Tebow Foundation To Help Build Children’s Hospital In Philippines

DENVER (CBS4) â€" Tim Tebow is getting ready to take on the New York Jets this week, but he’s also taking on a new project.

Tebow announced Tuesday that his foundation is teaming up with CURE International to build a new children’s hospital in the Philippines.

“The Tebow CURE Hospital in Davao City will be a 30-bed surgical facility focusing primarily on orthopedics,” the foundation said in a statement.

Tebow was actually born in the Philippines and his parents have worked as missionaries there.

“I was born in the Philippines and my parents have been missionaries to that area since 1985.
   The Philippines have always had a special place in my heart,” Tebow said.
   â€œI’m excited to be a part of this hospital that will bring healing to thousands of children who would not otherwise have access to care.”

The quarterback says he’s excited to help children who have no other access to health care.

The construction project is expected to cost $3 million, with donors from CURE and the Tebow Foundation sharing the costs.

The hospital is set to open in mid-2013.

MANILA, Philippines â€" Tim Tebow, currently among the most popular playeers in American football,
     is largely unknown in the Philippines and the metropolitan city of his birth.

The 24-year-old Tebow, superstar quarterback of the Denver Broncos, was born in Makati City.

"Tee-bone?" said Makati government official Mila Gonzalez in a telephone conversation with The Post Game.com. "How do you spell that?"

Tebow was born on August 14, 1987 to American parents who were serving as Christian Baptist missionaries in the Philippines at the time.

He is especially well-known for fourth-quarter scoring drives that result, week after week, in miraculous come-from-behind victories for the Broncos.

Since Tebow took over the starting quarterback position, the team has racked up 7 wins and just 1 loss.

Gonzalez admitted to The Post Game.com that nobody at the Makati City Hall recognized Tebow's name.

"No one here has heard of him," said Gonzalez. "Is he a current player? “

“Of course it is exciting for us now you have told us about this, and we will look it up.
  If someone from our city is successful it is something for us to celebrate. I am sure once people begin to realize
  he is from Makati they will start to follow him in his sporting endeavors," she added.

Tebow appeared in Nike's "Boom" television advertisement with Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao last year.

Americans not only marvel Tebow for his exploits in the field, but also admire him for his humble demeanor and
   his religious devotion, which they say makes him an ideal role model for youngsters.

His parents nearly lost him when doctors advised his mother, Pamela Elaine, to undergo abortion
   after she suffered a life-threatening infection during pregnancy.

His mother refused to terminate her pregnancy while carrying "Timmy."

Tagbilaran mayor faces charges for ‘genital exposure’, denies allegation

MAYOR Dan Lim of Tagbilaran City, Bohol denied reports that he allegedly showed his private parts to two flight attendants
on board a flight for Manila last Friday afternoon.

“Kung nag binastos ko (If I was being lascivious), why did I submit myself to authority?
  Wala na nako buhata (I did not do it),” he said over a radio dyLA interview.

The alleged exposure fueled a sharing spree online 12 hours after the incident, which Lim said has tainted his political image.

Lim is facing complaints of sexual harassment and grave scandal lodged against him by the two flight attendants.

The incident happened inside Zestair flight (Z2352) when Lim allegedly reacted violently after he was told that he could not
yet go to the restroom as the plane was already taxiing on the runway of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport
while the “fasten your seat belt” sign was still on.

Urinate

The mayor, instead, asked one of the complainants if she wants him to urinate in the cabin and demanded to talk with the captain.

Out of embarrassment, the attendant called the attention of the pilot, Capt. Ronaldo Ramos, who later allowed Lim to use
  the lavatory to avoid further scandal inside the aircraft.

The attendant, however, said she was shocked to see Lim allegedly opened his pants and pulled down his underwear,
  exposing his genitals in front of the shocked attendants.

One of the attendants, who failed to hide her tears out of shame, described the incident as traumatic.

Commotion

The incident caused a commotion at the airplane that prompted the attendants to call the pilot.

She described the mayor as “unruly as he started talking in a loud voice.”

Upon disembarking from the plane, Lim and the two attendants were brought to the Airport Police Department for investigation.

Lim, in an interview, complained against the airline company for being insensitive to people like him.

He described himself as a 59-year-old man who suffers from diabetes and needs to urinate often.

Lim also believed his political opponents are taking the opportunity to blow the issue out of proportion to hamper his plan in the 2013 elections.
