OT: What part of Mindanao did you buy your land, Mr. Ferniz? I am impressed with the energy-oriented activities in the agrarian industry in the Philippines. The country really is going progressive. Even if it is only in a case-by-case basis.

The land is in Esperanza, Agusan Del Sur, a boundary between Agusan and Bukidnon Provinces.

During the 1960's this place was destroyed by a logging. They sold thier trees to Entrepreneurs which leave them with unproductive soil, landslides and floods. Nowadays people realized thier mistakes and started planting back native trees, as well as commercial trees. This initiative started a decade back during the time of President Ramos and now, the people are harvesting thier trees and you can see the hills are green again. Amazingly, since 5 years back, the annual flood stopped even it rained hard last year.

We also planted commercial trees in one of our land. The commercial name of the tree is "Palcata". I don't know the scientific name of that tree, but they told it is a mutation of the Acacia. It is fast growing tree and in 5 years you can start harvesting. The good thing about this tree is you cut it halfway during harvest and it grows back branches and again you will harvest a year after and so on.

This is used for paper production and the company buying will harvest free of charge. The profitability of the harvest is around P200,000 per hectare per year. Hopefully, I will start harvesting after 3 years from now.

My inlaws who is taking care of the land told that a Malaysian aproached them and asked if we would sell the land for Palm Tree plantation. I instructed them not to sell. Also the Mayor of the place refused to sell any land to the Malaysians or any foreigner. The mayor being a native "Manobo" elder, told that this land is sacred for thier tribe.

Sadly, in Bukidnon, the people are selling thier lands and many Malaysian companies are already cultivating Palm for oil production. They pay minimum taxes to Phil. Govt. and all profits will go to their banks in Malaysia.

This is sad and unacceptable.

Needless to remind doctors of what they swore before Humanity:

TheDeclaration of Geneva
(Writtenin 1948 and amended to the current form in 1983 by the World MedicalAssociation.)

Isolemnly pledge myself to consecrate my life to the service of humanity;

I will give to my teachers the respect and gratitude which is their due;

I will practice my profession with conscience and dignity;

The health of my patient will be my first consideration;

I will respect the secrets which are confided in me, even after the patient has died;

I will maintain by all means in my power the honor and the noble traditions of the medical profession;

My colleagues will be my brothers;

I will not permit considerations of religion, nationality, race, party politics or social standing to intervene between my duty and my patient;

I will maintain the utmost respect for human life from its beginning even under threat and I will not use my medical knowledge contrary to the laws of humanity;

I make these promises solemnly, freely, and upon my honor.

Moreover, I hope that our physicians would spare a minute to ponder upon this quote:

"This rush toward what some have termed the 'commercialization' of medicine and others have called the 'industrialization' of medicine has bewildered physicians, perhaps because we have instinctively sensed that although there have always been some business aspects to medical practice, medicine, in the most fundamental sense, is not a business."

Let me share you one real story of applied genetics.

Last Nov, we bought a land in Mindanao at a very cheap price of Php20,000 with an area of 2 hectares. We decided to plant corn, so we asked my wife's sister to watch the land and plant corn.

During harvest time, we sent her a note to keep some sacks for their consumption.

To my surprise, they told me that the corn they planted is not edible nor safe for human consumption. They have planted a genetically engineered corn for fuel production. They said if you eat the corn it will make you sick due to it's high starch level. This corn will be processed by one company to be converted fuel additive to gasoline or diesel and the stems will be processed as animal feed.

They harvested last Feb and the company who bought the corn harvested the crops for free.

If this is the trend of genetics, then it is a good progress to humanity.

If plans push through, diri sa Tagbilaran and hopefully sa ubang parts sa Visayas, mahimong distributor mi sa glutatione and other related beauty & health products from Japan nga ang brand Mosbeau. I-launch formally ang product sa Manila sa among Japanese partner in July this year with Beth Tamayo as image model ug coverage namo ang Visayas and hopefully Mindanao.

Bene,

As I informed to you, we are exclusive distributor of a Japanese brand in the Middle East named "Pigeon Baby Products". To give you an idea of the size, our turn over for Saudi Arabia alone is USD 260MM annually. KSA being the largest in terms of land mass and population claims 60% of sales share Vs. smaller ME countries (Kuwait, Lebanon, UAE, Bahrain, Qatar...etc.). Baby products sector is fast growing with very limited competition.

Regarding cosmetics, competition is very tough; however, since the ME is a melting pot, there is always a good opportunity, where it matters on management and marketing.

You may send company portfolio of Mosbeau to my email: purchase@gtcl.com.sa and I will endorse it to our GM for review.

We too have cosmetics products like: Sebamed from Germany, Brylcreem and Kiwi from Zetra UK, Church and Dwight products. We also distribute optical like Bausch&Lomb Contact Lenses and Designer Sunglasses/frames from Italy. Also WD-40. You may notice the variety of our acquired portfolio, which proves anything sells here as mostly the market is expanding and unsaturated.

However, like Japan, it is imposible for a foreigner to establish a private business here in Saudi Arabia. The King won't allow any outsiders except if you sell it to a Saudi National as franchise. So, kutob ra ta sa empleyado.

Regarding Mindanao distributorship, the brother of my wife owns a bakery business in Butuan and his wife a nutritionist dealing beauty products (door-to-door selling). I am pretty sure they can handle the northern Mindanao Area and I can guarantee their integrity. His wife is good in public speaking being the one who conducts seminars in CARAGA region for nutrition facts sponsored by Nestle. They too are Boholanos migrated to mindanao.

For further discussions and help, please send me PM. Not now, since you are still busy.

Once again, welcome back to TB.

So once again, I urged everybody to spread the below campaign to your friends.

The Wholesale Electricity Spot Market is a facility created by law that is supposed to be helping the household consumers. However, it has not achieved its purpose. On the contrary, it has become a major cause for the rising electricity cost for the poor Filipino family.

Please read and sign the petition  to Congress for the repeal of the law creating it. The petition can be found at http://www.petitiononline.com/wesm01/petition.html  Please click this link.

By signing the petition, you will be able to help millions of Filipinos who are now suffering from the effects of price increases.

Likewise, please forward this message to your friends and relatives.

Thank you.

What's this supposed to mean, Olintaha?  How was it possible to involve vote buying in the online voting?  And manipulative vote?  Was the website hacked by Filipinos so Chocolate Hills can be in the top 7?  I have to admit I have not been following the website to know the developments and when I searched, Inquirer didn't give any reason to connote that there was "vote buying and manipulative voting".  Please help me in understanding what you meant kay galibog ko why Chocolate Hills wa removed from the list.  I am pretty sure you know more than I do to say this.  Salamat po!

Migawas ang atong pagka bolanon nga humok ilaron.  :) Nailad tang tanan.  :) No less than Guv. Aumentado organized a "vote brigade" to fill the web with votes. In fact, Mayor Lim was commissioned by Guv. Aumentado to travel to the U.S. to push for the campaign. Maybe we should be careful next time. There's always a first time. I hope it wont happen again.

Feeling celebrity pod si Dan Lim, so mura to ug vacation niya. His trip could draw balikbayans enough to close all flights to Bohol this coming July.

This may be the reason why:

http://trak.in/tags/business/2007/06/04/new-7-wonders-of-the-world-scam-to-make-millions-of-profit/

It says:
The New Seven Wonders of the World is a proposed revision of the Seven Wonders of the World, organized by a Swiss-based, for-profit corporation called New Open World Corporation (NOWC). The selection is being made by free and paid votes, through telephone or online. The first vote is free to registered members and additional votes may be purchased through a payment to NOWC. In addition to the sale of votes, NOWC relies on private donations, the sale of merchandise such as shirts and cups, and revenue from selling broadcasting rights.

So, this Swiss based firm is a “FOR PROFIT CORPORATION”, and where profits are involved, how can one have a fair and impartial voting ?

Mao nga mi bagsak sila ug certain amount sa ilang projected target this year para ma save ilang projected sales. As above fact, puede man paliton ang votes. Siguro ilang gi anticipate sa dili pa Summer. Note nga ang average tourist once a year ra mo biyahe unya iyang pili-on kung unsa ang trend/sikat or bag-o nga destination.

Bisan daghan ta, wala man tay millions puro votes ra man.

Imbis mo vote mo sa 7Wonders, maayo pa mo sign na lang mo ug petition para sa Electricity Hike kay makatabang pa mo sa mga pobreng Filipino nga naapektohan. Here's the link: http://tubagbohol.mikeligalig.com/index.php?topic=12079.0

Yes Mikey, your website is one way of promoting Bohol. I've been telling your website to my brother and relatives in northern CA.

Beth, I too started using my tubagbohol email. It makes me feel elite and cool. I sent emails to my friends and they responded saying "Viewha Kaayo Bay". To non Boholano audience, that is equivalent to saying "cool" in Boholano language.

Monuments and buildings from all countries and continents in the whole world were eligible and invited to be nominated. However, only 21 Candidates from 21 countries were selected as Finalists (see Authority entry below) to be brought to vote. (Only 1 Finalist Candidate was allowed per country).

There was one case study conducted by an Indian geneticist regarding one tribe located East of Sumatra "the Andamans", where their genetic marker did not fit to the puzzle of human migration patern. They even suggests that these tribes exists before the ice age, before man migrated from Africa to Central Asia.

Such case sparked controversy that scientists, researchers and the media flocked the place.

Our case, is only of local interest and very isolated. However, if exposed, some may be interested like independent researchers and masteral students of these field conducting thesis. Going through a private company would cost millions.

On the other hand, genetics plays an important role in world health, but it is also a very dangerous tool to wipe out an entire species, like carrying a bomb in your pocket.

Normally, I don't celebrate birthdays and during that time, I just sort of wildly browsing the web using the key word Bohol. Then I found Tubag Bohol a Bibo site. There were many interesting topics back then that lured me to join finally. There was a link at DYRD, but unfortunately they don't want to associate with us and I don't understand the real meaning of public service as thier theme. So the link was cut.

Nevertheless, we are capable of making our own radio station if we want to.

Thanks for posting this topic.

I remembered my best friend Wolfy. Pareha sila ug color ug breed ug naa pod siya puti sa dughan.

That was during my younger age, buotan kaayo ug playful. Inig mata nako sa buntag, mi tapad na ug higda. Mo uban pod to nako sa School. Perhaps ako lang ang estudante nga nag dala ug iro. Dili man mo tuo ug pa uli-on, mo uban gyud.

Pero na paakan to ug lain nga iro sa among silingan unya na takdan ug rabbies. He became paralyzed and unable to eat. I forced water into his mouth because he had a lock-jaw due to rabbies. I took care of him until his last breath. At the last moment, he wagged his tail and then stopped breathing. I cried too much that time. Perhaps that time, I missed the unconditional love from my pet dog.

You remembered the thread Wajde tribe in Bohol?

I wondered if there is any company in the US who is providing free genotyping services.

I have a strong doubt that the Wajde tribe did not originate in India but in Wajdi New Guinea. Based on physical characteristics of those tribes, there is no evidence/manifistation of Indian features. However, there is a huge resemblance to the Aborigine race.

If we could identify the dominant genetic marker of that population, then only we can conclude.

Never use Yahoo Messenger's video. Computer geeks know how to grab your YM videos (containing private secrets).

Also never keep your camera facing your bed. You might be caught sleeping in thin night gown or upskirt and post it in public. I have seen videos of these posted all over.  Also one of my friend, an ex-hacker told me that he is able to boot a computer as long as the network line is connected and can manipulate the webcam. So if the webcam is facing your bed or bathroom, he can turn on your computer, use your camera and record whatever it is.

He is an Indian and I just asked him now. He told me that his hacking program is 5 years obsolete and by now, there must be more powerful and advanced programs & techniques to hack. So be careful.

Perhaps there is a way to trace and arrest this vandal if you will report it to your federal agents.

The internet is being monitored by the FBI and if you file a complaint they will surely take note.

What we are writing here, the FBI is already reading and probably they have already traced the guy doing this. But any complaint affecting only few people will be ignored.

Interesting desease. I am still confused what is the difference between a desease and abnormality. If ALS is a genetic abnormality, then it is not a desease and can not be treated. Abnormality in a gene is something natural with no treatment, but we can only re-divert its fate to make the person better. Or maybe to eliminate the problem genes through breeding techniques so this can not be passed to the next generation. I remembered one of my neighbors said that she will choose the bride of his son because they have some sort of blood abnormalities. Incase her son chooses the wrong pair, her grandson will surely suffer from a rare form of anemia.

Also, I have seen on TV a documentary about a tribe with defective gene which causes thier feet to branch out, thus they are called the "ostrich feet tribe". A defective gene was identified and it was nutralized through selective breeding. So for some period of time, they can not choose their true love.

How is Lou Gehrig's disease compared to Alzheimers desease. Can ALS be treated with the controversial stem cell? By the way, there is now new and easy way to collect stem cell from the placenta instead of the aborted fetus which became controversial during George Bush time.

How about gene therapy, I am also curious, it says it can make you young or change your race from asian to caucasian, is it true?

As long as there is corruption, mismanagement and population explotion, this problem is expected.

Immediate solution is to halt all rice export temporarily until the situation is stabilized, monitor and impose strict price regulation for both trade and retail, audit and bust all warehouses suspected of hoarding, re-distribute supply to provinces most affected.

Long term solution is to promote conservation, resources management, forecasting demand seasonality, education to farmers (maximizing production and eliminate waste) and population control.

This is just easy to say, but implementation is a gigantic task with involvement/coordination from both government and private sectors.

However, the fire to make things happen must come from the individual Filipino.

This is what I can think of for now.

'The Grid' Could Soon Make the Internet Obsolete
FOXNEWS Monday, April 07, 2008

The Internet could soon be made obsolete. The scientists who pioneered it have now built a lightning-fast replacement capable of downloading entire feature films within seconds.

At speeds about 10,000 times faster than a typical broadband connection, “the grid” will be able to send the entire Rolling Stones back catalogue from Britain to Japan in less than two seconds.

The latest spin-off from Cern, the particle physics centre that created the web, the grid could also provide the kind of power needed to transmit holographic images; allow instant online gaming with hundreds of thousands of players; and offer high-definition video telephony for the price of a local call.

David Britton, professor of physics at Glasgow University and a leading figure in the grid project, believes grid technologies could “revolutionise” society. “With this kind of computing power, future generations will have the ability to collaborate and communicate in ways older people like me cannot even imagine,” he said.

The power of the grid will become apparent this summer after what scientists at Cern have termed their “red button” day - the switching-on of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the new particle accelerator built to probe the origin of the universe. The grid will be activated at the same time to capture the data it generates.

There is a lot of potential hazzard to these reef incase of oil leakage or tanker accident.

It looks to me that these three governors are wearing a smiling face to hide a bad intention. Stop wearing two faces!

I don't mean we have to fight physically by having guerilla or suicide bombers because that is an act of terrorism against civilian and we can't gain friends or support from it. What I mean is we have to fight like the Palestinian in spirits because we knew we won't win the war but maybe in the wider sense we gain supports from those fair and freedom loving nations without politics. At least we show to the world, that we filipinos are brave and are ready to die for our country.

In the western world, people pay bigger percentage of tax to their governments while we in the Philippines we pay lesser, and despite of that majority of people try to avoid or escape paying tax. Tax revenue is the blood of economically stable country, these is where budgets are derived. It means more tax revenue the richer the country is.... Withis, I think our military defense problem will be solved, but again it is on trial because the filipino masses might not support that, like the US statehood campaign.

As I comment earlier; we must rely in ourselves, patronized what we have and be self sufficient. I think that is the only way that we can guarantee that our best interest as nation will be protected. I hope our politicians and the filipino masses who elect them, shall understand the true value of Nationalism.

"I salute you Guy Matabao"

What we need as a country is to revive patriotism at individual level and to have social revolution (change of mind-set in favor for the Filipinos). With this two basic steps, all good things will flow.

Further, I also believed that Dr. Jose Rizal, being a brilliant man, continued his fascination about Philippine history during his excile in Dapitan. He must have gathered reliable information from the 3rd generation descendants of Boholanos who migrated to Dapitan. Note that Dapitan was once the annex of Boholanos who migrated due to tribal conflicts in pre-spanish era, thus there must be frequent travells and exchange of information between both communities. So during the time of Rizal, the people of Dapitan must have a sort of word-by-mouth history from thier great grand parents and Rizal must have noted it.

If there was an educated man who knows better about what twists the spaniards made to our history, it was Dr. Jose Rizal.

Thanks for the post Mr. WN,

Regarding the emblem, I can not find a clearer shot since I am outside the Philippines and relying only on the internet. Hence, I would appreciate if anybody residing in Bohol could take some close shots of uncommon symbols or emblems in Baclayon Church so it could help us decipher its origins and meanings.

Incase Mr. WN, you have clear photo of the same, appreciate if you could post it here so together we can unearth the true history.

Philippines can not be an American State. Why? Long time ago, for two seasons; first Spanish-American, then Japanese-American that was World War II
our forefathers were always asking for independence. Why? Because of pride, they said Fiipino freedom, we want our own identity and our own Filipino government and many other reasons. In our modern times do you think that idea will gain support? No.....for same reasons...further at present we have more Anti-American Organizations. Maybe that idea of statehood will win in Bohol. Remember after the Marcos regime, the late Assemblyman/Senator
Bartolome C. Cabangbang from Tubigon lead that campaign for statehood. What happen....nothing, no support from the Filipinos.

Remember...Why the Chinese and Indians are successfull? They stand with there own, they patronize what ever thay had and self-sufficiency. Most Chinese wore plain white T-shirts made in China while Filipinos want to wear T-shirts with NIKE printed on it. Indians they still wear their "Purong ng mga Bombay", they never change that to a baseball cap. These are the essence of nationalism that contributes and make them successful, most of filipinos dont have that. In the Spratly issue, without American support we can hold that, if we fight like the Palestinians.

You mean skirmishes and guirella warfare. This will be very long and enduring. Please note that this is a different scenario as we are talking about wide and open sea with no place to hide. With this type of environment, we can not deceive the enemy. Thier sophisticated radars could detect any incoming intruders from miles away and their ships are equiped with powerful canons or smart missiles. Hence, suicide bombing technique by the Palestinians can not be applied.

They are only interested in the Spratly's, so they don't need to invade the Philippine mainland. With advance military supremacy, they can steal/exploit our resources in Spratlys as we watch helplessly.

Our only hope is US intervention incase deplomacy is failing. Souvereignty will be sacrificed, but it is a matter of choosing the less evil.

My worries:
Considering that the US has high economic dependence on China Vs. the Philippines, I don't know which side will the US favor? However, at least there is an intervention or a mediator.

WN,

About the Door Carving of Baclayon Church, I compared it with traditional wood carving in Bali Indonesia. Please notice the close similarity.

Baclayon Church Door Carving

Here is the whole door view

Now folks, notice its significance to Bali's Traditional carving. Note that Bali is believed to be the last refuge of the Sri Vijayan Empire.

Bali Traditional Carvings:

Carving is like handwriting to the craftsman and patern is like its alphabet.

Further, the above door carving at Baclayon Church is obviously a Lotus flower, which is a significant Symbol of Budhism and Hinduism. Since Budhism is a derivative from Hinduism, both religions worshiped the lotus as favorite flower of thier gods. It represents eternity, purity and divinity and is widely used as a symbol of life & fertility.

Macky,

Please post the picture... And how about the carvings on the door? If the carvings on the door was done by a native Boholano in the 16th or 17th century his cutural influence must be from the Sri-Vijayan or the Majapahit empires and not with the European cultures.

WN

Thanks WN,

This is the photo of Gargoyle found in Baclayon Church which depicts the face of Budha. Notice the near square figure of the face which is common sculpture of Srilankan or Thai Budha. As noted, Shri Vijayans empire streched from Java to Ancient Champa Kingdom (Thailand & Vietnam) and its origin is from Sri Lanka or Ceylon.

Bran, since this topic is related to Igorots, I will post it here:

As I said, this topic is about a princes warrior; however, this historical account is controversial and subject to historical scrutiny

In Search of a Princess
By Chit Balmaceda Guiterrez

Princess Urduja ancient accounts say, was a 14th century woman ruler of the dynastic Kingdom of Tawalisi in Pangasinan, a vast area lying by the shores of the Lingayen Gulf and the China Sea. Pangasinan was an important kingdom then, and the sovereign was equal to the King of China. Known far and wide, Princess Urduja was famous for leading a retinue of woman warriors who were skilled fighters and equestrians. They developed a high art of warfare to preserve their political state. "These womenfolk took to the battlefields because the male population was depleted by the series of wars which came with the rise and prominence of the Shri-Visayan Empire in the sixth to the 13th centuries," the accounts said. Strong and masculine physique, they were called kinalakian or Amazons.

The saga of this unique princess was the stuff of legend. Parents and teachers tell her story like they would a fairytale, or the biography of Gabriela Silang, an 18th-century revolutionary, or Tandang Sora, a granny who fed members of the Katipunan.

The legend of Princess Urduja can be attributed to the famous story of Mohammedan traveler, Ibn Batuta of India. In 1347 he was a passenger on a Chinese junk, which has just come from the port of Kakula, north of Java and Sumatra and passed by Pangasinan on the way to Canton, China.
Urduja, who had a particular fascination for the renowed "Pepper Country"--pepper being considered black gold then--was quoted by Batuta as saying, "I must positively go to war with that country, and get possession of it, for its great wealth and great forces attract me."

For a time, feminists tried to revive the Urduja story but were discouraged to learn that Batuta's account of the voyage to Tawalisi was labeled as either an intrigue or a fantasy. Scholars, considering the story absurd, declared Urduja a myth.

The Philippines' national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, in Dr. Austin Craig's 1916 paper
"Particulars of the Philippines' Pre-Spanish Past" was quoted as saying in one of his letters: "While I may have doubts regarding the accuracy of Ibn Batuta's details, I still beleive in the voyage to Tawalisi". He went as far as to calculate the distance and time of travel from the port of Kakula. Rizal's commentary was triggered by a scholar, Sir Henry Yule, who wrote in his time that: "Tawalisi may be found only in a Gulliver geography."

Today, years after scholars have passionately debated whether the 14th-century heroine is a product of mythology or history, Princess Urduja continues to fascinate Filipinos. In Pangasinan, the Governor's office building in the coastal town of Lingayen is called the Urduja Palace. So is a hotel along the highway.

Urduja's name still has great resonance among the Ibaloi, one of the major ethnolinguistic tribes in the Cordillera region. Dr. Morr Tadeo Pungayan, a respected scholar of Ibaloi culture and professor at the St. Louis University of Baguio City, said, "Linguistically, Urduja is Deboxah (pronounced Debuca) in Ibaloi. We've always had a woman named Deboxah from time immemorial among the genrations of Ibaloi. The name usually describes a woman of strong quality and character who's nobly descended. That name is an Ibaloi name. That's why Ibaloi trace their ancestry from Urduja".

The Cordillera tribes, also known collectively as Igorots, pride themselves as being the only ethnic group that doesn't talk about the origin of man according to Spanish chronicles. Among the tribes, genealogy and family history are orally passed history. The Ibaloi, just like other highland tribes, could easily trace their ancestry. This is ensured by their custom of naming newborns after ancestors to help keep their memory alive and evoke affection and protection.
"No Ibaloi will bear the name of an ancestor unless she's related," Dr. Pungayan explained. While the Bontoc tribe bestows the name of an ancestor to a grandchild, the Ibaloi style is namesaking the great-grandchild, he added.

A book on the history of Benguet province, written by Anavic Bagamasbad and Zenaida Hamada-Pawid, shows the Benguet genealogy tracing tribal family lines from the year 1380 to 1899. The book says, "The extent of inter-settlement alliances is climaxed in the memory of Tublay informants with the reign of Deboxah, Princess Urduja, in Pinga. She's acknowledged as the granddaughter of Udayan, an outstanding warrior of Darew. Her death signaled continuous decline of kinship and alliance between highland and lowland settlements."

The Darew mountain range is remembered as the earliest settlement in the mining town of Tublay. The close relations between the Cordilleras and Lingayen are well-accounted for in Batuta's chronicle. It said that the Kingdom of Tawalisi was very extensive, including the vast areas up to the fringes of the Benguet mountains and the Cordillera ranges in the east of Luzon.
Th ruler, Batuta further said,"possesses numerous junks with which he makes war upon the Chinese until they sue for peace and consent to grant him certain concessions."

Despite recent research, however, most academicians remain cold to oral history, saying that such accounts still have to pass through stringent rigors of scholarship.

Today, some historians consider the issue of Urduja's historicity as closed. Compounding the issue is the lack of archaelogical evidence on the existence of the Shri-Visayan Empire. In fact, other aspects of Philippine history are being doubted, too, especially since the late William Henry Scott, an American historian in the Cordillera, proved that the so-called pre-Hispanic laws--the Kalantiaw and Maragtas Codes--were faked or invented by psuedo historians who only wanted fame or riches for themselves.

Dr. Jaime Veneracion, the University of the Philippines head of history department, said that the old Chinese scripts which may have chronicled Urduja's kingdom have remained inaccessible for their archaic language and calligraphy.

But history buffs like writer Ed Reyes remain undaunted. He says: "The researchers aren't conclusive, given the fact that the Philippine history has only been covered in writing for the last 500 years".

Just a wild guess:

Probably the meteorite that falls in Yukutan splited in two upon hitting the atmosphere, thus one split falls nearby, probably the Bermuda Triangle.

Another one:
Since Meteorites came from outer space, it may have high quantities of anti-matter. Note that anti-matter is abundant in outer space and most commonly found in the center of our Galaxy. Its presence may cause sudden burst of energy when in contact with matter creating wind vortex that eventually develops into tropical typhoons.

Just having fun with creative imagination.

Philippines is on a strategic military location. Other than this, I don't think the US have acquisitive interest on our natural resources because if so, they would have taken the Philippines as the 51st State long back, but they gave us our independence.

The US has vast surplus of resources that they have not touched their oil reserves in Texas and kept Alaska unexploited for future generation.

So, I believe reinstalling a US base in the Philippines would keep China from advancing its military arrogance in the region.

However, now that hostility between the US vs. Vietnam, China & Russia had been neutralized and main focus is the Middle East, I doubt if they are still interested.

The reason why China and India's economy remains strong is because of thier hard-line policies.

In India, a foreign company or business are not allowed if there is no 70% Indian ownership. That means 70% of profit will come back to India.

The same is true in China. For example Nike Shoes established branding in the US with production in China. Actually, there is no such thing as Nike factory in China, but shoes are made by 3 or 4 different contractors. So, 100% of profit in production will go to China. The US will only profit from branding royalty and not in production.

In the Philippines, very few companies would invest in production due to high fuel cost.

I have this insecure feeling if China will collaborate with Philippines. In terms of manpower, they have already surplus labors. Hence, they are only after of one thing and that is our natural resources.

Happy,

I think it refers to a people. My Lola used to say when she sees a person with an Indian stock as "Wadje". Now we used to say when we see an Indian as "Bombay". Wadje was named after a people. Wadje is used also as a family name.

WN

Thanks Mr. Matig-a for this very interesting topic.

Since the Spanish conquestadors have literally erased/conspired/fabricated our history and heritage, all we can do is conduct a constructive history through existing facts, physical/geographical observation, forensics, genetics and based on parallel history.

With reference to the Wadje, the evidence of its existence is erased and as you said, the bridge linking the past is destroyed. However, I can not see any physical evidence as to the existence of Indian existence based on the following:
1. As said, Wadje is an Indian race, but people in that area does not depict the characteristics of Indian facial and physical features like long noses & big eyes.
2. Most of the Indians (Hindus) would build temples wherever they migrate. However, there is no single physical evidence or artifact found linking to Hinduism practice; i.e. jars, temples, ceramics, metal works..etc.

However, our quest for the truth does not end in a stalemate. So, I run a search and found some facts that would probably link us to the truth of this mystery.

I found that there is an Aborigine Tribe in Australia and New Guinea that is called Wadji-wadji. Their physical characteristics are dark brown, big eyes, but flat noses. Native Australians could navigate vast distances often traveling through the aid of stars.

Hence, we could only postulate posibilities that the Wadje are the Wadji-wadji tribe who migrated from Australia to Bohol.

As to the name, we can interchange the vowels “i” & “e” without affecting the meaning.

Geographically, there are more odds/possibility for travellers to reach Bohol from Australia or New Guinea than India.

The only way to prove this hypothesis is conduct blood test to every male, non-migrant residents from Ubujan to Cortes and see if we can obtain significant percentage of Indian or Aboriginee genetic marker on thier Y-chromosomes.

Hope you consider my suggestions as basis of a new historical study.

BINGO!

I just found a place in New Guinea named "Wadji" with coordinates: 5° 25' 0" South, 144° 5' 0" East. This is just a straight nagivation down southeast from Samar and Leyte.

This is a strong support to my above hypothesis.

I was curious about the Wadje family. So, I run a search about this family in India. I found that this family name still exists and flourishing in India. Not only that, they are brilliant and known internationally in the field or science and technology.

Here are some of them:
1. S.S. Wadje : Co-author of "New fragmentation pathways in the electron impact mass spectrometry of derivatized pyrano-1,3-diphenylprop-2-enones"
2. Rajendra Wadje : Lead Consultant at Headstrong
3. Mr. Sandip Wadje, Asst. Director - Software Technology Parks (Leading Software developer for Aviation and Aerospace).

They evolved into scientist, programmers, economist, etc.

Since one of our members here Grazie Zamora Pitoy and Joey Tabacco are probably descendants of the Wadje clan from Mangga, this explains where they have inherited their brilliance.

You are right Guy Matabao,

I consider the big business tycoons as Filipinos. They are citizens of this country and therefore, they are filipinos, tho they are of chinese race.

We are living in a free country and for me it is OK to have Chinese businessmen in our country as long as they do business fairly.

They are not really a threat at all, infact they are the front runners and engine of our economy. Without them, our market will be stagnant.

The real threat our country is facing at present and as ever before is corruption. Corrupt officials who hoard our resources and hide it in bank accounts of foreign accomplice.

These tycoons like Gocongwei were not born with a silver spoon. They excel through discipline, determination, thriftiness and perseverance. They should be the role model among all of us Pinoys.

Hope I said it well folks.

Results of my pondering:

- Our very own Fil-Chinese are not a threat. They are our role models for economic survival.
- Fil-Chinese came to the Philippines due to one reason and that is to flee from persecution from Chinese communist party. Hence, I don't think they have allegiance in any form to the present Chinese government.
- Incase Chinese Government happens to collaborate with Philippine government, I believe Fil-chinese community would be the first to oppose.
- Real threat to our country is corruption by our public officials.
- The biggest threat I could imagine is a consented exploitation of our natural resources by the Chinese government through our government officials.

From the eye of the Westerners and the Europeans, we look cool with our tatoos, head gears, colorful embroidered chalikos, bling-bling ornaments and of course the package is not complete without the Kriss.

Imagine someone wearing like these and posing in men's fashion magazine. Isn't it cool?

Further, I remembered reading one article before that during the Spanish occupation, any native weapon is banned. Hence, to keep their passion and skills of sword fighting, the natives of Cebu and Bohol keep up the tradition by replacing it with sticks and called the new artform "Eskerima". It became popular as a form of dance during fiestas and later evolved into what is now called "doce - pares" means "twelve pairs" because there are 12 pairs of steps as the basic. It looks like martial arts, but it is a choreographed traditional dance with 12 steps as basic.

This artform is handed down from generation to generation and until now it is still practiced in Cebu and some parts in Bohol. The last teacher of this artform is "Kikoy" from Cebu who established a school and now flourished that this artform is recognized internationally.

When I was a kid, I've seen one in Baclayon, I forgot his name. He is an old man and he will stand balancing on 2 coconut shells and challenge you to a stick fight. He will say, OK if you can hit my body or topple me from where I stand (2 coconut shells), you will become a master. My friend tried hitting him hard and fast, but all his blows are intercepted with great speed and that old man have good balance.

Mr. Ferniz,

I don't know much about Eskrima; but I know it is very popular over here in the 'states. I knew it came from the Philippines but never knew that it originated from the Visayas. Amazing; we Bisayans truly are a warrior-like people.

Is eskrima similar to the Indonesian martial arts known as Pencang Silat? In Pencang Silat, they use the Golok (keris/kriss) in fastidious motion. It is disarmingly beautiful how it is practiced.

Thanks for sharing, Mr. Ferniz.

The Visayan's were constantly under threat from the Dutch and Indonesian marauder's, thus over time, they develop weapons and skills to defend themselves.

While during that time, slave trade were in full operation in the island of Java and Sumatra, our ancestors do whatever it takes to defend their teritories.

We, the freedom loving people refused to succumb over slavery.

kuya mack kadto pud weapon nga yoyo..

I also read that article that the Yoyo once was a weapon and not a toy. It was used by Lapu-lapu's men during the battle of Mactan to defeat Magellan. Made of heavy circular disc metal or stone and tied with a rope, when thrown to the oponent, it comes back immediately upon hitting.

Magellan's men saw this ingenious gadget and mimiced it on wood. It became a toy and called it "Yo-yo" means "me-me" in Spanish because it will come back to the user.

I voted too.

It would be a big boost to our tourism industry, should Chocolate hills qualify among the 7.

Anonymous Diary Blog / Re: Ang Bench Ni Tiya Gracia
April 11, 2008, 06:57:29 PM
Thanks for this post.

A bench is a venue of friendship and memories.

I have some compilation about bench, a piano piece for my daughter as below.

The Bench

A Symphony in B Flat Major

Andante con gusto
Sapphire swirled through pink and lavender,
as yellow rimmed clouds
scattered softly across the sky.
Weeping willows swayed
to legatto sounds from the water-fall
and the gentle trill from the lake.
A catfish jumped on a dotted eight,
and a mallard silently went gliding by
while dew drops glistened on new grass.

Molto lento
The bench is still there,
by the tranquil waters.
Still there…since that early spring morning.
One very much like this one,
when she lifted her gaze
and first saw his face.

Allegro non troppo
C'est le printemps! Le jardin est enchanté!
She abandoned her book on the bench â€"
it’d been her excuse, any way.
This is the place where they’d meet;
away from curious eyes,
away from noise and idle talk.
Here, where the air is sweet and
sunlight dribbles through supple leaves
as their lips birth a new song.
They walked briskly
from opposite sides of the lake.
Her hair swept by the breeze,
they rushed the last few steps,
they met,
they touched,
they kissed.

Stacatto
Summer; come and gone.
The bench; she sits â€" waits.
The book; read twice.
Fog looms over the lake.
The catfish rest.
Green turns yellow underfoot.
She heard it said
he has another’s hand.

Moderatto e con molto sentimento
The weather-beaten bench
still there, by the lake where she sits
holding a different book in her hand.
No use for the old one,
she knows the unfinished rhymes.

It is spring; like that one of long ago.
But the waterfall sings a different song,
and the colors, still sapphire
and lavender pink, matured
to deeper, richer hues;
the sun no longer yellow, but gold.

She drops her book on the bench â€"
it’s been an excuse, any way.
Not one, but two, come walking
from the other side of the lake.
She doesn’t run to them â€"
no need to; she walks.
They rush the last few steps.
They meet,
they touch,
they kiss.
One she calls husband,
the other, their son.

I have read some article from excerpts from a 14th century European voyager's log book describing an event during a battle between Dutch and Malays. A malay weapon was described as made from a meteorite metal core with a silver handle and it says it can easily cut a gun barrel or slice through thick metal armour. The name of the weapon is "Keris".

Gi tudloan na ko sa among IT unsaon pag hook sa Satellite. Ang problema kung mo abot ang signal sa Pilipinas kay ang range adto Europe hangtod India lang.

Pero mo bayad gihapon ka sa service sa satellite. Barato ra man ang "Wild Blue", tag $49.95 per month, unya kung imong i network sa imong silingan, lets say 10 people so tag $5 per month lang mo. Unya 24 hours na imong internet.

Ingon among IT nga naa kuno libre sa Hotbird Sat ug sa Indian satelite man siguro to pero decoded ang signal. Naay daghang wizard dire nga kamao mo crack ug code.

Mag research ko further kay murag maayo ni nag opportunity sa ato, unya maka tabang pa ta nga mo improve ang internet speed sa Bohol.

I am taking only extra toy packs from Cathay Pacific (my airline of choice). Also, I am taking inflight magazines as souvenir for a happy landing.

Toys are graciously given by the flight attendant to my kids for being polite and for not jumping/running around during the flight.

Taking life jacket is not right.

Bohol Latest News / Re: Bohol-China Friendship

Hope I said it well folks.

hmm.sabagay..nanalang ta to.. assembled in china. lisud jud te if naay made in china nga tatak. kay mostly bya sa china nga products dili lig-on

I like the practical aspect of China products. Tinuod dili lig-on pero some products does'nt need to be durable for simple reason of being obsolete in few months. Like USB flash memory or MP3 players, kung mo palit ka ug original, mahal kaayo unya abutan ug 6 months, obsolete na kay naa nay bag-ong technology nga mas advance. So I prefer to buy made in China MP3 players at 1/4 the cost of an Ipod.

The funny thing is that most of the US brands are made in China, patronized by Filipinos in the US, copied as counterfeit product by a chinese businessman in Bohol and this counterfeit products are being patronized by Boholanos, toink.

I have this idea of Fusion Menus (Filipino, Arabic, Indian, Mideteranean mixed menus).

The US is a melting pot for foods. Meaning any food you sell will sell. What gives you the edge to excel is the uniqueness of your product.

Akong opportunity: Curiosity of the Americans to try new taste and the craving of Pinoys for native food.

Plano ko mo bisita diha sa US next year para mag conduct ug survey ug feasibility study.
