Wise men say only fools rush in
But I can't help falling in love with you
Shall I stay
Would it be a sin
If I can't help falling in love with you
Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I can't help falling in love with you
Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I can't help falling in love with you
For I can't help falling in love with you

O most merciful and almighty God,
You bestowed as gift to Lorenzo Ruiz
The strength to withstand
The overpowering forces of death
For the sake of his faith in You.

Through his prayers,
Help us to follow his example
By overcoming all life’s trials
And eventually, increase
Our hope and love in You.

O St. Lorenzo Ruiz,
You brought honor to your country,
Having been a level-headed
And prudent father of the family,
A witness of Christ in your life
Until your death.

We present all our petitions
To God through your help
So that by our actions,
We may know more and love more
Jesus our Lord and Savior.

We humbly implore
Your intercession O dear St. Lorenzo,
For the infinite glory of God
And in honor of your triumph
As a martyr of Christ
And defender of Christianity.

Amen.

Lorenzo Ruiz is the first Filipino saint. He is also the first Filipino martyred for the Christian Faith. Lorenzo Ruiz was a layman, married, and had two sons and a daughter. Born in Binondo, Manila, about 1600's, he was educated in the school of the Dominicans there. He served as an altar boy and later was a helper and clerk-sacristan in the church of Binondo. He was a member of the Confraternity of the Rosary. He made his living probably as a calligrapher, one who renders documents in beautiful penmanship for private or official use. To be sure, that work denoted an accomplished and educated person, especially at a time when many an illustrious personage were far from excelling in this art. An adverse event made him leave the Philippines in 1636. When he was in his late twenties or early thirties, he became involved or was accused of being involved in a criminal case, the circumstances of which are far from clear. Whether he was involved or not, one thing was clear, he was afraid that, as a consequence of a trial or mistrial, he might be given a death sentence. Upon landing in Japan where Christians were being persecuted, he was arrested and imprisoned together with his companions. He underwent inhuman tortures and valiantly confessed his Christian Faith. Refusing to renounce his Faith, he told his executioner that he was ready to die for God and give himself for many thousands of lives if he had them. On September 27, 1637, he was hung from a gallows by his feet, his body falling into a pit. After two days of agony, he died of bleeding and suffocation. His body was cremated and the ashes thrown into the sea. He and fifteen companions, martyred in the same persecution, were beatified by Pope John Paul II in Manila on February 18, 1981 and elevated to full honors of the altar by canonization on October 18, 1987 in Rome. Their feast day is on September 28th.

O good St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin, you were taught by God to love the Passion of Jesus and to remember the Sorrows of Mary His Mother. By her side, you stood by the Cross of Jesus and shared her compassion.  Following her, you grew in love for God and all His people. O St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin, we humbly ask you to intercede before God on our behalf, especially for the intentions we now present before you.

       * For our vocation promotion endeavors
       * For all the women whom God is calling to join our monastic family
       * For the spiritual and temporal needs of our novitiate members, the novice directress and her assistant
       * for all who pass through this novitiate - this holy training ground - that they will respond generously to God’s graces poured out in their hearts during this time of intense formation

We place our trust in your prayers St. Gabriel and wish to follow your example. Remember us, and especially our youth, with compassion. Support us all our days by your holy prayers. And when this life is done, may we join you in heaven in the company of Jesus and Mary.  Amen!

(1838-1862 )

Born in Italy into a large family and baptized Francis, he lost his mother when he was only four years old. He was educated by the Jesuits and, having been cured twice of serious illnesses, came to believe that God was calling him to the religious life. Young Francis wished to join the Jesuits but was turned down, probably because of his age, not yet 17. Following the death of a sister to cholera, his resolve to enter religious life became even stronger and he was accepted by the Passionists. Upon entering the novitiate he was given the name Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows.

Ever popular and cheerful, Gabriel quickly was successful in his effort to be faithful in little things. His spirit of prayer, love for the poor, consideration of the feelings of others, exact observance of the Passionist Rule as well as his bodily penancesâ€"always subject to the will of his wise superiorsâ€" made a deep impression on everyone.

His superiors had great expectations of Gabriel as he prepared for the priesthood, but after only four years of religious life symptoms of tuberculosis appeared. Ever obedient, he patiently bore the painful effects of the disease and the restrictions it required, seeking no special notice. He died peacefully on February 27, 1862, at age 24, having been an example to both young and old.

Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows was canonized in 1920.

Dear Alice,

How long has it been since we strolled central park and enjoyed the classic new york sun? How long as it been since we chose random coffee houses in downtown Manhattan. The last time i saw you was almost half a decade ago. Your soft kiss on my cheeks. How precious it is, to smile and to be joyful. I received your letter in the mail last week and do not know how to respond. That you remembered me?

If you find this net-letter, then, let it be known that i miss you, dear friend. Oh if only we were closer together, i could sure use those precious 'coffee talks' right now.

Dearest,
Lorenz

Fr. Roel is a very good man, and a model priest, in my honest opinion. I would rank him with my very good friend and spiritual advisor, Fr. Mark  Hoffman (he was the one who encouraged me to be confirmed).

As I said in my previous post, don't let the few bad priests tarnish the name and the good the majority of our holy priests do and continue to do.

Peace and Blessings!

It is crucial for professionals to know the boundaries of their own competence and to refer clients/patients to other professionals when working with them is beyond their professional training or when personal factors would interfere with a productive working relationship/therapeutic relationship.

After counseling with a psychiatric patient for a few sessions, for example, you may determine that he or she needs more intensive therapy than you're qualified to offer.

if it wasn't, why didn't he simply go down and not run again after two terms because in the first place that was all that the 1935 constitution allowed him?  by 1972, he was already on his second and last term as president.  political analysts were already wagging that he was bound to stay longer.  everything in him, words and deeds, led those keen enough to understand human nature that it wasn't in him to give up power that easily.

Reply:

The presidential election was to be held in the month of November 1972. Marcos declared Martial Law on September 21, 1972. The election scheduled in November was cancelled and Marcos by virtue of Martial Law had a hold over power. Other political opinion at that time said that Marcos was right in his declaration of Martial Law. If Marcos stood down the communists will have taken over power.

Quote:

1971 constitutional convention

When news broke out that Marcos planned to amend the constitution, allowing him to run for a third term in the presidential elections of 1973, student-led protests erupted in the streets, in what has since become known as the First Quarter Storm of 1970.  Later, student movements also led the Diliman Commune of February 1971.  Despite the violent protests, the Constitutional Convention still convened in June 1971.

Reply:

Ninoy Aquino was part of this plan to overthrow Marcos. He was caught in a tape recorded conversation with the communists. The university students of Manila were used as tool to create  chaos. In January of 1973 the new constitution was ratified by the people and came into effect.

Quote:

1986 snap elections

The snap elections were finally held on 7 February 1986, with Cory Aquino and Salvador “Doy” Laurel running against Marcos and Aurelio Tolentino for the presidency and the vice-presidency.  The heavily-anticipated elections were marred by vote-buying, oppression, and fraudulent results; with Commission on Elections (COMELEC) results were in favor of Marcos while the National Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL) results were in favor of Aquino.  In protest, thirty computer operators walk out of the COMELEC tabulation center during the tabulation two days after the election.

Reply:

The allegation of oppression and fraudulent results in the snap election are not true. There was no oppression because Marcos was already established "name" among the people in the countryside. Marcos won because he had the political machinery and Cory Aquino with her saliva only. If I'm not telling you the truth then ask any politician worth his salt if a candidate without a political machinery can win in a national election.

Those who committed fraud in that election was Joe Concepcion and his Namfrel by manipulating the results through trending... which is why Comelec had a different result than Namfrel. The walked out of the computer operators was staged to show to the world media that the election was a farce. The real reason of all this election drama was the opposition knew they cannot defeat Marcos in a national election.

* * *

Quote:

One of the most brutal incidents that happened in connection with the snap elections was the killing of lawyer Evelio Javier, opposition ex-governor of Antique, on 11 February 1986.  Javier was chased and shot to death in broad daylight at the provincial capitol.  The assassination was considered as one of the tipping points that led to the revolution. At his funeral mass, the official statement of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines was read, condemning the elections. (wikipedia)

Reply:

I agree. They made Evelio Javier a rallying point to their cause to oust Marcos by any means. It is also the same thing today in the massacre of people in Mindanao by the Ampatuan.

Reply:

The PFP should understand that publishing the "truth is always an overmatch" for lies and falsehood. But like the Philippine Free Press whether the disputed issue is a lie doesn't matter as long as contending parties pay the PFP well. The ethical point here is to rectify what had been published as lies and falsehood. But not for the PFP!

Before Martial Law when Ninoy Aquino's popularity as a critic of Marcos got hold of dossiers pertaining to Muslims massacred [This was known as the Jabidah Massacre.] by the military in Corregidor the PFP and other anti Marcos newspapers bannered the story without even bothering to investigate whether there is truth to their story. Ninoy in a privilege speech spoke of a massacre in congress and that a certain recruit named Arula who survived the massacre was picked up by fishermen in Manila Bay. This was not true and Ninoy believing his own lies went to Sulo to inquire about the person Arula after his speech in congress and he cannot find such a person.

Marcos allegedly signed an approval to recruit Muslims to be trained clandestinely by the military to sabotage Sabah. In an act of treachery in the person of Ninoy; he divulged to the world of a massacre of muslim in Corregidor. The story of a massacre was a myth creating a crisis for the Philippines when the Australian and the New Zealand navies were deployed right in front of Palawan in defense of Malaysia... an ally in the British commonwealth. The British deployed also the Gurkha Fighters in Sabah to help Malaysia in case the Philippines invade Sabah or North Borneo.

The Philippine government apologized to the Malaysian and the British Commonwealth saying that it was only part of the free rolling Philippine press. But the PFP and other anti Marcos newspapers never rectify their story.

WN

The Malaysians (with the help of the British Forces and Australian Forces) was able to defeat the Indonesian-Malaysian Konfrontasi. The result of which led to Sukarno's loss of legitimacy and an administration change in Indonesia.

I would deign to add that Marcos, who was a law bar top-knotcher, was not as stupid as Sukarno in engaging the Malaysians (with their Commonwealth clout). Tho the state of Malaysia is a British invention and despite North Borneo's historical relations with the Philippines, Marcos knew there really was nothing he could do after Malaysia proved itself that it could defend her right to national sovereignty.

Tho it may be argued and discussed that Marcos was corrupt etc etc, in the end, the man authored over 90 Republic Acts, all of which are still in effect to this day.

I would like to share a rhetorical question to the rest in here: If he was so bad and if his presence in the Philippines was negative, then why didn't the presidential administrations after Marcos repudiate the some 92 Republic Acts that Marcos authored?

Again it is always in an election. Remember revolution is always illegal.

aha! Your post reminds me of the famous jest Francois la Rochefoucauld-Liancourt once said, "“The young are generally full of revolt, and are often pretty revolting about it.”

Bible Study / Roman Catholic Morning Prayers
May 06, 2011, 04:09:38 AM

It’s always good upon rising to make the Sign of the Cross (“In the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”) followed by a Morning Offering, like this one below:

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer You my prayers, works, joys and sufferings of this day for all the intentions of Your Sacred Heart, in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, in reparation for my sins, for the intentions of all my relatives and friends, and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father. Amen.

O Holy St Jude!
Apostle and Martyr,
great in virtue and rich in miracles,
near kinsman of Jesus Christ,
faithful intercessor for all who invoke you,
special patron in time of need;
to you I have recourse from the depth of my heart,
and humbly beg you,
to whom God has given such great power,
to come to my assistance;
help me now in my urgent need and grant my earnest petition.
I will never forget thy graces and favors you obtain for me
and I will do my utmost to spread devotion to you.Amen.

St. Jude, pray for us and all who honor thee and invoke thy aid.
(Say 3 Our Father's, 3 Hail Mary’s, and 3 Glory Be’s after this.)

Bible Study / Prayer for St. Jude's Intercession
May 06, 2011, 04:06:55 AM
Oh glorious apostle St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor who delivered thy beloved Master into the hands of His enemies has caused thee to be forgotten by many, but the Church honors and invokes thee universally as the patron of hopeless cases--of things despaired of. Pray for me who am so miserable; make use, I implore thee, of that particular privilege accorded thee of bringing visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need, that I may receive the consolations and succor of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, particularly (mention your request), and that I may bless God with thee and all the elect throughout eternity. I promise thee, O blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, and I will never cease to honor thee as my special and powerful patron, and to do all in my power to encourage devotion to thee. Amen

Bible Study / Jesus Christ Corrects the Priests
May 06, 2011, 03:42:19 AM
The Chief Priests asked Jesus, "By What Authority?"

27 They arrived again in Jerusalem, and while Jesus was walking in the temple courts, the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders came to him. 28 "By what authority are you doing these things?" they asked. "And who gave you authority to do this?"

29 Jesus replied, "I will ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. 30 John's baptism--was it from heaven, or from men? Tell me!"

31 They discussed it among themselves and said, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will ask, 'Then why didn't you believe him?' 32 But if we say, 'From men'...." (They feared the people, for everyone held that John really was a prophet.)

33 So they answered Jesus, "We don't know."

Jesus said, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things."

I miss how Lola made sabao and noodle soup. Lola was Chinese, and so she was really good at making egg drop soup and lo mein (the authentic cantonese style) :)

Whenever it was dinner time, i would always be amazed at the mix of food we had. We would have sabao nga baka (my lolo's favorite), piniritong isda , sinugbang nokos, adobong humba, fried rice, chinese noodles (cantonese style lo mein) and of course the incomparable Valencianhon ginamos (bolinaw). ay kalami!

Lola would always give me extra food kai lalake man ko. hahaha. Chinese style.

Oh man, she really made good lo mein. Nothing compares to Lola's cooking...nothing compares jyud..

My mother and sister are leaving for Bohol, Philippines this 8th of May. On the 10th they will arrive in Bohol. Then are immediately going to Valencia, Bohol.

My sister, Lorraine, has not been to Valencia since 1998. 13 years of absence.

I cannot help but think of my Lola Nating and my Lolo Ciano. I remember when we were younger, my Lola would call to my sister when it was time to eat, "Inday Angel, dali na Inday, mo kaon na ta la..."

In my lola's quaint and homely Valencianhon accent. :)

Ah, Lola Nating, na mingaw ko nimo. I miss and love you, Lola...

Several nights ago, during a drive from work, I stopped by the side of the road to attach my GPS before driving to work and as I was plugging it in, I saw the Image of the Holy Blessed Santo Nino in my dashboard. I looked at the Image and made the sign of the cross as always before driving. Before turning to my left (as i had my left hand blinker was already on) in my car, I glanced again at the Holy Child Jesus and because of that moment I stopped turning to the left. Exactly that moment when I looked at the Child Jesus, a large tractor trailer passed by my car at least going 80 mph.

I dropped what I was doing and Thanked God for this. If i did not look at the Holy Child Jesus the Blessed Santo Nino, I would have surely been in an accident.

I was very thankful to The Holy Santo Nino for this miracle. I remembered that it was the day that it was announced that Pope John Paul was announced to be called 'BLESSED'.

Truly a miraculous event for me. Thanks be to God.
