The new academic year is approaching again and many teachers are flocking to the country (Thailand) to find their chance of getting employed in their profession.

However, I heard about a certain kind of scam in October last year about a certain recruiter of teachers from the Philippines.

This might expose the Filipinos to another bad image again, but it might even be worse if more fellow, poor, Filipino teachers will be losing their hard-borrowed or loaned (not earned) money to such unscrupulous people. It took me months to think about this, and balance the situation, before I finally decided to inform Ajarn.

What this person allegedly did was to contact more that 20 teachers and required each one to pay 50,000 pesos (about 41,000 baht) for a guaranteed teaching job here in Thailand.

I'm not sure if this included the air fare or not, although I strongly suspect that it did not. Apartment rent along with food allowance were not also included. So these poor teachers had to bring additional money that will sustain them until they will be lucky enough to find their employers. If when, only God knows.

On arriving here, this recruiter started bringing this platoon of teachers to the different advertised teaching agencies and schools. Of course, each one had to undergo interviews along with other normal procedures that should be done when a teacher applies for a teaching position, which was contrary to what the recruiter promised.

It was supposed to be a GUARANTEED WAITING TEACHING JOB.

The recruiter also applied and had to undergo interview himself/herself (not sure if it’s a male or a female).

The group was just lucky enough to find a newly opened school needing more than twenty teachers, and so they were all hired.

Well at least, just for that semester. I just hope that these already got their job contract for the next academic year. Otherwise, you know what I mean.

I tried informing one of the TV stations in the Philippines about this but I still got no reply from them, nor any acknowledgment that they received the information.

To my Kababayans, please find ways to inform everyone back home about this scam, and if possible help in the arrest of this/these person/persons, to stop it from becoming an organized scam.

Once again, I want to express my gratitude and praises to AJARN for doing a great job.

MANILA, Philippines - An overseas Filipino workers group in the Middle East vowed to refuse sending money to the Philippines as part of its efforts to celebrate President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s birthday on Saturday, April 5.

In a statement, Migrante, an alliance of overseas Filipino workers’ organizations based in the Middle East, said that its gift to Mrs Arroyo is to make her birthday “Zero Remittance Day."

“Our not-so-precious gift for Mrs. Arroyo on her 61st birthday is our “Zero Remittance" day, April 5," John Leonard Monterona, Migrante Middle East regional coordinator, said in a statement.

According to Monterona, the initiative is part of the group’s “BABAY Gloria" (BAgong Bayani AYaw kay Gloria) civil disobedience campaign.

In the same statement, the group also said it wanted Mrs Arroyo, who turns 61 on April 5, “to have peace of mind" in the face of numerous controversies hounding her administration.

“Mrs Arroyo could hardly have a peaceful mind nowadays," Monterona said, referring to “numerous problems facing the country."

According to Monterona, these problems include soaring food prices, the rice shortage, surging oil costs, and exposes of alleged corruption cases involving her administration. Monterona added that the Arroyo administration has been perceived to have abandoned distressed overseas Filipino workers.

“After all she could have attain peace of mind only if she is ousted or resigned from office," Monterona said. - GMA News.TV

    Somebody

I want somebody to share
Share the rest of my life
Share my innermoust thoughts
Know my intimate details
Someone who'll stand by my side
And give me support
And in return
She'll get my support
She will listent to me
When I want to speak
About the world we live in
And life in general
Though my wievs may be wrong
They may even be perverted
She will hear me out
And won't easily be converted
To my way of thinking
In fact she'll offen disagree
But at the end of it all
She will understand me

I want somebody who cares
For me passionately
With every thought and with every breath
Someone who'll help me see things
In a different light
All the things I detest
I will almost like
I don't want to be tied
To anyone's strings
I'm carefully trying to steer dear
Of those things
But when I'm asleep
I want somebody
Who will put their arms around me
And kiss me tenderly
Though things like this
Make me sick
In a case like this
I'll get away with it.

Aguy aguy ug aguy, kanindot anang kantaha,Thanks for sharing dire nga thread Brown.Hay,lab as pa sa panumduman ang napan-us nang pagbati.Pero kung ako papili-on based from my experiences, maayo pag didto na lang ko sa akong ex.. ;D

QUEZON CITY, Philippines - Gerry Peñalosa of the Philippines beat challenger Ratanachai Sor Vorapin of Thailand to retain his World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight title on Sunday at the Invasion: Philippines vs The World boxing event at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City.

Peñalosa won after the referee stopped the fight with 29 seconds remaining in the eighth round. Peñalosa knocked down the Thai thrice, in the fifth, seventh, and earlier in the eighth before the referree stopped the fight.

It was in the fifth round that Peñalosa started punishing the Thai with a series of combinations that nearly knocked him down, at one point sending him down on his knees. Vorapin, however, managed to put his arms around Peñalosa's waist to break his fall.

The event featured four Filipinos, who won all their matches.

In the third bout, Rey "Boom-Boom" Bautista of the Philippines knocked out Genaro Camargo of Mexico in the second of a 12-round match to retain his World Boxing Organization (WBO) inter-continental super bantamweight title.

Bautista knocked down the Mexican twice in the first round and sent him down for the third and final time 57 seconds into the second round.

In the second bout, Ciso Morales of the Philippines also defeated Yoo-Shin Kim in a 12-round match, which the referee stopped in 2:24 of the fourth round, seeing that Yoo-Shin, face bloodied with a cut on the left eye, had taken enough punishment from the Filipino, who successfully retained his WBO oriental super bantamweight title.

In the first bout, A.J. "Bazooka" Banal of the Philippines defeated Caril Herrera of Uruguay in a referee-stopped fight in the fourth of a 12-round bout.

Herrera had to take a standing eight-count in the third round after being brought down to his knees by a series of face punches by Banal. The fight, ruled a technical knockout in favor of the Filipino, was stopped at 1:18 into the fourth round.

The first match was an eliminator for the the International Boxing Federation (IBF) move up to the No. 1 spot.

Among the spectators at the event were Sen. Ramon Revilla; Manny Pacquiao, the new World Boxing Council super featherweight champion, with wife Jinkee; Juan Manuel Marquez, the Mexican WBC former super featherweight champion whom Pacquiao just defeated; and Luisito Espinosa, former World Boxing Association bantamweight champion. - GMANews.TV

May Day: Yilmaz Bektas & Ruffa Gutierrez

On May 8, many were surprised that Ruffa Gutierrez and her Turkish husband Yilmaz Bektas decided to end their four-year marriage. It was in Ricky Lo's column in the Philippine Star that Ruffa first revealed their decision, citing "cultural differences" as the cause of their separation.

The couple met in France in 2000. She was covering the Cannes film fest. He was looking for a boat to buy. Three years later they were married twice: March 2003 in Manila and September in a Muslim ceremony in Istanbul.

"We had a Christian ceremony in the Philippines, and then we had our Muslim wedding in Acarkent. It was the imam that officiated. It was basically a blessing. It wasn't like a wedding for show. It was a blessing for us to be together," Ruffa recalled.

The next three years in Istanbul was a life blessed with two children, Lorin and Venice.

Ruffa returned to the country at the start of the year to host Philippine's Next Top Model. She narrated to PEP, "Ang dami kong tinanggihan na trabaho. But see, I'm living in Istanbul na nga but offers are coming. Sino pa ba ang hindi makakatanggi sa ganoon? Blessings na ang lumalapit sa 'yo, so Yilmaz said he will allow me to work for five years."

Then came the announcement. A feud erupted between the couple. Brickbats and harsh words were thrown at each other. Family members got hurt by in the exchange of accusations.

Weeks later the issue would tone down to give way for a possible reconciliation. Yilmaz suddenly arrived in Manila last August. The couple finally got together to quietly settle their differences.

But they still live oceans apart.

Court battle: Martin Jickain & Aiko Melendez

"Suko na ako."

These were the words that Aiko Melendez uttered to her close friends as she left her more than one year marriage with Martin Jickain. Aiko Melendez's publicist Ogie Diaz confirmed Aiko's decision in his morning radio talk show last September 13. Aiko cited Martin's alleged womanizing and partying habits as her reason for wanting to file an annulment.

Martin, on the other hand, belied those claims. "Hindi po totoong may bisyo ako. Hindi ako nagsusugal, hindi nambababae. Ni sigarilyo nga po ay hindi ako marunong. Droga? Hindi rin po, dahil may ini-endorse ako kaya hindi puwede." In a later interview, the commercial model accused his wife of habitual gambling.

Flashback. They met in September 2005. In October of 2005, Aiko refuted reports saying that Martin was just "an ardent suitor." By November, the couple announced that they were getting married on February 2006. Aiko was previously married to Jomari Yllana and they have 7-year-old son. Martin is a ramp model and was 2005 Mossimo Bikini Summit 1st runner-up.

Martin said he was certain from the beginning of his relationship with Aiko that they would end up marrying. "I just knew. It's destiny. There's magic between us," he said.

The two are currently locked in a court battle on their annulment and over the custody of their one-year-old daughter Marthena.

Long distance: Richard Gutierrez & Georgina Wilson

The couple are two of the most beautiful faces in the world of showbiz. Richard is the lead star of various fantaseryes on GMA-7 like Captain Barbell, Mulawin, Lupin, and now, Kamandag. Georgina is the niece of 1969 Miss Universe Gloria Diaz and a much sought-after model.

In an interview with PEP November of last year, Richard was happy with the way the relationship was going with the model. Asked about the secret to maintaining their relationship, Richard said, "Wala. We're just compatible and we understand each other."

Sweethearts for almost two years when both decided to go their separate ways in September. Georgina is busy studying in Australia while Richard leads a hectic pace shooting for his numerous tv shows and upcoming movies. Distance and time is the cause for their breakup.

Annabelle Rama wishes that her son and Georgina would eventually get together again in the future. But she also understands their situation:

"Ang relasyon naman kasi nila long distance. E, ang hirap naman ng long distance, di ba? Nagtatawagan sila. Minsan uwi siya [Georgina] after three months, after four months...mahirap naman talaga ‘yon, di ba? Kaya naiintindihan ko rin yung reason ni Richard, pero sana nga magkabalikan sila ni Georgina kasi gusto ko talaga si Georgina para sa kanya."

Failed trial: Dennis Padilla & Marjorie Barretto

After ten years of being together, Dennis and Marjorie made the decision to go on their separate ways. Their union had been having problems since last year. The couple decided to wait until after the elections this summer before announcing their decision.

They made their revelation to Ricky Lo in his column last May 25. It was called "trial separation". In that column Marjorie was asking for space from Dennis. Dennis, in a separate interview, blames his ‘bad temper' for their breakup.

But speculations arose that the cause for the separation was a third party. Marjorie, who had won as councilor in Caloocan City, was being linked to re-elected Mayor Recom Echiverri. Marjorie vehemently denied the rumor and said that it was all being propped up by her political opponents. Marjorie won as councilor in the second district of Caloocan, replacing Dennis, who had just finished his three terms as Councilor in the same district.

The "trial separation" didn't look like to be just a trial but the real thing as well. On June 11, Marjorie filed her annulment papers at the Quezon City Trial Court.

Dennis though is determined to win back his family as well as Marjorie by courting her once again.

On and off: Polo Ravales & Ara Mina

Theirs is an on-and-off relationship. They had already broken off before.

They were able to work things out after the initial breakup. They even said in November 2006 that their relationship was steady as ever. Though she admitted that they only see each other once a week because their schedule would not jibe. Later, the two had a "cooling off" to give space to each other to think about their relationship.

Speculation arose if the Polo would attend Ara's solo concert at Araneta. Everything looked well during the concert of Ara Mina last February 3, where Polo appeared as the special guest. They were supposed to talk to each other the day after but it did not push through because of Ara's exhaustion from the concert. They were able to meet on February 9, only to quarrel again.

Ara admitted that it was her lack of time for Polo that led to the breakup. It was Polo who asked for the split and and Ara found it hard to agree. The last time, it was Ara who broke off.

The two would later get to work together in GMA-7's Lupin. In a presscon for the television series, Ara expressed her feelings about getting back together again.

Out of tune: Christian Bautista & Rachelle Ann Go

The singing couple looked good and played beautiful music together. They were frequently paired up in shows and concerts. And this was how the two got together.

Rachelle said that Christian started courting her when they were in the U.S. for the shoot of their music video You and Me in February 2006. It took a while before Rachelle said "yes" to Christian. Both admitted that this was their first relationship.

Siguro kung kami talaga, mga ilang years pa siguro," Rachelle said in an interview with PEP last September.

But things were not meant to be for the two singers, who were likened to the singing tandem of Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez. On the morning of November 12, fans of Christian and Rachelle were shocked to see the news that they had decided to separate. The couple tried to resolve issues in their relationship but some were deemed unresolvable.

Christian and Rachelle Ann remain good friends.

Friendly split: Nyoy Volante & Nina

A strong musical force in the acoustic scene, Nina and Nyoy would be seen together in concerts and bar tours. Their closeness soon became a source of intrigue. Eventually, the two become a real-life couple on November 2005.

In an interview with a broadsheet Nyoy narrates, "I courted Nina long after her previous relationship ended. I even informed her former boyfriend [Jimmy Bondoc] about my intentions, as an act of courtesy. I then courted Nina but it took quite a while before we made a commitment with each other."

Nina only has sweet words for Nyoy, "When he was courting me, I felt his sincerity and loyalty even with little things, like when he replies to my text messages or remembers important dates like the first time we met. Actually, the sincerity of his feeling toward me and his loyalty are the reasons why I fell in love with him."

However, their relationship ended in the middle of the year. The two made a "mutual decision" to part ways. Initially, rumors were rife that a third party was involved.

"Sobrang busy siya, sobrang busy din ako. And siguro, kaya nga napagdesisyunan namin na mag-breakup na lang kesa masira pa ‘yung friendship namin," the Soul Siren explained.

But the two are still in harmony. Nyoy wrote "Someday" and the song was included in Nina's recent album.

Weak link. Joseph Bitangcol & Sandara Park

The Star Circle Quest Batchmates called it quits after almost two years of being together. Sandara was first linked to SCQ winner; Hero Angeles. The two had a loveteam tandem that thrilled the fans. Joseph was going out with another fellow SCQ contestant, Michelle Madrigal.

Joseph came into the picture hoping to have a reel and real-life tandem with Sandara, who had returned to Korea to pursue her collegiate studies. Joseph later came out on The Buzz admitting to his relationship with the Korean-born star. This shocked the Hero-Sandara fans. The "HeroSan" tandem eventually fizzled out.

"August 2004 kami naging mag-on. Ganun pa rin naman ang level ng relationship namin. Siguro mas nag-mature na kami pareho, hindi gaya dati na hindi kami marunong mag-handle ng mga problema. Kasi dati, maliit na bagay napapalaki tapos tumatagal 'yong away. E ngayon, 'pag may problema, napag-uusapan at naaayos na agad," Joseph said in a January interview with PEP.

The producers also tried the tandem of Sandara and Joseph when they starred in Star Cinema's D' Lucky Ones but it failed to capture those who followed the "HeroSan"tandem.

The relationship ended last July. Joseph said that there was no third party involved and cited their frequent quarreling as the problem. A couple weeks after, Sandara returned to Korea with her mother and sister, hoping to jumpstart a career in her home country..

Joseph said about their relationship, "Marami kaming masasayang ala-ala together, e. Pero siguro ang pinakamasaya, nung time na nagpunta kami sa Cebu, last Christmas yata 'yon. Dalawa lang kaming nagpunta doon, namasyal lang kami, tapos dinalaw namin 'yung mga friends namin na nakatira doon. Ang saya-saya talaga namin that time. Nakapag-bonding kami nang husto sa Cebu."

Fragile hearts. Erik Santos & Rufa Mae Quinto

Erik's kiss on Rufa Mae's lips started this relationship.

It was the birthday concert of Rufa Mae and Erik was the guest. Sparks flew and eyebrows were raised. But several weeks later, the two would sing sweet music together and officially became a couple.

However, many thought that the scene was a publicity stunt to cover up issues hounding them. "We talked about it pero hindi ganoon kami apektado," Erik said.

What kept them going was how Rufa Mae fought for Erik.

"Sobra niya ako ipaglaban," Erik told PEP. "You can feel naman na pure and genuine ang nararamdaman ng tao when you're talking to her, when you're with her, when you're with that person every day of your life. Nakikilala mo. Alam mo naman. Mararamdaman mo naman yun."

However in the middle of this year, the relationship was beginning to look fragile. Showbiz Central host and PEP blogger John Lapus accidentally mentioned in the show about a supposed date between Erik and Say Alonzo, a former Pinoy Big Brother housemate. An apparently shocked Rufa Mae, who was celebrating her birthday, couldn't utter a word.

A few weeks later, Rufa Mae was back on Showbiz Central and she was asked to comment on the "kisscandal" of John Estrada and Gretchen Barretto, which happened during Rufa Mae's birthday party in her home. To divert attention away from the scandal, Rufa Mae answered some issues involving herself. She admitted that her relationship with Erik Santos was on the rocks.

The two went through a "cooling-off" stage before their separation. Erik still hopes to reconcile with the sexy comedienne.

Gray November: Alfred Vargas & LJ Reyes

It was a question of ‘are they or aren't they?' throughout the year for this showbiz couple.

The two enjoyed their time with each other when they went to the U.S. last Christmas 2006. But around end of January, Alfred and LJ had a cooling off to ease the pressure of their relationship. Both of them hardly had time for each other. LJ was busy attending studies and showbiz commitments; Alfred had tv shootings.

Alfred and LJ patched things up. They would be seen going together on occasions and on movie dates. They even celebrated their anniversary last August.

By November, Alfred hinted problems in their relationship. A month later, Alfred and LJ announced their separation.

The list goes on. Other showbiz personalities who saw their relationship end included Michelle Madrigal & Victor Neri, Nikki Gil & Gab Valenciano, John Prats & Miakka Lim, Ailyn Luna & Ryan Yllana, Alwyn Uytingco & Jill Yulo, Iwa Moto & Yexel Sebastian, Joross Gamboa & non-showbiz girlfriend. - Philippine Entertainment Portal

MANILA, Philippines - Church workers on Saturday urged President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to turn to reality the promises she made during Friday's food summit at Clark Freeport in Pampanga.

Soldiers watch as a young boy clutches repacked rice which his parents bought from an NFA truck in Quezon City Friday.

Eden Orlino, a nun and a director for social action of the Diocese of Bayombong, said the shortage in rice supply is a crisis "waiting to happen."

"We have a lot of industries upcoming but I think this (agriculture industry) needs real focus ... We are hopeful that the government will put it on the stage," she said in a statement posted Saturday on the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines Web site, www.cbcpnews.com.

Orlino, one of the participants in the summit, said the increase in the prices of rice should serve a "wake-up call" for everyone.

CBCP President Archbishop Angel Lagdameo earlier said the looming crisis was a result of the government's preference to address shortage in food supply, not through domestic production, but through importation.

"Rice importation is a response to a rice crisis. But there must be limit to importations. It should not be the permanent arrangement. The lesser the imports the better," Lagdameo said.

During her speech at the food summit, Mrs Arroyo outlined several measures to address the looming crisis contained in the P43.7-billion six-point assistance package to cluster the government's food production drive, dubbed FIELDS.

She also came up with measures, such as the appointment of a new deputy ombudsman for agriculture, which she said would ensure that the program would not be plagued by corruption.

"F is for fertilizer. I is for irrigation and infrastructure. E is for extension and education. L is for loans and insurance. D is for dryers and other post-harvest facilities. S is for seeds," she said.

"In all these programs, we must be transparent. We will work to fix the corruption that still plagues our nation, including in the agri-business sector. We especially prohibit officials from dealing with fertilizer brokers and agents. They can only deal with official distributors in the regions and provinces," she added.

In creating a deputy ombudsman for agriculture, Mrs Arroyo cited Republic Act 6670 allowing her to appoint additional deputy ombudsmen.

In 1990, such a deputy was appointed for the military, she said.

Mrs Arroyo said other measures were done earlier to address the looming crisis, such as having the Department of Agriculture, National Food Authority and National Bureau of Investigation strictly monitor rice deliveries and investigate cases of hoarding, price manipulation and other illegal activities.

"We are holding officials accountable that have found to be corrupt and conniving with unscrupulous traders; we are letting the chips fall where they may as investigations are concluded and friend and foe alike and brought to account for their actions," she said. - GMANews.TV   ArticlesMedia Links

With a string of hit singles and a "champion" title to his name, Jerome Sala's "Gulong ng Palad" has really turned, making him one of the most sought-after male balladeers in the country.

Almost a year after he was named the Grand Champion of the first season of the "Search for A Star in a Million," this crooner from Bohol admits that he leads a better life at present, but makes it a point to always bear the lessons of his humble beginnings.

This is evident in the heartfelt performances that Jerome dishes out on special shows and regular spots on Sunday musical program "ASAP." "Whatever things I had to bear in the past, it made me a better person, performer," he says. "I sing from my heart, which was hurt many times over."

At such an early age, Jerome was already destined to be a singer. In fact, with the song "One in a Million You," he has managed to go to school for free. Jerome promises to continue singing the songs of his heart and follow in the footsteps of his idols, Concert King Martin Nievera and Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano.

With his self-titled debut album, Jerome Sala, at such an early stage in his career, has epitomized what a "Pinoy Crooner" ought to be- sensitive, passionate, warm, charming and honest.

Bohol is on a roll! The chocolate hills are alive with the soulful and funky ballads of Boholano crooner Jerome Sala, wildcard finalist and the latest addition to the Search For The Star In A Million’s list of hits.

The room was brimming with deafening silence and gut-wrenching suspense as ace talent manager to the stars, Wyngard Tracy uttered in his most seriously intimidating stance and matter-of-factly demeanor what is probably the most memorable line of the day: “Kanina pa kita hinahanapan ng butas, pero wala akong makita dahil magaling

The Searcher was obviously impressed by the young Boholano. His amazing performance and undeniable talent shone through and caught the very discriminating bespectacled eyes of the respected Searcher who is starting to be known for his signature shades. Jerome scored a hit with his truly spectacular “One In A Million” performance, bagging him a ticket out of the wildcard and into a sure spot in the bigger and grander Champions’ League of Twelve.

From wildcard to winner, this native Boholano’s wild ride started at the tender age of five, when his father imposed that he sing to prove the family’s singing genes are safely passed on to him from his grandfather. Undoubtedly, his father was right. At age five, Jerome had proven his father’s theory and won the very first of his singing championships. Before long, Jerome found himself joining and winning baranggay, fiesta, and municipal singing contests, even traveling in small island boats to join competitions in neighboring islands--and not the near-tsunami waves and stormy skies could stop him from reaching his destination. He of all knows life is made of wild rides and hard times. His is a life of hardship and povertyâ€"of carrying hollow blocks and of enduring the scorching heat of the sun in the rice fields to make ends meet.

What is most amazing about this next Boholano hero since Cesar Montano is his ability to look life’s challenges in the eye and smile at it too. This, with his endearing quirkiness, unexpected hirits, probinsyano charm and his suave singing prowess make him quite a find. Indeed, with life in Bohol like a box called the Chocolate hills, you never really know what you’re gonna get.

Hence, the beginning of Jerome Sala’s second lease on stardom.
