if it's a 1996 model, more or less, cost of maintenance and repair would amount to a new car.

Health and Food / Honey Can Cure Wounds
May 20, 2012, 07:28:18 AM
Many cures used in ancient times really do work. One was to put honey on wounds and then dress them with willow bark. Honey is an antiseptic, which stops the wound going bad and willow contains the same painkiller that’s in aspirin. Genius! - Anne Rooney

Love Talk / Example on Being a Gentleman
May 19, 2012, 07:59:25 PM
"if a lady farts with a clap of thunder in a crowded public place and stinks up the whole room.... you as a gentleman, must turn around and loudly say: Oh, I'm sorry, madam, excuse me.... It must be something I ate when I was feeding in the graveyard...."

She'll be SO, SO grateful to you...

Health and Food / Healing Benefits of Water
May 19, 2012, 05:00:07 AM
forwarded email:

DRINK WATER ON EMPTY STOMACH
It is popular in Japan today to drink water immediately after waking up every morning. Furthermore, scientific tests have proven its value. We publish below a description of use of water for our readers. For old and serious diseases as well as modern illnesses the water treatment had been found successful by a Japanese medical society as a 100% cure for the following diseases:
Headache, body ache, heart system, arthritis, fast heart beat, epilepsy, excess fatness, bronchitis asthma, TB, meningitis, kidney and urine diseases, vomiting, gastritis, diarrhea, piles, diabetes, constipation, all eye diseases, womb, cancer and menstrual disorders, ear nose and throat diseases.
METHOD OF TREATMENT
1. As you wake up in the morning before brushing teeth, drink 4 x 160ml glasses of water
2. Brush and clean the mouth but do not eat or drink anything for 45 minute
3.. After 45 minutes you may eat and drink as normal.
4. After 15 minutes of breakfast, lunch and dinner do not eat or drink anything for 2 hours
5. Those who are old or sick and are unable to drink 4 glasses of water at the beginning may commence by taking little water and gradually increase it to 4 glasses per day.
6. The above method of treatment will cure diseases of the sick and others can enjoy a healthy life.
The following list gives the number of days of treatment required to cure/control/reduce main diseases:
1. High Blood Pressure (30 days)
2. Gastric (10 days)
3. Diabetes (30 days)
4. Constipation (10 days)
5. Cancer (180 days)
6. TB (90 days)
7. Arthritis patients should follow the above treatment only for 3 days in the 1st week, and from 2nd week onwards â€" daily..
This treatment method has no side effects, however at the commencement of treatment you may have to urinate a few times.
It is better if we continue this and make this procedure as a routine work in our life. Drink Water and Stay healthy and Active.
This makes sense .. The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals ..not cold water. Maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating!!! Nothing to lose, everything to gain...
For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you.
It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion.
Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine.
Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.
A serious note about heart attacks:
· Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting,
· Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.
· You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack.
· Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms.
· 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up.
· Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive...

General Topic / What is Bugsay Philosophy?
May 18, 2012, 07:23:26 PM
press release
Bugsay philosophy inspires foundation leaders

Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc.’s (RAFI) president Roberto “Bobby” Aboitiz presented the Bugsay philosophy during the Association of Foundations (AF) general assembly held last April 18-20 at El Salvador Beach Resort, Danao City, Cebu.

Aboitiz was the keynote speaker for the event, which gathered leaders from AF-affiliated
foundations nationwide. AF also celebrated its 40th anniversary during the assembly.

“His speech is a reminder to us leaders of our responsibility to affect change amidst
apathy and indifference,” Dominica Chua, RAFI chief operating officer, said.

In his speech, Aboitiz shared his own guiding principle, which he calls Bugsay
philosophy.

"Bugsay" is the Visayan word for paddle or oar. In the Bugsay philosophy, every one is
a paddle and it is the choice of each person whether to pick up his paddle and paddle forward through working on one’s potentials and taking opportunities, or remain motionless or move in circles without any focus or direction.

Aboitiz emphasized the crucial role of a sense of accountability on one’s own choices
and determination in making it through life’s challenges.

“The Bugsay philosophy tells us that a person should take charge of his life, not solely
depending on what others can do for him,” Chua said.

Aboitiz imparted the value of character, competence, and citizenship in leadership.
While being equipped with skills it is equally important to have the right attitude in carrying one’s duties and responsibilities the end goal of which is serving the greater number, especially the less privileged.

Aboitiz believes that true service is helping others help themselves, that real progress
can be attained through collaborative efforts.

The Jesuit-educated RAFI president stands as a testament of a service-oriented
leadership as he called on other foundation leaders to strive to do more and deliver better services to their respective organizations and communities.

“He encouraged us to constantly check on our motivation for doing things for it is that
which sustains us in our work. It must be clear that we serve not to gain credit for ourselves, but for others to live better lives,” Chua said.

“Many of the participants asked him how he started and how he sustained the works of
the foundation. His answers focused on working together in service,” she added.

RAFI has been a member of AF for 36 years and continues to be an “architect of
change,” with the support of partner agencies and organizations.  From a purely philanthropic institution founded by the late Don Ramon Aboitiz, RAFI has evolved into a non-government organization dedicated to social development with focus areas on Integrated Development, Micro-finance & Entrepreneurship, Culture & Heritage, Leadership & Citizenship, and Education.

May 18, 2012, 06:12:42 PM
company profile:

The idea started in San Diego, California in 2001 amongst two friends from South Africa, Mike and Travis. With a long history in skateboarding, surfing, art, music and street culture the guys wanted to create clothing they couldn't find anywhere else. IRON FIST clothing and footwear are wholly known for their phenomenal artwork, and unique designs; it is impulsive, raw and unapologetic. You will find outbursts of obnoxious color mixed with raw and dirty inspired street art, designed by a barrage of some of the world's best underground and street artists.

Website Review / About Ecko Unltd
May 18, 2012, 06:10:38 PM

Philippine Provinces / Ice Marbles Hit Cebu
May 18, 2012, 02:30:12 PM
By SunStar Cebu

Some 86 houses were destroyed, trees fell and residents were hurt after whirling winds and ice-like particles, slightly bigger than marbles, hit Barangays Lamac and Punod, Pinamungajan town, midwest of Cebu Province yesterday noon.

One woman was rushed to a hospital in Cebu City after she was pinned to the ground by a fallen tree.

Barangays Lamac and Punod are about 14 kilometers from the poblacion of the town in Cebu’s third district.

Rep. Pablo John Garcia (Cebu, 3rd district), who sent staff members to the area, said that based on the report he received, the two barangays were hit by a “buhawi” or whirlwind and hail stones.

He instructed his staff to assess the damage and see how his office could help.
In a phone interview, Pinamungajan Mayor Geraldine Yapha told Sun.Star Cebu that the disturbance hit the houses alternately, damaging the structures.

Yapha said that while the ice-like drops and the strong winds would hit a house and damage it, these would leave the next house intact.

Yapha said that it was very hot and sunny yesterday morning, but at 11:30 a.m. dark clouds mantled the sky.

She quoted residents who saw that thunder struck and a series of lighting bolted the sky.

These were followed by strong winds, and ice-like particles fell from the sky.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the hailstorm in Pinamungahan did not register on their radar.

Domestic airline passengers lining up to pay the terminal fee at the country’s airports will soon be a thing of the past. The Department of Transportation and Communications and the Manila International Airport Authority formalized an agreement with major airline companies to integrate the fees into the total cost of airline tickets.

A memorandum of agreement was signed by DOTC/MIAA with major carriers in a signing ceremony today at NAIA Terminal 3. In attendance were Secretary of Transportation and Communications Mar Roxas and top officials of airline companies.

The government was represented by Jose Angel Honrado, general manager of MIAA, while the airline companies were led by their top executives:
Inigo Zobel, president and CEO of Air Philippines;
Lance Gokongwei, president and CEO of Cebu Air, Inc;
Ramon Ang, president and COO of PAL;
Avelino Zapanta, president and CEO of Seair Inc.;
Ramon Guico III, president and CEO Sky Pasada; and
Alfredo M. Yao, president and CEO of Zest Air.

The new system for domestic flights takes effect starting August 1, 2012.
The integration of terminal fee into the airline tickets had been previously rejected by carriers due to the perceived complexity of sorting out the amount due to the number of exemptions granted by the government to different passenger groups.

This is expected to save time and add convenience to 70 percent of domestic passengers who are not entitled to any exemptions. Only exempted passengers such as athletes, overseas workers, senior citizens, and babies under two-years old, will line up at designated claim booths for refunds.

Currently, passengers have to complete four procedures before boarding their flights: (1) the initial screening upon entering the terminal; (2) check-in counter to get their boarding pass; (3) payment of terminal fee; (4) and the final security screening. The new system enables all departing domestic passengers to skip one line before they board the plane. They no longer need to queue and pay terminal fees in all domestic airports in the country.

“This is just one part of the whole program we are implementing to smooth and speed up the ground operations of our airports, and ensure the convenience of air passengers,” Roxas said.

The transition time to fully implement the new system is expected to last until middle of next year as there will still be a terminal fee collection booth for those who have already bought their tickets without terminal fee. Before the end of the year, terminal fees for international flights will also be incorporated in the plane ticket.

Meanwhile, the DOTC earlier unveiled several short- and long-term measures to solve the problem of runway congestion at NAIA.

To address the issue and to support local airline companies’ expansion program, Roxas said the government will continue to enhance the infrastructure of the country’s major airports. From just an airline fleet population of 62 five years ago, the airline industry’s total fleet number has almost doubled to 119 today.

As part of this effort, the government has allocated P800M to night-rate 14 additional airports in Tagbilaran, Legazpi, Dumaguete, Butuan, Ozamis, Cotabato, Naga, Dipolog, Roxas, Pagadian, Tuguegarao, Busuanga, Surigao and San Jose, Mindoro.

The rehabilitation of NAIA Terminal 1 is also in progress. “The structural work, together with the mechanical-electrical-plumbing and fire-protection (MEPF) work at NAIA T1will be completed next year,” he said.

NAIA Terminal 3 will be in full operation early next year once the 23 airport systems, including baggage handling system and closed-circuit televisions that will cover all areas of the terminal, are delivered by Takenaka Corp.

Have a sweet tooth? May be it is better to resist.

For the first time, a study by scientists at University of California, Los Angeles(UCLA) has shown that a diet rich in fructose causes the brain to slow down, hampers memory and learning. Scientists, however, say that intake of omega-3 fatty acids can counter the effects.

The study has been published on the renowned Journal of Physiology. The experiment, conducted on rats, showed that over a long time, a fructose-rich diet takes a toll on the brain, making it difficult for the person to learn and retain memories. The scientists, however, warn that the fructose coming from fruits are not harmful~ naturally occurring fructose contain important antioxidants and are necessary for the body.

However, artificial sweeteners, like corn syrup, can be very harmful. Corn syrup contains a high amount of fructose, and the syrup is a cheap compound used in most processed foods, soft drinks, applesauce and even baby foods. Ditto for artificial preservatives, which are high on fructose.

The experiment had two groups of rats being fed fructose syrup for a long period of time, with one group also given omega-3 fatty acids in form of flaxseed oil. Omega-3 fatty acids protect the chemical connections between brain cells that facilitate learning and memory. Six weeks later, rats who were not given Omega-3 fatty acids were having difficulty navigating mazes.

The study concluded that eating too much fructose could block insulin's ability to regulate how cells use and store sugar for the energy required for processing thoughts and emotions. Insulin’s main function is to control blood sugar, but this is the first time that it has been indicated that insulin has an effect on how the brain works.

A FRENCHMAN who lost his limbs in an electrical accident swam from Papua New Guinea to Indonesia in strong winds and currents today, finishing the first stretch in a mission to swim between five continents.

Philippe Croizon, 43, who swam the English Channel in 2010, left Papua New Guinea's fishing village of Wutung in the early morning to begin what he has billed as the Oceania-Asia stretch of his challenge.

After swimming 20km over almost eight hours, he arrived at 1pm local time (2pm AEST) in the village of Pasar Skow in Indonesia's Papua province, which shares a border with Papua New Guinea.

"It was very, very hard," Croizon told AFP trying to catch his breath on the grey and black beach lined with coconut trees in Pasar Skow.
