Nourishing the Gifts of the Holy Spirit

In the second place, God can respond to us in prayer by increasing in our souls the gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, knowledge, understanding, piety, fear of the Lord, fortitude, and counsel. Each of these gifts nourishes our spiritual muscles, so to speak; they build up our spiritual faculties. They make it easier for us to discover God’s will in our lives, to appreciate and want his will, and to carry out that will.  In short, they enhance our ability to believe, to hope, and to love God and neighbor. During a time of prayer, then, when I am addressing God in vocal prayer, or seeking to know him more deeply through mental prayer, or adoring him through liturgical prayer, God’s grace touches my soul, nourishing it through increasing the power of these gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Since these gifts are spiritual, and not material, and since God’s grace is spiritual, I will not always feel the nourishing take place. I may spend fifteen minutes reading and reflecting on the parable of the God Shepherd, and no consoling ideas or feelings are stirred up; my prayer feels dry. But that doesn’t mean that God’s grace is not nourishing my soul, that he is not strengthening within me the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

When I take vitamins (or eat broccoli), I don’t feel my muscles grow, but I know that those vitamins are indeed enabling that growth. Likewise, when we pray, we know we are entering into contact with God’s grace, with a God who loves us and is making us holy. When I don’t experience consolation, I can be certain that God is still working in my soul, strengthening it with his gifts by means of the spiritual vitamins that my soul takes in whenever I have faith-filled contact with God. But I only know this by faith, because God doesn’t always send sensible consolation with this spiritual nourishment. This is why spiritual growth depends so significantly on our perseverance in prayer, regardless of whether we feel consolation.

The Gift of Consolation

In the first place, God can speak to us by giving us what spiritual writers call consolation. Through consolation, he touches the soul and allows it to be comforted and strengthened by a felt awareness of his love, his presence, his goodness, his power, his beauty…

This consolation can flow directly from the meaning of the words of a vocal prayer. For instance, when I pray Blessed Cardinal Newman’s famous “Lead, Kindly Light..” prayer, God may boost my hope and my confidence, simply because the meaning of the words nourish and revitalize my awareness of God’s power and goodness.

The consolation can also flow from the reflection and pondering involved in mental prayer. As I read and reflect slowly, prayerfully on the parable of the Prodigal Son, for example, I can feel my soul being comforted by that picture of the Father embracing the repentant younger brother. That picture of God’s love comes to my mind, and gives me a renewed awareness of God’s mercy and his goodness: “God is so merciful!” I think to myself, and I feel the warmth of his mercy in my heart. That image and those ideas are mine, insofar as they arise in my mind, but they are from God, insofar as they arose in response to my consideration of God’s revelation, in an atmosphere of faith. Or, on another occasion, I could meditate on the same biblical passage and be moved to a deep experience of sorrow for my own sins: in the ungrateful rebellion of the Prodigal Son, I see an image of my own sins and rebellions, and I am repelled by them. Again, the idea of the ugliness of sin and the feeling of sorrow for my personal sins are my own ideas and feelings, but they are a response to God’s action in my mind as he guides my mind’s eye to perceive certain aspects of his truth while I listen to him speaking through his revealed Word in the Bible.

In any of these cases, my soul is touched anew, and thus nourished and consoled, by the truth of who God is for me, and who I am for him â€" a truth which God speaks to my soul. But the distinction between God’s speaking and my own ideas is not so clear as we would sometimes like. He actually speaks through the ideas that come as I turn my attention towards him in prayer. He speaks within my heart, within the words that form in my heart as I gaze at the Word.

Parameters of Faith

When we pray, God speaks to us in three ways. But to understand these three ways, we need a reminder. Our relationship with God is based on faith. Faith gives us access to knowledge that goes beyond what we can perceive by our senses. By faith, for example, we know that Christ is truly present in the Eucharist, even though our senses only perceive the appearances of bread and wine. Whenever a Christian prays, the prayer takes place within this atmosphere of faith. When I address God in vocal prayer, I know that he is listening to me, even if I don’t feel his presence with my senses or emotions. When I praise him, ask things of him, adore him, thank him, tell him I am sorry… In all these expressions of prayer, I know by faith (not necessarily by my senses or my feelings) that God is listening, interested, and that he cares. If we try to understand Christian prayer outside of this atmosphere of faith, we will get nowhere.

Keeping that in mind, we can look briefly at the three ways God speaks to us in prayer.

Q: Dear Father John, I keep hearing (and reading) that Christian prayer is a conversation with God. But, to be totally honest, when I pray I don’t really hear God speaking to me. At least, how do I know it’s God and not just my own thoughts? Am I doing something wrong?

A: You are right: the phrase “conversation with God” describes Christian prayer beautifully. Christ has revealed that God is a real person, and that he is interested â€" passionately interested â€" in our lives, our friendship, our closeness. For Christians then, prayer, as Pope Benedict explained when he visited Yonkers, NY in 2007, is an expression of our “personal relationship with God.” And that relationship, the Holy Father went on to say, “is what matters most.”

Pasko na jud. Kabati na ko ug mga Christmas carols. Wa koy laing mahatag nimo kundili ang ahong mga kasakit ug kalipay. Tanang kaguol ug katawa. Tanang problema ug tanang blessings Lord. To you alone I offer them all. This Christmas, I will not ask you for something that would be for myself. I am humbly prostrating before you to please give our father the best of health.

Thank you Lord ug advance happy birthday.

P.S. Ako siguroy kinaunhan mipaabot nimo sa ahong greetings. :D

I am so touched by your heartfelt prayer, Brother Vince. I join my morning prayer with yours and include your Father's health and recovery. There is indescribable joy in knowing that the Lord our God listens and hears all our prayers, be they given in joy or in tears. One thing that we, as believers of the promises of Our Lord Jesus Christ, must remember is that all things happen to us as a means to teach and sharpen our faith and understanding , and dependence on the Lord. The Lord will provide for all our needs, be they physical nourishment and spiritual nourishment that is for the good of our soul.

For you, I ask and pray that Our Lord Jesus Christ pours abundant blessings from Heaven. And for your Father, I ask that the Lord restore his portion of health and strengthens his faith in God to whatever end.

May God Bless you, my dear friend.

A Prayer for Healing

Lord, You invite all who are burdened to come to you. Allow Your healing Hand to heal me. Touch my soul with Your compassion for others; touch my heart with Your courage and infinite Love for all; touch my mind with Your Wisdom, and may my mouth always proclaim Your praise. Teach me to reach out to You in all my needs, and help me to lead others to You by my example.

Most loving Heart of Jesus, bring me health in body and spirit that I may serve You with all my strength. Touch gently this life which you have created, now and forever.
Amen.

Lord of Day and Night
Of beginnings and endings
As we prepare to conclude this meeting,
We once again lift up our hearts to You,
The Divine Source of All Life.
We thank you for the gifts that have been present
Within this act of service to the community.
For the gifts of fellowship and understanding,
Of mutual respect and shared vision,
We are grateful
For the gifts of perserverance
And insight into the common concerns we share,
For these and all other graces, we are thankful.
As You have blessed our coming together,
Now bless our departure and journeys homeward.
May Your blessing be upon us,
In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Ganina , a nurse gave an asthmatic patient albuterol. Pero na ahak! Ning taas ang HR sa patiente, nag hypertensive crisis man hinuon. Then I look at the chart, this particular patient had a history of tachyarrhythmia. Gi korektahan nako, the patient should not have been given albuterol kai it has a B1 stimulatory effect (mo taas ang heart rate), but we changed his meds to LEVALBUTEROL, kai it has bronchodilatory effect and no B1 stimulatory effect.

Luckily we caught this. This is a very important reason why nurses should have to READ patient histories as well prior to giving asthma meds!

Gi awayan awayan pa baja ko ganina when i tried to correct her.

assuring her friends that she's in a better place now.  how thoughtful of her.

i remember the last time i saw arlene at Swedish Hospital. I had visited her with my friend Elenita and Mrs. Enriquez after attending the Feast Day of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. I had attended that Feast Day to pray for Arlene and deliverance for her in her moment of pain.

when we drove to Swedish Memorial Hospital, we found her in room 214. She was sharing a room with another person. When my eyes made contact with her, the first thing i noticed was that she was on a respirator, she had been battling respiratory pneumonitis, secondary to her lung cancer, which had caused her very low O2 levels.

I could see that she had problem / difficulty breathing. but she , being the arlene that she was, was too quick to talk to me and elenita and mrs. enriquez. I squeezed her hands tightly, and clasped my other hand on her little hand. Arlene said to me, in her very motherly voice, "Oh Dokkk...you came to see me?"

I smiled deeply. Tried not to cry. I squeezed her hands very tightly. And smiled some more while looking at her eyes.

Arlene was a strong woman, such a strong woman. In her final moments, she never was on any pain medication. Not even when she went into coma.

That short little lady (she was 4'11) was stronger than even the biggest men i've known. She passed away softly and peacefully the afternoon of July 29. Surrounded by her doting and loving husband Ray, and her son Francis.

I know her soul willy fly quickly to heaven. She was a very good , loving and God fearing woman.

i don't know what fr chic will say about this.  i'm sane, lorenz.  never more so than now, hehe.

interesting.

i admit, i regularly ask the intercession of Saints Michael, Gabriel, Raphael and my own Guardian Angel to help me during my daily pursuits. Especially for strength during moments of weakness and when temptation arises.

and it reminded me that her 40 days won't be till the end of the 1st week of september (september 7).

she told me that when she saw arlene, arlene was smiling kono. arlene passed away of lung cancer and was in pain up to the moment of her death.

either way, i'm happy that she's no longer in pain. and i know that her stay in purgatory will be short. she was a good woman and a devotee of the sacred heart of Jesus.

I did ask Rachel one time if these spirits actively talk to her or approach her. She did say that she actively tries to ignore them because once they see that you see them, they will follow her kono.

On a side note, another mystic who was gifted with the power of the 6th sense was Blessed Padre Pio, who could not only see angels , but also even demons.

Are there hierarchies of angels? What’s the difference among cherubs, angels, archangels, thrones and powers that the Bible mentions?

Although we are taught that there are ranks of angels, I have learned that these ranks are merely “job descriptions.”

Angels, in my experience, are all of one level but with different functions such as archangels, thrones, seraphims. Each has a specific function to fulfill in the universe, but they are equal. They’re more democratic than we are.

What is the reaction of people when they learn that you can see and talk to angels?

Always, the persons who ask to see me in consultation are excited, curious and generally positive. Since I don’t go around advertising myself, I don’t encounter people who are skeptical or who object violently. There seems to be a lot of people out there who genuinely want to communicate with their angels for spiritual purposes.

he he he, interesting. if he can communicate to angels, can he also communicate to Divine Providence as well ?

Saving Panglao island and its tourists from the risks of rabies gets complicated as authorities plan to implement an island wide rabies mass neutering and spaying of dogs.

Dr. Stella Marie Lapiz said this is to control a burgeoning dog population and isolate identified stray dogs with the authorities have noted living in some uninhabited areas of the island.

Set to be implemented with a private and public partnership with non-government organization called Humane Society International, the move is also in relation to an alarming increase in dog bites recorded in Panglao Island alone.

On the activity, authorities would conduct house to house dog neutering and spaying, (except for dogs nurtured for breeding purposes) which will render dogs incapable of reproduction.

It would be good if they had the same program being initiated throughout all the municipalities in the province of Bohol.

Salute to the Veterinarians in Bohol ! Keep up the good work.

Its quite silly how the heart is so darn sensitive. When one allows another person to come inside your heart, to see you through the positives, the negatives, to know the very essence of you, the very nature of your entire soul, this sense of being naked to another person is doubly beautiful and dangerous. What do I mean? Its beautiful because one is totally understood for what one believes in, what one fears, what one finds joy in, to know one's hopes and dreams etc. Its also dangerous because to open oneself in such away allows one to be undoubtedly and precariously fragile to that said person.

I can cope with stressful situations at work where in involves a patient's life or death, can hold my own (well i like to think!) on 24-36 hour on calls, can even lecture to 30+ nursing students for 4 hours on the anatomic-physiologic and pathological importance of the cardiovascular system, can present seminars on health systems protocol to board members and present cases to the state board of health, but one thing that I am having difficulty is getting over one woman.

The woman who I have loved for the past 4 years, the one woman who I thought I would marry and have children with. This break up has been exceptionally hard for me. Tho I look tough and strong, but deep beneath the veneer of my professionalism at work, and my smile, is the hurt that aches my very soul. This separation from this woman who I have loved with all the love i could give. The woman whom I have given all that i could give.

This sense of loss , have to bear and to find a way to cope with. I focus my energy more on work and more on study. But thoughts of her arises when i least expect, like a festering wound whose caseaous covering that has been removed.

My Lord My God, please, take away this feeling from me. My Lord Jesus Christ, take this pain that affects my heart so, please take it all away. Strengthen me , My Lord Jesus, please strengthen me to focus on Medicine and my Doctoral Program. And not on thoughts of my former love. I beg this in your name.

Amen.

Title: Genetic Testing in the Workplace
Author: Albrando Lorenzo Lucino Jr, Ph.D-C

In 2008, then-President George W. Bush signed into law the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act. This law was enacted as a measure to prevent health insurance organizations to use patients’ genetic background and genetic information as the basis for decision making in either the approval or disapproval of patient health coverage. The law specifically provides protection from health organizations, particularly health insurance providers from denying coverage for Americans who are otherwise healthy, but may have a family history of certain health risks such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, certain types of cancers, cardiac deficits and even endocrinal disorders (Berks, 2008; Varner, 2011). The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act also makes special clauses that protect applicants and employees from decisions that employers make based on an employee’s genetic background and testing results (Varner, 2011).

Prior to the 2008 Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act that was signed into law by President George W. Bush, there were laws that addressed the issues of genetic information being used in an unprofessional and unethical manner by employers as well as health insurance agencies. Some of these laws included the 1995 Genetic Privacy and Nondiscrimination Act, the 1996 Genetic Fairness Act, the 1995 Genetic Information Nondiscrimination in Health Insurance Act and the 1996 Genetic Confidentiality and Nondiscrimination Act (Brandt-Rauf, Brandt-Rauf, Gershon, Yongliang and Brandt-Rauf, 2011). The reasons why these laws and regulations were passed was due to a historical precedent where in which employers utilized health information to shape their decisions in hiring and firing workers. In an article written by Brand-Rauf et al (2011), the implementation of new genetic testing at work may better the health and safety of workers, but may also raise some potent social , legal and ethical issues that may affect not only employees but also the employers. Brandt-Rauf et al (2011) also mentioned that prejudice against individuals with certain health risks has been documented early in the 20th century. There was a geneticist by the name of J.B.S Haldane, who in 1938, concocted an idea to bar individuals who had congenital predisposition to potters’ bronchitis from entering the pottery industry. By doing so, this would prevent cases of individuals developing potters’ bronchitis and thus prevent the necessity of giving severance pay for workers who developed such a terminal disease. It should be noted that during the 1950s when technology was developed to analyze enzymatic genetic variants to test for hemolytic reaction in screen for particular diseases was it being used in the work place. As  a result of this, individuals with health disorders in the testing or showed a family history were being rejected from positions whilst those with no history were chosen (Brandt-Rauf et al, 2011). This is why it is important to understand why these laws were enacted, as a means to protect workers and also to protect employers from committing abuses.

Genetic testing and its prevalence in the work place has been an issue of concern. The past several years have observed many attempts to seen the scope and depth of genetics being used in industry (Andrews and Zuiker, 2003). In a survey that was conducted in 1982 by the Congressional Office of Technological Assessment, out of the 366 companies that responded to a survey, only 5% of them admitted to using genetic testing as the basis to identify susceptibility of employees as well as using said information for hiring or firing of said employees. Since then, however, there has been a rapid increase in the prevalence of genetic testing in work places. There was a survey that was conducted in 199 and about 1,054 companies responded, of which about 16.7% of them admitted to using genetic testing procedures to shape their decisions on employee retention and layoffs (Brandt-Rauf et al, 2011). One can observe that these surveys function as a window to the greater body that is the American industry and the millions of Americans who are employed by said companies. The passing of the 2008 Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act answers these issues by making it illegal for employers to use genetic testing results on employees for key decision making.

One has to understand the psychological effects of the use of genetic testing results and revealing this not only to aforementioned operational managers within that said organization, but also to the employee being tested. This was addressed in an article written by Andersson, Juth, Petersen, Graff and Edberg (2013), which aimed to describe the many experiences that employees have during presymptomatic gene testing for the nefarious genetic disease known as Huntington ’s disease. Huntington’s disease, otherwise known as Huntington’s chorea,  is a neurodegenerative disorder with onset usually taking course in the third of fourth decade of life. This disease is characterized by chorea and dementia; pathologically, there is bilateral marked atrophy of the putamen and the head of the caudate nuclease. Autosomal dominant inheritance with complete penetrance, caused by mutation associated with trinucleotide repeat expansion in the Huntington gene, which is located on chromosome 4p (Petersen et al, 2013). The results of the study showed that there was a fusion of ethical and medical aspects in undergoing genetic testing for Huntington’s disease for employees.

Genetic testing and the revelation of results gave rise to anxiety for employees, particularly significant feelings of despair and loss of hope. Despite the planning benefits of presymptomatic testing, employers have to understand the psychological and ethical effects of taking genetic testing and revealing said testing to employees. One also has to understand the effects such revelation has on employers (Huys, Berthels, Matthijs and Overwalle, 2009). Upon knowing that a loyal worker has been diagnosed positive for Huntington’s disease , and knowing the neurodegenerative effects this disease will have on the employee, this would necessitate the company’s decision to layoff said employee or enact policy that might induce the employee to resign, particularly decrease said employee’s hours (Petersen et al, 2013).

Employees are selected through a selective process, many having to go through batteries, which roots out those who are less credible for those who have certain characteristics that might work within a working environment. As a human resource specialist, one has to take into consideration the concept of base rate, which reflects the percentage of current employees who are successful on the job. In part, this percentage reflects the quality of the previous selection battery and provides a baseline against which the new selection battery can be compared (Levy, 2013). Fortunately for us we have , through the auspices of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, the Principles for the Validation and Use of Personnel Selection Procedures. This guide serves as a technical guide for those who work in the field of employee selection, with the caveat that the principles were not intended to be perceived as legal guidelines (Levy, 2013). As such, one has to understand that one cannot use genetic testing as a means to select candidates because that is a violation of ethical policy, as well as is contrary to proper hiring and selection protocol as mentioned by Levy (2013).

It will be evident that, as mentioned earlier in this paper, that ethical considerations will be manifested in the analysis of genetic testing in the workplace. In the attempt of the conception of certain health professionals in regards to the use of genetic testing, Powell-Young and Spruill (2013) noted that African-American nurses voiced concerns that there would be a possibility of discriminative genetic information use  and that the minority participation of said genetic testing should be endorsed so as to provide a greater understanding of differences in health disease manifestation and predisposition. The relevance of the clinical research shows that genetic testing will provide heightened opportunity to better the delivery of health care for disadvantaged minority groups; at the same time the opinion of African-American nurses believe that information could be used by health organizations to focus health care on certain groups of people that don’t have a high proclivity for health disorders, particularly cardiac deficits (Powell-Young and Spruill, 2013). This is interesting to note because African-American populations have a high risk for diabetes mellitus, hypertension and cardiac-related pathologies such as myocardial infaction and congestive heart failure as compared to other ethnic groups (Berk, 2008).

Any health information that is gained through genetic testing should be confidential and should not be used to layoff an individual. On contrary, health information gathered through genetic testing should be utilized to provide much needed internal  health specialists to be made readily available for employees should they need health counseling. In addition, as a health specialist working in the human resources department of a large hospital setting, I would be compelled to encourage the employer to provide medical leave for the employee to deal with this medical problem. President Clinton promulgated the Family and Medical Leave Act back in 1993 (Levy, 2013). This law allowed eligible employees to take job-protected, unpaid leave for up to 12 weeks owing to family-related issues such as birth of a child, the serious health condition of a family member, or one’s own serious health condition. These health conditions include illness, injury, impairment, or physical and mental conditions (Levy, 2013). By doing this, we foster a work environment that invests on the employees. By doing this, we increase confidence on the employees that the organization cares for them, and thus by doing so can increase worker to worker interoperability, satisfaction and efficiency.

Hi fellows,

I need all your help, and that help can be manifested through points of view, recommendations in regards to rough draft proceedings. I'm currently finishing up my 1st year of the Ph.D program, which is being completed in conjunction while I am working on Medicine.

So what does this mean, and what am I asking of you?

I'm asking that if any of you (should you wish to, of course) would be kind enough to read over some papers and point to me some recommendations to fix run ons, syntax formation, and even minor mistakes such as grammatical errors. I welcome and endorse all kinds. For those that wish to help, of course.

I'm starting my 2nd academic year of my Ph.D program this October 2013. The program will be about 4 years long (depending on the speed and successful turnout of my doctoral dissertation).

So yes, I'm going to keep this thread as my paper editing thread. Much advanced thanks for those who will help me in this process.

Thank You.
I am fondly yours,
Albrando Lorenzo Salvo Lucino Jr.

You're right about the crime in this city, Mike. Its actually considered the most dangerous city to live in as last reported. The hospital where I do my rotations in, which is part of the Rush University Medical System, is located in the south side of the City. Most of the patients admitted are usually trauma patients, high amounts of gun shot patients, or stab wound patients. The gang activity in the city is rampant, Mike.

I always pray every day when going to work that the Lord Jesus Christ protects me in my trip to work and from work.

Dearest,

Why should I let a woman influence my feelings? What is this woman that she should rule my feelings, my attention? I shall not. I write this in testament of my Will to get over this woman who was the center of my heart and recipient of my affections for the past 4 years. You no longer have a place in my heart. I banish the very thought of you and foolish reminiscence of you for it has no worth any more nor does it benefit me to think of you.

Our break up was for the best, now I see this.

So, from now on, my goal and my energy shall be invested on more productive measures such as in the pursuit of contributions to the field of Medicine and to my patients. I want to be the Best Doctor that I can be and to provide the Best Medical Care that I can give. I trust in the preserving nature of Almighty Providence to this end. My passion now will be to academic and professional excellence and not on some silly little notion of love and romance. The latter shall be put on hold for the time being.

I remain always,
A. Lorenzo L.

This Sunday, Georgi and I went to Ikea to shop for a new bed and new materials. Georgi is a an old college friend and recently moved to Chicago to start (this Fall 2013) in the University of Chicago's School of Business for his M.B.A. It was good to hang out with Georgi , and talking about our 5 year plans. We're both starting fresh. Was able to tell him of my recent break up with my ex-gf, and he also told me that he broke up with his gf as well prior to moving to Chicago.

At age 28, I reminded him that we're still young and priority now is not on women. No offense to women, but prioritize one's professional goals first. And that's the truth. I can tell that he's still hurting over their break up, I understand how that felt...very well.

I told him, "When you finish your M.B.A, when doors open up for you, you shall find a woman that will complement you, not one who will complicate your life."

It was good to hear his advice to me about moving forward , this makes it worth the while especially when it comes from an old college buddy.

Its amazing how much we've both grown since we were still freshmen in college. We reminisced about how it was 9 years ago when we started freshman in college. Now we're late 20s professionals.

Time. It passes so darn fast. ::)

This week, I got my Mitsubishi Montero Sport from the mechanic shop after some necessary installation and upgrades were met. I had grill guards set in place in the front, a rear hitch for the back and the rear bumper guard installed as well. I also installed new fog lights. This will be handy when I go off-roading with my baby. Yes, this is necessary for City Living since the Chicagoans here love to park close to people and sometimes, just sometimes, like to hit other people's bumpers.

Preventative and protective.... 8)

In other news, its calming to know that there are those who wish to resolve this situation through prayer:

Pope asks other faiths to join day of prayer for peace in Syria

(Reuters) - Pope Francis on Sunday invited people of all faiths to join him and the world's Catholics in a day of prayer and fasting on September 7 to end the conflict in Syria.

Addressing tens of thousands of people in St. Peter's Square, he issued a long, impassioned appeal for peace in Syria and across the Middle East, saying God and history would be the judge of those who promoted violence or prevented peace.

Francis condemned the use of chemical weapons, blamed by Western powers on Syrian government forces, but added: "War, never again".

The United States and France are considering military action against Damascus in response to the chemical attack but Francis urged the international community to make every effort to bring about peace based on "dialogue and negotiations".

"Violence never leads to peace, war leads to war, violence leads to violence," he said.

The pope asked the 1.2 billion Roman Catholics around the world to pray for peace in Syria and observe a day of prayer and fasting on Saturday.

Francis announced his initiative a day after a meeting of top Vatican officials on Syria. He said he would lead a special prayer service in St. Peter's Square on Saturday between 7 p.m. and midnight (1800-2300 GMT).

The pope invited other Christians, members of other religions and all "people of goodwill" to join the Catholic initiative in any way they saw fit.

The peace initiative is reminiscent of several made by the late Pope John Paul, including one in which he dispatched envoys to Iraq, the United States and European capitals in 2003 to try to avert war in Iraq.

I was reading CNN and an article said that the Iranians threaten to strike Israel if the United States strikes Syria.

If Iran strikes Israel, there is no way Israel will sit back and take that without responding in full force.

I wonder what Russia and China's response will be.

It is better to yield to the views of others than to try to force them to follow our desires and opinions. The human mind is a mirror that reflects all the colors that are presented to it; do not imitate the chameleon, that takes on all colors except white. Oh yes, condescension not accompanied by candidness is very dangerous and cannot be shunned sufficiently.

Exceptional song !

One of my favorite songs to listen to prior to beginning a task. 8)

This song was the second national anthem of Japan during WWâ...¡.
The Japanese recognized it as the quasi-anthem until the end of the war in the pacific.

The music was composed by Kiyoshi Nobutoki in 1937.
The military authorities made him compose it for increasing the Japanese people's fighting spirit, though he was Christian and pacifist that got higher education of classical music.

The words were quoted a few verses from Otomo no Yakamochi's long poem in Japanese style.
The long poem was written around AD 750 and collected by himself in "Manyoshu(The Ten Thousand Leaves)".
He was not only poet but politician.
Otomo family was the Emperor's imperial guards from generation to generation.
This words were just his family motto.

Umi Yukaba had been singing in Japan before WWâ...¡ came to an end.
After the war the Japanese people have renounced war forever, and so this song have not virtually been allowed to be used on the TV or radio.

The Japanese have put the lid on the fine requiem.....

Perhaps the most famous military song, Senyu, "Comrade in arms" or "War Comrade", was written after the Russo-Japanese war.

During WWII, although prohibited, it was very popular for veteran soldiers and tolerated by superiors officers.
