AC Health President & CEO, Paolo Borromeo, was invited as a speaker to the Siemens Healthineers Executive Summit in Munich, Germany, last October 20 to 21. There, he was joined by more than 200 other healthcare leaders and executives from over 40 countries.

As a speaker for the panel on "Healthcare for everyone," Paolo shared AC Health's vision of touching 1 in 5 Filipino lives by 2030 through creating an integrated ecosystem of services that spans the entire continuum of care.

"Our belief is that this ecosystem approach offers our patients different touch points where they can access convenient and seamless care, all the while, empowering our doctors and healthcare workers with the right tools and platforms to provide better care," said Paolo Borromeo.

"We will continue to work with likeminded partners, both in the public and private sectors, to innovate, explore new models, and find new solutions towards improving healthcare for all Filipinos."

AN AFTERNOON CONVERSATION WITH BOHOL ARTISTS
By Cooper Resabal

The afternoon at Balay Kabilin in Tagbilaran City on November 3, 2022 served as a space for sharing information and ideas around art-related activities or projects that the participants are involved with in a relaxed environment.

It was facilitated by independent curators Rhine Bernardino (Boholana based in London) and Giulia Casalini (Italian atist), in collaboration with local artists/curators/researchers.

The main local facilitators have been encouraged to invite art workers/researchers/activists who would be interested in taking part in the 3-hour afternoon conversation.

After sharing what each one does as an artist, it was explained that the session was part of a project that involves "mapping sessions" to "highlight art practices and activism that strengthen and deepen cultural identity across indigenous communities and communities at the margins."

After a merienda break of camote and puto-bingka, a participant showed the facilitators some steps of the Kuradang dance of Bohol which led some to join the vigorous dancing.

Then, it was group photo time in telenovela fashion: "Karon, Ugma Puhon."

Anonymous Diary Blog / You Can't Be Everyone's Cup of Tea
November 01, 2022, 07:30:35 PM
YOU CAN'T BE EVERYONE'S CUP OF TEA

There will always be someone in this life who just doesn't like you, no matter how hard you try to please them.
There will always be something that you say, or do, which causes offence or division.
Whether you meant to or not.
There will always be someone who finds fault in you, your life or your words.
You may never find out why, please don't waste your precious time trying to.

You can't be everyone's cup of tea.

Then there will be those who like you on impact.
A little fizz of energy that passes between you.
Silently, unseen, bonding.
Those people will not only like you but they will like you fiercely.
They are your people.
Whatever spare time you have, spend it on them.

You can't be everyone's cup of tea, but you can be someone's first sip of a cold drink on a sunny day...

Or a warming hot chocolate when you come in from the rain
or the pop of a long awaited champagne cork
or a stiff shot of tequila when things go awry

Find your people,
love them hard.

Family & Parenting / Financial Advice to the Youth
November 01, 2022, 04:09:51 PM
By Morgan Housel

On June 3, 2019, my wife and I welcomed our daughter into the world. She's barely old enough to walk, so her job (mostly eating and sleeping) hasn't changed much.

But, one day, she'll need some money and life advice. As a father who has spent much of his career studying and writing about money, behavioral finance and business, this is what I'll tell her:

1. Don't underestimate the role of chance in life.

It's easy to assume that wealth and poverty are caused by the choices we make, but it's even easier to underestimate the role of chance in life.

The families, values, countries and generations we're born into, as well as the people we happen to meet along the way, all play a bigger role in our outcomes than most people want to admit.

While you should believe in the values and rewards of hard work, it's also important to understand that not all success is a result of hard work, and that not all poverty is due to laziness. Keep this in mind when forming opinions about others, including yourself.

2. The highest dividend money pays is the ability to control time.
Being able to do what you want, when you want, where you want, with who you want and for as long as you want provides a lasting level of happiness that no amount of "fancy stuff" can ever offer.

The thrill of having fancy stuff wears off quickly. But a job with flexible hours and a short commute will never get old. Having enough savings to give you time and options during an emergency will never get old. Being able to retire when you want to will never get old.

Achieving independence is our ultimate goal in life. But independence isn't an "all-or-nothing" — every dollar you save is like owning a slice of your future that might otherwise be managed by someone else, based on their priorities.

3. Don't count on getting spoiled.
No one can grasp the value of a dollar without experiencing its scarcity, so while your mother and I will always do our best to support you, we're not going to spoil you.

Learning that you can't have everything you want is the only way to understand needs versus desires. This in turn will teach you about budgeting, saving, and valuing what you already have.

Knowing how to be frugal — without it hurting you — is an essential life skill that will come in handy during life's inevitable ups and downs.

4. Success doesn't always come from big actions.
Napoleon's definition of a genius is the person "who can do the average thing when everyone else around him is losing his mind."

Managing money is the same.  You don't have to do amazing things to end up in a good place over time, you just have to consistently not screw up for long periods of time.

Avoiding catastrophic mistakes (the biggest of which is burying yourself in debt) is more powerful than any fancy financial tip.

5. Live below your means.
The ability to live with less is one of the most powerful financial levers, because you'll have more control over it than things like your income or investment returns.

The person who makes $50,000 per year, but only needs $40,000 to be happy, is richer than the person who makes $150,000, but needs $151,000 to be happy. The investor who earns a 5% return, but has low expenses, may be better off than the investor who earns 7% a year, but needs every penny of it.

How much you make doesn't determine how much you have, and how much you have doesn't determine how much you need.

6. It's okay to change your mind.
Almost no one has their life figured out by age 18, so it's not the end of the world if you pick a major that you end up not enjoying. Or get a degree in a field that you're not 100% passionate about. Or work in a career and later decide you want to do something else.

It's okay to admit that your values and goals have evolved. Forgiving yourself for changing your mind is a superpower, especially when you're young.

7. Everything has a price.
The price of a busy career is time away from friends and family. The price of long-term market returns is uncertainty and volatility. The price of spoiling kids is them living a sheltered life.

Everything worthwhile comes with a price, and most of those prices are hidden. They're sometimes worth paying for, but you should never ignore their true costs.

Once you accept this, you'll start to view things like time, relationships, autonomy and creativity as currencies that are just as valuable as cash.

8. Money is not the greatest measure of success.
Warren Buffett once said: True success in life is "when the number of people you want to have love you actually do love you."

And that love comes overwhelmingly from how you treat people, rather than your level of net worth. Money won't provide the thing that you (and almost everyone else) want most. No amount of money can compensate for a lack of character, honesty and genuine empathy towards others.

This is the most important financial advice I can give you.

9. Don't blindly accept any advice you're given.
All the lessons here, including this last one, are things that most people learn too late in life. But feel free to reject them.

Your world will be different from mine, just as mine is different from my parents. No one is exactly is the same, and no one has all the right answers. Never take anyone's advice without contextualizing it with your own values, goals and circumstances.

Your parents love you. We are so happy you're here. Please let us sleep.

Showbiz & Celebrity / Aemond the Kinslayer
November 01, 2022, 03:48:48 AM
Aemond Targaryen...who would henceforth be known as Aemond the Kinslayer to his foes...returned to King's Landing, having won the support of Storm's End for his brother Aegon, and the undying enmity of Queen Rhaenyra. If he thought to receive a hero's welcome, he was disappointed.

Queen Alicent went pale when she heard what he had done, crying, "Mother have mercy on us all."

Nor was Ser Otto pleased. "You only lost one eye," he is reported to have said. "How could you be so blind?"

The king himself did not share their concerns, however. Aegon II welcomed Prince Aemond home with a great feast, hailed him as "the true blood of the dragon," and announced that he had made "a good beginning."

On Dragonstone, Queen Rhaenyra collapsed when told of Luke's death. Luke's young brother Joffrey (Jace was still away on his mission north) swore a terrible oath of vengeance against Prince Aemond and Lord Borros. Only the intervention of the Sea Snake and Princess Rhaenys kept the boy from mounting his own dragon at once. (Mushroom would have us believe he played a part as well.)

As the black council sat to consider how to strike back, a raven arrived from Harrenhal. "An eye for an eye, a son for a son," Prince Daemon wrote. "Lucerys shall be avenged."

Let it not be forgotten: in his youth, Daemon Targaryen had been the "Prince of the City," his face and laugh familiar to every cutpurse, whore, and gambler in Flea Bottom. The prince still had friends in the low places of King's Landing, and followers amongst the gold cloaks. Unbeknownst to King Aegon, the Hand, or the Queen Dowager, he had allies at court as well, even on the green council...and one other go-between, a special friend he trusted utterly, who knew the wine sinks and rat pits that festered in the shadow of the Red Keep as well as Daemon himself once had, and moved easily through the shadows of the city. To this pale stranger he reached out now, by secret ways, to set a terrible vengeance into motion.

Amidst the stews of Flea Bottom, Prince Daemon's go-between found suitable instruments. One had been a serjeant in the City Watch; big and brutal, he had lost his gold cloak for beating a whore to death whilst in a drunken rage. The other was a ratcatcher in the Red Keep. Their true names are lost to history. They are remembered (would that they were not!) as Blood and Cheese.

"Cheese knew the Red Keep better than the shape of his own cock," Mushroom tells us. The hidden doors and secret tunnels that Maegor the Cruel had built were as familiar to the ratcatcher as to the rats he hunted. Using a forgotten passageway, Cheese led Blood into the heart of the castle, unseen by any guard. Some say their quarry was the king himself, but Aegon was accompanied by the Kingsguard wherever he went, and even Cheese knew of no way in and out of Maegor's Holdfast save over the drawbridge that spanned the dry moat and its formidable iron spikes.

The Tower of the Hand was less secure. The two men crept up through the walls, bypassing the spearmen posted at the tower doors. Ser Otto's rooms were of no interest to them. Instead they slipped into his daughter's chambers, one floor below. Queen Alicent had taken up residence there after the death of King Viserys, when her son Aegon moved into Maegor's Holdfast with his own queen. Once inside, Cheese bound and gagged the Dowager Queen whilst Blood strangled her bedmaid. Then they settled down to wait, for they knew it was the custom of Queen Helaena to bring her children to see their grandmother every evening before bed.

Blind to her danger, the queen appeared as dusk was settling over the castle, accompanied by her three children. Jaehaerys and Jaehaera were six, Maelor two. As they entered the apartments, Helaena was holding his little hand and calling out her mother's name.

Blood barred the door and slew the queen's guardsman, whilst Cheese appeared to snatch up Maelor. "Scream and you all die," Blood told Her Grace.

Queen Helaena kept her calm, it is said. "Who are you?" she demanded of the two.

"Debt collectors," said Cheese. "An eye for an eye, a son for a son. We only want the one, t' square things. Won't hurt the rest o' you fine folks, not one lil' hair. Which one you want t' lose, Your Grace?"

Once she realized what he meant, Queen Helaena pleaded with the men to kill her instead.

"A wife's not a son," said Blood. "It has to be a boy."

Cheese warned the queen to make a choice soon, before Blood grew bored and raped her little girl. "Pick," he said, "or we kill them all."

On her knees, weeping, Helaena named her youngest, Maelor. Perhaps she thought the boy was too young to understand, or perhaps it was because the older boy, Jaehaerys, was King Aegon's firstborn son and heir, next in line to the Iron Throne.

"You hear that, little boy?" Cheese whispered to Maelor. "Your momma wants you dead." Then he gave Blood a grin, and the hulking swordsman slew Prince Jaehaerys, striking off the boy's head with a single blow. The queen began to scream.

Strange to say, the ratcatcher and the butcher were true to their word. They did no further harm to Queen Helaena or her surviving children, but rather fled with the prince's head in hand. A hue and cry went up, but Cheese knew the secret passageways as the guards did not, and the killers made their escape. Two days later, Blood was seized at the Gate of the Gods trying to leave King's Landing with the head of Prince Jaehaerys hidden in one of his saddle sacks. Under torture, he confessed that he had been taking it to Harrenhal, to collect his reward from Prince Daemon. He also gave up a description of the whore he claimed had hired them: an older woman, foreign by her talk, cloaked and hooded, very pale. The other harlots called her Misery.

After thirteen days of torment, Blood was at last allowed to die. Queen Alicent had commanded Larys Clubfoot to learn his true name, so that she might bathe in the blood of his wife and children, but our sources do not say if this occurred. Ser Luthor Largent and his gold cloaks searched the Street of Silk from top to bottom, and turned out and stripped every harlot in King's Landing, but no trace of Cheese or the White Worm was ever found. In his grief and fury, King Aegon II commanded that all the city's ratcatchers be taken out and hanged, and this was done. (Ser Otto Hightower brought one hundred cats into the Red Keep to take their place.)

Though Blood and Cheese had spared her life, Queen Helaena cannot be said to have survived that fateful dusk. Afterward she would not eat, nor bathe, nor leave her chambers, and she could no longer stand to look upon her son Maelor, knowing that she had named him to die. The king had no recourse but to take the boy from her and give him over to their mother, the Dowager Queen Alicent, to raise as if he were her own. Aegon and his wife slept separately thereafter, and Queen Helaena sank deeper and deeper into madness, whilst the king raged, and drank, and raged.

Philippine Laws / Bar Question on Criminal Law
November 01, 2022, 02:31:57 AM
FB post by Marlo Campanilla
POSSIBLE 2022 BAR QUESTION ON RA NO. 9165
BY Judge Marlo B. Campanilla

Dimas was arrested after a valid buy-bust operation. Macario, the policeman who acted as poseur-buyer, inventoried and photographed ten (10) sachets of shabu in the presence of a barangay tanod. The inventory was signed by Macario and the tanod, but Dimas refused to sign. As Macario was stricken with flu the day after, he was able to surrender the sachets to the PNP Crime Laboratory only after four (4) days. During pre-trial, the counsel de oficio of Dimas stipulated that the substance contained in the sachets examined by the forensic chemist is in fact methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu. Dimas was convicted of violating Section 5 of RA 9165. On appeal, Dimas questioned the admissibility of the evidence because Macario failed to observe the requisite "chain of custody" of the alleged "shabu" seized from him. On behalf of the State, the Solicitor General claimed that despite non-compliance with some requirements, the prosecution was able to show that the integrity of the substance was preserved. Moreover, even with some deviations from the requirements, the counsel of Dimas stipulated that the substance seized from Dimas was shabu so that the conviction should be affirmed. Rule on the contention of the State. (2016 Bar Exam)

The contention of the State is meritorious.

To establish the first link in the chain of custody, and that is the seizure of the drug from the accused, the prosecution must comply with Section 21 of R.A. No. 9165 as amended by R.A. No. 10640.

Under Section 21 of RA No. 9165 as amended, the inventory and photography of the seized items must be made in the presence of "at least three persons", to wit: (1) the accused; (2) elected public official, and (3) the media or representatives of National Prosecution Service. Compliance with the three-witnesses rule is mandatory. So as not to render the seizures of evidence void, two requisites must be present: (1) justifiable ground for not complying with the three-witnesses rule and (2) that the integrity and evidentiary value of the evidence had been preserved. (People vs. Claudel, G.R. No. 219852, April 3, 2019, Justice Caguioa)

In this case, Macario failed to comply with the three-witnesses rule since the inventory and photography of the seized item were made in the presence of two witnesses, the accused and barangay tanod, and Macario failed to explain a justifiable ground for the non-compliance of the rule. Hence, the seizure of evidence is void. (People vs. Lim, G.R. No. 231989, September 4, 2018)

However, Dimas belatedly questioned the admissibility of the evidence on appeal. Settled is the rule that the issue of non-compliance with Section 21 of R.A. No. 9165 cannot be raised for the first time on appeal. Hence, the defense of the accused mus be rejected. (People vs. Badilla, G.R. No. 218578, August 31, 2016)

Philippine Business News / Balikbayan Box One-Stop-Shop
November 01, 2022, 01:29:43 AM
News Release | Bureau of Customs (BOC) Spokesperson Arnaldo Dela Torre and Administrative Office Director Michael Fermin met with representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry - Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau (DTI-FTEB) to discuss measures against unscrupulous consolidators abroad.

Among the measures are the creation of a Balikbayan Box One-Stop-Shop and the drafting of an inter-agency agreement between the DTI, the Department of Migrant Workers, and the BOC to stop similar illicit activities.

The BOC recommended DTI-FTEB to review and amend the Philippine Shippers' Bureau (PSB) - Administrative Order No. 06 series of 2005; reinstitute the accreditation of deconsolidators with BOC, and file appropriate cases against errant freight forwarders.

Some foreign-based consolidators have defrauded several Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and abandoned their containers of balikbayan boxes in the Philippines.

Anonymous Diary Blog / Minahal Nga Mama
October 31, 2022, 07:41:03 PM
By PopDev

By the way Ma, naa koy problema.

𝗕𝗢𝗖, 𝗣𝗗𝗘𝗔, 𝗡𝗔𝗜𝗔-𝗜𝗔𝗗𝗜𝗧𝗚 𝗻𝗮𝗯 𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗯𝘂 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿

Another illegal drugs courier from South Africa attempting to bring in P92.24M worth of shabu was nabbed by the joint operatives of Bureau of Customs (BOC), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG) in NAIA Terminal 3, Pasay city on October 28, 2022.

At around 11 p.m., a female passenger, 40 years old, arrived in the country via flight EK 334, originating from Johannesburg, South Africa.

The authorities found the drugs hidden in a false compartment of the luggage the woman was carrying.

A field test was immediately made by the Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force (CAIDTF) and the substance tested positive for Shabu.

A joint inventory was conducted and found to contain 13,565 grams of shabu with an estimated value of P92,242,000.00.

Similarly, a Norwegian passenger was also arrested by the authorities yesterday for attempting to bring in 8.34 kilos estimated at P56.7 million.

The passenger and the shabu shall be turned over to the PDEA for the institution of inquest proceedings for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act (Republic Act 9165) in relation to Sections 118 (Prohibited Importation), 1113 (Goods Liable for Seizure and Forfeiture) and 1401 (Unlawful Importation) of the Republic Act 10863, otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).

The Bureau of Customs, under the leadership of Commissioner Yogi Filemon L. Ruiz and aligned with the directives of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., will remain vigilant against the entry of prohibited drugs and other contraband in all airports and seaports nationwide.

The Cebu-Bohol Bridge: MVP EYES a P90 billion expressway connecting Cebu with Bohol via Cordova!
A P90 billion toll road connecting Cordova in Cebu with Bohol has been proposed by Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC)
The governor has asked us to look at building a bridge between Cordova and Bohol. It is a P90 billion project. Financing is crucial because it is such a large project.
MPTC chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan said, "We still have to conduct a feasibility study since the tariffs will be so high that nobody will use it.".
According to Rodrigo Franco, president and CEO of MPTC, the company would seek ways to make the project viable.
An 8.5 km bridge linking Cebu City and Cordova, a municipality in Cebu province, was completed by Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corp., a subsidiary of MPTC.
Commercial operations began last April 30 and the bridge is expected to accommodate about 50,000 vehicles per day.
There are currently 6,776 vehicles registered in CCLEX on average. #risecebucity

#2858
ADVICE FOR AGES BETWEEN 65 AND DEATH ...by Khalil Harouny

1. It's time to use the money you saved up. Use it and enjoy it. Don't just keep it for those who may have no notion of the sacrifices you made to get it. Remember there is nothing more dangerous than a son or daughter-in-law with big ideas for your hard-earned capital. Warning: This is also a bad time for investments, even if it seems wonderful or fool-proof. They only bring problems and worries. This is a time for you to enjoy some peace and quiet.

2. Stop worrying about the financial situation of your children and grandchildren, and don't feel bad spending your money on yourself. You've taken care of them for many years, and you've taught them what you could. You gave them an education, food, shelter and support. The responsibility is now theirs to earn their own money.

3. Keep a healthy life, without great physical effort. Do moderate exercise (like walking every day), eat well and get your sleep. It's easy to become sick, and it gets harder to remain healthy. That is why you need to keep yourself in good shape and be aware of your medical and physical needs. Keep in touch with your doctor, do tests even when you're feeling well. Stay informed.

4. Always buy the best, most beautiful items for your significant other. The key goal is to enjoy your money with your partner. One day one of you will miss the other, and the money will not provide any comfort then, enjoy it together

5. Don't stress over the little things. Like paying a little extra on price quotes. You've already overcome so much in your life. You have good memories and bad ones, but the important thing is the present. Don't let the past drag you down and don't let the future frighten you. Feel good in the now. Small issues will soon be forgotten.

6. Regardless of age, always keep love alive. Love your partner, love life, love your family, love your neighbor and remember: "A man is not old as long as he has intelligence and affection."

7. Be proud, both inside and out. Don't stop going to your hair salon or barber, do your nails, go to the dermatologist and the dentist, keep your perfumes and creams well stocked. When you are well-maintained on the outside, it seeps in, making you feel proud and strong.

8. Don't lose sight of fashion trends for your age, but keep your own sense of style. There's nothing worse than an older person trying to wear the current fashion among youngsters. You've developed your own sense of what looks good on you – keep it and be proud of it. It's part of who you are.

9. ALWAYS stay up-to-date. Read newspapers, watch the news. Go online and read what people are saying. Make sure you have an active email account and try to use some of those social networks. You'll be surprised what old friends you'll meet. Keeping in touch with what is going on and with the people you know is important at any age.

10. Respect the younger generation and their opinions. They may not have the same ideals as you, but they are the future, and will take the world in their direction. Give advice, not criticism, and try to remind them that yesterday's wisdom still applies today.

11. Never use the phrase: "In my time." Your time is now. As long as you're alive, you are part of this time. You may have been younger, but you are still you now, having fun and enjoying life.

12. Some people embrace their golden years, while others become bitter and surly. Life is too short to waste your days on the latter. Spend your time with positive, cheerful people, it'll rub off on you and your days will seem that much better. Spending your time with bitter people will make you older and harder to be around.

13. Do not surrender to the temptation of living with your children or grandchildren (if you have a financial choice, that is). Sure, being surrounded by family sounds great, but we all need our privacy. They need theirs and you need yours. If you've lost your partner (our deepest condolences), then find a person to move in with you and help out. Even then, do so only if you feel you really need the help or do not want to live alone.

14. Don't abandon your hobbies. If you don't have any, make new ones. You can travel, hike, cook, read, dance. You can adopt a cat or a dog, grow a garden, play cards, checkers, chess, dominoes, golf. You can paint, volunteer or just collect certain items. Find something you like and spend some real time having fun with it.

15. Even if you don't feel like it, try to accept invitations. Baptisms, graduations, birthdays, weddings, conferences. Try to go. Get out of the house, meet people you haven't seen in a while, experience something new (or something old). But don't get upset when you're not invited. Some events are limited by resources, and not everyone can be hosted. The important thing is to leave the house from time to time. Go to museums, go walk through a field. Get out there.

16. Be a conversationalist. Talk less and listen more. Some people go on and on about the past, not caring if their listeners are really interested. That's a great way of reducing their desire to speak with you. Listen first and answer questions, but don't go off into long stories unless asked to. Speak in courteous tones and try not to complain or criticize too much unless you really need to. Try to accept situations as they are. Everyone is going through the same things, and people have a low tolerance for hearing complaints. Always find some good things to say as well.

17. Pain and discomfort go hand in hand with getting older. Try not to dwell on them but accept them as a part of the cycle of life we're all going through. Try to minimize them in your mind. They are not who you are, they are something that life added to you. If they become your entire focus, you lose sight of the person you used to be.

18. If you've been offended by someone – forgive them. If you've offended someone - apologize. Don't drag around resentment with you. It only serves to make you sad and bitter. It doesn't matter who was right. Someone once said: "Holding a grudge is like taking poison and expecting the other person to die." Don't take that poison. Forgive, forget and move on with your life.

19. If you have a strong belief, savor it. But don't waste your time trying to convince others. They will make their own choices no matter what you tell them, and it will only bring you frustration. Live your faith and set an example. Live true to your beliefs and let that memory sway them.

20. Laugh. Laugh A LOT. Laugh at everything. Remember, you are one of the lucky ones. You managed to have a life, a long one. Many never get to this age, never get to experience a full life. But you did. So what's not to laugh about? Find the humor in your situation.

21. Take no notice of what others say about you and even less notice of what they might be thinking. They'll do it anyway, and you should have pride in yourself and what you've achieved. Let them talk and don't worry. They have no idea about your history, your memories and the life you've lived so far. There's still much to be written, so get busy writing and don't waste time thinking about what others might think. Now is the time to be at rest, at peace and as happy as you can be!

Philippine Daily News / Samal - Davao Bridge

FIGHT FOR REALIGNMENT

LOOK: Environment advocates said on Friday, October 28 that they will continue to fight for the realignment of the Samal Island - Davao City (SIDC) Connector project or the Davao-Samal Bridge.

During a press conference at the Ateneo de Davao University, the Save Samal Reefs Alliance emphasized they do not oppose the construction of the bridge but realignment is needed to save the thriving 100-year-old Paradise Reef in the Island Garden City of Samal.

"Maapektuhan talaga ang corals diyan. Do you know how many years it takes for corals to become dense or to build up? It will take many years only for it to be destroyed in a few months," said Dr. Fred Medina, Commissioner of the Philippine Commission on Sports Scuba Diving.

More details to follow.

Philippine Provinces / Dili Babag ang Kapobrehon

DILI BABAG ANG KAPOBRE by LGU Toledo

Philippine Government / On Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama
October 27, 2022, 06:51:46 PM
By Elias Baquero
Good morning ladies and gentlemen! Today is Thursday, October 27, 2022.
At 11:15 am, Cebu City Mayor Michael "Atty. Mike" Rama called me and said that he has instructed his appointment secretary Juvy Go Montecillo to set a schedule for a meeting between us and the representative of NRG Australia, a foreign investor which is willing to invest in billions of dollars in Cebu City, period.
Mayor Rama, at that time, was bound for the Kapihan sa Sugbo of City Councilor Jun Alcover at Fort San Pedro.
In the same call, Rama, the chief executive, reiterated his call of support from the people from all walks of life, as his programs are not only for the present dispensation, but for the next generations to come.
I agree with him. Let us support a sitting leader, because their success is for the greater of the greater majority. And their failure in governance will boomerang on us.
Mayor Mike reminded me that I was the one who convinced him to join a cooperative as I am one of the directors of Cebu City Cooperative Development Council (CCCDC) for more than a decade now. He said he joined Newscoop because he trust my leadership as a coop leader. And he may soon add his assets on it.
Mayor Mike also reminded me that during the darkest days of his life where he was a victim of black propaganda, I was among those who were in his side.
Mayor Mike urged me not to make conclusion on his administration without verifying the truth, being a Christian. He said those who believe in God are for God, and those who work with evil are evil.
He said that he told prominent law professor Atty. Josephus B. Jimenez that one time, they conducted strategic planning until 4:00 am and came up with good decisions.

Rape suspect arrested in PRO7's Oplan "Huli-days" and CIDG's Oplan Pagtugis

The Joint operation of CIDG Cebu City Field Unit (Lead), CMFC, CCPO, and RIU 7 resulted to the arrest of 41 year-old from Brgy. Pahina Central, cebu City. The suspect has a standing warrant of arrest  for Violation of RA 8353 also known as the ANTI-RAPE LAW OF 1997. The Arrest Warrant was issued by HON. JOSE NATHANIEL SALAZAR ANDAL, Presiding Judge of RTC, Branch 24, Cebu City, dated October 25, 2022, and NO BAIL was recommended.

The suspect is tagged as the Top # 5 Most Wanted Person (Provincial Level) in relation to CIDG OPLAN PAGTUGIS and PRO 7 OPLAN "HULI-DAYS".

"We will be more relentless in pursuing these wanted persons in order to bring them to the courts  for justice to be served. We will continuously update the list of wanted persons in regional and provincial levels," says P/BGen. Roderick Augustus Alba, PRO7 Regional Director.

CIDG's Oplan Pagtugis and PRO7's Oplan "Huli-days" are anchored in the 4Cs Strategic Framework of General Alba - Connectivity, Critical Thinking, Capability Enhancement and Cleansing. All of these are aligned with "MKK=K" or "Malasakit, Kaayusan, Kapayapaan tungo sa Kaunlaran" peace and security framework and Revitalized KASIMBAYANAN Program of the Chief, Philippine National Police.

Program Manager Rothwel Pulido meanwhile discussed the LTIA guidelines and presented the list of barangays to be subjected to field validation.

Present were Atty. Rustom Presas Jr. (DOJ), Atty. Nel Ediza (Provincial Legal Office), Rondey Rodriguez and Lito Layao (LNB Cebu Chapter), Atty. Mark Gregory Avila, Atty. Jerby Juarez and Atty. Christian Arenajo (YLAC).

LTIA was established in 1997 as a means to institutionalize a system of granting economic benefits and other incentives to the Lupong Tagapamayapa that demonstrates exemplary performance in settling disputes at the barangay level.

Poems and Poets / You Walk Your Last by Lucell Larawan
October 26, 2022, 08:54:14 AM
YOU WALK YOUR LAST: TRIBUTE TO NONG FLOR EVASCO
BY LUCELL LARAWAN

You walk your last. Your last.
News spread on the wings of the wind, a reluctant wind I did
       not expect.
Your morning walk has ended. Finally ended.
I say this because I spent routine walks with you
At the Plaza Rizal and the City Hall.
I will no longer walk with you there
And we, your physically active friends, now await you there
Yet blinded by your stark absence.
Suddenly, my world turns somber, skies leaden.
In my journeys, I will no longer see your visage radiating
       with goodness and care.
I will miss your usual retort, "Good morning, Doy"
Every time I greeted you with joggers and walkers passing by.
I will miss your counsels that brightens my valleys
As I shared my alienation and attempt to connect with my tribe.
You asked me to come and see your farm in San Miguel
        and Catigbian
Perhaps because you wanted to breathe the smell of rice fields
        and trees.
One day, you could not fill up the certificate of candidacy
        as provincial councilor
So you asked me to do it for you and I gladly do it.
You may have backed out from that plan, but even
        without  becoming that leader
You are already a Hall of Fame in our hearts.
You drafted a letter so you can work as a consultant of the
        new governor.
Yet God has other plans.
Months ago, you lost weight and asked me to lunch out at the
    Tuslob-Buwa restaurant.
Did you do it to show me how your health had declined and
         said it was allergy?
If I knew it was our last dine out, I could have told you the
         worst thing that can happen
Is paradise for us who believe in the Lord's redemption.
Your morning walk has ended.
Not only in the usual Plaza Rizal and the City Hall
But in every landscape where we wish you are around.
Your family and friends are speechless in disbelief
At the banging of that final door through which no pilgrim
        or morning walker returns.
I send my soul to teachers, principals and your fellow
        district supervisors
As they reflect upon their Cornelius in the book of Acts
Whom an angel said his prayers and gifts to the poor have
        come up to God.
To us you are not just Cornelius; you are sheep whom the Lord
         will say,
"Come... inherit the kingdom. For I was hungry, and you fed me..."
You walk your last. Your last.
Your day is done; we confess it in teary voices and say thank you
Thank you for illuminating our lives.
Thank you for your fatherly counsels and encouragement.
Thank you our Cornelius, thank you our heaven-sent cheerful giver.
We sculpt your portrait in our hearts.

Showbiz & Celebrity / Adidas Departs from Kanye West
October 26, 2022, 02:26:47 AM
Adidas is terminating its partnership with Kanye West immediately, the sporting-goods maker said on Tuesday, reacting to a rash of offensive behavior from the American rapper and designer.

"Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech," the German company said.

Ending the partnership and the production of Yeezy-branded products, as well as stopping all payments to Ye and his companies, will "have a short-term negative impact" of up to $250 million on Adidas' net income this year, the company said, partially as the Christmas quarter tends to see greater demand.  Read more at our link in bio

Philippine History / Liwanag at Itim
October 26, 2022, 02:01:14 AM

Isa siyang guro, nobelista, tagasalin, mang-aawit, at mananaliksik.

Philippine History / 165th Birthday of Juan Luna
October 26, 2022, 01:43:59 AM
On the last full week of this month, the nation remembers the famed painter Juan Luna on his 165th birth anniversary. His place in Philippine history is secure, contributing his genius to the Filipino reformists' assertion that all races are equal and therefore deserving of freedom and basic human rights. Although his reputation was tarnished by the murder of his wife and mother-in-law, he continued using his influence, first in bringing his brother Antonio out of jail and secondly as part of the diplomatic corps of the nascent Philippine Republic.

While his comparatively short but meaningful life is worth revisiting, there is one important detail that needs to be publicly settled: when exactly was he born?

There are three possible dates. Learn more about them in this article: https://nhcp.gov.ph/a-clarification-on-juan-lunas-birthdate/

DOT: PBBM TO MAKE MASK-WEARING INDOORS VOLUNTARY

In a press briefing in Malacañang on Tuesday, Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. may issue an executive order making mask-wearing indoors also voluntary.

On September 12, 2022, Marcos Jr. signed an executive order allowing the voluntary wearing of masks outdoors, given that individuals will still observe public health standards amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wearing of face mask is only voluntary in "open spaces and non-crowded outdoor areas with good ventilation," according to the memorandum. (Photos by KJ Rosales/The Philippine STAR)
