Original Title: Her friends warn that without sex, her husband will fool around
by Emily Marcelo
Inquirer.net

DEAR EMILY,

My husband and I are both in our early 60s. We’ve been married almost 40 years now and have three professional and married children who have all left the nest.

I think we are happily marriedâ€"even without sex anymore. Though he has diabetes, he has maintained his youthful good looks. Unlike me. Although I am quite healthy and don’t take maintenance medicines, I have grown overweight over the years. He seems not to care and has remained very thoughtful and honest, and I am blessed having him.

My problem is my friends who are constantly telling me that without sex, my husband would be prone to fooling around, if he isn’t already. Despite their gossiping about my marriage, I tend to believe my husband because he hasn’t given me any reason to suspect him, except that we haven’t had sex in ages. It doesn’t bother me and it doesn’t bother him either, I think. We have separate bedrooms because he snores like a train. Sleeping separately has solved the noise problem once and for all.

I know where every penny of his salary goes, I know his password in his e-mail address, his cell phone is always lying around in the open, he allows me to meet him a few times a week in his office for our dinner after workâ€"how can I worry about him philandering?  Do my friends know something I don’t?

Emily's Answer:
WONDERING WIFE

If it ain’t broke, why fix it! Who are these bunch of unhappy women you’re friends with? Is their analysis or suspicion of your marriage a reflection of the trouble they’re having with their own husbands?  Have you been bragging about your blissful marital status that’s making them gang up on you?

That you and your husband already enjoyed a fulfilling romp in bed in your younger daysâ€"which is probably more than they’ve ever hadâ€"is no reason at all for alarm between you two. The fact that you’re having a wonderful weekly routine with him speaks volumes of your healthy relationship.

Stop being shaken or stirred by the empty gossip from your so-called friends. Let them discuss their lives and problems till they grow feathers, but steer the conversation away when they shift the focus on you.  Just enjoy the food during your lunch with them and block out the chatter.  Or, if their company has become a pain, feign a headache, or do your errands instead, or tell it to their faces that you don’t want to be part of that group anymore.

Avoid their gloom and doom.  Life is too short to bear meddlers who don’t contribute inspiration or hope or joy to your day.

UBAY â€" A 40-year old rice trader was shot dead by still unidentified assailants Tuesday noon in barangay Gabi, Ubay town, while the victim’s driver is hospitalized after sustaining two gunshot wounds.

The fatality, identified as Bonifacio Bayron, 40, a resident of barangay Corazon, San Miguel town, was on his way home aboard a motorcycle driven by one Joselito Dinulan, 25, when two unidentified men, riding in tandem aboard another motorcycle, accosted them along the provincial road in barangay Gabi.

The backrider, not wearing anything to mask his face, was the one who fired upon the victims, hitting Bayron twice on the lower torso. Two bullets exited Bayron’s body and wounded Dinulan on his left leg.

The victims crashed on the pavement after being hit with the gunshots, but Dinulan who was only wounded on the left leg, was able to run away from the assailants.

In an interview with dyRD Balita, Dinulan said he was able to catch a glimpse of Bayron being robbed by the suspects.

Dinulan was able to seek help and was brought to Gov. Celestino Gallares Regional Hospital in Tagbilaran City, while Bayron was brought to the nearby San Miguel Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

According to the surviving driver, he believes the motive of the suspects was to rob Bayron, who may have been known to be buying palay that day in Ubay.

Police could not yet determine the amount of money the highway robbers took from the victim.

Suspected burglars burned down a food shop early dawn Thursday along Gallares Street this city after carrying out their heist.

Arson and police investigators said the burglars forcibly entered Gravy and Sauce Food Shop in Gallares Street and burned down the business establishment before they escaped.

The fire brought extensive damage to the shop, which also sells dressed chicken, burning most of the interior including a parked multi-cab and motorcycle.

Firefighters were called to the scene by the Tagbilaran City PNP Station who first received the fire alarm around 3:50 a.m.

Fire Officer-2 Esterlito Iroy told dyRD Balita that one of the owners, Allen Uy, estimates the damage at about P1-million.

As of this posting, the owners are still checking what the burglars carted away from the shop. No one was at the premises at the time of the incident.

Nearby business establishments, houses and apartments did not sustain any damage from the fire which was controlled by firefighters in 20 minutes.

The Tagbilaran Fire Station and City PNP are coordinating investigation for arson and the reported robbery from the store.

F/Insp. Manases Bautista, chief of the Tagbilaran Fire Station, said burglars use the modus operandi of burning down houses or business establishments after the robbery to remove traces of their crime.

Last year, Paz Pharmacy, also in Gallares Street, was burglarized and torched by the suspects before escaping.

As of Wednesday, the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) had received 11 nominations and applications for Chief Justice. Aside from Leila de Lima, among those recommended by various groups and individuals were Solicitor General Francis Jardeleza, BIR’s Kim Henares and prominent lawyer and women’s rights advocate Katrina Legarda and retired Judge Manuel Siayngco Jr.

Also nominated were former Ateneo de Manila University law school dean Cesar Villanueva, Inquirer columnist and former University of the Philippines’ College of Law dean Raul Pangalangan, former Laguna Assistant Provincial Prosecutor Marianito Sasondoncillo, lawyer Nepomuceno Aparis and Rafael Morales, a managing partner of the Sycip, Salazar, Hernandez & Gatmaitan law firm.

Both Pangalangan and Legarda had sent letters to the JBC accepting their nominations.
A certain Jocelyn Esquivel, who identified herself as a nurse, submitted an application. Almost certainly, she would be disqualified, as the Constitution stated that justices of the Supreme Court “must have been for 15 years or more, a judge of a lower court or engaged in the practice of law in the Philippines.”

Individuals seeking to serve on the Supreme Court should also have “proven competence, integrity, probity and independence.”

The five most senior justices on the Supreme Courtâ€"acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio and Associate Justices Presbitero Velasco Jr., Teresita Leonardo-de Castro, Arturo Brion and Diosdado Peraltaâ€"have been automatically nominated for Chief Justice. Marlon Ramos

A 58-year-old businessman flew to Korea from New York by plane. Except for infrequent visits to the toilet, he remained in his seat sleeping or reading. Toward the end of the long flight, he experienced mild cramplike pain in his right calf. On feeling his leg, he found it to be tender but thought nothing more about it. On reaching his destination, he was walking down the ramp from the plane, when he suddenly collapsed with severe pain in his left chest and was experiencing extreme respiratory distress. The airport physician made the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism, secondary to deep vein thrombosis of the right calf.

29. The blood clot (embolus) reached the left lung via the following blood vessels except which?
(a) The right popliteal vein
(b) The right common iliac vein
(c) The inferior vena cava
(d) The pulmonary trunk
(e) The left pulmonary vein

Basketball | NBA-PBA / Re: The Dream Team
June 14, 2012, 10:13:03 AM
from Wikipedia:

At the Olympics, opposing teams were overwhelmed by the talent of the American roster, losing by an average of 43.8 points per game.[11] The closest of the eight matches was Team USA's 117â€"85 victory in the gold medal game against Croatia.[12] Charles Barkley was the Dream Team's leading scorer during the Olympics, averaging 18.0 points per game.[13]

Fans in Barcelona greeted the Dream Team with great enthusiasm. Fans gathered outside the team's hotel, hoping to see their favorite players. "It was like Elvis and the Beatles put together," remarked Chuck Daly.[14] Opposing basketball players and athletes from other sports often asked to have photographs taken with the players.[15] Barkley noted, however, in a 2010 interview, that there was a dark side to the Dream Team's fame:
“    And what people don't understand, we got death threats. In our hotel, you had to have a picture ID to get in there, and we went to the pool on the roof of the hotel, there was like 10 guys standing around with Uzis. So it was kind of funny, it was like: Girl in bikini; dude with an Uzi; girl in bikini; guy with Uzi. People thought we didn't want to stay in the Olympic Village because we wanted to be big shots, but it was because we were getting death threats. They had told us this would be considered great by one of these terrorist groups if they could take out the Dream Team.[13]

Travel and Tours / Red Rock Canyon in Las Vegas
June 13, 2012, 03:44:56 PM
The closest concentration of classic Southwestern canyon scenery to Las Vegas lies a mere twenty miles west of the city centre. The sheer 3000ft escarpment that towers above Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is clearly visible from hotel windows along the Strip, with every fiery detail picked out each morning by the rising sun. What you can’t see until you enter the park, however, is that there’s a cactus-strewn desert basin set deep into those mighty walls, surrounded by stark red clifs that are pierced repeatedly by narrow canyons acces-sible only on foot.

Run by the Federal Bureau of Land Management, Red Rock Canyon covers almost 200,000 acres of wilderness. Like other such BLM areas, it’s less groomed for tourists than a national park or monument. Thus while it includes over thirty miles of hiking trails, they’re not as well signed or maintained as you might expect, and it’s all too easy for novice walkers to get lost.

To reach the canyon, just keep going west on Charleston Boulevard, from the extreme north of the Strip. The pink leaves of the trees lining the road perfectly complement the pink strata of rocks on the mountains straight ahead, though this vista has been somewhat marred by the construction of the Summerlin  residential and resort development at the west end of Charleston. This only opened in 1999, but has swiftly mushroomed to become a fully fledged suburb of the city. - SOURCE: Rough Guide

The Philippine football team Azkals nailed Guam team at 3-0 score in their friendly game held 7 p.m. Tuesday night at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City.

Azkals scored the first goal during the first seven-minute of the game, courtesy of Angel Guirado.

Four minutes later, the Philippines scored another goal via a right kick of Carli de Murga in the 11th minute of the play that was realized thru an assist made by James Younghusband who served as the team captain in Tuesday night's faceoff with Guam.

The home team displayed their aggressive stance at the start of the game giving no chance for the visiting team to launch offensives.

But before the first half ended, the home team scored another goal in the 46th minute of the game, courtesy of Guirado who succeeded in converting the free kick made by Dennis Cagara via a header third goal for the Azkals.

According to the game plan earlier laid by Azkals coach Hans Michael Weiss for the host team to score in the early stage of the game, putting pressure on the rival team was indeed proven effective.

During the second half, the Philippine team made several attempts for more goals only to be frustrated by Guam's strong defense.

The Panaad stadium jampacked with audience composed of avid fans, football aficionados and even foreign figures as well as local officials in the sugarlandia city and province of Negros Occidental cheered for Azkals’ good performance during the friendly match.

It was learned this was the five wins on the part of Azkals out of the six games they competed since they set foot at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City in the past several years.

Azkals players which saw action with Guam were Neil Etheridge, Rob Gier, Jason Sabio, Phil Younghusband, Dennis Cagara, Angel Guirado, James, Younghusband, Carli de Murga, Dennis Wolf, Gerry Lucena, Marwin Angeles, Misagh Bahadoran, Jason de Jong, Anto Gonzales at Jeffrey Christians.

Three Azkals players Dennis Wolf, Misagh Bahadoran and Rob Gier who were injured after a head collision with Guam players during the first half were given the yellow card.

Ilonggo and Azkals co-captain Chieffy Caligdong and Manny Ott missed the game in the showdown with the Guam after they were given the red card during their recent game with Indonesia.

The friendly game with Guam is FIFA-sanctioned that could help Azkals improve its world ranking in football.

Team Azkals’ striker Phil Younghusband earlier said they were happy to be back in Bacolod City and felt grateful for Negrenses' all-out support extended to the home team giving them strength to win the game.

Meanwhile, German coach Hanz Michael Weiss said team Azkals has improved a lot compared to earlier days prior to his stewardship, though he admitted there’s still a room to further hone up the team for future international games.

The showdown with Guam was the third friendly match of team Azkals early this month as part of its preparation for the forthcoming 2012 Suzuki Cup scheduled in November, also this year.

Early this month, Azkals battled with Malaysia to settle for a draw at 0-0 score and Indonesia on June 5 where both teams also draw at 2-all score.
