this pope is truly, undeniably cerebral.  one day in the far future, i will not be surprised if history were to judge him as the pope who held the church together, doctrinally, in one of its most trying times.

He is definitely into doctrines and he is all about the holiness of human beings... his new evangelisation thing 8)

THE POPE: MONOTHEISM DOES NOT GENERATE VIOLENCE

Vatican City, 7 December 2012 (VIS) - Benedict XVI today received in audience the members of the International Theological Commission following their plenary session. The Pope expressed his appreciation for the message prepared by the Commission regarding the Year of Faith, which "illustrates well the specific way in which theologians, in loyal service to the truth of faith, may share the Church's evangelising impulse".

The message revisits the themes developed more fully in the document "Theology today, Prospectives, Principles and Criteria", which embodies, in a sense, "the genetic code of Catholic theology, or rather, the principles which define her identity and as a consequence, guarantee her unity in the diversity of her manifestations. ... In a cultural context in which some have been tempted to deprive theology of its academic status on account of its intrinsic links to faith, or to disregard the confessional aspect of theology, at the risk of confusing it with religious sciences, your document provides a timely reminder that theology is in essence confessional and rational, and its presence within university institutions guarantees a broad and complete vision of human reason".

The Pope mentioned that among the criteria of Catholic theology, the document mentions the attention theologians should reserve for the 'sensus fidelium'. "Vatican Council II, confirming the specific and irreplaceable role of the Magisterium, emphasised that the People of God as a whole participate in Christ's prophetic role. ... This gift, the 'sensus fidei', constitutes in believers a sort of supernatural instinct which shares a vital connaturality with the very object of faith. ... It is a criterion for ascertaining whether or not a certain truth belongs to the living depository of the apostolic tradition. It also has a proactive value as the Holy Spirit never ceases to speak of the Church and to guide her towards the fullness of truth. Nowadays, however, it is particularly important to specify the criteria which permit the authentic 'sensus fidelium' to be distinguished from its imitations. This is not in fact a form of ecclesial public opinion, and it would be unthinkable to refer to it to challenge the teachings of the Magisterium, since the 'sensus fidei' cannot truly develop in a believer other than to the extent to which he participates fully in the life of the Church, and it therefore necessitates responsible adhesion to her Magisterium".

"Nowadays, this supernatural sense of the faith of believers leads to a vigorous reaction against the prejudice according to which religions, and in particular monotheistic religions, are intrinsically predisposed to violence, especially on the pretext that they lay claim to a universal truth. Some maintain that only a 'polytheism of values' would guarantee tolerance and civil peace by conforming to the spirit of a pluralistic democratic society. ... On the one hand, it is important to remember that faith in one God, the Creator of heaven and earth, meets the rational demands of metaphysical reflection, which is not weakened, but rather strengthened and deepened by the Revelation of the mystery of the Triune God. On the other hand, it is necessary to emphasise the form that the definitive Revelation of the mystery of the Triune God takes in the life and death of Jesus Christ, led unto the cross like 'a lamb that is led to the slaughter'. The Lord offers a radical refusal of any form of hate or violence in favour of the absolute primacy of agape. While throughout history there have been or indeed there are forms of violence carried out in the name of God, these cannot be attributed to monotheism, but rather to historical causes, and in particular to human error. It is, rather, an oblivion to God that immerses human society in a form of relativism, which ineluctably generates violence. Once the possibility of referring to a form of objective truth is negated to all, dialogue becomes impossible and violence, whether declared or concealed, becomes the rule governing human relations. Without opening up to the transcendent, which enables us to find answers to our questions on the meaning of life and how to live in a moral fashion, man becomes incapable of acting with justice or committing himself to peace".

"If the rupture in man's relations with God brings with it a profound imbalance in relations within mankind itself, reconciliation with God brought about by Christ on the Cross, 'our peace', is the fundamental source of unity and fraternity", continued the Holy Father. "This also links to your discussion on the social doctrine of the Church within the doctrine of the faith as a whole. It confirms that social doctrine is not an extrinsic addition but, without neglecting the contribution of a healthy social philosophy, draws its basic principles from the same source as faith. This doctrine renders effective, in the great variety of social situations, the new commandment that the Lord Jesus gave to us: 'Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another'".

Bible Study / God's Benevolent Plan for Humanity
December 06, 2012, 03:43:04 PM
GOD'S BENEVOLENT PLAN FOR HUMANITY

Vatican City, 5 December 2012 (VIS) - God's "benevolent plan" for mankind, which begins St. Paul's Letter to the Ephesians, was the theme of the Holy Father's catechesis at today's general audience. The great hymn that the apostle Paul raised to God "introduces us to living in the time of Advent, in the context of the Year of Faith. The theme of this hymn of praise is God's plan for mankind, defined in terms of joy, stupefaction and thankfulness, ... of mercy and love", said the Pope.

The Apostle elevated this blessing to God because he "looked upon his actions throughout the history of salvation, culminating in the incarnation, death and resurrection of Jesus, and contemplated how the celestial Father chose us, even before the foundation of the world, to become His adoptive children, in his only Son, Jesus Christ. ... God's 'benevolent plan', which the Apostle also describes as a 'plan of love', is defined as 'the mystery' of divine will, hidden and then disclosed in the Person and work of Christ. The initiative precedes any human response; it is the freely given gift of his love, which envelops and transforms us.

"What is the ultimate aim of this mysterious plan? It is to recapitulate all things in Christ; "this means that in the great design of creation and history, Christ is placed at the centre of the world's entire path, as the axis upon which everything turns, drawing all of reality to Him, in order to overcome dispersion and limits, and to lead all to fullness in God".

However, "this benevolent plan", explained Benedict XVI, "did not remain concealed in God's silence, in the heights of His Heaven; instead, He brought it to our knowledge by entering into a relationship with man, to whom He revealed His very being. He did not simply communicate a series of truths, but instead He communicated Himself to us, He showed Himself as one of us, to the extent of taking on human flesh. ... This communion in Christ, through the work of the Holy Spirit, offered by God to all mankind in the light of His self- revelation, does not merely correspond to our humanity, but is instead the fulfilment of its deepest aspirations, and introduces it to a joy which is neither temporal nor limited, but eternal".

"In view of this, what is, then, the act of faith? It is man's response to God's self-revelation, by which He shows His 'benevolent plan' for humanity. ... it is allowing oneself to be seized by God's Truth, a Truth that is Love. ... All this leads to a ... true 'conversion', a 'change of mentality', because the God Who has revealed Himself to us in Christ and has shown us His plan captures us and draws us to Him, becoming the meaning that sustains our life and the rock on which it finds stability".

The Holy Father concluded by recalling that Advent "places us before the luminous mystery of the coming of the Son of God and the great 'benevolent plan' by which He sought to draw us to Him, to allow us to live in full communion of joy and peace with Him. Advent invites us, in spite of the many difficulties we encounter, to renew our certainty of the presence of God: He came into the world, in human flesh like ours, to fully realise his plan of love. And God asks that we too become signs of His action in the world. Through our faith, hope and charity, He wishes us to make His light shine anew in our night"

i will show these pictures to my banana republic.  he can analyze strokes much better than i can.  we can look for this artist in tagbilaran one day.  i hope we can afford his work.

Oh I know he's very affordable... as in he would do it for almost for nothing to anyone who asks. I always hear him say "if you are really interested I'll do it for free." On my part (ako experience) ako lang siya pahinungdan. But of course, di sad baya ko barat mopahinungod. That's how I show my appreciation.

In case, he's in a selling mood, I still find him to be the cheapest artist around (butbthe best in what he does). He's the most reslistic painter I've ever seen sa ato o elsewhere.

Mga tawo diri sa New Orlesns who saw his work all wanted him to come here and do painting at the French Quartet. Nabuang silag tinutok sa iyang works hehehe

aherm.  i have a confession...

si banana republic didn't grow up a catholic.  but he was willing to convert.  he was baptized right before our wedding ceremony.  short cut, sa pinurol nga pagkasulti.  he received three sacraments in less than an hour-- baptism, matrimony, eucharist.

i believe the priest (a close family friend who happens to be one of the three canon lawyers of the cebu archdiocese at the time) took the short cut because his priority was for us to have a catholic wedding.  catechism came later, slowly, from me.  but he's the bible expert.  we have no religious issues.

i hope that even if the process of conversion seemed somewhat inverted (convert now, study later), it did not in any way negate his being catholic?

Not at all. Once baptized you're baptized. Even with catechism classes before initiation one cannot claim he/she has expertise on faith and therefore makes him good enough candidate for the sacraments. Gi bunyagan ni sila becsuse the Church believed it was God's will that they receive God's loving grace... not because they deserved it. After all, ang Ginoo man ang nag initiate ani tanan, igo man lang ta ni respond.

Dili jud ma imagine or ma fathom ang kasakit nga bation sa ginikanan nga mamatyag anak, or maski masakit lang. Morag ge kuso2 imong kasing2 ana ug imong huna2. Will be praying for the baby and your friends and family. Will offer everything to God, the God of mercy and comfort.

Usually this RCIA lasts about 6-7 months, from September through Easter!
#2296
Then at around LENT dunay gitawag nga INQUIRY stages nga for 3 Sundays, during Mass, mo inquire ang pari sa Director sa RCIA and the godparents as to the readiness of the candidates. Then the priest with the whole parish will pray over the candidates. Then after homily, before the Profession of Faith, they are being sent off to further reflect the Word of God. Di pa sila pwede mo join sa Profession of Faith kay di paman sila Catholics and they are not yet ready for baptism or full communion. Sa Easter Vigil pa na sila mahimong full-fledged Catholics... as in full-fledged jud with baptism, confession, first communion and confirmation, all at the same night during the Easter Vigil.

During the course of the program, the candidates for baptism or full communion will be initiated into the CATECHUMENATE where they become CATECHUMENS or official candidate for baptism or full communion. At this stage, lain napong evangelization classes. Medyo advance stage na ni.

pero ang pangutana nako, kung nabunyagan ka og catholic unya nabunyagan ka og laing religion after that, kung ganahan ka mubalik og pagka-catholic, pabunyag ba ka og balik og catolico?

I hope this will help. Here in the U.S. we have a program called R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) wherein a person of adult age interested in becoming a Catholic or even a non-Catholic wishing to join into full communion with the Roman Catholic Church... Or even a former Catholic who left the faith now wanting to resume being Catholic... usa ni ka tuig nga klase getting familiar with the Catholic faith. Then kung tan-aw sa director or pari nga ready na sila bunyagan, they will be initiated into the faith... going through diffrent steps of course.

i cannot believe that only catholics can receive grace.  non-catholics may not have the grace of the sacraments as we know them, but by being good and true and virtuous they stand to deserve graces from a creator in whatever form of worship they take him to be.

AMEN!!!
