Impractical Shoes

A fly pair of shoes is always StyleBlazer Certified but what’s the point of them if you can’t properly walk? If you’re not accustomed to a six inch heel, go for a more practical pair. It beats wobbling down the sidewalk or falling flat on your face.

Toe hang time

Summer will be here in a few months and that means the strappy sandals will be dusted off. But that also means we’ll see a few toes hanging over the edge of shoes and practically scraping the sidewalks. Give it a rest ladies, just go a size up!
#32138
Overdosing On Accessories

A ring here, a statement necklace there. Chunky bangles here and oversized earrings there. Sounds good, right? But wearing them all at the same time is dizzying and automatically downgrades any look.
#32139
Sloppy slouchy clothes

On the other end of the fit spectrum is the sloppy “I just rolled out of bed style.” Don’t get us wrong, we love cuffed jeans and oversized shirts but when there’s absolutely no structure to your look, it’s just messy, not casual.
#32140
Super Tight Pants

There’s nothing wrong with form fitting garments (who doesn’t want to show their curves?) but there’s a limit. If your pants are  giving you serious camel toe, that means they’re way too tight. And it’s seriously distracting for others.
#32141
Wearing Tights as Pants

Tights are the quickest way to transition your wardrobe (like wearing them under your summer dress on a brisk fall day). But tights are not, we repeat not, to be worn as pants. They compliment whatever outfit you’re wearing but they don’t offer enough coverage to be the sole bottom you’re rocking.
#32142
Muffin top

Whether you’re a size 2 or 12, you can be the victim of muffin top. When your pants are too snug and your shirt is too tight, that bulge appears and it’s enough to make anyone cringe in embarrassment for you.

Rojas said unclaimed prizes will form part of the charity fund that is being used to provide medical assistance to patients seeking treatment across the country.

He said an average of 1,000 patients receive the PCSO assistance daily.

The PCSO, which has set up a medical facility at the Lung Center of the Philippines, also increased the daily fund for medical assistance from P5 million to P11 million.

“The PCSO will set up satellite medical facilities in various parts of the country to reach out to patients needing medical assistance,” Rojas added.

PCSO forfeits P100-M unclaimed lottery prizes

By Perseus Echeminada (The Philippine Star)
June 05, 2012

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) has reverted to the charity funds of the agency some P100 million in unclaimed prizes of its online lottery games, a top official of the agency said over the weekend.

This action was taken after the one-year period to claim the winnings expired.

Jose Ferdinand Rojas, PCSO general manager, told reporters during a news forum at Hotel Rembrandt in Quezon City that the unclaimed winnings included both minor and major prizes of the 6/42 Lotto, 6/45 Mega Lotto, 6/49 Super Lotto and 6/55 Grand Lotto games.

Below P5,000 winnings can be claimed at lotto outlets while major prizes can be claimed in the PCSO’s Central office at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.

It is indeed a good development that Aseans had been united in its stand in the west Philippine sea basing on UNCLOS. This is a wise move knowing that unity will make Asean become an economic hub of the world replacing EU which are plaque with so many problems. Time is coming that the poor members of asean grouping to become economically and militarily strong. With 600 million population it can surely stand against the bullying of China. (by khaolak707)

some comments on the news item:

Indeed talking time is gone and diplomacy has been given long enough time without much result. China's current leadership has no word of honor yet they always insist on bilateral talks. I agree with you that as long as they are inside our EEZ and territorial waters we should be bold enough to teach them lessons. Perhaps some fireworks will really demonstrate our resolve as long as it is done inside our jurisdiction. I believe China is unsure of its exact legal position which is why it is just sending FLEC and CMS vessels instead of warships. If they are also sure of their alleged sovereignity over Panatag then why hadn't they arrested any of our fishermen. Simple, they know they cannot enforce their laws on our territory. They are in Panatag to test how much we know about our rights and if we are bold enough to assert them. I believe we should and we should not be scared. Our heroes like Lapu-lapu, Bonifacio, Gregorio del Pilar and many others did not blink in front of overhwelming enemy force why should we be afraid of mere threats and harrasments. Asean OKs sea code

By AP (The Philippine Star)
July 11, 2012

PHNOM PENH â€" Ten Southeast Asian nations have agreed on a code of conduct to prevent armed clashes over the South China Sea but still seek to get China to agree to it, a Cambodian official said yesterday.

The agreement was reached at a meeting of foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), to which China does not belong.

The issue of contending maritime claims is the major topic of the talks held in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh, in large part because tensions over the sea have escalated in recent months.

Philippine and Chinese ships engaged in a standoff in Panatag Shoal starting in April, and Vietnam last month protested Chinese energy proposals for seas both nations claim.

#32162
As the little red booklet concludes: “One can’t deny there’s still so much randomness to any system, secret or not, in trying to beat the odds of winning the lotto jackpot. The PCSO weekly lotto is so efficient, so open and transparent, there’s just no way one could figure out some kind of pattern of winning numbers can emerge and be captured in such a 'scientific' system like this one.” (PNA)

http://balita.ph/
#32163
Well, idiot or not, there are two chapters in that red booklet (Chapter 4 and 5) that reveals the “secret system” of gathering all winning lotto numbers over five or six months and filtering out the “highest frequency numbers” that gives the most probability of hitting the jackpot’s six winning numbers. Now, whether this system actually works or not, no one knows, for sure.

Until now, it’s still debatable whether or not the red booklet has something to do with the two Davao lotto jackpot winners last year who won two of the country’s biggest jackpots. (We aren’t sure whether it was P145-million or P175-million).

Our best bet is: they probably won out of pure luck â€" because no one can really tell whether or not these two guys work out their own “winning system” using the red booklet as a reference. And there’s no way of knowing their identities, which will always remain secret for security reasons.
#32164
The red booklet which was trying to justify one’s feeling of guilt in buying sweepstake or lotto, continued: “So you can think of it this way â€" buying a PCSO lotto ticket is like donating money to the poor and the sick with the added advantage and probability of amassing a large fortune, if you’re lucky.”

Although hundreds have already gotten a copy of this little red booklet “How To Win Lotto” from such bookstores as Velasco near city hall, Jade bookstore at Ateneo de Davao commercial building and Pen Haus at Victoria Plaza, there’s really nothing special nor scientific about it. Fact is, it doesn’t really guarantee winning the lotto.

Since jackpot lotto winners at PCSO are never identified, the booklet’s author also opts not to be identified openly except to say that it’s written by an “anonymous idiot” who ALMOST won the lotto jackpot. This simply means, he didn’t hit all the six sets of numbers to win the jackpot â€" he only hit five, but nevertheless got a fat Landbank check for it from Davao PCSO Office some years ago.
#32165
Maharlika Foundation is right on top of the office of PCSO, its main benefactor, along Cabaguio Avenue. And it is here where you bump into the poorest of the poor trying to get free medicines and free hospitalization from PCSO.

Not only do we see them at the PCSO office on some occasions, but also on the pages of a little red booklet titled “How To Win Lotto” which cited the PCSO for helping the poor in Davao seek free medical help

On page 23, it says “if you just drop by the Davao PCSO district office at J. Cabaguio Avenue on any working day, you will see very poor people lining up to seek financial and medical help from PCSO. Don’t be surprised why the Maharlika Charity Foundation which owns the building occupied by the PCSO is operating a free well-equipped hospital for the poor, right upstairs.”

reality check:

Winning the lotto and helping the poor

May 26, 2009

By Aurelio A. Pena

DAVAO CITY, May 25 â€" For such well-regarded government institution as the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) with lotto dealer outlets in almost every corner of this southern bustling city, it’s hard to disregard and ignore its impact in the lives of ordinary people here.

We’ve not gotten around to interview the local top official here, but bumping into impoverished farmers trying to get their children medical help and even hospitalization at the Maharlika Charity Foundation medical center along J. Cabaguio Avenue here â€" one gets a sense that all that money from sweepstakes and lotto sales are actually trickling down to the poor masses who desperately need medical help.

aaahhh, hope.  i have everything.  who could ask for anything more?  i will survive (singing), and i will win! ;D
#32171
i buy only one lotto number combination at a time.  i figured only one number wins the jackpot anyway, so why buy more than one?  this way, the expense keeps me from cringing.  the cost is covered by "grocery expense", say, an average of 10 or 20 pesos a day.  i did the math, and it's bearable.

it would be hypocritical to say that i do not expect to win.  i do.  but it won't kill me if i didn't win.  remember, it's just part of the grocery expense.  a kilo of tomatoes costs much more.

my sisters still believe i'm gambling.  gambling it is then, which is nothing but a game of chance.  i go out in the midst of traffic and already i'm gambling with my life, if i have to take in context the meaning of gambling.
#32172
yes!  one can really see where the money goes.  (i'll go to that in a while.)
#32173
Why we should buy Philippine lotto tickets

i buy lotto.  i admit my doing so does not sit well with my two sisters.  well, they always thought i was "the weird one" anyway.  they cannot imagine that i line up at a lotto outlet along with the hoi polloi.  what?  they think they're not hoi polloi as well?  it's my sisters who are the weird ones, actually.  and i'm writing this because if by chance they get to read this, they wouldn't know i'm referring to them since they don't know who i am anyway.  ;D

"Madaling tumakbo, pero paano kung manalo?" (dolphy's famous words when politicians, hoping for a free ride on his popularity, courted him to run for public office)

Several years ago, the great comedian Dolphy Quizon was asked why he has never run for public office. His answer made him greater in my eyes: “What if I win?” The answer is simply brilliant because Dolphy knew that politics is not about winning elections; it is about running government. The real comedy that not even a comedian can teach us is this: we don’t know the difference. We think the winning candidate makes for a winning public official. Or maybe we’ve become too jaded and don’t care anymore. http://angperegrino.com/tag/dolphy/

HOLY freefall Batman, The Joker would have a good laugh at this.

The Caped Crusader landed on a house in Aviemore, in the Cairngorms, yesterday, and then had to wait for locals to help him down.

"Or if he preferred to keep his style intact he could opt for using active propulsion, such as jets to keep himself aloft."

flying jetpack

In a paper titled "Trajectory of a falling Batman", the group argued that if he jumped from a 150-meter (492-foot) high building, the 4.7 meter (15-foot) wingspan of Batman's cape would allow him to glide 350 meters (1148 feet).

However, he would reach a speed of 68 miles per hour (109 km per hour) before hitting the ground at a life-threatening speed of 50 mph.

Dashing the dreams of comic fans across the world, four students from the University of Leicester said that while Batman could glide using his cape as he does in the 2005 film "Batman Begins", his landing would almost certainly prove fatal.

The superhero is back in cinemas later this month in "The Dark Knight Rises" and they suggested Batman should go shopping before trying a similar attempt to become airborne over Gotham City.

"If Batman wanted to survive the flight, he would definitely need a bigger cape," said David Marshall, 22, one of the students in the final year of their four-year Master of Physics degree.

Batman could fly, but he'd crash and die

LONDON, United Kingdom - Holy crash landing Batman! The crime-fighting caped crusader could fly but if he did, he would smash into the ground and probably die, a group of British physics students have calculated.

I actually prefer the version that goes...

To you
My heart cries out "Amnesia"
For I find you, the love of my life
In somebody else's arms

Your eyes
Are echoing "Amnesia"
Forgetful of the promise of love
You're sharing another's charms...

;D
