Beautiful, I've never been to Anda. I'll have to remedy that this summer.

Lorenz, You're gonna love it there. A day trip to Anda I suggest to have a picnic & swim at the beach, stop by Anda church and Inday Potenciana (local Saint) burial chapel at the cemetary. Now, if you're in the mood for drinking, singing and little bit of dancing with your group I suggest visiting (clean, cold drinks and friendly host) Mahogany Drive Videoke Bar in Sawang .  Tell Inday, Margie sent you.

If you need more details I collected several "Discover Anda" brochures from the local Municipal office which I am willing to share with anyone who are interested.

FYI. Market day is every Tuesday only.

Dong Bran,

You're always welcome any time, just PM us on your itinerary.

By the way Bran, di ba you're a Medical student?  I wish you could meet my nephew who is now in John Hopkins Hospital.  He graduated from University of the Philippines, Manila, College of Medicine 2 years ago and belonged to the top 10 ( I believed he was on No. 7 ) in the Phil. Board Licensure Examination for Medicine. He is now in the US to specialize in Internal Medicine.

Mr. Ayag,

Yes, I am beginning 1st year proper this Fall 2008 (Im proceeding in a 5 year M.D/Ph.D program, God willing I finish it in time). If providence provides, I would like to talk to your nephew, perhaps he can give me some advices in taking the USMLE Board 1s and USMLE Board 2s.

Mr. Ayag, The University of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine is probably THE best medical school here in the United States, its neurology and surgical departments are state of the art, and sets the standards from which other medical schools observe their curriculum. In actuality, there are two medical schools in the east coast that are superior in education;

1. Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
2. The University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine (This is an Ivy League School)

Your nephew's residency in Johns Hopkins School of Medicine- Hospital System is indicative of his intelligence and excellence in clinical rotations, Sir. They only admit THE best of THE best.

Bran,
Yes I knew about them, my nephew was called by the John Hopkins and University of Pensylvannia's schools of medicine last September/October and left for the USA last November 2007.  But before he returned last November, he was in the USA for interviews with various schools...No doubt with his intelligence, he graduated Magna Cum Laude at the University of the Phils., I even told him that he surpassed probably my record... hehehe (among the clan)...  When he was in the US for the interviews, he stayed with my mom and sis in Union City, a long trip then.  Will try to get his contact number so I could pass it on to you...

I appreciate that, Mr. Ayag.

He's going into an area of medicine that will lead him to numerous specialties.
How old is your nephew btw, sir?

Bran,
I believe he is still 26 to 28 years old... very young, he was working then at the Philippine General Hospital (as most UPians would be asked to do ) before he left for the States.

He Will become one of the best after he finishes his residency in JH Hospital. They are known to train doctors, and mold them into department leaders. In the hospital where I do weekend internships, the head of the Emergency Medicine Unit finished his residency in Johns Hopkins.

Your family must be proud, sir!
Its not everyday that a child becomes a physician, and one that graduates as Magna Caum Laude at the UPhils, and then lands on one of the most competitive seats in the United States says alot.

:)

My humble regards,

Mr. Ayag,

My friend Faisal Khalid is doing his cardiology clinical rotations in Chicago near where your nephew is doing his residency. Do you mind if I send Faisal your nephew's email?

Perhaps they can get to know each other, as I know that Faisal is new to the area, he is from Maryland area not Chicago.

I'm sure he would appreciate seeing a warm face in Chicago.

Warmly,
Bran Lorenzo

Shives347,

Kanus-a man imo plano movisit and explore sa Anda.  I could personally arrange your itinerary. Nagdako ko sa Anda and I have some relatives there.

Pwede ta mag inato in terms of costing for your preference.  I could arrange for your arrival and stay in Tagbilaran, then transpo and accommodation in Anda (at your choice).  Duna nay mahal nga resort didto pero pwede ta mo arrange with others at a lower rate.

Pwede sad ko magpalukat og paw sa Agso/Talisay if you like, pwede sad ko magpakuha ug liswi/kaang sa Talisay.

Just let me know if you need help / assistance and make your stay in Anda memorable.

Regards.
Jun Ayag

If that is indeed Anda's public market today, I think the local officials need to work double time. It is an open market, there are no stalls to safekeep the goods. Too inviting for thieves and snatchers.  Also, Anda faces a vast sea, and when strong winds blow, plus rain, you could imagine how difficult it will be for both buyers and vendors. Quite a few markets in Bohol have been improved in structure and design, like those in Calape, Bilar, Catigbian, Tubigon, Guindulman, etc. It looks like Anda has a lot to catch up if it wants to increase its income from market collections. The town is also aiming to become the tourism hub of eastern Bohol, and a much improved market is a necessity.
