Philippine History / Amelia Romualdez

"Miss Leyte"
Amelia Romualdez
1927 Manila Carnival

Digitally Colorized by
Jonjon Diquiatco Valle
Kinulayang mga larawan ng nakaraan (KLN)
-------

1927 was the first and only time that a Miss Leyte was named to compete in the Manila Carnival search for Miss Philippines; the winner was Amelia Zialcita Romualdez, a cousin of Imelda Romualdez (Marcos). Her participation inspired municipalities to hold their own carnivals and elect their own royalties, even at a local level only.

One such town that held its own carnival festivities that same year was Dulag, a large and progressive coastal town of Leyte fronting the Leyte Gulf, just 36 kilometers from the provincial capital, Tacloban. Dulag was an important commercial hub in its heyday; ships from all over would dock at its port carrying merchants who traded their products for Philippine abaca, copra, tobacco, rice and wine with the natives. At one time, the shores ofDulag were lined with large warehouses filled with goods that were imported to foreign countries.

As a toast to its prosperity, the municipality organized its very own Dulag Carnival of 1927. Queen Teofila I and her retinue of princesses and escorts were elected to serve as the carnival royalties, as preserved in this rare photo. The details of the event as well as the background of the queen-elect have all but been lost to oblivion. But the 1927 Dulag Carnival must have been a grand and pompous event, complete with the Philippine-American trappings and trimmings of a royal coronation.

Ruined by the last World War, Dulag would rise again and earned the distinction as a "Liberation Town". Many veterans still claim that it was in Dulag that Gen. Douglas MacArthur first landed upon his promised return—and not in Palo, Leyte as historians believed.

San Miguel Corporation spreads holiday cheer with social projects

MANILA, Philippines - In a statement released on Christmas Day, Ramon S. Ang, the president and vice chairman of San Miguel Corporation (SMC), expressed his gratitude and commitment to the Filipino people, especially those who are facing difficulties amid the pandemic.

"Christmas is the season of giving, and for us at San Miguel, it's always about giving back to our country and fellow Filipinos. We continue to work on impactful projects all over the country to help address challenges like poverty, hunger, lack of access to education, infrastructure development, as well as inequality, even among our regions. This is our way of spreading the holiday spirit, by providing hope of a better tomorrow. May the season be filled with the joy of helping others. From our San Miguel family to yours, Merry Christmas!" Ang said.

Ang, who is also the president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Top Frontier Investment Holdings, Inc., the largest shareholder of SMC³, has been leading the company's various social initiatives, such as providing food assistance, medical equipment, testing kits, vaccines, and quarantine facilities to support the government's response to the COVID-19 crisis.

SMC has also been investing in infrastructure projects, such as the Skyway Stage 3, the MRT-7, the Bulacan International Airport, and the Pasig River Expressway, to create jobs, boost the economy, and improve the mobility and connectivity of the people.

Moreover, SMC has been implementing programs to promote environmental sustainability, such as the cleanup of the Tullahan-Tinajeros River System, the adoption of renewable energy sources, the reduction of plastic waste, and the protection of wildlife habitats.

Ang said that SMC's vision is to make a positive difference in the lives of Filipinos, not only during the holiday season, but all year round.

"We are not just a business, we are a partner in nation-building. We are here to serve the people, to uplift their well-being, and to contribute to the common good. CARLOS C. TINIO, JR., A Vision That Lives Forever

There are persons who leave a lasting imprint in our lives. In life but more so in death. Carlos C. Tinio Jr. died an untimely death at 63. It sent shockwaves to his family, friends, and the whole town of Anda, Bohol. He was a public figure in his hometown.

2006. I met Caloy in San Diego when he accompanied his oldest son, Arjhun, who participated in the world junior golf championships. He came back the following year along with his daughter, Siri, who played at the girls division in the golf championships.

Yes, it was golf that we chanced to know each other and it was golf that we last communicated. When I moved back to the Philippines in 2010, we reconnected and kept playing the game. Caloy always paid for the green fees. It was then that I knew him more deeply. His visions and dreams, his family, his business, and of course, his golfing activities at Eagle Ridge Country Club in Cavite where he is a member.

Caloy came from a large family in Virgen, Anda, Bohol. While studying in Tagbilaran in 1984, Nitang, the strongest typhoon yet to hit Bohol, struck the province. Coming home when the disaster subsided, he found almost all of their coconut trees on the ground. This practically wiped out the family means of livelihood and threatened schooling. Beating all odds, he managed to become an electrical engineer, quite feat for a boy growing in a small barangay in Anda.

Caloy was in Saudi Arabia working as an engineer when the US invaded Iraq in 2003. He left the war-torn Middle East, settled in Manila, and along with his brother, established an electrical company catering to Japanese clients. Their business boomed.

While he was doing well in Manila businesswise, Caloy didn't forget his roots. Foremost in his mind was to help his hometown get out of poverty and corrupt leaders. Upon knowing that his barangay folks were asked by politicians to sell their beach lands with a promise to turn them into a golf course, Caloy opposed the idea and became the sore thumb in the local leaders' quest for more money into their pockets. Who else in Anda would know better about golf business except the golfer himself. But his townmates never listened. They went on selling their real properties for a price so cheap that in those days, was tantamount to giving the land for peanuts. True enough, the politicians were eased out of power and the golf development company folded. By that time, the residents already signed the deeds of sale and could no longer enter their houses since unknowingly, they did not figure out that the lands where their houses were built were included in the contract. Who did they turn to? To Carlos C. Tinio, Jr.. Caloy could only shrug his shoulders and said, "It's too late now."

But the sight and thought of his people wallowing in poverty never left Caloy's mind. To help his hometown, he entered local politics. Whether it was a good or a bad decision was only clear later on in his life. He ran for mayor three times and lost three times.

We were in the fairways enjoying a round of golf that we chanced to talk seriously about his political career. I asked him to rethink his involvement in politics. I pointed out that: 1. His views on leadership cannot be understood by ordinary Andahanons. He was now a city boy. Anda voters are largely provincianos. 2. His kids were still in school and would be adversely affected by his work with the town. 3. He cannot win an election if his campaign manager is a priest because priests do not cheat nor kill. Late Fr. Victor Rubia was his manager. 4. It will affect his business and drain his finances. "So give that a thought," I said.

He probably listened. The next elections, he refused to run as mayor. But the mayoral candidate and his leaders wanted him to run as kagawad to raise their chances of winning. He refused but they still included him in the kagawad list anyway. He won but his mayor lost. He never ran again after that.

The slowdown in economy affected Caloy's business. No more Japanese and foreign investors pitched tent in Manila. His clients slowed down. Eventually, Caloy was forced to close his office. He went back to Anda where his wife was the rural health doctor. There he got involved again in politics but not as a candidate but as campaign manager. "Money and goons if you want to win," I said. Well, his candidate won to the surprise of Andahanons. He was appointed as LGU engineering consultant.

After a few months, he sent me pictures of water pumps, water tanks, water pressure boosters, and videos of the formal opening of the water faucets. It was state of the art. It put my own town's new water system to shame since it looked like a system built by high achool students rather than hydro-engineers. I messaged Caloy thus, "You see, you can do much for the community without the trappings of power and glory. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely." "Tama ka, Padre,"  (You are right, Father.), he replied. Before this, Anda could not improve its water system despite a 29M peso loan which the town is still paying today.

I sent Caloy a selfie from Pradera Verde Golf Club. I was with our golf buddy, Arnel Agustin, golfing at the Bong Pineda's Cup. When he asked where is Pradera Verde, I sent him the photo of the golfer's ticket showing a Toyota land cruiser and Ford raptor as grand prizes in Lubao, Pampanga's annual golf classic. His message was, "Bring home the bacon, Padre." Two hours later, I got a call from his wife, Dra. Rosario Tinio, tearfully informing me that Caloy passed away. I was sad not because I came home without a trophy and expensive vehicles but because I lost a dear friend. More important than any trophy, more expensive than any vehicle.

With Caloy's demise last Dec. 20, 2023, Anda lost one of its rare gem. But not completely. As I told one of his faithful supporters, "Caloy's voice rings louder in death than in life." Carlos Tinio, Jr. is not only a man with a finite body that turns to dust in time. He is a vision that lives forever.

May he rest in peace. #

How To Tips / Disruptive Technologies
December 16, 2023, 08:55:43 PM
10 Lessons from "The Innovator's Dilemma: When New Technologies Cause Great Firms to Fail"

1. Disruptive Technologies: New technologies often emerge as simple and inferior solutions, but eventually evolve to become dominant forces in the market. Established firms often fail to recognize these disruptive threats due to their focus on optimizing existing technologies.

2. Innovator's Dilemma: Successful firms become trapped in the "innovator's dilemma," where their success with existing technologies hinders their ability to adopt and adapt to disruptive innovations.

3. Customer Segmentation: Disruptive technologies often appeal to niche markets or new customers ignored by established firms. This allows them to gain a foothold and eventually disrupt the entire market.

4. Value Networks: Established firms are often locked into existing value networks, making it difficult to adapt to new technologies that require different partnerships and suppliers.

5. Strategic Marketing: Disruptive technologies often require a different marketing approach than established technologies. Focusing on performance improvement and cost reduction may not be effective for disruptive innovations.

6. Low-End Disruption: Disruptive technologies often attack the low-end of the market with simple, affordable solutions. This can eventually lead to mainstream adoption and threaten established firms.

7. S-Curves: The performance of technologies follows an S-curve, with an initial period of slow growth, followed by rapid growth, and eventually reaching a plateau. Disruptive technologies often emerge during the slow growth phase of established technologies.

8. Organizational Culture: Established firms often have a culture that favors incremental innovation and risk aversion. This can make it difficult to adapt to disruptive technologies that require radical innovation and experimentation.

9. Dynamic Capabilities: The ability to sense, seize, and transform opportunities is crucial for success in the face of disruptive innovation. Established firms need to develop these dynamic capabilities to adapt to changing market conditions.

10. Continuous Innovation: Established firms cannot afford to rest on their laurels. They need to continuously innovate and be prepared to adapt to new technologies and changing customer needs to avoid falling victim to the innovator's dilemma.

How To Tips / Lessons from The Peter Principle
December 16, 2023, 08:40:54 PM
"The Peter Principle" by Laurence J. Peter is a classic exploration of organizational behavior and management. The book humorously delves into the concept that in hierarchical organizations, individuals tend to be promoted to their level of incompetence. The central premise is that employees are promoted based on their current performance rather than their ability to handle the responsibilities of the new role. As a result, individuals may eventually reach a position where they're no longer competent, leading to inefficiencies within organizations. The book offers insights into the dynamics of hierarchies, promotions, and organizational structures, provoking thought and discussion about effective management practices.

Lessons from "The Peter Principle" by Laurence J. Peter:

1. Hierarchical Inefficiency: The book's core principle states that in hierarchies, people tend to rise to their level of incompetence, not necessarily their highest level of competence. This highlights the potential inefficiency and suboptimal placement of individuals within organizations due to promotions based on past performance rather than future suitability.

2. Misconceptions of Meritocracy:  "The Peter Principle" challenges the idea of meritocracy in hierarchies, questioning whether promotions truly reflect increased competence or simply represent climbing the ladder until reaching the rung where one's abilities plateau.

3. Identifying the "Peter Plateau": The book explores the concept of the "Peter Plateau," where individuals reach a point of incompetence in their new role but remain stuck due to the lack of higher positions for them to climb. This can lead to stagnation and frustration for both the individual and the organization.

4. Rethinking Promotion Practices: Peter's work suggests the need for reevaluating how promotions are awarded, emphasizing potential and suitability for future roles rather than relying solely on past successes.

5. Solutions Beyond Hierarchy: The book encourages exploring alternative organizational structures beyond rigid hierarchies, where individuals can contribute meaningfully without getting stuck in the promotion trap.

6. Satirical Perspective: While offering serious observations about organizational behavior, "The Peter Principle" uses satire and humor to highlight its points, making it an engaging and thought-provoking read.

7. Applicability Beyond Work: The book's insights on incompetence and career advancement can be applied not just to workplaces but also to other contexts where hierarchies and promotions exist.

8. Potential for Misinterpretation: It's important to remember that "The Peter Principle" is a satirical observation, not a universal truth. Not everyone in a hierarchy reaches incompetence, and promotions can still be based on merit.

9. Legacy of Influence:  The book has had a lasting impact on organizational psychology and management theory, sparking discussions about promotion practices and organizational structures.

10. Ongoing Relevance: Although written in the 1960s, "The Peter Principle" remains relevant in today's workplaces, offering valuable insights into the potential pitfalls of hierarchies and the importance of considering individual capabilities when making promotions.

Facts and Trivia / Public Speaking Tips
December 13, 2023, 03:04:21 PM
10 lessons from "The Art of Public Speaking" by Dale Carnegie:

1. Become interested in other people. The most important thing to remember when speaking to an audience is that you are not the most important person in the room. Your audience is, and you need to focus on their needs and interests.

2. Smile. Smiling makes you look confident and approachable, and it also helps to put your audience at ease.

3. Be enthusiastic. Enthusiasm is contagious, and it will make your audience more likely to be interested in what you have to say.

4. Speak clearly and slowly. Don't mumble or speak too quickly, or your audience will have trouble understanding you.

5. Use simple language. Avoid using jargon or technical terms that your audience may not understand.

6. Tell stories. Stories are a great way to engage your audience and make your points more memorable.

7. Ask questions. Asking questions is a great way to get your audience involved and to get feedback on your presentation.

8. Vary your tone of voice. Don't drone on in a monotone voice. Use different tones to emphasize different points and to keep your audience engaged.

9. Use gestures and facial expressions. Gestures and facial expressions can help to emphasize your points and to make your presentation more lively.

10. Practice, practice, practice. The more you practice, the more confident you will become, and the better your presentation will be.

These are just a few of the many lessons that can be learned from "The Art of Public Speaking." If you follow these tips, you will be well on your way to becoming a more confident and effective public speaker.

I hope you find these lessons helpful.

Family & Parenting / Rudyard Kipling Advice to His Son
December 13, 2023, 04:38:11 AM
If:  (A Father's Advice to His Son) by Rudyard Kipling
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the will which says to them: 'Hold on!'
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son! ~Rudyard Kipling

Facts and Trivia / Begich Towers in Whittier, Alaska
December 09, 2023, 05:09:12 AM
The town of Whittier, Alaska, is known for having nearly the entire population living in a single apartment building.

The building is called Begich Towers, a 14-story apartment complex that houses about 90% of the town's residents (total: 272). This has earned Whittier the nickname of a "town under one roof".

The building, originally constructed as an army barracks, now serves as a cozy condominium featuring a post office, general store, police station, laundromat, health clinic, mayor's office, and a heated indoor pool.

Whittier, Alaska is accessible only by air or through a single-lane tunnel that stretches over two miles through neighboring Maynard Mountain. The town's weather conditions can be harsh during winter, making the Begich Towers a convenient and practical living solution for the residents.

In addition to the Begich Towers, there is a second condo building in the town where the remaining residents live. The town's school and gym are located in a separate structure but are connected to the Begich Towers by a tunnel, allowing for easy access during the winter months.

How To Tips / 10 Lessons from Baby Steps Millionaires
December 08, 2023, 07:16:14 PM
10 Lessons from Baby Steps Millionaires by Dave Ramsey:

1. Millionaires are made, not born: Forget the lottery and inheritance fantasies. The average millionaire built their wealth through consistent, deliberate choices. You can too, regardless of your income or background.

2. Baby steps lead to giant leaps: Don't get overwhelmed by the big picture. Break down wealth-building into bite-sized, achievable steps. Celebrate each victory, and watch your momentum snowball.

3. Debt is the enemy, not your friend: High-interest debt is a wealth-sucking black hole. Attack it with a vengeance using the debt snowball, focusing on the smallest balances first. Freeing yourself from debt is the foundation for true financial freedom.

4. Emergency fund is your safety net: Life throws curveballs. Build a $1,000 emergency fund first. This buffer will prevent minor setbacks from derailing your progress and protect you from falling back into debt.

5. Budgeting is not a restriction, it's a roadmap: Ditch the restrictive mindset. A budget gives your money a purpose, aligning your spending with your goals. It's not about deprivation; it's about conscious, intentional allocation.

6. Live on less than you earn: This is the golden rule. Resist lifestyle inflation. Spend less than you make, and channel the surplus towards your goals. Remember, wealth is not about how much you make, but how much you keep.

7. Invest for the long term: Don't chase get-rich-quick schemes. Embrace the power of compound interest. Invest consistently in low-cost, diversified index funds, and let time work its magic.

8. Entrepreneurship is a wealth-building engine: Consider starting your own business. It's not for everyone, but it offers the potential for higher returns and control over your income.

9. Give generously: True wealth extends beyond material possessions. Develop a giving mindset. Donate to causes you care about and experience the joy of enriching others' lives.

Poems and Poets / About Kahlil Gibran
December 07, 2023, 08:09:42 PM
He was called "filthy" because his skin was dark, unintelligible because he could barely speak English. When he arrived in this country, he was placed in a special class for immigrants. But, a few of his teachers saw something in the way he expressed himself, through his drawings, through his view of the world. He would soon master his new language.
His mother had made a difficult decision to take him, his two younger sisters and a half-brother to America, seeking a better life for their family. They settled in Boston's South End, at the time the second-largest Syrian-Lebanese-American community. The family would struggle and the young boy would lose one sister and his half-brother to tuberculosis. His mother would die of cancer.

He would write, "Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars."

He was born in poverty on January 6, 1883 in what is now modern day Lebanon.

He believed in love, he believed in peace, and he believed in understanding.

His name was Kahlil Gibran, and he is primarily known for his book, "The Prophet." The book, published in 1923, would sell tens of millions of copies, making him the third best-selling poet of all time, behind Shakespeare and Laozi.

Published in 108 languages around the world, passages from "The Prophet" are quoted at weddings, in political speeches and at funerals, inspiring influential figures such as John F. Kennedy, Indira Gandhi, Elvis Presley, John Lennon, and David Bowie.

He was very outspoken, attacking hypocrisy and corruption. His books were burned in Beirut, and in America, he would receive death threats.

Gibran was the only member of his family to pursue scholastic education. His sisters were not allowed to enter school, primarily because of Middle Eastern traditions as well as financial difficulties. Gibran, however, was inspired by the strength of the women in his family, especially his mother. After one sister, his mother, and his half-brother died, his other sister, Mariana would support Gibran and herself by working at a dressmaker's shop.

Of his mother, he would write:

"The most beautiful word on the lips of mankind is the word 'Mother,' and the most beautiful call is the call of 'My mother.' It is a word full of hope and love, a sweet and kind word coming from the depths of the heart. The mother is everything – she is our consolation in sorrow, our hope in misery, and our strength in weakness. She is the source of love, mercy, sympathy, and forgiveness."

Gibran would later champion the cause of women's emancipation and education.

He believed that "Safeguarding the rights of others is the most noble and beautiful end of a human being."

In a poem to new immigrants, he would write, "I believe you can say to the founders of this great nation. 'Here I am. A youth. A young tree. Whose roots were plucked from the hills of Lebanon. Yet I am deeply rooted here. And I would be fruitful.'"

He would write in "The Prophet":

"Let there be spaces in your togetherness, And let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup. Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf. Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone, Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music. Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping. For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts. And stand together, yet not too near together: For the pillars of the temple stand apart, And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow."

●  THE PROPHET  ●
Do not live half a life
and do not die a half death
If you choose silence, then be silent
When you speak, do so until you are finished
If you accept, then express it bluntly
Do not mask it
If you refuse then be clear about it
for an ambiguous refusal is but a weak acceptance
Do not accept half a solution
Do not believe half truths
Do not dream half a dream
Do not fantasize about half hopes
Half the way will get you no where
You are a whole that exists to live a life
not half a life. ~Khalil Gibran

Facts and Trivia / About Brendon Grimshaw
December 07, 2023, 07:21:04 PM
"For 13 thousand US dollars, Englishman Brendon Grimshaw bought a tiny uninhabited island in the Seychelles and moved there. When Grimshaw was in his forties, he quit his job as a newspaper editor and started a new life.

By this time no human had set foot on the island for 50 years. As befits a real Robinson, Brendon found himself a companion from among the natives of Seychelles — René Lafortin. Together with Rene, Brendon began to equip his new home. While René came to the island only occasionally, Brendon lived on it for decades by himself, never leaving.

For 39 years, Grimshaw and Lafortin planted 16 thousand trees with their own hands and built almost 5 kilometers of tracks. In 2007, Rene Lafortin died, and Brendon was left all alone on the island.

At age 81 he attracted 2,000 new bird species to the island and introduced more than a hundred giant tortoises, where around the world (including the Seychelles) were already on the verge of extinction. Thanks to Grimshaw's efforts, the once deserted island now hosts two-thirds of the Seychelles' fauna. An abandoned piece of land has turned into a real paradise.

The prince of Saudi Arabia offered Brendon Grimshaw $50 million for the island, but he refused. "I don't want the island to become a favorite vacation spot for the rich. Better let it be a national park that everyone can enjoy."

And he achieved just that. In 2008 the island was declared a national park. At age 87 Brendon passed away and was buried there, on the island."

{Original author unknown. Edits by Laron as it needed editing. Photo of Grimshaw from a 2012 article about Grimshaw on the Daily Mail which I posted a link to in the comments along with a Wiki link about the island.}

History / Brain Power of Nikola Tesla
December 07, 2023, 05:29:31 PM
Nikola Tesla was a hyper-polyglot who could speak eight languages including: Serbian, English, Czech, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, and Latin. His memory was so remarkable it's said that even in his later years was able to recite by heart long mathematical formulas, and many of the world's most famous heroic poetry in their original languages. Some of his favorite poems to quote were Goethe's "Faust," Njegoš' "The Mountain Wreath," Dante's "Divine Comedy," Shakespeare's "Hamlet," Byron's "Childe Harold's Pilgrimage," and Pushkin's "Eugene Onegin." Tesla inherited his extraordinary memory from his father who Tesla once said could recite from memory many of the classical books from his time, and if they ever got destroyed could rewrite them in their original form. Tesla's father also helped him in his mental development by testing young Tesla in all sorts of exercises–as Tesla said, "guessing one another's thoughts, discovering the defects of some form or expression, repeating long sentences or performing mental calculations. These daily lessons were intended to strengthen memory and reason and especially to develop the critical sense, and were undoubtedly very beneficial."
He also claimed to have had a eidetic memory and thought process that caused much stress and trouble for him as a child, and often times his sisters had to help him distinguish images that were from his mind as opposed to things that were real. These images from his past would effectively block out real-life objects and interfere with Tesla's thought patterns. It would take several years and a strong power of will until Tesla was able to take control over his eidetic memory and thought processes which would ultimately help Tesla in forming a new invention methodology. Instead of rushing into newly formed ideas and expending physical energy and work through trial and error, Tesla would simply work through the possible outcomes in his own mind. He would initiate his design process, "build" his devices (making mental changes in construction along the way), theoretically test them so extensively that he'd even see actual wear in the apparatuses, improve them to perfection until ready for functional operation—all in his own mind. After this mental process, he would transpose his imaginary work into reality, and each device would inevitably emerge as an exact replication of what he had constructed in his head. This was the epitome of Nikola Tesla's engineering and inventive process.
Tesla would later self-analyze his cognitive thought process, and form a new notion of "thought recording." Based on the experiences throughout his life, he came to the conclusion that this remarkable way of processing thoughts and ideas was due to an unusual excitation on his retina which would cause the appearance of certain images projected before his normal vision. He believed that if a smart and innovative scientist , or inventor, could create a way to interfere with this process of the eye, then images could be projected from the minds of individuals onto a screen.

History / Mammoth Calf Preserved in Ice
December 07, 2023, 05:20:22 PM
In 2010, after the strong thaw in some areas of Siberia, Russia, a beautiful woolly mammoth calf weighing one ton was discovered. After 39,000 years in the ice, the calf was in perfect condition and still had its fur and muscle tissue intact. Thanks to the, Russian scientists, for the first time in history, we managed to take blood samples from a prehistoric animal.
According to research, the mammoth's death occurred while crossing the swamp, and due to the low temperatures and surrounding ice, the body remained in perfect condition.
Scientists and researchers from South Korea have suggested that thanks to the DNA samples obtained from Yuka's body, they could clone this extinct species in the future, giving life again to one of the great mammals in history.
Yuka was not the first mammoth found, in 1977 an excavator accidentally found the corpse of a small mammoth but unfortunately it was not well preserved.

History / Story About Sara Breedlove
December 07, 2023, 04:50:54 PM
She got married at the age of 14, and at the age of 20, she became a single mother. The first female millionaire who made a fortune with her 10 fingers.
She entered the Guinness Book of Records as the first woman to become a millionaire independently, without inherited money.
Sara Breedlove was born in 1867 in the south of the USA, in the state of Louisiana. Her parents, older brothers, and sister were slaves in the cotton fields. But Sara was born free. When she was 7 years old, she lost her parents. After her parents died, she moved in with her sister and her husband.
As a child, Sara worked as a housekeeper and did not have time for schooling. She later shared that she only had 3 months of formal education when she attended Sunday school.
She was only 14 when she married Moses McWilliams. She didn't do it because she loved him. The truth was that her sister's husband was a very violent man, and marriage was the only way for Sara to escape from that family. Four years later, Sarah and Moses had a daughter, Alleluia. Two years later, Sarah's husband dies. So Sara became a single mother and a widow at the age of twenty.
In 1888, Sara moved to St. Louis. Her brothers worked there as barbers. She started working in a laundromat and as a cook to pay for her daughter's education in a public school. Sara earned about $1.50 a day.
Like all the workers in the laundry, Sara got sick from chemicals: skin disease, lack of water, and heating in the house made Sara almost lose her hair. Thanks to her brothers, she learned the basics of hair care. A little later, Sara learns about the Eni Malon series of hair products and later meets Eni in person. He starts selling her products on the street.
Still working for Malon, Sara, now at the age of 37, moves to Denver with her daughter and begins to think about her own line of cosmetics for African-American women. After many experiments, she succeeds. He starts building his own business.
In 1906, Sara married Charles J. Walker and later became famous under his surname. Charles becomes her business partner: He does advertising and helps his wife with promotion.
Sara went door to door trying to sell her products, but also to teach women how to care for and style their hair.
In the same year, Sara decided to expand her business, so she and her husband traveled around South and East America. Her daughter had grown up and graduated from school, so she helped her mother with all the shipments from Denver.
Two years later, Sara moved to Pittsburgh. The family opens a beauty salon, but also a school that trains people to know everything about hair care so that they can apply Sara's products.
In 1910, Sara moved to Indianapolis, where she opened the headquarters of the company Madam C. J. Walker.
He builds a factory with a laboratory, a hair salon, and a beauty school where he teaches his sales agents. By 1917, Mrs. Walker employed about 20,000 women. Her agents earned from 5 to 15 dollars a day. Sara wanted African-American women to be financially independent, so she encouraged women to open their own businesses and taught them how to handle money.
The richer she became, the more time she spent on charities and giving. She gave lectures, fought against social injustice, and donated money to funds. Before she died, she donated more than 100,000 dollars to the poor and various organizations and social institutions.
In her will, she stated that 2/3 of her future profits should be given to charity.
She died at the age of 51. She was considered the richest African-American woman. When she died, her fortune was thought to be between $500,000 and $1 million. During her lifetime, Sara was not a millionaire, only 2 years after her death, her wealth increased, but while she was alive, she hoped that she would be. And not because she needed the money, but because she wanted to do more good deeds.

More mind-blowing facts about the world's most enigmatic structures:
1. They are aligned to true north with incredible accuracy. The Great Pyramid is just 3.4 arcminutes off perfect alignment, or precision of ~1 millimeter per meter of the length of its base.
2. The Great Pyramid was the tallest building in the world for around 3,800 years, until it was surpassed by Lincoln Cathedral in the 14th century.
3. They do not contain any hieroglyphs or paintings, nor were any burial treasures or mummies found within. By contrast, the tombs at the Valley of the Kings are decorated with intricate hieroglyphic texts and artworks from floor to ceiling.
4. They were once covered in gleaming white limestone casing stones (as pictured). Some researchers also think the capstones at the top were plated with precious metals.
5. ~2.3 million stone blocks make up the Great Pyramid, averaging 2.5 tons in weight. Quarrying these with little else than copper saws, chisels and pounding stones, then transporting and lifting them into place, is the most remarkable engineering feat ever accomplished.
6. The casing stones and inner chamber blocks of the Great Pyramid were fit together with such high precision that a knife's edge cannot fit between them.
7. The Great Pyramid weighs nearly 6 million tons in total. Today, the only structures exceeding this are the Great Wall of China and the Three Gorges Dam.
8. When Napoleon visited the Great Pyramid in the late 18th century, he (correctly) calculated that it contained enough material for a 10-foot high wall around the entire perimeter of mainland France.
9. Of the thousands of hieroglyphs found across Egypt, none of them mention how the pyramids were built or how the Egyptians cut stone. In fact, there are very few Ancient Egyptian texts found which mention the pyramids at all.

The Old English Period or the Anglo-Saxon Period refers to the literature produced from the invasion of Celtic England by Germanic tribes in the first half of the fifth century to the conquest of England in 1066 by William the Conqueror.
During the Old English Period, written literature began to develop from oral tradition, and in the eighth century poetry written in the vernacular Anglo-Saxon (also known as Old English) appeared. One of the most well-known eighth century Old English pieces of literature is Beowulf, a great Germanic epic poem. Two poets of the Old English Period who wrote on biblical and religious themes were Caedmon and Cynewulf.
The Middle English Period consists of the literature produced in the four and a half centuries between the Norman Conquest of 1066 and about 1500, when the standard literary language, derived from the dialect of the London area, became recognizable as "modern English."
Prior to the second half of the fourteenth century, vernacular literature consisted primarily of religious writings. The second half of the fourteenth century produced the first great age of secular literature. The most widely known of these writings are Geoffrey Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales, the anonymous Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and Thomas Malory's Morte d'Arthur.
While the English Renaissance began with the ascent of the House of Tudor to the English throne in 1485, the English Literary Renaissance began with English humanists such as Sir Thomas More and Sir Thomas Wyatt.
In addition, the English Literary Renaissance consists of four subsets: The Elizabethan Age, the Jacobean Age, the Caroline Age, and the Commonwealth Period (which is also known as the Puritan Interregnum).
The Elizabethan Age of English Literature coincides with the reign of Elizabeth I, 1558 - 1603. During this time, medieval tradition was blended with Renaissance optimism. Lyric poetry, prose, and drama were the major styles of literature that flowered during the Elizabethan Age. Some important writers of the Elizabethan Age include William Shakespeare, Christopher Marlowe, Edmund Spenser, Sir Walter Raleigh, and Ben Jonson.
The Jacobean Age of English Literature coincides with the reign of James I, 1603 - 1625. During this time the literature became sophisticated, sombre, and conscious of social abuse and rivalry. The Jacobean Age produced rich prose and drama as well as the King James translation of the Bible. Shakespeare and Jonson wrote during the Jacobean Age, as well as John Donne, Francis Bacon, and Thomas Middleton.
The Caroline Age of English Literature coincides with the reign of Charles I, 1625 - 1649. The writers of this age wrote with refinement and elegance. This era produced a circle of poets known as the "Cavalier Poets" and the dramatists of this age were the last to write in the Elizabethan tradition.
The Commonwealth Period, also known as the Puritan Interregnum, of English Literature includes the literature produced during the time of Puritan leader Oliver Cromwell. This period produced the political writings of John Milton, Thomas Hobbes' political treatise Leviathan, and the prose of Andrew Marvell. In September of 1642, the Puritans closed theatres on moral and religious grounds. For the next eighteen years the theatres remained closed, accounting for the lack of drama produced during this time period.
The Neoclassical Period of English literature (1660 - 1785) was much influenced by contemporary French literature, which was in the midst of its greatest age. The literature of this time is known for its use of philosophy, reason, skepticism, wit, and refinement. The Neoclassical Period also marks the first great age of English literary criticism.
Much like the English Literary Renaissance, the Neoclassical Period can be divided into three subsets: the Restoration, the Augustan Age, and the Age of Sensibility.
The Restoration, 1660 - 1700, is marked by the restoration of the monarchy and the triumph of reason and tolerance over religious and political passion. The Restoration produced an abundance of prose and poetry and the distinctive comedy of manners known as Restoration comedy. It was during the Restoration that John Milton published Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained.
Other major writers of the era include John Dryden, John Wilmot 2nd Earl of Rochester, and John Locke.
The English Augustan Age derives its name from the brilliant literary period of Vergil and Ovid under the Roman emperor Augustus (27 B.C. - A.D. 14). In English literature, the Augustan Age, 1700 - 1745, refers to literature with the predominant characteristics of refinement, clarity, elegance, and balance of judgment. Well-known writers of the Augustan Age include Jonathan Swift, Alexander Pope, and Daniel Defoe. A significant contribution of this time period included the release of the first English novels by Defoe, and the "novel of character," Pamela, by Samuel Richardson in 1740.
During the Age of Sensibility, literature reflected the worldview of Enlightenment and began to emphasize instinct and feeling, rather than judgment and restraint. A growing sympathy for the Middle Ages during the Age of Sensibility sparked an interest in medieval ballads and folk literature. Another name for this period is the Age of Johnson because the dominant authors of this period were Samuel Johnson and his literary and intellectual circle. This period also produced some of the greatest early novels of the English language, including Richardson's Clarissa (1748) and Henry Fielding's Tom Jones (1749).
The Romantic Period of English literature began in the late 18th century and lasted until approximately 1832. In general, Romantic literature can be characterized by its personal nature, its strong use of feeling, its abundant use of symbolism, and its exploration of nature and the supernatural. In addition, the writings of the Romantics were considered innovative based on their belief that literature should be spontaneous, imaginative, personal, and free. The Romantic Period produced a wealth of authors including Samuel Taylor Coleridge, William Wordsworth, Jane Austen, and Lord Byron.
It was during the Romantic Period that Gothic literature was born. Traits of Gothic literature are dark and gloomy settings and characters and situations that are fantastic, grotesque, wild, savage, mysterious, and often melodramatic. Two of the most famous Gothic novelists are Anne Radcliffe and Mary Shelley.
The Victorian Period of English literature began with the accession of Queen Victoria to the throne in 1837, and lasted until her death in 1901. Because the Victorian Period of English literature spans over six decades, the year 1870 is often used to divide the era into "early Victorian" and "late Victorian." In general, Victorian literature deals with the issues and problems of the day. Some contemporary issues that the Victorians dealt with include the social, economic, religious, and intellectual issues and problems surrounding the Industrial Revolution, growing class tensions, the early feminist movement, pressures toward political and social reform, and the impact of Charles Darwin's theory of evolution on philosophy and religion. Some of the most recognized authors of the Victorian era include Alfred Lord Tennyson, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, her husband Robert, Matthew Arnold, Charles Dickens, Charlotte Brontë, George Eliot, and Thomas Hardy.
Within the Victorian Period, two other literary movements, that of The Pre-Raphaelites (1848-1860) and the movement of Aestheticism and Decadence (1880-1900), gained prominence.
In 1848, a group of English artists, including Dante Gabriel Rossetti, formed the "Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood." It was the aim of this group to return painting to a style of truthfulness, simplicity, and religious devotion that had reigned prior to Raphael and the high Italian Renaissance. Rossetti and his literary circle, which included his sister Christina, incorporated these ideals into their literature, and the result was that of the literary Pre-Raphaelites.
The Aestheticism and Decadence movement of English literature grew out of the French movement of the same name. The authors of this movement encouraged experimentation and held the view that art is totally opposed "natural" norms of morality. This style of literature opposed the dominance of scientific thinking and defied the hostility of society to any art that was not useful or did not teach moral values. It was from the movement of Aestheticism and Decadence that the phrase art for art's sake emerged. A well-known author of the English Aestheticism and Decadence movement is Oscar Wilde.
The Edwardian Period is named for King Edward VII and spans the time from Queen Victoria's death (1901) to the beginning of World War I (1914). During this time, the British Empire was at its height and the wealthy lived lives of materialistic luxury. However, four fifths of the English population lived in squalor. The writings of the Edwardian Period reflect and comment on these social conditions. For example, writers such as George Bernard Shaw and H.G. Wells attacked social injustice and the selfishness of the upper classes. Other writers of the time include William Butler Yeats, Joseph Conrad, Rudyard Kipling, Henry James, and E.M. Forster.
The Georgian Period refers to the period of British Literature that is named for the reign of George V (1910-36). Many writers of the Edwardian Period continued to write during the Georgian Period. This era also produced a group of poets known as the Georgian poets. These writers, now regarded as minor poets, were published in four anthologies entitled Georgian Poetry, published by Edward Marsh between 1912 and 1922. Georgian poetry tends to focus on rural subject matter and is traditional in technique and form.
The Modern Period applies to British literature written since the beginning of World War I in 1914. The authors of the Modern Period have experimented with subject matter, form, and style and have produced achievements in all literary genres. Poets of the period include Yeats, T.S. Eliot, Dylan Thomas, and Seamus Heaney. Novelists include James Joyce, D.H. Lawrence, and Virginia Woolf. Dramatists include Noel Coward and Samuel Beckett

Facts and Trivia / Top 20 Uses of Apple Vinegar
December 05, 2023, 08:33:58 AM
20 USES FOR VINEGAR THAT MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW
1. Clear dirt off PCs and electronics
Your computer, printer, fax machine, and other home office gear will work better if you keep them clean and dust-free. Turn off your machine and wash with a mix of equal parts white vinegar and water. Wash with a cloth, not a spray bottle. You can use cotton swabs for tight spaces.
2. Get rid of smoke odor
If you've recently burned a steak or can't get rid of that cigarette smell, remove the lingering smoky odor by placing a shallow bowl about three-quarters full of white or cider vinegar in the room where the scent is strongest. To get the smell out of the air, moisten a cloth and wave it in the air.
3. Wipe away mildew
Use undiluted vinegar to wipe away heavy mildew stains. Mix it with water to clean light mildew stains. You can even use a vinegar mist in a spray bottle to prevent mildew stains from forming in rugs and carpets.
4. Clean chrome and stainless steel
To clean chrome and stainless steel fixtures around your home, apply a light misting of undiluted white vinegar from a recycled spray bottle. Buff with a soft cloth to bring out the brightness.
5. Unglue stickers, decals, and price tags
Don't you hate when you peel a sticker off of your new furniture or product and it's still sticky from the glue? Worry no more! Use full-strength white vinegar and gently scrape it off the product. Use an expired credit card to scrape. You can also uses this solution to get glue off of glass, plastic and walls.
6. Brighten up brickwork
Have dingy bricks around your fireplace? Use 1 cup of white vinegar mixed with 1 gallon of warm water to scrub the area. Your bricks will be looking shiny and nice!
7. Revitalize wood paneling
You can also use vinegar to shine up your dull wood paneling. Mix 1 pint warm water with 4 tablespoons white or apple cider vinegar and 2 tablespoons olive oil. Let the mixture soak for a few minutes and then polish.
8. Remove carpet stains
You can lift out many stains from your carpet with vinegar:
For light stains, mix 2 tablespoons salt with ½ cup white vinegar. Rub into the stain, let try and vacuum.
For tough, ground-in dirt and other stains, make a paste of 1 tablespoon vinegar with 1 tablespoon cornstarch, and rub it into the stain using a dry cloth. Let it set for two days, then vacuum.
9. Keep car windows frost-free
Vinegar is a great way to keep frost from forming on your car windows. Spray the outside of your windows with a mixture of 3 parts white vinegar to 1 part water.
10. Refresh your refrigerator
Have you ever smelled a refrigerator that hasn't been used for a long time? It's gross! You can freshen up your fridge with a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and water. You can use the solution to wash the interior and exterior of the fridge.
11. Steam-clean your microwave
Fill a bowl with 1 cup water and ¼ cup vinegar. Set the bowl in the microwave and cook on high for 5 minutes. Once the bowl cools down, use the solution to wipe off the walls of the microwave.
12. Disinfect cutting boards
Use full-strength white vinegar to clean wood cutting boards or butcher block countertops. This is a great alternative to dishwasher detergent because it can weaken surfaces and wood fiber. It disinfects against E.coli, salmonella and staphylococcus.
13. Clean china, crystal, and glassware
Have soap spots and dingy spots on your dishes after you put them in the dishwasher? Simply add a few ounces of vinegar to your dishwasher. It will prevent those hard-water stains from showing up.
14. Trap fruit flies
Did you bring home fruit flies from the market? You can make traps for them that can be used anywhere around your house by filling an old jar about halfway with apple cider vinegar. Punch a few holes in the lid, screw it back on, and you're good to go.
15. Tenderize and purify meats and seafood
Soaking a lean or inexpensive cut of red meat in a couple of cups of vinegar breaks down tough fibers to make it more tender. You can also use vinegar to tenderize seafood steaks. Let the meat or fish soak in full-strength vinegar overnight.
16. Control your dandruff
Can't wear those black shirts because your dandruff will show? Vinegar to the rescue! After shampooing, rinse your hair with a mixture of 2 cups apple cider vinegar and 2 cups cold water.
17. Ease sunburn and itching
Gently rub a sunburn or rash with cotton balls or a soft cloth soaked with white or cider vinegar. Try to apply this before the sunburn begins to sting. You can use this to help treat insect bites or rashes from poison ivy or poison oak.
18. Clean your eyeglasses
When it's more difficult to see with your glasses on than it is with them off, it's a clear indication that they're in need of a good cleaning. Applying a few drops of white vinegar to your glass lenses and wiping them with a soft cloth will easily remove dirt, sweat, and fingerprints, and leave them spotless. Don't use vinegar on plastic lenses, however
19. Stop reds from running
Unless you have a fondness for pink-tinted clothing, take one simple precaution to prevent red washable clothes from ruining your wash loads. Soak your new clothes in a few cups of undiluted white vinegar for 10-15 minutes before their first washing. You'll never have to worry about running colors again! This also works with other bright colors that you worry might run.
20. Speed germination of flower seed
You can get woody seeds, such as moonflower, passionflower, morning glory, and gourds, off to a healthier start by lightly rubbing them between a couple of sheets of fine sandpaper-and soaking them overnight in a solution of 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar and 1 pint warm water. Next morning, remove the seeds from the solution, rinse them off, and plant them.

Love Talk / Nobody is your Enemy
December 05, 2023, 05:35:39 AM
NOBODY IS YOUR ENEMY

*ANYONE THAT ANNOYS YOU* --is teaching you patience and calmness.

*ANYONE THAT ABANDONS YOU* --is teaching you how to stand up on your own feet.

*ANYBODY THAT OFFENDS YOU* --is teaching you forgiveness and compassion.

*ANYTHING THAT YOU HATE* --is teaching you, unconditional love.

*ANYTHING THAT YOU FEAR* --is teaching you the courage to overcome your fears.

*ANYTHING YOU CAN'T CONTROL* --is teaching you to let go.

*ANY "NO" YOU GET FROM HUMAN* --is teaching you to be independent.

*ANY PROBLEM YOU'RE FACING* --is teaching you how to get a solution to problems.

*ANY ATTACK YOU GET FROM PEOPLE* --is teaching you the best form of defence.

*ANYONE WHO LOOKS DOWN ON YOU* --is teaching you to look up to CREATOR ( *GOD* ).

Always look out for the lesson in every situation you face in every phase of life.
Be polite, calm, gentle and thankful to God because He will be with you to the end.
Life had taught me lessons. I do not see people at my cross road, because humans are not reliable.  I only see God as the author and finisher of my faith.

*R E F L E C T I O N S*
*When you live your life without anyone betraying, hurting, disappointing, disgracing or offending you, then it means you never did anything worthy.*

*The beauty of life, is that it comes with disappointments and betrayals, from people you least expect.*

*Unfortunately, some of us spend so much time crying over these betrayals and disappointments, and end up becoming victims of all circumstances.*

*Remember One Thing:* *Holding unto anger is like knocking your head on the wall and expecting the other person to feel the pain. You are only hurting yourself.*

*The fact is that the world is full of annoying, naughty, stupid and ungrateful people, and you will always come across them at one point or another in life. But the best thing to do, is to deal with them with wisdom and maturity.*

*You can't get everyone to love you, think like you or behave like you... never.*

*We must learn to tolerate and overlook certain things, we must try to bury the faults of others and move on with life.*

*Anger, Hatred and Intolerance have caused most of the world's problems and solved none.*

*Life is short, you don't know how much time you have left*

*I beseech you to take the pain and forgive that special person you hold grudges against, and iron out your grievances.*

*Muster the courage and apologise to that person you have offended.*

*Life is not measured by the amount of money, houses or companies you have, but by the positive impact you have made in the  lives of others.*

REMAIN BLESSED

Family & Parenting / Lessons from Lies About Money
December 04, 2023, 04:33:46 AM
10 lessons from The Lies About Money: Why You Need to Own the Portfolio of the Future by Ric Edelman:

1. The world of finance is full of deception and manipulation. Edelman argues that the financial industry is designed to keep people in debt and make it difficult for them to achieve financial freedom. He says that there are many myths and misconceptions about money that are perpetuated by the industry in order to keep people from making informed decisions about their finances.

2. You don't need to be a wealthy or sophisticated investor to make sound financial decisions. Edelman believes that everyone can learn to invest wisely and achieve their financial goals. He provides a roadmap for how to build a portfolio of low-cost, globally diversified index funds that can help you reach your retirement goals.

3. Actively managed funds are a waste of money. Edelman argues that actively managed funds are expensive and underperform index funds over the long term. He says that the vast majority of investors are better off investing in low-cost index funds instead of trying to pick winning stocks or mutual funds.

4. Market timing is impossible. Edelman says that it is impossible to consistently time the market and that trying to do so will only hurt your returns. He argues that the best way to invest is to buy and hold a diversified portfolio of index funds for the long term.

5. You don't need a financial advisor. Edelman believes that most people can manage their own investments if they are willing to educate themselves and make informed decisions. He provides a number of resources for people who want to learn more about investing.

6. Don't be afraid of debt. Edelman says that debt can be a useful tool when used responsibly. He argues that debt can be used to finance education, buy a home, or start a business. However, he also warns against using debt to finance depreciating assets, such as cars and vacations.

7. Save as much as you can. Edelman says that the most important thing you can do to reach your financial goals is to save as much money as you can. He recommends that people save at least 10% of their income, but ideally more.

8. Invest early and often. The earlier you start investing, the more time your money has to grow. Edelman recommends that people start investing as soon as they start earning a paycheck.

9. Don't panic when the market goes down. The stock market will go up and down in the short term. Edelman says that the important thing is to stay focused on your long-term goals and not panic when the market goes down.

10. Seek professional help if you need it. Edelman says that there are times when it may be helpful to seek professional financial advice. He recommends that people seek professional help if they are feeling overwhelmed or if they have a complex financial situation.

Myocarditis is a rare but serious condition that causes inflammation of the heart muscle, also known as the myocardium. The inflammation can affect the heart's ability to pump blood and cause abnormal heart rhythms. Myocarditis can be caused by various factors, such as infections, drugs, chemicals, or autoimmune diseases. Some people with myocarditis may not have any symptoms, while others may experience chest pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, or palpitations. Myocarditis can be diagnosed by physical examination, blood tests, electrocardiogram, chest X-ray, echocardiogram, magnetic resonance imaging, or biopsy. Treatment for myocarditis depends on the cause and severity of the condition, and may include medications, procedures, or surgeries. Myocarditis can sometimes lead to complications such as heart failure, heart attack, stroke, or sudden cardiac death. Therefore, it is important to seek medical attention if you have any symptoms of myocarditis or suspect you may have it.

10 lessons from The Geometry of Wealth: How to Shape a Life of Money and Meaning by Brian Portnoy:

1. True wealth lies in deep purpose.
The pursuit of external rewards, such as money and fame, often leads to disappointment and disillusionment. True happiness comes from finding meaning and purpose in life beyond oneself.

2. Cultivate deep wisdom.
Deep wisdom is the ability to see the world with clarity and compassion, and to make decisions based on sound judgment and ethical principles. It is not about acquiring knowledge, but about developing understanding and insight.

3. Detach from empty rewards.
Society often places a high value on external markers of success, such as wealth, status, and beauty. However, these rewards are often fleeting and unsatisfying. True fulfillment comes from within, and it is not dependent on external validation.

4. Embrace connection and service to others.
Humans are social creatures, and strong relationships are essential for our well-being. Find ways to connect with others on a deep level, and contribute your time and talents to make a positive impact on the world.

5. Develop a strong spiritual foundation.
Spirituality is not about religion, but about finding meaning and purpose in life beyond the material world. Connect with something larger than yourself, whether it be nature, a higher power, or a sense of interconnectedness with all living things.

6. Embrace lifelong learning.
The brain is constantly changing and adapting, and it is never too late to learn new things. Keep your mind active by engaging in stimulating activities, such as reading, taking classes, or learning new skills.

7. Cultivate resilience and adaptability.
Life is full of challenges and setbacks. Learn to bounce back from adversity, and find ways to adapt to changing circumstances.

8. Practice gratitude.
Take time to appreciate the good things in your life, both big and small.

Workplace & Productivity / The Organized Mind Summary
December 03, 2023, 04:59:14 PM
BOOK REVIEW
7 LESSONS FROM THE BOOK THE ORGANIZED MIND BY DANIEL LEVITIN:

Lesson 1: The Attentional System Is Limited
The human brain is designed to focus on one thing at a time. When we are constantly bombarded with information, it's difficult to focus on anything. This can lead to procrastination, stress, and poor decision-making. To improve your focus, it's important to create a distraction-free environment and practice mindfulness techniques.

Lesson 2: Constant Decision Making Tires The Brain
Making decisions is a mentally taxing process. When we are constantly making decisions, we put a lot of stress on our brains. This can lead to fatigue, irritability, and increased error rates. To reduce the amount of stress on our brains, we need to learn to make decisions more efficiently. For example, setting priorities, delegating tasks, and automating routine decisions can help reduce the number of decisions we need to make.

Lesson 3: The Trick to Organization
The key to organization is to find a system that works for you. There is no one-size-fits-all approach, so it's important to experiment with different methods until you find one that helps you manage your time and information effectively. Some popular organizational methods include creating a filing system, using a to-do list, and developing a personal organization style.

Lesson 4: The Power of To-do Lists
To-do lists are a simple yet powerful tool for organization. They can help you track your progress, stay on top of deadlines, and avoid forgetting important tasks. To create a to-do list that works for you, prioritize your tasks, set realistic deadlines, and break down large tasks into smaller, more manageable steps.

Lesson 5: Take Time to Rest and Refuel
Our brains, like our bodies, need time to rest and recharge. When we are constantly working and never taking breaks, we put a lot of stress on our brains. This can lead to burnout, poor performance, and even health problems. To avoid burnout, make sure to take breaks throughout the day to rest your mind and clear your head. You should also get enough sleep at night to allow your brain to fully recharge.

Lesson 6: The Power of Habits
Habits can be a powerful tool for organization. They can help us make good decisions and automate routine tasks. However, bad habits can be difficult to break, and they can sabotage our efforts to organize our lives. To improve your organization, focus on developing good habits and breaking bad ones. This can be a challenging process, but it is worth it in the long run.

Lesson 7: There Is No Such Thing as Perfect Organization
There is no one right way to organize your mind and your life. Everyone has their own unique style and preferences. The important thing is to find a system that works for you and to be consistent with it. Don't compare yourself to others or strive for perfection. Focus on making progress and improving your organizational skills over time.

7 powerful lessons from the book "Goodbye, Things: The New Japanese Minimalism" by Fumio Sasaki

1. True happiness comes from within, not from material possessions. Sasaki argues that the pursuit of material possessions often leads to stress, anxiety, and a sense of emptiness. True happiness, he suggests, comes from cultivating meaningful relationships, pursuing passions, and living in alignment with one's values.

2. Minimalism is not about deprivation; it's about intentionality. Minimalism is not about living an austere, stripped-down existence. It's about making conscious choices about what you bring into your life and what you leave behind. It's about curating a space that reflects your values and priorities.

3. Decluttering is a liberating experience. Letting go of excess belongings can be a deeply liberating experience. It can free up your physical space, mental energy, and emotional baggage. It can allow you to focus on what truly matters.

4. Less is more. Sasaki advocates for a minimalist approach to life, suggesting that having less paradoxically leads to more. With fewer possessions, you have more time, energy, and freedom to pursue your passions and experience life to the fullest.

5. Gratitude is essential. Cultivating a sense of gratitude for the things you do have is a powerful antidote to the materialistic mindset. By focusing on what you appreciate, you can reduce cravings for more and find contentment in the present moment.

6. Minimalism is a journey, not a destination. Sasaki emphasizes that minimalism is an ongoing process of refinement and simplification. It's not about achieving a perfect state of minimalism; it's about continuously evaluating your relationship with your possessions and making conscious choices that align with your values.

7. Minimalism is a personal journey. Minimalism is not a one-size-fits-all approach. The degree of minimalism you choose is a personal decision, based on your own values, preferences, and circumstances. What matters most is that you are intentional about your choices and creating a life that is authentic and fulfilling to you.

Anonymous Diary Blog / Lesson from Mousetrap Story
December 03, 2023, 02:40:54 PM
LESSON FOR MANY
A mouse, looking through a hole in the wall, sees the farmer and his wife open a package. He was terrified to see that it was a mousetrap. He ran to the patio to warn everyone.

-"There is a mousetrap at home!".
The chicken that was cackling and digging says: "excuse me, Mr. Mouse, I understand that it is a big problem for you, but it does not hurt me at all."

So, the rodent went to the lamb and he says the same thing: "Excuse me Mr. Mouse, but I don't think I can do more than ask for you in my prayers."
The mouse went to the cow and she said: "But am I in danger? I think not!" said the cow.
The mouse returned to the house, worried and dejected to face the farmer's mousetrap.

That night a great noise was heard like that of the mousetrap catching its victim, the woman ran to see what she had caught.
In the dark she did not see that the mousetrap caught the tail of a poisonous snake.
The speedy snake bit the woman, the farmer immediately took her to the hospital, she came back with a high fever.

The farmer to comfort her prepared a nutritious soup, grabbed the knife and went to find the main ingredient: the chicken; Since the woman did not get better, friends and neighbors went to visit them, the farmer killed the lamb to feed them, the woman did not get better and died.
And in the end, the husband sold the cow to the slaughterhouse to cover the funeral expenses.

The next time someone tells you about their problem and you think that it doesn't affect you because it's not yours and you don't pay attention to it, think twice, "he who doesn't live to serve, doesn't serve to live".

The world is not going badly because of the wickedness of the bad, but because of the apathy of the good.
So when someone needs you for their problems, give them your hand or give them a word of encouragement.
May you never lack empathy!
Remember it very well, EMPATHY.

15 lessons from the book "Why We Do What We Do: Understanding Self-Motivation" by Edward L. Deci and Richard Flaste:

1. Self-determination theory (SDT) is a theory of human motivation that emphasizes the importance of three basic psychological needs: competence, autonomy, and relatedness.

2. Competence refers to the need to feel effective and capable in our actions. When we feel competent, we are more likely to be motivated to engage in activities that challenge us and help us to grow.

3. Autonomy refers to the need to feel like we have control over our own lives and our own choices. When we feel autonomous, we are more likely to be motivated to pursue our own goals and interests.

4. Relatedness refers to the need to feel connected to others and to have a sense of belonging. When we feel related to others, we are more likely to be motivated to engage in activities that strengthen our relationships.

5. Rewards and punishments can have a negative impact on self-motivation. When we are motivated by rewards, we tend to focus on the outcome of our actions rather than the enjoyment of the activity itself. This can lead to a decline in intrinsic motivation, the motivation to do something because we enjoy it.

6. External motivators, such as rewards and punishments, can also undermine autonomy. When we feel like our actions are being controlled by external forces, we are less likely to be motivated to pursue them.

7. The best way to motivate people is to create environments that support their basic psychological needs. When people feel competent, autonomous, and related, they are more likely to be self-motivated and to engage in activities that are both enjoyable and meaningful.

8. Effective feedback is essential for supporting competence. Feedback should be specific, informative, and focused on the process rather than the person.

9. Providing opportunities for choice is essential for supporting autonomy. People should feel like they have some control over their own learning and their own lives.

10. Fostering a sense of belonging is essential for supporting relatedness. People should feel like they are valued and respected members of a community.

11. Self-determination theory has been applied to a wide range of settings, including schools, workplaces, and families. Research has shown that SDT-based interventions can lead to significant improvements in motivation, performance, and well-being.

12. Understanding self-motivation is essential for effective leadership and parenting. Leaders and parents who understand SDT can create environments that support the basic psychological needs of their followers and children, leading to increased motivation, engagement, and well-being.

13. Self-determination theory is a valuable framework for understanding human behavior and motivation. It provides a scientific basis for creating environments that promote self-motivation, engagement, and well-being.

14. Self-determination theory is an ongoing area of research. Scientists are continuing to explore the nuances of SDT and to develop new applications of the theory.

15. Self-determination theory has the potential to make a significant positive impact on the world. By understanding and applying SDT, we can create more motivating and fulfilling environments for everyone.

Inspiration & Hope / Strive to Improve, Not Complaint
November 28, 2023, 05:31:37 AM
By Nyambi
Sometimes go to the biggest mall and see how people are buying items and what cars they are driving, you will realise people have money. The fact that people are making it in the same economy you are complaining about means there is a way.  The only problem is that we always think of negative things and are too jealous.

Some of us have chased away our destiny helpers because of jealous and envy instead of learning from them. My question is when last  did you ask for advice from someone who is making it? When last did you read a book to improve your skill? How do you expect to improve when all you do is sit in your compound where people just ride bicycles and expect yourself to think beyond a bicycle?

Am personally scared of people who complain about everything. It's like they are moving around looking for someone to blame for where they are in their life. You will show them where to mine gold, they will complain about the price of a shovel.

Remember excuses are the blocks used to build houses of failures. Words are spirit and become flash so careful what you say to your self.  You don't need a better phone, a better country or better economy. You need a better mindset. You attract what you are. What the mind conceives and believes, it achieves.

Start thinking positive in any situation and you see your life change but remember you cannot change things around you without first changing things within you. Start dreaming big and thinking big.

SM Seaside City Cebu is the biggest mall outside of Metro Manila but the biggest mall constructed in a one set up phase of construction, "It's like building 4 malls (the size of SM Consolacion)  simultaneously.

Longest time mall construction by SM Prime in Ph. (5.5 years construction period 2011-2016). Started construction Jan 2011, opened Nov 2015, construction of the tower continued up to Aug 2016.

The mall's budget raised 3 times from P4.5B to P6B to P8.5B... contractor never anticipated the size of the mall that big the reason the budget was doubled.

SM spent P20million for the CUBE alone.
The CUBE is a tribute to the Cebuanos which represents strength and stability through the years. Interestingly, the "CUBE: is just an anagram for "CEBU"

Facts and Trivia / Equator and International Date Line
November 28, 2023, 04:42:32 AM
THE GREAT SEA STORY
The passenger steamer SS Warrimoo was quietly knifing its way through the waters of the mid-Pacific on its way from Vancouver to Australia. The navigator had just finished working out a star fix and brought Captain John DS. Phillips, the result. The Warrimoo's position was LAT 0º 31' N and LONG 179 30' W. The date was 31 December 1899.

"Know what this means?"

First Mate Payton broke in, "We're only a few miles from the intersection of the Equator and the International Date Line". Captain Phillips was prankish enough to take full advantage of the opportunity for achieving the navigational freak of a lifetime.

He called his navigators to the bridge to check & double check the ship's position. He changed course slightly so as to bear directly on his mark. Then he adjusted the engine speed. The calm weather & clear night worked in his favor. At mid-night the SS Warrimoo lay on the Equator at exactly the point where it crossed the International Date Line!

The consequences of this bizarre position were many:
The forward part (bow) of the ship was in the Southern Hemisphere & in the middle of summer.
The rear (stern) was in the Northern Hemisphere & in the middle of winter.
The date in the aft part of the ship was 31 December 1899.
In the bow (forward) part it was 1 January 1900.

This ship was therefore not only in:
Two different days,
Two different months,
Two different years,
Two different seasons
But in two different centuries - all at the same time!

Workplace & Productivity / 10 Lessons from Rules of Work
November 28, 2023, 03:51:04 AM
𝟏𝟎 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐎𝐟 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤

1. Walk Your Talk
Whenever you say something, live by it. Let people know you as a person who does what he says he will do. Always walk your talk.

2. Have A Plan
No matter whats going on, always have a plan in life. Plan for the year. Plan for the next 2 years. Plan for the next 5 years. And plan for the next 20 years. Have a plan.

3. Carve A Niche For Yourself
Create a unique identity with what you do. Make sure you are known for doing something unique. Don't get involved in what everyone is doing. Do something special.

4. Stay Focused On Your Long Term Goals
You can't afford to lose sight of your long-term goal for a second. For you there is no time off, no downtime, no loung-ing around time, no slipups, no mistakes, no accidental deviations from the script.

You have to become like a master criminal—they lead incredibly law-abiding lives because they can't risk breaking a tiny law in case it draws attention to themselves and the really big crimes get revealed—and watch what you say and what you do.

5. Learn From Others Mistakes
A clever man learns from his own mistakes, but a wise man learns from others' mistakes. Learn from the mistakes of others. Study how others made errors and commit to avoiding them.

6. Develop The Right Attitude
Be optimistic. Be positive. Share positivity with your colleagues, your friends and your acquaintance. The right attitude will attract you the right people to your life.

7. Cultivate a Smile
Smile when it's getting tough. Smile when it's hell. Smile no matter what.
And what sort of smile? Friendly, genuine—make sure it extends to your eyes—sincere, frank, honest, open, happy.

8. Be Cool
At work you should retain your cool at all times and, no matter what, never ever lose your dignity. If there's an office costume party, you can laugh and joke with everyone else, but let them do the dressing up. You remain apart from all that office nonsense.

9. Speak Well
You can keep your regional accent; that's not the problem. Look at why we speak—it is to communicate, to convey information—rather than how we speak. Speaking well means getting information across clearly and effectively. It doesn't matter how you speak, but it does matter that you speak clearly.

10. Know Yourself
Strengths and Weaknesses
If you are going to be a winner, you have to be incredibly objective about yourself. A lot of people can't do this; they can't turn the spotlight on themselves objectively enough or brightly enough to see themselves as others see them. And it's not just how others see us; it's also how we see ourselves. We all carry a mental image of ourselves—what we look like and sound like, what makes us tick; how we work—but how realistic is this image?

History / Re: Who were Chaldeans?
November 27, 2023, 06:58:58 AM
Where have the Chaldeans gone?
The Chaldeans of today's generation are mostly descendants of the ancient Chaldeans who lived in Mesopotamia, especially in the region of Chaldea near the Persian Gulf. They are also known as the Chaldees or the Kasdim in Hebrew and Aramaic. They have a long history of achievements in astronomy, astrology, mathematics, and politics. They established the Neo-Babylonian Empire under Nebuchadnezzar II, who conquered Jerusalem and exiled the Jews.

The Chaldeans are a Catholic ethno-religious community that hails from northern Iraq. They speak a version of Aramaic in their villages, but most Chaldeans in Iraq also know Arabic. They are a religious minority in Iraq, which is officially and predominantly a Muslim country. They have faced persecution and violence from extremist groups such as ISIS, who consider them infidels. Many Chaldeans have left Iraq, primarily for the United States, where they have formed a large and prosperous diaspora. They are mostly concentrated in Michigan, California, and Arizona. They are involved in various businesses, such as grocery stores, restaurants, and real estate. They also maintain their cultural and religious identity, and participate in various community and church activities.

The Chaldeans are proud of their heritage and their faith. They are also grateful for the opportunities and freedoms they have in their new home. They hope for peace and stability in their ancestral land, and for the preservation and promotion of their language and culture. You can read more about the Chaldeans at  [Wikipedia](^2^), [TimesMojo](^3^), or [GotQuestions.org](^4^).

History / Who were Chaldeans?
November 27, 2023, 06:56:27 AM
The Chaldeans were an ethnic group that lived in Mesopotamia in the first millennium BC. They migrated from an unknown origin to the south of Mesopotamia, where they settled in the region of Chaldea, near the Persian Gulf. They were associated with the city of Ur, where Abraham, the biblical patriarch, was born. They also became involved in the politics and wars of Babylonia, and eventually established the Neo-Babylonian Empire under Nebuchadnezzar II, who conquered Jerusalem and exiled the Jews. The Chaldeans were known for their achievements in astronomy, astrology, and mathematics. They were also called the Chaldees or the Kasdim in Hebrew and Aramaic. Health and Food / Background About E. coli
November 26, 2023, 03:20:59 PM
E. coli is a type of bacteria that normally lives in the intestines of humans and animals. Most strains of E. coli are harmless, but some can cause infections that may lead to diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, fever, and sometimes more serious complications.

Some of the common causes of E. coli infection are:

- Eating or drinking contaminated food or water, such as undercooked meat, raw milk, or untreated water.
- Coming into contact with feces from infected people or animals, such as through poor hygiene, handling animals, or swimming in polluted water.
- Traveling to areas where E. coli infection is more common, such as developing countries.

To prevent E. coli infection, you should:

- Cook meat thoroughly and avoid cross-contamination of raw and cooked foods.
- Drink pasteurized milk and boiled or bottled water.
- Wash your hands frequently, especially before eating or preparing food, after using the bathroom, or after touching animals.
- Avoid swallowing water when swimming or playing in lakes, ponds, or pools.
- Seek medical attention if you have symptoms of E. coli infection, especially if you have bloody diarrhea, severe abdominal pain, or signs of dehydration.

Love Talk / Resentment is a Prison
November 26, 2023, 02:40:51 PM
SUNDAY MEDIATION
Resentment is a prison. When you put someone in your jail cell of hatred, you're stuck guarding the door. If you're out to settle a score, you're never going to rest. How can you? For one thing, your enemy may never pay up. And as much as you think you deserve an apology, your debtor may not agree. The racist may never repent; the chauvinist may never change. As justified as you are in your quest for vengeance, you may never get a penny's worth of justice. And if you do, will it be enough?
You see, resentment is a prison. Jesus doesn't question the reality of your wounds, He just doubts whether resentment is going to heal them. What are you going to do? Are you going to spend your life guarding the jail cell, or are you going to trust your wounds to Jesus? MAX LUCADO

According to the book "Your Message Matters: How to Rise above the Noise and Get Paid for What You Know" by Jonathan Milligan¹, some of the lessons are:

- You have a unique message that can make a difference in the world. You need to believe in yourself and your message, and overcome the doubts and fears that hold you back.
- You need to define your audience, your niche, and your core message. You can use the **PASO** framework to do this: **P**assion, **A**bility, **S**olution, and **O**pportunity. You can also use the **Message Clarity Matrix** to find the intersection of your passion, ability, and market demand.
- You need to craft your message into a compelling and engaging content that can attract and serve your audience. You can use the **7 Content Creation Frameworks** to create different types of content, such as stories, how-to guides, case studies, interviews, etc.
- You need to market your message to the right people, at the right time, and in the right way. You can use the **7 Perpetual Income Streams** to monetize your message and create a sustainable business. You can also use the **7 Marketing Channels** to reach your audience and grow your platform.

These are some of the main lessons from the book. If you want to learn more, you can check out the book on [Goodreads](^1^) or [Amazon](^2^). You can also listen to the [audiobook](^4^) or visit the author's [website](https://jonathanmilligan.com/).

BOOK REVIEW

7 POWERFUL LESSONS FROM THE BOOK RULES OF THINKING,

This  A Personal Code To Think Yourself Smarter, Wiser And Happier by Richard Templar

1. Understand the nature of human thinking. The human mind is a powerful tool, but it is also prone to errors and biases. Understanding how our minds work can help us identify and avoid these errors, leading to more accurate and effective thinking.

2. Develop critical thinking skills. Critical thinking is the ability to analyze information objectively and make reasoned judgments. It is an essential skill for success in any field, as it allows us to evaluate arguments, identify flaws, and draw sound conclusions.

3. Be mindful of cognitive biases. Cognitive biases are mental shortcuts that our brains use to make quick decisions. While these biases can be helpful in some situations, they can also lead to errors in judgment. By becoming aware of our biases, we can make more objective and rational decisions.

4. Avoid common logical fallacies. Logical fallacies are errors in reasoning that can lead to invalid conclusions. By understanding these fallacies, we can avoid making them in our own thinking and identify them in the arguments of others.

5. Cultivate a growth mindset. A growth mindset is the belief that our abilities can be developed through effort and learning. This mindset motivates us to challenge ourselves, persevere in the face of setbacks, and continue to learn and grow.

6. Embrace uncertainty and ambiguity. The world is full of uncertainty and ambiguity, and trying to control everything will only lead to frustration. Instead, we should learn to accept uncertainty and embrace the challenges it presents.

7. Strive for intellectual humility. Intellectual humility is the recognition that we don't know everything and that we are always learning. It is an essential quality for any thinker who wants to grow and improve.

15 powerful lessons from 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos by Jordan B. Peterson:

1. Stand Up Straight with Your Shoulders Back. This simple act can boost your confidence and make you appear more assertive and powerful.

2. Treat Yourself Like Someone You Are Responsible for Helping. This means taking care of your physical and mental health, making good choices, and striving to become the best version of yourself.

3. Make Friends with People Who Want the Best for You. Surrounding yourself with positive and supportive people can have a major impact on your life.

4. Compare Yourself to Who You Were Yesterday, Not to Who Someone Else Is Today. This is a more realistic and productive way to measure your progress.

5. Do Not Let Your Children Do Anything That Makes You Dislike Them. This means setting clear boundaries and expectations for your children's behavior.

6. Set Your House in Perfect Order Before You Criticize the World. This means taking care of your own problems before you try to fix the problems of others.

7. Pursue What Is Meaningful (Not What Is Expedient). This means making choices that are aligned with your values, even if they are not the easiest or most convenient choices.

8. Tell the Truth – Or, at Least, Don't Lie. Honesty is essential for building trust and healthy relationships.

9. Assume That the Person You Are Listening to Might Know Something You Don't. This is a humble and open-minded attitude that can help you learn and grow.

10. Be Precise in Your Speech. This means using clear and concise language to avoid misunderstandings.

11. Do Not Bother Children While They Are Skateboarding. This means respecting their interests and giving them the space they need to grow and learn.

12. Pet a Cat When You Encounter One in the Street. This is a small act of kindness that can brighten your day and make the world a better place.

13. Imagine What You Could Do If You Had No Fear. This is a powerful exercise that can help you overcome your fears and achieve your dreams.

14. Take Responsibility for Your Life. This means taking ownership of your actions and choices, even when they are difficult.

15. Don't Let Anyone Define Your Future for You. You have the power to create your own future, so don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

In addition to these 15 lessons, Peterson's book also offers a wealth of insights into human psychology, mythology, and philosophy. It is a challenging but rewarding read that can help you to live a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

Inspiration & Hope / 15 lessons from How Leaders Decide
November 25, 2023, 11:50:28 PM
15 lessons from How Leaders Decide: Inspiration, Insights and Wisdom from History's Biggest Moments by Greg Bustin:

1. Recognize the power of a single decision. Leaders make countless decisions every day, but it's often a single choice that has the most profound impact. By understanding the importance of these pivotal moments, leaders can better prepare themselves to make sound judgments.

2. Gather information and seek diverse perspectives. Effective decision-making requires a deep understanding of the situation at hand. Leaders should gather as much information as possible and seek out the insights of others, even those with whom they disagree.

3. Consider the long-term consequences of your actions. It's easy to get caught up in the short-term needs of an organization, but great leaders always consider the long-term implications of their decisions. They ask themselves: "What will this decision mean for our company, our customers, and our society in the years to come?"

4. Be willing to take risks. Some of the most consequential decisions in history were made by leaders who were willing to take calculated risks. Innovation and progress often require a willingness to step outside of one's comfort zone.

5. Don't be afraid to change your mind. New information and changing circumstances can make it necessary to revisit and revise previous decisions. Leaders should be flexible and adaptable, willing to adjust their course as needed.

6. Learn from your mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes, but great leaders learn from them. They use their missteps as opportunities for growth and improvement.

7. Don't let your ego get in the way. Leaders who are too proud or unwilling to admit their mistakes will never reach their full potential. Humility is essential for effective decision-making.

8. Communicate your decisions effectively. Once a decision has been made, it's important to communicate it clearly and concisely to those who will be affected by it. This will help to reduce confusion and build trust.

9. Be decisive. In times of crisis or uncertainty, leaders need to be able to make quick and decisive decisions. This can be difficult, but it's essential for effective leadership.

10. Don't be afraid to delegate. Leaders can't do everything themselves, so it's important to delegate tasks to others. This will free up their time to focus on the most important decisions.

11. Create a culture of feedback. A culture of feedback will help to ensure that leaders are making sound decisions. Encourage employees to share their thoughts and ideas, even if they're critical.

12. Never stop learning. The world is constantly changing, so leaders need to be lifelong learners. They should read books, attend conferences, and talk to other leaders to stay up-to-date on the latest trends.

13. Be authentic. Leaders who are genuine and authentic will be more trusted and respected by their followers. This will create a more positive and productive work environment.

14. Have a vision for the future. Great leaders have a clear vision for the future of their organization. This vision will inspire and motivate others to follow them.

15. Lead with integrity. Leaders who are honest and ethical will build a strong foundation of trust for their organization. This will attract and retain top talent, and it will make it easier to weather storms in the future.

These are just a few of the many valuable lessons that can be learned from How Leaders Decide. By studying the decision-making processes of some of history's most successful leaders, we can gain insights that will help us make better decisions in our own lives and careers.

Inspiration & Hope / 7 lessons on simple thinking
November 25, 2023, 11:30:30 PM
7 lessons on simple thinking:

1. Clarify your goals.
Simple thinking starts with clarity. What are you trying to achieve? What are your priorities? Once you know what you want, you can start to eliminate the clutter and focus on what's important.

2. Break down complex problems into smaller ones.
Complex problems can seem overwhelming, but they can be easily solved by breaking them down into smaller, more manageable steps. This will make them seem less daunting and more achievable.

3. Focus on the present moment.
Simple thinkers focus on the present moment. They don't dwell on the past or worry about the future. This allows them to be more present in their lives and to make decisions that are in their best interests.

4. Avoid overthinking.
Overthinking is the enemy of simple thinking. When we overthink, we get bogged down in details and make things more complicated than they need to be. Instead, learn to trust your instincts and make decisions quickly and decisively.

5. Let go of things that don't matter.
Simple thinkers don't sweat the small stuff. They know that life is too short to worry about things that are out of their control. Instead, they focus on the things that they can control and that make them happy.

6. Be mindful of your language.
The way we speak to ourselves and others can have a profound impact on our thoughts and feelings. Simple thinkers use positive and empowering language. They avoid negative self-talk and focus on the good things in their lives.

7. Be grateful for the simple things in life.
Simple thinkers appreciate the simple things in life. They find joy in nature, in spending time with loved ones, and in the small everyday moments. This allows them to live a more fulfilling and contented life.
