In TB, as with the rest of the world, thereis no such thing as absolute freedom. Perhaps a better phrase would be: freedom with responsibility.

C2, ka sad ba aning mga panghitabo oi!  I know, lahi2x lang gud ug reaction ang tao sa kalisud oi!  Naay uban putong ug naay uban hopeful ba.  But the kids shouldn't suffer and if it's inevitable, dapat ang values nila nka set na to work harder because someday naa ra jud kalingkawasan.

I think I read na her autobiography.  Yes indeed, she is a living saint!  And I still wonder if I can even do just a bit of what she has done especially touching those people with leprosy.

Kabalo ka unsa jud akong gustong masulayan ma serve, kanang sa mental institution.  I heard it's not easy but I still want to have a chance to do that.  I did na work sa Muntinlupa jail.  I bring them food and I also bring some of my friends to interact with people inside and to have an outlet sa ilang mga stories.  It was nice too but not as nice as serving the orphanage.  It's the helplessness of the kids that makes my little service important to them.  When I look at the eyes of the children, I see hope man gud not for them but for myself too.

Have you been to the House of Hope in Cdo? Ang tindera sa akong mama sa una, naka stay man didto kay nabuang, when she caught her soon-to-be-husband in the arms of another girl. My mom took care of a mentally ill man (brother of her friend), he lived with us for a while, I was in high school and I remember how much I hated having him live with us. It is extremely hard to take care of mentally ill people, lisod jud kaayo, mura pud ka ma bu****. But it doesn't affect me as much as little kids jud nga nag suffer. I kept thinking of the little girl last night, bisan hangtod karon...

Miss Grazie, I really hope someday you'll have that orphanage. You have the heart for it.

Sakto gyud, a case of too little, too late..murag, aanhin pa ang damo kung patay na ang kabayo.

Mao man gyud na pinaka frustrating sa atong nasud, Ms Asianfairy. The extreme divide between the rich and the poor. I sometimes feel like in our country, there's only the very rich or the very poor. We're a nation of extremes. On one side you see people like Panfilo Lacson, who has millions of dollars deposited in US banks...and on the other, you see this girl who was driven to suicide by extreme poverty, and other girls like her who go to bed hungry. Ours is a country of incongruities, where you see magnificent mansions protected by expensive fences in Ayala Alabang, and yet you see many little shanties filled with hungry people just outside that expensive village. The two groups might as well be from different planets, because the rich live in a bubble, protected from the outside world of wretchedness by their air-conditioned luxury cars and their air-conditioned palaces.

I wonder how it feels to be a rich person in the Philippines. I wonder if the rich person who drives his luxury car feel a pang of pity for the kid who knocks on his car window, selling sampaguita. He probably thinks the kid is a vermin who'll scratch his precious BMW. I'm not chastising people for being rich, it's their right to enjoy their money...

I just wish everyone in our country are able to have enough food to sustain them, and enjoy basic services that people in wealthier countries get.

my friend made the news for TV. luoy jud ang bata. in fact, she had a letter for Wish Ko Lang asking for a new shoes, new uniform, notebooks and pencils. too sad, her parents could not afford to buy those things. giuna lang sa iyang mga ginikanan  ang ilang kan-on.

putongun bataa, wala pud kasharean sa iyang mga problema sa kinabuhi.

EL Mundo, surprisingly, daghang mga bata and teenagers who suffer from depression. In the States, it has almost become a teenage epidemic, suicide. Just a few months ago, my husband's friend's teenage niece killed herself. Her dad came home and found her with a rope around her neck, how she was able to hang herself, I don't know. The parents were devastated, they didn't see it coming. They thought she was quieter than usual, and kept to herself more, a few weeks prior to her suicide, but they didn't think it alarming.

It was also on the news a few years ago, a father of six kids in Manila killed all of his children, then killed himself. Upon investigation by the police, it was found out that the father had been feeling desperate because he lost his job, and couldn't find a new one...and the sideline he had of collecting scrap metal and garbage wasn't enough to feed his family. The kids cried all the time from hunger, so the father chose to end all their miseries.

Hello, Ms. C2,

I knew what you were saying that it was difficult to be in an orphanage.  I also thought it was hard but I still kept coming back.  Everytime I leave the orphanage, I got a big lump on my throat - well, I am anyway iyakin.  Some kids would even clung to my legs and wanted to go home with me.  But one thing I could never forget was that 7-month old kid that was as thin and pale as a paper.  Her mother left her outside of the orphanage.  She was strapped in her crib because she had IV.  I touched her tiny hand with my finger and she clung to it so tightly I was scared and so surprised by the strength, and she looked at me straight in my eyes.  I couldn't help but cry because I felt like I did it to her.  Two weekends after that, the baby passed away.  I was crushed but I also "intellectualized" that she was safe already in heaven and she was not gonna feel the pain anymore.  Nah, gahilaka na pod ko!  Anyway, I learned a lot from my experience of having served in that orphanage.  It pained me see the kids neglected by their own flesh and blood but at the same time it gave me glory to do something for those kids and to please God in my own little ways.  Maayo nlang pamawi sa mga time na gaminaldita ko hehehe. Mao nay ginaingon na, you don't have to have money to be able to help.

Kabalo ka, somebody asked me what would I do if I win the lotto, and I knew already a long time ago what to do.  I will have orphanage and home for the elderly, among other things.  Ambisyosa pod ko noh?

Dili man na ambisyosa Ms Grazie, that's a lofty and noble goal. I'll pray nga mahitabo na puhon. Mag request ta ni Lord.  :)

Nakabasa ka sa biography ni Mother Teresa, Ms Grazie? Didto gyud nako na realize that she was indeed a living saint. She did extraordinary things with humility, she lived her life amongst people that society has tagged repulsive. She worked tirelessly, every single day, giving her life in service to the poor. And she did it all with a smile. Mao na'y pinaka remarkable noh? To witness misery and poverty all your life, and still come out of it smiling...
In her own words: When suffering comes into our lives, we should accept it with a smile. This is the greatest gift from God: to have the courage to accept everything he gives us and asks of us with a smile.

My mom is with a Catholic evangelical group who goes out to provide service in jails, rehabs, mental asylums, orphanages etc etc...Sa didto pako sa Pinas, whenever I was home (Bukidnon), I would go with her group, so I've been with her sa mga prisohan, sa rehabs, balay sa mga mentally ill...I go with her and I'd come out of the experience feeling hopeful, that I've brought at least a little bit of happiness to those people that day. But it's the orphanages that I found so difficult, the suffering of little kids just crushed me. I would tell my mom about this, that trips to the orphanages destroy me emotionally, and she'd say to me, "ayaw na ka guol diha, maayo gani naa sila sa orphanage, naa pa'y daghang mga bata nga naa nabuhi sa dalan"...and I guess that's why she's still doing what she does, and I'm here. She is able to put it all in perspective, and I can't.

#2544
Miss Grazie,

I spent a day (in an outreach program) in Mother Teresa's home for orphaned and abandoned kids in Pasil years ago. It was one of the most difficult experiences of my life, seeing deformed kids abandoned by parents who didn't want freaks for children, kids orphaned and rescued from the streets, kids who were unloved and unwanted by their own blood. But a child's resilience is a true testament of the beauty and strength of the human soul, because while I was crying my heart out, the kids around me were all smiling, all seemingly happy to see us. All I saw was the misery of their condition, but they were just happy to be alive. Still, I couldn't help but feel guilty, feel that it was unfair, unjust...that I had a happy childhood, loved by my family...and those kids didn't have any of that. In a perfect world, every kid should have a happy childhood. But wishful thinking is all it is.

I have great respect and admiration for people who choose to live their lives serving others, who are missionaries, who choose to witness and live amongst misery, poverty, desolation...they have strength of will that I will never have. I cannot see suffering and despair every single day, all year round...it'll be my destruction, I know I'll just fall apart. I'll probably kill myself like the little girl did.

Honestly, Ms Grazie, when I see these things, esp. when it concerns little children...I still ask why. I still don't get it and I never will. I try to reason within myself, ma'g intellectualize, even tell myself about God and redemption and Heaven...but I witness suffering and it still knocks me breathless, and no amount of intellectualizing relieves that first wave of hopelessness I feel.

I still ask why. And I still don't get it. It's so hard to give reason to something so unreasonable.

:'(

Oh my... :'(

This story is making me cry.

I was just fixing myself a peanut butter & jelly sandwich before I read this post, and I was thinking exactly the same thing. While I live in the relative comfort of knowing that there's always food on the table if I go hungry, I was thinking pila ka mga tawo sa Pinas, esp mga bata, ang nagkutoy ang tiyan nga wala'y gikaon, and the parents don't know where and how to get food to feed them.

Sometimes, I feel guilty about this. I ask myself, why should I live in relative comfort while others suffer? By comfort, I don't mean rich...I mean, comfort nga makakaon ka tulo sa usa ka adlaw. I feel guilty that I am able to eat enough to nourish me while others don't.

This is so depressing. My heart is crushed by this young girl's death.

Mao jud noh, Ms Grazie?

When I was younger, it was always me, me, me. We're a close-knit family, and I was lucky that I was spoiled by my family (in a good way). My uncles, aunts, lolos, lolas, even male cousins were always so generous to me...pero mao lagi, I was on the receiving end lang kanunay of their generosity. Now that I have an income of my own, I am able to return the favor bisan lang sa mga ginagmay nga butang, and it's a nice feeling that I am able to show my love for them in that way...through little things that may not have cost an arm and a leg, but filled with, as you said, lots of love.

Being that we were made in the likeness of God, all of us have inner beauty...even the most miserable people, even the so-called bad people nga pasaway sa katilingban...there will always be that inner light, inner beauty in our souls...

And that's why we are all beautiful...not everyone may appreciate it, but it's there...

General Topic / Re: Christmas Shopping
November 08, 2007, 03:48:19 PM
Na touch ko's imong gi ingon Miss Grazie, kadtong filled with love. I've been buying stuff here and there for my family pud para sa Christmas, and each thing I buy, ubay2x nga consideration pa kung maka gusto ba ang hingtungdan. I've never liked shopping, don't even enjoy buying groceries, and I hate shopping for outfits and other girly things, but lately akong nawong tua na sa malls kay mangita ug unsa'y maayo ipadala pinaskuhan. Tinuod jud ka, each item I purchased, a lot of thought and love went into that. Buying stuff for a loved one is so much more fulfilling than buying for oneself.

Im dying laughing over here, yo!

Hahaha, forgive your ate for her pagka jologs, dodong.  ;D

We were given a whole page of sauce combinations to choose from, they were all in Italian (naturally) and honestly, the only thing I recognized was primavera (source: Claudine Barretto), so mao ra jud to akong gi order. Also, the owner was there and he had a thick Italian accent, I didn't wanna embarrass myself by mispronouncing an Italian word.

;D

Dong, musta imong lovelife? Now that your research is a success, you need to kick back, relax and enjoy your lovelife. Flavored thingies, anyone? Hahaha! Joke lang dong!

Had  wine with it?

I was tempted nga mo order wine, dodong, pero mahal man gud. Hehehe. I just had sweet tea w/ lemon. Banana's ravioli was really, really good. The resto had an open floor plan, makit-an nimo ang kitchen and the chef nga nagluto sa imong food, and they make their own pasta, so fresh and lami jud. I had fettucine primavera, it was ok lang. But the bruschetta was yum yum yum! The best thing pa jud, barato ra ilang presyo.

Sorry dong ha, TMI na kaayo ko, I just get so flustered when I talk about food. I'll try to lessen my carb intake na, kay na inspire ko sa imong sexy body...magpa sexy na pud ko.

Yes, kanang corn grits.  Naa gani nay white or yellow in a box in the baking section of your grocery store.  It's better man gud to eat corn instead of always eating rice especially for diabetics like my dear hubby coz dili man dali ma convert into simple sugar ang corn.  Their food is actually simple.  Sometimes, instead of Ugali, I make Githeri.  It's a mixture of equal parts of whole kernel corn (the hard ones) and beans, boiled to tender.  I like their Sukuma Wiki.  Mura lang na sya gulay na collared greens gisubakan ug leftover carne or fish.  Btw, Sukuma Wiki means "push the week" - actually ang gi push ang family food budget.

It's very similar diay to Pinoy food in that respect noh? Kita gi utilize man jud nato tanan parts sa isda or manok, baboy or baka...push the week pud and Pinoy cuisine.

The easiest, Ms. C2, kanang ilang ginatawag na Ugali (sounds familiar ba? :D)  It's actually a nilung-ag na binlod with a little olive oil and salt.  Kaila la binlod?  Kna bitaw mura numero 14 na mais.  I think that's their equivalent to polenta in Italian cuisine.

Mapalit na sa grocery store dire ang binlod? That was my fave too sa Bohol sa una, lami kaayo na butangan mantika ug toyo, lami pud kaayo na i-pares sa inun-unan. Yum yum yum! So kanang Ugali, just cook the binlod, then mix with olive oil and salt? Is there any particular Kenyan meat dish that you like?

Wow, very nice choice of cologne for your brother in law, he'll love it! I tried my cologne this weekend, and i really like it because the Burberry Touch came with a package; it includes the cologne and the after shave cream. Which i used today in lab..hahahaha! I tried the Armani Attitude, which is really musky and so hard hard smell. Its very powerful at first, but after 15-20 minutes, the hard scent subsides and its so sexy, yo. Btw, when i was in the mall, i did try on the brand that you recommended, i liked it---it was very sweet--a bit similar to Bulgari, i was considering to buy it 'te but had to control myself from overspending. My date bought the new Star Eau De Parfum Spray Refillable.

Unsa man nang Star Eau de Parfum, dong? Karon pa lagi ko naka dungog ana? I bought baya Armani Black Code for my brother coz I trust your taste. Hehehe. I did go to the dept. store and akong gi test ang scent, sakto ka dong, ang Armani kay strong kaayo at first, but the base notes smell wonderful.
