Poems and Poets / Re: Le Jardin Des Tuileries
February 11, 2010, 06:06:09 AM
This winter air is keen and cold,
And keen and cold this winter sun,
But round my chair the children run
Like little things of dancing gold.

Sometimes about the painted kiosk
The mimic soldiers strut and stride,
Sometimes the blue-eyed brigands hide
In the bleak tangles of the bosk.

And sometimes, while the old nurse cons
Her book, they steal across the square,
And launch their paper navies where
Huge Triton writhes in greenish bronze.

And now in mimic flight they flee,
And now they rush, a boisterous band--
And, tiny hand on tiny hand,
Climb up the black and leafless tree.

Ah! cruel tree! if I were you,
And children climbed me, for their sake
Though it be winter I would break
Into spring blossoms white and blue!

I can understand Tiger's sexual situation. Totally understandable.

If he is a sex addict/freak, there is no need for him to see more than one woman.
He should focus his sexual energy and craving towards his lover/wife.

Better to engage with his wife 3+ times a day than to engage with another. He merely needs to re-address his total attention to #1. His wife.

Stories like this make me smile. It's a change from the dull conundrums of everyday news media that focuses on the negative aspect.

One has to take care in driving the roads since the Amish utilize horse drawn carriage for transport.

Good people. They always wave.

Bible Study / Divine Purpose
February 11, 2010, 04:51:16 AM
God's divine purpose for your life is for you to bear spiritual fruit. Your relationship to Jesus (Yeshua) is described in John 15:5 in this way, "He is the vine, and we are the branches."

Again in John 15:16 the Bible declares, "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you."

In order to bear this fruit, you must be planted and properly rooted spiritually:
"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, taht bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper"
(Psalm 1:1-3).

If you want to bear spiritual fruit, then you must reject sin, walk in holiness, and delight in God's law. You must also be planted in the house of God - connected to the Body of Christ.

Hebrews 10:25 tells us not to "forsake the assembling of ourselves together" and Psalm 92:13-14 tells us that:
"Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing...".

Man, to begin with, is not deserving of any honor, nor any glory, nor any praise. For man is a fallen creature. His sin is innate with him. Man, is doomed to perdition. Actually, all men and women are doomed to hellfire. Lest they ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST WHO IS LORD as their personal Lord and Savior.

Simple.

So, my rhetorical question is: "Why should one who is destined to perdition desire glorification for one's self?"

Glorify God, and He shall Justify you.
For our God is a Jealous God.

To HIM belongs all GLORY, HONOR, MAJESTY and PRAISE.

My parents order everything, from our dining table, to our family table, to our fireplace's wooden frame and to our furniture etc from the Amish and the Quakers. They are very good craftsmen. The furniture that they make lasts and is durable; handmade and worth every penny. Its expensive, but it is worth the investment.

Our German Sheppard, Kaiser Wilhelm Salvo Lucino "KAISER", is also from the Amish. We drove to Shippensburg, Pennsylvania back in 2004 to get him. He was at the time only 7 weeks old. And he was already a big furball. lol. Concidentally, there was a large Amish and Quaker population in that region of Pennsylvania.

Kaiser's father, Adam, was a large German Sheppard, powerful and was the sole sheppard that kept some 20+ sheep in line. ha ha ha.

I complemented one Amish man for his excellence in furniture making. For being a good carpenter.
He replied with a smile, "Yes, we try to be good. Being a carpenter is the best profession. Our Savior, Jesus Christ, was also a carpenter."

He smiled and got back to work.

I was brought to smile with that comment. Indeed, he is right. Jesus Christ who is Lord was a carpenter. And his earthly father, Joseph, was, too, a carpenter.

Hahahahaha. Bitaw Te kay ang Eastern Orthodox ang conservative kay sa Catholic pero the same belief ra gihapon ni sila sa leadership lamang nagkalahi. ;D

Unsa man pud nang Quaker Te? Catholic gihapon na sila ug belief o entirely different na gajud?

This Christian denomination is also known as:The Religious Society of Friends, Vince. This Christian Protestant Denomination started in the mid 17th century and since its inception maintained an non-conformist ideology. It is a Christian Body. The center and sole precept of Quakerism is Jesus Christ. First and Foremost. They recognize Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

The beauty of this denomination is that they implement faith through what they call as "spirituality in action."

They manifest this by upholding 4 tenents of their Faith in Jesus Christ:

1. Peace
2. Equality
3. Integrity
4. Simplicity

A well known Quaker, Mr. Robert Barcley once said, ""are only a declaration of the fountain, and not the fountain itself, therefore they are not to be esteemed the principal ground of all Truth and knowledge, nor yet the adequate primary rule of faith and manners."

Quakers are liberal protestants in that they reject the Lutheran/ mainstream Protestant notion of "Sola Scriptura."

The Quakers, in a way, have similarity to the Catholics and Orthodox Christians in that Salvation for them is in Jesus Christ. However, Christ offers salvation, but to be saved one needs to accept Christ as Lord and Savior, and also a prequisite is to live and perform faith in one's daily actions. As the saying goes, "Actions speak louder than words."

The Quakers reject most of the modern comforts. They choose to live a simple agrarian, carpenter-like lifestyle.
Honest means and Honest Living.

I know a man who is 25 years of age and behaves, acts, dispenses fine social etiquette befitting that of royal grace. When he speaks, his peers listen and their eyes gaze at his pivotal stature.

I also know of a man whose years are beyond 64. This individual speaks with a vulgar tongue and whose mannerisms are lacking in social etiquette. When he speaks, no one listens, when he rises and walks, no one cares to address his presence.

In this case, age does not matter. It is how one carries himself, defends himself before his peers and dictates the principle that he or she stands for.

The young Octavian, after-all, was able to outsmart the older and perceived wiser Cicero, as well as Marcus Antonius.   In the end, it was the cunning brevity of the young Octavian that was responsible for the ushering of Pax Romana, thereby giving birth to an Empire.

Age does not matter. Actions speaks louder than a whining old wind bag.

During a recent medical trip, my love and I were partners in taking patients' vitals etc.
After 10 hours on the floor taking patients etc, I decided to take a break.

I stood on the corner, with my cup of ginger honey tea. My eyes affixed to my woman. Observing her caring for patients and giving orders to the nursing staff/ nursing students.

I have not seen such beautiful balance of knowledge and strictness yet with a kindness in her zeal for treating the patient and addressing the nursing students who worked alongside us medical students.

Her long black hair, her sharp features, and her beautiful face captured my total and absolute attention.
She walks with such grace enrobed in her medical white coat, and her green scrubs underneath. How galant she walked and addressed the nursing staff, who bowed and accepted her orders justified in her confidence and her knowledge on the disease and on said material.

I could not help but break a smile on my tired and stressed body. My lips gave away a smile. And a chuckle.

Her sense being keen and observant, turns to my direction. Her eyes meets mine. Gazing.

I was able to break her concentration. She smiles. And what a smile it is...a smile that can light up the entire room. The smile of a beautiful Anesthesiologist-in-training.

As I finished my cup of tea, I threw out my plastic mug, walked to the vitals desk, and approached her. To my warmth and presence she turns her head, her eyes affixed to me. I whisper to her, "I watched you. Beautiful. You are utterly beautiful..."

As I walk to my desk, as I put my white coat on and ready my stethoscope, she gently touches my face with her fingers. And moves her lips "I Love You."

My heart jumps in joy. Back to work!

Next patient!

The Surname: SALVO.

My maternal grandfather's surname is Salvo. And grandfather has Spanish blood. My great grandfather, the late Mr. Ricardo Salvo was half Spanish. His surname was "Salvo."

About the SALVO:

Origin: Spanish, Northern Spain.

Where did the Spanish salvo family come from?

Salvo is one of the Spanish patronymic surnames, created from the name of a male ancestor. It seems that this name came from at least two sources, in some instances coming from the personal name Silvanus derived from the Latin “Silva” which means “wood” and in other instances the name Salvius, from the Latin “Salvus” for “Saved”. These were names of early Christians.

Spelling variations of this family name include: Salva, Salvas, Salvo, Saulvo.

Salvos from Spain, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, Philippines, Portugal, etc have a common ancestor.

Originally, before reading into Obama's Health Care Plan, and I did read over his 900 paged bill (read thoroughly through the 200 some pages of actual information, the rest are all citations etc). In his political oration, the plan sounds good. But if you read through the bill itself, it has holes in it. Government, in effect, has total and absolute centralist control, thereby destroying any state right or individual choice, else be subject to governmental fines and litigation costs.

I do want reform and change, that is a given. I don't agree with all that AMA stands for, some, but not all. I do agree that the cost of medical insurance should be lowered and that there should be some kind of limitation to MEDICAID enrollees for the elderly and for those that are mentally and physically incapable of caring for themselves. In regards to health care reform, the problems is due to the extensive pharmaceutical interest lobbyists as well as the health insurance lobbyists implementing 'political' swaying. The only way to address the situation in answering all needs, which is:

1. reducing healthcare costs
2. reducing pharmaceutical/health care company litigation control
3. preventing reimbursement changes to medical providers

reduce the insurance interest groups' control in government policy. We can provide easy and cheap health care without having government take complete control of the medical system.

My opinion.

2. YES!

The Obama health-care plan is headed in a positive direction by all historic indicators.

It began with February’s expansion of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program after years of failure, providing insurance to millions of additional vulnerable children. Then, the passage of the economic stimulus bill helped states maintain current levels of care for their poorest citizens. Now, a new secretary, Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, with a dedicated commitment to the common good has been nominated.

The administration has undertaken a summit at the White House to explore all the possibilities, with four particularly key objectives.

The first is finding ways to insure every American. At a time of foreclosures and job losses, the last worry anyone needs is whether they can get thoughtful care with appropriate follow-up if an emergency befalls them. Current law provides for continued insurance under COBRA if a job is lost, but this is incredibly expensive for familiesâ€"particularly if someone has no job. But SCHIP expansion aside, more than 40 million people still have no insurance.

A second objective has been transparency, so the remarkably expensive enterprise of medical care doesn’t become a new pork barrel of inefficiency. This leads to the third goal: cost efficiency.

Tremendous efficiencies are possible because they are currently being achieved by our economic competitors around the world. Increased health-care efficiencies were probably the leading engine for the economic expansion during the 1990s. The United States currently has the developed world’s most inefficient system, costing more than twice as much as other systems while performing poorly on many health indices.
Thus, a fourth goal is heightened quality, like that supported by the significantly expanded medical research in the stimulus bill. Better health, after all, is a goal shared by everyone, and Obama has moved us a giant step closer by forcefully articulating these four objectives.

It's actually quite rivetting to read about the debates going on between physicians who stand in polar sides of the political spectrum regarding this topic:

1. NO!

President Barack Obama’s health-care plan at best is not reform at all, and at worst will expand the poorest performing segments of our health-care system and further erode what little choice currently exists at the individual patient and provider level.

“Universal health-care coverage,” according to the president’s plan, would be largely driven by enrollment in public programs, such as Medicaid and SCHIP, in which the government sets benefit levels and provider reimbursement rates. Being nominally “covered” in a public health insurance program is of little value if prohibitively low reimbursement rates and administrative hassles prevent physicians from accepting you as a patient.

Although the patient is the central figure and the key decision maker in the health-care system, the president’s plan unfortunately appears to continue the paternalistic view that government, not the individual patient, should decide the value of health-care services. Individual patients, regardless of income level, are capable of making appropriate decisions about their own health care, given the proper incentives.

Giving patients ownership of their health-care resources and choice over how those resources will be spent will also increase the demand for transparency about the cost and quality of services.

Rather than attempting to control the behavior of payers and providers through mandates and price controls, the president should realign incentives by giving patients the financial support they need and allowing them to choose from a variety of insurance coverage options, according to their needs. This is the same system available to President Obama and all other federal employees.

Ultimately, the goal of real reform should be for the government to stop trying to design and operate public health-insurance plans and instead focus on providing disadvantaged individuals with the necessary funds to buy into the same system that everyone else uses.

'te,

It's a health care reform policy that has yet to be implemented because it has to go the Senate. It will be addressed time and time again. Considering the loss of the democratic super majority, which is critical to the passing of this bill in the Senatorial House, it would result in a compromise between both Republicans and Democrats concerning said bill.

I do not have enough time to post right now, but I shall divulge more later on. I shall keep this bookmarked.

Because you know some of the stars we see at night are already dead, it took billions of years for the light to reach our solar system and to be witnessed by our own eyes in that particular moment.

Literally. The past comes alive.

So when people say, "i can see a ghost." That is true.
In this sense, in the cosmic sense, it is true.
For the stars that we see, are, indeed, ghosts. Some of the stars we see are dead stars.

The first national convention of the Tea Party movement drew around 600 people from all walks of life.

Workshops included "US Govt Bankruptcy - Facts for Citizens Who Don't Have Finance Degrees" and seminars such as "Comparisons between the current administration and the Marxist dictators of Latin America".

Many participants, like Christine and her friend Gail Dorody, a truck driver from Charade, Illinois, have never been involved in politics before.

Lack of respect

Ms Dorody's main concern is that the rest of the world no longer has respect for America.

"We have a president that goes around apologising for us. For what? If it wasn't for us most of the countries out there would be destroyed," she says.

The Tea Party movement describes itself as a grassroots movement of conservatives.
Tea Party movement convention
Some boycotted the conference due to the costs involved

The millions of tea partiers, as they are known, are organised into local groups, or internet communities across the country.

Barely a year old, the movement gained exposure last August when its followers organized mass protests against the Obama administration's health care reforms.

One tea party group, Tea Party Express, campaigned for Massachusetts Republican Scott Brown in January's vote for the Senate seat left vacant by the death of Ted Kennedy.

Mr Brown's win helped put health reform plans on hold - a victory the tea parties are claiming as their own, and one they're hoping to emulate in November's congressional elections.

At the convention it was announced one tea party is forming a political action committee (PAC) - the fundraising groups that raise money for candidates.

Ensuring Freedom, as this Tennessee-based PAC is known, aims to raise $10 million to target up to 20 seats in the elections, supporting candidates who adhere to tea party beliefs.

Dr Dan Eichenbaum, an opthamologist form Northern Carolina, is one tea partier who has decided to run for Congress on a Republican ticket.

"What has happened over the last 30 years is power has become concentrated in Washington, because politicians have become career politicians."

They do have a point. We are spending ourselves into debt. Good article link, Mike.

For children and for nursing mothers: give daily vit D / calcium to yourself and your child.

For post-menopausal women, and elderly individuals (who are target of bone loss and osteoclastic activity), make sure to take your daily recommended dose of vit D and Calcium.

I LOVED it.

The Lyrics:

May buta nga albularyo
Manghinambal sa among baryo
Bisan tuod siya buotan
Usahay may pagka-pilyado

Tanang sakit iyang tambalan
Bisan pa ma-engkanto
Ang uban kanila mamaayo
Ang uban usab mamenteryo

Dunay babayeng masakiton
Gitambalan niya'g orasyon
Ang albularyong mapahiyumon
Nihapuhap sa sakit sa pus-on

Ang babaye sab diay alisto
Nanagang ug dayon palayo [??]
Kai kung mohikap ang buta na albularyo
Basin mahikapan ang dili mao

Lalalalala lalala lala lala
Usa siya ka albularyong buta
Lalalalala lalala lala lala
Mutambal nga magpiyong ang mata

Dunay b***t galisod _____ [??]
Nagreklamo's hubag sa ilok
Sa albularyo iyang gipakumot
Aron kuno mobuto, mokipot

Dako ang iyang pasalamat
Kay nihiyos wala na nagngotngot
Apan paglingkod siyang nahi-ulpot
Laing hubag nitubo sa iyang lubot

Lalalalala lalala lala lala
Usa siya ka albularyong buta
Lalalalala lalala lala lala
Mutambal nga magpiyong ang mata

May lalaking grabe ang deperensya
Nakatulon kuno'g kutsara
Nagsiga nalang ang mata
Panagsa nalang moginhawa

Gitambagan sila sa albularyo
Gipauli dayon sa ilaha
Inig abot kuno dayon pahigdaa
Moskiterohi ug tabla

Lalalalala lalala lala lala
Usa siya ka albularyong buta
Lalalalala lalala lala lala
Mutambal nga magpiyong ang mata

Lalalalala lalala lala lala
Usa siya ka albularyong buta
Lalalalala lalala lala lala

General Topic / The Filipino Medical Diaspora
February 08, 2010, 10:04:50 AM
Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen,

I would like to talk about the instance of the Filipino Medical Diaspora. We all know that there are thousands upon thousands of Filipino Nurses as well as Doctors and other allied health professionals that are waiting to go abroad. To fill in the ranks of the much needed medical help/work in foreign hospitals, in the process augmenting their medical work force.

There is a multipotency in pursuing a life abroad for many Filipino Medical Professionals; namely to provide a better life and living for themselves, their family as well as to provide financial support to extended relatives back in the philippines. In the medical field, we have numerous stories of kababayans leaving the motherland in search for greener pastures, in search to provide a better life for their children and their families than what was available in the home country.

In the hospital that I am in currently in Newark, NJ, I have befriend a recent graduate of the University of the East College of Medicine. He graduated this past May 2009 with his M.D, and is currently doing rotations with our group, as well as telling me of the situation on the ground in the Philippines. He tells that the very few Filipinos who are able to score high in the medical boards (philippine and American) are selected by the medical recruiters, the rest, who fall in the fray, are left to wait for a medical match, or are forced to apply for medical positions in other foreign countries (UK, Middle East, Europe, etc). The rest, are driven to such desperation that some doctors take an advanced 10 month nursing program and look for nursing positions abroad; namely the US and Canada.

Sam, a fellow colleague and a new friend, tells me of the required 1 month Community medicine elective that U of E enforces. He was sent to Antipolo on his last year to serve with the local public health physician in that region and performed thousands of circumcisions, general labor, as well as treated the plethora of tuberculosis, kwashiorkor, marasmus, malarial and dengue incidents. Exhausting and life changing, he says. "You come out of this with a newfound respect for the resiliency of the common man, and the necessity of general public health in the Philippines."

I was amazed by his experience. Driven, i inquired more stories.

I do feel as if the Philippines is giving away too many of its best and brightest doctors, nurses, physical therapists. I cannot help but feel guilty. Guilty in the way that I have not been able to visit the country and do my share, my lions' share of community medicine.

I have decided, that, when I am finished with residency. I would like to start, with proper help and networking with other like minded medical professionals and investment partners, would like to start a Free Medical Clinic/ Hospital in the Philippines. Somewhere around the Visayas. The gravity of the situation in the Philippines is powerful to hear about. The destitution and the medical disparity in my motherland is is great. People, the Filipino people are dying of kwashiorkor (protein malnutrition), marasmus (total nutritional deficiency / starvation) as well as dengue and malaria. All of these cases are unheard of in the western world, particularly in the united states and western europe. These are all preventables.

I feel as if the Diaspora has facilitated this situation. There is no one left, the best of the best, that is, that is willing to stay in their beloved Philippine Motherland.

This must be curved.

Sincerely,
A. Lorenzo Lucino Jr.

Former US vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin has spoken at the first US Tea Party convention, urging a return to conservative principles.

Speaking in Nashville, Mrs Palin called President Obama's 2011 budget "immoral" and said it would raise the US debt.

The year-old Tea Party movement includes many people who oppose Barack Obama's plans for healthcare reform and the president's stimulus package.

Mrs Palin said future generations would pay the cost if spending was not cut.

"It's easy to understand why Americans are shaking their heads when Washington has broken trust with the people that these politicians are to be serving," she told the convention. - BBC

She does have a point. Without being disrespectful to the message she gives; we do have a multi-trillion dollar debt. Something that should be tackled head on.

I do wonder if she really is serious about running for president.

I feel as if Dr. Ron Paul should take the helms this time.

There are numerous Free-Health Clinics in around the United States, which are run through private funds and are supported by kind donations from every day citizens. Providing free medical care to those who are homeless and or unable to shoulder the costs of a standard health insurance coverage.

I and many of my colleagues are part of the AMSA (American Medical Students' Association) Health Reform Body. We are fighting (through proper litigation) for a reform of how Health Insurance Companies provide health options and to change the unfair policies it implements in reimbursing the medical staff.

Health insurance Companies consume a lions' share of all medical costs. There are many other agencies that want reform to the unfair practices of medical reimbursement, such agencies include :

A.M.A (American Medical Association)
A.N.A (American Nurses' Association)
A.A.A.P (American Academy of Physician Assistants)
A.P.T.A (American Physical Therapists' Association)

Tataw man jud nga nitaas ang poverty rate sa Amerika. Ang maig-an ug sakit maoy maka-pobre pag-ayo.

Here in the United States we do not process any downpayment ; nor is there a downpayment requirement for a medical emergency. If an individual does not have health insurance and is suffering from chest pains and is rushed to the hospital (can be a 1st tier to a 4th tier hospital), he or she will be triaged and then treated by the attending physician and assessed immediately.

The policy for medical emergency situations is treat now; bill later.

The amount a patient has to pay aside from co-pay depends on the health insurance provider the said patient has; and the percent the health insurance provider is willing to cover as said and agreed upon in the contract. Amount of coverage will vary.

For foreign travelers to the United States, you should be provided if you  purchase Traveler's Insurance, which should be accepted and recognized by most American Hospital Systems.

Some Pinoy songs that have been recorded by foreign artists:

Ngayon at Kailanman - composed by George Canseco, original version by Basil Valdez; translated into English ("Come Spend Your Life with Me"?) and recorded by Matt Monroe

A Million Thanks to You - composed by Doris Gamilla, recorded by Pilita Corrales; various versions by foreign artists

Anak - composed and recorded by Freddie Aguilar; recorded in various languages (Child, Bambino, etc.) still with Freddie as artist, but with foreign producers; other foreign artists also have some cover versions

Dahil sa Iyo - composed by Miguel Velarde Jr. with lyrics by Dominador Santiago; written in 1938 for the movie Bituing Marikit and sung by the "King of the Philippine Movies" Rogelio de la Rosa. A version with English-Tagalog lyrics, recorded in 1964, was a hit in the US; translated into different languages; one popular version with Tagalog-English lyrics is that of The Lettermen. Velarde said: "Sometime in 1960 a famous US singer who made a personal appearance in Manila presented me a contract seeking authority to record the song in the States. The five figure offer was fabulous but I turned it down - simply because she wanted to change the title to an American title. I couldn't, and wouldn't sell the identity we are trying hard to establish. The merits of the song is its identity." Source: Wikipedia

since i came in this part of the globe, i've never seen a president in the USA who is as passionate as Obama regarding his platform of government. until now he is still going from one community forum to another, even facing his Republican opponents and engaging them in a debate, just to explain and assure the people about his well-intentioned dream for healthy America.

i am just wondering how could one face all of those emotional debates, if he is not totally convinced that his program is not a pile of bullshits.

This is beyond the topic matter, but OBAMA has completely violated many of his campaign tenents. He came into the election process promising to remove the American soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan.

On the contrary, he allowed and ushered an additional 30,000 American troops to Afghanistan.

Obama is a good talker. He's a good orator. I give him that. But in regards to the game that is Washington Politics, he is a kitten.

We have accumulated more debt in one year of his administration than the combined expenses made by the previous Bush Administration.

As we speak, The Democratic Supermajority in Congress is thinning.
---

I will admit that I was taken by the OBAMA Wave earlier this year. But actions, as always, speaks louder than words.
I am not impressed with his policy making. He talks too much. Little action, too much talk.

now AMA is right! you sided the HCR before and now you're in your third year, you sided the AMA.

I was never for the HCR, 'te, on the contrary, in my many posts before this and in many other threads, I specifically posted my opposition on some policies enacted by the Health Insurance Companies. I am, in particular, against how some HCR lobbyists have filtered their influence into the seat of congress by bribing and 'enticing' Washington's politicians.

I believe in a free market society, but I am against corruption and using money to champion a political agenda. Corruption is corruption.

If you happen to read into articles, you will notice that AMA has time and time again opposed some policies of the Health Insurance Companies and its effect on the autonomy of the physician. AMA has championed the cause of not only the physician, but for the physicians that want to provide cheap medical care to uninsured patients, but are being contradicated by the policies set in place by the Health Insurance Companies. If Physicians violate such policies, could be, under penalty of loosing their medical license.

Trust me we understand the current situation.
That is why we are addressing the need for medical change.
We want proper change.

Completely putting the responsibilities of the physician and the medical system under the government's control will do no better. Be realistic in the situation. If this was to be implemented, we would be looking at a multi-trillion dollar annual expense. How would we be able to pay for it?

Answer: Government, will, of course, have to raise taxes. Taxes.

Someone's going to have to pay for this. If government pays, then it means a huge tax increase.

Nothing in this world is black and white. Look into the situation as I think you do not have a proper understanding of the current situation regarding the health care reform bill. And what it seeks to implement. As you have not even mentioned a single inference on any of its literature.

Cheers.

You make a good point, you raise the question of "Why not free health care and why military action?"

Politics, my dear. It is simple politics. The robber barons of our time would rather rob the financial life of the physician and the common man. As in the end, the physician does not make that much income as what some of you might think and put heavy emphasis on "Greedy Docs". The blame should be directed towards the businessmen and corporate owners who make policy. The ones who make money from this is the Health Insurance Company CEOs.

I, myself and many other of my generation of medics want reform. We want SOLID and PROPER reform. We do not want empty promises and no action.

We want many things, which are addressed by the AMA and many other health organizations that speak for the unheard voices of the uninsured. Namely, this is too much to list in this post; rather I would have you search and visit AMA's website and read what it stands for and what it believes in policy change.

We enter this profession because it is a noble cause. It is a calling.
The ones who do make money of it are the politicians that implement laws that require us to follow, under penalty of license suspension.

We need to address many things:

1. Raise immigration quota laws for foreign medical grads
2. Raise the amount of medical school acceptance rates for medics
3. Raise the salary for some medics (specially PCPs)
4. Reduce and limit / put a cap on medical malpractice
5. Reduce the insurance company's autonomy in impelementing policy
6. Give uninsured indviduals cheaper/affordable health insurance coverage.

These are the changes that would ultimately change the situation at hand. Now we need to implement it.

A.L.L

That is besides the point, Manay Tess, as we are not discussing medical missions abroad.
We are discussing the status of the health care reform in the United States.

And to reiterate to you as well as others, there are thousands of American Physicians who are enlisted in MSF (Mediciens Sans Frontiers) {Doctors Without Borders}.
As well as not to include the thousands of medical physicians/nurses and medical specialists that go on medical missions abroad. The amount of medical donations the United States does to the world, to Africa, alone has exceeded over 50 billion dollars. (All from the Bush Administration).

My aunt, who is a Trauma Nurse specialist as well as my tito who is a medical doctor from Georgia has gone on medical missions abroad. I myself have volunteered hundreds of hours on free health clinics during my undergraduate years as well as in Medical Proper. On November 29,2009, I devoted and gave 14 hours on a free health clinic drive; treating and seeing over 200 patients that day.

The topic we are discussing is not based on loving neighbors.
It is based on the feasibility of this kind of reform to the current financial situation.
And given legal situation.

Again, I will reiterate, it is about PRINCIPLE. :)

Poems and Poets / Song For Rustico (Tribute to my lolo)
February 05, 2010, 03:14:29 PM
This song was one of the favorite song of my Papa Titing (my father's dad).

He died in 1979.
Leaving a wife and 7 beautiful children.

My Mama Luz (my grandmother) lived on for another 16 years without her husband.

They used to dance (cha cha, waltz etc) so much when they were alive together.
My father and my antes tell me that Papa Titing was a good dancer. Kalingaw mo sayaw.
The lyrics to this particular song describes his soul's longing for my grandmother; and for her longing for him.

Death, truly, could not separate them.
And in death, they are united again.

They are buried together. United in death, as they were in Life.

I cry when I hear this song. I can see them dancing....  :'(

Ang kamingaw pagkasakit

Nagadugo nagadugo

Kay nawala kay nawala
Ang gugma ko ug himaya

What can I do what can I do
My life is nothing without you

ang AMA man jud ang against ani. di na kasapi ang mga greedy docs! tan awa sa France ug ubang continents dili datu ang mga doctor kay ang pagka doctor didto is VOCATION...diri ang health is a BUSINESS.

You cannot compare because first of all, the playing grounds regarding MEDICAL EDUCATION between both countries are totally different. France, UK and many other EU nations have government that will provide and pay educational costs, fully reimuburse the medical student. So financial aspect is covered.

In the United States, the medical student / physician pays out of pocket or through medical loan, which must be paid back, and are given in outrageous interest rates.

The average medical student comes out with about $300,000-$400,000 in debt.
Thats alot. Thats a cost to a rather nice house.
Now imagine having to pay that amount as that amount is being charged an APR of 15-20%.

It's not about greed. It's about principle. The Principle.
Either you get it or not.

For those of us who want to talk and debate on the subject matter, it is best to actually read the entire 900+ pages of the Obama Health Care Reform Bill and the stance of the AMA (American Medical Association).

AMA represents not only doctors, dear colleagues and intelligent peoples, but represents a continuum of a plethora of medical specialties: Medical Physicians & Surgeons, Medical Nurses, Nurse Specialists, Physician's Assistants and Medical Administrators.

AMA presents its policy because it is supported and backed by the thousands upon thousands of American Physicians and Medical Professionals.

Hence, THEREFORE, its opinion carries weight and authority/ legitimacy.

Wrong, absolutely wrong.

AMA implemented this because it is a protective policy to keep the American Medical System, which is the best in the world, the best in the world.

It is impossible to compare medical system in France to that of the United States. One follows a socialist policy, as is with most of Europe and the EU. The United States, does not yet follow a socialist system.

And in actuality, you are wrong. Physicians in Europe do not go into medicine as a vocation, they go into the field because they are chose to do so, the same way as we go into medicine here in the United States, as well as in the Philippines in any other situation.

The Physician, like any other, like even you nurses, also has to eat. Has to pay his bills.
We live in a realistic world. Not idealistic.

You have  a  point  Lorenzo   but  think  about  those  that  can't  afford what  you  can  because  you  are  a  doctor...

It is not about affording or not. It is about the concept of the health system. If we give in to a sympathetic plea and abandon the entire system that is in place, which was set in place for a particular reason, then would result in ramifications.

We have free clinics out there in society.

We do not live in a idealist world. Things in life cost money, everything costs something. The salary of nurses, the nursing staff, the therapists, cost of money to buy drugs, utensils, catheters, surgical tools, salary of administration, salary of physicians etc.

In life, and in society, everything functions via a corporate level. Hospitals are corporations.
Mo talk ko in words of business men/ CEOs. Mo step out ko sa box of a physician'/medical intern's point of view:

Businesses work through profits and revenue. Profit is equal to total revenue minus the cost of operation and payables. diba? In order for a system to work, for everything to function, the profit must exceed cost of operations. Diba? Else, the entire system will buckle. Mo bankrupt. Mao na'y wa jamo daghan free-health clinics. Kai..everyone needs to live. Things happen in a system. Pariho ra pood ni sa body..hehehe.
Mo kaon ta kai ang lawas it requires sugars, so mo bring ni sa glucagon pathway, diba? Mo kaon ang lawas kai necessary man sa sustensya sa lawas na we get our dialy requirements of proteins, essential amino acids, as well as the right water balance. Ug mo deprive ta ani...ma guba ang lawas. Hence we seen instances of Kwashiorkor (excessive protein malnutrition--resulting in hepatomegaly and thinning of the limbs); we also see marasmus (overall nutritional starvation).

Pariho ra ning examples nako sa system sa hospital. System man pood na. Instead of specialized cells etc etc; ang cells aning example are doctors, nurses, staff etc. Staff need nutrition as well. Else will lead to nutritional hypoloading. he he he.

~~

Everything in society is all about CAUSE and EFFECT.

May wisdom always come out of our mouths. And to speak Truth.
