The honorific title "Don", which is very common here in the Philippines and therefore needs no further elucidation, has nothing to do with the etymology of the word "donsilya"

It requires analysis, as we need to study the origin of the word; to understand the meaning of the original word; the way it was used in Spain--The Mother of the Spanish Language--to which applied influence in the Philippines, which was a Colony of Spain for almost half a millenia.

In order to study something, to properly and fully understand how an idiom can be used and understand the current/modern meaning to the original, one needs to study the origin. The focal point. To see how and where the current meaning has deviated from the original. Its imperative for any linguistics analysis, or for that matter, any sociocultural aspect. :)

Ive never heard of the term 'Mampor' ever being used in Spanish. And as a fairly fluent speaker, I can attest to the fact that I've never used this term. However, I can attest to the fact that the term 'Por' is indeed Hispanic in origin. It does not bear any Austronesian links.

The word Por is part of the Spanish Request, "Por Favor" meaning 'Please'.

How the word Mampor developed, it alludes my understanding. How it is used in Filipino, is an interesting one.

The Filipino habit of borrowing Latin words and applying a regionalist use and meaning is definitely observed in this specific example. hehehe.

Por is indeed Latin-based.

It is the prefix of some words:

1)Porque (Spanish; for why)
2) Pourquoi (French; again another Latinized language)
3) Por Favor
4) parce que (French for 'because')

As we can observe that the word 'Por' actually derives from the Greek word "Porus", which would be adopted by the Romans (Latinium) in the Latin word of 'Porc'.

Spain, being a Colony of the Roman Empire for 500 years adopted it and used the term as "Por/ Para/ Porque" etc.

hehehe :)

etc.,

Final Analysis: Filipino Language, is indeed a stratified one. Borrowing foreign words and using it and applying a local meaning. A totally different meaning from the original.
hehehe

He was already dead when they arrived. He was already wrapped in a white scarf. Which is a Muslim Burial Cloth. As Michael Jackson did convert to Islam several years ago.

Peace be with him.

Don't believe in superstition, as there is no spirit in these falls.

All of this was written in the Book of Life, for it is written that our days have been written by the Lord God. To each of us have a predistined time, an alotted time in this Earth. Our return to the Father and the time of our return, Only the Heavenly Father knows.

Do not believe in superstition, which does not exist. But believe in the Saving Power of Christ. That though these young men are no longer here, in the physical. That their Eternal Soul was raised to the Judgement Seat of Christ. To which our Savior will be merciful, We Pray for Mercy.

To the ETERNAL AND LIVING GOD be all Glory, Honor and Praise.
Now and Forever.

Amen.

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to St. Matthew 9:18-26

While Jesus was speaking, an official came forward,
knelt down before him, and said,
"My daughter has just died.
But come, lay your hand on her, and she will live."
Jesus rose and followed him, and so did his disciples.
A woman suffering hemorrhages for twelve years came up behind him
and touched the tassel on his cloak.
She said to herself, "If only I can touch his cloak, I shall be cured."
Jesus turned around and saw her, and said,
"Courage, daughter!  Your faith has saved you."
And from that hour the woman was cured.

When Jesus arrived at the official's house
and saw the flute players and the crowd who were making a commotion,
he said, "Go away! The girl is not dead but sleeping."

And they ridiculed him.
When the crowd was put out, he came and took her by the hand,
and the little girl arose.
And news of this spread throughout all that land.

Gikan sa Genesis sa unang pagbasa karong adlawa:

Genesis 28:15 Timan-i nga ako nag-uban kanimo. Panalipdan ko ikaw bisag asa ka paingon ug dad-on ko ikaw pagbalik niining yutaa. Dili ko ikaw biyaan hangtod nga matuman ang gisaad ko kanimo.

BEC Bible

Sa English Version:

15 Know that I am with you; I will protect you wherever you go, and bring you back to this land. I will never leave you until I have done what I promised you.”

I love this verse :)
Most of all, I like the Binisaya version. hehe!

Kani Pa!

Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.

I agree with this statement. For me, Trust, is a one-time issue. It is either you can be credible and be trusted, or you cannot. A friend is a true friend, one who will be with you--a close and personal confidant.

People who act like friends, but actually betray their 'friends', talking behind their friends, and allowing others to harm the people who considered them as 'friends' are not real friends.

That is not friendship.

That is a destructive relationship.

The Holy Bible tells us to stay away from people like that. Wolves in Sheeps Clothing.

Nothing positive comes from relationship like that. What kind of friendship are we to acquire from people who are that shallow? To be nice to your frace--but when given the chance, will stab you in the back?

Stick to the REAL friends. Not the fake ones.

As I said, trust, is a One-Time Issue.

I may forgive you for the things you say or do. But I will never be able to trust you after betraying my Trust.

Simple. As. That.

:D

Verse 1:
When the music fades
All is stripped away
And I simply come
Longing just to bring
Something that's of worth
That will bless Your heart

Bridge:
I'll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You're looking into my heart

Chorus:
I'm coming back to the heart of worship
And it's all about You,
It's all about You, Jesus
I'm sorry, Lord, for the thing I've made it
When it's all about You,
It's all about You, Jesus

Verse 2:
King of endless worth
No one could express
How much You deserve
Though I'm weak and poor
All I have is Yours
Every single breath

Bridge:
I'll bring You more than a song
For a song in itself
Is not what You have required
You search much deeper within
Through the way things appear
You're looking into my heart

Chorus:
I'm coming back to the heart of worship
And it's all about You,
It's all about You, Jesus
I'm sorry, Lord, for the thing I've made it
And it's all about You,
It's all about You, Jesus

Chorus:

Bible Study / Re: Prayer For Life [30 Days]
July 05, 2009, 01:40:11 PM
Day 13

Psalm 68:5
A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy habitation.

A Father of the fatherless and . . . fathers

I had a friend many years ago who confided in me that he was terrified of being a father. He and his wife already had two children when this revelation came forth. “I never knew my father,” he explained, “and I have no idea what a father is supposed to do.” We continued to share about this, as well as pray together. He began to see he had a father’s heart for his children. His biggest problem was not a limitation on love but not knowing how to act out this love.

One day we talked about the verse quoted at the top of this page. I shared that he did know his Father… not his biological father but his Heavenly Father, who had rescued him from a life of destruction not many years before. “How did your Heavenly Father guide you?” I asked. He talked about the ways he had seen God’s love offered to him and the way the Lord had used circumstances and the Scriptures to mold him and mature him. “Well, the Lord wants to do the same thing through you for your children. Be available to His love and available to your kids. You’ll do fine.”

How wonderful it is to know that God takes a personal interest in each of us, many times using His faithful people â€" the Church â€" as channels of this love. No one is fatherless who lives in the Lord. His fatherly care begins at the moment of our conception, as it is written, “you knit me together in my mother’s womb” (Psalm 139:12), and continues to be poured upon us throughout our lives.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for caring about each of us so deeply. Help us to see and know you as our Father in heaven each and every day of our lives. Your loving hand also rests on every child today carried in its mother’s womb. May they be born into this world and come to know fully and personally your endless love.  We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Back in College, several years back, I went kayaking with my friend Bryan. And we found out that the lake that we went kayaking at, which was at: Coneout Lake, was actually a site where two Mennonite youths were swimming. Within the lake is weed growth--and as the two were swmming, their legs were entangled by the weeds; and unfortunately drowned. I remember this because the owner of the kayak shop told us about it. It happened days prior to our kayaking.

Its so unfortunate to hear the news of the death of young ones. Especially when their lives have yet to begin.

Ampo nalang ta that na at peace ilang souls. Thats all we can do bitaw. Luuy lang pood ang ilang pamilya. But am sure, Christ will strengthen them. Ampo na lang ta..

Today, Job and I sang with other members of the choir. I was excited kaayo because we have a new singer, Teresa. She is a 1st year student and was always asking whether I go to a church service or not. And what is funny is that when I was in church today, preparing the microphones, plugging the wires and reciting with Job, i thought of this thread. The little choir group--God Bless Us--was strengthened today by the arrival of Teresa. She came to mass and ran to our direction, and asked, "Do you guys need help singing?"

Job smiled, with his guitar straps around his neck. And I, in amazement of the Glory of God, answered, "Of course, pick up a sheet" lol!

Isn't it amazing how our littlest prayers--smallest requests as in asking God for more choir members--can be answered like that. :) Because The Lord is soo GOOD. :)
We sang some songs and as we were singing, especially during the ofratory hymn "One Bread, One Body." I could observe from my ears and eyes that most of the members of Church were singing loudly with us. Oh you could feel the spirit! hahaha, GOD IS GOOD! PRAISE BE HIS NAME!

At the end, as we were helping to put back the books--the two older ladies in the back were asking us to come their direction. So we did. Jolie was there, and so was Mercedes. These were two old ladies--they were touched by the songs and asked to get a copy of the two new songs we sang today "Here I am to Worship" and "In Christ Alone". I was almost brought to tears by Jolie's response and glee. You see, Jolie is an old woman, but she is mentally handicapped. But she sang anyways. hehehe.
Very buutan tawhana, imho. Always, mo wave siya namo or say hi, bisan after mass hehehe. You know i was really touched by them and their singing and their appreciation.

And I realize jud, am convinced, that there really is no impossibility for the Lord. His kindness shows--even in the eyes and face of a mentally handicapped individual who is well into her years. And it reminds me---that the physical really means nothing. It is, indeed, the soul---the inner beauty of an individual, that true matters.

I wanted to share that message, lang.
:)

God Bless Us, Everyone.

Light of the world,
You stepped down into darkness,
Opened my eyes,
Let me see.
Beauty that made this heart adore You;
Hope of a life spent with You.

And here I am to worship,
Here I am to bow down,
Here I am to say that You're my God;
You're altogether lovely,
Altogether worthy,
Altogether wonderful to me.

King of all days,
Oh, so highly exalted,
Glorious in heaven above;
Humbly You came
To the earth you created
All for love's sake became poor.

And here I am to worship,
Here I am to bow down,
Here I am to say that You're my God;
You're altogether lovely,
Altogether worthy,
Altogether wonderful to me.

I'll never know how much it cost
To see my sin upon that Cross,
I'll never know how much it cost
To see my sin upon that Cross,
And I'll never know how much it cost
To see my sin upon that Cross,
No, I'll never know how much it cost.

Here I am to worship,
Here I am to bow down,
Here I am to say that You're my God;
You're altogether lovely,
Altogether worthy,
Altogether wonderful to me.

And here I am to worship,
Here I am to bow down,
Here I am to say that You're my God;
You're altogether lovely;
Altogether worthy,
Altogether wonderful,
Wonderful, wonderful,
Yes, You are God.

I'll never know how much it cost
To see my sin upon that Cross,
I'll never know how much it cost
To see my sin upon that Cross.

Bible Study / Dangerous Freedom
July 05, 2009, 10:20:52 AM
Freedom is dangerous in the hands of those who don’t know how to use it. That’s why criminals are confined in prisons with barbed wire, steel bars, and concrete barriers. Or consider a campfire that is allowed to spread in a dry forest. It quickly becomes a blazing inferno. Unchecked freedom can create chaos.

Nowhere is this more evident than in the Christian life. Believers are free from the law’s curse, its penalty, and its guilt-producing power. Fear, anxiety, and guilt are replaced by peace, forgiveness, and liberty. Who could be more free than one who is free in the depths of his soul? But here is where we often fail. We use freedom’s luxury to live selfishly, or we claim ownership of what God has merely entrusted to us. We slip into patterns of self-indulgent living, especially in affluent societies.

The proper use of freedom is “faith working through love” to serve one another (Gal. 5:6,13). When we rely on the Spirit and expend our energies on loving God and helping others, the destructive works of the flesh will be restrained by God (vv.16-21). So let’s always use our liberty to build up, not to tear down.

Like a raging fire, freedom without limits is dangerous. But when controlled, it is a blessing to all.  â€" Dennis J. De Haan

Christ came to give us liberty
By dying in our place;
Now with new freedom we are bound
To share His love and grace. â€"D. De Haan

Freedom doesn’t give us the right to do what we please, but to do what pleases God.

Everyone needs compassion
Love that’s never failing
Let mercy fall on me
Everyone needs forgiveness
The kindness of a Saviour
The hope of nations

Saviour
He can move the mountains
For my God is mighty to save
He is mighty to save
Forever
Author of salvation
He rose and conquered the grave
Jesus conquered the grave

So take me as You find me
All my fears and failures
Fill my life again
I give my life to follow
Everything I believe in
Now I surrender

Shine Your light and
Let the whole world see
We’re singing
For the glory of the risen King

I want to remember a particular martyr of Christ.
Defintely one of His elect. A saint.

Saint Stephen.

Who was as beautiful as an angel.
A martyr of Christ.

And even unto death, kept his lips close to the Name of Christ Jesus.
----

AMEN! For what is death?
Where is your sting, death?

We die. We will all die, but that is not the end!
Death is only the deep sleep for the body.
The body will perish, like the capsule, the coat.
But the beauty that resides within the body---The Soul--cannot die.
It will be raised. Tho we may die, our souls will rise. It will rise and return to the Lord.
So be faithful, and fear no death, no ailment, nor physical or unseen things.
AMEN!

For we are reminded, NO! We are TOLD!

:For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

(Romans 8:38-39)

They are my age. I am also 23 years old. This is pretty hard to read because they were too young, at the ripe years of life. Oh I am brought to tears for their family, and their friends.

Life is too short, and the body too fragile, and circumstances too unpredictable. This is why we should always live our lives with Peace and Friendship with God. Because we, in our fragility, don't know when we will be called home.

I am so sorry for their family. Im thinking about them and their loved ones.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
Lord, grant them mercy, mercy, Papa give them mercy...

AMEN!!

Again,
Lord for those that talk ill about one another
again
Forgive us Lord for harming one another with words that harm
again
Lord for our own weaknesses in promising to do something and falling to pass
again
Lord strengthen us to comit to our oaths and our promises
again
Lord forgive us for judging the poor and acting in contradiction
again
Lord strengthen us to be merciful to the poor, and sharing what we have with them
again
Lord for helping us to be comforters of those who are ill and mentally provoked,
again
Lord let us be an example of your goodness. And to defy the temptations.
Again,
Lord you are our faith, our light and Our Holy Hope.

For there is no Other Name under Heaven to which we shall be Saved.
Christ Jesus. Alone. And Only.

Written by: Albrando Lorenzo Lucino Jr.

It is written:

"Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in. If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, 'Here's a good seat for you,' but say to the poor man, 'You stand there' or 'Sit on the floor by my feet,' have you not discriminated among yourselves and becomes judges with evil thoughts? Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom He promised those who love Him? But you have insulted the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court?"
James 2:2-6

When I read this particular verse in Scripture, it makes alot of sense. And at the same time it is very refreshing to hear the Word of God. He tells us "Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the Kingdom he promised those who love Him?

Some of us are poor, some of us are average in wealth, some of us are rich, and some of us are wealthy. Many of us---are in financial woes. Whatever it may be. Some of us may be wealth---and have already in excess. I know its hard sometimes, with the financial situation going around that is affecting our country. But do take the time, to give a little bit to the poor. Bless You! And if you are those that give alot to the poor and hungry, God Bless You!

Anything helps. Even if its committing your time to feed the poor and needy. God Bless You!

I am inspired by people like you who take the time, and physically help the poor and needy.
We all should be inspired. Those that do so---are living examples of Christ's Message.

The fishers of men. hehehe.

Again, God Bless You!

Donselya is of course from the Spanish word "doncella" which means, historically and literarily, maiden, but it also means maidservant and well, yes, virgin. It may be noted that Schubert's "Der Tod und das Madchen" is usually rendered into English as "Death and the Maiden" but into Spanish as "La Muerte y la Doncella".

Actually, no it does not.

The word Doncella literally means "Pretty Lady, Beautiful girl"

The meaning has changed over the years; and from region to region it is used.

It can be used as: Esa doncella es mi hija.  (My daughter is very pretty)
---This is the MODERN way of using it--

Historically, doncella would be used to refer to a lady of the court. A lady in waiting. Noble lady. Literally and figuratively.

---

Again, remember that there are over 600 million Spanish speakers in the world. The majority of whom are in Latin and South America.

Only 40-50 million are from Spain.

Idioms that are used will differ from region to region. And every region will apply their own meaning for a particular word/phrase. hehehe.

Its pretty cool tho isn't it? The evolution of language. The transformation of the original.

;)

Do note that the term Don or Doña is given to a man or woman to show respect.
---

The meaning of the word has changed over time, actually, as the societies liberalized. Now, in today's time, the word Don or Doña is used as a sign of respect and admiration. It is used commonly by a younger person addressing an individual that is older and wiser.

But if one reads old Castillian documents, the meaning was different. Doña  would be used for a Lady of the Court, A woman of the noble class, or even for the Queen.

For example, a title used for the Queen of Spain would be: Doña Senora Isabella, Reina Espana y Imperio Hispanidad.

When referring to Our Lady, Mother Mary, she is referred to by Spanish speakers as (Doña Maria, Madre de Jesu Cristo, Reina del Cielo)

The prefix 'Don' is already, by right, a salutary word.

"Gwapang" is actually the contraction of “gwapa nga”.  There is no such word as "sityuwasyon" here, but we have “sitwasyon”; same with ”edyukasyon”, for which we have “edukasyon”.

Thank you for the correction. And we notice from the word "Sitwasyon" that it is indeed Latin Influenced. Same for Edukasyon' hehe.

I apologize for the err in the Filipinoized form of the Spanish word.

I admit that my proficiency in Tagalog as well as Bisaya is very limited.
Am learning tho. hahaha.

Taym sa, klaroha kuno ni Doy Lorenzo. Naa ba goy honorific title nga Donsillo/Donsilla? Which part of the Spanish-speaking world man ni gigamit, and which epoch? Taronga kuno ning imong mga post kay naa baja tingali motuo nimo.

It is quite common to refer to an individual who is of a noble class as "Don" or "Don Senor" which is equivalent to the English "Sir, Lord"

In proper Spanish salutation, if say--a commoner would come out of church and see the Gobernador-General, or any member of the upper class, it would be customary to refer to that person as "Don Senor" or "Don Senor Gobernadorcillo"

It would make sense to use the term "Don-cillo" as a contraction of the word "Don Gobernador.

Considering the Filipino trait to "Filipino-ize" Spanish Term.

I already gave an example of the word "Siempre"
In the Spanish speaking world, the word "siempre" means "Always"
But in the Philippines, when we use the word "Syempre" it means "Of course"

If one knows Spanish, we know that the word for "Of Course" is not Siempre, but is "Por Supuesto"
hehehe

\-------

Given the multifaceted nature of the Spanish Language---and the expanse of where Spanish is spoken; it only makes sense that regional tone, dialect, and wording will differ from region to region. The Spanish that is spoken in Spain, will be different to say the Spanish that is spoken in the Canaries, Mexico, Bolivia, Peru, Paraguay, Argentina, Honduras, Venezuela---and even in some parts of the Philippines. hehehe.

====

Note, that I am not an expert in Spanish. I'm just an average student---I'm not a natural speaker, I only took 5 years of the course. My interest in Spanish is mainly for the historical---and though my understanding and mastery of Spanish is but limited, it is enough for me to read and understand the idioms used in old Castillian and simplified Castillian.

hehehe ;)

Preservation Of The Faithful, The Dying, The Afflicted

There is no pain, no suffering, no wailing that comes to deaf ears to the Lord Our God.
For so much that the prayers that are offered in mind, in word, and in deed,
are sent to the Throne of the Eternal Living God, like incense that rises before the Tabernacle.

As it is written:

Revelations 8:3
"Another angel with a golden censer came and stood at the altar; he was given a great quantity of incense to offer with the prayers of the saints on the golden altar that is before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the hand of the angel."

---

So pray. You who are in ailment, the sick, the dying, the moribund, pray. Pray for yourself, for one another, pray in your words, your deeds, and your thoughts. Prostrate yourself to the LORD, for there is nothing, no prayer, no seek that is too little or too small for the LORD MOST HIGH.

Who IS the Eternal Living God!

Know that there is nothing---too small or too great for the LORD MOST HIGH.
Remember! That HE so loved us--you and I, though we all be SINNERS and wicked in our own flawed body and our own thoughts---we must have the faith, the justification to preserve ourselves. Preserve ourselves in our FAITH. That though our bodies may wail and falter, Our Soul----our ETERNAL SOUL---should not falter in the faith. For the body and the flesh is finite. It will perish and come to pass--and it will. But the soul, the spirit, cannot perish. So preserve your soul, your spirit. To the LORD MOST HIGH.

No prayer is too small or too great for the God.
Pray. Pray for yourself, and for each other.
Forgiving One Another. So that you yourself will, too, be forgiven.

Pave your own way to Salvation in Jesus Christ.

For there is NO OTHER way to salvation on High.

God Bless All of Us.

kanang word na donsilya, spanish ba na?

The honorrific title of 'Don' means "Sir, Lord, Sire" albeit it is in masculine form.
The honorrific title for a woman of the Peninsulare-Class (the aristocratic ruling class) would be "Dona, Dona Senora"

Donsillo or Donsilla would be used as a respective gesture.
A term that a working member of the gentry-class would use to refer to---the Gobernadorcillo and his wife or any member in the Peninsulare-Class.

The term "Donsillo/ Donsilla" illustrates how classed society was in the Spanish Epoch.
The same for any European Society in that time period. We see the same in Spain, as well.

Donsillo ---would be used to refer to the Lord Governor, or Lord Mayor.

Naa pay daghan kaayo ana Renz. There is a very comprehensive book entitled "Diccionario de Español en la Lengua Tagala" that presents how Spanish words have been assimilated into the local language or evolved from its original meaning. Like ante para de ojos - nahimong "antyohos" or "antipara"; la mesa - lamesa; como esta - kumusta, etc.

That is an interesting book, I'd like to get my hands on a copy of that, actually. Its really interesting how language has developed over the centuries and how Latin words have been entrenched into the Filipino diction.

The most obvious is the numerical system in use. Spanish numerical system still are in place, albeit the fact that the spelling has changed to meet the Filipino tongue.
Even in Latin America, there are parts of Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala that still retain their old Aztec and Toltec indigenous phrasing while using Spanish as the prefix or the suffix.

For example the Aztec word of "Choltepixactl" It was a name of an old city, but after the Spaniards conquored the region, it was Hispanized to "Churpatara Tiera" hehe :)

The reason why the Philippines retained a higher semblance of its austronesian wording was the fact that there wasn't that much of a Spanish overseas migration to the Philippines, as compared to the level of human migration from Spain to say the Viceroyalidad de Nueva Espana y La Plata y Peru. The Spaniards brought with them not only their tongue, but their bodies. It was Spanish policy to intermingle, and breed with the local peoples---a way to Hispanize the Native Ameri-Indians in Central and South America. As a result, for the most part, the populations of Latin America are now a mestizo mix. With most peoples having some kind of European Blood---obviously Spanish blood.

The Philippines, on the other hand, was spared from the massive Hispanic human migration due to its logistical distance. It simply was too far away for Spanish migrants. That and the fact that the Philippines---back in the 16th to 19th centuries was not considered a Provincial Colony. On the contrary, it was, by provision of the Imperial Audencia y Ecclastisticum, a Royal Spanish Bastion. It was a military colony. It was governed by a Military Provisional Government, that was part of the Viceroyalidad de Nueva Espana (Present day Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras etc). The Philippines remained a military colony from 1565 till 1840, until the loss of Spain's American colonies. When the Philippines became developed--in the mid 19th century--only then was there a significant Spanish migration to the archipelago. And even then, it was mostly Spanish Military as well as the poor Spanish gentry that arrived to the Philippines. Many of whom mixed and bred with the local indigenous population.

The Philippines---was not the focal point of a human economic migration because i didn't have the fertile land to support an expansive population. As we remember that prior to Hispanization of the islands, the population of the archipelago was no more than 100.000- 200.000. As documented by the exploratory monks (Augustinian/ Dominitians). The Philippines, was actually a religious experiment for the Spanish, observing the animistic and pagan society of the archipelago, the Spaniards conquored the islands in the goal to Christianize the people, to bring the Word of God to the people. Government and infrastructure---came with the Spaniards. They brought with them Roman jurisprudence, the concept of the bario (pueblo), municipalidad, provincia, cuidad, regionalidad, colonidad. Brought with them the concept of education--prison systems, and the very core factor that led to teh success of the Philippine Colony.----THE Spanish Eoncomienda System. Or in Filipino term---it is called the Hacienda and the Hacienderos. It was the Encomienda---the concept of a landowning and farming community that transformed the archipelago. Figuratively and Literally.

With the structured base of the hacienda, which was established throughout the archipelago by the premis and prediliction of the Catholic Church--and by the Conquistadores, it established Rice as the farming crop. Development of othe agriraian goods such as maize, potatoes, sugar cane, pineapple, mango, hemp, logging trees etc. This rise of commerce and food product was the precipitating factor that led to the boom of the Local Native population. From 1560--the population of the islands was documented to no more than 100.000-2oo.ooo. By the late 19th century, Las Filipinas had a population that has reached 8 MILLION!

From province to province, there was organization, there was a presence of law, societal forums, as well as the foundation for a nation-state, which would facilitate the entual revolutionary aspirations of the people---after reachign societal evolution from a pseudo-barbaric argrarian society prior to Hispanization to a society that reached the pinnacle of Hispano-Romanization within a span of 3 centuries.

So, obviously---with the heavy Hispanization of the Archipelago, and since its success was due to Spanish visage, it is only obviously evident that language would be also influenced by the Hispanization that occured, naturally.

Am I surprised? No. It makes sense.
Culturally, linguistically, societally and economically.

Another elect that we should keep in mind is Apostle Philip.

He asked to see the Father, and Jesus answered to him that He who has seen the Son, has already seen the Father. Christ, in his understanding, utilized Philip's own human inquisition--the humanistic urge to see--to validate the faith. Is answered by Christ Jesus' powerful resolution. "The Father and I are One."

Beautiful.

A priest once told me, "Don't worry too much on what others think about you. You cannot change everyone's minds. You can only do what is required of you, and to live according to what Christ demands of us."

"People who attack you because of their inability to comply with the Word of God---are suffering inner turmoil--within their own soul. Because of their deep knowledge of their own sins, and their inability to comply and recognize their own sins. So that is why they attack and act in reprobation towards one who is reiterating the Word of God."

Suffer for Christ.

So true. It goes for a love relationship; or even friendship.

What kind of friend would talk ill about another behind their back?
Or allow another individual to talk ill about a friend?
And knowing that the friend is being hurt and yet still do nothing about it?

Or a lover, partner, cheating and deploring his or her wedding oaths?

Lack of Trust.
Lack of Abstinancy.

Inspiration & Hope / Nothing Is Too Small
July 03, 2009, 01:19:00 PM
Written by: Albrando Lorenzo Lucino Jr.

Last week, Job and I prepared the songs to sing in Sunday Mass, the two new songs we prepared were entitled, "Here I Am To Worship" and "Mighty To Save". Our little two-man choir is such a humble little congregation, and I have been trying so much to rally the church members to sing with us in our Sunday afternoon mass.

Its been 3 months since we started to sing in Choir and I found out right after mass last week that some of the members were indeed appreciative of the songs and praise songs. I was deeply touched to meet and make the acquaintance of two older women who sat in the back, they were disabled--Christ Bless Them--and it made Job and I smile in glee to see and hear that they were appreciative of the songs.

The one older lady whose name was 'Jolie' really liked the song entitled "Here I Am To Worship".
I was embarassed a bit because i know that Job and I are just a 2 man team. And my voice really isn't that great, just average ra intawn. And I feel so blessed because these past 2 weeks, we've recieved greater contributions and volunteering in Church. More students took up the role of Eucharistic ministery, as well as Gospel Readers and just last week I found out that more people wanted to join the Choir and help us sing. hehehehe!

Gamay ra intawn si Job ug ako--kai duha ra man jud mi. So ning contemplate ra pood ko this week about the miraculous power of prayer. Ning pray among parish priest that more youth would take part and be active members in worship; and ning join mi. And then we prayed some more for more help, more hearers and doers of the Word. And lo and behold, it was made so. These past few weeks have been so very touching and empowering for me. Oh how beautiful and powerful is Prayer! Song made into Prayer!

What started as just Job Mendez, and I--Albrando Lucino--being regular choir volunteers--have become 5-6 members. hehehe. Glory be to the Name of God The Father! The Son Jesus Christ and The Holy Spirit.

I realize this intimately that there is no prayer that is too small or to miniscule for The Lord God In Heaven.

He has answered my little prayer on choir membership. Praise be to His Name!

PS. Thank so much to Job for being such a great guitar player, and the lead singer. Ako--just backup ra man jud ko hehehe.

Christ Jesus is SO Good.  ;D

DAY 12

Jonah 4:10-11

But the LORD said “You have had pity on the plant for which you have not labored, nor made it grow, which came up in the night and perished in the night. And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in  which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left- and much livestock?  Should I not be concerned about that great city?”

Could God love my enemy as much as He loves me?

God doesn’t value people and things like we do.  Jonah loved a shade tree more than an entire city of sinful people. We love our dogs more than a terrorist. We love our cars more than a beggar on the side of the road.  And sometimes, we love our money more than a child growing in a desperate teenager’s womb.

But God isn’t like us. Genesis 1 tells us that humans were the capstone of God's creation. We were created on the sixth day after God had completed the land, the stars, the plants and the animals.  Therefore, His love for us is greater than His love for a plant, an animal, or any other created thing. And the book of Jonah tells us that He loves even the most sinful of people and seeks to bring them into His merciful arms. It’s a love that seeks to touch all of his created children: that desperate teenager, the baby growing in her womb, even tyrants and terrorists.  So it’s up to us to imitate God's merciful love by helping and praying for those who persecute us, and those who don’t love us back.

Gracious God, loving our enemies seems like one of most difficult things you could ask of us. Please remind us that this is how you love and that if you ask it of us then you will give us the grace to do it. This we ask through Christ our Lord. Amen.

When there are things that trouble us, either it a physical object, a trauma, a situation at hand, or be it a spiritual problem, a strain, a battle in the faith, a temptation of the flesh etc, what are we told---what are we reminded about in regards to strength? How to overcome? What is the methodology? Provide the scriptural verse(s).

Come, let us discuss with one another.  :D

I had a discussion with some of my Spanish friends about this some time ago, as they asked me whether if Spanish is still spoken in the Philippines, any influential presence. My answer was "Asi Asi"

Filipino language maintains its austronesian stock, but at the same time, borrows and adds in Spanish words, phrasing, and tensing and has assimilated the world to sound more Austronesian. 'Filipinoizing' it. hehe, even so much as to change the way the word is written to look and sound more 'native' hehe.

====

Some examples:

The word 'Cantar' = it means 'To Sing' in Spanish.
But in Filipino dialects, they have assimilated the world to the native usage.
ex) Hoy, dali na lagi diri, gi andar na ang mic, kai gusto mi mo kanta-kanta.
--In this case 'kanta-kanta' is the assiimilated format of cantar.

Ex) Dali na ba, tokar-a tong kanta sa ganina.
--In this case the term 'tokar-a' is the localized form of 'Tocar' , which means "To play".

So many more examples! hehehe
-----

What is rather interesting for me to read and observe is how some words that are clearly very Latin, the Filipino people have changed the way it is written, adding suffixes to make it more 'Pinoy' sounding. hehehehe

Examples lang:

Guapa = Spanish Form
Gwapang/ Gwapa kaayo = Pinoy Form

Guapo = Spanish Form
Gwapo/ Gwapo kaayo = Pinoy Form

Situacion = Spanish Form
Sityuwasyon = Pinoy Form

Ebajada = Spanish Form
Embahada = Pinoy Form

Republica = Spanish Form
Republika = Pinoy Form

Parientes = Spanish Form
Paryentes/ Paryente nako = Spanish Form

Educacion = Spanish Form
Edyukasyon = Pinoy Form

hehehe

My deep condolences and prayers go to their family. May they rest in eternal peace, and may the Love and Power of Christ strengthen their families, especially through this difficult moment of their lives.

They are in our prayers.

Sa mga sabungan, "pago" or "gi-pago" means one absconds or flees with all the money (bets), when in fact it means "I pay" from the word "pagar" (to pay).

hehe, yes, its interesting to see the local diction appropriating its influence on the original Spanish Ar Verb "Pagar".

Instead of using yo pago, nosotros pagamos, ellos pagan, ellas pagan, ustedes pagan, ---the Filipinoized diction made it 'Gi Pago' hehehe.

====

One notices the meaning of obviously Spanish words have a total different meaning of the original. I'll give you an example.

The term 'Siempre' or 'Siempre Si' means "Always" in Spanish.
In sentence format it would be used as: En el barco de Magellan, los soldados del Rey Espana y comandante Fernando Magellan gustan a compenzan los islas de Malacas y Cathay por la economia de Imperio Hispanidad, Siempre Si."

In this context, the word "Siempre" means "Always."

But in Filipino context, the word 'Siempre' now has acquired a new meaning, which is "Of Course."

When a Filipino speaker asks his father if he wants him to cook food, the father would respond, "Siempre, na gutom na gud ko"
--
In this example, the term siempre has taken up the meaning of 'Of Course'.

--

Again, local diction. :)

I'll give you a specific example.

The phrase, "Ja Voy" or 'Yo Voy'  is used as a declaratory statement. It means "I'm going. I go"

In Spain it is pronounced as (jzho vhoyy). But in Latin America, it would be pronounced as "Yo boy"

One can easily tell the difference from a native Spanish speaker from Spain and a native Spanish speaker from say Argentina, Mexico, Honduras, Peru, Boliva etc.
The Spaniards are light speakers, and carry a 'lisp' in how they speak Spanish. The tongue doesn't extrapolate too much of a strong sound. Emphasis is on the light tone, and speed. Latin American speakers are slower in how how they talk, and utilize a heavy emphasis on tone.

One can compare the American form of English to say, British English.

There is no word in Spanish 'Mampor'

But one can see the idiom that was probably created. A localized diction, most probably.

Mam, the shortened form of Madam. And Por, for the word 'Por Favor' (please).

So if one uses the term, Mampor, to say a superior woman (superior in terms of age, position, and respective clause), then it would make sense.

One can see the idiom of 'en Bola' that is used in Spain, but the meaning makes no sense in Latin America. Word is the same, but the context it is used is foreign.

Localized diction.

I am still struggling and bearing the weight of loss of my own Uncle, who passed on to The Arms of Jesus Christ, and I have spent many nights mourning and crying for my beloved Uncle Roy Rustico. My dear Uncle Bayoyy....

When I read your message, 'te, I was brought to tears because I thought of my own Uncle Bayoy.

And I stand firm, I say to you, there is no real death. The physical death is not the end, but is only the beginning. For those who died in friendship with Jesus Christ, and loved him in life, for sure He is The Loving Savior that will raise them. I believe in this jud. We should not fear the pains that affect the body in the present, sure it hurts, Amen! We pray for the pains. But we are confident---because of the Love that is in Jesus. Who is with us to the ending of the World.

If sakit ang kalibutan, just call on Jesus...

:)

So beautiful...is our faith...

Cool and neat stuff.

Exams went well, the Glory and Honor goes to God.
2nd year is very hard, in all honesty.
Pasalamat lang ko that i have a good study buddy to review with.
Most of all, Christ's Saving Power that strengthens me. O man, i would be no where without Jesus! Jesus FIRST! Jesus Always!
