Alex Compton - Welcoat

Compton became a household name when he played for the Manila Metrostars and later, the Batangas Blades, in the MBA. An American who was born in Makati City, he joined the Metrostars in the MBA's debut season in 1998, became league MVP in 1999, then went to the PBL to play for the Welcoat Dragons. When he was tapped as assistant coach to Leo Austria in the PBA for the same Terry Que / Raymond Yu-owned expansion franchise, he was also enlisted as the team's second import in seasons 2007 and 2008. It was unfortunate though that Compton was already 33 years old by the time he got to play in the PBA as many were hoping he'd be given a special pass to play as a local. Compton helped the team in tandem with Charles Clark and the next year, Jason Keep, but it was the weak local lineup that made them perennial cellar dwellers. He will be in the record books though as the league's first white playing assistant coach. Compton eventually became a head coach of the Alaska Aces.

JERUSALEM OR ROME: WHICH GREAT CITY?

Rev.11:8 talks about dishonorable treatment of the bodies of the two witnesses in the Great City where the Lord of the witnesses was crucified. The witnesses' bodies remained on the streets of "...of the great city (τῆς πόλεως τῆς μεγἀλης) which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified". 

First, the great city may be referring to Jerusalem (though this happened outside of Jerusalem). Second, that it may be referring to Rome (since Jesus' death sentense was passed and carried out under Roman authority). Third option, that is also viable, is that this image combines both Jerusalem and Rome into one architype of a great city that symbolizes opposition against YHVH and his servants. In this case it will include both Jerusalem, Rome and all other powerful cities/states yet to come.

ORDER OF CREATION AND DISORDER OF THE BEAST

Israel's God ordered all things into clearly separated categories. The main duty of the priest is to separate holy from common. Israel was the nation of priests. Israel was allowed to eat clean animals but avoid unclean ones. Israel was told not to mix two kinds of material in making its clothes (wool and linen). Israelite man was told not to wear females clothing, and vice versa. The days any type of ceremonial uncleanness clearly separated the days of cleanness. God separated the land from the sea, night from the day, Israel from the Nations, and the list goes on and on and on. Israel's God is a God of order. However, in Rev. 13:2 we read:

"And the beast that I saw was like a leopard, and his feet were like those of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. And the dragon gave him his power and his throne, and great authority".

It is in the context of the above Israelite worldview of clear separation into categories, the beast rising from was disorder personified

THE DRAGON ON THE SEA SHORE

"The Dragon (Satan) stood on the sand of the sea shore". That is how Rev. 13 begins. This is how it continues: "And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. It had ten horns and seven heads..."

In Book of Genesis 22:17 we read about God's promise to Abraham:

"...indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand, which is on the seashore; and your seed shall possess the gate of their enemies".

We see here that Abraham's seed, the People of God, are compared here to the sand on the shore. Yet, Revelation 13:1 temporarily places the Dragon on top of that sand. This signifies that there will be a time when the dragon will exercise dominion over God's people. We must not be surpised, but know that Dragon's time to dominate our lives is temporary (click here for more).

Kummakivi - A 500,000 kg Rock in Ruokolahti, Finland that has been Balancing on top of another Rock for 11,000 Years.
The 7-metre long boulder lies on a convex bedrock surface with a very small footprint but so firmly that it cannot be rocked with human force.
Kummakivi (Strange Stone) has been protected since 1962. A pine tree originating from the 1980s grows on top of the boulder.
The boulder is located in a forest in the western part of the Ruokolahti municipality, near the border of Puumala.

Oumuamua is the first interstellar object in history to pass through the solar system. Astronomers say that this first interstellar visitor came from the direction of Vega, which is the brightest star in the Lyra constellation. At Oumuamua's velocity, a voyage from Vega to the solar system would take 600,000 years. January 15 (12 or 21), 1519: Spanish conquistador Vasco Núñez de Balboa was publicly beheaded in Acla, Panama. His head was not removed on the first stroke of the axe - it actually took three blows. The orders came from his affectionate father-in-law, Pedrarias Dávila, the governor, who had long resented Balboa and his accomplishments. Balboa was best known for having crossed the Isthmus of Panama to the Pacific Ocean in 1513, becoming the first European to lead an expedition to have seen or reached the Pacific from the New World.

NBI PROBING 'INVESTMENT SCAM' IN NEGROS ORIENTAL

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is now looking into an alleged investment fraud in Negros Oriental involving a church pastor.

The pastor, Agustin G. Fontillas Jr., is the subject of complaints from at least 200 people after he allegedly ran off with some ₱100 million of their money that they invested with his firm AGF Trading.

Victims come from all over Negros Oriental, notably in Dumaguete City, Valencia, Tanjay City, Bais City, and Sibulan, NBI Dumaguete Supervising Agent Reynaldo Villordon said.

Police records show that in Dumaguete City alone, 43 people filed complaints against AGF Trading after investing a total of more than ₱9.2 million.

Individual investments range from ₱100,000 to up ₱3 million, he added.

The victims were mainly attracted with AGF's "Buy and Earn" program, which allegedly promised them to earn up to twice the amount they invested.

Villordon described the system as a "simplified version of the Ponzi scheme."

A victim from Dumaguete City told Yes The Best 106.3 that he invested about ₱200,000 in February 2020 and March 2021 in the hopes of getting up to ₱400,000 a month after.

But a year on since he first invested his money, he said he has not received a single centavo of the amount he was promised.

The victim further revealed that Fontillas allegedly promised to pay back their investments last Monday, August 16, 2021.

But when barangay authorities went to Fontillas' house in Valencia, the pastor was nowhere to be found.

The victim also said that the pastor couldn't be contacted by phone or via Messenger, allegedly even blocking some of them on Facebook.

This prompted the victims to report the incident to police.

For his part, Villordon said NBI is still checking if AGF Trading is registered with Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

He also urged those involved in the alleged investment scam to file a complaint at the NBI Dumaguete Office at the Capitol Area, or call (035) 225 0118.

After the war she resumed her studies and later worked at the institute founded by her parents - Marie and Pierre Curie. There she conducted her Nobel Prize-awarded work together with fellow researcher Frédéric Joliot, who she married in 1926.

Irène shared the 1935 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with her husband "in recognition of their synthesis of new radioactive elements" after they were the first people in history to create a radioactive element artificially.

Margaret Bourke-White, one of the pre-eminent photographers of the 20th century, is pictured here atop New York City's Chrysler Building in 1930. A staff photographer for Life magazine since its founding in 1936, one of her photos was featured on the cover of the very first issue of the famous news magazine. For decades, Bourke-White traveled the world photographing key events of her time. Early in her career, she took dramatic pictures of architecture and inside steel mills and factories, pioneering a new style of magnesium flare that allowed her to capture incredible details and earned her national renown. In 1930, she became the first Western photographer allowed to take pictures of Soviet industry during the Soviet five-year plan. Like her contemporary Dorothea Lange, she spent much of the 1930s photographing the downtrodden victims of America's Great Depression.

When World War II broke out, Bourke-White was the first woman permitted to work in combat zones. She was the only foreign photographer in Moscow when German forces invaded and she captured the bombardment of the Kremlin in a series of dramatic photos. LIFE staff started referring to her as "Maggie the Indestructible" after repeatedly coming under fire and surviving being on a torpedoed ship in the Mediterranean, stranded on an Arctic island, and getting pulled out of Chesapeake Bay after a helicopter crash.

While attached to General Patton's forces in Germany, she was one of the first photographers to document the horrors of the Buchenwald concentration camp after it was liberated. The following year, she photographed Mahatma Gandhi in India, including taking a now iconic photo of him at his spinning wheel. She is considered "one of the most effective chroniclers" of the violence that erupted during the partition of India and Pakistan. Bourke-White had a reputation for being relentless in her pursuit of the perfect photograph to embody her subject. "I feel that utter truth is essential," she asserted, "and to get that truth may take a lot of searching and long hours."

Scientists at Harvard University have successfully reversed the aging process in mice by making DNA repairs.

The study, which was 13 years in the making, demonstrated that the reorganization and regulation of genetic structures can either accelerate or reverse effects of aging such as deteriorating eyesight, smaller attention span and skin tissue issues.

The researchers acknowledged that the results must next be tested in larger mammals or humans.

Young children repeat the same thing over and over and over (like the same joke, the same observation, reading the same book, playing the same game...) because they are strengthening the connections in their brain that are learning from that repeated experience!

In addition to whatever they're learning from the experience they're repeating, they also learn valuable information about how to predict what's going to happen next, and how changing small variables affects the outcome.

Here are some examples of what a toddler or preschooler might be picking up from a repeated experience:

From your point of view, you're just reading the same book over and over and over -- but from their point of view, they spend 10 days thinking about the story of the book, then 8 days noticing small details in the illustrations of the background of the book, then 5 days thinking about the way that your voice sounds when you read dialogue versus when you're reading narration, then 10 days thinking about the emotions throughout the book, then 5 days thinking about the colors used in the pictures and how dark colors correlate with the "sad" pages and light colors correlate with the "happy" pages...

From your point of view, your preschooler just keeps telling the same knock-knock joke (that they don't even understand) over and over -- but from their point of view, they're spending time understanding the social reciprocity -- the back-and-forth -- of how a joke works, and then they're exploring who in their life does and does not know how to respond to a knock-knock joke (peers might not have been exposed to it, but adults probably have), and then they're chasing the delightful rush of telling someone something that makes them laugh and delight in you a little bit, and then they're expanding and exploring what words can be swapped in and out of a knock-knock joke to make people laugh even more...

From your point of view, your child gravitates toward running water in the sink as often as possible. From their point of view, one time they might be thinking about the feeling of the water running over their hands, and another time they might be listening to the sound of the water running, and another time they might be watching the visual of the water and how it cascades over any object it touches, and then they might be thinking about the temperature of the water, and then they might be thinking about the results of touching the water -- how now their hands are cold and wet and the cause-and-effect that went into that...and then they might start branching out in their experiments with how the water runs over spoons or cups in the sink, or how the water drips slowly or gushes depending on how they've opened the faucet...

There are a million million things to learn from repeated experiences. Especially when you are very young!

María Branyas Morera (USA/Spain) is now confirmed as the world's oldest woman living and oldest person living, following the death of 118-year-old Lucile Randon (France).

She was born in San Francisco, California, on 4 March 1907, one year after her parents emigrated to the country. Eight years later, they decided to return to Spain, where they settled in Catalonia.

María has called the region home ever since. She has resided in the same nursing home - Residència Santa María del Tura – for the past 22 years.

Liechtenstein Castle (German: Burg Liechtenstein) is a privately owned castle near Maria Enzersdorf in Lower Austria, bordering Vienna. It is on the edge of the Wienerwald (Vienna Woods). The castle, originally built during the 12th century, was destroyed by the Ottomans in the siege of Vienna in 1529, and again in the Battle of Vienna in 1683, and it remained in ruins until 1884, when it was rebuilt with the help of architect Carl Gangolf Kayser.

Liechtenstein (German for "bright stone") Castle is the place of origin of the House of Liechtenstein, the ruling family of the Principality of Liechtenstein. The family owned the castle from at least 1140 until the 13th century, and again from 1808 to the present.

Today, the castle hosts the Nestroy Theatre Festival, which is held annually during the summer months. The 1969 film A Walk with Love and Death, the 1971 film The Vampire Happening, the 1979 film The Fifth Musketeer, and the 1993 film The Three Musketeers featured shots of the castle.

Tesla's New Invention to Preserve the Beauty of Youth Through Life

"People who bathe themselves thoroughly in soap and water every day have an idea that they are utterly free from microbes and that their skin cannot be made any cleaner. If these people had only the opportunity to gaze for a moment through a very powerful microscope such as mine, they would be utterly astonished to see the millions of germs swarming over every inch of their own bodies. These germs, besides making such a hideous sight, are eating up the vitality and freshness and destroying the healthy particles of the skin at a rapid rate.

"It is the presence of these millions of germs and their voracity in devouring what is good in the human skin that rots away the hair, helping to turn it gray or white; that accounts for the fading of the naturally pink tint of the human body; that is responsible for the drying up and wrinkling of the fresh soft skin; that turns the skin eventually to yellow, and that in the case of people with very dirty habits brings on warts and other revolting sores.

"This being the case, the question suggested itself to me. Cannot some means be devised of keeping these microbes from reaching to the human body?

"There is no escape from the invasion of the human body in city localities by these microbes. No amount of clothing can keep them off, as they fall through the pores of the clothing just as a fly would get through the meshes of the net of a fisherman.

"I have made extensive study and experiment to the end of finding some means of clearing the human skin of these deadly microbes, and I have succeeded in inventing a means by which it can be kept free from their ravages. The presence of these microbes being the cause of so much injury, with the removal of the cause of injury there is every reason to believe that the skin of a perfectly clean woman can be made to retain through old age to her death the bloom and freshness of youth, the color and softness of girlhood, and the vigor and pliableness of the skin which every woman possesses until by degrees these wandering microbes fall headlong to her skin and begin the ravages which result in wrinkles, yellowness, gray hair and general puckered-up appearance.

"My method is to bathe the body thoroughly everyday with some disinfectant like alcohol, and as the hair of the body has a particularly attraction for the microbes, a doubly thorough bath should be given everytime.

"Next, the body is thoroughly rubbed with the hands to stir up electricity, and through the feet and hands the whole body is charged with electricity from a battery I myself invented. With this battery I have charged human bodies so successfully that the microbes have been thrown off in a perfect shower to the ground, some of them being thrown as far away as four and five feet. This charging of the hands and feet relieves the skin and hair entirely of the microbes, and the skin can go on living its natural life of softness and freshness. Still other microbes will fall upon it the next day, but these are always removed before twenty-four hours, so that none of them remain long on the skin and in the hair, being removed by the electricity before they have had time to do much ravaging.

"The Old Man and the Sea" is a novella by Ernest Hemingway that tells the story of Santiago, an old, experienced fisherman who has not caught a fish in 84 days. Santiago sets out to sea early one morning with his small skiff, determined to catch a fish to prove his worth. He rows far out into the Gulf Stream, where he finally hooks a giant marlin. The fish puts up a fierce fight, pulling Santiago's boat for days. Despite the struggle, Santiago is determined to land the fish and ultimately succeeds. However, as he is on his way back to shore, sharks attack and devour most of the marlin, leaving Santiago with only the skeleton.

The first to dunk in a PBA game was Ramon Fernandez. To the delight of all basketball fans at the Araneta, Don Ramon accomplished the feat by executing a breakaway, garden variety type, one-handed slammer. During warm ups, a lot of tall young pros back then dunked, and as suspected only time held back its debut on the hard-court in a live game. The "Elegant One" delivered the first!

Next one to do so was Toyota team mate Abe King Jr.; he did a twisting two-handed reverse, spectacular! In so doing made it also the first acrobatic dunk in the PBA.

Third in this esteemed list was by far the most authoritative slammer-in-waiting. During the pre-game festivities, the early birds at the dome were treated to the most number of dunks that the locals can dish out, and there was none more prolific than our next dunker, and as time had proven, the most successful game-time dunker in the PBA during the early years.

He had the highest elevation, owed largely to his athleticism on his six-foot-five frame, tallest in the pros at the time, allowing for more lee way in accomplishing the feat. Alberto Guidaben could easily have had the pleasure of having the title for the first Pinoy to dunk in a game had it not been for the traveling violation called on him by the stripes, as earlier mentioned by a few of our old timers here.

After his first successful one in a game, Abet dunked the ball almost in all solo plays. He had that elevation; he did not need all the elements to align in order for him to do so, much unlike the first two dunkers, Mon Fernandez and Abe King.

Then came the time when the Crispa Redmanizers with Guidaben, played against a touring French basketball team(GIMM). He had a dunking spree that night. Since although they were tall, the young French ballers were slower than the Camiguin Island native, so he was able to out quick them to the basket, dunking at will.

Venancio "Benjie" Paras

Before starring in many classic '90s comedy movies alongside other comedy legends like Babalu and Roderick Paulate, Benjie Paras was already a superstar on the basketball court. His first big accomplishment was to give the UP Fighting Maroons a championship, something that succeeding UP teams have never repeated since. Soon after, Paras became the first and only PBA player to simultaneously win the Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player awards in the PBA. Paras's collection of individual accolades and championships make him arguably the best power forward in Philippine basketball history.

BRGY GINEBRA HEAD COACH TIM CON ON THE BAY AREA DRAGONS: "We just had a healthier lineup and he didn't. If he had a healthier lineup, I don't know if we will be here on the podium."

Philippines versus China — even if Bay Area is a Hong Kong-based squad. That was the prevailing storyline of the 2022-23 PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals.

It was how the league and its television partner marketed the series, turning the Finals into a spectacle.

Moreover, Ginebra represented the PBA — a league that had been hit by controversy after controversy since 2017 and has been branded as a group that had failed to evolve — against a powerhouse team the East Asia Super League built to represent China.

Tim Cone heard all of this and it was what motivated him in the grueling series that took 21 days to finish.

"We talked about this at the beginning of the series, we were playing for more than ourselves. We were playing more than just Ginebra and the Ginebra fans. We were playing for fans all around the country and we were playing for the league ourselves," shared the 64-year-old American head coach, who has been in the PBA since 1989.

"It was always on our mind when we progressed through the series."

That is why hours before Game 7, Cone went to the court of the Philippine Arena.

As he looked around, he looked at every section of the stands of the gargantuan venue. And he reminded the Kings that it was them they were playing for.

"We didn't see that run and that's the function of the crowd. They would not let us let down," he continued as 54,589 fans trooped to Bocaue and cheer on Ginebra — Ginebra-Pilipinas.

Cone, the winningest head coach in the PBA, was going up against Brian Goorjian, who recently steered Australia to bronze during the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

"Brian Goorjian is really special. I can honestly say that.

"He had to go through basically three different lineups this series. One with (Andrew) Nicholson, he played another way all-Chinese, then another way with (Myles) Powell," he said praising Goorjian. "His team stayed in their flow. When they lost Nicholson, his team stayed in their flow. When they lost Nicholson, their spirit was incredible, their motor was lifted and they didn't feel sorry for themselves. Powell played a wonderful game in Game 6.

"The three days off gave us a lot of time to adjust to him. I look at that video over and over again and that's where you get impressed with a coach because of all of the adjustments, the things they did, and taking advantage of who Justin was guarding, where he put (Hayden) Blankley and (Kobey) Lam. He was really, really impressive and it was hard to keep it up," he continued.

"We just had a healthier lineup and he didn't. If he had a healthier lineup, I don't know if we will be here on the podium."

Press Release: Bagong Pinakamalaking Passenger Terminal Building sa buong Pilipinas, bubuksan na ngayong taon

Nagsagawa ng inspeksyon si Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) General Manager Jay Santiago sa Port of Calapan sa Oriental Mindoro na pinakamalaking passenger terminal building (PTB) sa buong Pilipinas na nakatakdang buksan sa darating na Marso ngayong taon.

Ayon sa kay Engr. Elvis Medalla, Port Manager ng PPA Port Management Office Mindoro, moderno ang bagong PTB at kalagayan ng mga tao ang kinonsidera dito. "Para talaga ito sa mga pasahero ng Calapan Port, nararapat lang na bigyan natin sila ng kalidad na serbisyo at world class facility na pwede nilang magamit habang nag-aantay ng biyahe" ani Medalla.

Ang pinakabagong PTB ay mayroong prayer room, breastfeeding station, children playroom, clinic, at modernong elevator at escalator na magagamit ng mga pasahero. Nagkakahalaga ang proyekto ng Php 353M at may target completion date na Pebrero 18, 2023 o 720 calendar days.

Ayon kay GM Santiago, malaking bagay sa pasahero ang malaking terminal dahil kaya nitong mag-accommodate ng 3,500 na pasahero sa kahit anong oras.

"Ako ay natutuwa na sa ating inspeksyon ay nakita natin ang progreso ng konstruksyon ng bago at pinakamalaking PTB sa buong Pilipinas na nasa Port of Calapan sa Oriental Mindoro," ani Santiago.

"Ayon sa assessment ng Port Management Office ng Mindoro, ang completion rate ng ating PTB ay advance o ahead sa completion ng 17% at ito ay ating pasisinayaan sa Marso ngayong taon," dagdag pa ni Santiago.

Ang bagong PTB ay magbibigay ng malaking kaginhawaan sa mga pasahero sa Calapan para mas maging kaaya-aya ang kanilang biyahe at maiwasan ang mahabang pila gaya nitong kapaskuhan.

Nikolai Tesla, 86 years old, the electrical genius who discovered the fundamental principle of modern radio, was found dead in his hotel room last night. He died in bed sometime yesterday. Gaunt in his best years, he had lately been wasting away.
Tesla was never married. He had always lived alone, and it is not believed he had any near relatives.
Despite his more than 700 inventions, Tesla was not wealthy. He cared little for money; as long as he could experiment he was happy. Much of the time he did not even have a laboratory, and worked where he lived.
Tesla was the first to conceive an effective method of utilizing alternating current, and in 1888 patented the induction motor which converted electrical energy into mechanical energy more effectively and economically than by direct current. Among his other principal inventions are lighting and the Tesla coil.
"The radio, I know I'm its father, but I don't like it," Tesla once said. "I just don't like it. It's a nuisance. I never listen to it. The radio is a distraction and keeps you from concentrating. There are too many distractions in this life for quality of thought, and it's quality of thought, not quantity, that counts."
Evidently, he did a lot of thinking that never materialized. It was his custom on his birthday—July 10—to announce to reporters the shape of things to come.
On his 76th birthday, he announced: "The transmission of energy to another planet is only a matter of engineering. I have solved the problem so well I don't regard it as doubtful."
On another birthday, Tesla predicted that power would soon be projected without wires through the stratosphere.
When he was 78, Tesla announced he had perfected a "death beam" that would bring down a fleet of 10,000 enemy planes 250 miles from a nation's borders and make millions of soldiers drop dead in their tracks. His beam, he said, would make war impossible.
Tesla was born at Smiljan, Croatia, when it was part of the old Austro-Hungarian Empire. His first electrical invention was the telephone repeater, which he perfected in 1881 while working for the Austrian government.
Three years later, Tesla came to the United States, became a citizen and an associate of the late Thomas A. Edison. Later he established the Tesla Laboratory in New York and devoted himself to research.
Tesla had lived at the hotel where he died for years, and amused himself by feeding pigeons in the nearest park. Several years ago, he hired a boy to take five pounds of corn twice a day and feed it to the pigeons. He said he had found it "more convenient" to use the boy.

BILLY Mamaril officially became a nurse only late last year, but he already put his knowledge to good use as early as 2020 during his last year in the PBA.

The San Miguel backup big man and the rest of his teammates were winding down from one practice at Acropolis Greens gym in Quezon City when a freak accident struck June Mar Fajardo after he went aggressive on defense to end the scrimmage on a high note.

"Naagawan niya ako ng bola tapos meron siyang clear path to the basket, ida-dunk na niya ata yun, tapos pag-plant niya ng paa niya, may gumanun talaga, may pumutok," Mamaril recalled on SPIN Zoom In. "Tapos pag tingin namin kay June Mar, may buto na na nakalabas sa leg niya."

"Sabi ko, 'Give space muna tayo," Mamaril began. "'June Mar, wag mo nang tingnan' kasi syempre baka ma-shock pa siya. Tapos 'immobilize', tapos split natin ng konti, takpan natin, baka ma-infectionan. O basta dyan ka lang June Mar, i-elevate mo yung paa mo ng konti para yung blood flow hindi mag-dugo masyado.'"

SLANIC SALT MINE (Salina Unirea), Slănic, Prahova, Romania
Slănic mine is an old salt mine, located in Slănic, Prahova County, Romania, just 100 km north of Bucharest, situated between the valley of Prahova and that of Teleajen, at about 44 km of Ploiesti, at 400 meters of altitude.
The salt mine is closed for extraction purposes, but is open for visitors, featuring a microclimate with natural air-conditioning and constant temperature and atmospheric pressure throughout the year. It is made up of two levels, named Unirea and Mihai.
The mine is composed of 14 chambers with trapezoidal profiles, having a 10 m opening to the ceiling and 32 m to the ground, a height of 54 m, and a wall inclination angle of 60 degrees. The shore difference between the surface and the mining base is 208 m. It was transformed into a sanatorium for the treatment of pulmonary diseases in a saline air microclimate. Many of the visitors come for its supposed healing effects due to the purity of the air.

By OnePH News: One of the lawyers of Juanito Jose Remulla III, the son of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla who was acquitted of illegal drug possession charges, dismisses claims that there is an 'irregularity' in the speed of his trial, which was resolved in 75 days.

Atty. Pearlito Campanilla tells #TheChiefs on Thursday, that the court simply followed the Supreme Court's guidelines on continuous trial for drug-related cases.

"We really believed that the prosecution [has] a very weak case, and that our client, is ang conviction lang namin, talagang he's really innocent. So, ginusto namin iyang continuous trial," Campanilla says.

Campanilla also explains why he thinks other accused waive their right to continuous trial.

"Iyong iba naman, talagang hindi naga-avail for one reason or another because siguro sabi nila mas beneficial kung patatagalin nila iyong kaso, that will give them more time to prepare, to gather more evidence, to prepare their witnesses," he adds.

According to the Supreme Court's revised guidelines for continuous trial of criminal cases, the trial period for drug charges shall be "finished not later than 60 days from filing of information", and that the decision should be made within "15 days from the submission of case for resolution".

5,500-Year-Old Sumerian Star Map

"For over 150 years scientists have tried to solve the mystery of a controversial cuneiform clay tablet that indicates the so-called Köfel's impact event was observed in ancient times. The circular stone-cast tablet was recovered from the 650 BC underground library of King Ashurbanipal in Nineveh, Iraq in the late 19th century. Long thought to be an Assyrian tablet, computer analysis has matched it with the sky above Mesopotamia in 3300 BC and proves it to be of much more ancient Sumerian origin. The tablet is an "Astrolabe," the earliest known astronomical instrument. It consists of a segmented, disk-shaped star chart with marked units of angle measure inscribed upon the rim

Genevieve was a 5th century French peasant girl turned nun, whose piety was believed to have been responsible for saving Paris from the Attila the Hun. After her death and canonization, Genevieve's shrine and relics were carried through the streets of Paris at times of crisis. Such a procession was popularly believed to have ended a deadly 12th century epidemic, adding to her prestige and adoration and making her shrine a popular destination for pilgrims.

But during the violence of the French Revolution toward all things associated with the Church, St. Genevieve was not spared. On October 22, 1793, the revolutionaries melted down her famous and venerated shrine, her bones were burned, and her ashes were thrown into the Seine. St-Étienne-du-Mont, the church where her shrine and relics had been kept, was transformed into a "shrine of reason" renamed the "Temple of Filial Piety."

Fortunately, however, not all physical evidence of St. Genevieve's resting place is gone. St-Étienne-du-Mont was reconsecrated in 1801 and within it, over the slab that her tomb once sat upon (her tombstone), there is now a beautiful ornate (albeit empty) tomb of St. Genevieve.

Today is the Feast Day of St. Genevieve, patron saint of Paris. She died on January 3, 512, one thousand five hundred eleven years ago today.
