Solar-Powered and small irrigation facilities.

6. Introduce a 5-Year National Fisheries and Aquaculture Development Program with the goal of attaining Fish Sufficiency within the period through the establishment of at least three major National Hatcheries and financial incentives for investors in Aqua-Marine production, especially in Fish Cage Farming.

7. Establish a Local Industries Development Authority (LINDA) which would provide support and incentives to pioneering industries which would utilize local resources and create jobs e.g. Steel Processing Industry, Wood Processing Industry, Bamboo Processing Industry, Food Processing Industry and others especially those initiated by farmers and fishermen's cooperatives or associations.

8. Establish Agro-Industrial Parks for the production of hogs, poultry and livestock to be located in areas where major raw materials for feeds and silage are grown. This would resolve the conflict arising from the presence of these farms in population centers and provide bio-security protection to the hogs, poultry and livestock.

9. In anticipation of the greater demand for power for the massive agro-industrial activities for food production, reforms in laws covering power generation must be introduced, including providing greater autonomy to electric cooperatives  and local government units in investing in and operating energy-generation projects, like hydros, solar farms and even wind farms.

10. Craft a 10-Year Nutrition-based Food Production Program where producers of food items which would lower malnutrition are provided with financial incentives like No-Interest production loans and a ready market with fair prices. This program could very well be implemented through the Regional Food Consolidation Centers which would guide the farmers on what to produce based on the nutritional requirements of the people. This in the long run would boost agricultural production, create more jobs while at the same time, address malnutrition in the country and pave the way to a generation of healthy Filipinos.

All of these dreams could be realized if we abandon money and personality-based politics and decide once and for all that we would like to build a better future for our children.

Anonymous Diary Blog / Genia Pig or Rat
February 04, 2022, 06:27:57 AM
Copied from Facebook: After the storm all rats disappeared from our house except one brownish rat who behave quite differently from other big rats I've  seen in the past. Aside from its unusually distinct brown color, its size is twice bigger than the biggest rat I have captured in my mouse trap. Yesterday, this rat touched my heart. I was at the terrace when suddenly that lone huge rat crossed the terrace  towards the door. Its pace was slower compared to other rats. When its body almost contacted my feet I drove the rat away but it stopped running and surprisingly turned its head to me. Not content, the rat turned its whole body and looked at my face. We have an eye to eye contact for over thirty seconds and I began to recognize that it was not a rat. It was the genia pig I gave to my son many years ago as a gift when he was still 9 or ten years old. We set the genia pig free when somebody convinced our mother that genia bites were extremely dangerous. Though it gained extra weight over the past 10 or15 years, yet I can still recall the structure of its face, its stares though not anymore benign having adopted the behaviour of some rats and other nocturnal creatures yet I can still identify that it was the genia pig my son and I tended for over six months . We even gave it a name I cannot anymore remember. It was our genia pig and it is alive. I felt guilty of setting it free and leaving it all alone to its own devises. I  was about to hold it when suddenly my dog bark and shocked the genia pig and it disappeared. After that, memories glided in the screen of my mind ,  that very moment it ran towards the bushes when my son set it free. My thoughts receded in the early years  when my son was still  young and me with few crowns of gray hairs on my head then.  Myriad memories galloped into my mind and the cascading thoughts had crushed both laughter and pain in a brief moment. It is not good to be sentimental these days so I rose up and said to myself " It was not the genia pig. It was just a rat.

Remember your Children are not your Retirement Fund.
Be Financially Independent.. Do not RELY on your children.

Plan for your future and retirement and only have children that you can afford.

Your Children will help you if they really want to (unconditionally).
Do not pressure or give an obligation to your children a responsibility that you yourself are not able to establish.

While our children can help us, it should be done voluntarily and not as an obligation. By then, our children will have their own families to look after. We owe it to ourselves to maintain our DIGNITY despite sickness and old age.

Remember
As children, you do it out of gratitude not obligation...
As parents, you receive with gratitude rather than entitlement...

Stop the cycle. Stop this toxic Filipino culture.

As Elon Musk said: "My children didn't choose to be born, I chose to have children. They owe me nothing, I owe them everything."

Sometimes it can seem that Christians are standing on unsteady ground. While the world seeks to dismantle the foundations of our faith, compromise threatens the church from within. In times of turmoil, Scripture reminds us where our true security lies: in our sovereign God, whose throne can never be moved.

Join us on May 13–14, 2022, for If the Foundations Are Destroyed, our conference in Escondido, California. W. Robert Godfrey, Christopher Gordon, Burk Parsons, and Derek Thomas will encourage us to stand firm in unsteady times, taking refuge in the Lord as the indestructible foundation of our hope. Register today to receive the early-bird registration rate.

CONFERENCE SESSIONS:

The Lord Our Refuge by Derek Thomas
When the Foundations Are Destroyed by W. Robert Godfrey
The Lord on His Throne Sees by Burk Parsons
