Uyoan `nasudlan’ og demonyo: brgy. tanod
Ni Guam P. Logroño
Tuesday, May 24, 2011

“Lami man diay ning imong atay, Day, uy.

Dili demonyo. Ang diagnosis ani ay:

Manic-Depressive Psychosis.

This man should have been given IV infusion of haloperidol.

Tuberculosis is endemic in the Philippines, considering the population density and the state of medical provisions in the country, particularly in relation to the rural communities.

What is the national government's initiative in curbing tuberculosis rates? How does this trickle down to the regional, provincial and ultimately municipal level?

#21304
Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis). You can get TB by breathing in air droplets from a cough or sneeze of an infected person. This is called primary TB.

In the United States, most people will recover from primary TB infection without further evidence of the disease. The infection may stay asleep or inactive (dormant) for years. However, in some people it can reactivate.

Most people who develop symptoms of a TB infection first became infected in the past. However, in some cases, the disease may become active within weeks after the primary infection.

The following people are at higher risk for active TB:

      Elderly

      Infants

People with weakened immune systems, for example due to AIDS, chemotherapy, diabetes, or certain medications

The drama queen: every incident or opportunity, no matter how insignificant, is exploited, exaggerated and if necessary distorted to become an event of dramatic proportions. Everything is elevated to crisis proportions. Histrionics may be present where the person feels she is not the centre of attention but should be. Inappropriate flirtatious behaviour may also be present.
#21306
The mind-poisoner: adept at poisoning peoples' minds by manipulating their perceptions of others, especially against the current target.
#21307
The manipulator: she may exploit family relationships, manipulating others with guilt and distorting perceptions; although she may not harm people physically, she causes everyone to suffer emotional injury. Vulnerable family members are favourite targets. A common attention-seeking ploy is to claim she is being persecuted, victimised, excluded, isolated or ignored by another family member or group, perhaps insisting she is the target of a campaign of exclusion or harassment.
#21308
The organiser: she may present herself as the one in charge, the one organising everything, the one who is reliable and dependable, the one people can always turn to. However, the objective is not to help people (this is only a means to an end) but to always be the centre of attention.
#21309
The saviour: in attention-seeking personality disorders like Munchausen Syndrome By Proxy (MSBP, also known as Factitious Disorder By Proxy) the person, usually female, creates opportunities to be centre of attention by intentionally causing harm to others and then being their saviour, by saving their life, and by being such a caring, compassionate person. Few people realise the injury was deliberate. The MSBP mother or nurse may kill several babies before suspicions are aroused. When not in saviour mode, the saviour may be resentful, perhaps even contemptuous, of the person or persons she is saving.

#21310
The sufferer: this might include feigning or exaggerating illness, playing on an injury, or perhaps causing or inviting injury, in extreme cases going as far as losing a limb. Severe cases may meet the diagnostic criteria for Munchausen Syndrome (also know as Factitious Disorder). The illness or injury becomes a vehicle for gaining sympathy and thus attention. The attention-seeker excels in manipulating people through their emotions, especially that of guilt. It's very difficult not to feel sorry for someone who relates a plausible tale of suffering in a sob story or "poor me" drama.

Attention-seeking is particularly noticeable with females so I've used the pronoun "she". Males also exhibit attention-seeking behaviour.

Attention seekers commonly exploit the suffering of others to gain attention for themselves. Or they may exploit their own suffering, or alleged suffering. In extreme forms, such as in Munchausen Syndrome By Proxy, the attention-seeker will deliberately cause suffering to others as a means of gaining attention.

tsk tsk tsk. its a shame really that it takes years of psychoanalytic psychotherapy or other forms of behavioral therapy such as psychodynamic psychotherapy to effect change in such persons...

Human beings are social creatures and need social interaction, feedback, and validation of their worth. The emotionally mature person doesn't need to go hunting for these; they gain it naturally from their daily life, especially from their work and from stable relationships. Daniel Goleman calls emotional maturity emotional intelligence, or EQ; he believes, and I agree, that EQ is a much better indicator of a person's character and value than intelligence quotient, or IQ.

Attention-seeking behaviour is surprisingly common. Being the centre of attention alleviates feelings of insecurity and inadequacy but the relief is temporary as the underlying problem remains unaddressed: low self-confidence and low self-esteem, and consequent low levels of self-worth and self-love.

Insecure and emotionally immature people often exhibit bullying behaviours, especially manipulation and deception. These are necessary in order to obtain attention which would not otherwise be forthcoming. Bullies and harassers have the emotional age of a young child and will exhibit temper tantrums, deceit, lying and manipulation to avoid exposure of their true nature and to evade accountability and sanction. This page lists some of the most common tactics bullies and manipulators employ to gain attention for themselves. An attention-seeker may exhibit several of the methods listed below.

If all the Science in the world could explain everything.....Could PHYSICS explain why we fall in love with someone without affected by gravity? And why can't LOGIC help us to make things right when we are in love? Would CHEMISTRY give us the elements of love and its formula?

Or could ANATOMY and PHYSIOLOGY locate the scars in our heart?  :P

haha.

my response:

the supposed 'scars' of the heart are not really in the heart, but in the depths of the cerebral cortex in conjunction with the hypothalamo-limbic system.

what we see with our eyes, touch with our fingers and hands, feel with our body, and hear with our ears are all the main factors that equate to feeling love, and being loved. however, all of these so called senses are governed by the combined processes of the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system, which are nothing but aspects of the greater nervous system -- in other words, the brain.

so in retrospect, the concept of love is nothing but human rationalization of the electrical impulses that govern the neuromuscular junction , which in turn receives and directs sensations to the brain.

love , the sensation of, feeling of, rationalization of, and philosophizing of , is just a neurological manifestation.

Treatment:

The primary ADHD medications include stimulants, nonstimulants, and antidepressants.

Stimulants are the most common treatment for ADHD in children and adolescents. They include methylphenidate -- Ritalin, Metadate, Concerta -- or amphetamines, including Dexedrine, Dextrostat, and Adderall. A newer drug, Vyvanse, is a type of amphetamine that’s formulated to last longer and to be less conducive to dependence than other stimulants.

Other FDA-approved drugs for ADHD in children and adolescents include the nonstimulants Strattera and Intuniv. Strattera works on levels of the brain chwmical norepinephrine and is quite effective at treating and controlling ADHD symptoms. Intuniv affects certain receptors in the brain and also improves concentration and impulse control. Both of these drugs pose a much lower risk of abuse or dependence than stimulants.

The antidepressant Wellbutrin has been shown to be beneficial in treating ADHD. Wellbutrin can be an alternate treatment when tolerance or abuse of a stimulant is a problem.

Antidepressants have a positive effect on all three of the major components of ADHD: inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. They are another option for children whose response to stimulant medication has been inadequate. They also are used as an alternative for children who experience unacceptable side effects, such as tics or insomnia, from stimulant medication.

Histrionic:

People with histrionic personality disorder are constant attention seekers. They need to be the center of attention all the time, often interrupting others in order to dominate the conversation. They use grandiose language to discribe everyday events and seek constant praise. They may dress provacatively or exaggerate illnesses in order to gain attention. They also tend to exaggerate friendships and relationships, believing that everyone loves them. They are often manipulative.

Borderline:

Borderline personality disorder is characterized by mood instability and poor self-image. People with this disorder are prone to constant mood swings and bouts of anger. Often, they will take their anger out on themselves, causing themselves injury. Suicidal threats and actions are not uncommon. They think in very black and white terms and often form intense, conflict-ridden relationships. They are quick to anger when their expectations are not met.
#21322
Antisocial:

A common misconception is that antisocial personality disorder refers to people who have poor social skills. The opposite is often the case. Instead, antisocial personality disorder is characterized by a lack of conscience. People with this disorder are prone to criminal behavior, believing that their victims are weak and deserving of being taken advantage of. They tend to lie and steal. Often, they are careless with money and take action without thinking about consequences. They are often agressive and are much more concerned with their own needs than the needs of others.
#21323
Schizotypal:

Many believe that schizotypal personality disorder represents mild schizophrenia. The disorder is characterized by odd forms of thinking and perceiving, and individuals with this disorder often seek isolation from others. They sometimes believe to have extra sensory ability or that unrelated events relate to them in some important way. They generally engage in eccentric behavior and have difficulty concentrating for long periods of time. Their speech is often over elaborate and difficult to follow.

Paranoid personality disorder is characterized by a distrust of others and a constant suspicion that people around you have sinister motives. People with this disorder tend to have excessive trust in their own knowledge and abilities and usually avoid close relationships with others. They search for hidden meanings in everything and read hostile intentions into the actions of others. They are quick to challenge the loyalties of friends and loved ones and often appear cold and distant to others. They usually shift blame to others and tend to carry long grudges.

symptoms:

What are the symptoms of ADHD in children?

Inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity are the key behaviors of ADHD. It is normal for all children to be inattentive, hyperactive, or impulsive sometimes, but for children with ADHD, these behaviors are more severe and occur more often. To be diagnosed with the disorder, a child must have symptoms for 6 or more months and to a degree that is greater than other children of the same age.
Children who have symptoms of inattention may:

    * Be easily distracted, miss details, forget things, and frequently switch from one activity to another
    * Have difficulty focusing on one thing
    * Become bored with a task after only a few minutes, unless they are doing something enjoyable
    * Have difficulty focusing attention on organizing and completing a task or learning something new
    * Have trouble completing or turning in homework assignments, often losing things (e.g., pencils, toys, assignments) needed to complete tasks or activities
    * Not seem to listen when spoken to
    * Daydream, become easily confused, and move slowly
    * Have difficulty processing information as quickly and accurately as others
    * Struggle to follow instructions.

What is attention deficit hyperactivity disorder?

  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common childhood disorders and can continue through adolescence and adulthood. Symptoms include difficulty staying focused and paying attention, difficulty controlling behavior, and hyperactivity (over-activity).
    ADHD has three subtypes:1

         Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive
o Most symptoms (six or more) are in the hyperactivity-impulsivity categories.
o Fewer than six symptoms of inattention are present, although inattention may still be present to some degree.

         Predominantly inattentive
o The majority of symptoms (six or more) are in the inattention category and fewer than six symptoms of hyperactivity-impulsivity are present, although hyperactivity-impulsivity may still be present to some degree.
              o

o Children with this subtype are less likely to act out or have difficulties getting along with other children. They may sit quietly, but they are not paying attention to what they are doing. Therefore, the child may be overlooked, and parents and teachers may not notice that he or she has ADHD.

         Combined hyperactive-impulsive and inattentive
o Six or more symptoms of inattention and six or more symptoms of hyperactivity-impulsivity are present.
o Most children have the combined type of ADHD.

Treatments can relieve many of the disorder's symptoms, but there is no cure. With treatment, most people with ADHD can be successful in school and lead productive lives. Researchers are developing more effective treatments and interventions, and using new tools such as brain imaging, to better understand ADHD and to find more effective ways to treat and prevent it.

lol haha. your husband has an amazing keen sense of smell then. years ago when i was back in college, i went to an asian supermarket in pittsburgh, pennsylvania with a group of my friends and happened to stumble on a pack of buwad. from the philippines, too. i bought those and some dried squid.

the following morning i had the urge to cook it and so i did. to my filipino senses, the smell of fried buwad and scrambled eggs in the morning was delicious and tantalizing. mouth watering. especially when one eats it with freshly cooked rice and a nice little plate of vinegar with hot peppers dipped inside. delicious.

unfortunately, my 4 white-american room mates did not feel the same. LOL.

my one good friend, bryan, came out of his room to see what was going on and ran to me asking if something died or what. i can never forget his question, "al, what in all things holy is that awful smell? what are you eating?" as soon as he said that, my 3 other room mates came out: rob, don, and phil. i had to explain to them that the smell came from the contents that i had purchased the day before at the asian supermarket in pittsburgh.

their facial expressions were priceless. they did , ultimately, eat on the table with me. tho no one ventured to try the buwad, save bryan. he eventually had a whole buwad and naturally even dipped it in the vinegar. lol.

as for the rest; they don't know what they were missing. ;)

cujo,

your husband isn't used to the effervescent aroma of fried buwad ? lol. my one good friend, a filipino physician, is so fond of fried buwad and eggs that during our lunch breaks at the hosptal, he opens his topper ware and lo and behold-- fried buwad with fried eggs and a ton of rice. he drinks his all-time-favorite coca cola.

i can't help but laugh whenever i see the facial reaction of the african-american nurses and white-american nurses to the smell of the food. its a mix of shock, wonder, and curiosity. but then the filipino nurses respond with comments such as, "oy doc! share naman ang pagkain mo!" hahaha.

When daisies pied, and violets blue,
  And lady-smocks all silver-white,
And cuckoo-buds of yellow hue
Do paint the meadows with delight,
The cuckoo then, on every tree,
Mocks married men, for thus sings he:
      “Cuckoo!
Cuckoo, cuckoo!” O word of fear,
Unpleasing to a married ear.

When shepherds pipe on oaten straws,
And merry larks are ploughmen’s clocks,
When turtles tread, and rooks, and daws,
And maidens bleach their summer smocks,

Ah yes, one should have temperance and prudence in this situation. Thanks for sharing your view, Ruben.

The Philippine Military has been saying it is undergoing modernization for years since the late 90s. Yet in over 10 years we have not acquired any superiority fighters. All we have to show are used and run down / refitted old American Broncos and propeller air craft that constitutes the bulk of the air force. There is a saying that the Philippine Air Force is called the Air Farce.

We have nothing, no fighters or any recon picket craft that can even go against / toe to toe against China's air superiority fighters.

We cannot pacify and crush the Abu Sayaff and require American assistance to crush a bunch of separatist rebels; now we are trying to engage the military might of the People's Republic of China? One of China's provinces is bigger than Philippines. How can a shrimp go against a whale?

#21347
the philippine government is very wise. they are pouring media articles and news reports on supposed chinese violation. the truth of the matter is the fact that the chinese have already been intruding philippine air space, and naval territory for years.

the increased threat induces the united states to increase its military financial aid packages to the philippines per annum. most of which, unfortunately go to the pockets of corrupt generals.

luoy kaayo ang pilipinas. we are still using 1940's style frigate ships as our flagship of the navy. its a floating tin can.

realistically speaking, china will not attack philippines. it has too much special interests in the region. besides, there is a large chinese population in the philippines already. the chinese/ tsinoys already control the philippine economy.

why should china take over philippines? the richest men in the philippines are chinese/ tsinoys. eg) tan, gukongwei, sy, lim, etc..

daghang muslim mo ingon dili sila mo kaon ug baboy, pero mo kaon man sila ug humba.

naay usang muslim ug usang pari, nag meet up sila. old time friends.

ingon ang pari sa muslim, "Igsoon, naka tilaw na ka ug baboy?"

Talk of the Town / Re: IMF Chief, Manyakis?

The greed of power, the tools of Satan. As quickly as this man rose to the top, he fell quickly. Because of his political and economic clout in the IMF he thought he could get away by raping a female worker.

In the end, he is left jobless, powerless.

That is up for them to return the money or not, ilaha ra nang conscience ug ma luoy sila sa mga tawo.

But for us, my dear brod. buwad, when we celebrate morning mass, we are reminded by our priest to pray for the holy souls in purgatory.

Ampo lang ta nila bisan maka sala sila kai we do not know when we ourselves will die and will need the prayers of the living.

Imagine, if we but devote a novena to the Blessed Mother, the clemency of the Lord will be invoked.

We do not know that in his death bed, Marcos could have asked penance from a priest and was given absolution of all his sins.

And besides, his death and his state of passing is between ferdinand marcos and The Lord God.

Not for us to say. Judgment, in the end, belongs to God alone.

Poems and Poets / The Old Wise Man
May 20, 2011, 11:16:51 AM
by: R. S. Suarez

Whenever there’s a problem or an issue

At hand,

Nobody around understands;

The one who’s called the wise old man;

Forms a solution without a plan.

The wise old man has the strongest helping hands!

He’s got long hair purely white,

And he squints to emphasize

His sight;

His cane is old , but it’s painted bright;

He’s humble in his opinion always not usually right!

With nothing to call his own,

He’s got no family, but he’s never alone,

No job much less car or phone;

He’s been seen one minute in

The countries farthest zone,

And a while later-

Calming the storm in a local neighbor’s- home.

Mystery how he gets to and from?

Because he’s never to the supplicating voice once declined,

That’s why to this day wherever he may be,

Whatever he may need, he always find;

As another man said ; it’s his if it’s mine,

And I haven’t got it I’ll will for the wise old man surely find!

Some make sure he always eats , and others

That he safely properly sleeps;

When his needs exceed what he can himself fulfill,

It might be new glasses or tooth to be drilled,

There’s never any mention of a bill;

There all just happy he lives among them still!

On every Sunday morning ,

Even if the rain is pouring ;

The wise old in his Sunday’s best ,

Heads for the church to pray and confess,

And celebrate the holy day of rest;

Of all his days , places and events

This day at church honoring the Lord

Is his very best!

There’s a reason the wise old man

Is considered such an honored guest.

The greatest among you must serve,

And pick up his cross daily

The wise old man’’…

Observes and for this the Strength of

The Lord is for him unfailing!

kahibalo ka ni st. paul, ug si zachaius, bro. buwad?

kahibalo ka that before st. paul became a christian , he was a military leader and a persecutor of christians? he was responsible for the deaths /executions of many christians. but he changed. he had a personal experience with Christ Jesus that changed him, and transformed him from a sinful man to one of the greatest doctors of the Church. And the greatest contributor to the Holy Bible , in terms of new testament writings.

si zachais, was a tax collector and a sinner. yet Jesus Christ ate with him, despite the condemnation of the pharisees and the common people. they even said to themselves, "You see, he goes to eat with a sinner??"

God, in His own wisdom, offers salvation to all. even to the greatest of sinners.

Peace be with you, brod. buwad. God Bless!
#21375
he is not my idol, i merely admired his intelligence. you should not be saying that he is in hell or impyerno, bro. buwad, because it is not up to us to dictate who goes to hell or not.

i used to be like you before. in my foolish ways i said that angelo reyes went to hell for committing suicide, but i was proven wrong. and it is wrong. the catholic sacraments proved me wrong.

do you believe in the state of purgatory, bro buwad? if you do, then marcos could be in purgatory right now. we should pray for him not condemning him for his sins. kinsa gud gusto mo pa destined sa impyerno...kinsa gusto mo burn for all eternity...?

God Bless!!

this is quite saddening. back in the 1960s, the Philippine air force was the envy of asia. we had a fleet of F-8 Fantoms and a bulk of then-state of the art F-5 Tiger air superiority fighters. the philippines even detected a russian long range bomber and chased it out of our air space after it was targetted and followed by a squadron of the philippine air force.

sayang kaayo...
#21377
even poorer countries such as cambodia, burma, bangladesh have a better air force than the philippines...

#21378
it is so sad. how can we detect the chinese jet fighters when the philippines doesn't have any air superiority fighters? we already mothballed our old and rusty 1960's F-5 fighters. now, we only have propeller trainers that constitutes the bulk of the philippine air force.

if china wanted to attack philippines, a nation of 100 million people, it could do so easily because we don't even have a 3rd generation air force. we would lose air superiority to the chinese in such a situation. luoy pood ang pilipinas...

Taas kono to si Lolo Mariano. My Lola Babing (Mrs. Balbina Tan- Salingay; my grand aunt) told me that Lolo Mariano was over 6 foot kono.

He was the one that carried the bell in Valencia's bell tower; all by himself. Isug kono to sija sa una.

Luoy pood si Lolo kai he had to  leave China for Philippines kai sa una, very poor daw kaayo ang Chinese didto sa ilahang bayan.

It saddens me to think that Lolo had to say good bye to his mother and father because of the desperate times.

I can only imagine how my great-great grand mother and my great great grand father looked like...

guys, let us not be in the position to judge who is in empyerno. it is God, and God alone who can condemn a man to hell or not.

i used to err in such a way. before, i said that angelo  reyes went to hell for committing suicide, but realize that i do not know -- we do not know this. in the end, it is God who dictates the judgment.

so as one who used to judge reyes and accept my error in doing this, i urge you also not to do the same with marcos. in the end, God is merciful and we do not know His judgment....

Peace....

In a world where Christians are being persecuted for being open with their faith and for sharing their faith outwardly, we find solace in knowing that the sufferings and the persecutions in this life will lead to a reward in Heaven.

Jesus Christ said unto them, "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.."

If this is so wrong
why does it feel so right
If I'm in love with her
why am I with you tonight

I did the unthinkable
I let my love stray
These awful thoughts I have
I don't want them to go away

When I see you here
Just can't help but dream
I've just got to do it
no matter how wrong it seems

I tried to stop it
tried to turn back the time
back before I became yours
back before you were mine

I want it to all go away
try to erase the memories
But I can't help but think
of the love you gave to me

I've never felt like this
and I doubt I ever will again
I want you to be my lover
but we can never be more than friends

I am still with her
for how long I do not know
Our love with have to wait
but I still love you so

I've got to move on now
try to get you out of my head
It's gonna be really tough though
considering you're lying in my bed

I know I can't have both worlds
and someday it will all end
But until that day comes
I still have a lover and a girlfriend .

Quick resolution.

At times when we argue, I can say some very hurtful things that distance us apart. I had to change this aspect of myself and force myself from being distant after a fight and to take up the role of reconciliator and redeemer of the relationship. For the first time in my life, I would go to her and ask for apology, on my knees and solve the problem before it escalated.

I never did this before.

However, i found myself being capable of doing this to solve the problem. She is so very sensitive to even the slightest provocation.

#21395
In regards to my darling babycakes, she is very hard headed and driven. Traits that I love and admire in a woman. However, there are times when I am doing work and doing something important when she comes and demands that I do something for her or help her out.

She is so strong minded, and willfully resolute that we sometimes clash. We have similar personalities, you see. And we both are equally sensitive.

I find myself giving in to her and conceding to her many a time in order to evade quarrels. I guess as compromise.

She does to, at times, but she has a very powerful personality. She is a medical intern , like myself, and does not believe in giving into any man or woman. Isug jamo.

#21396
ah, that is part of the beauty and thrill of a relationship. sometimes we have our really good days an then there are times when we argue. it is part of the spice of life. more power to you two! God bless!

Real Life Application:

Lorenzo: Darling, I already cleaned the bathroom and mopped the floors. Everything is complete. I'm now tired and very gutom. Did you cook anything at all?

Babycakes: Hoy Toto! Ano ba? Maid ako sa imo? (beautiful eye stare)

Lorenzo: Di ko sabot, i thought you were going to cook while I cleaned the bathroom and floor. Darling, this is not fair.

Babycakes: (giggling) Oh, sorry honey. I thought you were going to cook food after you were finished cleaning the floor.

Lorenzo: (heading towards fridge to take out meat and veggies to cut and cook)

Hmm, very interesting. Given, there are issues that I have with my gf and there are some issues she has with me, however, is it ever possible to find a 'perfect' person? One important aspect of a relationship that is necessary for it to succeed and to blossom , which many of us fail to manifest, is the issue of Compromise. Sometimes, we have to compromise with our partners.

We can't get everything we want. I can't force her into anything, neither can she force me into something that I don't want to do. Hence, the issue of compromise is ideally and equivocally important in the relationship.
