let's just think of how we can help...our new leaders...we should start where it would most count...siguro sa ato copmmunity then the province w/ prayers nga moabot ang tibuok pilipinas and then the world...

That is ideal.. as the saying goes: "CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME."

There is a famous student slogan in the 80's" (am not sure if it originated from UP). "KUNG HINDI TAYO KIKILOS SINO ANG KIKILOS, KUNG HINDI NGAYON KAILAN." It rings true all the time.

We can make a difference by starting in our own backyard. We cannot expect the government to take care all the problems of the people, what we expect for them is to have a political will to implement pro-people programs, that will eventually uplift the living condition of our people. We deserve more than a lip-service, more than hollow promises, more than just political gimmicks.

I was hoping one day, we can unite ourselves and form a very strong advocacy group. A kind of organization that will safeguard and protect the interests of the Boholanos. A group that is critical to legislative agendas, critical to policies that are adversely affecting the interests of the people.

By concerting our efforts we can make a difference.

We don't need to be elected to serve, we are made by God to fulfill a mission. We will not throw this chance of a lifetime. LIFE IS SHORT.

Taken! No offense...It so happened am sick and tired of political maneuverings in the Philippines. And whoever are there, I hope we can find some good seeds among the few. As far as I know, my family survives because I am sending money, not because the government are doing something for the people. Too bad...

unfortunately wolf, yours will not be the last sad story involving relatives. i emphatize with you as this happened to my parents' retirement money, which greatly affected our future college education then

the 'small things' that you do to the children of your fishing village will go a long way for them, i'm sure

me and my wife's earnings are not much at the moment to use it investing in bohol. maybe when we win the lottery :) but i do like the idea of an ecotourism project just like you given the educational and work background i have

Mao lagi Jig, although I was able to accept it, but, it was very embarrassing to my husband. The bulk of the money comes from his inheritance. Not just money, we put up a pig farm and that is capital extensive. We lost so much. Lesson to share: never trust relatives about your business.

He is so financially generous to me and my family, so he never say a word, but deep down I know he was very sad about it.

I would like to convert my farm into eco-tourism project. That is very ideal considering the proximity of Cortes to Tagbilaran, flower gardens and exotic small animals like butterflies and birds.

The best way to help the province is to invest your money here...by putting up small or micro-enterprises...your success would have a multiplier effect that would go a long way in alleviating poverty and providing jobs...or if you're not into that (business)...to spend your money within the province...buy local produce, hire local people...vacation in bohol, get your freinds to come to bohol...the money they spend would circulate and provide opportunities for others...

In fact I did. I put up a multi-million (PhP) project, but it was not properly managed. It is hard to let relatives run your investments. Maybe, I was poorly advised when the FS was undertaken. As a result, I lost so much money.

My option is still open, I am interested in eco-tourism maybe in the future when I will retire and personally manage it.  Meantime, I am trying my best to provide the kids in my barangay some fun. I sponsor egg hunting during Easter, and Xmas party with games, prizes and gift giving.  That means so much to the children in my poor fishing village. Who would care to feed them free? Who would remind them that Xmas is not only for the rich but is also for poor kids like them? Just a day of fun, but memories live forever.

Someone has to do it, I believe.

Amen to that. Lisod ang kinabuhi dire, you have to work hard for neccessary evils like: hse insurance, car insurance, health insurance, life insurance (optional), phone, cable, utilities, internet. If you own a house you are paying mortgage unless it is fully paid, then you have car payment unless you bought it cash.

Then taxes: income tax, property tax, sales tax, state tax (some states) whole nine yards.

HUBAG

Hamis, lumoy, puwa-puwa apil paa
Bus-ok apan insakto sa pamayhon
Nagadani sa mga matang maibugon.

Kung makakita ka ug hubag kalma lang bay!
Ayaw ka diretso ug pabuhagay...
Kung dili makaya, piyunga ang mata
Ug dili mada hala duola, ila-ilaha

Entrance fee can be free in the Park or a minimum donation except in some areas e.g. parking area. It can be run by public-private consortium.

That is a very good idea Jig. Why force commercialization and industrialization to Guindulman when in reality it is not feasible. Let us see: "Boxing Capital of Bohol"...that is attainable.

A Poem by: Joyce Kilmer
(This was taught in our elementary literature class)

TREES

I THINK that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the sweet earth's flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

(And some people played like God in killing them)

Usually these people, those who are really in dire need, undergo a tremendous psychological barrier to lower their pride...kay lagi wala man jud sila mahimo tungod sa kawad-on...Pero, on the other hand,... there are also professional beggars who make it a career doing these things

Let me also remind everyone that sadly, there will always be devastating consequences of progress that affects historical, ecological and moral/cultural treasures of the place. It is also among the sworn obligation of the mayor to preserve/protect the culture, identity and resources of the town.

There are many innovative and safe means to progress which are even favorable to the fragile eco-system and community.

[/quote]

That is why the Feasibility Study of any development projects incorporates the Environmental Impact Statement, an assessment of the possible impact both positive and negative on the natural, socio-cultural and economic aspect of the recipient community and adjacent areas. This is a pre-requisite before a project can be undertaken especially if it is infra in nature.

The cutting of the trees surely is not recommended when the public market was conceptualized and implemented, however, like pointed earlier these trees blocked the view of the new building.

I believe (and I know I shared the same belief with lots of people here at TB), that there is no amount of justification for such an action, the damage has been done.  However, the local executives, lawmakers, the Guindulmanons should play vital roles in restoring and balancing the eco-system of this municipality.

Of course, we as Boholanos should always play critical to the whole issue and remain vigilant so, situation like this will not happen again in the future. We can make a difference only if we have the will.

Truly, there is no place like home, and we need to protect our home at all cost: it could be painless or painful, but Bohol is our home… we have that obligation whether we like it or not.

Regarding the post about the cig' butts not to be thrown down to the ground...NO! it is not being implemented here. You need more special cigarette cans along the sidewalks as lit up cig' butts will catch on fire in a normal garbage can.

While driving a motor or a scooter here is such a risk when one in the forward car throws his butt down onto the road and there happens to be a tail wind strong enough to whirl it up into the air it makes the one behind the car that is ahead who is using the world as his ashtray dodge and duck out of hell so as not to get a flying cigarette in the face!!
I get so mad at this as it happens everyday here as it does the same in states...But where are the signs that say if you throw burning or flammable material you will be given a 500-10.000 peso fine?

Do these people know what are the main causes of fires? Obviously they do not give a smokey the Bears ass because it is carelessness often that causes wild fires, house fires.

Seguro misinformed lang ako ana. I still smoke that time and somebody told me to be careful in throwing my cigarette butts in Tagbilaran.

Unfortunately Yes. They can't also put their name on it. " This traffic light is donated by..." My husband was puzzled about those huge signs on 10ft stretch of concrete road bearing the huge painted plywood sign "This is a project of so and so politician" hahahhaha !

@ Jellybean, Mayor Lim may have his faults but so far, he's one visionary guy and he thinks outside the box. But then again, he was born into a privileged family and he's very educated. Maybe he perceives things differently than a lot of our politicians.

It would be nice if laws are implemented properly in our country but I think it will take some time. As long as people are hungry and the police will take bribes to line their own pockets... well, you guys know what I'm getting at.

I know Dan Lim personally and of course his Mom, Manang Gloria. We used to chitchat before when she was still the VM of Tagbilaran and Dan was the city administrator. I know them by heart. Yes, he may got temper but YES, definitely he is a visionary.

In 2007, he implemented the no throwing of cigarette butts in the city of Tagbilaran. I think it was good, I am not sure if that is still enforced. This is just a simple rule with meaningful impact because it was properly implemented and strictly enforced.

For a genuine progress, our political leaders should possess only one thing...POLITICAL WILL to implement pro-people programs and pass pro-people legislations. For as long as they are blinded by self interests and greed, it will never happen. I was working on political games for so long, and trust me, the flat forms are all the same. The political operations in our country are just so simple. Me, Family, Padrino, Country, God: in that order of service. WHAT A SHAME...

Question and Answer / Re: Is Magic Real Power ?
May 12, 2010, 10:19:15 PM
Quote from: islander on May 12, 2010, 07:56:28 PM
witchcraft, or black magic, is supposedly the tapping of the same energy that's used for healing (white magic) but used negatively.  a good analogy is a gun.  one can use it for defense (positive) or for robbery and murder (negative).

I have been reading Power of the Mind since I was in high school, and practiced some of its exercises. I am a graduate of science therefore, I always believe in scientific explanation of things. However through time I was convinced that practicing the Power of the Mind has scientific explanations.

I was alone since I was 13 years old. The only thing I have is imagination whether you believe it or not. I have very rich imagination, and I used that to struggle harder. Try to imagine being alone at that age, the pains and hardships I’ve been through. The only thing that keeps me moving is the Power of my Mind, a conviction that I become what I want to become, because I conditioned my mind what I want to be. Because my mind was conditioned, I put all my senses, my energies and dedicated all my actions to achieve my goal. I succeeded in getting what I want.

There are infinite realities if we explore our minds to work at its best. Recently, my best friend, a nurse working in Saudi Arabia suffered tremendous psychological disturbance. I worked with her over and over to use her mind to combat her illness. She is now back home in the Philippines and she said her nightmares are no longer visiting her.

The possibilities are endless, the keywords are believing and practicing.

Red Flag here. Sure kaha ka Cebu girl nga gidivorce na sa imong BF ang iyang asawa or basin nag ipon pa ni sila unya mao ning ing reason out siya nga wa pa mahuman kay gaplano pa lang. I have feeling wala ni siya kakita ug time makaikyas.
Proving you love him?
Slim kaayo ang chance sa mga dalaga moapply ug tourist visa diri labi na your purpose is to meet someone here. Guarantee na ni siya once maabot ka diri di na ka mobalik.Unless you came from very rich family ang you can prove yourself nga kaya nimo ang gasto without help sa imong bf naa kay chance ma granted ug visa.
It's much easy kung imong Bf ang movisit nimo then worry about the divorce paper later. Mas kinahanglan ang proof ninyo nga nag meet mo ug moapply ug fiancee visa. Then after ma release iyang divorce paper diha na siya mo pass ug application for fiancee.

Perfect advice for you Cebu Girl.

Four years ago, mys sister wanted to come here as tourist to personally see a guy she met online. She was asking my help to process her papers, and some money to back her financial standing.  But I encouraged her to invite her BF to visit Phils and file a fiance visa. Now they are married.

BESIDES WHY ARE YOU WASTING YOUR TIME ON SOMEONE THAT IS MARRIED? Find someone that has no garbage. About love, I dont think so......

Maghulat ka lang sa wala...

Quote from: Lorenzo on May 11, 2010, 03:04:11 AM
Quite true. There are very few absolute truths in life. Some of these are:

1. Our thoughts are ours, unless shared
2. Life is given, however, anyone has the ability to terminate his or her own life
3. Decisions are your own.
4. Death is guaranteed; the only difference is the manner and the time.

And if I may add:
1)     What has been said, cannot be left unspoken
2)     Things we did cannot be undone
3)     We cannot change our relatives
#1792
Quote from: Lorenzo on May 10, 2010, 08:41:26 PM
Indeed. That is what makes our decisions uniquely personal. In that aspect, we are the lords and directors of our decisions, whether we take that step or deign to withdraw for fear of doubt or for precautionary measures. Decisions are entirely left to the individual, if we are strong enough to make it for our own or if we be wise/pleaded to take an action by the intercession of a few or a many. In the end, the essence of a decision, the action of a decision, the finality of a decision leads us to the idea that we are the directors of our own lives. It is the unique epitome of the notion of 'Free Will'.

To some it seems simple; but in reality, it is quite existentialist.

The fact that you made a decision, made an act, followed through with a decision is eternal. It is proof that you existed in this universe, in this vast emptiness. You were, you are, you did, you had, you were...

:)

Absolutely! It is so pathetic though, that some people blamed others for their misfortunes, forgetting the fact that, they, first and foremost decided the kind of life they are going to lead.

What we are today are results of our decisions in the past, what we were in the past were results of decisions the time before then, so on and so forth. It is an unending cycle.

Forgive me but I disagree. Well, generally women hate talking about age, however, wisdom comes with age due to accumulated experiences, getting old is not just the number of years you live by, but, how you spent those years. It is not how long, but it is measured by prints you left behind that cannot be replaced by time.

Miind you, millions of Americans don't know how to use their own language. Only the educated do.  When they are teasing my accent, I always tell them how many languages do you speak? Or if not I will tell them to give me a piece of paper and I will just write what I said.

Know why? they have trouble with spellings.
