Questioning one's faith is natural, as we are all fallen. We question because we are tempted by the great serpent, the great protester, the great accusor of Our Lord God. The Devil. As we are tempted to sin by his legions of devils and demons, so does he also try to make us question our own faith and tempt us to leave our own solidified ground--one that we have in Chruch, its teachings, and in reading scripture to solidfy church teachings.

My priest always tells me me, "Always, Always, Always, pray. Pray on your knees, when you start to question, pray harder."

You will notice that questioning comes and goes. Like a whisper. It comes and goes. It is of the devil to question the teachings we are taught by the Church and the message we are given through Scripture and Tradition.

Everything in this material world is PLASTIC. Nothing is permanent. Things come and go, rise and fall, fade away. The only thing that is true, solid, unchanging is the message of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Bible Study / Re: Donating to Church and Shopping
February 26, 2009, 10:59:33 PM
There is a beautiful verse in scripture that addreses this very topic.

It is found in the 12th Chapter of Mark, verses 41 to 44.

"Jesus sat down opposite the treasury and observed how the crowd put money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents. Calling his disciples to himself, Jesus said, "AMEN, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury. For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood."

(you can find this in Mark 12: 41-44)

This verse is so beautiful, ang Ginoo dili man jud na siya buta. All knowing, all surpassing iyang Love ug iyang understanding. Matters not how much we contribute, but the meaning of it is given and addressed. The intent is made known to Our Lord.

So worry not on who donates who, or what, and don't be so concerned on what your brother does or gives with his own money. For he or she, according to his own works--as with faith--will rightly and justly receive judgment from God.

Bible Study / Re: Reading the Bible and Reading a Novel

The Holy Bible solidifies Sacred Tradition. The one complements the other. When we go to mass, when we take part of the Sacraments, it is all correlated in verse in Scriptures. Scripture also is strengthened and its message solidifed in Sacred Tradition. One in which The Holy Roman Catholic Church has tookpart since the very beginning. Since days of Early Church Fathers. Since before the Holy Bible was compiled.

That is why Sacred Scripture solidifies and complements Sacred Tradition.

The bible is life for the soul, and blood and meat for the marrow of bone. I read it, whenever I have time. When I have a hard day, I go straight to the Psalms. David's words are beautiful prayers.

That being said,

I reiterate again:

Again,

For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.
(Hebrews 6:4-6)

For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.

Bem, all dads are good dads. They just express their love differently. Diba?

Daddy is very emotional, dili lang siya open to show it. Sa una, dili na siya mo say, 'I love you' but as we got older, he says it more often. Or mo show siya--very obvious.

I think ing ana man jud na ang Filipino Dads. B/c when i grew up, Kiams, i would go to my friends houses (white, black, latin) etc and notice that American dads are very vocal about their concern to their kids. They hug their kids openly, say things like, "I love you" very frequently. And the kids say it back. And for a Fil-AM growing up in the 'states, it was hard because one I had to adapt and grow into the society in the 'states and yet at the same time when i went back home, lived in a very traditional Filipino (BISAYAN) household. Were english was spoken outside--but inside the house--we spoke only bisaya.

I asked my mom about this before--why does daddy not say 'I love you' openly?

Ingoon ahong inahan, "Ayaw ka think that your Daddy doesn't love you because he doesn't say it openly as sa amahan sa imung amigong puti. Ginigugma mo tanan iyang anak. So proud is your dad of all of you--his kids. Dili na siya mo show nimo, pero sa work place, he cannot stop talking about you kids. Your Dad loves you, even if you think he does not show it--he loves you so much"

Mao na--when I heard this--i came to terms with the cultural divide. Yes I am American and live in the American way of life--but also I realized that indeed i cannot separate myself form my Filipino culture--which my parents still live in. And in the end, when we come to terms with this reality--we can better appreciate our parents, our fathers for who they are. And what they are.

Bem, Am very sure your dad loves you very much. Of course. You are his baby girl.
Sure ko ana.

LOL! Ask Ate Ethyl ;)

You know I asked my friends why docs write like that. Then i realize that the answer lay in class. When we go to class, we have to write fast as our professors talk fast, and give info like a speeding bullet.

In 2 semesters time, I have already begun to understand 'illegible writing'

Sometimes galing, instead of writing sentences, we write partial sentences that only we can understand. Us acronyms.

Example lang:

The patient who came in the Emergency room was suffering from Refractory shock, had a BP that was below 120/80. Was unconscious, and bleeding; later diagnosis indicates cerebral ischemia, reduced cardiac output despite cardiotonic drugs indicates minimalizaton of heart. Pure Blood plasma has been initiated, but due to free radicals accumulation, stagnation of blood continues due to precapillary spastic activity. Prognisis is bleak. Patient given palliative treatment. Talk to family about onset.

Our professor would say this to us out loud, and we would write this out. So we develop techniques in writing fast. One can write really sloppy (which sometimes i do), that or use partial sentences that no one else beside the doc can understand;

this is how we would re-write this:

Uncon pat-ER: Suffering-REFSHOK. BP<120/80.
uncon pat-bleed; cerebisch. Low CO. Digitalis/Cardiotonic no show.
Transfusion started; positive feedback. Stangation freerad
Palliative-Patient.

Kiams,

When our mother told us about the things our Daddy would do for us when we were babies, we laughed and thought she was kidding around. Pero tinuud man diay.

Ning ask mi ni Dad, 'Dad why did you do that? Wasn't it disgusting?'

Ingoon pood siya, "Ah, ug dili imung anak, dili gud. Pero kamo man ahong anak. You come from me. Kinsa man di mo sipsip ang siponon sa anak?"

Na kuratan jud ko  to hear that. That defines a man. And most of all, A Father.

Aahahahaha!

I know from first-hand experience. For 10 years I hiluted my dad. When I went off to college, my younger brother Don Rico took my place. hahaha. Now, Dad has trained Andre to hilut him also. LOL!

Pero you know, I notice that we boys have growed and bonded with our Dad because of the Hilut.

Afterall, we should care for our ginikanans, diba? I mean, he is the man that sucked our clogged sip-onon when we were still young--and could not breath. He did that to me, my sister, and my younger brothers.

Mao na i tell my brothers--better we hilut our Dad and show him Love b/c he sucked our siponon when we were but babies. Luuy pood among Amahan kai na siponon pood siya sa process. lol.

Note,

let us not attack Machisimo. There is nothing wrong with Machisimo. I myself would subscribe to this concept (lol). However, being macho-macho does not mean one can forgoe his duties to his wife, spouse, partner, family.

You can be macho-macho at the same time be humble and work--cook food, clean the house, hilut your wife, (and make babies, lol)

The point is, it is all about courtesy and common respect.

Machismo is fine and okay. So long as you also have self respect as well as outward respect. Mao na ang differensya.

It's not only about "Pre, Pre, Pre, inum ta Pre"

But it is also about, "Mahal, gusto ba ka ug help? Mahal, unsa man gusto nimo i-kanun? Mo luto sad ko ha?"

That is more macho-macho than chugging down a San Miguel Beer or two. IMHO

Datu,

My uncle, who is a Medical Doctor (Internal Medicine) and is in UK with my Aunt--is very humble in regard to this situation. He not only cooks, but takes care of his daughter (my cousin). When they came to the 'states in spring 07 to visit my sister and I in college--I was surprised to see his mannerism.

That a graduate of a fine medical school in the Philippines, a Medical Doctor who is now in the UK can yet be so helpful to his wife and child. It is inspiring.

In humility, there is great reward. In helping, there is treasure.

Cheers.

Bible Study / Re: Can You Lose Your Salvation?

Greetings Tita Lee,

Absolutely the message that is given to us in John 3:15-17, "That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

This verse in scripture is from a conversation Jesus had with the Jewish official, Nicodemus, and when Nicodemus had a conversation with Him on the basis of Salvation. Christ, prior to this verse, talks about being born again and the latter being a requirement for entry into the Kingdom of Heaven. By this, Christ means baptismal, to be born again.

Remember that the first letter of Peter addresses Christians as those who "have been born anew." (1peter 1: 23). This language echoes the words of Jesus, who tells Nicodemus, "No one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above" (or born again, if you take it). The Greek in this passage--John 3:23--allows for either translation.

Nicodemus is puzzled, "How" he asks, "can a person once grown old be born again? Surely he cannot reenter his mother's womb and be born again, can he?" (John 3:4)

Jesus' reply to Nicodemus is critical for understanding what it means to be "born again":

Christ tells him and us, "I say to you, no one can enter the KINGDOM OF HEAVEN without being born of water and spirit" (John 3:5). The event described here is not, as not merely a profession of faith in Christ. Rather it refers to the Sacrament of Baptism, when the person is washed with water and receives the Spirit. Later preaching in Pentecost, St. Peter confirms that those who are baptized receive the Spirit (ACTS 2:38).

The new birth, which is the beginning of the new life in Christ, must come about after death of the "old self" (ROMANS 6:6)--that is, the unredeemed nature burdened by original sin(Romans 6:7).

How does this death leading to new life, come about? Through the absolution of sins in Baptism. "Are  you anware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised form the dead by the GLORY  of the Father, we too might lieve in newness of life." (ROMANS 6:3-4)

However, salvation that is promised to us is not and will be accountable if one leaves and forgoes his or her promises to Christ Our Lord and the Holy Spirit that works through each and everyone of us.

The verse from Matthew 7: 13-14, ""Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because  narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it."

--Is a reminder for us that we who take up on the cross and belief and faith in the redemption of Christ through his death and resurrection--and through our baptismal rights. Are expected to live that profession of faith through our lives. Each and every single day. Hebrews 6:4-6 explicity tells us that those who believe, profess faith one time, have felt the presence of the Spirit of God, but have fallen away and head not the greatest commandment that we were given--and fall back to the sin that we were purged of--basically meaning--loosing 'faith' or 'giving up' on faith. Does not guarantee salvation.

It is important, Tita Lee, that we all digest the verse from John 3:16.
Yes, that is true, that is the reason why God sent his son. So that some would be saved and not perish along with the world. However, verses in Luke, as well as in Hebrews tells us we must live responsibly, and live in accordance to the faith that was given. It is about keeping the faith, acting by one's faith and living the faith. It is based on fighting to keep your salvation, believing and not succumbing to your old self. To not forsake the teachings of the Church, through Christ. And keeping and fighting for salvation,Philippians 2:12 :"Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling."

"Afterall, we are told, as good Christians, "What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds."
Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that--and shudder. "

(James 2: 14-18)

I want to take these exams now!!
Been reviewing for the upcoming Medical Physiology and Med Gen, Biochem and Surgical Neuroanatomy exams for over 3.5 weeks now. It has come to the point that I am loosing it, lol. I had a review session all this week, and it has become obvious to me and to my friends that we need to take this exam now! It is set for Friday and Monday.

I assure you having 4-5 hours of sleep everday for the past 2 weeks is not good. For the past 4 days I have had no more than 2 hours sleep.

I assure that it is not of my own liking, but due to the demands of the excessive material we are given, it is necessitated that we yield to study. And surrender sleep. I do, however, plan on having a nice sleep on Thursday night. My medical partner in surgicla neuroanatomy, Job, has had little to no sleep. Hahahaha, actually, it is hilarious when we had Neuroantomy class yesterday---there were 30 or so students. The 70 or so students took the day off to study some more. puahahahaha.

That or getting rest.

My Life in Pictures:

The concept of the MHC and immunological defense complex.
If only our professor explained it better. Thus, one is left teaching himself the complex. There is about 20 pages worth of information in the book on it (which prof will test us in), but he only covered no more than 3 minutes of it in class. LOL!!!

My hand angers in the, MHC!

Preposterous. Man and Woman are equal. In the workplace and in the home.
The two are always equal, from the beginning, to the end.

The woman contributes more, in the biological sense, since she bears the child and delivers the child. (us men will never understand or comprehend the excrusiating pain in child delivery--that our wives, spouses had/have/will endure)

It is up to the man to pamper the woman and  respect her.

After all, she will bear and guarantee us, the man, our sacred progeny and Line.
Our genetic re-constituents.

There are hypocrites in this world, who claim to be righteous and love Life, and at the same time agree on abortion.

What sickens me more is that there is a medical specialty that capitalizes on murder.
Abortionists, or 'side-line' Gynecologists.

It matters not how old the fetus/embryo is. The fact is that once conception occurs, that is a human life in the womb.

This society we live in has gone far, and strayed from the morals and ethics we have been taught and from right and wrong that it has even developed rational thought in defense of abortion.

A defense for murder. Ultimately, that is what abortion is, cold-blooded murder.
A murder of innocents. Silencing of multitude of human beings, who are denied the right to existence.

Jesus warned us about hypocrites, when he told us the parable in not judging.
Let us not be the hypocrites that Our Lord talked about.

Support Life.

Yours In Christ,

Mao na it is important for us, who are enrobed in the teachings of the Church, through God, to hold on to our faith and to the teachings that we have been given.

May we all remember our Baptismal rights, and the Salvation that was promised to us by the Death and Resurrection of Christ Jesus Our Lord.

Jesus never once said that salvation is easy. On the contrary, when a disciple asked The Lord Jesus Christ who would be saved, Jesus Christ, The Word Incarnate answered him in Truth,

Jesus Said, "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because  narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it."

(Matthew 7:13-14)

Again, Jesus tells us directly and warns us:

"And He went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. Then one said to Him, “Lord, are there few who are saved?” And He said to them, “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able. When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open for us,’ and He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know you, where you are from,’ then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’ But He will say, ‘I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity."

(Luke 13:22-27)

Read scripture and listen to the teachings of the Church. And stray away from improper personal interpretations of Blessed Scripture, as Scripture was meant to complement Church Teachings. To allow better understanding.

God Bless All Of Us. Peace To You all my Brothers and Sisters.
In Jesus's Name.

Wisdom is from the Mouth of God.
If you ask God for Wisdom,
He will give you circumstances that which you can recieve and attain Wisdom
He will not simply give you Wisdom right and there.

Acquisition of Wisdom comes at a price, and is always daunt, as there are forces in this world that will try to hinder that acquisition, which is of fruit of the Eternal Father in Heaven.

Prophet Noah recieved Wisdom when he was told by the Most High to construct an Ark.
He constructed the Ark before there was any signs of rain.
And he was subject to taunts, ridicule, and hostility by those who did not recieve the Wisdom of God.

Prophet Isaiah recieved Wisdom, and lived and worketh in the the righteousness of the Lord and preached form low to high. And was subject to the ridicule to the Pharisees.
But he spread and spoke, from his own mouth, the Wisdom of God.

You gain wisdom, and you apply wisdom. The path may be long and winding, but the Holy Spirit, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, and is worshiped with the Father and The Son, lives in our hearts. With that, the impossibilities become possibilities.

As did not God The Father make the barren and dry womb of Sarah bear Isaac? The legitimate son of Abraham.

That was wisdom. Abraham's faith was Wisdom. Asked of, and when given, Applied.

When I studied abroad in the Ukraine in the spring semester of 2006, I found myself wanting.

I had to take an intensive Ukrainian/Russian Course at the same time I was taking the courses required of my exchange program at the Kiev Mohyla Academy of Law and Sciences.

I was one of 12 Alleghenians that were selected to study abroad in the Ukraine. And reading and writing papers on the Soviet Union and its policies was one thing--discussing it in a history course--giving presentations on the Soviet arms trade, Soviet political alliances etc--but actually living and breathing and eating in a former Soviet Socialist Republic---is totally different story.

When I first arrived to Ukraine, I couldn't help myself from visiting every single Orthodox Church, every castle, reading the histories of each building, edifice, and plaza in downtown Kiev.

Why, I even signed up in a Ukranian Skii trip to the Carpathian Mountains--which was on the border between The Ukraine and Romania, Poland and Moldova.

With my own eyes, we stayed in the small villages of Lvov, at authentic Ukrainian pastries. Honored with Village dancers and festivities.

At first, the language barrier was rather obvious, but within 1-2 weeks time living in Ukraine and taking a course--my fluency in Cyrillic was obvious--and could converse in basic Ukrainian/Russian with common folk. Obviously, what gave me away was my thick American acceent--and Asiatic-Mongolic phenotype. lol.

When I took a trip with some fellow students to the Crimea--we stayed at a Tartar-owned hotel and were served with authentic Turkish/Tatar food. With yalk milk.
A ukranian historian, who gave us a tour, asked me, "Sir, are you a Mongol?"
I answered him, "No, but am A Filipino"

That started our long conversation on the Mongol invasion of Ukraine in the 13th centuries--and the rich history of the Mongol Empire. And to admit, struck my interest. Heavily.

In my life, I only read about Mongol History--or Kievan Russian History--but to actually live and breath it. To touch old forts, keeps, and castles and see the cannon holes that were made by the invading Turkish and Mongol Armies of some 5-6 centuries past, was totally different.

By the time my semester in Ukraine came to an end in August 2006, I found myself wanting. Yet again. Ukraine became almost my adoptive country. The people were courteous, gentle, and accepting. It is definitely one good characteristic of Eastern European Culture.

I look back at my year spent in Ukraine with nostalgia and warmth. Definitley, I would like to visit Ukrainya and Russi'ya in the future.

There was drama in high school, sure there was drama even in college.

But why is there drama in a Medical College?

If I listened long enough to you
Id find a way to believe that its all true
Knowing that you lied straight-faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe

Someone like you makes it hard to live without
Somebody else
Someone like you makes it easy to give
Never think about myself

If I gave you time to change my mind
Id find a way just to leave the past behind
Knowing that you lied straight-faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe

If I listened long enough to you
Id find a way to believe that its all true
Knowing that you lied straight-faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe

David speaks in a psalm of God's intimate and all-abiding love for him, even before he was born. He prays:"You formed my inmost beings; you knit me in my mother's wombs. My very self you knew. My bones were not hidden from you. When I was being made in secret. (Psalm 139:13-15). Other biblical passages confirm the truth that the child in the womb, at whatever stage of development, is a fully human person-known and loved by God, sharing the great dignity and value of every human person created by God in His Image (Genesis 1:26-27)

The bible condemns murder. The wrongful taking of innocent human life (Exodus 20: 13). Since children in the womb are regarded as human persons in Scripture, killing them is included in this prohibition. In addition, we should note that Our Lord Jesus Christ shows special concern for children because of their vulnerability and is explicit in his condemnation of those who would hurt these little ones:

" But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
Woe unto the world because of offenses! for it must needs be that offenses come; but woe to that man by whom the offense cometh! Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire. Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven. For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost."

(--Matthew 18:6-11)

So the church, in keeping with his example and with the consistent teaching of Ancient Scripture and Tradition, condemns abortion as a particularly heinous crime.

God Bless You All,

Bible Study / Can You Lose Your Salvation?
February 23, 2009, 11:31:51 PM
Many Christians declare: "once saved, always saved" by this they mean that once a person confesses faith in Jesus Christ, he is "saved" form all God's punishment for sin, including hell. Whatever he may do for the rest of his life, he is guaranteed a place in heaven.

Catholics and many other Christians as well--reject this teaching as unbiblical. For example, there is a warning in the Book of Sirach:
"Of forgiveness be not overconfident, adding sin upon sin. Say not: "Great is his mercy; my many sins he will forgive. For mercy and anger alike are with Him. Upon the wicked alights his wrath. (Sirach 5: 5-7)

Some might object that this passage doesn't apply to Christians; after all, Sirach is an Old Testament book that does not even appear in Protestant Bibles. Nevertheless, the New Testament echoes this warning to Christians:
"For it is impossible in the case of those who have once been enlightened and tasted the heavenly gift and shared in the holy spirit and tasted the good word of God and the powers of age to come, and then have fallen away, to bring them to repentance again, since they are recrucifying the Son of God for themselves and holding him up to contempt
(Hebrews 6:4-6)

At the same time, in speaking of severe trials ahead for his followers, Jesus predicts that "the love of many will grow cold. But the on who perseveres to the end will be saved."
(Matthew 24: 12-13)
Not the one who makes a one-time confession of faith, but the one who perseveres to the very end.

To clarify further, we should note that "salvation" means much more than an initial experience of faith. Its a lifelong process, in this world and the nexnt, which culminates--if we faithfully persevere--in perfect holiness and the vision of GOD.

So don't obtain our salvation one day and then 'lose' it another. Instead, for a lifetime, we must "work out (our) salvation with fear and trembling"
(Philippians 2:12)

May the Peace, Love, and Mercy of Our Lord Jesus Christ be with you All.

We can never judge Marcos and say that he lost his soul. Who are we to say that he lost his soul, but God Himself.

Marcos could have, in his death bed, renounced his actions and yearned for forgiveness from The Lord, Whose mercy is beyond our reckoning and understanding.

Marcos was a devout Catholic in his life. He met the Holy Father, Pope John Paul II.

I am sure Marcos made his peace with God. In his own way.

It is getting worse because even if there is a use of a People's Power Revolution won't solve any problems if the politicians who pledge to a people's power coup--will not change. Continual uprisings only destabilize government.

Use proper channels to vent disinterest, instead of rising in numbers and forming a mob, and declare it the 'People' when in actuality, it is nothing but a mob.

If you want change, vote for change. Take it to the polls. And don't sell your vote.

Those who sell their votes have no right to complain about the destititution. Since you acquiesced to the system of corruption.

Change begins with you. In the words of Mahatma Gandhi, "You are the change you seek in the world."

President Ferdinand Marcos,

Oh only if he hadn't abused his power.

Imagine what a President he could have been.

#40767
Glacier, did you read about the conversation Pres. Marcos had with Professor Yap?

Shortly after martial law was declared, Speaker Laurel asked Prof. Manoling Yap to accompany him to the said Palace meeting with Marcos. Marcos was known to be very close to the Laurels. Marcos felt that he owed his Supreme Court murder charge acquittal to the then Supreme Court Chief Justice (and later Japanese Occupation Philippine President) Jose Laurel Sr.

It was also Speaker Pepito Laurel who brought Marcos into the Nacionalista Party (NP) and paved the way for his nomination as NP Official Candidate for the 1965 Presidential Election which Marcos won over incumbent President Diosdado Macapagal.
In that Palace meeting, Laurel asked Marcos: “Brod, why did you have to declare martial law?” According to Manoling Yap, Marcos replied: “Brod, kung hindi ako nag-declare ng martial law, ako ang papatayin ng mga Amerikano."

I am not going to overlook the shortcomings of Ferdinand Marcos, as it would be unhistorical for me to do so. I simply just admire the man. His charisma, his endeavors and his Machiavellianismo attitude.

He was a Brilliant Politician. Brilliant.

Marcos may be gone, but his living testaments are the Republic acts, which most of whom are still in use. He promulgated the Batasang Bayan, which would ultimately become the Interim Batasang Pambansa. We cannot say that he was a failure of a president, since his laws are still in force and in use to this very day.

The corruption in the Philippines (which is a "Catholic" country per se) is not a failure of the church itself because if we will try to look unto it, the church and the state is separated (although the extent of sepparation is not as high as in the U.S.A.).

If we would only look at the other side of the issue, everything rooted from  education itself. Even if religion is responsible in developing the moral attributes of every member, the government still has the highest responsibility of developing morally upright citizens.

However, the system of education provided by the country gives less importance to values education because the development of the students' cognitive skills are of the highest importance. Looking back in my basic education years, Values Education is not a big deal for us and it has been shown over and over again. We were given books for other subjects but not for values education although there were times wherein we enjoyed some values books but they were obviously of less "value" than the other books. Students would rather choose to fail in Values Education (because the credit is lesser/ sometimes it's 0 credit) than in Science, English or Mathematics.

In addition to, most Values Education teachers are teaching values as their extra subject and most of the times, there are no Values Education specialists unlike Math, Science, English and others. The government should have realized that Values Education is not something that would be taken for granted or would be given less importance.

And now, where's the root?

(Hand Salute and Bow)

Well said, good Sir.

If you look at the political scheme, there was no president after Marcos that has made such an impact. Corruption and political malhandling that many attribute to the Great Marcos---these same leaders are themselves guilty of.

This Senator Lacson from Illocos who likes to raddle sabers and threaten GMA with political attacks is also a supporter of the terrorist NPA.

Had Marcos been alive, Lacson would have already been silenced on charges of National Treason.

These politicians who claim to be righteous and make proliferations on the need for change and etc etc are themselves guilty of vote buying, corruption etc.

When Marcos was in power, they ushered graces to Marcos, hailed him. And when people's power came at hand, then they back stabbed the President.

Same thing happened to Estrada.

Same thing happened to Aquino (who was threatened by mutineeing)

People's Power is a rebellious concept. Rebellion to government and to Order. Anarchistic, if you think about it (as it has been argued by a colleague of mine in my history class on Global Politics---several years ago)

When Marcos was President, the Military was vehemently loyal to him. No treasons, no confrontation. After Marcos, the military is 'feared' and is treated second class.

The Philippine Government deprive the AFP of much needed military equipment and improvement based ont he fact that they fear the Military.

Why fear the Military?

They should LOVE the military. Just like Marcos. Marcos Loved the Military. And the Military LOVED him.

Caesarian, in a way.
#40770
For the most part, Marcos did good in Bohol. He brought electricity, he brought paved roads, and for the most part he brought peace and order to a country that once was ripe with murders, drug trade, rebellious activity, regional violence.

I admire his firm handedness, I admire his through deliberation, I admire his overall, view on the good of the Philippines.

He may not have been a Socratic Philosopher King, but he was one that crushed rebellious activities with the Hammer of the AFP.

Under Marcos, The Philippine Air Force and the Philippine Navy was feared in the region. MNLF rebels ran for their lives at the sound of the Footsteps of Divisions marching down to squash their insurgent activity.

Marcos' only enemy was Age and Time.

Time got the best of him.
#40771
I remember reading a book on Marcos several years back, as it was a topic of discussion in my College History Course.

We were assigned to write a 10 paged paper on Marcos and other Dictators of the time.

There was a quote that Marcos said in regards to difficulties of governing, which I used as my ending sentence in my paper,

"Leadership is the other side of the coin of loneliness, and he who is a leader must always act alone. And acting alone, accept everything alone. "

#40772
We cannot delete this thread, because I for one am a Marcosian Apologist.

I am a fan of Marcos.

:)

In my opinion, he was the Greatest Filipino President, Ever.
His brilliance is undisputable. Most of the Republic Acts, which he wrote, are still enforced and still in use.

Aside from his corruption, the man was a Giant among his colleagues. He epitomizes a Politician. The goods and the bads.

President Ferdinand E. Marcos.
President of the Republic of the Philippines.

Thanks Lorenzo, this is very informative.

I never thought Andalusia would become as modern as what I saw from your post. Most of their old architechture is still preserved and mixed in contrast to new technology.

What I thought of Andalusia is a medieval town like old cities in Italy. Because from our history lesson, Andalusia was the frontline of the Holy Crussade where Morrocans fought with the Christian north. So, I thought of Medieval with Castles, horses and nights.

What I knew also is that thier main produce are Olives and orchard. I wonder why the Spaniards did not brought Olives to the Philippines. Maybe our climate is not suitable for its growth. It is one of the most expensive oil.

Mr. Ferniz,

The Spaniards brought oranges, grapes, pineapples, tobacco, potatoes, to Philippines. Perhaps there was no need for olives in the Philippines.

Philippines did, however, influence Spain.

Mangoes, Rice, and Star Fruits, Sugar Cane etc were brought to other parts of the Spanish Empire where it influenced growth in population.

IN the Spanish Overseas Province of the Canaries, Mangoes and Rice is a major product. Even to this day.

That, is the direct link Philippines had on Spain.

;)

;)

Most of the Spaniards that came to colonize Philippines were from Andalucia and Madrid region. The Spaniards from Andalucia and southern Spain formed the main ranks of the Conquistardore Armies.

And many of our Filipino Mestizos that have Spanish blood, to this day, most probably have the blood line of Andalucia.

Andalucians are renowned or their beauty.

For i received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took break and after he had given thanks, broke it and said, "This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me." In the same way also the cup, after  supper saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." For as often as you  eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes.

Therefore whoever eats the bread and drink the cup of the Lord unworthily will have to answer the body and blood of the Lord. A person should examine himself and so eat and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself.

That is why many among you are ill and infirm, and a considerable number are dying.
If we discerned ourselves, we would not be under judgment, "but since we are judged by The Lord, we are being disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the world.

Therefore, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that your meetings may not result in judgment. The other matters I shall set in order when I come

This is one of the reasons why the Philippines needs to maintain its alliance with the US.

Today I had my first experience of a 'communication gap' lol. I was in the hospital for our mandatory volunteering hours that 1st and 2nd years are required to complete. Last week I did my time in the GI floor, so this week I requested to be in the ER. The attending physician and senior students showed us proper suturing techniques (as if I didn't know already, lol, thanks to Gross Anatomy and Vascular Anatomy lab). But anyways, I had the honor in doing a small suture in mediolateral aspect of the patient's forearm. The cut was rather superficial; merely adipose damage, nothing below that tho. I was expecting to hear that she had median to ulnar nerve damage; but seeing the wound, it wasn't that deep.

She spoke in Spanish. No English at all. Thank the Lord for myself being able to understand and speak Spanish; and to think there are people who actually think Learning Spanish is unnecessary. lol.

Ya. Right.

Show restraint. Anyone can release raw passionate feelings. However, self-constraint and control is what makes a person a person.

The complete surrender to feelings is the beginnings of Anarchism.

Hahaha, so the political side of Senor Gec Muy Guapo comes out.

Gec, I always love your posts. Poetic Justice.

Yes, sir, I am pretty sure that there might be genetic defects in the polymorphic alleles of H. Dumpty.

LOL!

What did I do today?

Today was a Saturday. I had hospital volunteering duty this afternoon. I had the honor in suturing a small cut in the hospital. Later joined some buds for a Med Gen review session.
Went to church at 6pm. Afterwards, went back to Med Gen review.

Got back home 1:30 AM my time.

Resting for a bit right now.

Very warm looking church. It looks just like the Pentecostal Church I visited last week. Very song-oriented.

Praising the Holy Spirit.

Very exhilarating experience, nonetheless.

Catholic, Orthodox, Baptist, Calvanist, Methodist, Presbyterian, 7th Day Adventist, Anglican, etc, we are all Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

God Bless all of Us. In the Family of Christ.
