Bible Study / The Road That Leads To God
August 25, 2009, 02:09:51 PM
Answer: The existence of so many religions and the claim that all religions lead to God without question confuses many who are earnestly seeking the truth about God, with the end result sometimes being that some despair of ever reaching the absolute truth on the subject. Or they end up embracing the universalist claim that all religions lead to God. Of course, skeptics also point to the existence of so many religions as proof that either you cannot know God or that God simply does not exist.

Romans 1:19-21 contains the biblical explanation for why there are so many religions. The truth of God is seen and known by every human being because God has made it so. Instead of accepting the truth about God and submitting to it, most human beings reject it and seek their own way to understand God. But this leads not to enlightenment regarding God, but to futility of thinking. Here is where we find the basis of the “many religions.”

Many people do not want to believe in a God who demands righteousness and morality, so they invent a God who makes no such requirements. Many people do not want to believe in a God who declares it impossible for people to earn their own way to heaven. So they invent a God who accepts people into heaven if they have completed certain steps, followed certain rules, and/or obeyed certain laws, at least to the best of their ability. Many people do not want a relationship with a God who is sovereign and omnipotent. So they imagine God as being more of a mystical force than a personal and sovereign ruler.

The existence of so many religions is not an argument against God's existence or an argument that truth about God is not clear. Rather, the existence of so many religions is demonstration of humanity's rejection of the one true God. Mankind has replaced Him with gods that are more to their liking. This is a dangerous enterprise. The desire to recreate God in our own image comes from the sin nature within usâ€"a nature that will eventually “reap destruction” (Galatians 6:7-8).

Do all religions lead to God? Actually they do. All but one leads to His judgment. Only oneâ€"Christianityâ€"leads to His forgiveness and eternal life. No matter what religion one embraces, everyone will meet God after death (Hebrews 9:27). All religions lead to God, but only one religion will result in God's acceptance, because only through His salvation through faith in Jesus Christ can anyone approach Him with confidence. The decision to embrace the truth about God is important for a simple reason: eternity is an awfully long time to be wrong. This is why right thinking about God is so critical.

Bible Study / How Do I Get Right With God?
August 25, 2009, 02:05:14 PM
Question: "How do I get right with God?"

Answer: In order to get “right” with God, we must first understand what is “wrong.” The answer is sin. “There is no one who does good, not even one” (Psalm 14:3). We have rebelled against God’s commands; we “like sheep, have gone astray” (Isaiah 53:6).

The bad news is that the penalty for sin is death. “The soul who sins is the one who will die” (Ezekiel 18:4). The good news is that a loving God has pursued us in order to bring us salvation. Jesus declared His purpose was “to seek and to save what was lost” (Luke 19:10), and He pronounced His purpose accomplished when He died on the cross with the words, “It is finished!” (John 19:30).

Having a right relationship with God begins with acknowledging your sin. Next comes a humble confession of your sin to God (Isaiah 57:15) and a determination to forsake the sin. “For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved” (Romans 10:10).

This repentance must be accompanied by faith, specifically, faith that Jesus’ sacrificial death and miraculous resurrection qualify Him to be your Savior. “…if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). Many other passages speak of the necessity of faith, such as John 20:27; Acts 16:31; Galatians 2:16; 3:11, 26; and Ephesians 2:8.

Being right with God is a matter of your response to what God has done on your behalf. He sent the Savior, He provided the sacrifice to take away your sin (John 1:29), and He offers you the promise: “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Acts 2:21).

A beautiful illustration of repentance and forgiveness is the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32). The younger son wasted his father’s gift in shameful sin (verse 13). When he acknowledged his wrongdoing, he decided to return home (verse 18). He assumed he would no longer be considered a son (verse 19), but he was wrong. The father loved the returned rebel as much as ever (verse 20). All was forgiven, and a celebration ensued (verse 24). God is good to keep His promises, including the promise to forgive. “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).

If you want to get right with God, here is a sample prayer. Remember, saying this prayer or any other prayer will not save you. It is only trusting in Christ that can save you from sin. This prayer is simply a way to express to God your faith in Him and thank Him for providing for your salvation. "God, I know that I have sinned against you and am deserving of punishment. But Jesus Christ took the punishment that I deserve so that through faith in Him I could be forgiven. I place my trust in You for salvation. Thank You for Your wonderful grace and forgiveness - the gift of eternal life! Amen!"

Answer: Depression is a widespread condition, affecting millions of people, Christians and non-Christians alike. Those suffering from depression can experience intense feelings of sadness, anger, hopelessness, fatigue, and a variety of other symptoms. They may begin to feel useless and even suicidal, losing interest in things and people that they once enjoyed. Depression is often triggered by life circumstances, such as a loss of job, death of a loved one, divorce, or psychological problems such as abuse or low self-esteem.

The Bible tells us to be filled with joy and praise (Philippians 4:4; Romans 15:11), so God apparently intends for us all to live joyful lives. This is not easy for someone suffering from situational depression, but it can be remedied through God's gifts of prayer, Bible study and application, support groups, fellowship among believers, confession, forgiveness, and counseling. We must make the conscious effort to not be absorbed in ourselves, but to turn our efforts outward. Feelings of depression can often be solved when those suffering with depression move the focus from themselves to Christ and others.

Clinical depression is a physical condition that must be diagnosed by a physician. It may not be caused by unfortunate life circumstances, nor can the symptoms be alleviated by one's own will. Contrary to what some in the Christian community believe, clinical depression is not always caused by sin. Depression can sometimes be caused by a physical disorder that needs to be treated with medication and/or counseling. Of course, God is able to cure any disease or disorder. However, in some cases, seeing a doctor for depression is no different than seeing a doctor for an injury.

There are some things that those who suffer from depression can do to alleviate their anxiety. They should make sure that they are staying in the Word, even when they do not feel like it. Emotions can lead us astray, but God's Word stands firm and unchanging. We must maintain strong faith in God and hold even more tightly to Him when we undergo trials and temptations. The Bible tells us that God will never allow temptations into our lives that are too much for us to handle (1 Corinthians 10:13). Although being depressed is not a sin, one is still accountable for the response to the affliction, including getting the professional help that is needed. “Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praiseâ€"the fruit of lips that confess his name” (Hebrews 13:15).

Michael Jackson died of "lethal levels" of the powerful anesthetic propofol, according to a search warrant affidavit unsealed today in Houston.

The court documents quote the L.A. County coroner's office as reaching that conclusion after an autopsy of the pop star.

The documents address one of the major unanswered questions surrounding Jackson's death. But they also raise new questions about how Jackson was treated, particularly in the hours before his death.

Conrad Murray, Jackson's personal doctor, told detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department that he had been treating Jackson for insomnia for about six weeks. He had been giving Jackson 50 milligrams of propofol every night using an intravenous line, according to the court records.

But Murray told detectives that he feared Jackson was forming an addiction and began trying to wean the pop star off the drugs. He lowered the dosage to 25 milligrams and mixed it with two other sedatives, lorazepam and midazolam. On June 23, two days before Jackson's death, he administered those two medications and withheld the propofol.

On the morning Jackson died, Murray tried to induce sleep without using propofol, according to the affidavit. He said he gave Jackson valium at 1:30 a.m. When that didn't work, he said, he injected lorazepam intravenously at 2 a.m. At 3 a.m., when Jackson was still awake, Murray administered midazolam.

Over the next few hours, Murray said he gave Jackson various drugs. Then at 10:40 a.m., Murray administered 25 milligrams of propofol after Jackson repeatedly demanded the drug, according to the court records.

Although Murray acknowledged to police that he administered propofol, authorities said they could find no evidence that he had purchased, ordered or obtained the medication under his medical license or Drug Enforcement Administration tracking number. However, police detectives saw about eight bottles of propofol in the house along with other vials and pills that had been prescribed to Jackson by Dr. Murray, Dr. Arnold Klein and Dr. Allan Metzger.

Other drugs that were confiscated in the search included valium, tamsulosin, lorazepam, temazepam, clonazepam, trazodone and tizanidine. They also found propofol in Murray’s medical bag. Murray told detectives that he was not the first doctor to administer the powerful anesthetic to Jackson.

At least two unidentified doctors gave Jackson propofol in Germany. Between March and April 2009, Murray said he called Las Vegas doctor David Adams at Jackson’s request to arrange for Adams to administer propofol. Murray said he was present at a cosmetologist’s office, where Adams used propofol to sedate Jackson. Since he began treating Jackson, Murray said he repeatedly asked the pop star what other physicians were treating Jackson and what drugs they were prescribing. But Jackson declined to provide the information, Murray told authorities.

Murray said he noticed injection marks on Jackson’s hands and feet. When he asked Jackson about them, the pop star told him he had been given a “cocktail” to help him. In addition to Murray, authorities subpoenaed medical records from Dr. Arnold Klein, Dr. Allan Metzger and Dr. David Adams, the affidavit states. They also asked for medical records from Dr. David Slavitt, who conducted the independent medical examination of Jackson for Anschutz Entertainment Group, Dr. Randy Rosen and nurse practitioner Cherilyn Lee. They also subpoenaed records from Dr. Mark Tadrissi, who stored medical records with Adams.

Jackson’s doctor told authorities he left Jackson’s bedside for no more than two minutes before returning to find the pop star not breathing. Jackson reportedly fell asleep at 10:40 a.m.

Murray said after monitoring Jackson for 10 minutes, he left to use the restroom. When he returned and saw Jackson wasn’t breathing at 11 a.m. He immediately began attempting to revive Jackson, administering CPR as well as a drug to reverse the effects of the sedative. But police are questioning that account. Cellphone records for the morning of June 25 show Murray made three separate phone calls for approximately 47 minutes beginning at 11:18 a.m.

He called Jackson’s personal assistant to request that they send security upstairs. After a few minutes without a response, Murray told authorities he ran downstairs to the kitchen. He asked the chef to send Jackson’s eldest son, Prince Jackson, upstairs. Murray said he continued CPR and waited for the arrival of paramedics.
Murray has already acknowledged obtaining and administering propofol to Jackson the morning that the pop star died. In an interview with police, Murray told them that he had left Jackson alone under the influence of the medication to make telephone calls to his Houston office and family members.

When he returned, he discovered Jackson was not breathing. He performed CPR, and one of Jackson’s staff members called 911. The 50-year-old pop star was rushed to UCLA Medical Center, where he was later declared dead. Much of the investigation has focused on propofol -- a drug typically administered by anesthesiologists during surgery -- and whether Murray’s decision to give it to Jackson as a sleep aid outside a hospital setting reaches a level of negligence required for an involuntary manslaughter charge.

I agree with you guys, especially with the economic situation this time. Finding a job that pays the bills and stimulates the mind at the same time.

Finding a job and having a hobby in the side to milk one's creative juices is great.
In my field, there are individuals who are great physicians and do what is expected of them, and more. But when they hang their white coats in the closet and come home, they have hobbies that relieves their stress and/or stimulate their secondary interests.

I know surgeons who are artists, poets, gardners and outdoors advocates in the side.

Well in my opinion I think I know now how to detect a "bad" filipina or a good one. I think is too obvious when a filipina is just there for money but some foreigners (overall the ones that marry bar girls ¬¬) seem blind.

I think with an easy check they could know if she is clean or not but I do not know why they do not do them. They just say "no she is not like the others"

I am 25 yo. My gf is 23 yo, she is filipina and lives in Cebu. We never were interested in each other, all that happened between us was unnespected for both of us.
She earns the minimum filipino wage right now.

I do not send her money and she never asked me for a peso even beeing there.

I told her I won´t marry soon that I need years before that and she didn´t go for other one.

She expends money from her little wage to call me to my spanish mobile and never told me to payback.

She is not interested in come to europe by the moment. She seems happy with her life and she says me "I am poor but I am happy here"

She refused from me a work I found to her in call center with more money by far than her current wage. Her reason was that in that work she would earn more money but she won´t have a good shift to chat to me cause of the difference of time.

She doesn´t know how much I earn and never asked about it.

Even earning only the minimum wage she has spent quite amount in things for me (unexpected presents overall)

Even borrowing her my old laptop that is not brand new by far (5 years old) she seemed the happiest person in the world and never requested me to buy a brand new one as others do.

She knows I am not looking a future house wife to maintain and that she will have to work as well as me.

When we started to break ice between us she told me what she likes to do when she is on spare time and I found was exactly what I like but I never told her I liked those things.

I think these all signs are good so I think I am safe with her.

Obviously maybe for me is different cause I am young and not and old man. But if people there would think with the brain instead of the ..... hehehe (sorry I did not know other way to explain it) then in some time nobody will hear again "filipinas marry foreigners for money" cause those girls wouldn´t have a chance.

A scammer or a filipina that is looking for money or leaving the country will hurry in all (soon request money for any reason, when is the visa ready, when will you marry me? etc etc) all this things happen in a short time the most and in a medium time in the rest but they show their real face soon :)

This is my opinion of this :P

About why a filipina gf. I wasn´t looking for it. It all happened by surprise.
But I like how she is. How she treat me. And I like her cause she likes the same things I like so we enjoy together always.

Take care all :P

Regards from Spain

Como Estas?!

Hope your stay el Las Filipinas was great!
:)

Based on Isaiah 53:1-5

1 Who has believed our message
and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?

2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot,
and like a root out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.

3 He was despised and rejected by men,
a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering.
Like one from whom men hide their faces
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4 Surely he took up our infirmities
       and carried our sorrows,
yet we considered him stricken by God,
       smitten by him, and afflicted.

5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
       he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.

Things to Remember about Gossip

Gossip is as sinful as murder and will suffer the same consequences unless there is repentance (Rom. 1:32).
God holds you accountable to your words (Matt. 12:36-37).
The person who gossips to you about others, also gossips to others about you.
Gossip & slander disqualifies persons for spiritual leadership (1 Tim. 3:11, Jas. 3:2).
Gossip often masks as pretentious concerns for others.
Gossip often thrives upon secrecy. Where secrecy is removed, gossip is hampered.
Gossip always contributes to a problem and never to a solution.
Gossip always distorts and exaggerates, and is never a reliable source of truth.
Those who gossip & slander are not in right fellowship with God (Rom. 1:28-32).
Those who gossip rarely get answers to prayer, and often face persistent, unexplainable problems (Psalms 66:18, Prov. 21:23, Prov. 6:12-15).

“Slander” is a word that has an interesting origin. It comes from the word “Devil.” According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, slander means “malicious talk; to spread damaging information; to defame; to speak ill of.” Is it no wonder where slander derives it’s name? Slander is the work of the Devil, and those who slander are on his team. In fact the Bible says that Satan is called the “accuser of the brethren” (Rev. 12:10). Are you an accuser of the brethren too? If so, even though it may not be your intention, you are being used an agent of the Devil! According to scripture, any Christian who’s mouth is out of control does not have a right relationship with God. “If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight reign on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless” (James 1:26).

“Gossip” is derived from the idea of “whispering.” According to the same dictionary, “gossip” means “To indulge in idle talk or rumors about others; spreading of sensational stories.” Funk and Wagnals dictionary defines it as “Idle, or malicious talk about others.” As we can see, gossip is a close cousin to slander, and God’s Word places both in the same cupboard as murder and other wickedness -- sins worthy of death.

Let me ask, as a Christian do you occasionally slip up and commit a murder here or there? Or how about theft -- do you occasionally burglarize a home or steal things from the store? You may think this is silly to ask. Of course, a Christian lifestyle doesn’t behave that way. But how about gossip or slander? Do you engage in idle talk or rumors about others? Do you participate in bad-mouthing or spreading rumors about others? According to the Bible, which sin is less severe? Murder or gossip? I’m sure you get the message. Paul said, BOTH are sins equally worthy of death.

The Apostle Peter, also used murder as a comparison with another, sometimes under-rated sin. “But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters” (1 Peter 4:15). Notice that a “busybody” is placed in the same company as “murderers, thieves, and evildoers.” The dictionary defines a busybody as “a meddler; a person who seeks confidential information about others; a snoop; a nosy person.”

A busybody is another close relative to gossip -- a person who meddles in the affairs of others. They are like a peeping-tom who snoops and spies. A busybody is the investigator for the gossips and rumormongers, seeking to uncover sensational details and to whisper the latest news. Sometimes busybodies are persons who have too much time on their hands, with nothing better to do than to talk too much.

“Besides, they get into the habit of being idle and going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things they ought not to”
(1 Tim. 5:13).

Romans 1:28-32
“Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done.
1:29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice. They are gossips,
1:30 Slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant, and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;
1:31 they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless.
1:32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these things but also approve of those who practice them.”

The most inspiring man that I met in my life was Father Mark Hoffman.
My Catholic College Chaplain.
He was the one that responsible for EVANGELIZING me :)
He introduced me to Catholic Retreats, religious retreats for men of faith.
I even attended a collegiate conference for men interested in priesthood. :)

Through him, by the Grace of the HOLY SPIRIT who works through Fr. Hoffman, I was instilled and inspired in the Spirit to finish my Catholic Confirmation.

And through him, I met and was introduced to Bishop Donald Trautman, the Bishop of the Diocese of Erie County, Pennsylvania.

It was an powerful experience. To meet and talk to my Bishop. And most of all, was when he prayed for me, blessing me as I make direction in my life. To enter medicine.

Bishop Trautman once told me, "You know, Albrando, two men in life stand out. A priest and a doctor. One doctors the mind soul, to the blessings and promises of Christ. The other doctors the body and heals it. I pray you make the right decision in your life, my son, what ever it is, always ask blessings and providential guidance from Christ Jesus."

His message to me has stuck to me.

Meeting him, I was re-awakened into the Church.

And the HOLY SPIRIT has been a significant and powerful factor in my life. :)

luuy pood intawn reading your story, indaymen.

Maka hilak pood ko kai i remember my Lolo Ciano when he was living with us back in 2003-2005.

When Lolo was with us I would help him walk up the stairs from his bedroom downstairs to take his daily shower, help him toothbrush, get dressed etc etc. Naka feel pood ko how it is like to care for my lolo, very time consuming and ordeal oriented pero i enjoyed and cherished it because he was my dear lolo. That time Lolo was still 77 years old. Maka converse pood ko nija in bisaya and maka katawa pood mi because Lolo would always make jokes about his condition kai maka lingaw pood ba. Si lolo is paralyzed on his left side of his body; pero his right side is still strong. Not to mention that he was a very strong and muscular man when he was younger. He stands at 5'11 and weighed over 200 lbs when he was younger, very masculado jud. Even at age 77 he still had muscles on his right arm, and mo exercise ijang lawas to stretch his legs etc.

One time galing, ning ingoon si lolo nako, as I had my right arm around his shoulders to help him walk up our stairs to the 2nd floor of the house to the bathroom, "Doy, ayaw jud kalimot nako ha? Kai pinangga baja ka nako, Doy."

When he said that to me, i could not even staand straight kai ning hilak ko. Ingoon baja si lolo nako, when i started to cry, "Ajaw pag hilak, doy, kai mo hilak pood ko. Ajaw na na lang hilak..."

And at that we both cried....

I really bonded with my Lolo. LOVE him so much....

But even with that when we got up to the bathroom naka katawa napodo mi kai mo joke joke pood si lolo nako. Oh man we joked and talked about everything. Ask pood sija nako about ug naa ba kono koy 'mga girl friends" hahahaha!

lol! yes i loved Fr. Corapi's personal testimony on how he became a priest. How he was a self-made millionaire, and then how he lost everything, how he lived his life as a homeless vagabond for several years, until that calling hit him.

What's inspiring is how he used his skills as a business man, a people's person and utilizes that in his Priestly Ministry.

He's such a great priest, imho.

His voice thunders our attention, and at the same time, his ministerial examples and daily message is so great, inspiring and thought provoking.

He once said in a program, which i remember piercing my soul, "Christ CARRIED THE CROSS! For him? NO! He carried it for YOU. For ME, For all that would come to pass."

"You think your life is hard? CHRIST DIED FOR YOU! Even before you were born. So think again about giving up on life, we all have our own CROSSES to carry. We should walk with our crosses in the direction of CHRIST."

:)

Glad to know you also listen to Fr. Corapi. I do love to watch EWTN shows and specials from time to time. Specially their Study of the BLESSED WORD.

Who Was Simon Peter?

When we first read about Peter in the gospel accounts, we notice right away that he was not a strong character. He seemed to be a weak, wishy-washy person by nature. But God has a plan to change his people, so when Peter was brought to the Lord Jesus Christ by his brother Andrew, Jesus told him, "’You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas’ (which, when translated, is Peter)," meaning he would become a rock--strong and mighty--through the work of Jesus Christ in his life (John 1:42).

We also know that Peter was a sinner, as he himself acknowledged. When he realized Jesus’ role in causing a miraculous number of fish to be caught, Peter told Jesus, "Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!" Confronted by the glorious manifestation of the power of Jesus Christ, Peter was filled with a profound consciousness of his own sinfulness and of Jesus’ divinity. In essence, he was telling Jesus, "Lord, I am too unholy and sinful to be in your presence. Depart from me! I am just nothing." But Jesus didn’t leave Peter, because God had ordained that Peter would become a fisher of men, one who would lead many souls to Christ.

Peter also had the distinction of being the only apostle--indeed, the only human being, other than the Lord Jesus Christ--to ever walk on water, as we read in Matthew 14:25-31. And Peter was the apostle who made the good confession that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, when Jesus asked his disciples, "Who do you say that I am?" in Caesarea Philippi. And in Matthew 16:18 Jesus told Peter, " You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church," meaning the church is built upon Peter’s confession that Jesus is the Christ, the son of the living God.

Peter was the only disciple we read about who rebuked Jesus for saying he would be crucified, and who received a rebuke from Jesus in return. "Get behind me, Satan!" Jesus told him. It was Peter who also boldly asserted that he would never leave Jesus, even though later that same night he denied him three times. And it was Peter whom Satan wanted to sift like wheat, but we are told in the gospel of Luke that Jesus prayed for him that his faith not fail.

After he rose from the dead, Jesus singled out Peter and spoke to him when he met with the disciples by the Sea of Galilee. No doubt Peter was still remembering how he denied Jesus before his death on the cross. Jesus restored Peter, telling him his sins were forgiven, and then he recommissioned him as an apostle, saying, "Feed my sheep. . . . Feed my lambs."

Like the other apostles, Peter was baptized in the Holy Ghost on the day of Pentecost, and as we read in Acts 1-8, he became a bold witness about the Lord Jesus Christ, especially about his resurrection from the dead. On several occasions Peter declared to the masses and to the Sanhedrin that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the only Lord and Christ, the Prince of life, the Holy One and the Righteous One. He also fearlessly told the Sanhedrin on two occasions, "We must obey God rather than men" when they told him to stop preaching the gospel.

By the time we catch up to Peter in Acts 9:32, we find that through God’s working in his life, he was now a true rock of a man. Enabled by the might of our Lord, Peter was now ready to be beaten and maltreated, to spend and be spent, to suffer and to be killed, all for the sake of his master, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus had commissioned Peter and the other apostles to go and preach the gospel beyond Jerusalem. So in Acts 9:32 we read, "As Peter traveled about the country," meaning he left Jerusalem and began to go about, preaching the gospel. In the Greek it says, "He was traveling through all," meaning through all the territories. Eventually, Peter came to Lydda, where he visited with the church there.

The Miraculous Resurrection of Dorcas

The door was closed, there was a dead body, and Peter was alone on his knees. But he was not really alone. Peter saw God Almighty and prayed to him. And the Spirit of God gave him the confidence that it was God’s will to raise this young woman from the dead. So Peter turned, looked at the dead body and spoke to it: "Tabitha, cumi!" or "Tabitha, arise!" We are told that when Peter spoke, Tabitha opened her eyes, saw Peter and sat up. Peter gave her his hand, lifted her up, and she stood.

Oh, what a mighty God we serve! When Tabitha had died, her spirit had gone straight into the presence of God. But when Peter prayed and commanded her to get up, Tabitha’s spirit was sent back from heaven. It instantly entered her body and she was alive again.

When Christians die, their spirits go to God. When Stephen was being stoned he said, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." Jesus Christ himself committed his spirit to God the Father before he died on the cross. To the thief who repented on the cross Jesus said, "Today you will be with me in paradise," and in Luke 16 we read that when the poor man Lazarus died, his spirit went to Abraham’s bosom, which was the presence of God.

But in this instance Peter prayed, and God said to Tabitha’s spirit, "I want you to go back into your body." The spirit obeyed, and Tabitha was made alive again.

Blessed Peter the Apostle (CEPHAS; THE ROCK)

In our study of the book of Acts we have seen the birth and growth of the church as chronicled by Luke the physician. In the first eight chapters we read about the ministry and witness of the apostles, especially that of the chief apostle, Peter. In Acts 9 we learned about Saul of Tarsus, the great enemy of Jesus Christ, who went about breathing out slaughter and threatenings as he sought to destroy the church of Jesus Christ. As he traveled to Damascus to arrest Christians there, Saul was conquered and subdued by the mighty Lord Jesus Christ, the King of kings and the Lord of lords. As a result of Saul’s conversion, "the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace," as we read in Acts 9:31.

In Acts 9:32 Luke picks up the activity of Peter again. When we last saw him in Acts 8:25, Peter, along with John, was returning to Jerusalem, having preached the gospel in many Samaritan villages. Acts 9:32 says that Peter was moving west to the partially Gentile territory of the Mediterranean coast of Palestine, specifically to the cities of Lydda and Joppa. Known as Philistine country in earlier times, it was in this area that Samson, empowered by the Holy Spirit, picked up the doors of the city gates of Gaza, lifted them to his shoulders, and carried them up to a hill, thus demonstrating to the Philistines the power of the Spirit of the living God.

Peter was now coming to the same region to demonstrate the power of the gospel to save sinners. Despite the previous times of persecution by Saul and the Jews, the gospel was making steady progress as it spread from Jerusalem to Judea, Samaria, Galilee and beyond. As Jesus Christ said, the gates of hell shall not prevail against the church that he is building. They cannot, because, as Paul says in Romans 1, the gospel is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Gentile. Our adversary Satan is powerless to resist the conquering Christ and the progress of his gospel.

Philip the Evangelist had visited this region before, as we read in Acts 8:40. Now Peter was coming as an apostle, not only to oversee the church and instruct it in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, but also to evangelize further. In this study, therefore, we will first examine the apostle Simon Peter; second, Peter’s ministry in Lydda; and, third, Peter’s ministry in Joppa.

In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which, when translated, is Dorcas), who was always doing good and helping the poor. About that time she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room. Lydda was near Joppa; so when the disciples heard that Peter was in Lydda, they sent two men to him and urged him, "Please come at once!" Peter went with them, and when he arrived he was taken upstairs to the room. All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them. Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, "Tabitha, get up." She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up. He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called the believers and the widows and presented her to them alive. This became known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord."

--ACTS 9:36-43

Might I remind all of you that People's Power movement is not a democratic process, it s a mass protest. And constant People's Power will only destabilize a nation.

It destroys all confidence on a government; and with that, hampers the society to which that government presides over.

Aquino was never trained in politics. She is not a politician.

She was a woman, a wife of a politician, who was murdered, and after his death, the woman--Aquino, was placed on the pedestal by the mourning supporters/ Anti-Marcos Forces.

She was picked not because she had political experience or the drive, but because she was related to a man whom the protesters used as the legitimizing factor for the populatory coup de tat (though via protest).

A nation needs trained leaders, taught and trained in the arts of politics, law, jurisprudence, and theories of political science.

And in the end, this was the very manifesting factor that led to the multiple coups that occured in C. Aquino's 1 term presidency. This was the very reason why she didn't seek 2nd term, as she was not an effective president; and her policies came to no avail. The country, on the contrary, went in a paralytic spiral in her term and in preceding presidencies.

The Philippines has become quite robust only during the Administration of GMA.
No othe presidents prior to GMA (all post-Marcosian) can even compare to the success she has made and the leaps the country has attained under her administration.
Economic, political, and internationally. We have made hedgeway.
Not bad for a Republic that has reclaimed democratic process only 23 years after Marcotian Administration's demise.

A hero? No.

A historical figure, of course.

A National Hero is an individual who influences society and revolutionary response.

Rizal was a national hero because, his very writings solidified and made into substance the psyche of the people; his writings was the epitome of the population's feelings towards the abuses of the oligarchy, to which, ironically, Corazon Aquino, belonged to. As she is part of a powerful land owning political family, Peninsulares, to which Rizal, himself, focused most of his grievances against. The peninsulares and the Religious Episcopy that were abusing land and power.

Rizal initiated and incited the nationalistic movement; he and other writers such as Sr. Marcelo Del Pilar, and other Filipino intelligentsias in Spain formed the La Solidaridad, as a literary source to vent the Filipino view on the colonial government's way of ruling the islands. Rizal and Del Pilar made hedgeway by even addressing these matters to members of the Royal Spanish Cortes (Royal Parliamentary Body) ; in a move to explore the notion of granting all Filipinos Spanish citizenry and the Philippines to be made into an overseas Province as compared to an overseas Colony (as it was still regarded as, duirng the mid 19th century).

Rizal, through his works, fueled intellectual discourse amongst Filipino intelligentsias in Europe and in the Philippines, his writings shook the foundation of the Roman Catholic Episcopy in the Islands, his writings challenged the military colonial government into notions of liberalizing the islands and to put away with the fuedal-based oligarchic system that was set in placed by the Conquistadores some 2-3 centuries prior.

Rizal, in his brilliant foresight, tried to initiate peaceful and gradual assimilation into province-hood. Never so much to sponsor militant revolution.

But you see, as idealistic as Rizal was, as pure and incorrupt as his notions were, his writings and his ideas were twisted and used to legitimize actions made by the KKK. The KKK was more of a militant wing of the revolutionary phenomenon within that Philippine Revolution.

There were 3 forces within the Revolution:
1. The Loyalists; namely composed of the church, the peninsulares/oligarchic land owners, powerful political families, and the Spanish Creoles
2. The Filipino pro-assimilation. Filipinos that were intellectuals, that wanted the islands to be part of Spain Proper, as a province, not as a military bastion.
3. The Revolutionary Separatists.
===> and within the separatists were the militant wing and the intellectual wing.

Rizal , definately, influenced the movement.
His death, was the very straw that errupted the Filipino Revolution. His Death and execution signified the unilateral direction of the Revolution.

Had he lived and given amnesty, assimilation with Spain would have occurred, showing the Spanish Government's mercy and understanding of the situation, as afterall, Rizal was an educated polymath. He Spanish-Trained Physician-Surgeon, a writer, intellectual and activist.

He was beloved in Spain; and his death---to some of the revolutionary thinkers of the day (namely Filipino intelligentsias) represented the final betrayal of the Spain. Some believed that Spain should have rescued Rizal.

But in the end, Rizal's fate was left to the colonial government's hands.

And with his death---everything transpired after it.

Rizal was the Keystone in Filipino National History.

He was the one that coined the term "FILIPINOISMO"

or as he wrote in La Solidaridad, "Mi Patria Adorada Filipina" (My adored Filipino Nation).

With his pen, he unravelled half a millenia of Spanish regency.

Rizal. The ultimate example of "The Pen is mightier than the sword."

:)

Again, there can be no comparison between Corazon and Rizal.

Rizal INFLUENCED the revolution. He made the revolution. He was the revolution.

Corazon was but a small figure within the People's Power movement.

Hi Guys,

I recently presented a Medical Case Review on: Schizophrenia and Psychotic Disorders , the mode of treatment, diagnosis, and relations recently this month.

As a member of the AMSA (American Medical Students' Association), we, medical student members, are required and opted to present a case that has our interest.

In ever so much interest in the mode of psychotic diseases and treatment of psychotic diseases, which has been fueled by this year's Medical Pharmacology and Psychiatric Behavioral Science classes, I have grown quite interested into the diseases that have plagued human mental health and psychological disturbances.

In understanding the chemical and hormonal imbalances, the pathway deviations, and the methodology that is implemented to correct the neuropathology.

So, I presented on Schizophrenia, a disastrous and severe psychotic disorder, a result of excessive dopaminergic activity and inhibition of inhibitory pathways.

I will post some clips of my presentation; as I was recorded and filmed during my presentation. :)

I thank my friends and medical staff for the recording, as it has been quite rewarding watching it again.

I hope and trust all of you will enjoy it as well.

A learning experience pood.

All the best,

Technology / Empire Total War ?
August 20, 2009, 10:33:31 AM
I recently purchased a new game entitled: Empire Total War.

Have been scanning this new platform for  a while now, as it follows the same schematics as Rome: Total War and Medieval: Total War II.

One word comes out: Tactically Exhilerating.

Glorious graphics, and the brevity of command settings is beyond words.

I highly recommend this platform for the avid stategy lover, chess-lover.

Command your armies, your nation-empire.

Bible Study / It's All About The Heart

Those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart. â€"Matthew 15:18

Every time Susan opens her mouth, it sounds like the blare of an ambulance siren. This TV commercial uses humor to indicate that a dental problem could reveal a more serious physical ailment. So she’d better see her dentist soon!

The commercial made me think about what comes out of my mouth when I open it. Jesus said that our words come from our heart (Matt. 15:18). He offended the Pharisees when He said, “Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man” (vv.11-12). They thought they were right with God because they followed strict rules, including ritual cleansing of their hands before eating and eating only “clean” foods. Jesus upset their pride.

Jesus upsets our pride too. We may think we’re godly people because we go to church regularly or pray, but then we gossip or talk about people behind their backs. James 3:9-10 says, “With [our tongue] we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men . . . . Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. . . . These things ought not to be so.”

If a siren blares from our mouth when we open it, we need to examine our heart and ask the Lord to forgive us and to help us be a blessing to others.  â€" Anne Cetas

Lord, cleanse our hearts so what we speak
Will be reflective of Your grace;
And help us to control our tongues
So we’ll not bring on You disgrace. â€"Sper

Every time you speak, your mind is on parade.

Have you ever stopped to wonder to think about how others felt? The kinds of things you were saying, gossipping, lying, and spreading false rumors of other people?

Have you ever wondered the kind of damage it would do to the feelings of friends and those involved?

I mean, sure, to live one's life is fine, and enjoy your emotional and sentimental boundaries is fine, but have you ever just stopped to wonder the feelings of others in the kinds of things that you were whispering to others?

I sure have thought about it. Sure, I realize that there have been things that I have said in my life that I felt compelled to say by personal conviction and in the spirit of intellectual discourse with other colleagues. For the spirit of spirited and academic-based discussion.

But when the kinds of things that are being exchanged are personal, derogatory, and by all means---sexual and irresponsible, that should be a warning sign. A border zone breach.

Then again, it all falls on one's notion of personal and common decency. Respect.

For some of us it exists, for some, it may be an abstract concept.

Nonetheless, its never too late re-address the situation and or ponder on it.

I want to know the views of my fellow Bol-anon compatriots.
Share with us.

Cheers,
Bran Lorenz

Very well said, Buwad.

Its true, better to suffer for Christ than to live for yourself and in emptiness.

As a friend of mine once told me,
" The Peace of Jesus Christ is far more powerful than anything in this world; and Only Through Him are we given True Peace, In Him we are saved. "

Ang deep message: All the world is changing, it changes like the dusts of time. But the one thing that we can count on is the Love of Jesus Christ.

Which will never change.
