in a sense, yes.  pero wa man tingali nato dinhiy mo-copy and paste unya angkonon nga iyaha ang ideas.  we share what we read or what we know because of our readings, or because we seek affirmations of what we believe in; we do not claim them.

ideas and events are shared, not claimed, and unless one of us had come up with a eureka moment and we can claim in all honesty that it's ours, our own discovery, our own invention, that's how things will be.

if we post something about diseases, it doesn't mean that we claim to have discovered these diseases.  if sir daray posts his articles about agriculture, it doesn't mean that he had discovered those plants or the techniques of planting them.  if lorenz posts something about our faith in a divine being, it doesn't mean that he had been appointed by god to organize a new religion.

as for our handsome but less than brilliant senator, he can be accused of plagiarism for the simple reason that he failed to attribute his words to anyone.  he could have simply started his speech with something like, "sabi nga ni late u.s. senator robert f. kennedy..."  just one phrase, and he could have stood taller and more credible.

accused plagiarist fareed zakaria's redemption:

Time magazine and CNN are reinstating the commentator Fareed Zakaria after a review of his work in light of his admission that he plagiarized parts of a New Yorker article in a recent column for Time.

“We have completed a thorough review of each of Fareed Zakaria’s columns for Time, and we are entirely satisfied that the language in question in his recent column was an unintentional error and an isolated incident for which he has apologized,” a Time spokeswoman said in a statement on Thursday. “We look forward to having Fareed’s thoughtful and important voice back in the magazine with his next column in the issue that comes out on Sept. 7.”

#30229
how fareed zakaria met headlong the accusation of plagiarism:

The similarities in the texts were spotted by the conservative Web site NewsBusters, and quickly spread across the Internet after appearing on the media blog JimRomenesko.com.

After the similarities were found, Mr. Zakaria issued a statement saying: “Media reporters have pointed out that paragraphs in my Time column this week bear close similarities to paragraphs in Jill Lepore’s essay in the April 23 issue of The New Yorker. They are right. I made a terrible mistake. It is a serious lapse and one that is entirely my fault. I apologize unreservedly to her, to my editors at Time, and to my readers.”

lately in the u.s. is an esteemed writer who had been suspended for a month by the outfits (cnn and time magazine) he works for because of plagiarism.

like any writer under intense pressure, fareed zakaria had tripped.  this former editor-in-chief of newsweek is an esteemed geo-political analyst whose writings have become references of world politicians.  when his one-off plagiarism was discovered, he was gracious enough to admit it.  this graciousness seems to be beyond senator sotto.

The PRO-RH Bill caucus is feasting on this and utilizing Mr. Sotto's mistake to make forays in attacking the ANTI-RH Bill caucus at something that is totally irrelevant to the subject matter. Sotto should apologize for his mistake, and take the fight into pressing his inherent ANTI-RH agenda. Move forward!

he did, and made it worse.  the words sound better in filipino, he had said.  what kind of an apology is that?  this guy actually doesn't know how to apologize.  it is as if apologizing is beneath him.  this explains why bloggers, whether they're pro- or anti-rh bill, seem to be on the lookout for his speeches.

in his first contra speech, he simply declared that bloggers are not plagiarized because "mga bloggers lang yan", to which bloggers replied "senador lang yan".  so there, it looks like it's going to be bloggers who will bring him down.

Before May's surge in cosmic rays researchers had said they expected Voyager 1 would leave the solar system and enter interstellar space -- between the boundary of the Sun's influence and the next star system -- within two years.

NASA has described Voyager 1 -- now 11 billion miles (18 billion kilometers) away from the Sun -- and its companion Voyager 2 as "the two most distant active representatives of humanity and its desire to explore."

The scientists controlling Voyager 1 -- whose 1970s technology gives it just a 100,000th of the computer memory of an eight-gigabyte iPod Nano -- decided to turn off its cameras after it passed Neptune in 1989, to preserve power.

Assuming the craft continues to function normally, they will have to start turning off other on-board instruments from 2020, and it is expected to run out of power completely in 2025, said [space scientist Ed] Stone.

excerpts from 35 years on, Voyager 'dancing on edge' of outer space by Michael Thurston, AFP

some background:

The twin Voyager craft -- Voyager 2 was actually launched first, on August 20, 1977, followed by Voyager 1 on September 5 -- were designed primarily to study the biggest planets in our solar system, Jupiter and Saturn.

Taking advantage of a planetary alignment, they fulfilled that mission before pushing on to Uranus and Neptune, beaming back stunning images of the first two in 1979 and 1980, and the latter pair in 1986 and 1989.

But with those jobs complete and both craft still functioning perfectly, project managers decided to keep mining information as the devices fly further into the void and towards the very edge of our solar system.

Artist's concept painting released June 19, 2012 by NASA/JPL-Caltech shows Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 at the edge of the solar system. Voyager 1, launched in 1977, is nearing the edge of the solar system and may already be "dancing on the edge" of outer space, the scientists behind the project said.

We can only speculate or even imagine why politicians court or rub elbows with big time or popular cult leaders - or even established traditional churches - but we will never know the motive behind such approach. I wish I do... ma datu na jud ko ani na charism/talent hehehe...

all i can say is that those in this particular picture were not appointed president or vice-president by the appointed son of god. ;D

as an afterthought, binay, who also had an audience with this appointed son of god in some other archived news item, made it.

on the other hand, despite public declarations by the iglesia ni cristo that their support was for the aquino-roxas tandem, i suspect (because of a very reliable source---an inc guy who boasts too much about the political power of their cult) that they still voted for binay because "he helped their church much", according to that inc guy.

sadly, it is as if these cults can scare our politicians more than the catholic church.

“Can you imagine that? When we talk about ex cathedra, that means infallibility, I hope (Sereno)  doesn’t think that way because that’s not good.  That doesn’t allow for dissent,” he warned.

Sereno, whose appointment broke the seniority rule in the tradition-minded third branch of government, also asked colleagues to shun intrigues.

Arroyo, who voted against Corona’s conviction during his impeachment trial in the Senate, said the newly appointed Chief Justice might mistake her so-called divinely inspired appointment as authority to speak, like the Pope, ex cathedra “because she has angelical status, she crowned herself … the anointee of God!”

“When the Pope talks of matters about faith and morals, you cannot challenge that.  She was anointed by God! Isn’t that what she said?”

Trying to look serious, Arroyo recalled Sereno’s statement at the flag-raising ceremony and quoted newspaper accounts of the Chief Justice saying “she is there because of God’s will, not Malacañang’s will or the President’s.”

Joker Arroyo: Is Sereno now infallible like the Pope?

By Cathy C. Yamsuan
Philippine Daily Inquirer
Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

Senator Joker Arroyo hopes Chief Justice Lourdes Sereno will not mistake “God’s will” for infallibility.

A born-again Christian, the 52-year-old Sereno in her first flag ceremony on Monday in the Supreme Court with half of the 14 magistrates in attendance invoked divine intervention in her appointment by President Aquino to replace ousted Chief Justice Renato Corona.

“After the Chief Justice expressed her belief that she was anointed by the Good Lord as chief magistrate, I hope she would not think she has now the infallibility in her judicial opinions,” Arroyo said, tongue-in-cheek.

sometime last month...  precarious man gyod intawon among residence diri sa manila.  it's an 18-storey building, mao nga medyo wary ko for emergencies, like fires and earthquakes.  because i'm alone most of the time, naa koy permanent emergency bag nga puniton lang diretso kun magkalisod.  contents: a day's change of clothes, legal documents, cash and jewelry, medicines.

anyway, kausa, ni-dingdong ang roving guard; he asked calmly if i was cooking something that was burning.  i wasn't.  the corridor had an alarming presence of smoke, i noticed.  my knees turned to jelly.

i did the following, in this order: called the banana republic, put our cat in his carrier, picked up the emergency bag, carried both the carrier and bag to the corridor, locked our door, and waited for the banana republic.

magkalisod ang kalibotan, unahon gyod nakog dala ang buhi.  second priority lang ang emergency bag.

there's only one infectious diseases specialist and/or epidemiologist in the visayas.  she's a lady doctor (i forgot her name, but she was my doctor some years back when i landed in a hospital one day after waking up and looking like miss piggy).  when a cdc team from atlanta comes to the visayas and mindanao, she's the first person they coordinate with.

sail on, sail on, lorenz, though the heavens may rain...

have you considered specializing in tropical diseases (read: exotic) one day, or joining the ranks of cdc in atlanta?  or the united nations health program?  that would be great.  not much money there, but to be anywhere around the world where epidemics are, where you are most needed... whew!

nakakita pa gyod ko sa una pa kaayo ug mga caged unggoy, for their brains to be eaten raw.

mao nga paghapak ug mga sakit nga kuyaw unya dala diay ug unggoy (ebola tops the list, among many) nakaingon gyod ko tawon ug 'tua na, sugod nag hapak ug bawos, as nature does...'

nakakita pa gyod ko sa una pa kaayo ug mga caged unggoy, for their brains to be eaten raw.  motudlo lang ang customer asa iyang gusto, diha-diha, buhi pa ang unggoy, kuhaon ang skull aron ma-exposed ang brains para kaonon.  where was this?  northern china man tingali to... gahilak kog gasuka tungod kay ang mga unggoy intawon moluhod, mangayog pakimalooy to have their lives spared.  it's a cruel world with cruel human beings. :'(

salamat nga wa ko makakita ato.  sukad ko nakakita sa natgeo channel more than 10 years ago ug zebra nga gikaon ug lion, never na gyod ko motan-aw ug natgeo channel.

in fact, with that ug mag-away pa gyod mi ni banana republic kay gusto niya channel ug boxing, ako gustog channel ug ice figure skating, unya ang mga bata magkawatkawat ug tan-aw kun molakaw ko bisag allowed lang sila motan-aw friday evening to saturday evening (pag-uli nako, init ang tv kun akong hikapon), wa na gyod miy tv.  if that box becomes a contentious issue in the family, better not to have that box.

p.s. wa ba baliki tong nabiyaan intawon?  basin ug gibalikan, or there were rescue teams...

In a separate move the Animal League also undertook a lifesaving operation prior to the event as reported here:

More cats rescued by the Animal League

Since Hurricane Katrina it seems animal charities have really begun to get their act together in preparing for future catastrophic events.

But don’t forget all those kitties that need re-homing. In the current economy an increasing number of people are abandoning their pets.  Surprising but the number of cat owners is decreasing and many others cannot afford vets bills.  Our view at Pussington Post is that those of us that can help should seriously consider what they can do.

87 cats rescued from Hurricane Isaac

by James Lautner
Senior Cats Editor
September 2, 2012

There have been many unhappy cat stories in the news recently I thought you might like a more uplifting one about some cats rescued from the hurricane.  It appears that before it hit animal charities did some great work moving cats from its path.  According to the Mail Online:

The SPCA took 87 cats and 60 dogs from New Orleans in Louisiana after Isaac lashed the area earlier this week leaving a trail of carnage in its wake.

The cats and dogs were taken to Texas.

Lucky cats were inside at home when the storm struck

our cats and dogs, tungod lagi kay di man makagawas kun way human companion (specially the dogs kay interesahan unyag ihaw), tagaan ug soft cut grass sa ilang yaya, once a week.  morag korek gyod hinoon kay ilang usap-usapon ug duwaan ug ligidligiran ang cut grass nga isabwag sa sawog.

whew!  out of 15, nakalugar ug 3 places and philippines... ingon pobre, hahay.  (what are malls basically for than for shoppers kunohay?)

also, this top 15 biggest mall list shows the placers as all in asia, except for the one at edmonton, canada, and maybe the one in turkey (which would rather identify itself with europe than with asia).

from southeast asia alone, 8 malls made it to this list of 15.

Death Toll after Operation Overlord

Source rationale: This source is a chart that shows the death toll of the Nations involved in D-Day.  A lot of people knew that D-Day was a very deadly attack but not many people know just how many people died there. The chart breaks it into deaths by country. Germany was at the top of the chart with 320,000 deaths, followed by the United States with 135,000, then United Kingdom, Canada, and France where the last three all with less then 65,000. This chart gives us a disturbing reminder of how deadly Operation Overlord really was.  This source fits in with our other source because it shows the aftermath of D-Day.  This source goes along with our thesis.  We found this source using the Encyclopedia Britannica.
