The Eucharist Is Mandated for Salvation, Mo Kalawat Ta Tanan...

14 When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. 15 And he said to them, "I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. 16 For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God." 17 After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, "take this and divide it among you. 18 For I tell you I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes."19 And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is My body given for you; do this in remembrance of me. " 20 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you."

St. Paul teaches us to overcome evil with Good...

"If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

St. Paul talks about loving, positional rank does not matter...

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.Do not be conceited.

St. Paul writes on the Doxology,

Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
      How unsearchable his judgments,
and his paths beyond tracing out!
"Who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counselor?"
"Who has ever given to God,
      that God should repay him?"
For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things.
To Him be the glory forever! Amen.

The Gentiles are "Adopted Wild Olive Branches", The Jews are "Cut-Off Natural Branches"...

If some of the branches have been broken off, and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root, do not boast over those branches. If you do, consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you. You will say then, "Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in." Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but be afraid. For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.

Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off. And if they do not persist in unbelief, they will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. After all, if you were cut out of an olive tree that is wild by nature, and contrary to nature were grafted into a cultivated olive tree, how much more readily will these, the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree!

The Gentiles are Saved, Israel are Unbelieving Branches...

St. Paul writes,

Again I ask: Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all! Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious. But if their transgression means riches for the world, and their loss means riches for the Gentiles, how much greater riches will their fullness bring!

I am talking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles, I make much of my ministry in the hope that I may somehow arouse my own people to envy and save some of them. For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?

God's Love for Israel...The Remnant of Israel

I ask then: Did God reject his people? By no means! I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin. God did not reject his people, whom he foreknew. Don't you know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijahâ€"how he appealed to God against Israel: "Lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars; I am the only one left, and they are trying to kill me" ? And what was God's answer to him? "I have reserved for myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal." So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.

What then? What Israel sought so earnestly it did not obtain, but the elect did. The others were hardened, as it is written:
"God gave them a spirit of stupor,
eyes so that they could not see
and ears so that they could not hear,
to this very day."And David says:
"May their table become a snare and a trap,
a stumbling block and a retribution for them.
May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see,
and their backs be bent forever."

Israel Does Not Believe...

But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our message?" Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ. But I ask: Did they not hear? Of course they did:
"Their voice has gone out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world."Again I ask: Did Israel not understand? First, Moses says,
  "I will make you envious by those who are not a nation;
I will make you angry by a nation that has no understanding."And Isaiah boldly says,
  "I was found by those who did not seek me;
I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me." But concerning Israel he says,
"All day long I have held out my hands
to a disobedient and obstinate people.
"

Delight In The Gospel of Christ , The Good News!

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"

For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in Him will never be put to shame." For there is no difference between Jew and Gentileâ€"the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on Him, for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

Inspiration & Hope / A Salesian Way of the Cross
October 24, 2010, 03:13:46 PM
Based on the Writing of St. Francis de Sales Translated and somewhat amplified by The Most Rev. Lewis S. Fiorelli, O.S.F.S, Superior General of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales.

First Station -- Jesus Is Condemned To Death
The Cross is from God, but it is only "cross" if we do not join ourselves to it; for when we are strongly resolved to desire the cross which God gives to us then it is no longer a "cross" at all. If it is from God, why do we not desire it?

Second Station -- Jesus Is Given His Cross
The Cross has been sanctified because it was the instrument which Jesus used for our Redemption. All Christians who aspire to heaven must take up the cross of the Lord and follow him. This will mean walking in his steps, imitating his virtues and having but one purpose and goal: his.

Third Station -- Jesus Falls The First Time
Notice the infinite goodness of the Savior who wished to die the death of men and women so as to enable us to live according to the original expectation for Adam, that is, to live God's life. But to better grasp the humility of Our Lord, listen to what St. Paul writes: "Though he was God's Son, he emptied himself." (Phil. 2:6-7 freely) O, God, but it is wondrous that the Eternal Word should empty himself and set aside his proper glory for his creatures who measure up so poorly to his love!

Fourth Station -- Jesus Meets His Mother
The Mother of Christ seeks out her Son who is the life of her life. And why does she seek him out? To be ever near him, her Son and her God.

Fifth Station -- Simon Of Cyrene Helps Jesus
The evangelists do not name the majority of people who figure in the Passion. But they do recall the name of Simon who helps our Lord carry his cross. The cross is the royal gate by which we enter the temple of holiness. Love this altogether precious cross; look upon it with eyes of love.

Sixth Station -- Veronica Cleanses The Face of Jesus
I reflect upon the manner in which the Lord suffers. In his heart, he suffers willingly, with patience and love. The cross is a remedy capable of healing all our evils.

Seventh Station -- Jesus Falls The Second Time
He suffers in order to witness to his love for us. O, how great is his love! Lord, I do not know if I have any love at all, but if I do, it is so little that it is content to shed a single tear; and it believes itself perfected when it utters a few sighs. And yet, O Good God, how much I insist and protest that I want to love you and give you my entire heart!

Eighth Station -- Jesus Meets The Women Of Jerusalem
Christ has made it clear that he loves our tears when they are caused by love. If we have tears, let us cry them altogether simply, because we certainly could not have a more worthy subject over which to cry.

Ninth Station -- Jesus Falls The Third Time
My iniquity is indeed great. O, Lord, who will deliver me from this labyrinth if not you? We would have reason to fear if we relied on our own strength. For he is for us.

Tenth Station -- Jesus Is Stripped Of His Clothing
Christ stripped teaches us what we must do to please him: strip our hearts of all sorts of unworthy affections and pretenses, no longer loving them but desiring nothing other than him.

Eleventh Station -- Jesus Is Nailed To The Cross
The Son of God is nailed to the Cross. What puts him there? Certainly it is love. Well, since it is certain that he died for us the least we ought to do for him is to live from love. He who wants to kiss Christ must mount his cross and be wounded by the thorns of his crown.

Twelfth Station -- Jesus Dies On The Cross
Our Lord chose the death of the Cross to witness to his Love. There he offered himself in love, unto love, by love and of love.

Thirteenth Station -- Jesus Is Taken Down From The Cross
Love draws all the pains, torments, sufferings, sorrows, wounds, passion, Cross of our Lord into the heart of his holy Mother. The sword of death which cut through the body of this well-beloved Son also cut through the heart of this all loving Mother.

Fourteenth Station -- Jesus Is Placed In The Tomb
Love and death co-penetrate one another in the Savior's passion. We must die to every other love in order to live from Jesus' love, so that we may not die eternally.

Fifteenth Station -- The Resurrection Of Jesus
That we may live in your eternal love, O Savior of our souls, we sing eternally, "Live, Jesus! Jesus is the one I love! Live, Jesus, you whom I love. I love Jesus who lives and reigns forever and ever. Amen."

Bible Study / Prayer for Aborted Babies
October 24, 2010, 03:08:46 PM
Heavenly Father,
Thou hast given us the gift of freedom
to love and to follow in Thy ways and commands.
Some parents choose to abuse this freedom
by destroying the gift of life
which Thou hast given to their offspring.
Please forgive those who destroy human life
by aborting their unborn babies.
Give these unborn children the opportunity
to enjoy Thee for all eternity,
if it according to Thy ordinance.
Assist me in being one in solidarity with Thy little ones
by taking to heart the words of Thy Son,
"whatever you did for one of these least brothers of Mine,
you did for Me."
(Matthew. 25:40)
Therefore, allow me today, Father,
to adopt spiritually an unborn child
and to offer my prayers, works,
joys and sufferings for that little one,
so that child will be able to be born and live
for Thy greater honor and glory.
We pray this in Jesus' name,
in union with the Holy Spirit one God forever and ever.

Amen.

My good Jesus,
I believe with a firm and lively faith
that in this adorable sacrament are Thy body and blood,
soul and divinity.
I believe that in this consecrated Host
I shall receive that same body
which was born of the most pure Virgin Mary in Bethlehem,
which suffered so many pains and torments for love of me
on the Way of the Cross and on Calvary,
and which rose gloriously the third day from the dead.
I believe that I shall receive God Himself.

I adore Thee, O my God, as my Creator,
my Preserver, my Redeemer, and my Judge,
truly present in the Holy Eucharist.

Divine Host, I adore Thee
with the angels who fill the sanctuary
and hover over the tabernacle
as they hovered over the cave of Bethlehem in the Holy
Night;
I adore Thee, my God,
with the Blessed Virgin,
and in union with all the saints.

Lord and Master of the universe,
Who hast fixed Thy dwelling amongst men,
I adore Thee with profound gratitude.
O my Jesus, bless this temple wherein Thou residest,
but still more the heart that I offer Thee
as a living abode and place of rest.
Deign ever to inhabit it by Thy grace and Thy love,
and may my sins never banish Thee from it! Lord,
I have a firm faith,
but do Thou strengthen my faith,
and animate it so that it may produce in my soul
deeper sentiments of adoration and love.

Good Lord, increase my faith that I may love Thee more, and be more generous in my sacrifices for love of Thee and for the love of my neighbours.

Amen.

We believe in God, the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
and all that is seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he was born of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered, died, and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in fulfillment of the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead,
and His kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son
he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come.

Amen.

Inspiration & Hope / SIN
October 24, 2010, 02:47:12 PM

The Seven Deadly Sins

We should not be satisfied merely to keep the commandments of God, but should always be ready to do good deeds, even when they are not commanded. The commandments of God state the minimum requirements for salvation. They should be kept not merely according to the letter, but also according to the spirit, which obliges us to strive for greater perfection.

Actual sin is any willful thought, desire, word, action or ommission forbidden by the law of God.

   1. PRIDE: Unrestrained appreciation of our own worth.
   2. GREED: Immoderate desire for earthly goods.
   3. LUST: Hankering for impure pleasures.
   4. ANGER: Inordinate desire for revenge.
   5. GLUTTONY: Unrestrained use of food and drink.
   6. ENVY: Sorrow over another's good fortune.
   7. SLOTH: Laxity in keeping the Faith and the practice of virtue, due to the effort involved.

THE FOUR SINS CRYING TO HEAVEN FOR VENGEANCE

   1. Willful murder (including abortion)
   2. The sin of Sodom.
   3. Oppression of the poor.
   4. Defrauding laborers of their wages.

THE SIX SINS AGAINST THE HOLY SPIRIT

   1. Presumption of God's mercy.
   2. Despair.
   3. Impugning the known truth.
   4. Envy at another's spiritual good.
   5. Obstinacy in sin.
   6. Final impenitence.

NINE WAYS OF BEING ACCESSORY TO ANOTHER'S SIN

   1. By counsel.
   2. By command.
   3. By consent.
   4. By provocation.
   5. By praise or flattery.
   6. By concealment.
   7. By partaking.
   8. By silence.
   9. By defense of the ill done

Inspiration & Hope / A Guide for Confession
October 24, 2010, 02:32:30 PM
A Guide for Confession

The basic requirement for a good confession is to have the intention of returning to God like the "prodigal son" and to acknowledge our sins with true sorrow before the priest.

Sin in my Life

Modern society has lost a sense of sin. As a Catholic follower of Christ, I must make an effort to recognize sin in my daily actions, words and omissions.

The Gospels show how important is the forgiveness of our sins. Lives of saints prove that the person who grows in holiness has a stronger sense of sin, sorrow for sins, and a need for the Sacrament of Penance or Confession.

The Differences in Sins

As a result of Original Sin, human nature is weakened. Baptism, by imparting the life of Christ's grace, takes away Original Sin, and turns us back toward God. The consequences of this weakness and the inclination to evil persist, and we often commit personal or actual sin.

Actual sin is sin which people commit. There are two kinds of actual sin, mortal and venial.

Mortal sin is a deadly offense against God, so horrible that it destroys the life of grace in the soul. Three simultaneous conditions must be fulfilled for a mortal sin: 1) the act must be something very serious; 2) the person must have sufficient understanding of what is being done; 3) the person must have sufficient freedom of the will.

Remember

If you need helpâ€"especially if you have been away for some timeâ€"simply ask the priest and he will help you by "walking" you through the steps to make a good confession.

Before Confession

Be truly sorry for your sins. The essential act of Penance, on the part of the penitent, is contrition, a clear and decisive rejection of the sin committed, together with a resolution not to commit it again, out of the love one has for God and which is reborn with repentance. The resolution to avoid committing these sins in the future (amendment) is a sure sign that your sorrow is genuine and authentic. This does not mean that a promise never to fall again into sin is necessary. A resolution to try to avoid the near occasions of sin suffices for true repentance. God's grace in cooperation with the intention to rectify your life will give you the strength to resist and overcome temptation in the future.

Examination of Conscience

Before going to Confession you should make a review of mortal and venial sins since your last sacramental confession, and should express sorrow for sins, hatred for sins and a firm resolution not to sin again.

A helpful pattern for examination of conscience is to review the Commandments of God and the Precepts of the Church:

  1. Have God and the pursuit of sanctity in Christ been the goal of my life? Have I denied my faith? Have I placed my trust in false teachings or substitutes for God? Did I despair of God's mercy?
  2. Have I avoided the profane use of God's name in my speech? Have I broken a solemn vow or promise?
  3. Have I honored every Sunday by avoiding unnecessary work, celebrating the Mass (also holydays)? Was I inattentive at, or unnecessarily late for Mass, or did I leave early? Have I neglected prayer for a long time?
  4. Have I shown Christlike respect to parents, spouse, and family members, legitimate authorities? Have I been attentive to the religious education and formation of my children?
  5. Have I cared for the bodily health and safety of myself and all others? Did I abuse drugs or alcohol? Have I supported in any way abortion, "mercy killing," or suicide?
  6. Was I impatient, angry, envious, proud, jealous, revengeful, lazy? Have I forgiven others?
  7. Have I been just in my responsibilities to employer and employees? Have I discriminated against others because of race or other reasons?
  8. Have I been chaste in thought and word? Have I used sex only within marriage and while open to procreating life? Have I given myself sexual gratification? Did I deliberately look at impure TV, pictures, reading?
  9. Have I stolen anything from another, from my employer, from government? If so, am I ready to repay it? Did I fulfill my contracts? Did I rashly gamble, depriving my family of necessities?
 10. Have I spoken ill of any other person? Have I always told the truth? Have I kept secrets and confidences?
 11. Have I permitted sexual thoughts about someone to whom I am not married?
 12. Have I desired what belongs to other people? Have I wished ill on another?
 13. Have I been faithful to sacramental living (Holy Communion and Penance)?
 14. Have I helped make my parish community stronger and holier? Have I contributed to the support of the Church?
 15. Have I done penance by abstaining and fasting on obligatory days? Have I fasted before receiving communion?
 16. Have I been mindful of the poor? Do I accept God's will for me?

During Confession

After examining your conscience and telling God of your sorrow, go into the confessional. You may kneel at the screen or sit to talk face-to-face with the priest.

Begin your confession with the sign of the cross, "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. My last confession was _________ weeks (months, years) ago."

The priest may read a passage from holy Scripture.

Say the sins that you remember. Start with the one(s) that is most difficult to say. (In order to make a good confession the faithful must confess all mortal sins, according to kind and number.) After confessing all the sins you remember since your last good confession, you may conclude by saying, "I am sorry for these and all the sins of my past life."

Listen to the words of the priest. He will assign you some penance. Doing the penance will diminish the temporal punishment due to sins already forgiven. When invited, express some prayer of sorrow or Act of Contrition such as:

   An Act of Contrition

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended you and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell. But most of all because I have offended you, my God, who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve with the help of your grace, to confess my sins, to do penance and to amend my life. Amen.

At the End of Confession

Listen to the words of absolution, the sacramental forgiveness of the Church through the ordained priest.

As you listen to the words of forgiveness you may make the sign of the cross with the priest. If he closes by saying, "Give thanks to the Lord for He is good," answer, "For His mercy endures forever."

After Confession

Give thanks to God for forgiving you again. If you recall some serious sin you forgot to tell, rest assured that it has been forgiven with the others, but be sure to confess it in your next Confession.

Do your assigned Penance.

Resolve to return to the Sacrament of Reconciliation often. We Catholics are fortunate to have the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It is the ordinary way for us to have our sins forgiven. This sacrament is a powerful help to get rid of our weaknesses, grow in holiness, and lead a balanced and virtuous life.

The Last Things

As to the Last Things. Cornerstone of the Church's doctrinal edifice is eschatology, the doctrine of the end of things. Man came from God, and to God he will return. The doctrine of the last things is what gives the deepest supernatural meaning to the history of the world, which is ultimately the history of salvation to the glory of God.

At the last judgment Christ will finally reveal himself as the head of the Church, as the redeemer and the victor over death and hell, and will lay his kingdom at his Father's feet.

Naturally the position of Christ and his Church in eschatology has not always been proclaimed with the same emphasis at all times and in every individual decree. Almost always the Church's decrees are aimed at heresies which arise and these mostly concern the last things as they affect individuals. In this way the Church's magisterium lays no claim to systematize the inner structure.

In its dealing with heresy concerning the last things the Church has stressed three main fundamental truths: 1. The nature of the direct vision of God in the next world which is essentially different from the indirect knowledge of God in this world. 2. The dignity of the human body and with it the whole of material creation as opposed to that form of dualism in which matter stems from the principle of evil and is thus incapable of redemption or supernatural life. Throughout the Early and Middle Ages the Church had to engage in this struggle for the dignity and value of the human body and at the same time to fight for the basic facts of a true anthropology.

The Church Teaches: Souls which depart this life without sin or punishment due to sin, go the eternal happiness. The happiness of heaven consist in the direct vision of God. For this vision, an end which is not owed to man, man needs the Light of Glory.

The soul which has temporal punishment still due goes to purgatory. The faithful can help the holy souls by prayer and good works. Souls which depart this life in grievous sin go to hell. Hell is eternal. For souls burdened with original sin alone it consists of the loss of the Beatific Vision, but for those in actual sin there are also the torments of hell.

At the end of time souls are re-united with their risen bodies following Christ's example. Christ will then pronounce the last judgment and hand over his kingdom to the Father.

Bartimaeus

He was saved because of his faith. His joyous exultation in the Christ was his salvation....

46 And they came to Jericho. And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent.

But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart. Get up; he is calling you.” 50 And throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. 51 And Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” And the blind man said to him, “LORD, let me recover my sight.”

52 And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.

Job's faith is the prototype of the kind of faith and trust Christians are to have in God. An unwavering faith, a faith that will be tested , time and time again by the devil (may God rebuke him) in order to falter the faith. Job, despite his trials and tribulations, does not suffer his faith in God. Because he stood the test, and because his faith did not waver, God rewarded him thousand fold.

The story of Job is the thesis of the foundation of faith in The Almighty. His story illustrates to us the sincerity of God's Love and Joy to those who Trust in Him.

The Story of Job illustrates the Fatherhood of God.

Nicodemus

Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” 3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again  he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.  7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You  must be born again.’ 8 The wind  blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

9 Nicodemus said to him, “How can these things be?” 10 Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things? 11 Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you  do not receive our testimony. 12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man.  14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.

16 “For God so loved the world,  that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. 21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”

Disbelief, error, sin, indifference and the lot is defeated by the Words of Christ. His Truth lighted the way....

The Samaritan Woman by the well...

Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John 2 (although Jesus himself did not baptize, but only his disciples), 3 he left Judea and departed again for Galilee. 4 And he had to pass through Samaria. 5 So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob's well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour. [1]

7 A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” 8 (For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.) 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) 10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” 11 The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.” 13 Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” 15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.”

16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” 17 The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband’; 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.” 19 The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.” 21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” 25 The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” 26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you Am He.”

27 Just then his disciples came back. They marveled that he was talking with a woman, but no one said, “What do you seek?” or, “Why are you talking with her?” 28 So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?” 30 They went out of the town and were coming to him.

31 Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” 32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” 33 So the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?” 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. 36 Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. 37 For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”

39 Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. 41 And many more believed because of his word. 42 They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.”

Refrain:
We come to share our story,
we come to break the bread,
we come to know our rising
from the dead.

1. We come as your people,
we come as your own,
united with each other,
love finds a home.

2. We are called to heal the broken,
to be hope for the poor;
we are called to feed
the hungry at our door.

3. Bread of life and cup of promise,
in this meal we all are one.
In our dying and our rising,
may your kingdom come.

4. You will lead and we shall follow,
you will be the breath of life;
living water,
we are thirsting for your light.

5. We will live and sing your praises,
"Alleluia" is our song.
May we live in love and peace
our whole life long.

The Clod & the Pebble
by William  Blake

Love seeketh not Itself to please,
Nor for itself hath any care;
But for another gives its ease,
And builds a Heaven in Hell's despair.

So sang a little Clod of Clay,
   Trodden with the cattle's feet;
But a Pebble of the brook,
   Warbled out these metres meet.

Love seeketh only Self to please,
To bind another to It's delight:
Joys in another's loss of ease,
And builds a Hell in Heavens despite.

'Love at first sight,' some say, misnaming
        Discovery of twinned helplessness

But friendship at first sight?  This also

even the best of us are taken before our prime.
and you are one of the 'bests'.
yes, you are, robert.

Intelligence, beauty, kind heartedness, merciful soul.

I told you once, robert, that there is no such thing as a 'final end',
death, tho filled with sting, is not the end, never is,
for when we die, there is the release of the eternity within us,
and shall be born again to renewal,

i trust, my sweet kind hearted beautiful and loving friend, that you have found that peace you so longed for.

Death is not the end,

If Anybody's Friend Be Dead

If anybody's friend be dead,
It 's sharpest of the theme
The thinking how they walked alive,
At such and such a time.

Their costume, of a Sunday,
Some manner of the hair, --
A prank nobody knew but them,
Lost, in the sepulchre.

How warm they were on such a day:
You almost feel the date,
So short way off it seems; and now,
They 're centuries from that.

How pleased they were at what you said;
You try to touch the smile,
And dip your fingers in the frost:
When was it, can you tell,

You asked the company to tea,
Acquaintance, just a few,
And chatted close with this grand thing
That don't remember you?

Past bows and invitations,
Past interview, and vow,
Past what ourselves can estimate, --
That makes the quick of woe!

why have you gone , why have you gone to the land where i cannot follow?
my heart still aches, robert, hurts to the coming realization of this finality
let me cry with you, let me embrace you again, my friend
if tears could be shed, it would, for i have cried enough, tears fallen enough

the question that remains, that continues to haunt me, is why
why?
i have missed you, our conversations, i have missed my best friend
i miss your voice, now when i need you most, you who i have divulged the feelings of the heart,
have you forsaken me?
why?

someday, robert, someday i shall visit you

Dr. Castillo might want to clarify to the lay population that 'diabetes' involves a plethora of types, some of which hold no bearing to size of person, let alone breast shape, size.

In cases of Diabetes Mellitus; there are 2 types:
1. IDDM (insulin dependent diabetes mellitus)--which is a total lack of pancreatic b-cells, which is a complete lack of insulin, is a genetic case (chromosomal association in the level of HLA-DQ). Size, shape of person does not matter. One can be extremely athletic and toned, and still have this condition.
2. NIDDM (Non insulin dependent diabetes mellitus)-- dependent on size, and family history is a strong predictor

In cases of Diabetes Insipidus; there again are 2 types:
1. Central DI
2. Nephrogenic DI

In all these cases of DI, size is not a factor. Because DI is dependent on the kidney's ability to respond to ADH (anti-diuretic hormone; vasopressin) or not.

i feel like this article holds a bit of prejudice on the vivacious women with natural endowments. In anycase, if a woman who is in danger of hyperglycemia & fears of pre-diabetes, just ask the physician to prescribe oral hypoglycemics (metformin, sulfonylureas) as prophylaxis. Let her 'totoy' be in peace, am sure, it is very much appreciated by her lover.

Inspiration & Hope / Bishop Trautman Prays and Inspires
October 22, 2010, 07:54:42 AM

Happy Monday everyone. Well, it seems that summer has come to an end in an abrupt fashion here in Chicago. Thunderstorms roared through during the night and high winds have brought us a chill. Farewell to a warm and wonderful September 2009.

Yesterday morning I had the privilege to play at a Mass at the gathering of the Diocesan Fiscal Management Conference. It was held in a ballroom of the Hyatt here in downtown Chicago. Bishop Donald Trautman (pictured above), of the diocese of Erie, was the celebrant. I have heard Bishop Trautman speak on many occasions, but was never present when he was the celebrant at Mass. Bishop Trautman has always inspired me in his talks. He urges the Church to celebrate Mass well; to participate fully, consciously, and actively. He has been a harsh critic of some of the newly translated texts of the Missale Romanum, arguing that some are very difficult to proclaim well and equallyâ€"or moreâ€"difficult for the hearer to comprehend. He has come under biting criticism from many, some going as far as accusing him of being unfaithful to the Church, or of being a dissenter. Yet he has held his ground, calling those working on these texts to make them more intelligible for the proclaimer and the listener.

I can tell you one thing. Bishop Trautman prays the prayers of the Mass in a deliberate, beautiful, and inspiring manner. He sticks to every word in the Sacramentary and conveys the meaning in a way that is simple and straightforward. I found myself listening to the words of the familiar Eucharistic Prayer with fresh ears because Bishop Trautman so obviously deeply believed what he was praying. It was absolutely inspiring. All the musicians who ministered at this Mass commented in the same fashion. Here was a man, ordained for 47 years, who was praying the Mass as if it were the first time; as if he were in love with the words and the meaning that those words conveyed. Folks, it was a very powerful moment for me. This bishop is an inspiration to priests everywhere. Too often, the praying of these texts seems mechanical and routine. This is a sad reality in the church. When the new translation is permitted for proclamation, priests will need to do much preparation to convey the meaning. I hope that moment becomes a time of renewal within the priesthood; a renewal that helps priests embrace these texts and proclaim them in a similar manner to Bishop Trautman's proclamation.

I hope you have a great week.

Gotta sing. Gotta pray.

if i may humbly impose my own conjecture ,

it appears that this man , this former lover,
hath been arrested in the bosom, for love his love hath caused perilous harm ,
woe, for the necessity to feast for oneself is but the sensation to anesthetize the pain within
for love given and torn asunder bears pain impervious to most apothecaric remedies.

Desperate notes, cards, pictures.
All in dismay, for the hopes and dreams of his own rapture have been led
left. on the floor.

Let him feast, let him care his injured heart, for there is pain indescribable,
words unimaginable that reiterates the very painful burn that is within bosom of man, yes, even woman,
when love is given and torn asunder.

So feast on, man in the mirror, and let thy jolly and gaiety persist,
whatever may help in minimizing the pain of a broken heart...

i toast to thee,
i pray for thee,

Poems and Poets / Ode to the sunsets
October 22, 2010, 07:27:59 AM
[originally written on December 19, 2009]

In correspondence of time of formality of a firm handshake
Your eyes that glow beyond recognition and in total awe I laugh
The declaration of slight immaturity before your presence, though no longer any pride before me
For inhibition of time inhibition of life inhibition of etiquette dissipates before you
Mask that one wears to hide the true core is removed

Shield of armor, breastplate of defense
it all rusts and is torn asunder for the power of one's caress is total magnificence.

The many nights, the many stars, the many trickles of raindrops cannot compare
to the breadth of the heart in joyous majesty.
In simplicity, in truth, in knowing that acceptance before the eye and ear is at hand
no longer must the court of play be in rapture for there is none with thee.

Songs are sung in sitting sunsets
faces are caressed by wind's cool eloquence
by the side of the sea
with hand on white Karellian Pina Colada and birds mingling
dost the heart melt in glorious majesty.
The pink adored by three others in company.

We look forward to the sunsets that set,
to the sunrises that have yet come to pass,
and in adoration of the beauty of the isle in rapture..
tis ours to yearn to bequeath more,
tis ours to aspire to have and to give..more.
For in dreaming do we live.
For in living do we dream.

They say, "Third time's a charm."

I think so too.
Sunset..

Poems and Poets / Re: Does a Poet Need Pain to Write?
October 22, 2010, 07:08:18 AM
A poet needs one thing: a source of inspiration.

Either it be in the form of a woman, a man, a joyous feeling, a morose mood, sexuality, there is a plethora of possible candidates. One thing is for sure, a poet will write when his heart is full. It takes time to produce thoughts into expressible written words, that tries to come close to the passions burning within.

Give a poet a pen, a paper, and his inspiration. A sweet kiss on the cheeks, and perhaps, just perhaps, he might write a poem for you.

hehe, kujawa pood ni oy. Naa pood koy amigo ning proceed sija sa DPM program (doctor of podiatric medicine) , ako ning proceed ko sa MD program; we were friends back in undergrad. He is 3 years my senior. Recently he landed on a 4 year podiatry residency in Virginia State. Their residency salary is not bad; about $45,000 for the first year, $47,000 for the 2nd year, and $50,000 for the 3rd and 4th year.

Upon finishing the 4 year GP&S residency (general podiatry & surgery), a starting salary in the same hospital for a specialist Podiatrist is $165,000.
(this does not include overtime, or moonlighting hospitals). So , he should expect to earn $200,000-$250,000 a year if he overtimes.

Podiatry was listed in Forbes #15 most highest paid profession in the United States of America.

Podiatrists are also known as foot doctors. Podiatrists are physicians or surgeons who treat and examine disorders, diseases, deformities and injuries of the foot, ankle and lower leg. The foot bears all the body weight, and hence it is the most important part of our body. Podiatrists' job has become challenging over the years. A podiatrist is a Doctor of Podiatry Medicine (DPM). He is required to do a two year internship or residency. There are good job opportunities for entry-level graduates of accredited podiatry medicine programs.

Podiatrist Job Description: Podiatrists' job involves using surgical, mechanical, medical and electrical methods to treat injuries and disorders. Podiatrist must be licensed and must have a degree in medicine. A podiatrist prescribes medicines and carries out surgeries. Podiatrists also treat foot and ankle fractures, sprains, or other injuries. Some podiatrists design and develop mechanical devices to create better walking models to correct balance troubles. The foot is the first area to show signs of some major diseases such as arthritis, diabetes, and heart diseases. Patients with diabetes have poor blood circulation and hence are prone to foot ulcers and infections. Podiatrists help detect symptoms of such disorders and refer these cases to other doctors. Podiatrists can also work in related fields like assisting in athletic training and massage therapies. Podiatrists can specialize in sports medicine, pediatrics, dermatology, radiology, geriatrics, or diabetic foot care.

Podiatrist Salary Range: According to Projections data from the National Employment Matrix, in 2008, out of 12,200 podiatrists 76 percent were on job while 24 percent were self-employed. Podiatrists work for over 40 hours a week. Podiatrist salaries have increased over the years. A survey by Podiatry Management Magazine reported the average salary of podiatrist as $114,768 per annum in 2008. Lowest salary that a podiatrist can get is $64,000 per annum. Experienced podiatrists can earn over $160,000 per annum. No wonder, podiatry medicine was on the 15th position in Forbes Magazine's survey of 'America's 25 Best Paying Jobs' in 2009.

Even in times of recession, a podiatrist salary is high. Podiatrist salary also varies depending on his specialization. The average salary of a podiatrist who specializes in pediatrics is $154,295 per annum whereas that of an experienced specialist in sports medicine is $208,000 per annum. Podiatrists working in health care sectors like hospitals, clinics, public health agencies, nursing homes and health maintenance organizations, are eligible for health insurance and retirement benefits. Self employed podiatrists earn higher than podiatrists working in hospitals but they have to provide for their own health insurance and retirement expenses. They also have to bear the costs of handling their own offices. Podiatrists in partnerships sometimes earn higher incomes than self employed podiatrists. Salaries of podiatrists are different in different regions. An average podiatrist salary in Houston is $145,000 per annum, while in New York, it is $155,300 per annum. Podiatrists in the following five states earn the maximum salary per year - Oregon $177,800, Michigan $169,700, Kentucky $163,200, Louisiana $162,920, and Georgia $162,200.

As is the case with any other profession, a podiatrist has to work hard to rise up the ranks and achieve a salary hike. A career in podiatry is not preferred by many, but as people all over the world are getting foot conscious, the demand for podiatrists is bound to increase. As the demand is high and the supply is less, podiatrist salary is increasing by leaps and bounds. So, if you want to make a career choice, make hay while the sun shines.

John the Baptist , the last prophet, predicts the coming of the CHRIST, The Son of God.

John answered,

“A person cannot receive even one thing unless it is given him from heaven.  You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ, but I have been sent before him.’  The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. He must increase, but I must decrease.”

He who comes from above is above all. He who is of the earth belongs to the earth and speaks in an earthly way. He who comes from heaven is above all.  He bears witness to what he has seen and heard, yet no one receives his testimony.  Whoever receives his testimony sets his seal to this, that God is true.  For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure.  The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand.  Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him."

The Necessity of The Holy Eucharist, Mo Kalawat Ta Tanan

And Jesus Christ said unto them, "And this is the will of Him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day." Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."

The necessity in being born again in the water and spirit.

Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

Not when the patient is suffering from UTI (urinary tract infection), gurgling and drinking of said urine would be a most unwise, self-defeating practice.

In fact, urine intake should be avoided. There is a reason why the body expels them from the system: excess calcium, potassium, sodium, electrolytes, pathogen residues etc.

I would liken it to someone who recently coughed out green and pruritic phlegm and then decided to put it back in his/her mouth.

There is a physiological/metabolic reason to why the body expels excrement from the body. Putting it back inside is idiotic and moronical :)

This is a good article, Michael. Indeed, there is a great pool of information on the Chinese that should be compared with data charts in the US.
This would be good to differentiate if there is a predisposition in a particular ethnic group towards diabetes, and what is this group, and studying any section of the chromosome that is common in diabetic patients.

Science and Research / A Lecture On Diabetes
October 21, 2010, 07:19:43 AM
Diabetes mellitus (or simply, diabetes) refers to a group of disorders that are characterized by hyperglycemia and affect 1% to 2% of the United States population {for the purpose of this lecture, we will be going on US data, simply because I'm a US medical intern, and the data that I have are based on US hospital charts, US medical text books, so let that be known}. Although the pathogenesis of these disorders is varied, individuals with diabetes lack the essential ability to produce sufficient insulin or respond to secreted insulin in order to meet their metabolic needs. Furthermore, all diabetic patients are vulnerable to complications such as nephropathy, neuropathy and retinopathy.

Monitoring and control of blood sugar, insulin replacement, proper diet, and exercise can significantly  reduce the morbidity and mortality of this disease.

----------

The duration of this lecture will focus on the following:

1. Type 1 Versus Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
2. Diabetes Insipidus
3. Symptoms
4. Treatment options

Note: Any questions regarding the subject matter will be answered accordingly.

Caesar Augustus, Emperor of Rome.

During his final years Augustus withdrew more and more from public life. Intending to travel with Tiberius to Capri, and then on to Beneventum, he left Rome for the last time in AD 14.
He fell ill on the way to Capri and, after four days resting on Capri, when they crossed back to the mainland Augustus at last passed away. He died at Nola on 19 August AD 14, only one month away of his 76th birthday.
The body was taken to Rome and given a stately funeral and his ashes were then placed in his Mausoleum.

let's face it, we all wish for, and pray for, the grace of a healthy and long life.  a look at giants of history (i.e., historical figures, which we aren't, yet ;D) and the causes of their deaths outside the battlefield may give us cautionary tales, if not the desire to whisper a morbid kind of gratitude.  a happy halloween to all!

for starters--

KING HENRY VIII
28 June 1491 â€" 28 January 1547; 56 years old

many of his symptoms, his leg ulcer, the strokes he suffered later in life, his wild mood swings, his progressive dementia, all point to severe uncontrolled diabetes.  another analysis is that his ulcerated legs were brought on possibly by deep vein thrombosis and what is theorized as cushings syndrome, a horrible disease that affects body fat and bones.  and he suffered from morbid obesity later in life, which is directly related to diabetes.  his six wives had nothing to do with his health despite his having to do with the deaths of some of them, by beheading.  and definitely he had no syphillis.

Great thread!!!
