lol! Ate Ging, i never thought about that since you mentioned it; referring to Tub_L.
Hmm, interesting.

The main difference between Tub_L is that its thick and maintains a form, whereas Ig_T is liquidy in format, loosing thickness/hardness. Right?

hmmm, interesting stuff here~
I realize how much Bisaya i really don't know.
#37002
Another word that I also wanted to share is the word 'Erro' referring to Dog.
The Spanish word for dog is Perro.

I know the term 'itoy' means puppy, just wanted to know if itoy is an authentic Filipino word, or is it based on 'erro'?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the clarification, Ate Raquel. Ya, im just learning this stuff as I read the responses hehehe. Beginner man gud ko ani, hehe.

Tell you the truth, i never even heard of the word 'canupaw, canlawi, cangguha' before reading your post.

Learning more Bisaya just by reading. hehehehe!
Please go on, go on~~

I have a question for you guys, specially to Tito Ben and Ate Ging;

The term Tuba---this refers to coconut wine right?

My question lang is, does the prefix Tub' usually infer 'liquidy' or something than one can drink?

Like the term Tub'Ig, Tub'a.

Is there a definition of the word 'TUB?

Salamat kaayo,
Bran

I think the term Pare is just a Filipinoized version of Compadre, which in this case, developed a different meaning. Since Filipino tend to have a habit of changing the meaning of a Spanish word to suite the local tongue.

EX) The word Siempre which means "Always" in Spanish, but in the Filipino language, Siempre or written in the local form of "Syempre" has taken up a new meaning of "Of Course."

And we know that this is incorrect, since the Spanish word for 'Of Course' is : Por Supuesto/ Supuesto Si.

Same thing for the Spanish greeting : Como Esta?
Filipinoized as: Kummusta Ka. 'Kummu Sta' being the localized form of 'Como Esta?'
The addition of the word 'Ka' signifying a question to another person.

:D
#37006
Interestingly enough there are two meanings for the word Pare/ Pari (both words pronounced Pa Re).

One, the former refers to a friend, "Pare Ko" (like the song, hehehe).

And the latter, referring to a priest.

I can understand where the world Pari (or sometimes spelled pare) coming from the word 'Padre' meaning Father.

Interesting tho.
#37007
Another word that is used in Filipino that is of Hispanic origin is : 'PARE'

The term Pare is used by Filipinos to refer to a friend, close confidant, almost like a brother.
There is no Spanish Word 'Pare' but there is a Spanish word close to it, called "COMPADRE"

Compadre in Spanish means "co-parent" or "other parent"

Same thing for the word 'MARE' referring to a woman's friend, close confidant.
Influenced by the Spanish word 'MADRE' which means 'mother'.

hehehe. cool eh?

lol!

lol, Priscilla, I really admire your ability to try to understand Bisaya, albeit the fact that it isn't your primary language. I highly respect that.
As for me, there are so much of the Bisayan language that I don't understand, I can understand it by ear, but writing it is difficult, as I never had any formal schooling in how to write in Bisayan. Its really interesting trying to learn Bisaya, but its a process.

And im sure, you've enjoyed it eh? I've developed a new-found love for Bisaya, actually these few years. Reading and being exposed to balaks here is definitely a motivating factor in mastering my ancestral tongue.

Tagalog tho, thats a different matter. hehehehe ;)

Do you ever wonder sometimes the life of a pen.
Some of our greatest papers, most productive notes and even letters that touched the heart have been a product of a simple pen. Black, blue, red, or even green.

Do you keep your pens? Or do you throw them away?

I'm just sharing info for the fun of it, Hubag, not trying to impress or trying to be so proper because, its all for fun, bud. Ning relax raman pood ta ari, hehehe. Its a public forum. Ug mo write ko sa paper, promise ko mo use ko ug spell check. hehehe.  ;)   :D

I do stand corrected, I did mean to say Etymology, not Epistemology. Epistemology = the study of knowledge. Etymology is the study of a word. But in all case and purposes, we are studying knowledge. hehehe.

Details are covered, here, and im grateful for your sharp mastery in spelling, pero we are discussing the the word 'CARAMBA'. You're putting too much emphasis on the way I spell words, that have nothing to do with the word 'CARAMBA'. I used the word Pleoiotropistic/Pleiotropic in regards to the development of the Latin Language, and its eventual formation into French, Spanish, Italian (all the romance languages etc). hehehe.

You're focusing on the wrong thing. Focus on the subject matter. You can get lost in the information we're trying to share here. hehehe. Stick to the big picture, else you loose the main point of the discussion. (which you did, unfortunately)

---

You see, Hubag, understanding the word and its meaning is like understanding and reading the Bible. One needs to DISCERN the meaning of the word, and its true meaning, and stick to the main picture. What you are doing is similar to selectively reading a verse, and not reading the entire passage in a particular biblical gospel. hehehe!
Ug mo follow ka ing anang style nimo, ma confused jud ka if you read the bible because the best way to read scripture is to read passage by passage in relation to the entire message of that chapter, or book and then compare it to the message of other books in scripture. hehehe.
Too busy ra pood ka to compare the greek spelling, the latin spelling, or the simplified english version or bisayan spelling. hehehe. Pariho ra jud na!

Its like a pie. Instead of taking the pie, you are picking on the crust. That kind of mentality.

Claro?

And to answer Hubag's post;

The original word is Pleiotropism.
However, we can use pleiotropistic or pleiotropic or pleiotropical.
It's used repetitively in Medical Pharmacology as well as in Systemic Pathology.

I do thank your deep interest in trying to elucidat us on proper spelling. hehehehe.

Response to Candijaynon's question on the epistemology of 'KARAMBA':

My answer:

It is, indeed, Latin-derived.

Anything that is Spanish will be Latin-derived, considering the fact that the present 'Kingdom of Spain' was an Roman Imperial Province known then as 'Colonium Hispanicum'

We need to look at the epistemology of the word 'Ay Caramba' to fully understand the meaning.

First, The word 'Ay' is an Interjection inferring a surprise. Similar to the Filipino interjection of "Hoy!'

The Spanish Word 'Caramba' means an: oath, allegiance. Another term for Caramba in Spanish is the word 'Carajo' , which in English transliteration means: "The look out post of a Spanish galleon/ The Crow's Nest".

Both words "Caramba and Carajo" are derived from the Latin word '"Caraculus".

So the term "Ay Caramba" is an interjection we use in Spanish. To relegate surprise after seeing something, hearing something, or any other negative or positive stimuli that warrants a prompt response from an individual or a group.

Or another example;

Let us define the processes of Neoplastic Growth:

Withint the human chromosomal variant, there in line lies the P-53 gene (TSG = tumor suppressor gene) and the RB (retinoblastic gene) which are responsible for the regulation of genetic compliance and inhibition of pathological tumoric growth, which is a result of multi-faceted pathology; ieg) environmental, chemico-radial,. If the P-53 gene is mutated in anyway, the genetic malformations that can lead to nuclear transcription of erred m-RNA /Protein derivatives will lead to the facilitation of tumoric growth and eventual endothelial damage, thereby will lead to DIC (disseminated intravascular coagulation). The result of the mutation of the P-53 gene's malformation and eventual cascade of pathological processes that will lead to tumoric growth via neoplastogenesis is by right, an example of Pleiotropistic processes. Pleiotropism.

hehe
#37022
I'll give you an example in usage in medical terminology.

Liposarcoma will have pleiotropistic effects if it spreads through the inguinal lymph nodes and the lymphatic systems, perforating into the greater saphenous veins and the lesser saphenous veins. Thereby spreading the tumor to other sites of the body, thereby facilitating the process of metastasis.

Definition ni of Benign Tumor to Malignant Tumor of the Liposarcomic variance.

;)
#37023
Hubag,
Pleiotropistic, is what we use in medical terminology. Referring to pleiotropism. Meaning can affect and have various multi-systemic effects. IN this case, the effect is Latin developing into different regions, with dialect formation.

Sorry, not all of us have time to use spell check. hehehe

Info is there tho. I assure you that. ;)

You have a point. This is a problem with some physicians nowadays in that they acquiesce to patient's requests for drug treatment via anti-psychotics, neuroleptics, anti-convulsants etc because the physician fears that the patient will leave his care for another.

It is unfortunate that there are some Doctors that prescribe drugs because: 1) they get profits, 2) maintain the patient base.

Do note that not all physicians are like this. But there are some.

And there are patients that go from doctor to doctor to get the drugs; because many of these anti-psychotic drugs (Lithium salts, carbamamezapines, etc) are extremely addictive. Plus they have extrapyramidal adverse effects. So they go to a doctor to get their drug medication; and when the physician catches up to their tactics, the patient will change physicians etc etc.

Not all of Medicine is Drug Therapy.

As medical students, we are taught to maintain a pluralistic point of view in medical care. The importance of drug therapy to relieve enzymatic and symptomatic clinical symptoms, but then again we are also taught and undestand the supporative care provided via psychoanalysis and psychologic examination/analysis.

Talking and listening works wonders. hehehehe.

One cannot fully put the blame on the physician for this phenemenon. We have to put the blame on the medical insurance companies that are putting this system in effect. In my personal point of view, everyone, EVERYONE--every American Citizen from child to elderly, from poor to rich should have basic medical care provisions. Everyone. No Ifs ands or Buts.

But that is just my point of view.

Because the way the medical health insurance work the system, physicians right now do not even get paid enough. Say we have a patient come to a physician, for a regular physical exam, a patient's health insurance will cover most of the cost. An average check-up cost will range from $200-$300 per patient. So, naturally, a physician will probably see anywhere from 30-50 pts a day (even more). We can do the math on how much he/she will make in one day. But that doesn't work that way. hehehe

The way health insurance work it, the physician only sees 30-40% of the health insurance coverance payment. So as a result, the physicians have to maintain a healthy patient base in order to maintain the practice and cover over-head cost.
Doctors have to pay the salaries of the receptionists, the nurses, the PAs, the janitors, the montly rent for the office, and of course the Medical Insurance Plan for a physician---which ranges from $100,000-200,000 a year!! YES! A YEAR!

Most of these family practice physicians, psychiatrists,GIs, etc are struggling just to make  the day's meat. And bring home the bread and butter.

One understands the two sides of the picture.
The system in place is just, IMHO, really 'WHACKED'

The Beauty and Imperial Regality of the Spanish Language, as well as other sister Romance languages (namely: Portuguese, French, Italian, Romanian) honor the beauty and provincial language of the Roman Empire. Latin.

The Language of the Caesars, The Legions, the voice of the Senatorium, The Imperium itself.

The variances in French, Portuguese, Romanian, Italian and Spanish is the very manifestation and illustrative witness to the pleoitropistic nature of language being so spread apart. These languages, indeed, share similar tensing, salutations, conjugations, core wordings due to the shear fact that these languages evolved and are based from LATIN.

But evolved, naturally, through the centuries, an effect, these languages is the very illustration of 'Colloquial Diction' and development of 'Dialect'. In essence, that is what these languages are. Dialects. Dialects of Imperial Latin.

John Chapter 6. Read! Read! Read! Discern!

The next day, when they found him, they asked him: "What must we do to perform the the works of God?. Jesus answered to them: This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent" (6:28)... and he will repeat it four times in this chapter, "This is indeed the will of my Father, that all who see the Son and believe in him may have eternal life; and I will raise them up on the last day" (6:40, 28, 35, 47)... four times repeats it, to prepare us for the great announcement we have to believe and do, to eat his flesh and drink his blood!... as hard as it sounds!... just as Jesus will repeat it 8 times!.

Now they ask Jesus for a "sign", as the "manna" was a sign for their ancestors, for 40 years in the wilderness. Jesus tells them that it is the Father who gives the bread from heaven, or the bread of life. So they said to Jesus: "Sir, give us this Bread of Heaven always" (6:30-34).

And here it comes, the Sermon of the Bread of Life, or the Bread of Heaven, in John 6:35-69:

"Jesus said t them: I am the bread of of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty" (6:35). Then the Jews murmured about him because he said "I am the bread of life", and they said, ""Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph?... and then the Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat? (6:35-2)

... And when the multitudes were disputing thisand going away, Jesus did not take a word out of it, rather, he repeats 6 times to them: "Very truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day; for my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them...", read it by yourself in full in JOHN 6:52-58

Now the 72 disciples said: "This saying is hard, how can any one accept it?... because of this many of his disciples turned back and no longer went   about with him" (6:60-66)... it says if for real!... the crows, the 5000, left him thinking he became crazy... now many of the 72 disciples do not accompany him... these were the last days of Jesus on earth, and he was almost left alone, but the 12 apostles were still there!...

... And when the 12 apostles were alone with Jesus, usually he will explain the parable or the symbolism.... but here there is no parable nor symbolism, it is for real!... The 12 were also perplexed, has he gone mad?... but Jesus did not made any explanation, he did not take a word out of it, simply he asked them, "Do you also wish to go away?" (6:67)... if you don't believe me, do like the multitudes and the disciples, go away!... if you want to follow me, you just have to believe what I just told you, and you have to eat my flesh and drink my blood, just as it sounds, real!... and the 12 stayed, guided by the answer of Peter, "Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God"
(JOHN6:68-69).

God Bless, Folks!

God is madly in love with you: On a radio talk show, a man said "God must be crazy, because he died for me, and now becomes bread and wine for me every day", and I couldn't retract it!, because it was a live show. But then, I found Paul in the Bible talking about the foolishness of God, the craziness of God in the Spanish Bible!, so I was not wrong!, "for the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength" (1Cor.1:25)... the "foolishness", the "weakness", there can not be more weakness than to make Himself bread and wine!... God is in love with you. Let yourself be loved.

Go to receive him daily... I adore you Jesus, my sweet prisoner of love in the Eucharist, I give you my whole self and I receive your whole self in me. Help me to love with your heartbeat, that of a passionate lover. Use my hands and feet in searh of souls, for the glory of the Father, with the power of the Spirit. Thank toy my Love. Amen.

If your Church offers you the Eucharist as a symbol, or just as a remembrance, but not as "real", that's not the Church of Jesus Christ... or if that church does not offer you the Eucharist daily, it is not the Church of Jesus... because in the only one Church of Christ, Jesus Himself is offered daily as really real, as the Jesus of Bethlehem or Calvary, praise the Lord!.

St. Paul, commenting Jn.6:53, says to the Christians of Corinth, "he who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks his own condemnation; and for this reason many of you are weak, and ill, and some have died" (1Cor.11:29-30)  is strong St. Paul!: If you eat without "discerning the body", "you eat your own condemnation"!... and still goes own: "for this reason", because you eat the body without "discerning", many of you Christians are weak, and ill, and some have already died spiritually... (read it in full in 1Cor.11:27-30)

'Without Discerning' means, not appreciating, not contemplating what the BODY OF CHRIST truly is! There is no life unless you eat of the Body of Christ.

Christ Jesus Himself said it! And you know it!

Amen!

Papias

"Papias [A.D. 120], who is now mentioned by us, affirms that he received the sayings of the apostles from those who accompanied them, and he, moreover, asserts that he heard in person Aristion and the presbyter John. Accordingly, he mentions them frequently by name, and in his writings gives their traditions [concerning Jesus]. . . . [There are] other passages of his in which he relates some miraculous deeds, stating that he acquired the knowledge of them from tradition" (fragment in Eusebius, Church History 3:39 [A.D. 312]).

Eusebius of Caesarea

"At that time [A.D. 150] there flourished in the Church Hegesippus, whom we know from what has gone before, and Dionysius, bishop of Corinth, and another bishop, Pinytus of Crete, and besides these, Philip, and Apollinarius, and Melito, and Musanus, and Modestus, and, finally, Irenaeus. From them has come down to us in writing, the sound and orthodox faith received from tradition" (Church History 4:21).

Irenaeus

"As I said before, the Church, having received this preaching and this faith, although she is disseminated throughout the whole world, yet guarded it, as if she occupied but one house. She likewise believes these things just as if she had but one soul and one and the same heart; and harmoniously she proclaims them and teaches them and hands them down, as if she possessed but one mouth. For, while the languages of the world are diverse, nevertheless, the authority of the tradition is one and the same" (Against Heresies 1:10:2 [A.D. 189]).

"That is why it is surely necessary to avoid them [heretics], while cherishing with the utmost diligence the things pertaining to the Church, and to lay hold of the tradition of truth. . . . What if the apostles had not in fact left writings to us? Would it not be necessary to follow the order of tradition, which was handed down to those to whom they entrusted the churches?" (ibid., 3:4:1).

...

"It is possible, then, for everyone in every church, who may wish to know the truth, to contemplate the tradition of the apostles which has been made known throughout the whole world. And we are in a position to enumerate those who were instituted bishops by the apostles and their successors to our own timesâ€"men who neither knew nor taught anything like these heretics rave about.

"But since it would be too long to enumerate in such a volume as this the successions of all the churches, we shall confound all those who, in whatever manner, whether through self-satisfaction or vainglory, or through blindness and wicked opinion, assemble other than where it is proper, by pointing out here the successions of the bishops of the greatest and most ancient church known to all, founded and organized at Rome by the two most glorious apostles, Peter and Paul, that church which has the tradition and the faith which comes down to us after having been announced to men by the apostles.

"With this church, because of its superior origin, all churches must agreeâ€"that is, all the faithful in the whole worldâ€"and it is in her that the faithful everywhere have maintained the apostolic tradition" (ibid., 3:3:1â€"2).

Clement of Alexandria

"Well, they preserving the tradition of the blessed doctrine derived directly from the holy apostles, Peter, James, John, and Paul, the sons receiving it from the father (but few were like the fathers), came by God’s will to us also to deposit those ancestral and apostolic seeds. And well I know that they will exult; I do not mean delighted with this tribute, but solely on account of the preservation of the truth, according as they delivered it. For such a sketch as this, will, I think, be agreeable to a soul desirous of preserving from loss the blessed tradition" (Miscellanies 1:1 [A.D. 208]).

Origen

"Although there are many who believe that they themselves hold to the teachings of Christ, there are yet some among them who think differently from their predecessors. The teaching of the Church has indeed been handed down through an order of succession from the apostles and remains in the churches even to the present time. That alone is to be believed as the truth which is in no way at variance with ecclesiastical and apostolic tradition" (The Fundamental Doctrines 1:2 [A.D. 225]).

Cyprian of Carthage

"[T]he Church is one, and as she is one, cannot be both within and without. For if she is with Novatian, she was not with [Pope] Cornelius. But if she was with Cornelius, who succeeded the bishop Fabian by lawful ordination, and whom, beside the honor of the priesthood the Lord glorified also with martyrdom, Novatian is not in the Church; nor can he be reckoned as a bishop, who, succeeding to no one, and despising the evangelical and apostolic tradition, sprang from himself. For he who has not been ordained in the Church can neither have nor hold to the Church in any way" (Letters 75:3 [A.D. 253]).

Athanasius

"Again we write, again keeping to the apostolic traditions, we remind each other when we come together for prayer; and keeping the feast in common, with one mouth we truly give thanks to the Lord. Thus giving thanks unto him, and being followers of the saints, ‘we shall make our praise in the Lord all the day,’ as the psalmist says. So, when we rightly keep the feast, we shall be counted worthy of that joy which is in heaven" (Festal Letters 2:7 [A.D. 330]).

"But you are blessed, who by faith are in the Church, dwell upon the foundations of the faith, and have full satisfaction, even the highest degree of faith which remains among you unshaken. For it has come down to you from apostolic tradition, and frequently accursed envy has wished to unsettle it, but has not been able" (ibid., 29).

Basil the Great

"Of the dogmas and messages preserved in the Church, some we possess from written teaching and others we receive from the tradition of the apostles, handed on to us in mystery. In respect to piety, both are of the same force. No one will contradict any of these, no one, at any rate, who is even moderately versed in matters ecclesiastical. Indeed, were we to try to reject unwritten customs as having no great authority, we would unwittingly injure the gospel in its vitals; or rather, we would reduce [Christian] message to a mere term" (The Holy Spirit 27:66 [A.D. 375]).

Epiphanius of Salamis

"It is needful also to make use of tradition, for not everything can be gotten from sacred Scripture. The holy apostles handed down some things in the scriptures, other things in tradition" (Medicine Chest Against All Heresies 61:6 [A.D. 375]).

Augustine

"[T]he custom [of not rebaptizing converts] . . . may be supposed to have had its origin in apostolic tradition, just as there are many things which are observed by the whole Church, and therefore are fairly held to have been enjoined by the apostles, which yet are not mentioned in their writings" (On Baptism, Against the Donatists 5:23[31] [A.D. 400]).

"But the admonition that he [Cyprian] gives us, ‘that we should go back to the fountain, that is, to apostolic tradition, and thence turn the channel of truth to our times,’ is most excellent, and should be followed without hesitation" (ibid., 5:26[37]).

"But in regard to those observances which we carefully attend and which the whole world keeps, and which derive not from Scripture but from Tradition, we are given to understand that they are recommended and ordained to be kept, either by the apostles themselves or by plenary [ecumenical] councils, the authority of which is quite vital in the Church" (Letter to Januarius [A.D. 400]).

John Chrysostom

"[Paul commands,] ‘Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you have been taught, whether by word or by our letter’ [2 Thess. 2:15]. From this it is clear that they did not hand down everything by letter, but there is much also that was not written. Like that which was written, the unwritten too is worthy of belief. So let us regard the tradition of the Church also as worthy of belief. Is it a tradition? Seek no further" (Homilies on Second Thessalonians [A.D. 402]).

Vincent of Lerins

"With great zeal and closest attention, therefore, I frequently inquired of many men, eminent for their holiness and doctrine, how I might, in a concise and, so to speak, general and ordinary way, distinguish the truth of the Catholic faith from the falsehood of heretical depravity.

"I received almost always the same answer from all of themâ€"that if I or anyone else wanted to expose the frauds and escape the snares of the heretics who rise up, and to remain intact and in sound faith, it would be necessary, with the help of the Lord, to fortify that faith in a twofold manner: first, of course, by the authority of divine law [Scripture] and then by the tradition of the Catholic Church.

"Here, perhaps, someone may ask: ‘If the canon of the scriptures be perfect and in itself more than suffices for everything, why is it necessary that the authority of ecclesiastical interpretation be joined to it?’ Because, quite plainly, sacred Scripture, by reason of its own depth, is not accepted by everyone as having one and the same meaning. . . .

"Thus, because of so many distortions of such various errors, it is highly necessary that the line of prophetic and apostolic interpretation be directed in accord with the norm of the ecclesiastical and Catholic meaning" (The Notebooks [A.D. 434]).

Pope Agatho

"[T]he holy Church of God . . . has been established upon the firm rock of this Church of blessed Peter, the prince of the apostles, which by his grace and guardianship remains free from all error, [and possesses that faith that] the whole number of rulers and priests, of the clergy and of the people, unanimously should confess and preach with us as the true declaration of the apostolic tradition, in order to please God and to save their own souls" (Letter read at fourth session of III Constantinople [A.D. 680]).

Thus Paul tells the Corinthians, "I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions even as I have delivered them to you" (1 Cor. 11:2), and he commands the Thessalonians, "So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by letter" (2 Thess. 2:15). He even goes so far as to order, "Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is living in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us" (2 Thess. 3:6).

To make sure that the apostolic tradition would be passed down after the deaths of the apostles, Paul told Timothy, "[W]hat you have heard from me before many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also" (2 Tim. 2:2). In this passage he refers to the first four generations of apostolic successionâ€"his own generation, Timothy’s generation, the generation Timothy will teach, and the generation they in turn will teach.

The early Church Fathers, who were links in that chain of succession, recognized the necessity of the traditions that had been handed down from the apostles and guarded them scrupulously, as the following quotations show.

Worthy is the, Lamb who was slain
Holy, Holy, is He
Sing a new song, to him who sits on
Heaven's mercy seat

Holy, Holy, Holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come
With all creation I sing
Praise to the King of Kings
You are my everything
And I will adore You

Clothed in rainbows, of living color
Flashes of lightning, rolls of thunder
Blessing and honor, strength and glory and power be
to You the only wise King

Holy, Holy, Holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come
With all creation I sing
Praise to the King of Kings
You are my everything
And I will adore You

Filled with wonder, awestruck wonder
At the mention of your name
Jesus your name is power
Breath, and living water
Such a marvelous mystery
Yeah...

Holy, Holy, Holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come, yeah
With all creation I sing
Praise to the King of Kings
You are my everything
And I will adore You

Beautiful kaayo lagi ning language.

Analyze lang ko, M&M's translation of pagan(english literal sense) to the bnisaya (Pagan) is an example of cultural-linguo interchange. This is a tactic that the Spaniards applied to the Meso-Amerindians as well as to the Malayans of Philippines. Understanding the local word---and the hispanic word/practice, and applying it into action.

This is how religion (Christianity) was spread to the New World.

By building on top of the old, and replacing it with the new.

As for the Roman Catholic Church;

Saints. What is a saint? You know that you and I are all saints. Those that believe and practice faith in Christ, is naturally, and undeniably a saint. A saint is Christ's Elect.

You could be a methodist and you could still be a saint. A baptist, and still be a saint.

The Catholic Church's beatification of men and women who lived and died for Christ (most of whom were martyrs of Christ, missionaries, priests, nuns) is indeed justified. It is a reminder for us, the living, of where and what is the true purpose of life--> which is calling us Heavenbound through Christ Jesus.

The saints are there for us to remember and to make us internalize our own faith. Think about it this way, you and I  or any average Joe will have doubts some time in our lives. That is natural, as we are all flawed. All of us. (Romans 3:23 "For all have have sinned..") But it is a reminder for us to stick to the faith in Christ Jesus.

The saints are merely reminders of us of how we should live our lives. That though we may be attacked, may suffer, may suffer challenges that make us and try to denounce our faith, or succumb to pain and ailment, that our lives and our bodies are not our own. It is the temple of the Holy Spirit. The saints' lives remind us of the main goal. To which is calling us Heavenbound, to which Christ Jesus has provided for us.

I personally do not pray to any saint. Nor should we. When an individual prostrates and prays directly to a statue of the saint, that should be warned. When an individual puts more emphasis on a saint rather than on Christ Jesus---that should be avoided and corrected. Imporing divine assistance should be towards God, not anything else.

Catholics, being human, some will fall into sway, some will err, of course, we all err. None is perfect. Kinsa man perfect diay? hehehe
Wa Yamo :)

Si Jesu Cristo may perfect. Ang Ginoo may perfect.

Man will influence man. That is given. That is natural.

When Israel was conquored by the Egyptians, they adopted some practices by the pagan Egyptians. It was adopted, and however, that pracice became Montheistic.

When Israel was conquored by Babylon, and then later by the Persians led by the anointed Cyrus, Israelites and Hebrews adopted some aspect of the Zoarastrian religion of Persia. THough the Israelites adopted some aspects, it did not change their faith nor their religion. For their religion is ancient. The manner of worship may have changed, but the Faith in which was expressed through worship stayed the same.

We see this in the building of Solomon's temple, its rebuilding, its glorification of God.

It is only when people lose their faith and stick and practice religion that forms a non-saving faith.

You may go to church (any denomination), and have no faith. But you go to church because you are accustomed to it. Does it mean you are saved? Of course not! Without faith, there is no salvation.

Christ reminds us of this of the pharisees. And of the Old Temple. Reminding us of how it   has lost its way, since the days of Solomon the Wise, who built the temple. Laying down the construction of the temple.

To reiterate again, man will influence man.
It is up to the man to stick to the faith in Christ.

Have the Filipinos really left the pagan ways? Or were pagan practices have still been continued and the pagan gods and dieties replaced with the so-called catholic saints? It was easier to convert the pagans this way... Just for example celebrating the natal day on December when scientific proof tells us us that Jesus Christ was most likely born on summer. Putting up a christmas tree is a pagan practice, theis came from the Druids, who were the Druids? They were animists, they worshipped trees... I can mention more..

Paganism is the sarficial, the belief and adoration of the pagan gods. It is when an individual prays to a deity that is not The Lord Our God.
The old Hellenistic Religions of the past, had over 15 gods, and praying to them and offering sacrifice to their statues. It is pagan because they are doing so in their full knowledge of worshiping a deity that is not The Lord Our God.
hehehe.

When Christians use christmas trees, or celebrate Christ's Day on December the 25th, it is not for the celebration of the solstice, tho hostirically it may  have been placed on that date, because the conversion of Rome to Christianity was necessitated through the cultural processes that would faciliate the conversion process. The goal, my friend, the ultimate goal was to replace the old false religion to the real and TRUE religion. Which is in Christ Jesus.

How Mighty is His Name!

Interprations of historical dictums and specifics can undeniably lead a person to focus on the small aspects, not the Bigger Picture. Pick and pointing man na. Some people that think that way, I just think, that it precludes one to make judgements and not focus on the main and Big Picture.

Christmas Day is about Christ's Birth. It matters not on the date, we placed that date so that we remember the birth of the Savior. That is the true spirit of the season. Christmas is about Christ. Not presents, not soltice, not history, not arguing, not fighting, BUT about Christ.

Because as you see, we are men. Men, by nature is flawed. So therefore, some aspects of our religion will be flawed. That cannot be helped. But the Faith that is practiced THROUGH our religion, is perfect. And therefore, when we pray, when we reiterate our faith through our religion, religion and man is perfected in the Faith. hehehehe.

Mga igsoon, hinaut nga kita magtinabangay sa kanunay ug tanang panahon. Lingion nato ang atong mga igsoon nga wa intawon pud jamo.

Humbling kaayo ning message, and very powerful one as it reminds us of what Christ demands of us. It shows to us not our own interpretation of what Jesus Is. He is not money, he is not luck, he is not natural occurances.

Christ Jesus is Absolute and Total Love. Above ALL Things. Seen and Unseen.

And though how Great and Powerful is Our Savior!!!!
His Heart of Hearts and Love of Loves is soo PURE!
How Mighty is The Lord, but it NEVER ceases to amaze me and to make me ponder that this Great Lord God of ours---who is Creator of All, Lord of All, has a heart that Loves.

Even the smallest of us, children, even babies that are unborn, he still Loves them. Completely and Absolutely.

Give Until It Hurts!

YES!

Did not Our Lord Jesus Christ give himself to the Cross?
And hurt it did, Amen!

Because he Loved us....
GIVE UNTIL IT HURTS!

Because HE DOES LOVE us!

Observe lang ko, and ning smile pood ko. The mother recieved the Body of Christ, and the priest, blessed the little baby with a sign of the cross on the baby's forehead. Ning smile pood ang baby. hehe

Observation lang for me, and I did talk to my friends about it today.

There are two concepts we talked about; one is Superstition and two is regimen.

Superstition--excessive belief in fear or magic, especially foreign or fantastical ideas, regarded as 'Old Wives' Tale' etc. Now a coleague of mine, Vince, a member of the AMSA-Surgical Chapter, brought up another point of view--regarding the differences between Superstition and Regimen.

He pointed out that when we go into the Surgical Lab or in the hospital floor, and we tend to observe this in the Surgeons as well as Surgical Interns, they tend to have a regimen when in the surgical floor or in the surgical anatom lab. Some of us have a technique in suturing, a technique in opening a body, a technique in how we arrange our tools, a technique in how we make a Y-incission, a technique in how we even wash our surgical tools (And Yes, this is true--because I myself have a way of cleaning my scalpels and cranial saw). Vince also pointed out that he even observes how some of us---when we're finished surgical lab--after 4-5 hours in lab, we even have a way, a technique, a regimen, an established custom in how we wash our hands. A method in how we soap our fingers, clean the inter-phalangial spaces, rinse with water, soap up again, rinse with water, etc. And I do get what he's trying to say.

It isn't superstition, but its a regimented process that has been established after months, or even years of doing the same thing, over and over again. Because, naturally, we tend to stick with what works. Well most of us---we're not referring to pathological cases, hehehehe.

Superstition, if observed in that point, can influence how people act. Either it be knocking on wood, starting to be scared and start ushering when its dark and night time because a person believes in spirits and harmful ghosts etc. Its all superstition.

The main difference here, is that though the actions are influenced in these two cases (reference towards regimen and superstition). The other former is based on a scientific and idea that is backed by knowledge, and legimated; the other is based on fear, on fear of the uknown, on imagination).

Superstition, a belief or practice generally regarded as irrational and as resulting from ignorance or from fear of the unknown. It implies a belief...

Again, I agree with this 110%.

Faith in Christ and Christ ALONE.

Everything else seems mundane and secondary.

Father Of Strength

There are times that we weak and needing strength, and trust me--these times are demanding.

However, tho we may feel sluggish in our works, being remunerated in our demands of life, what ever it may be, there is never a time that we are by ourself.

Even when a man, sits in a medica lounge by himself from the early hours of the morning, say--around 1:22 am, I know that i am not alone.

Because He is with me, all the days of my life. And even unto the ending of the World, Christ Jesus will not leave me. How do I know? Because He told us so:

["Let your conduct be without covetousness, and be content with such things that you have, for he has said, 'I will never leave you, nor forsake you,' so that we may boldly say, 'The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do to me.']
--Hebrews 13:5-6

Be justified lagi! For Who shall I fear? The Lord Jesus Christ is my life and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the protector of my life, who shall I be afraid?
None. But The Lord God Himself, that is who I love and fear.

A priest once told me a personal testament that revolved around the issue of superstition.

One time, the priest talked to people of the church, one who was a devout christian, living by the word, and a hard reader of the bible as well as observer of christian Apostolic Tradition. The other, had a swaying faith. Believed, but also was swayed by concepts of good luck, bad luck, superstitious things. etc.

Do you know what happened to the person that was superstitious? This person was plagued by nightmares, and a doubting faith.

She was plagued because she openly chose to believe in superstition. She believed and so, she was constantly worried about good or bad things, etc, a sad instance, actually. She was affected because she believed in it, instead of putting TOTAL faith in Jesus Christ and in the True Oness of Church Doctrine, she followed old, time-honored superstitious bullcrap (pardon my French).

Whereas the other woman, who did not believe in superstition, but put TOTAL trust in Christ. Was never affected or tormented in the mind.

Just remember that Satan, the devil, only affects and influences the individual when he or she chooses to put more emphasis on its power, rather than on the Saving Grace of Christ Jesus and His Father in Heaven.

Call on Christ Jesus.
the legions of fallen devils quake before HIS MIGHTY Name.
Christ Jesus!

I personally Do Not believe in superstition nor superstitious beliefs. The notions of diwata-diwata, etc. Its rubbish, conjurous that bears no weight nor credibility but heresay. It is the manifest of a weak faith and a proliferative imagination.

If an individual can believe in spirits of waterfalls, fairies, mermaids, etc, why limit your faith to such privy council?

A saving faith, is not based on superstition, nor trees or materialistic aspect. A saving faith is based on the TOTAL TRUST in The Lord Jesus Christ. Who is the Salvation of All things, for those who trust and believe in Him, who cometh from The Father.

Superstition, and false beliefs of the like are animistic, idolatrous, and heathenous in its didacticum. It is the very antithesis of Christian Core Belief (either you be Catholic, Orthodox or Protestant).

God The Most High is in Control of All Things.
He is the Author, The Finisher of Things, The Justification, The Sustainer.
Fact.

For anyone who puts too much emphasis of superstitious BS, it takes the Glory from God The Most High. Which is, in totality with scripture and by the tradition of Christianity that has been taught through the ages---as not only blasphemous, but heathenous. It is similar to the arts of the pagans: Egyptians, Babylonians, Baalists, Sodomites, Gamorites etc.

Trust in Jesus Christ.
For all the Power and Authority is His.

These types of practices are extremely dangerous because they open the minds of the practitioners to the influence of the devil. 1 Peter 5:8 warns us to “be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

We are told:

“See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ. For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority”

(Colossians 2:8-10)

As a sinner who is saved by Christ, I give my own testament in regards to this message:

We rebel in our own way, either it be rebelling to the plans and words of our parents. Our mothers and fathers. I know that all of us are guilty of this in our own way. During our adolescent years, or even in the present. For our moments when we rebel to our parents even though, though we known in the deep core of our being, that their preference and request is correct and we, in err, we still do it anway.

And only, only do we know of our own mistakes after the fact.

So you see---brethren, that is an example of rebellion that comes from internal discourse. Its the same, when we break the Laws that God requires us to complete, that he demands us to honor. For it was written and spoken of His own hand and mouth!

For who has the right to question the Laws of the Most High?

Has he not shown us his undying and imcomparable love? By sending His only Begotten Son, Our Savior Lord, Jesus Christ?

So let us, put away our rebellious nature.
Try--truly do try--in ceasing the rebellion against God.

Begone Satan!
IN JESUS CHRIST's Name!
I command you, BEGONE!

Even Before You Sigh

Even before you sigh in anguish,
before a fiber of hair falls from your head,
a tear falls from your eyes,
before you wake in the morning,
before you cry out in despair,
before you laugh in glee,
before you smile in response to a happy moment.

Our Heavenly Father already knows our reaction, our responses, our testaments.

For it is written:

O LORD, you have searched me
       and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.

3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.

4 Before a word is on my tongue
you know it completely, O LORD.

5 You hem me inâ€"behind and before;
you have laid your hand upon me.

6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.

7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?

8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, [a] you are there.

9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,

10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.

11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,"

12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.

13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.

Psalms 139: 1-13

---

All that is to know, He has already known, even before it has come to pass.
For He is the Author, The Cup of Salvation.
The Firmament of All Things.

So, we gloriously cry out unto the arms of the Eternal Father,
who knows our daily goings, our thoughts--the hidden and expressed.
Conscious, preconcious and subconcious.

Glory To God In The Highest~

that is true, Taga Tigbao!

We, in our own individuality, are called to be hearers and doers of the Word of God. There is nothing, absolutley nothing wrong, in being a Layman. Priest and Laymen have very similar complementary roles. Both make up the Body of Christ, which is His Church.

So let us all hear with not only our ears, but with our hearts.

To hear His Word. And to live by His Word, to the best of our ability.

God Bless All of Us.
May His Word Burn In Our Hearts!

Excessive Freedom leads to Rebellion.

We are reminded that the spirit of rebellion is the sentiment of antagonism towards Order.

God is a God of Order. Divine Providence organized the heavens and the galaxies, and from chaos put order into things. Formed light from darkness.

The spirit of rebellion and hostility is not from the Father, but of the Devil Satan.

Who is the great protester. Who protested and declared war on the The Throne of the Most High God.

Remember that. That scheming devil..
May the Lord God Rebuke him.

Let me share with you something funny that occurred last 4th with one of my patients.
I went to check this particular patient, 63 years old white American lady, she was in bed watching the news about Michael Jackson.

As I was checking her 3 lumen central line inserted through her right jugular vein, so I can infuse her next dose of IV antibiotic, she looked at me and say, "Can I ask you a question?"

I said, "Sure, go ahead" I was thinking maybe it's a medical question as I'm used to that though.

She said, "What will Elvis Presley say to Michale Jackson, his son-in-law, when they meet?"
I was dumb-founded for a while, I did not expect her to ask me that question.

Then I said, "I really don't know, possibly, Elvis still holds unto his title as King of rock and roll while Jackson will stick to his title as King of Pop, they might as well have a showdown"
My patient just cracked up laughing. hahahaha

hehehe, thats a cute testimony, states. Its good to know that you find comfort and joy even in your night shift at the hospital. hehehe.
Cute testimony.

Best,
Lorenzo

Superstition is based on the ignorant faith of an object having magical powers. Another word for superstition is idolatry. The Bible does not support the idea of things occurring by chance, but nothing is done outside of God’s sovereign control. Either He causes or allows everything in keeping with His divine plan (Acts 4:28, Ephesians 1:10).
