Meizhou Island (æ¹,,洲島) is closely offshore of Putian, Fujian, China. It is most famous for being the birthplace of the goddess Matsu. Meizhou has 38,000 inhabitants, most of which have traditionally been in fishery.
Meizhou Island is entirely under Meizhou Township (镇) that is divided into 11 villages:

Gaozhu (高朱)
Xiashan (下山) "Downhill"
Lianche (莲池) "Lotus Pond"
Beidai (北埭 di) "North Dam"
Dongcai (东è"¡) "The Caiss of the East"
Xiting (西亭) "The Pavillion of the East"
Ganglou (港楼) "The Tower of the Port"
Xaixia (寨下)
Dayang (大洋) "Great Ocean"
3 more

Meizhou Township is a sub-organization (派出机æž,,) of Putian Municipality.

Geography
In the northern part of the mouth of Meizhou Bay, Meizhou Island is 14.35 km, 9.6 km north-south, and 1.3 km east-west. The beach is 20-km.

History
In June 1988, Meizhou became an open provincial tourism economic region (æ—...游经济区). And in April 1992, Taiwanese were allowed have landing visas on the island, and in October of the same year, it became a national tourism-vacation region (国家æ—...游度假区). In October 1999, the island is formally opened to foreign nations.

Annually, 100,000 Taiwanese pilgrims come to Meizhou to see the place where Matsu once lived. Some pilgrims make the visit every year. A celebration takes place in October, with 1,200 attending.

Tourist attractions
The Heavenly Empress Palace-Meizhou Ancestral Temple (天后宮æ¹,,洲祖廟) started as a small shrine soon after Matsu's death in the 10th century. It is now renovated and greatly enlarged to accommodate the pilgrims.

when my bf and I broke up, i thought it was the end of the world. it was so painful that i just couldn't go on with my life. that was the time I started drinking and smoking heavily. I partied, I just dont want to be alone, by myslef....  but then God had other plans for me and He gave me my husband, and for that, I am so thankful. if i married my ex-bf, my life will surely be so miserable. i know so just by knowing how his married life turned out to be and I pity his wife .... thanks God that He gave me such a wonderful husband and my saviour too....

Family & Parenting / Re: Happy Father's Day

6 signs he’ll make a good dad

1. He treats his mother well. - What kind of family man will he be? First look at his relationship with his mom. Does he respect her? Laugh with her easily? Enjoy visiting her? Help out with chores or errands? “If the answer is yes, all of this means she did a good job raising him, he naturally likes women, and will like the mom you will become,” says Wendy Allen, Ph.D., a psychotherapist specializing in couples and marriage therapy in Santa Barbara, CA. In fact, respect in general â€" to other family members, to kids, and to you â€" should be at the top of the “what to look for” list.

2. He's selfless. - What's the number one thing you learn when you become a parent? You never come first anymore! So if you're with a guy who thinks he's the center of the universe, beware.

3. He's not easily grossed out. - Surprise! Kids are messy. There are dirty diapers, vomit â€" and dirty diapers and vomit happening at the same time. Being a parent means getting comfortable with the eewwww factor. Good fathers are the ones “who jump in to clean up a gross mess and help out when someone else isn’t feeling well,” says Dianne Couris, an author and parenting coach in Oldsmar, FL, and president of Family Choices & Solutions, Inc.

4. He's a great uncle. “Nephews and nieces are the stepping stones to your own kids,” says Allen. “Does he call them on their birthdays? Does he make dates where he actually has to show up and take them to the movies or an amusement park?”

5. He doesn't mind taking direction from his partner. - “If a man resents being told what to do, then working with him on his children's schedule and responsibilities could get tense,” Couris says. “Running a family schedule is usually [the mother's role] and the father typically needs direction.” How can you tell if he'll respond well to family life? Notice how he takes to your suggestions and how he reacts to your plans. If you get a positive reaction, you're onto something!

6. He likes ketchup. - And he understands the importance of blowing the paper cover off of a straw and seeing if it can reach across the table. In other words, he has a playful sense of fun, and doesn't take himself too seriously. Those could be the most telling sign of all. You've got to have a sense of humor to get through life with kids.

This means to say my husband Jorge is a good father. He has all the signs stated above. My girls, Nique and Elle, are so lucky!

Weird and Extreme / Temporary Marriage in Iran
June 18, 2011, 09:35:32 AM
Anonymous in the West, temporary marriage is, basically, a contractual deal between a man and a woman who decide to be married for an agreed period of time varying from one hour to 99 years. This custom is practiced among the Shiites of Iran and Iraq, although not a part of Quranic teachings. In Iran, a man - bachelor or married, and a woman - virgin, divorced, or widowed, can, at any time enter into a temporary marriage contract, commonly known as sigheh or nekah-e-monghate'e.

In a temporary marriage contract, no registration or witness is required. As per the proponents of this arrangement, it is considered as a means of curbing free sex and control prostitution. Also, the arrangement allows a man to have 'sigheh' wives to an extent that is affordable by him. But a woman, on the other hand, is allowed to enter only one such relationship at a point of time. Moreover, the woman is also paid the compensation amount before entering the contract.

However, no couple can enter another contract before completing a waiting period of three months or an elapse of two menstrual cycles. This waiting period is referred as 'edda'. The trend of temporary marriage is, conversely, not liked by the educated middle class families. Also, some women are predisposed to think it as legal prostitution and, therefore, oppose the trend. This trend is, therefore, practiced more commonly by women who are either divorced or widowed. Additionally, the trend is also popular among theological seminaries and the clergy.
