'We always ask the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the police.'

The homeowner alerted police on August 25, as she feared she had become a burglary target.

In 2009, Surrey Police warned householders in Caterham to be careful after more of the symbols were noticed.

DC Steve Fleetwood said knowing the meaning of the symbols could be a valuable crime-fighting tool.

He said: 'The Exeter Neighbourhood Team saw them at the end of a few drives, on a few kerbs and on gate posts and we want to warn people about them.'

The symbols have been known to police for several years, but have come to police attention again recently when they were spotted on a home in Walkden, Salford.

Greater Manchester Police said they carried out inquiries when one of the symbols appeared on the side of an elderly woman's home.

Chief Insp Sue Downey, of Greater Manchester Police, said: 'Police in Salford received a call from a woman in Walkden, who was concerned that a symbol had been marked on her house in chalk.

'Inquiries have been carried out and residents in the surrounding area have been spoken to, and we have received no further reports of any such activity.

An 'x' shape simply means 'good target', while five circles shows that the owners of the house are wealthy.

A box with three lines, a circle, and a triangle in one corner shows that the property has been burgled before.

Two diagonal boxes together shows that the home contains a vulnerable female.

A D-shaped box with a short line through it shows that the home is deemed 'too risky' to enter.

Homeowners have received a fresh warning over a set of chilling chalk symbols which burglars use to scope out potential victims.

The markings, dubbed 'the Da Pinchi Code' are a variety of boxes, lines and shapes which show whether a house is worth breaking in to.

Drawn in chalk on the side of peoples' houses, they pinpoint vulnerable householders, houses with 'nothing worth stealing', or nervous homeowners.

Other shapes are thought to denote houses with a burglar alarm, or those which are deemed 'too risky to target'.

September 08, 2013, 02:49:49 AM

In an isolated region of the Caucasus this Georgian monk is spending his days in prayer and silence atop a 40-metre pillar of limestone. The Katskhi Pillar was used by stylites (Christian ascetics who lived atop pillars and eschewed worldly temptation) until the 15th century when the practice was stopped following the Ottoman invasion of Georgia. For centuries the 40 metres (130ft) high pillar lay abandoned and locals could only look up at the mysterious ruins at its summit. However, after first being ascended in 1944, the pillar has been home to Maxime Qavtaradze, last of the stylites, since 1993. Since then Maxime, who has previously spent time in prison, and the Christian community in the area have constructed a ladder to the top, rebuilt the church, and built a cottage where Maxime spends his days praying, reading, and "preparing to meet god". Talk of the Town / 2012 Pork Barrel in the time of PNoy
September 05, 2013, 12:47:54 AM
2012 Total amount of pork releases   P24.2 billion
     Lower House    P20.2 billion
     Upper House    P 4 billion

Average releases for each legislator (in million pesos):
District congressman     P 70.5 million
Party-list congressman  P 65.2 million
Senators                     P179.5 million

Each legislator could use the previous year’s unused allocations as continuing allocation for later years. Thus, the pork release in a given year can exceed the allotments for any given year.

The Yanzhao Metropolis Daily quoted Guo’s mother as saying the boy’s account of the attack had varied from moment to moment.

“The child would say one thing at first and then another thing later. I asked him later, did she speak the way I do, and he said yes,” the report quoted her as saying.

The report described the family as saying that they did not see the aunt’s family frequently because they lived in different areas, though the boy was quoted as saying that he knew his aunt. Asked if the woman who grabbed him was his aunt, the boy said he did not know.

http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/
#19441
State media previously had raised the possibility that the boy’s corneas were taken for sale because of a donor shortage in China, but police said the boy’s eyeballs were found at the scene, and that the corneas hadn’t been removed. At the time, though, Guo’s father told The Associated Press the family had not actually seen the eyeballs.

The attack horrified the Chinese public, and added to outrage over violence against children in the wake of a scandal earlier in the year over a spate of cases of school teachers sexually abusing young girls.

Chinese Internet users expressed dismay as they circulated reports of the attack on the boy and links to footage showing him writhing in pain on a hospital trolley with bandages around his head, and his parents, both farmers, crying.
#19442
Initial reports said the boy, Gua Bin, was lured by an unidentified woman with a strange accent into a field on August 24 where she used an unspecified tool to gouge out his eyes.

Xinhua did not cite a possible motive for the aunt to attack the boy. The police finding seemed to conflict with the family’s initial comments on the boy’s assailant, which cited him as saying that the woman spoke with an accent from outside the area and had hair that was dyed blonde.

One of the case investigators reached by phone, a police officer in Fenxi county surnamed Liu, referred only to the Xinhua report and refused to answer further questions, saying he was not authorized to speak to the media. Calls to the city and county’s police bureaus’ propaganda departments rang unanswered. Guo’s mother’s mobile phone also rang unanswered.

China police say aunt likely gouged out boy’s eyes

Associated Press
Wednesday, September 4th, 2013

Guo Bin lies on a bed in a hospital as he recuperates from an attack in the rural area of Linfen city that left him blind, in Taiyuan in northwest China’s Shanxi province. AP

BEIJINGâ€"Chinese authorities suspect that the woman who gouged out a six-year-old boy’s eyes was his aunt who later killed herself, state media said Wednesday, adding a surprising twist to a gruesome case with conflicting details.

Police in the city of Linfen in northern Shanxi province have identified the boy’s aunt Zhang Huiying as a suspect because the boy’s blood was found on her clothes, the official Xinhua News Agency said. Six days after the boy was attacked, Zhang killed herself by jumping into a well.

about the paranormal, there's another credible person in our country who's been around, interestingly another guy named jaime--- fr. jaime bulatao, sj.  (right, he's a jesuit.)

Fr. Jaime Bulatao, S.J., the founder of the Department of Psychology in Ateneo de Manilla University can communicate with creatures that are normally invisible such as the dead and the dwarves. In one of his experiences, he asked a favor from a dwarf named “Anilaida” to help fix a diamond ring for a family. - more at http://goodjesuitbadjesuit.blogspot.com/2011/11/manilla-jesuit-on-dead-dwarves-kything.html

I did ask Rachel one time if these spirits actively talk to her or approach her. She did say that she actively tries to ignore them because once they see that you see them, they will follow her kono.

On a side note, another mystic who was gifted with the power of the 6th sense was Blessed Padre Pio, who could not only see angels , but also even demons.

the same things happen to us all, as far as my understanding of such things goes.  it's just that some are more sensitive than others.  (they see better, feel better, etc.)

saints are most sensitive because of the height of spirituality that they have achieved.

meanwhile, the rest of us, mere mortals, can actually practice becoming sensitive (as in achieving heightened and sharpened senses) if we put our minds and hearts to it.

the greater one's mission in life is, the more one's sufferings are, the more spirit guides one has.  that's what i know.  and believe.

Since angels cannot interfere with the free will of man, what good are they for? How do they help people? Can you give specific cases or examples?

When we ask for guidance, angels clarify the situation by pointing out aspects of the problem that we may not have considered. They act as objective third parties.

For instance, if someone asks which job offer they should accept, an angel may merely counter that with a question such as, “Which one do you really want? Where does your heart lead you?”

This may cause the person to really stop and consider where he is being led, rather than where his ego leads him. In this way, angels never choose for us and do not interfere with our free will.

They clarify who we are for ourselves, so we can make deeper and more informed choices.

How has the ability to see and talk to angels affected you and your life?

I guess I’ve become more introspective and hopeful in all the years I’ve been experiencing angels.

I’ve realized many things and have become more aware of who I am, not just as a person but also as a being that lives forever, as spirit. Angels are excellent behavioral models, and I believe that we should all strive to be like angels even in the middle of, and in spite of, our daily lives.

Are there hierarchies of angels? What’s the difference among cherubs, angels, archangels, thrones and powers that the Bible mentions?

Although we are taught that there are ranks of angels, I have learned that these ranks are merely “job descriptions.”

Angels, in my experience, are all of one level but with different functions such as archangels, thrones, seraphims. Each has a specific function to fulfill in the universe, but they are equal. They’re more democratic than we are.

What is the reaction of people when they learn that you can see and talk to angels?

Always, the persons who ask to see me in consultation are excited, curious and generally positive. Since I don’t go around advertising myself, I don’t encounter people who are skeptical or who object violently. There seems to be a lot of people out there who genuinely want to communicate with their angels for spiritual purposes.

Did you ever ask them why they appear to you? Have they also appeared to other people?

I often ask my angel why I continue to experience angels, and I am always answered with just a smile. I assume that this is part of a life plan for me, so I merely accept it.

Yes, they do appear to others, as others have also told me. That’s good because it may mean there’s hope for all of us.

Aside from angelic creatures, do you also see elementals or nature spirits? What about spirits of the dead? Where or under what circumstances?

From time to time I see ghosts, elementals such as dwarfs and the like. This happens when I’m in a playful mood and I just want to see them. Most of the time, though, I’d rather not look for them. I don’t get to be playful too often anymore.

According to the Catholic Church, God assigns only one guardian angel to each person, from birth to death. But I have been told by several foreign psychics that I have seven spirit guides, and you told me recently an eighth guide appeared. Is there a difference between an angel and a spirit guide?

From my experience, angels are eternal beings who were never human, who guide us through our lives and are concerned with us as eternal spirits.

Their guidance involves not only the day-to-day issues but, more important, our larger life issues.

Spirit guides are beings who were once living persons, are concerned only with your issues in this lifetime, and do not involve themselves with larger, karmic matters.

How do you know they are angels?

If you’ve noticed, I have been using the word “experience” rather than “see.” Being with angels is a total sensual and extra-sensual experience. I see them and I also hear and feel them.

I always get this sensation of floating or levitating, like I’ve entered heaven, even while fully conscious. It’s almost an indescribable feeling.

I know they’re angels, based on instinct. You can feel the positive energy around them. Angels never announce themselves or call attention to themselves.

How or what do they look like? Are they male or female? Do they really have wings?

They appear, to me at least, as human beings with a huge, swirling, multicolored aura around them. They don’t seem to have wings as we know them. What they have in place of wings and a halo is that very animated aura. Because they appear human, they seem to be either masculine or feminine in nature or personality, although, of course, as spirits, they are androgynous.

Do they appear to you only in certain places, like your house, in churches or anywhere?

I experience angels anywhere and everywhere. Guiding angels are always near the persons they are connected to, which means that there are guiding angels wherever there are people. I have experienced angels attached to specific places, though, such as churches. Others may be “roving,” such as archangels. In sum, angels are everywhere you can think of.

What was your reaction when these beings first made themselves visible to you?

On hindsight, I was excited when I first saw my own angel, but I was definitely not afraid, perhaps because I seem to be naturally adventurous. I remember also being curious, which allowed me to initiate a conversation. It was a very heady experience. The funny thing was that I never doubted what I was experiencing. I merely accepted it for what it was.

Interesting. 8)

the blurb about the author in wikipedia goes thus:

"Jaime T. Licauco, popularly known as Jimmy Licauco, is a parapsychologist, author, and management practitioner in the Philippines.

He is the Founder and President of the Inner Mind Development Institute, a training center for parapsychology, philosophy, psychic investigation, and metaphysics."

well, he's one of the more credible parapsychologists around, in my opinion.  he started as a parapsychology skeptic in the 1970s.

Do you actually see and talk to angelic creatures while awake, and with your eyes open?

Yes, but I also “turn on” this ability at my own choosing. This means that I can control when I want to experience angelsâ€" at will. This allows me to manage my daily, waking life better and also protect other persons’ privacy, so I don’t unintentionally discover things about them.

Can you see them even if your eyes are closed?

I sometimes find it better to experience them if my eyes are closed, so I can filter out visual distractions. In my mind, I can still see or imagine the scene in front of me, only this time with the angel present.

When did you begin seeing these spiritual beings?

I started experiencing angels in May 1993. I was having merienda at home when a being that looked like a lively 15-year-old boy suddenly appeared in front of me.

He started “talking” to me in my mind, and we had a small conversation. The experience lasted 14 days, in which I could actually see and talk to him whom I intuitively knew to be an angel and, in fact, my angel.

Emilio “Nonoy” Ozaeta is no ordinary professor of Architecture at the University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City. He sees and talks to angels any time. He has been doing this since 1993.

What follows is my interview with Ozaeta:

My Lord My God, please, take away this feeling from me. My Lord Jesus Christ, take this pain that affects my heart so, please take it all away. Strengthen me , My Lord Jesus, please strengthen me to focus on Medicine and my Doctoral Program. And not on thoughts of my former love. I beg this in your name.

Amen.

and may he shower you with his mercy and grace, to one day make you the best healer there is and have as your wife the best woman that he has already chosen for you though you may not have met her yet, amen.

and just like the senators at the national level, ang pasahan sa blame game ang makalolooy nga government bureaucrats, those ordinary workers at the implementing agencies of the executive branch who have no political clout, nga mao kunoy angay magbantay kun peke ba o di ang mga NGOs.  aruy, ang mga congressmen ra ba ang nagpili sa mga NGOs.  igo ra intawong mosunod bisag gakusmod ang workers sa implementing agencies kay any idiot baya will know unsay sakto o di nga paagi.

what an inspiring story.  thanks, raqz.

from my end, divine grace is really at work.  i already despaired.  asa intawon akong 20+ cats and 4 dogs when my sister, who owns the connecting house (we share a common garage), shall already have her series of chemo sessions.  pets are off limits because her immunity would be very low by then.  unsa na kaha ning usa ka battalion nga pets.  nanghilak na mi.  we know of friends who ended up putting down their pets in the same situation.  i saw the end of the world.  we thought of many possibilities for her--- a convent, tagbilaran, a hotel in siquijor, etc.  she'd be too far from her doctor in case of emergency, she had said.

luckily, two houses away in the same subdivision is a house up for rent whose owner, a friend, had already relocated to australia.  my sister asked if we could rent the place for her recuperation.  it was offered for free.  thank god everything worked out fine.  she's nearby, and all our pets are saved.

just to warn you... my first impulse at editing is to cut long paragraphs to pieces in keeping with the usual rules.  one's mind when one writes simply flows with ideas.  unfortunately, readers' minds don't flow the same way.  so the writer's product had to be redesigned with the reader's easy understanding in mind.

OT: the best writers submit themselves to editing.  t.s. eliot's editor was ezra pound.  guess who we know more about, now...

nice, raqz.  the fact nga nagpakita ka nga interesado nga mogasto for cats is enough to encourage others to look at strays with value.

usa ra gyod akong all-white nga iring.  male nga arang malditoha, ako na lang gilain sa uban kay bully man gyod tawon siya.  blue-eyed raba siya, so chances are di siya makapaanak.  still i took no chances.  ako gihapong gipa-neuter.

we also know that calicos are invariably female.  mao tawon ang unang ilabay as kittens kay baye lagi.  mao nga di ko mahibung nganong daghan kag calico, hehe.
