your mom and pop must know this song.  it was common during mass celebrations in the period fr chic had mentioned.  (it looks like at that time, you were still floating in the cosmos wondering whether earth will accept you or not. ;D)

p.s. maybe watching the 1969 movie "goodbye mr. chips" will help.  (i haven't watched it myself, but i'm curious.  i hope it's still available somewhere.  it starred peter o'toole and petula clark.  well, if these two aren't familiar to you either, think of that blue-eyed guy in the movie "lawrence of arabia" and the song "don't sleep in the subway".  if these turn out to be more of the same strange territory to you, by jove, you must be a martian!) ;D

posting "don't sleep in the subway" song in another thread...

i'll definitely have to check those movies you mentioned, isles. thanks.

Today, i saw something very sad. An 8 year old patient who was a gun-shot wound victim (due to a gang drive by shooting). Patient could not be saved , one of my friends who was one of the interns trying to revive the patient in the ER really took the kid's death pretty hard. It was sad. A wasted life. That kid was in the wrong place , at the wrong time.

The gang shooting situation here in Chicago is bad. I hope that the police solves this endemic. Such an unnecessary loss of life.

We gave the patient 3 boluses of epinephrine, then defibrillation protocol. After 7 minutes, i feared we lost her. But after the last try, her EKG showed appearance of a dimmer pqrs, then it came back. It was very close...

Had a long day today. I had a patient who underwent a code blue, patient had a ventricular fibrillation, which eventually went into asystole. I was able to revive her after efforts to defibrillate the patient. I thought we were going to lose her. We saved her. Thank God.

Like I said, today was a long day.

glad it's over and done with.  it's sadistic.  imagine one's toes being broken, ugh.

My great-great grandmother did not have her foot bound because she was a working woman from the countryside. Women who were from the poshy cities of Imperial China or women of noble blood had their feet bound.

When my Lola Nating went to China in the 1930s she was able to meet her grandparents, as well as her grand aunts and uncles, there were some relatives who had their foot bound. Luoy kono to kai lisod mo lakaw og gi bound ang tiil.

Sadistic, indeed. Many Chinese women had no choice on the matter as their foots were bound at an early age. As early as 2-3 years old and continued till their adult years. This was an example of human cruelty, specifically targeting the women.

This is an old Chinese custom. This is no longer practiced in China, actually, the ones who enforced this old custom were the Qing (the last dynasty that ruled China). Interestingly enough, the Qing rulers were not ethnic Han Chinese, but were originally from Manchuria.

luoya pod sa mga janitor no gihimo mang sample... but janitor dili kabalo mo performed ug abortion di ba dong?

Nothing personal, Nong. It's just an example of work qualifications in nowaday's environment. The society here in the USA, and I'm sure in  your area in Canada requires some kind of Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree or even Doctoral Degree for advanced positions in the work field. It is very hard to make a living with no college degree in this society. The competition is just too high.

In fact, at Northwestern, where I am an adjunct clinical instructor, one student of mine, a former high school janitor, enrolled into the LPN program (Licensed Practical Nursing). In our quaint conversations he told me of the hardships in being a janitor, that education was really integral to advancing one's position in life. After several years as a janitor (this student of mine is in his late 30's), he decided to go to college and take up LPN and become a nurse. He is now in his 5th LPN class ; in his defense, he is a very sharp student. He said to me, "I should have gone to college when I was younger, instead of waiting.."

In regards to the last statement, I would hope that janitors aren't performing abortions. Not all doctors perform that, Nong, only in cases of medical emergencies eg, Ectopic pregnancies.

Regards.

In 1543, Andreas Vesalius stunned the world with detailed woodcuts that graphically revealed the inside of the human body. Some 460 years later, Alexander Tsiaras takes a much closer look in his new book, The Architecture and Design of Man and Woman. Vesalius based his images on crude dissection, but Tsiaras employs a more intricate technique: He layers 3-D high-resolution data â€" ultrasounds, CT and MRI scans, confocal laser scanning microscopy, and x-ray crystallography â€" to produce realistic and telescoping representations that burst through the skin and isolate the tiniest cells. While all the composites are scientifically correct, Tsiaras used software, built by his company Anatomical Travelogue, to add light and color. “My responsibility as scientist and journalist is to provide accurate information,” says Tsiaras. “My desire as artist is to make the images beautiful.”

septic infection refers to a condition called septicemia (or sepsis). it is when there is a bolus of bacteria in the blood.

both , septic tank and sepsis, are bad because they "stink" up the environment. septic tank stink up the actual external environment, and sepsis stinks up the interstitial milieu.

last saturday at almost midnight, a big fire broke out right across the street.  3 kids, all toddlers, perished.

i was ready, in case.  our two recently-rescued-off-the-street kittens were already in their carrier, and beside the carrier was my permanent "emergency bag" (containing valuables, legal documents, some cash, and a change of clothes).  i figured i can carry both while running.  and since we just came from watching a pyromusical contest (china vs. the netherlands in this instance) at the mall of asia and hadn't changed to house clothes, i simply changed from high heels to running shoes.

glad we heard an anticipated mass before the pyromusical contest.

I'm sorry to hear about this, may their souls rest in peace.

KATHMANDUâ€"A 72-year-old man from a remote valley in southwestern Nepal was on Sunday declared the shortest man ever documented after being measured by Guinness World Records officials.

Chandra Bahadur Dangi stands just 54.6 centimeters (21.5 inches) tall, measurements confirmed, 5.3cm shorter than Filipino Junrey Balawing, the previous holder of the “world’s shortest man” title.

“I’m continually amazed that this record keeps getting broken,” Guinness World Records editor-in-chief Craig Glenday said in a statement after the adjudication in the Nepali capital Kathmandu.

“Just when you think it’s impossible for the record to get any smaller, Mr. Dangi comes along and astonishes us all.

“What I find equally remarkable is his age â€" if he really is 72, he is by far the oldest person to be awarded the shortest-man record in Guinness World Record’s 57-year history,” Glenday added.

Dangi has also been declared the shortest human adult ever documented, taking the accolade from India’s Gul Mohammed, who was measured at 57 cm before he died in 1997 aged 40.

Dangi, who weighs 12 kilograms (26.5 pounds), was brought to the attention of the world only three weeks ago after Nepali researchers looking into the history of the Dangi people were introduced to him.

He told AFP in his first interview with Western media earlier this month that recognition at the end of his life would be some compensation for years of hardship.

The pensioner, who was orphaned at 12, says relatives used to display him at freak shows to make money for themselves and that he has never experienced romance or found his soulmate.

“Until now, Chandra’s stature has been a burden; he is acutely aware of the difficulties of fitting into an average-sized world and is disappointed at having missed out on the chance to find a wife,” Guinness World Records said on Sunday.

“He is hopeful, though, that his new title will see a change in his fortunes.”

The cause of his stunted growth remains a mystery although many holders of the “world’s shortest man” crown have suffered from primordial dwarfism.

Dangi earns a sparse living weaving jute headbands and has only ever left his village in poverty-stricken Dang district, 350 kilometers (220 miles) from Kathmandu, a handful of times.

Guinness World Records quoted Dangi, who visited Kathmandu for the first time to be measured, as saying he was too old for marriage but would still like to travel.

“I want to visit foreign countries and meet people from around the world,” Dangi said.

Another Nepali, Khagendra Thapa Magar, claimed the title in 2010 after being measured at 67 cm.

Magar’s stint as the world’s shortest man saw him travel to more than a dozen countries and make television appearances in Europe and the United States.

He was also the official face of Nepal’s tourism campaign, which featured him as the smallest man in a country that is home to the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest.
