I'm called 'the poorest president', but I don't feel poor.  Poor people are those who only work to try to keep an expensive lifestyle, and always want more and more," he says.

"This is a matter of freedom.  If you don't have many possessions then you don't need to work all your life like a slave to sustain them, and therefore you have more time for yourself," he says.

Anonymous Diary Blog / The Day I Became A Catholic
November 14, 2012, 07:20:52 PM
My dad is a Muslim so he practices Islam and my mom is a Catholic. When I was born in 1975 in Jolo, I was baptized as a Muslim. My mom never said anything. She was obligated to follow my dad's wishes. When I turned 5 years old, my dad became a seaman so we moved out of Jolo to live in Bohol. I studied in HSS. When I was 6 years old, I became very ill because of dengue. As a matter of fact, the doctors already gave up. I was dying. They were just waiting for me to give up for I was so weak and ready to die. My mom was crying and decided that if it is God's will that He will take me away from her, then it is time for me to be baptized as a Catholic against my dad's wishes (he didn't know about it since he was a seaman). After baptism, Anointing of the Sick followed.
After an hour, I was healed miraculously. Even the doctors could not explain what happened. I was alive again.
When my dad found out what happened, he pulled us out of Bohol in january 1981, and took us back to Jolo. Although he cannot undo what my mom did, but our life became a living hell after that.... until my mom finally realized in 1997 that she has to stop this hell here on earth ....

What are the good qualities that you idolize about your parents that you like to emulate in your life? We all know that parents are the source of good manners for today's youth. So what are the things that you like about your parents--and what is it about them that  you love the most?

Nothing from my father. he doesn't have any good qualities in him. from my mom, her dedication to her family and she works hard to give us a good life, until now!

It's over: Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez are no longer a couple.

Gomez and Bieber broke up last week, E! Online reports. A source tells the site their "crazy schedules" made it tough to maintain their relationship. They dated for the better part of two years, going public at the Vanity Fair Oscar party in 2011.

The latest round of rumors that Gomez and Bieber were through have been floating around online for a couple weeks. They picked up steam in the past 24 hours, when Bieber was spotted with 19-year-old Victoria's Secret model Barbara Palvin at a performance of "The Lion King" on Broadway.

Bieber also performed at the taping of the annual "Victoria's Secret Fashion Show" special on Wednesday (Nov. 7).

General Topic / "Naked marriage" challenges traditions
November 11, 2012, 08:05:13 PM
Instead of renting a restaurant for an expensive wedding banquet, 26-year-olds Wang Shaowei and Zhang Xin tied the knot at a cost of nine yuan (US$1.40) spent on a marriage certificate.

The couple, who just recently entered the work force, forwent nearly all the traditional prerequisites of a Chinese wedding: owning an apartment and a car, buying wedding rings and holding a pricy ceremony at a posh hotel.

"We had a big dinner in our two-bedroom rented apartment to celebrate the start of our married life, and nothing else," said Wang, who lives with his wife in Shijiazhuang, capital of Hebei Province.

In recent years, an increasing number of Chinese young people have chosen a "naked marriage."

The term, coined in 2008 by Chinese bloggers, has drawn intense discussion since a popular TV series dubbed "Naked Marriage Era" brought the subject into the public spotlight and struck a chord with young Chinese, especially those born in the 1980s.

The term refers to a couple who get hitched before acquiring a house and car and who spend little on their wedding ceremony. Some do so due in an effort to declare their independence, while others simply have no choice.

"Naked marriage" marks a sharp department from China's established marriage customs, which encourage parents to help lay the material foundation for their children's marriage by helping them secure a house and car.

According to a poll conducted by the social investigation center of the China Youth Daily prior to this year's Chinese Valentine's Day, Qixi Festival that fell on Saturday, nearly 48 percent of 3,214 respondents said they supported the idea of "naked marriages," while about 23 percent opposed it.

The vote also showed that about 55 percent of the respondents viewed courage as essential when engaging in a "naked marriage" and 43 percent of them agreed that married life of the couple who had a "naked marriage" would be much tougher than their peers with better financial status.

Lifestyle, Culture and Arts / Singles Day
November 11, 2012, 07:56:38 PM
Singles Day, One's Day or Guang Gun Jie (Chinese pinyin: guāng gùn jié; Wadeâ€"Giles: kuang kun chieh; literally "bare sticks holiday") is a Chinese pop culture holiday on November 11 for people who are living the single life.

University culture
Singles' Day was initially celebrated at various universities in Nanjing during the 1990s, and originated from Nanjing University in 1993. It got the name Singles Day because the date consists of four "ones". These college students have since graduated, and carried the university tradition into society. The Singles Day has been largely popularized in the internet era and is now a special day for all fashionable youths.

The main way to celebrate Singles' Day is to have dinner with your single friends, but it's important that each person pay their own way to show their independence. Some send short messages or e-mails to their single friends to deliver their best wishes. People also hold 'blind date' parties in an attempt to bid goodbye to their single lives. Not every single is happy on this day. They may tease themselves for being still single as a university student. Some prefer to watch movies in a theatre. Some schools of a university would put forward a special program to gather singles together for celebration. In recent years, there has been more social attention to this holiday. For example, Taobaoshangcheng gives a up to 70% discount on this day. There are many activities on the Internet to help singles find a mate.

2011 marked the "Singles Day of the Century" (shiji guanggunjie), this date having six "ones" rather than four, an excuse to take celebrations to a higher notch[1]. Shopping promotions were highlighted throughout China and activities were widespread. Although this date comes to celebrate singlehood, the desire to find a spouse or mate is also expressed by young Chinese on this date, and other love-related issues are discussed by the Chinese media.

Celebration
For breakfast on Singles' Day, singles often eat four Youtiao (deep-fried dough sticks) representing the four "ones" in "11.11" and one Baozi (steamed stuffed bun) representing the middle dot.

Some singles also choose to say goodbye to their single lives on this day: many attend 'blind date' parties and many people choose to marry on this day. In 2011, higher numbers in marital celebrations occurred in Hong Kong and Beijing on November 11 than the average daily amount.[2] In addition to meaning 'single,' the four 'ones' of the date can also mean 'only one' as in 'the only one for me.' Some people will use this date and this meaning to tell their special someone that they are the only 'one' in their heart.

A heartless kindergarten teacher has been detained after posting pictures of herself abusing 4-year-olds, including lifting a boy by his ears, throwing another into a trash bin and taping a child's mouth.

Yan Yanhong, 20, of Wenzhou, Zhejiang was named and shamed by furious netizens after the pictures went viral on Sina Weibo.

The boy lifted above the ground by his ears was crying out in pain while Yan was apparently smiling.

A picture of a toddler with his mouth taped shut was tagged with 'you deserve it'.

Yan Yanhong, an unlicensed kindergarten teacher, and one of her colleague who helped take the pictures were sacked immediately.

Yan has been held under criminal detention on charge of 'picking quarrels and provoking troubles'. And her colleague has be jailed for 7 days.

A female teacher in a kindergarten in north China's Shanxi Province has been detained by police after she smacked children, authorities said today.

Li Zhuqing, who slapped a five-year-old girl in the face and other children at the Sky Montessori Kindergarten in Yingze District of the capital Taiyuan, is under a 15-day administrative detention, said a spokesman with the district.

The kindergarten, with 43 children, was ordered to close down.

The girl's father called the police after he found his daughter had swollen eyes and bruises on October 15. According to the father, the girl was punished because she was slow at arithmetics.

A surveillance camera recorded the girl being hit repeatedly for more than ten minutes. The video of the abuse was released by local media.

Authorities in Taiyuan started a one-month inspection of all kindergartens yesterday, vowing to shut down those with serious problems.

I must have done something right,
to deserve you in my life.
I must have done something right along the way.

And even if the moon fell down tonight,
there'd be nothing to worry about at all,
because you make the whole world shine.
As long as you're here, everything will be alright.
