As the Boholano population is soaring at higher rate annually, the dream of a rice-sufficient Boholano table will soon be within reach.
Vice-Gov Julius Caesar Herrera has earmarked P70,000 as seed fund for propagation of Chinese hybrid rice to make the dream come true.
He told a crowd of farmers at barangay Mambool, Duero town last week, who attended a forum that the recent harvests that yielded between 7-8 tons per hectare of the Chinese rice varieties called LP0330 and LP 0331 were unprecedented.
Herrera was the guest speaker during the said forum attended by Mayor Manuel Tan and top guns of the Philippine-Sino Center for Agriculture Technology (PhilSCAT) and Department of Agriculture.
Because of this golden harvest, he said, he decided to allocate the said amount so that farmers here will not anymore depend on dole-outs but to stand on their own.
He expressed gratitude to PhilSCAT for the new seed varieties and farming techniques that are developed to increase farm production and maximize labor productivity thereby increasing their incomes.
