To be fair, I'm just as graced/blessed to meet Bran in person, finally. Not only is he a beautiful human being, he's very down-to-earth (I thought he was always on Cloud 9) and well-verse (at least he tried) in Boholano dialect, although a bit funny in his accent. It was fun to be with him and some old buddies with lots of food - bbq, sashimi, etc - and shoot a few hoops. Now I remember!!! I made quite a few shot on that little goal bwahahaha!!!  ;D

Father, i remember trying to find you, and you telling me on your phone, "Bran, look to your left, yes..thats me!"
I am so happy to have met you, Fr, dili lang to chit chat, but also to see you and your friends. Abi nako your friends did not know me, but it turns out that we are all somehow connected or have relatives that knew relatives.

Tinuod jud: it really is a small world.

PS. Ingon kono ahong auntie nga ang Lungay ug ang Torrero are related down the road. I am related to the torrero by way of my father's mother; whose mother was a Torrero. I just found that out.

Fr,. yes you did. I also know that I drank too much san miguel that night because i was red upon arriving home. Or was it because we laughed too much that night? lol!

Miss talking to you, Pops!

I am in no ways defending the actions of the late Inspt. Mendoza, however, the said writer has to take into consideration that these kinds of violent hostage cases are not specified nor are they prone in poor nations , but are quite universal. Our country being Filipino and the culture being Filipino has no relation to the said hostage taker. In fact, the reasons for the hostage taker's actions was due to what we call in psychiatry as: Manic Depressive. This individual was desperate, and after reading the history of his life, his life events and the said charges pressed upon him, one notices that the man was in a depressive stage, which he felt unfairly brought upon him by the authority, in this case, the police department.

Cases like these, which represent the mental inability to accept reality , a symptom seen and observed (unfortunately) in patients experiencing psychosis and acute manic episodes.

In fact, different countries around the world experience these said cases of acute violence by people who have been stretched to the limit, and or exacerbated with the fact that they had un-diagnosed manic depression, acute manic attacks. The police officer's inability to address the situation is not because they were Filipino, nay, it was because Manila has never had this kind of situation or experienced them in such abundance as say in countries like : The United States, and countries in the EU.

The writer, in my opinion, is using this situation to point out the negatives of the Filipino when in fact, there is no relation to that to the hostage situation.

Dear writer, before you complain about the Philippines, please look at the spiraling family life in the Netherlands and the pragmatic rising divorce rates, and uncontrolled drug use in good ol' Holland.

"Deep within yourself listen to your conscience which calls you to be pure. A home is not warmed by the fire of pleasure, which burns quickly like a pile of weed grass. Passing encounters are only a caricature of love, they injure hearts and mock Gods plan." Pope John Paul II

"To defend his purity St. Francis of Assisi rolled in the snow, St. Benedict through himself into a thorn bush, St. Bernard plunged himself into an icy pond. You, what have you done? Don't say that's the way I am, its my character, NO! Its your lack of character. Be a Man! When you decide firmly to live a pure life, chastity will not be a burden on you, it will be a crown of triumph." St. Jose Maria Escriva

"A pure soul is like a fine pearl. As long as it is hidden in the shell at the bottom of the sea, no one thinks of admiring it. But if you bring it into the sunshine, this pearl will shine and attract all eyes. Thus, the pure soul which is hidden from the eyes of the world, will one day shine before the angels in the sunshine of eternity." St. John Vianney

Raquel, you do truly bring up a good point,.. pero sigoro na entrenched ang uban mga lalake that virginity represents purity. One has to also take into consideration the conservative society that is in the Philippines and compare it to the more liberated society that is in say, the United States and in Europe. One also has to take that into consideration and apply how society's view in regards to feminine purity and how that is substantiated / ingrained in the psyche of men in that particular society and ultimately reflects in the preference for the virgin as compared to the de-virginized female cohort.

There are many aspects one has to consider when we address this/ study this: we need to delve into the sociology of the particular society, the psychophysiology of inherent male preference for virgin females as compared to de-virginized females, the role of religion in said processes etc.

haha, quite so, Ms. Cujo. Perhaps the civil war soldier will carry you and recite a sweet line or two for you...hehe
It's good to see that you like antiques..and have a fond interest in fine things, even old fine things :) I do too.
In regards to the bracelet--yes it was a flapper age bracelet. I purchsed it in Bloomfield, NJ (north jersey) where there was a strong flapper community during the turn of the 20th century. Sometimes, my dear, I like to go to old antique shops and look at their old furniture, their old cigar holders, and the old books.

I'm the sport for old books---that of which is a subject for another discussion, me-thinks.

Sweet hugs for you,

Here in America, most young adults my age have what we call FBs (f_ck buddies). And as you can guess, the purpose of the relationship is given in its name. When a college student finds a friend, and does not want the extra baggage of a relationship, yet wants the physical comforts of a relationship (meaning, sex, and alot of it), then he would find a female companion to be FBs with.

The trick to this kind of relationship is not getting emotionally involved. From personal experience lang, ha, the women eventually get involved emotionally after some time.

Some of my friends in college who ended up dating were FBs at first prior to dating. Now they've been dating for quite some time now (3-4 years?).

:)

This is not a 'one night stand'. More of a 'many night stands'  with the perks of physical relationship, yet without the baggage and complexities of an emotional relationship.

From reading into this, Ray, it seems that they are looking for skilled and professional workers: engineers, technicians, construction, etc.

Since it is in Guam and Guam is an American Territory (meaning they will be paid in American Dollars and thus susceptible to pay American Tax Laws, then the Filipino workers will be subject to the Minimum Wage Act, meaning they will be paid fairly...).

Civil Engineer Salary in Guam ranges from: $50,000-$56,000 (annual pay)
: This translates to about 2,300,000 - 2, 576, 000 Pesos (annual pay)

we are believers in the merc, too.  our first one ages ago was a 1988 230e model.  it was just too big for me.  this one now is a 160e with 6 cylinders.  its size is just right for me; i don't feel 'buried' in it, unlike the old one where i felt like a little girl inside.

we have a friend whose mercedes had been through it all, the mileage counter went back to 1, from the beginning, because it has reached the maximum mileage that the counter is capable of counting.  yet the car was still in tip-top shape and super running condition, good as new.

Isles, when you buy a luxury vehicle, you truly get your money's worth. Period.

When my father and I were searching for a new car for my mother, the things we looked at were:
1. Safety standards
2. Engine performance
3. Fuel efficiency
4. Luxury standards

We considered the following models:
1. Porsche Cayenne S
2. Mercedes ML-350
3. Toyota Land Cruiser
4. Cadillac Escalade
5. Audi Q7

Decision:
My father saw all the specs, test drove the models and concluded that the Porsche Cayenne S was the best of them all.
So he got that one. It's truly a beauty. The thing about luxury cars is that they're not just toys, or automobiles for the sake of being driven, no, they are also pieces of art. The example of human mechanical engineering...

This was his wedding anniversary present to my mom. :)

an old mercedes, e class.  (must be e class because there's an e there, otherwise, i'm truly daft about classes, hehe.)  the hubby bought it because he felt it fits me to a t.

Mercedes Benz is one of the top quality car makers out there, their older models are beautiful and the engine is built to last decades. I have a good friend whose father still drives a 1998 Mercedes S-500 series and the engine is still in tip top shape despite having over 120,000 miles. History / October: Filipino-American History Month
September 01, 2010, 05:26:11 AM

The 2008 Hawaii State Legislature passed a bill, HB 3343 HD1, designating the month of October as Filipino-American History Month. The bill was passed unanimously by the House and Senate and signed into law by the Governor on April 15, 2008. The legislation was introduced by Representative Joey Manahan (D29-Sand Island, Kalihi Kai, Kapalama) and members of the Filipino Caucus. Filipino-American History Month has been widely celebrated in the United States since 1988. However, the Hawaii State Legislature is the first governing body to officially recognize this month.

So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, no human being must separate.” They said to Him, “Then why did Moses command that the man give the woman a bill of divorce and dismiss [her]?” He said to them, “Because of the hardness of your hearts Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. I say to you, whoever divorces his wife (unless the marriage is unlawful) and marries another commits adultery.” [His] disciples said to Him, “If that is the case of a man with his wife, it is better not to marry.”

He answered, “Not all can accept [this] word, but only those to whom that is granted. Some are incapable of marriage because they were born so; some, because they were made so by others; some, because they have renounced marriage for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Whoever can accept this ought to accept it.”

If the relationship is brutally severe, where on side is physically and mentally abusing the other--then separation is necessary. Perhaps one can apply for annulment/ divorce.

In any case, one should consider relationship/ couple counseling? Separation should be the last resort after all other resources have been exhausted. My view.

Qui-pao was mostly worn.  We are truly closely knit that´s why it is not easy to run a party like these because we are bad audiences, iyahay ug tabi.

I adapt easily to my environment, Raquel. Tho i have never slept on a banig (or has been 20+ years since) , i requested we stay at a relative's house in Pintuyan, Southern Leyte instead of staying at a pension house. Reason for this was there were alot of family members looking to visit and see me (likewise vice versa). I did not sleep till the wee hours of the morning (3-4 am?). My relatives and distant relatives ended up sleeping over and the whole house was filled--they all slept on the floor on banigs some of them singing and talking of yesteryears, about my paternal grandfather and his family.

I had a cousin massage me using efficasent oil & rubbing alcohol while I laid on the banig. Na tug ko dali. hehe.

Sleeping on a banig is not bad; especially if inside a payag while it rains outside...bugnaw kaayo. Matulug jud ko ana.

:)

Beautiful indeed. I notice that they are sporting the Vietnamese Ao-Yai. (or is it the Chinese Qi-Pao?)
Good to see the Bolanons in Germany are closely knit.

Thanks Manay.

i guess that's the beauty of life--we meet new people, yet have the ability to always look back and see the horizon. Tho we are no longer together, we are still good friends to this day.

That said, lets all keep on smiling. Cuz life is too beautiful, worth living, experiences make life--livable.

One time, I went out on a date with a girl and ended up forgetting to call her the next day. The next day (we took a history class together), she gave me attitude for apparently 'dissing' her. I could not help but smile because she was so very beautiful. She had green eyes, and dirty blonde hair. Beautiful Jewish girl.

The next day i got her flowers. We remained friends.

I should've called her. My mistake.

Dear brothers and sisters,

It's necessary for us to search within ourselves, of who we are, and accept our weaknesses and our imperfections because in these times and moments, is when we find our perfection as man. As what St. Francis de Sales best put it, "This is the very perfection of a man, to find out his own imperfections."

And when one fully comprehends his limitations and places trust in the Lord Jesus Christ in all things, one experiences an indescribable joy and support, perseverance of the soul, and the realization that though one is imperfect, is augmented and brought to shine in the brilliance of Faith in Christ. One realizes a feeling of unfathomable joy by the Power of the Holy Spirit--and that spirit of Hope that comes from Christ's Promise of Eternal Support--truly transforms an individual for the better.

For there is no imperfections in the sight of Christ. What is imperfect in the eyes of man, is perfected by Faith in Christ.

With Love,
A. Lorenzo

The Act of Bravery Inspires Those Around You:  The Divine Command

The Divine Word In Modern Perspective

by: A. Lorenzo Lucino Jr

At the peak of his night shift , Dr. Ronald Kennsings, who was a general intern working in Raleigh Regional Hospital's Emergency Room, helped stabilize a stab wound patient  while the surrounding medical staff handled other patients in that room. Now when one thinks of a hospital setting, one thinks that there are multifaceted professionals with specific derived tasks: the nurse, the medical technologist, the nursing aides, the respiratory technician, the radiology technician, and the physician. However, there are times when the medical staff is undermanned, and in these times and circumstances , the importance of team work and criteria in selective care is necessitated.

The following hours that night revealed this practical truth. Several hours later, there was a massive traffic accident that occurred in Interstate 95, and the victims that were rescued were dispatched to Raleigh Medical Hospital, and at that moment, the only physician on the floor was Ronald, supported by 5 nurses in the ER that evening. The patients arrived in precipitating order, all together, 9 patients arrived with severe cranial concussions, several laceration injuries, severe internal bleeding cases, and 2 patients came in already unresponsive to CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation).

Ronald and the nursing staff took the helm and treated patients (from most severe to less severe), but at the height of the situation, Ronald found himself dimming and starting to bend psychologically, stressed and weakened by overwork, and the patients needing attention, exacerbated with the fact that he was the only physician on the floor that night. He began to despair, the sounds and the sights of his patients, his colleagues were faded, and he thought to himself, "How could i be placed in this situation? I can't do this, I don't have the strength to pull through this. I'm not good enough a doctor to help all of these people, why did i have to be here now? Someone help me..."

At that exact moment, a voice from the back of his mind came to him and resounded, "You Can Do Anything In My Name. Do Not Give Up. Stand on me, your Solid Ground."

Ronald gently proclaimed, "Jesus Help Me Tonight..." Ronald was strengthened at that moment and was given a surge of importance, his questioning ceased and he performed his duties as necessitated. After an hour of work, 2 other physicians that were on call that night came to the ER to support Ronald, and within 2 hours, all the patients were cared for and stabilized.

Ronald sat in the waiting room trying to clear his mind of the stress when he was approached by 2 registered nurses; the two of them thanked him for staying resilient in the floor and not wavering during the height of the situation. They thanked him and reminded him of how they were encouraged by his bravery and determination. Ronald smiled, and as the nurses walked back to the ER ward, Ronald fixed his eyes on the ceiling and gave a smile of thanks. His faith helped him carry the day and encouraged others around him. He then stood up, and walked back to the ER to handle another patient. Back to work.

"Will your courage endure or your hands be strong in the day I deal with you? I the LORD have spoken, and I will do it.
The Effects Your Courage Will Have On Others"

--Ezekiel 22:14
