Why You Shouldn't Follow Recipes - For Cooking Or For Life

We - all of us - live our lives within defined boundaries, as is expected of us. There are rules, social niceties, protocols and not-so-nuanced recommendations as to how we should live. Break them.

SWOT Analysis - Why Conducting a SWOT Analysis Is Important to Accepting Life for What It Is

Most people are unaware of SWOT Analysis. It is simply a way of examining all aspects of a business, school, or home. Realizing the strengths enables a business to improve business and relationships. Knowing weaknesses and planning how to strengthen them and avoid later disaster.

The Triple Win (Fail Forward, Find Yourself After Your Mistake, Then Succeed)

Life and active existence is a disicipline that requires full focus on reality. It does not matter what the immediate mistake is, as long as we learn how to succeed later from it. It is all like inventing something, we use what works, discard what does not work and find our way to the success and not just have it automatically from the beginning or "scratch point".

I Thought That?

Like everything we do as human beings, action has to be preceded by thought. All our feelings are the results of what we have been thinking about. In fact where you are right now in life has been brought to you by your feelings. What we think becomes our reality and can be changed in an instant.

Saying "YES" When Wanting to Say "NO": How to Change and Stop Sabotaging Your Relationships

Learning to say "No" is an important step forward in improving your quality of life and relationships. Often, those who can't say "No" within a relationship (or, for that matter, with new dates even before a relationship has been formalized) are often those who can't say "No" in other situations in their lives. Regardless of the numerous reasons you might be accustomed to saying "Yes" when you rather say "No", the only effective way to begin saying "No" is by beginning saying it, standing by what you say and practicing it.

YOU Are A DIVINE Gift To The World

You, me, we all are in a constant state of change continually unravelling and evolving, where you, when you look discover gems previously hidden from your view. The deeper you travel into and connect with your Self, the more there is to unravel and unearth. Countless opportunities are offered to help expand your understanding, opening to even greater truths about who you are. The fact that we all have this ability to continually grow and are unlimited in how far we can grow is truly wonderful.

Normal: What Does Normal Mean To You?

The word normal can trigger all kinds of meanings and what can come to mind are the judgements that are made around people. How someone looks, dresses or behaves is often part of this judgement. However, this article is not going to be about what is classed as normal or abnormal about people. What this will be looking at is what is normal on a personal level. This is the behaviours, thoughts, feelings and perceptions that one has become accustomed to and the behaviours that one is used to from other people.

69 Ways to Get What You Want - This Year and Every Year

One woman I respect and admire is Debbie Zimmerman, who is the co-founder of the 100 Women Project along with her daughter, Sheri Oppenheimer Baker. Always delivering a smile and a kind word, Debbie lights up the room with her personality. You Can Choose How You Want to Feel

Do you ever have a cluster of similarly themed messages showing up in a short period of time? That's what I'm experiencing right now. The current message that keeps recurring for me is this: it is my choice to enjoy or not enjoy life, no matter what is happening. Lately, pesky fears about my health have been buzzing around me like gnats. I've been on a cancer journey for the past 4 years and am currently in remission, but a part of me is always waiting for the other shoe to drop. In response to those fears, I recently awoke with this thought: "Just enjoy your life right now. No matter what may happen in the future, DECIDE to thoroughly enjoy today."

Selfless: Why Do Some People Always Put Others First?

People who put others first are often revered and are seen as an example of how to live. The fact that they appear to always put others first, is what makes them different to people who appear to always put themselves first. This could be to do with helping a friend, partner or colleague at a local level. And at a wider scale this could include some kind of charity work. Ultimately, their position is not important, because they are always on the look out to be there for another, regardless of their needs.

We live in a time where brands are everywhere and there is more or less a brand for everything. From branded water; to branded clothes and anything else that one could imagine. Take These Steps to Improve Your Performance

Some days it feels as if the body is controlling the mind. We can often become slaves to the way we feel. It takes a supreme effort to untangle ourselves from habitual negative feelings. Start the day in this way and it's difficult to be productive. It pays to understanding the nature of these internal programs that we run on a daily basis. It makes sense to frequently question your emotional state. This action allows you to focus your resources in the present moment and helps to reduce the stress of what the future may bring. So, go ahead and get into the habit of asking yourself three simple questions: How do I feel right now? How do I want to feel instead? What strategies do I have to feel that way? Make it part of your daily routine and then you will be able to assume the physiology of the state you would prefer to be in. You will quickly notice how your feelings will improve. Next step? Focus on what you want!

Starting Points

"Ignorance is preferable to error, and he is less remote from the truth who believes nothing than he who believes what is wrong." - Thomas Jefferson "In the beginning God created... and it was good," Genesis chapter one tells us. Thus speaks the starting point of the most widely read, loved, hated, controversial, history changing book ever written. Everything we believe is anchored in a starting point. From these starting points flow an ever-expanding, often changing belief system and worldview. It impacts all we do in life. For example, if we truly believe that everything God created is good, then we will see the world as inherently good. However, if our starting point shifts to the belief that humanity is inherently depraved, then our worldview dramatically shifts. How we then view ourselves and others is radically transformed and our actions along with it.

Get Rid of Self Defeating Thinking, Part 2, Worldviews

Modernism was the philosophic idea that can be reduced to incredulity toward metanarratives or worldviews. In other worlds, it claimed there were no metanarratives, which in itself is a worldview. Everyone has a worldview, a story that informs your mind what you believe is the answer to how humans got here, and what things are acceptable to believe and what you refuse to believe. The good part is we change worldviews from time to time, sometimes for emotional reasons, sometimes because we have been convinced of some other truth, and this turns out to be a key factor in balancing our lives.

Empowerment Through Change

I believe it is easier for men to experience empowerment and have more opportunities to exercise personal power than women. This suggests that there is prejudice against women in several areas of life. That said, empowerment for women boils down to similar things - understanding boundaries, choosing to be self-sufficient, and taking control. We are free to learn any number of processes to create the change we want and this sets up an opportunity to become empowered. We can change almost anything we choose, and at any time, providing we make the decision and are serious about learning and applying the techniques of change. Empowerment involves accepting you have free will and are prepared to take action to exercise control over your life.

Chess and Life and 2012

We often compare life to a game - or in the case of Shakespeare to a stage! - and there is good reason for it: there are always winners and losers in games, as there are in life; further, winning depends on skill and knowledge (as we like to think if we are winners) and, if we are more honest, some luck or chance. In fact losers invariably blame luck or fate for their failure, very infrequently looking to themselves as the source of their failure. Perhaps the best game of all to compare life with is chess; and for this reason chess generally is considered the best - the most skilful - of all games, for it alone seems devoid of chance. With every card game, for example, there is always the element of chance with the shuffle of the pack, or with dice games there is always the chance of the throw. But with chess every move is the product of your own thinking, or lack of it. You originate your own destiny, and if you find yourself in check then it is because you have seriously contributed to being in that situation!

Passion For Light

EARLY ON - I've always had a passion for light. As a child I would sit, transfixed, watching the sun go down over my 1940's city neighborhood. I loved the street lamps that came on late on summer evenings and the shadows of the trees. When I think of these images, I can hear the crickets in our garden and smell the grassy vapors rising up in our back yard so long ago. I loved car headlights sliding along the streets and lit signs: Dairy Queen, Phillips Gas, A & P. I loved the reflections of light on city streets, those rainbow streaks on glassy asphalt, and the train tracks and street car tracks silver snakes that were magical.
