many providers for business cash advances are notorious for making unrealistic promises regarding timing and payment terms. To prepare for this possibility, business owners should engage in thorough discussions with a prospective business financing advisor before proceeding.

Health and Food / Having a plastic or cosmetic surgery
December 08, 2011, 06:17:04 AM
Most people who want to have a plastic or cosmetic surgery hope that they can pass it as a secured personal loan. But it's actually not. Unlike home loan, financing a surgery is an unsecured loan where the bank can't get their collateral. So, there is nothing they can reposses if you stop with making payments for some reason. The only think bank can do is take a risk here and evaluate your credit report to see are you elligible for a loan. If you can repay that loan, then you are a good candidate to get money for your plastic surgery.

A study on Japanese immigrants in the US found that the incidence of heart attack among them was significantly higher than those living in Japan, indicating that the change in food habits - eating plenty of rich foods - was the main cause of higher incidence. A similar survey was done on Indians who had migrated to Singapore. It was found that the incidence was eight times more than those who stayed behind. The reasons were the same. It is, therefore, very necessary for patients of heart attack to exercise control over diet and eat food which is low in fat and calories. Cigarette smoking has also been linked to increase

On November 13, 1936, the Institute of National Language or "Surian ng Wikang Pambansa" was created to select which of the native Philippine languages would be used as the basis for the national language.

In 1937, the Institute, under its first director, Jaime de Veyra, recommended that Tagalog be adopted as the national language based on the following factors:

--Tagalog is widely spoken and is the language most understood in all the regions of the Philippines;

--It is not divided into smaller, separate languages as Visayan is;

--Its literary tradition is the richest and the most developed and extensive (mirroring that of the Tuscan dialect of Italy);

--More books are written in Tagalog than in any other autochthonous Philippine language;

--Tagalog has always been the language of Manila -- the political and economic capital of the Philippines under both Spanish and American rulers;

--It is also the language of the Revolution and the Katipunan -- two very important incidents in Philippine history.

Hence, in 1940, the Institute published an official grammar and dictionary, the Balarila ng Wikang Pambansa (Grammar of the National Language), written by Lope K. Santos, and the Tagalog-English Vocabulary.

The first known book to be written in Tagalog was the Doctrina Cristiana (Christian Doctrine) of 1593. It was written in Spanish and two versions of Tagalog; one written in Baybayin and the other in the Latin alphabet.

The Surian has contributed not only to the development of the national language, but also to the development of literature and literary criticism in Filipino through the publication of critical works, the giving of annual awards in poetry and essay, and the holding of forums, symposia, and seminars.

In 1987, by virtue of Executive Order No. 117, the Surian became the Linangan ng mga Wika sa Pilipinas. It was again transformed into the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino in August 1991, through Republic Act No. 7104 (implemented in 1992), which is tasked to undertake, coordinate and promote researches for the development, propagation and preservation of Filipino and other Philippine languages.

On the night of November 13, 1986, President Corazon C. Aquino condemned the brutal murder of labor leader Rolando Olalia and his colleague and driver Leonor Alay-ay, whose bodies were found in Antipolo, Rizal earlier in the day.

President Aquino immediately ordered a full-scale investigation of the gruesome murder which rocked the labor sector.

Olalia was then the chairman of the militant labor sector Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU). The chief suspects in the murder were ranking leaders of the Rebolusyonaryong Alyansang Makabansa (RAM).

Police investigators said the bodies of Olalia and Alay-ay bore torture marks and gunshot wounds in the head.

They were hogtied and their mouths were stuffed with newspaper.

Their bodies were severely mutilated beyond recognition. The scar on Olalia's leg was the only identifying mark that confirmed the labor leader's brutal demise.

On this same day in 2000, the House of Representatives voted to impeach President Joseph Estrada on charges of bribery, graft and corruption, betrayal of public trust and culpable violation of the Constitution for allegedly accepting bribe money from operators of illegal gambling.

Speaker Manuel Villar read his referral of the Articles of Impeachment, paving the way for the formal trial of the President by the Senate, where the senators sit as jurors and Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr. as presiding officer.

On November 11, 1941, Manuel L. Quezon and Sergio Osmena were reelected president and vice president, respectively, of the Second Philippine Commonwealth.

However, they both did not serve their terms from 1942 to 1945 due to the outbreak of World War II and the occupation of the Philippines by Japan.

During the Japanese time, it was Jose P. Laurel who was appointed as president of the so-called Japanese-sponsored Philippine Republic in 1943.

Thus, from 1943 to 1945, the Philippines had two presidents as Quezon, who died on August 1, 1944 due to tuberculosis, was replaced by Osmena.

Prior to that, on November 15, 1935, the First Commonwealth of the Philippines was inaugurated with Quezon as president and Osmena as vice president.

Also on this same date in 1875, the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC) established its first branch in Binondo, Manila, thus becoming the first foreign bank in the Philippines.

In 1883, a second branch was opened in Iloilo to serve the growing sugar industry.

On November 10, 1986, President Corazon C. Aquino left for Tokyo for a four-day state visit to Japan which laid the groundwork for strengthened Philippines-Japan economic, political, and cultural ties.

President Aquino's website, www.coryaquino.ph, said the highlights of the visit were the following: Commitment to the Philippines of an eight-point aid package totaling some US$ 625 million, including a US$ 252-million loan for the construction of the Calaca II coal-fired power project in Batangas.

In addition, an Official Development Assistance (ODA) in the amount of US$ 308.4 million and US$ 100 million in technical assistance grants were also extended by the Japanese government.

On this same day in 1871, Juan Cailles, a school teacher who fought during the Philippine Revolution and Philippine-American War, was born in Nasugbu, Batangas.

Cailles, who served as public school teacher of Amaya, Tanza and Rosario, Cavite for five years when the revolution broke out, encouraged his pupils' fathers to fight the Spaniards and join the Katipunan, was founded on July 7, 1892 by Andres Bonifacio).

Cailles took part in many encounters with the Spaniards, particularly in engagements resulting in the deaths of his superior officers, such as General Candido Tria Tirona, Edilberto Evangelista and Crispulo Aguinaldo, who facilitated his rapid promotion.

He was appointed brigadier general of the army under Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo in 1897, and was the commanding officer of Battalion Trias which fought major battles in Cavite and in the suburbs of Manila.

Cailles was one of the signatories in the declaration of Philippine Independence on June 12, 1898.

Cailles served as acting chief of operations in the first zone of Manila during the Philippine-American War. He was appointed by Aguinaldo as military governor of Laguna and half of Tayabas (now Quezon) province.

However, he surrendered to the Americans on June 20, 1901 after Aguinaldo was captured in Palanan, Isabela, on March 23, 1901.

In later years, Cailles took efforts toward rebuilding the country, serving as governor of Laguna and representative of Mountain Province in the Philippine Legislature.

Cailles died of heart attack on June 28, 1952 at age 80.

Also, on November 10, 1911, the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) was organized in Manila with Teodoro Yangco as its first president. It aimed to propagate Christian faith through health and sports.

The Rising Threat from Nigeria's Boko Haram Militant Group
By Scott Stewart | November 10, 2011

The U.S. Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria, issued a warning Nov. 5 indicating it had received intelligence that the Nigerian militant group Boko Haram may have been planning to bomb several targets in the Nigerian capital during the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, also known as Eid al-Kabir, celebrated Nov. 6-8. The warning specifically mentioned the Hilton, Nicon Luxury and Sheraton hotels as potential targets.

The warning came in the wake of a string of bombings and armed attacks Nov. 4 in the cities of Maiduguri, Damaturu and Potiskum, all of which are located in Nigeria’s northeast. An attack also occurred in the north-central Nigerian city of Kaduna. The sites targeted in the wave of attacks included a military base in Maiduguri and the anti-terrorism court building in Damaturu. Militants reportedly attacked these two sites with suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs). The Nigerian Red Cross reported that more than 100 people were killed in the attacks, while some media reports claimed the death toll was at least 150.

Two baggage handlers at NAIA were going through the luggage one day when they came across a box with dead dog inside!
“Oh no!” one of the handlers exclaimed, “they might blame us for the daed dog”
“That’s right,”replied the other,” we have to do something about it !!”
So together the two handlers purchased a dog that resembled the dead canine and placed him inside the box.
Later, when the fat old matron who owned the box came to pick it up, the two heard a big scream ripple across the baggage claim area.
“Oh no!”, the matron screamed,”they’ve stolen my stuffed dog!”

Russia: Rebuilding an Empire While It Can
By Lauren Goodrich | November 1, 2011

U.S.-Russian relations seem to have been relatively quiet recently, as there are numerous contradictory views in Washington about the true nature of Russia’s current foreign policy. Doubts remain about the sincerity of the U.S. State Department’s so-called “reset” of relations with Russia â€" the term used in 2009 when U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton handed a reset button to her Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, as a symbol of a freeze on escalating tensions between Moscow and Washington. The concern is whether the “reset” is truly a shift in relations between the two former adversaries or simply a respite before relations deteriorate again.

The reset actually had little to do with the United States wanting Russia as a friend and ally. Rather, Washington wanted to create room to handle other situations â€" mainly Afghanistan and Iran â€" and ask Russia for help in those two issues (Russia is aiding in moving supplies into Afghanistan and withholding critical support for Iran). Meanwhile, Russia also wanted more room to set up a system that would help it create a new version of its old empire.

By Scott Stewart | November 3, 2011

The online activist collective Anonymous posted a message on the Internet on Oct. 31 saying it would continue its campaign against Mexican criminal cartels and their government supporters despite the risks.

The message urged inexperienced activists, who might not be practicing proper online security measures, to abstain from participating. It also urged individuals associated with Anonymous in Mexico not to conduct physical pamphlet drops, participate in protests, wear or purchase Guy Fawkes masks, or use Guy Fawkes imagery in their Internet or physical-world activities. Guy Fawkes was a British Roman Catholic conspirator involved in a plot to bomb the British Parliament on Nov. 5, 1605. The British celebrate the plot’s failure as Guy Fawkes Day each Nov. 5. In modern times, the day has come to have special meaning for anarchists. Since 2006, the style of the Guy Fawkes mask used in the movie “V for Vendetta” has become something of an anarchist icon in the United Kingdom and elsewhere.

The soldier-son of a general treacherously killed by Moro separatist rebels in the infamous massacre at Patikul, Sulu province, in October 1977 is taking over as new chief of the Philippine Army.

The youngest among 11 generals considered for the post, Major General Emmanuel Bautista, 53, formally assumes command of the 80,000-strong Army in ceremonies at Fort Bonifacio Wednesday.

He was a freshman cadet at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) when his father, Brigadier General Teodulfo Bautista, and 33 other officers and men were gunned down by Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) rebels in Patikul on Oct. 10, 1977.

An MNLF commander, Usman Sali, had lured the elder Bautista into a meeting in Patikul with a promise to talk about a ceasefire. To show his goodwill, the late general arrived for the meeting unarmed. He was shot to death.

Only one soldier survived the massacre.

A total of P2.5 billion in behest agricultural loans to friends and associates of the former first couple, Mike and Gloria Arroyo has been made public.

Sen. Frank Drilon, who made the exposé, says it’s impossible to recover the loans since most of the borrowers are not identified, do not want to pay or have been reported as dead.

The Arroyos were allegedly  into all kinds of money-making ventures: From telecommunications (NBN-ZTE); railroad (North and South rails); selling second-hand choppers and passing them off as new; intelligence funds of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office; fertilizer and all kinds of products that government distributed supposedly to help the citizenry; real estate (Alpha Land, a real estate development company, is reportedly Mike’s but under a dummy’s name); taking over closed banks; smuggling.

They didn’t even spare “jueteng,” a poor man’s numbers game, which is illegal.

Gloria Macapagal “Makapal” Arroyo is apparently more corrupt than Ferdinand Marcos since the latter didn’t touch jueteng.

Ways to Live Longer
by Dr. Willie T. Ong
The Philippine Star

20. Be more relaxed and less stressed. One sure way to get a heart attack is to have a workaholic, perfectionist, and stubborn personality, the so-called “Type A” personality. In contrast, the “Type B” personality is a more relaxed, less time-conscious, and less driven person. Type B personalities are able to adapt to problems and are less stress-prone.

19. Check your vitamins and supplements. Vitamins can help fill up the gaps in our diet, especially if we don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables. You may take a multivitamin daily, especially if you feel weak or tired.

18. Pray (in addition to seeking medical care). In a study of cancer patients, those

who confronted their illness through positive thinking, medicines, and prayers, actually lived longer.

17. Read up on your disease. Dr. Joslin, a world-renowned diabetes expert, believes that the educated patient lives longer.

16. Get vaccinated. Vaccines are the thinking man’s strategy to prevent disease and live longer. Consider vaccines for hepatitis B, flu, rabies, tetanus, and pneumonia. These are all serious illnesses preventable by a simple vaccine.

15. Limit or avoid alcohol intake. “Drinking in moderation” is a much abused phrase. Too much alcohol intake can cause a multitude of problems, such as liver cirrhosis, liver cancer, stomach ulcers, oral cancers, brain damage, dementia, nerve damage, and vehicular accidents.

14. Do charity work. In a study involving 3,617 respondents and conducted by Prof. Peggy Thoits of the Vanderbilt University, those who volunteered and helped other people had higher levels of happiness and self-esteem, and better physical health. Helping others has always been the best stress reliever and anti-depressant.

13. Find a good doctor. A good doctor can help you live longer. Your doctors’ job is to guide you on your checkups, such as laboratory tests, cancer screening tests, and schedule for vaccines.

12. Exercise moderately. Moderate exercise has been proven to prevent diabetes, maintain body weight, and lessen the pain of arthritis. Exercise a minimum of three times a week. If you plan to enroll in a gym, get a doctor’s clearance first. Try to avoid high-impact exercises like basketball and badminton as you grow older. Swimming and brisk walking are excellent exercises.

11. Marry. Statistics show that, on the average, married persons live longer, probably because they find fulfillment in their spouse and kids. However, don’t feel bad if you’re single. Single individuals can compensate by having a large support group of family and friends.

10. Be a positive thinker. Train your mind to think positively. Believe you’ll beat your disease and you can. To learn more about positive thinking, you may check out any of Dr. Norman Vincent Peale’s affordable books.

9. Consider statin drugs for high cholesterol. The statins are one of the best drugs in medicine. Since the 1990s, the drug’s benefits for patients with high cholesterol, heart disease, and diabetes have been proven time and again in dozens of clinical trials. Ask your doctor if you need to take these drugs.

8. Live a less risky lifestyle. Young people should be educated on the dangers of practicing unsafe sex, having multiple partners, and taking illicit drugs. Limit your risks, avoid accidents, and live longer.

7. Be financially wise. People with lower incomes are afflicted with more diseases like tuberculosis, infectious diseases, malnutrition, and even heart disease. The poor usually have no means to get a checkup or to buy medicines. Learn to save some money for your emergency medical needs.

6. Consider aspirin. Aspirin has been proven to help patients with diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and high cholesterol. Lately, studies show that aspirin may prevent some bowel cancers. The only precaution with aspirin is that it may cause an upset stomach or an ulcer. That is why we advise patients to take aspirin after meals.

5. Eat fruits and oily fish. Nature’s healthiest fruits include bananas, carrots, tomatoes, and citrus fruits. Bananas are rich in potassium, vitamin B6, and folic acid. Likewise, tomatoes have high amounts of antioxidants, including beta-carotene and lycopene. Citrus fruits like oranges and lemons are teeming with healthy vitamin C.

4. Eat green leafy vegetables. Vegetables are beneficial for people with heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, bowel problems, and various cancers. Vegetables are also excellent diet foods because they’re low in fat and high in fiber. Locally, we have cabbage, pechay, kangkong, camote tops (talbos), and spinach.

3. Lose weight, if overweight. Being obese is associated with all sorts of diseases, like arthritis, high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes. If you’re 20 pounds overweight, then it’s like carrying a 20-pound chair tied around your back all day. Shed off excess weight and feel better.

2. Take medicines for high blood pressure and diabetes. Studies show that when a patient with severe high blood pressure takes his maintenance medicines, he may live 10 years longer. With regard to diabetes, studies show that the more doctors bring down the blood sugar to normal levels (fasting blood sugar of less than 100 mg/dl), the greater is the health benefit. These are really lifesaving medicines.

1. Stop smoking. There are over 70,000 scientific articles to prove that smoking damages the heart, lungs, esophagus, stomach, bowels, prostate, and predisposes one to all kinds of cancers. What is worse is that smokers actually hurt the non-smokers around them by letting them inhale the toxic fumes. So, what’s the best way to live longer? Don’t smoke, period. It will save you from so much heartache and pain. For more detailed information, you can check out the book How To Live Longer, available at National Book Store outlets.

Gunmen have kidnapped the Filipina wife of a British national in the southern Philippines, the second abduction of a woman married to a European in three months, police said Monday.

Luisa Galvez Morrison, 34, was seized by armed men in her beauty salon in the island of Mindanao late Sunday and taken away in a van that was later found abandoned, said regional police head Chief Superintendent Elpedio de Asis.

"Our police and military forces have been tracking down all the leads on this kidnapping case," de Asis said.

The woman was from the area and recently returned to open the salon, de Asis added. Her husband worked for an oil company in Malaysia.

So far, there has been no ransom demand for the woman, he said.

The British embassy could not be contacted for comment.

Kidnappings for ransom, often targeting foreigners, are a common occurrence in the lawless south, where Muslim insurgents, extremists and armed gangs are active.

In July, a Philippine-born woman married to a German man was abducted along with her son and a Filipino nephew in the same region. Authorities are yet to trace the three.

Philippine President Benigno Aquino on Monday said the United States needs to get better sources of information after a leaked US secret cable described him as "diffident and unassertive".

Aquino said the unflattering description, published by anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks, would not affect the country's relations with the US, a close ally, but remarked that the US should improve its intelligence.

In the cable, dated January 22, 2010, then US ambassador Kristie Kenney described Aquino -- a senator at the time -- as "a diffident, unassertive man" carrying on his family's political tradition in his quest to become president.

"Maybe they should assess their capabilities to assess and gather the necessary information so they will get the right information on which to base their decisions," Aquino told reporters.

He also questioned whether US diplomats in the Philippines were getting the best and most complete information on which to base their reports.

Last week, the Philippine foreign minister branded Kenney as "a dismal failure" after WikiLeaks published a cable from 2009 criticising Aquino's mother, the late president Corazon Aquino.

The death of Corazon Aquino, who is widely revered in the Philippines for helping restore democracy in the 1980s, helped propel her son to a landslide victory in the May 2010 presidential elections.

The cables suggested Kenney, who ended her Philippine posting last year, remained unimpressed to the end.

LGU Philippines / Pnoy to Visit America and Japan

by Agence France Presse

Philippine President Benigno Aquino said Monday he would visit the country's biggest trading partners the United States and Japan later this month to discuss issues including anti-corruption efforts.

Aquino told reporters he would be going to Washington and New York to address the World Bank and as part of the Open Government Partnership being offered by US President Barack Obama.

He said his trip to Japan would be an official visit.

"I think there will be good news. If not from both (countries), at least definitely from one," he told reporters.

His spokeswoman, Abigail Valte said the final date of the visits had not been set but it would likely be in late-September.

The United States and Japan have long been the Philippines biggest trading partners and major sources of aid. The United States is also the Philippines' closest defence ally.

Five people were killed and three more wounded as an attempt to waylay a bank delivery turned into a bloody running gun battle in a central Philippines shopping mall on Monday, a police official said.

A bank teller and two security guards were delivering a bag of money in the shopping centre in the trading and holiday city of Cebu when three armed robbers attacked them, shooting the guards dead, said the city police chief.

Policemen rushed to the scene and pursued the gunmen, eventually cornering them, leading to a shootout that killed the three robbers, said police chief Senior Superintendent Melvin Buenafe.

"The robbers were waiting inside the mall and that is where the shooting started. But our policemen chased them and they shot the suspects," he told reporters.

Two policemen and the bank teller were also wounded in the mayhem, he added.

The sealed bag of money was recovered intact.

Philippine communist rebel negotiators met a special Norwegian envoy on Monday in a fresh bid to reopen stalled peace talks to end a four-decade war with the government, aides said.

The rebels' chief negotiator Luis Jalandoni met the envoy at the embassy in Manila but details of the talks were not disclosed, the insurgent secretariat said.

Government negotiator Alexander Padilla told AFP he would meet the Norwegian envoy on Tuesday but he did not know if the rebel negotiators would be at the talks as well.

Norway, which has been brokering the on-off talks, sent the envoy, Ture Lundh, to the Philippines after negotiations stalled over the demand of the National Democratic Front that the government free 13 captured comrades.

The two sides hope to seal a peace accord by June 2012 but the new impasse has soured ties, with the government accusing the NDF of bad faith for kidnapping a town mayor and four jail guards recently.

The Philippines has created a protected area to save a species of endangered wild duck, with just 5,000 of the birds remaining, government documents released on Monday said.

The 27 hectare (67 acre) "wetland critical habitat" was set up for the Philippine duck, a species found only in the Philippines whose numbers have been falling due to hunting and habitat destruction, the documents said.

The environment department order created the protected area in the largely-agricultural Cabusao district in the east of the country.

"Ensure that existing ecosystems in the critical habitat are preserved and are kept in a condition that will support the perpetual existence of the Philippine duck," the department order instructed local authorities.

The Philippine duck, whose scientific name is "Anas luzonica", is rated as "vulnerable" by the conservation group BirdLife International, which estimated in 2005 that as few as 5,000 of them may be left.

On its website, BirdLife said the main threats to the species were excessive hunting and the use of its habitats for drainage and aquaculture -- the farming of aquatic organisms -- and excessive use of pesticides in rice farms.

The duck is described as having a blue-grey bill, a "rusty cinnamon" head and neck, and brown and grey feathers. It feeds on fish, shrimps, insects, rice and other plants.

Millions of Philippine coconut farmers face a growing crisis in their livelihoods, an official said Tuesday, as their trees become too old to produce the fruit that is a mainstay of the country's exports.

More than 44 million coconut trees -- 14 percent of the national total -- are past their most fertile age, and without a sufficient replanting programme the industry could be in trouble, warned Euclides Forbes, administrator of the official Philippine Coconut Authority.

He said the government does not have enough money to support the industry, on which 25 percent of the population depends, and private planters are not doing enough.

"If the trees are not replaced, the fall in our coconut production will accelerate. In three to five years, we will not be able to meet export demand," he told AFP.

He did not say why farmers are not planting new coconuts on their own, but in the past they relied on government incentives to boost production.

Coconut products like dried coconut meat and coconut oil are the Philippines' largest agricultural exports, earning $1.508 billion dollars for the country last year, official data show.

Coconut Authority figures show production in 2011 is expected to hit only 2.57 million tonnes, down more than 13 percent on 2010 while coconut oil exports will amount to only 1.5 billion tonnes, down 30 percent on the year earlier.

A monster 21-foot (6.4-metre) saltwater crocodile, believed to be the biggest ever captured, has been trapped in the southern Philippines after a spate of fatal attacks, officials said Tuesday.

The 1,075-kilogramme (2,370-pound) male is suspected of eating a farmer who went missing in July in the town of Bunawan, and of killing a 12-year-old girl whose head was bitten off two years ago, crocodile hunter Rollie Sumiller said.

The hunter examined the crocodile's stomach contents by forcing it to vomit after it was captured Saturday, but there was no trace of human remains or of several water buffaloes also reported missing by locals.

"The community was relieved," Sumiller said of the capture, but added: "We're not really sure if this is the man-eater, because there have been other sightings of other crocodiles in the area."

The local government of the impoverished town of 30,000 people has decided against putting down the reptile, and will instead build a nature park where it will go on display.

Josefina de Leon, wildlife division chief at the Philippines environment ministry, said the beast was likely the biggest crocodile ever captured anywhere in the world.

"Based on existing records the largest that had been captured previously was 5.48 metres long," she told AFP.

The Philippine specimen would easily dwarf the largest captive saltwater crocodile, which the Guinness World Records website lists as Cassius, a 5.48-metre (18-foot) male which lives at an Australian nature park.

Press reports also describe other huge crocs including a 6.2-metre (20.3-foot) adult male killed in Papua New Guinea in 1982 that was measured after it was skinned.

The Bunawan hunting team, employed by a government-run crocodile breeding farm, began laying bait using chicken, pork and dog meat on August 15 in an attempt to snare the beast.

But the reptile, which measured three feet (0.91 metres) across its back, simply bit off both the meat and the line it was skewered on.

A heavy metal cable finally proved beyond the power of its jaws, and the beast was subdued in a creek late Saturday with the help of about 30 local men.

It was the team's second attempt after a failed expedition launched in response to the fatal 2009 attack.

Beyond the mark of the hook inside its upper jaw, the crocodile did not appear to have sustained any serious injuries, Sumiller said.

Bunawan Mayor Edwin Cox Elorde said the government would build a nature park showcasing the giant crocodile and other species found in the vast marshland on the upper reaches of the massive Agusan river basin on Mindanao island.

"It will be the biggest star of the park," Elorde told reporters.

Sumiller said the plan was the best option available for the creature.

"He's a problem crocodile that needs to be taken from the wild... and used for eco-tourism," he said.

Crocodylus porosus, or the estuarine crocodile, is the world's largest reptile. It grows to five or six metres in length and can live up to 100 years.

The 2,000-strong private army of a powerful clan suspected of carrying out the Philippines' worst political massacre was better armed than the military and police, leaked US embassy cables showed.

The cables from late 2009, released by anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks, described the reach of the feared Ampatuan clan in the southern region of Mindanao and said it had authorities on the run.

Key members of the clan and its private army are now being tried for the murder of 57 people in Mindanao in 2009 but many of the accused are still at large, making witnesses reluctant to come forward.

"We estimate that the Ampatuan clan maintains a private army of up to 2,000 men -- who are often better armed and equipped than their (police) and (military) counterparts," an embassy cable said.

"Government officials were astonished by the size of the arms caches and the power of the weaponry" that was later recovered from the Ampatuans, another cable said.

However, the files also said the government had turned a "blind eye" to such private armies because they helped in the fight against Muslim insurgents.

"They are often politically allied with the President," one cable added, referring to then-president Gloria Arroyo.

The Ampatuans were allies of Arroyo but she disowned them after they were linked to the murder of 57 political rivals, lawyers and journalists in a bid to prevent a rival from challenging them in elections in 2010.

Effectiveness - Your follow up must be effective. Use testimonials, proof of your income, chards, drawings...what ever it takes to effectively persuade your lead that your system works.

Repetition - Most people need to see your offer at least 7 times to make a decision. What ever you do, don't stop following up on them too soon. Two of three follow ups are simply not enough. You need at least 10 follow ups until you maximize the chance of joining.

An elderly TV star was asked by talk-show host Larry King about heaven. King prefaced his question by referring to Billy Graham, who had told King he “knew what would be ahead. It would be paradise. He was going to heaven.”

King then asked his guest, “What do you believe?” He replied, “I’d like a lot of activity. Heaven sounds too placid for me. There’s a lot to do in hell.”

Sadly, this man is not alone in thinking that an existence in Satan’s realm is a preferred destination. I’ve heard people say that they’d rather be in hell because all their friends will be there. One person wrote, “If hell was real, I don’t think it would be bad. There would be a lot of interesting people.”

How can we convince folks who are deceived in this way that hell and its horrors are to be avoided? Perhaps by telling them of the realities of hell that are presented in the Scripture. In Daniel 12:2, it is described as a place of “shame and everlasting contempt.” Luke 16:23 talks about “torments.” Matthew 8:12 describes “weeping and gnashing of teeth.” And Revelation 14:11 says there will be “no rest.”

Biblical truth doesn’t allow anyone to think that hell might be a good place to be. Clearly, rejecting Jesus and facing an eternity in Satan’s kingdom is a bad choice.

Don’t choose to spend eternity
Where pain will never dim;
Instead decide to trust in Christ
And choose to follow Him. â€"Sper

The same Christ who talks about the glories of heaven also describes the horrors of hell.

Chuck had slowed to a stop when his car was hit from behind and was pushed into the vehicle ahead of him. A sickening, crunching sound indicated that additional vehicles had collided behind them.

As Chuck sat quietly for a moment, he observed that the vehicle directly behind him was pulling out into traffic. Obviously hoping to avoid an encounter with police, the escaping driver neglected to notice he had left something behind. When the police arrived, an officer picked up the hit-and-run driver’s license plate from the ground and said to Chuck, “Someone will be waiting for him when he arrives home. He won’t get away with this.”

Scripture tells us: “Be sure your sin will find you out” (Num. 32:23), as this man who fled the accident discovered. We may sometimes be able to hide our sin from the people around us, but nothing is ever “hidden from [God’s] sight” (Heb. 4:13). He sees each of our failures, thoughts, and motivations (1 Sam. 16:7; Luke 12:2-3).

Believers are given a wonderful promise: “If we confess our sins, [God] is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). So don’t let unconfessed, so-called “hidden” sins come between you and God (vv.6-7).

We cannot hide from God
No matter how we try;
For He knows all we think and doâ€"
We can’t escape His eye. â€"Hess

Inspiration & Hope / When Jesus Christ Returns
June 07, 2011, 06:28:47 AM
by David Roper, Our Daily Bread

My state’s name, “Idaho,” according to one legend, comes from a Shoshone Indian word, “ee-dah-how.” When translated into English, it means something like, “Behold! The sun rising over the mountain.” I often think of that when the sun breaks over the eastern peaks and spills light and life into our valley.

Also, I think of Malachi’s promise: “The Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings” (Mal. 4:2). This is God’s irrevocable promise that our Lord Jesus will come again and all creation “will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God” (Rom. 8:21).

Each new sunrise is a reminder of that eternal morning when “bright heaven’s Sun” will arise with healing in His wings. Then everything that has been made will be made over and made irrevocably right. There will be no throbbing backs or knees, no financial struggles, no losses, no aging. One Bible version says that when Jesus returns we will “go out and leap like calves released from the stall” (Mal. 4:2 NIV). This is my highest imagination and my hope.

Jesus said, “Surely I am coming quickly” (Rev. 22:20). Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

High King of heaven, my victory won,
May I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all. â€"Irish hymn

The book of Jonah has the makings of a great movie plot. It contains a runaway prophet, a terrible storm at sea, the prophet swallowed by a great fish, God sparing the prophet’s life, and the repentance of a pagan city.

But Jonah’s sequelâ€"the book of Nahumâ€"might not be so popular. Nahum ministered in Nineveh just as Jonah had, but about 100 years later. This time, the Ninevites had no interest in repentance. Because of this, Nahum condemns Nineveh and proclaims judgment on the people.

To unrepentant Nineveh, the prophet preached: “The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked” (Nah. 1:3). But Nahum also had a message of mercy. To comfort the people of Judah, he proclaimed: “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him” (v.7).

We see in the stories of Jonah and Nahum that with every new generation comes the necessity of an individual response to God. No one’s spiritual life can be handed off to another; we must each choose to serve the Lord from our own heart. God’s message is as fresh today as it was hundreds of years ago: judgment for the unrepentant but mercy for the repentant. How will you respond?

Your mercy, Lord, how great it is
To overrule our sin!
So help us know Your righteousness
And choose to walk therein. â€"D. De Haan

God’s judgment is certain, but so is His mercy.

Over the past several years, I’ve been privileged to travel with teenagers on eight mission trips. One thing I’ve learned in those excursions is that teens are not too young to make an impact for Jesusâ€"either on me or on others whose lives they touch.

I’ve also noticed that the teens who make the biggest impact for Christ match the characteristics Paul told Timothy about in 1 Timothy 4:12. Trying to convince Timothy that his relative youth did not have to be a deterrent to his ministry, Paul told him to “be an example to the believers” in several areas.
In word: Young people who make a difference for Christ control what they say, avoid negative talk, and speak words that honor God. In conduct: Teens who practice discretion in their behavior shine for all the world to see. In love: By taking heed of Jesus’ words to love God and their neighbor (Matt. 22:37-39) teens please Jesus and touch hearts. In faith: Those who put their faith into action change lives. In purity: It’s tough to be morally pure and doctrinally sound, but kids who are can set the bar for the rest of us.

Paul’s words aren’t just for the young generation. All of us should be an example in word, conduct, love, faith, and purity. That’s how we make an impact for Christ.

O Christians, remember, you bear His dear name,
Your lives are for others to view;
You’re living examplesâ€"men praise you or blame,
And measure your Savior by you. â€"Anon.

During an international publishing conference, a young Frenchman described his experience at a book- signing event. A woman picked up one of his books, browsed through it, and exclaimed, “At last, a story that’s clean!” He replied gently, “I write clean because I think clean. It’s not an effort.” What he expressed in print came from within, where Christ had altered the very core of his life.

John 15 records Jesus’ lesson to His disciples about abiding in Him as the only means to a fruitful life. In the midst of His imagery of the vine and the branches, Jesus said: “You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you” (v.3). Bible scholar W. E. Vine says that the Greek word for clean means “free from impure admixture, without blemish, spotless.”

A pure heart is the work of Christ, and only in His power can we remain clean. We often fail, but “if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to . . . cleanse us from all unright-eousness” (1 John 1:9). Renewal is an inside job.

Jesus has made us clean through His sacrifice and His Word. Our speech and actions that strike others as being fresh and pure flow from inside out as we abide in Christ.

Admitting that we’re guilty,
Acknowledging our sin,
Then trusting in Christ’s sacrifice
Will make us clean within. â€"Sper

Inspiration & Hope / Trials Are Not Abnormal

Following a recent lunch discussion, I decided to research the comment that a bull shark attack had once occurred in Lake Michigan. It seemed like such an impossible thought that we all scoffed at the idea of sharks in a freshwater lake so far inland. I found one online site that claimed a bull shark attack did occur in Lake Michigan in 1955, but it was never verified. A shark attack in Lake Michigan? If the story were true, it would definitely be a rare occurrence.

Wouldn’t it be great if hard times were like Lake Michigan bull shark attacksâ€"rare or even untrue? But they aren’t. Hardships and difficulties are common. It’s just that when they happen to us, we think they shouldn’t.

Perhaps that is why the apostle Peter, writing to first-century followers of Christ going through tough times, said, “Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you” (1 Peter 4:12). These trials are not abnormalâ€"and once we get past our surprise, we can turn to the Father who ministers deeply to our hearts and in our lives. He has a love that never fails. And in our world filled with trials, that kind of love is desperately needed.

Underneath the restless surface
Of each trial that comes in life
Flows the Savior’s love and powerâ€"
They can calm our inner strife. â€"D. De Haan

Thousands of fans voted for Mark Caguioa to play in the 2011 PBA Hala Bola All-Star game.

Too bad, they won’t see the Barangay Ginebra spitfire spark the North All-Stars here in sunny Boracay.

The PBA Commissioner’s Office confirmed on Wednesday Caguioa’s decision to skip the All Star, the second time in his career after begging off during the 2006 edition in Cagayan de Oro.

Caguioa, who is still in Los Angeles, informed the league of his absence, citing family problems.

Voted by fans to start for the North squad in the All-Star game at the Boracay Convention Center on Sunday, Caguioa would have been in his sixth all-star appearance.

He’s expected to return next week.

In 2006, Caguioa cited injuries for skipping the event and made it known through his agent, Danny Espiritu. He was fined by the league.

How to Build Your Own Hydrogen Generator For Cars

Many people are skeptical at the idea of water's ability to power a car, which is completely understandable. But the important fact to note is that the car is not running completely on water. Instead, the water (H2O) is broken down into it's component parts i.e. hydrogen and oxygen which is then used to supplement the existing gasoline fuel. It's these separate components which hold the key.

Hydrogen is an extremely explosive gas and makes a superb fuel when burned in oxygen. In fact, NASA uses a liquid-hydrogen and oxygen combustion method to launch the space shuttle. The by product of burning hydrogen and oxygen is a release of huge amounts of energy, plus water vapour. When you see a space shuttle launch, the huge plumes of "smoke" you see aren't really smoke at all - it's clouds of water vapour (i.e steam) that results from the hydrogen-oxygen combustion.

Cars and Automotive / Benefits of HD Car Lights
May 19, 2011, 03:16:31 AM
As mention above that the HID lights can provide a higher light intensity with
a lower power consumptions, there are some other factors to make it so popular.

1. Color temperature: HID has a range of color temperature measured in K, which
is a measures of the color for the lighting output. The common color temperatures
are 3000K (Golden Yellow) , 4300K (Bright White), 5000K (white), 6000K (Crystal
White),8000K (Crystal Blue), 10000K (Aqua Blue), 12000K (Purple-Blue). While
5000K and 6000K are the most common color temperature for HID lamps and its
widely accepted by most drivers because of the natural sun lights it provided.

2. Lifetime for HID lights: Most of the HID lights can last for around 2500
hours.

3. Lesser power consumption: HID lights can generate 3 times greater the light
intensity compared to the original halogen bulbs with even lesser power consumption.
You can save it up to 25% on the power.

The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday said six new people were tested positive of human immune-deficiency virus (HIV) last month in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) bringing to 64 the number of HIV/AIDS cases in the region.

Dr. Celia Flor Brillantes, member of the DOH-CAR epidemiology department, said of the total number, 17 already died.

The six new cases are composed of one female and five males, she said. The five males were found out to have sex with men, she added.

She said the government, in its effort to prevent further spread of the disease, has sustained its educational, counseling, medication and other forms of assistance to people with HIV/AIDS and the vulnerable groups.

"Based on our studies, most of those afflicted are overseas contract workers, entertainers, and others who do not practice monogamy," Brillantes said. (PNA)

The anti-graft court Sandiganbayan justices who approved the plea bargaining agreement between former Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) comptroller retired Maj. Gen. Carlos F. Garcia and the Office of the Ombudsman (Ombudsman), through the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), were criminally charged before the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday.

Under the agreement, Garcia pleaded guilty to a lesser offense of from P303-million plunder case to direct bribery and money laundering charges.

He was allowed to post a P60,000 bail bond on Dec. 16, 2010 and was released from detention on Dec. 17, 2010.

Likewise, Garcia was also ordered to return to the government P135-million worth of properties.

In a six-page joint complaint-affidavit, former Akbayan party-list Rep. Risa Hontiveros, anti-corruption advocates Leah Navarro and retired Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim filed a complaint for violation of Article 206 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) for rendering an unjust interlocutory order against Sandiganbayan Second Division Chairman and Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Edilberto Sandoval, and Associate Justices Teresita Diaz-Baldos and Samuel Martires.

The complainants asserted that the justices “knowingly and willfully” issued an unjust interlocutory order, saying that, the decision was “unfounded and violative of Article 206 of the RPC.”

Article 206 provides that “any judge who shall knowingly render an unjust interlocutory order or decree shall suffer the penalty of arresto mayor in its minimum period and suspension; but if he shall have acted by reason of inexcusable negligence or ignorance and the interlocutory order or decree be manifestly unjust, the penalty shall be suspension.”

They said that the approval of the plea bargaining agreement is highly irregular considering “the undue haste as it was approved on the day the resignation of former Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez took effect. The division beat to the punch whatever action or decision on the case the incoming Ombudsman might take.”

They added that the Rules of Court also provides that plea bargaining should be done before trial as stated under Section 1 Rule 118.

Likewise, they also pointed out that the aggrieved party, on this case the AFP, should have given its consent before an agreement is entered.

However, they said that the Ombudsman and Garcia disregarded the consent of the AFP.

“According to the Supreme Court, it is the duty of the court to inquire into the circumstances upon which the plea bargaining agreement is premised. They (justices) would have noticed the failure of the prosecution to secure the consent of the offended party, which immediately would be the AFP,” the complainants said.

They added that the Sandiganbayan’s decision “is a complete turnaround from the declaration of the division in denying the motion for bail on Jan. 7, 2010 when they declared that there is evidence showing that the guilt of the accused is strong.”

“The foregoing circumstances are clear as daylight as to cause the justices to disapprove or reject said plea bargaining agreement,” they said. (PNA)

Brand new movies are great! It’s so much fun standing in line at the theater, breathing in the buttery popcorn smell, giddy with anticipation when a new movie is released.

My children love watching the latest and greatest movies, but I just grin when I hear my children singing the songs I used to sing as a kid â€" “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” or “Tomorrow”. Hearing their little off-key renditions is the best music to my ears.

Have you introduced your children to the movies you enjoyed when you were younger?

Swiss Family Robinson (1960)
The Robinson family gets shipwrecked near an island. With hard work and togetherness, they build a majestic tree house. They are faced with many trials - wild animals, weather, and pirates, but their ingenuity carries them through. Great family values!

The Parent Trap (1961)
Twin daughters are raised not knowing about each other, each living with one parent. They unexpectedly bump into each other at summer camp, put two and two together, and work out a scheme to get their parents back together again. This movie is just plain good fun.

Mary Poppins (1964)
Mr. and Mrs. Banks are both so preoccupied with their own interests that their children, Jane and Michael are unhappy. When the magical nanny, Mary Poppins enters their lives, she brings the family closer. Between the penguin scene, the chimney sweep dance, and the magic, your children will be entranced.

The Sound of Music (1965)
The hills are alive with the sound of music. Your home will be alive with the sound of music once your kids watch this one.

Annie (1982)
Oh, how we love Annie! The music, the dancing, the wealthy Mr. Warbucks, and a happy ending. It doesn’t get much better than that!

These five movies are a must in every family library. Share the memories, and sing the tunes. It’s ok if you’re a little off-key. I won’t tell.

Taking the entire family out for an evening of fun can be exciting and something all parents want to do on a regular basis. However, going out costs money and frequently it can cost more than the average family can afford. So, if you want to enjoy an evening with your family consider these 5 cheap nights out where you can really enjoy some family bonding while saving money at the same time.

Cheap Family Night #1 The Movies

I know you are thinking the movies are really expensive and there is no way you can afford to go. However, frequently during the week movie theatres offer specials, even 2 for 1 deals, to get more people in to see movies during the middle of the week. As a result, by taking your family to the movies on a Tuesday or Wednesday as opposed to Friday or Saturday you can save a lot of money. Also, consider popping popcorn at home and carrying it with you in a purse. That way you can enjoy popcorn without spending $5 for a small bag.

Cheap Family Night #2 Bowling

Bowling is a great family activity and like the movies many bowling alleys offer specials during the week, especially for kids. So, have a great dinner at home and head to the bowling alley. Of course, call ahead and find out when your local bowling alley offers specials for families and children.

Cheap Family Night #3 The Park and Ice Cream

All kids love to go to the park and since the park is free it is perhaps one of the best places to go! Your kids will love playing on the monkey bars and merry go rounds and you as parents will enjoy some family time and fresh air. Then, head to your local ice cream parlor and have a cone of your favorite flavor or buy a gallon of ice cream to enjoy at home.

Cheap Family Night #4 Local Sports Game

Many kids really love sports so consider a family night out to a local sports game, even a high school game. Entrance is inexpensive and it can be a lot of fun to watch local people playing a sport. Also, if you head to a high school game you can frequently pay entrance and see girls and boys play. A great family night out!

Cheap Family Night #5 Pizza and Arcade

Another great night out with the family can be enjoying a family size pizza and then playing games in an arcade. Not only will you have a great meal that is inexpensive, but the arcade games are generally inexpensive as well. You can give each child $2-3 in quarters and let them play until they are gone.

Want whiter skin? Better stick to natural methods like eating lots of watermelon, avocado, broccoli, spinach and tomatoes to boost natural glutathione levels in your body, said the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The FDA gave this bit of advice to complexion-conscious Filipinos, warning that high doses of glutathione administered intravenously as a skin-whitening agent has been linked to fatal skin disorders.

FDA chief Dr. Suzette Lazo on Friday expressed alarm over the recent cases of fatal skin disorders such as Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis linked to the unapproved use of glutathione IV administered at 600 milligrams to 1.2 grams once or twice a week.

“We have become increasingly alarmed that people use this in very high doses intravenously as a skin-whitening agent,” Lazo told reporters in a press briefing at the Department of Health office in Manila.

The U.S. Department of Commerce has reported that out of every ten small businesses that are created, only two remain after ten years.1 And while a 20% survival rate can be scary enough to deal with, so can employee benefits costs, mainly, healthcare.

Healthcare costs continue to skyrocket across the board. And while big companies and small businesses continue to struggle to keep costs low, it's usually small businesses that get hit the hardest. Healthcare costs continue to rise, sometimes with double-digit increases every year.

But that doesn't mean there aren't options available. Recently, more light has been shed on additional options to help small businesses save money and still offer healthcare.

Several options exist to help small companies reduce costs. One of the most popular is encouraging employees to get individual health insurance. Instead of you, the employer, subsidizing a large percentage of it, the cost of healthcare is shifted to the employee. And on average, individual premiums are less expensive than those of group plans.

The woman who is a passionate campaigner against violence on women has herself become a victim.

Actress and beauty queen Pilar Pilapil was stabbed and beaten late Thursday night under yet unclear circumstances.

Pilapil, 60, was left for dead by two armed men in a grassy lot at the foot of a hill in Piedra Blanca Subdivision in Barangay (village) San Luis, Antipolo City, according to Senior Superintendent Manuel Prieto, Rizal police director.

The armed men drove off aboard the Kia vehicle of Pilapil, taking with them her companion identified as Rossel Rosalem, Prieto said.

The badly wounded Pilapil appeared at the gate of farm worker Marlon Viray at 11:20 on Thursday night, pleading for help.

“Tulungan niyo ako, tulungan niyo ako (Help me),” Viray, 27, quoted Pilapil as saying.

He told the Inquirer that Pilapil, barefoot and wearing black tights and a dress stained with blood, was shaking the wooden gate and telling him and his companions that her life was in danger.

“Her lips were broken. She had bruises on her face and she was bleeding,” Viray said, adding that they took her immediately to the Antipolo District Hospital. - PDI
