For me, its a tie between Spanish and Italian.

Romantic? To me it's Italian. I have an Italian friend and I love to hear him talking the language.

Yes, indeed.

I was taken back baya when I was listening to one of the conversations at a Filipino Party, the topic was about ghosts and what not. And someone mentioned the notion of "Diwatas, Enkanta". I did not know what those were so I asked and they told me that Diwatas was the old Binisaya term for 'gods'.

Then it came to me that these terms and folklores are remnants of our old animalistic-paganist history prior to Christianization.

I did listen to the entire conversation as a means to soak up the cultural / oral history lesson. Interesting to listen to.

We are now on the modern world, however, there are still people that believe in the so called world of the unknown.

Gi-quote ni sa Kill Bill di ba, Ms. Wolf? Revenge is sweet, they say.

I googled Kill Bill and I found what you said. However, I read this one: "The difference between revenge and justice is a subtle one." "In many people's minds, they are synonymous. When people say, 'I want justice,' often what they are really saying is, I want revenge.

Does it necessarily explain that, the reason why justice is always delayed if not denied is because synonymously it is evil to carry revenge. The law of nature plays in the midst.

It is but proper for the Farmer to suffer the consequences of his failure. He failed because he was being too emotional in carrying out his punitive action. Which is perhaps why, as the proverb goes, "revenge is a dish best served cold".
"revenge is a dish best served cold".
You think so....maybe. Well, it makes sense, buying time time to carry a revenge shall enable proper planning to take place and of course to calm down emotions. Successful revenge should be devoid of emotions...

if what is meant by language in this thread is the language spoken by a people, then there is no such thing as a harsh language.  any spoken language becomes harsh to the ears only for those who either simply do not understand a word or are not used to the intonation pattern specific to the language.

but if language here refers to expressions (or expletives for that matter), by jove, there's a lot to choose from out there.

That is true even our language can be harsh to non-Filipinos. Even the Arabic language in Southern Philippines is very harsh to the Ilongos in Central Visayas.

However, I would say German language may have some hard impact on the listener because its heavy and the accents are really strong. It sounded lyrical, sounding like someone is gargling a mouth full of marbles. I believe the German language might sound a little heavy and thick to other foreign countries.

Yes, I believe in black tongue not literally "gabaan" or with certain power. I know one, if someone hurt her she prayed hard and forgive that person. If she cries and was hurt, the person that inflicted pains will suffer certain kind of pains in his/her life.

AN OLD WOMAN found an empty jar which had lately been full of
prime old wine and which still retained the fragrant smell of its
former contents.  She greedily placed it several times to her
nose, and drawing it backwards and forwards said, "O most
delicious! How nice must the Wine itself have been, when it
leaves behind in the very vessel which contained it so sweet a
perfume!"

The Laborer and the Snake

A SNAKE, having made his hole close to the porch of a cottage,
inflicted a mortal bite on the Cottager's infant son.  Grieving
over his loss, the Father resolved to kill the Snake.  The next
day, when it came out of its hole for food, he took up his axe,
but by swinging too hastily, missed its head and cut off only the
end of its tail.  After some time the Cottager, afraid that the
Snake would bite him also, endeavored to make peace, and placed
some bread and salt in the hole.  The Snake, slightly hissing,
said:  "There can henceforth be no peace between us; for whenever
I see you I shall remember the loss of my tail, and whenever you
see me you will be thinking of the death of your son."

No one truly forgets injuries in the presence of him

He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways, brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin. He was not in the least bit scared to be mashed into a pulp, or to have his eyes gouged out, and his elbows broken. To have his kneecaps split, and his body burned away, and his limbs all hacked and mangled, brave Sir Robin. His head smashed in and heart cut out, and his liver removed, and his bowels unplugged, and his nostrils raped and his bottom burned off and his penis...

Pay Rise

I, Mr. P. Niss, hereby request a raise in salary for the following reasons:
I do physical labour.
I work at great depths.
I plunge headfirst into everything I do.
I do not get weekends or public holidays off.
I work in a damp environment.
I work in a dark workplace that has poor ventilation.
I work in high temperatures.
My work exposes me to contagious diseases.

Sincerely,
P. Niss

The Response:

Dear P. Niss:

After assessing your request, and considering the arguments you have raised, the administration rejects your request for the following reasons:

You do not work 8 hours straight.
You fall asleep after brief work periods.
You do not always follow the orders of the management team.
You do not stay in your designated area and are often seen visiting other locations.
You do not take initiative - you need to be pressured and stimulated in
order to start working.
You leave the workplace rather messy at the end of your shift.
You don't always observe necessary safety regulations, such as wearing the correct protective clothing.
You will retire well before you are 65.
You are unable to work double shifts.
You sometimes leave your designated work area before you have completed assigned task.
And if that were not all, you have been seen constantly entering and
exiting the workplace carrying two suspicious-looking bags.

Sincerely,
V. Gina

This topic is to account the places we happened to live for more than 6 months and a brief story why.
......................

To start with, I was born in Cortes, Bohol, left my parents when I was 13 and went to Kidapawan, Cotabato to study high school under my relatives’ guardianship.  Then went to Kabacan, Cotabato to study college, lived in General Santos City for my first job, then lived in Davao City for my second job. I went to Cambodia as Consultant for South-South Security Program, stayed in Manila for so long (of course with the job), then United States because of marriage.

Hoping to retire and live in Bohol someday (still a long way to go ).

Then he said, "Kuya, how could you!"

So I took him to the Custard Store and we had ice cream as a way to make it up.
I can't help but smile knowing how big he has become and is so prim and proper for his age. Already correcting his Kuya. I could remember to the time when I used to wash him when he was a baby, change his diapers, make his milk, and putting him to bed. I was there with his Ate Angel to see him crawl the first time, walk the first time. I can still remember the first time he said, "KUYA!" ha ha ha!

Too sad, not only our natural resources are denuded but also the morals of our people. To add more insult, we are known as deeply religious.  Hypocrites abound, what else I can say.

Everyone has his or her opinions on lots of things and issues.

And each leader has his or her own way of leading group of people or community based on financial resources, current political aura, personal life experiences and community needs. This mayor is given the authority to decide lots of things being an elected official (if you have a problem with her winning stint, then blame it to the people who gave her good votes) and she should make decisions on lots of things.

There are so many ways in killing a cockroach like there are so many ways to lead our town or decide how this market would look like as its end result.

As long as at the end of the day, the Mayor is doing what is good for the town / community, that is what she is elected for. I have no problem her building this market as long as everything is LEGAL, then she has my approval, period.

I only have a problem with those people who open their mouths saying they can do better but have not proven to actually had done things to reflect what they are saying. I also have problems with those who are running for elected offices trying to get what the governements can do for them like monthly salaries town and baranggay officials, instead of thinking what they can do for the people they are serving or their country or community.

You should have your personal resources already on board that can sustain your life as a public servant or elected public official. Because commitment and voluntary public service is what these work is all about. If you do not have enough personal resources, then leave public office and work somewhere else to make a living other than extracting money from people's money being a public official.

I see, a new guideline to run for public office, rich and able! Hmmmm...interesting.

The quote you mentioned is probably adapted from the late Abraham "Ditto" Sarmiento Jr, a UP Diliman student activist and Martial Law martyr, who urged his fellow students: "Kung hindi tayo kikilos, sino ang kikilos? Kung di tayo kikibo, sino ang kikibo? Kung hindi ngayon, kailan pa?" ("If we do not act, who will act? If we do not care, who will care? If not now, when?") Source: Wikipedia

I too share your dream of an advocacy group. This is what is sorely lacking in Bohol, especially one that is non-partisan. You start it I will join it. Just let me know.

Thank you for that Jig. I think we need to do that.

As an example here in Florida very recently, the Florida Congress was deliberating on a House Bill that will adversely affect the retirement system as one of the measures to save money for the state. It was like a hotcake and subject to debate and conversation from all walks of life.

We lobbied for squashing the bill; we did signature campaign, phone calls, personal letters, emails and all kinds of campaigns to prevent the passage of the said bill. We won. The bill was killed before it kills us.

Similarly, we can do it for Bohol. As an advocacy group, we don’t need to spend so much money to advance our agenda; we only need commitment and dedication.  We only need one unified stand to show that we care for our hometown.

Just like what we did for the acacia trees in Guindulman. It is an advocacy in nature, but look at the effect, it created an awareness to the people and the government side. We may not bring the lives of the trees back, but we can prevent further distraction.  We will be there to watch... and say Hep... No..no.. when needed.

“It is not the will to win, but the will to prepare to win makes a difference.”

this won't help those pitiful kids at the moment nor would this give them their next meal, but i must say they are luckier than that abused little boy neighbor of ours long ago because they are together and are thoughtful about each other.

WOW! Bongga....

Unsa man ang financing ani? Grant or Loan?

Scary, how a small town can pay for the amortization of this market? Well, if the stalls will be fully occupied, then there will be no problem meeting the financial requirements. Assuming there are vendors, are there buyers too?  Considering the economy in Guindulman, I doubt if the people has that spending capabilities like the big city.

I don’t want to sound presumptuous (forgive me) but , I can’t help thinking that  right now we can see a WHITE ELEPHANT on the making in the heart of Guindulman. Another administrative blunder should I say. Tssskk.

May the souls of the acacia trees will not vindicate, curse and scare the Good Luck Fairy away.

I married an American national. It was a whirlwind, though hard to believe because I don’t like America to begin with (no hypocrisy here).

I was working in Congress at the time and there were pressures to work long hours especially during budget hearing. So to kill the time I started chatting in YM and met this guy. That was March 2000. By June, I was in the US for some official functions of my office, and of course, I grabbed that opportunity to meet this guy. We got married by October and the rest was history.

Well, that is is not the biggest surprise actually.  My best friend for years left the Philippines and went to California for good. After 4 years he contacted me. He told me he decided to stay in the US despite of the fact that he hated it because he got no choice. He needs a life. He said,” The day you left for the United States, that was the day I was stupid and coward for letting you go.”

I broke down and cried… That was the biggest surprise of my life that until now I am wondering how our wonderful friendship ended up because we ignored what we feel.

Too darn late!!!!!
