An enormous cloud of hot gas enveloping two large, colliding galaxies in the system known as NGC 6240. Scientists have used Chandra to make a detailed study of this unusually large reservoir of gas contains as much mass as 10 billion Suns, spans about 300,000 light years, radiates at a temperature of more than 7 million degrees, and glows in X-rays (purple).

this new thing, this new big blue-colored letters that mean links, invariably to facebook, is too big for comfort, it is as if it puts everything else to second fiddle.  everything else becomes an excuse for a background.  can't facebook, if it's responsible for this, make it the size of all the other letters if it can't help but invade tubagbohol this way?  even our personal posts are being polluted!  whew!

please don't tell anybody not to post, be it in this thread that you started or any other thread.  tubagbohol is a forum, thus it should stand as a site for different ideas, opinions, information, even rants, whenever tolerable i suppose.  i am in tubagbohol because of this.  surely others here have similar reasons.  to read something that purports to limit other members' entries in relation to yours smacks of tyranny.  maybe it's time you have your own blog where you can set the rules, like not allowing any comment at all.

May 02, 2013, 07:37:17 PM
at this very moment, i can see some words on tb, be they posts or topic titles, with enlarged, doubly underscored, and colored green selected words and phrases, with no rhyme and reason for their selection except that it leads to facebook.  it is very invasive.  is this a new thing in this forum, mr webmaster?  or did i press some wrong key somewhere to make these appear?  i hope it's not an alien invasion because it is very irritating.

Roger Craig Smith (Sonic the Hedgehog)
Smith has voiced the speedy hedgehog since 2010 (Ryan Drummond held the job from 1998-2004, but moved on after he was asked to quit his union.) He's also the voice of Chris Redfield in the Resident Evil series and, perhaps most bizarrely, the narrator for TLC's reality series "Say Yes the Dress." (Photo credit: Sega/Roger Craig Smith)

#22243

David Hayter (Solid Snake)
Hayter's a double-treat in the entertainment world. As a voice actor, he has brought life to Solid Snake in the Metal Gear series since 1998. When he's not in a sound studio, Hayter's likely at a typewriter. In addition to his vocal work, he also wrote the screenplay for “X-Men” and co-wrote “The Scorpion King” and “X2.” (Photo credit: Konami/David Hayter)
#22244

Kevin Conroy (Batman)
Conroy's not just the voice of Batman in the critically-acclaimed Arkham City and Arkham Asylum games -- he speaks for the Dark Knight in Batman: The Animated Series and its various spin-offs. A graduate of Julliard, he roomed at the school's drama division with Robin Williams. (Photo credit: Warner Bros. Interactive/Getty Images)
#22245

Terrence C. Carson (Kratos)
Kratos is an angry warrior in the God of War series, but Carson's a pretty easygoing guy. He most famously played Kyle Barker on the FOX series “Living Single” and was seen last November/December as one of the mall carolers in the Marshalls/T.J. Maxx commercial. He's also the voice double for Samuel L. Jackson's Mace Windu in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. (Photo credit: Sony/Getty Images)
#22246

Ellen McLain (GLaDOS)
If McLain weren't the voice behind the passive-aggressive AI antagonist in Portal, GLaDOS probably wouldn't be so musically inclined. Beyond her voice work, McLain's also an opera singer. She's also a go-to person for Valve Software, having appeared in Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Portal, and Team Fortress 2. She’s also making a vocal appearance in Guillermo Del Toro’s upcoming giant monster movie, “Pacific Rim.” (Photo credit: Valve Software/Ellen McLain)
#22247

Nolan North (Nathan Drake)
North turned heads with his performance as Uncharted's hunky lead, but he's hardly restricted to that franchise. He's Assassin's Creed's Desmond Miles. He voiced The Penguin in Batman: Arkham City. He's portrayed Deadpool in a number of Marvel games. He's even had a steady role in the Zombies mode of several Call of Duty games. If there's a go-to voice actor in the gaming world, North's it. #22250

Jen Taylor (Cortana)
Taylor is voice-over royalty. While best known as Cortana, Master Chief's AI companion in the Halo series, she has also voiced Mario’s Princess Peach, Left 4 Dead's Zoey, and Cate Archer in No One Lives Forever 2. It's not all games, however: she’s also an in-demand narrator for audio books. (Photo credit: Microsoft)
#22251
a real cute character.  too bad wa pa gyod ko kadungog ani niya.
#22252

Steve Downes (Master Chief)
When he's not fighting off the Covenant as Halo’s hero, Downes is likely spinning Alice Cooper or Aerosmith. A classic rock DJ who hosts a morning show on Chicago's WDRV, he didn't really give much thought to the character until he found himself swamped by kids asking for an autograph when he was visiting a friend in Florida. (Photo credit: Microsoft/343 Industries)
#22253

Camilla Luddington (Lara Croft)
Luddington, a regular on "Grey's Anatomy," isn't the first to voice Tomb Raider's heroine, but her terrific work in the recent reboot of the series is the one most people identify with these days. All totaled, five actresses have voiced the character in her history: Shelley Blond (1996), Judith Gibbins (1997-1998), Jonell Elliott (1999-2003), Keeley Hawes (2006-2010) and Luddington. (Photo credit: Square-Enix)
#22254

Charles Martinet (Mario)
Martinet is best known as Mario -- a voice he’s been handling since the mid-1990s -- but his contributions to the Nintendo world don't stop there. He's also the voice of Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Toadsworth, Baby Mario and Baby Luigi. Wondering what Mario sounded like before Martinet landed the role? Find a copy of Super Mario Bros. 3 to hear a much deeper, raspier version of the portly plumber. (Photo credit: Nintendo)

May 02, 2013, 03:55:15 PM
Quote from: balong on May 01, 2013, 05:15:38 PMmy $10 is equal in buying power to a $10 food stamp. it is not really a stamp but an EBT card something like a credit card. you can buy food with it but not cigarettes or beer.

wikipedia says as much about this new term and digitizing what was once known as food stamps (sigun sa anad; morag osmena blvd. sa cebu city nga nganlan lang gihapon ug jones ave.)  it saves on paper printing.

so patas mo, the same buying power.  then why are those who use cash complaining about those who use ebt?  because those who use cash are the ones paying for the ebt?  owww, that's what socializing chances, through welfare, is all about.  advanced countries can afford that.  (in fact, mas makatarantar ang welfare budget sa europe compared to that of the u.s.)  if only we had this in the philippines... sa ato, ang gutom, tungod gyod tawon kay way makaon.

some sense here can be had.  those who have more than what they need could mean that others have been deprived.  so those who have more can always give back to society, through welfare.  you yourself are doing it to a certain extent-- you are giving back by way of your donations, right?

be that as it may, wikipedia talks of averages.  and i know that wikipedia has a slew of editors who can review what are posted, unlike michael snyder's one-man job blog.  so you can see those whose grocery carts are filled up with purchases using food stamps; they may have saved their food stamps for months.  why take it against them when you yourself can shop with cash and can consider yourself lucky?

is this a research-based claim?  what size is the cart?  what kind of store?  is your 200 dollars less in buying power than a 10-dollar food stamp (aka SNAP)?

As of September 2012, 47.7 million Americans were receiving on average $134.29 per month in food assistance. (wikipedia)

would $134.29 a month on the average in food stamps per family outdo your weekly budget for groceries?

Quote from: balong on May 01, 2013, 02:24:42 PMThe shortages and rationing of ammunition at gun shops all over America just seem to keep getting worse.  The following is from an article by a gun owner down in Texas named Brad Meyer…

a cursory search showed 25 professional brad meyers, 7 of them in fort worth in texas alone.  i couldn't as yet find the article written by meyer that's being referred to by snyder.  this could be a wild goose chase, if i have the leisure.

as it is, i know one of the tricks of writing... name-drop, quote someone for credibility or reference, or use the phrase "informed sources" or "unnamed sources", all the works.  it's a common trick to namedrop a name shared by many.  that way, each brad meyer will think the other brad meyer is the one being referred to... ad nauseam, if this be the case here.  just a thought...

UNPRECEDENTED Shortages Of Ammo, Physical Gold And Physical Silver

By Michael Snyder (The Economic Collapse Blog | Original Link) April 26, 2013

who are they?

let's start with the author...

Michael T. Snyder (born October 9, 1989) is a fundamentalist Christian crank who has started numerous blogs as a testament to his raging insane belief that the world is about to end. He started with The Economic Collapse Blog in 2007, with constant articles stating how the world is going to hell every single day since the meltdown started in 2007. It seems as though Snyder blames the government for every ill in the world, because without it everything would be great.

Like most doom-sayers, it doesn't seem to faze Snyder one bit that every one of his past predictions of economic collapse were dead wrong. He simply refuses to even address or acknowledge that he has been wrong thousands of times, especially if you count each numbered item of his massive lists. He seems to have explosive diarrhea of the mind that no amount of logic can slow or stop.

Who is this nut?

Michael T. Snyder states on his contact page that he is an undergraduate in Commerce from the University of Virginia, and possesses a law degree with an LLM (legal emphasis, not stated) from the University of Florida law school. He has supposedly worked in "numerous Washington DC lawfirms", but quit to live outside of Seattle and rage at the world through the internet. Or as Snyder puts it "now I mostly focus on trying to make a difference in the world."

He also states very clearly "I am a Christian, but I believe that most of the churches in America have gotten way off track." Snyder has recently posted a statement of faith in which he states that he believes that the Bible is literally true and that Jesus is coming down in person soon to start the end times to punish all the non-believers. After which Jesus will start his thousand year reign over Earth.

Otherwise Snyder is very tight lipped about himself, which makes it hard to find out what drove him mad.

and when people, specifically americans, start including ammo, gold and silver in their diet, it is their president's fault?  yes, i'm really glad i'm in the philippines.  i can never think of blaming our government or our president if i cannot buy bullets for my gun because i want to put down someone, or that i must have those gold and silver or i shall die because they're not available, because our government is at fault, because our president is inutile.

i always read the other side. mainstream tv and newspapers. it's you miss isles who must open your eyes

include far left in your readings to counter the far right that you hold.  mainstream is the center one, with certain marked leanings to either way...

though they may only be slits, unfortunately my eyes are open, with much objectivity from a distance.  when the eyes are open thus, i won't, and can't, blame obama if my savings hit bottom or i have nothing on my plate for my next meal, and never will i blame pnoy either, so to speak.  there are market forces and there are the greedy.  any country's president can't stop them all.  unless he is vladimir putin... ;D

where there's smoke there's fire. im not making mountains out of molehills.

there is such a thing as a smoke maker used specially in stage productions, including concerts.

so the adage that where there's smoke there's fire had run its course together with the wigwams on the prairies.  some smokes have fire, others haven't.  oh, okay then.  earth mounds, not molehills, can now be seen as mountains. ;D

Are they all dead?

No. Some of  the stars that you can see at night may be long gone, with the light from their death yet to reach us. But plenty more are still burning bright right now, although we see them as younger than they actually are. As well as that, new stars are being born all the time- there will be many burning at this moment that we can't see yet because their light hasn't had time to reach us.

So yes, some are dead, but some are very much alive, and some are there but yet to be seen!

The image below shows the results of the Hubble Ultra Deep Field experiment. The Hubble Space Telescope was pointed at a tiny patch of sky that appeared to be empty to any ground-based telescopes, and the shutter left open for just under one million seconds (about 11 days). This is what it saw:

Each spot of light in this image is an entire galaxy. There are around ten thousand of them here, some of which were around only a few hundred million years after the universe first came into being. Most of these, although we can see them now, are long gone, and possibly even replaced by other younger galaxies that we won't be able to see for many billions of years.

Let's go further out, to the next closest star to us, Proxima Centauri. That's so far away that it takes light four years to get here (it's four 'light years' away). It's not likely to do so, but if it popped out of existence, exploded or turned into a giant frog right now, we wouldn't know anything about it for another four years.

Now think about all the other stars up there- most of them are much, much further away: hundreds, thousands, millions and billions of light years away. If a star is a million light years away, and it died a million years ago, we'll see it die now. If another star died four million years ago, but is a hundred million light years away, we'll still be able to see it for another 96 million years.
