Yes, lots of Americans are ill informed...so are a lot of Filipinos. But come to think about it, if everyone was concerned about things that are useless in their daily lives, do you honestly think there could be progress ?  Your wealth of knowledge about geopolitics won't buy a mansion but maybe a wealth of knowledge in stocks, commodities or real estate will. You can't blame people for pursuing what is important to them...and FYI, I don't think most Americans think they're the center of the world. Just like how most Filipinos think that everything from the US is better, a lot of Americans think that if its from Europe, its better...so on and so forth.

Yes, more often than not, it is worse, mind you. We share a bias of course being emotionally attached but when you look and really think of all that has happened when you were growing up, it clearly shows the bad habits and attitudes result in even worse than what is even reported in the news. Of course, money and power come into play, except in cases of extreme egregiousness like Mayor Sanchez. Otherwise, would we really hear of just 2 or 3 women they raped and killed ?

On the upside, there are a lot of good as well, the term, " Universality of the Human Experience" . It hurts to think about but it seems that all of most of our values that we thought as ours is not exclusive to us. Warm hospitality, sense of kabayanihan, family ties... I live in a community where there is a hodge podge of colors and nationalities and where you visit friends, hospitality is as warm as any Filipino household, most of the time, even better.

True, but I go to the path of least resistance. The way I figure, why bother when I am already considered a lower creature just because I'm a woman. I try to go where I can feel welcomed and not hated for reasons that I couldn't change. I am born a woman, brown and raised Catholic. If I am hated because of that, there is no point for me to force myself. The world is big enough, and there are other cultures, other peoples that can and will teach me a lot. Life is short. 

I can say this much though..Persian food is pretty darn good !

You are lucky if you've had that then.Up close and personal. Some people say you don't know what you're missing if you've never had it. I tend to agree with it. For some who have not known any other kind of life, it must be the best. A do agree with you that we should follow laws of our host country and yes, I may be at fault when I generalize people from there. Furthermore, I don't think it is right when you say that their history is peppered by White colonization, the Arab world has not been colonized, if my history serves me right. I think the more appropriate term would be Catholic invasion in the Holy Wars in the time of the Crusades.

to close, I do not condescend upon them, rather, I can own up that I really dislike them as a whole.  I do not think myself better than them but I would rather have nothing to do with them if I can help it. Its a personal preference and from what little my experience is with dealing with people from that part of the world. They always screw you over. Personally as clients for both my husband and I.

Holy War is an even bigger reason I don't want anything to do with them too.

Yes, I've spent more than a week in Bohol, in fact, I go visit my parents twice a year, every year almost. Sometimes I stay for just 4 days and last December, I stayed for more than 2 weeks. I see what is going on. Nobody is perfect and as I've said, Politicians will be Politicians.

So rag on the candidates all you want. At the end of the day, Veloso will always be the a** who was like a brother to my dad when my parents were filthy rich but turned his back on him when he was sick. Lim will always be the family friend who was never really close, but stepped up to the plate when he saw his assisstance was needed. And I don't mean money before you say that. 

Lastly....in the forum world. "Ang pikon talo" ...get worked up all you want, its not gonna ruin my dinner.

People we gotta take it with a grain of salt as it is common knowledge that  DYRD does not like Dan Lim and has their own vested interests in not having him re-elected.

I've heard so many stories about how this all started, plus stories that I've read in the media...add to that, things that I've seen and heard personally in my yearly or sometimes, semi-annual visit to our Tagbilaran.

I know the guy personally as he is my Ninong and while he is very  strict, he has done a lot of improvement to our city.

Toto Veloso is our next door neighbor growing up and he is my younger brother's Ninong. After my dad got sick, became diabetic and couldn't go back to the ship anymore..MEANING...poor, even though we were next door neighbors, my then "Uncle Toto" and his family were suddenly distant and behave like they didn't even know us. Weird.

Ninong Dan on the other hand has been very supportive. He has showed great generosity specially towards the elderly. Sometimes from his own pockets. He has been instrumental in attracting more medical missions to the city and as you can see from the improvements : Uniform for the kids, Field trips for senior citizens, Blue card, Botika sa Katawhan etc etc etc.


My point is, I may have personal connections with both but at the end of the day, politicians will still be politicians. We gotta remember to pick the lesser evil.

Would we rather vote and elect Mr. Perfect who can't do as much good for our city...or shall we accept the good and the bad and then enjoy the service that the less perfect but with a good track record candidate can offer ?

My choice would be clear even if Toto Veloso wasn't an a** to my parents.


Maayo nalang nang naay mabuhat kaysa jamu gyud improvement. Its not for lack of intentions, but for lack of resources. Lim has lots and lots of friends to help him pull it off....Veloso..not so much. I know this for a fact.

On one hand, there is a massive recession in the US and thousands have lost their jobs.

It seems to get better but every time you open the news, there are companies closing their doors. Here in my community alone, I've seen quite a few jobs that have closed their doors signalling the end of maybe 10-15 jobs.

Non-medical caregivers is a good alternative to medical caregivers as they are not as expensive, but with the recession, the employers here might be more conservative with their expenses, the clients probably cut their hours and it follows that the employers waiting for these people will have to delay importing them, afterall, the employers here pay the ticket, board and lodging and about $3,000 of immigration expenses.

But since this is a politician that's involved...hmmmmm.....there might be something more to it than just the recession.
